Which formation do you guys use?

Till Now i have been using 4-2-1-3 with 3 CFs, but that doesn't seem to work against big teams (I have a weak defense - 3 youngsters). I tried the Barcelona formation and it worked superbly. But there were a lot of chances i would have been caught flat footed on the offside trap i myself set .i.e A few times the opponent CF managed to make it through.

So, whats your formation? :)

I edited the default liverpool formation4-2-2-1 a bit, switching one of the dmf's to cmf and dragged the cmf and dmf a bit farther away from the amf

it works really well for me defensively, played the entire season and only conceded 5 in the league. also able to keep the ball pretty well. maybe the only weakness is that i dont score as much as i used to with a 442

Straight up 4-4-2 with a DM and CM, SS and CF, 2 SMF. Works perfect for me:) Although i have Torres and Juan Mata up front :D

You should try playing 4-1-2-1-2(4 defenders, 1 DMF, 2 SMF, 1 AMF, 1 SS, 1 CF.)
I play with SHAKHTAR(On top player) and it works great for me i have won the UEFA LEAGUE after 3 seasons

I usually play one of two formations: 4-4-2 or 3-2-3-2. Being with Chelsea they look like this:

------------------Cech-------------------
Bosingwa - Carvalho - Terry - A. Cole
----------------Essien-------------------
------------------------------Gourcuff---
---J. Cole--------------------------------
---------------Lampard------------------
-------Anelka------------Drogba--------

or

-----------------Cech------------
Chrygynskiy - Terry - Carvalho
----------De Jong - Essien------
J. Cole-----------------Gourcuff
----------Lampard---------------
------Anelka - Drogba-----------

I tend to start with the first formation and then switch to the second one for the last 10 minutes or so, if I need to equalize desperately need to win the game. I will then choose 'full attack' and highest aggresiveness, works out fine so far.
In both formations, J. Cole & Gourcuff are playing on the right & left wing respectively, so I have basically more width than the standard Chelsea formation.

Hmmm

Liverpool, no purchases of note
Reina, (R>L) G. Johnson, Carra, AGGER(YES! Awesome), Dossena
DMF Masch
CMF/DMF Aquilani in line with Masch, to the left
RMF Kuyt on the halfway line
LMF Riera so far forward he's almost an attacker
CMF Stevie G in the middle of the park
AMF Voronin
CF Torres slightly to the right, far upfront.

Can't remember what it was like, playing in this formation, was so long ago now (it seems)

Then Aquilani got injured for 28 weeks (GRRRRRR!)
so
...
CMF/DMF Lucas/Plessis in line with him, to the left
RWF Kuyt on the halfway line
LMF Riera so far forward he's almost an attacker
CMF Stevie G in the middle of the park
SS Voronin, where an AMF would maybe be, slightly to the left to compensate for Kuyt's WF
CF Torres slightly to the right, far upfront; swap for Babel to rest my baby Spaniard

Goals applenty for Torres, Gerrard, Voronin, Glen Johnson (when I surge him forward) and Agger likes to rush in and help out too. Even Masch got a couple.
Occasionally swap Kuyt with Voronin when Kuyt is on an orange or red, as Voronin normally has slightly superior finishing, but Kuyt on speed is a force to be reckoned with.

Same here: 4-4-2 with a strong DMF, good all-rounder as CMF, 2 SMFs high up the pitch, a creative SS, and a CF. I find it gives a good balance across the park.

Haha, I play the exact same formation with the same players, but with Zhirkov on the left wing. How is Gourcuff on the left wing? Considering buying him.

Haha, I used to play this formation with Zhirkov on the left wing before I bought Gourcuff.

I like Gourcuff on the left wing. He's not as fast as Zhirkov, but hardly anybody gets him off the ball, not without a foul anyway. His crosses are better, too, they're much more accurate.

Unfortunately, Lampard is steadily declining for me, but only in terms of speed it seems. So when Lampard has a purple arrow, I tend to take him out, shift Gourcuff in the centre and put Zhirkov on the left wing.
Although Lampard is positioned in more of an offensive position, I still marked him as centre mid, because he's much stronger then.

I've been using that formation since the first season, with the default players, and have never had any troubles defensively and always have plenty of opportunities too score.

My two wide midfielder can track back if needed, but usually my centre backs and defensive midfielder can cover any danger.

I play with the counter attacking strategy switched on at all times too so that all three of my strikers remain up the field at all times. Useful against teams who are putting pressure on you as your three attackers often outnumber the amount of players they have back defending.

GK - Diego
RB - Sagna (or Gilbert, both have great 1-touch crossing from deep)
LB - Clichy (or Traore, like to use my young players)
CB - Vermaelen (well rounded player with good development - 88)
CB - Gallas (getting on a bit now but still solid)
CM - Ramsey (or Denilson, sometimes DMF)
CM - Fabregas (enough said, 90+)
LMF - Jouffre (new signing, well rounded - mid-80's)
AMF - Buonanotte (young, very agile, Nasri & Rosicky as back-up)
SS - Bendtner (great potential, lethal from any range)
SS - Van Persie (main goal-scorer)

Having said all that, it really does depend on your style of play and the strategy buttons and sliders that you use ;)

lol I clearly cannot count or remember my formation.

So instead of a 12 man liverpool (I should be so lucky...)

Voronin doesn't make my normal starting 11 so the same as above with no Voronin!

And for the team with the injured Aquilani, that's where we see Masch as DMF...then
RWF Kuyt on the halfway line
LMF Riera so far forward he's almost an attacker
CMF Stevie G in the middle of the park
SS Voronin, where an AMF would maybe be, slightly to the left to compensate for Kuyt's WF
CF Torres slightly to the right, far upfront; swap for Babel to rest my baby Spaniard

If I need to sub off someone or go more defensive, I may drop my SS, push Gerrard further up the pitch, and then get Lucas or Plessis to bolster up as DMF/CMF...or stick on Kyrgiakos or Skrtel as an extra CB. Shut down the goals!

AI teams works best with a 4-4-2 variant, especially 4-1-2-1-2,Standard diamond midfield, DMC AMC RMF LMF and one of the strikers as SS. I haven't found any that works better so far.
So a team that plays this formation is a great choice of club in a BAL game.

I used to play with a 4-2-1-3 formation with 2 SS up front in the winger area, but after I got used to the 4-1-2-1-2 variant explained above, that's an absolute winner for me, very versantile as you can play varied attacking football with this formation and it's good for ball possession. The AMC position can make or break this formation though, anything from Maradona to Lampard suits this role, great passing is a must for this player.

Yes Santon will soon replace the aging Daniel Alves. In the first season it is easy to sign santon and ballotelli because inter probably doesn't know there full potential.

lol, what I did is that taking advantage of De Rossi, whom I think easily the most versatile dmf in the game, period. He is the focal point for this formation to work. With him playing like a stone right in the middle, a no-man island so to speak, I just push one amf to ss. This seems working great for me until now. lol
BTW, when De Rossi got injured, I just move back to the original 4-5-1 to compensate for his loss, but it is never like the prior.

Love this game btw.

i'm silmular to a few of you guys:

4-4-2 with a flat back four and then a dmf, cmf and 2 x smf (both quick) high up the pitch and a ss (small and creative) and cmf (big and powerful). Gives a real good balance to the team. You can also change the smf to wing forwards for a more aggresive approach

playing with everton on top player, won premier league in 2nd season. Started off with a real defensive 4-5-1 in first season until I improved the squad and then went for my current approach.

I have a variety of formations I use in different situations.

Standard is 4-3-3:

------------Guzan----------- (Rui Patricio against abnormally quick teams)
--------Palmieri-Sariw------- (Sariw is Offense Priority & a good shot, so he's perfect for CB Overlap)
Virota------------------Wome (Balanced --- Offense Priority)
----------------------------
---------------BAL---------- (My now 106-rated character, DMF, Balanced)
--Tolchotryzn--------------- (Usually CMF, Balanced)
----------------------------
------------Hamsik---------- (CMF, Offense Priority and Free Roaming card enabled)
----------------------------
--Arnautovic or Muniain------ (SS)
----------------Sturridge--- (SS)
----------------------------
------------Foti------------ (CF)

When attempting to hold a lead in a tight game, I'll switch to 4-5-1 or 5-4-1 with 2xDMF + CMF or AMF and 2x DF Priority SMF, employing Miruic (6'8") as the lone striker.

If I need more balance, or if the opposing team plays with a very narrow formation, I'll use a 4-4-2 with a fairly deep-lying DMF + CMF pairing (usually the DMF with DF Priority, the CMF Balanced), two SMFs, and typically a big man/little man combo in attack, unless the opposition defense is physically strong, in which case I'll use two big, "true" CFs.

One of the most important aspects of my team is having a variety of fullbacks. I have three natural RBs and four natural LBs, all with different qualities, which lets me adjust my defense to the opposition. If I use Cejumi and Wome, I'll have tons of offensive support and pace to cover their forays forward, while choosing El Moubarki and reborn Mitchell Pique gives me durability, resilience in marking, and excellent defensive cover. The others are somewhere in-between (my first choice, Virota, is extremely powerful and well-balanced), and/or offer useful perks (Corrales can play on both flanks as SB, WB, SMF, as well as CB and CMF, while Cordeiro is a tricky dribbler and fantastic crosser). The right complement of fullbacks greatly facilitates the breaking down and/or just plain shutting down of any opposing formation.
