View Full Version : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
File this away inside your head as a rumour for now, but sources close to Activision are claiming that Infinity Ward may not be developing the inevitable Modern Warfare 3, according to VG247.
Instead, anonymous sources cited by the site indicate that Infinity Ward are starting work on an entirely new IP and that Modern Warfare 3 may have been handed to the unnamed third team said to have become attached to the franchise - i.e., not the other Call of Duty developer, Treyarch.
The sources are totally anonymous and none of the studios have yet commented on the story, so it's not a rumour which we'd suggest totally buying into just yet, though the idea does make sense.
Hypothetically, the move could allow the now well-know Infinity Ward to create another, new IP while the sure-selling Modern Warfare 3 could also be in the pipeline somewhere else, crucially without the involvement of Treyarch.
What exactly Treyarch and Infinity Ward may go on to do is unclear, but rumours of a Call of Duty: Online title are still rife.
Again though, there's absolutely no confirmation or firm credibility yet attached to this rumour, plausible as it sounds.
All makes perfectly good sense.

EDIT: Slated for 2011 release.
That doesn't really say anything at all... except that perhaps Activision need to keep Infinity Ward on board. Over 8 million units sold in the first week release of MW2 should be evidence enough.
Let's face it though, If infinity Ward are not involved in the next (and inevitable) MW, it will lead to serious doubts regarding the quality.

Serious doubts but it'll sell nearly as much anyway which means they can pull this, release a version slightly inferior to MW2 and at the same time make a new title which is likely to sell a lot, maximising profits.
Commercialism over customer satisfaction. Shouldn't be surprised if you are correct Don.
Activision has outlined the future of the Call of Duty series in a statement today that goes part way towards explaining yesterday's news that Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West had left the publisher - possibly forcibly.
The two Infinity Ward heads were rumoured to be upset with Activision's policy and the fact that none of the royalties for Modern Warfare 2 - which grossed more than $1 billion USD - have been paid. It's since been confirmed that security entered the Infinity Ward building and that both Jason West and Vince Zampella have left Infinity Ward after more than nine years with the team.
Activision's statement plays down these facts though and focuses on the announcement of new Call of Duty and Modern Warfare games, some of which have been handed to new developer Sledgehammer Games, formed by ex-EA executives.
Activision's statement confirms that there'll be a new Call of Duty game from Treyarch this Autumn, with the popular rumour being that the game will be based in the Vietnam War.
Sledgehammer Games' new title will be released in 2011 and will move the genre forward to a more "action adventure" setting. Sledgehammer is owned wholly by Activision.
Activision is also setting up a new department just to handle and further the COD franchise, which will focus on "various new brand initiatives with focused, dedicated resources around the world", as well as "high-margin digital online content" and new genres.
Infinity Ward's remnants are currently only working on the first of two map packs to be released later in the year for Modern Warfare 2.

Important news fans.
COD4Forums Members,
The exodus of Infinity Ward continues. Jon Shiring, a programmer for IW for many years has officially left the company.
Shiring told IGN, "I'm not trying to create spectacle, I just wanted to avoid the LinkedIn nonsense," he told IGN. "No announcements other than that one." Shiring spent close to six years at Infinity Ward, working on both Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. "
Along with the announcement, Senior Animator Bruce Ferriz has left. And lead designer Mackey McCandlish has also left Infinity Ward. All of these announcements have occurred after a month ago IW co-founders Todd Alderman and Francesco Gigliotti were fired by Activision.
Along with the the quittings, the co-founders have recently signed with EA. They'll be running their own brand, and a project already looms in the distance.
All of this news certainly doesn't bode well for the COD franchise. With so many uncertainties with IW, the speculation now begins. How much longer before another IW Call of Duty game releases? If we ever even see one again.
The cover for the box, apparently.

Modern Warfare 3 to Feature Bigger Story, More Destruction This Fall
Brian Crecente — While still unannounced, sources who have seen the game in action tell Kotaku that the next Call of Duty will be a Modern Warfare 3 that pushes the bar on what people have come to expect from the series. And it hits this fall.
The yet-to-be announced sequel is under development by Infinity Ward, though a swath of those developers left the company in a civil-litigation uprising last year. The team is being assisted by newly minted Activision studio Sledgehammer Games, we're told. We've also heard that Raven Software may be involved.
The Call of Duty series has long alternated between two sets of stories and timelines. The games made by Treyarch have typically been set during the events of World War II, though last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops moved the setting to the Cold War of the 1960s. Starting with 2007's Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward's Call of Duties all took place in a modern day setting.
In the original Modern Warfare, a civil war breaks out in the Russia of 2011. The story continues in Modern Warfare 2, which has a terrorist attack in Russia erroneously linked to the United States. That leads Russian forces to invade the U.S. Some of the missions even feature rolling ground combat in the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Virginia and in the capital itself.
Key to the near ending of Modern Warfare 2, was the detonation of a nuclear missile in the upper atmosphere above the Mid-Atlantic, something that creates an electromagnetic pulse that destroyed all electronic equipment on both sides of the raging war in D.C. Such an event would cripple the area in the short term, essentially removing the ability to use most technology in the region as the country tries to rebuild or bring in support from other parts of the country. It also seems that it could make the story a hard one to follow in a modern day shooter.
But our sources tell us Modern Warfare 3 will continue along that storyline, delivering a "world in crisis" feel to the aftermath of the U.S. invasion. However, it looks like it won't be another take on Red Dawn, a post-U.S. invasion storyline already explored by Homefront. While it's unclear where specifically the game will be set, Modern Warfare 3 will have a urban setting, much like the U.S. missions in Modern Warfare 2, with military vehicles, including tanks, rolling through suburban streets.
The story may also include prominent characters from Modern Warfare 2, like Captain John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price. Modern Warfare 2 ended with Price, Soap and a Russian informant codenamed Nikolai on the run as international fugitives following their killing of Lieutenant General Shepherd.
The biggest shift for the game appears to be in its breadth. We're told that Modern Warfare 3 will take place on a much larger, epic scale. It appears the game will explore the lead up to a blossoming set of engagements that could pull in other countries, creating a potential World War III scenario. The game will also feature large, urban destructible environments.

The first details for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have been revealed.
Multiple sources have told Kotaku that the game will be released on November 8, as previous rumours have suggested.
Following on moments after the events of Modern Warfare 2, the game's story will see players travel the world as both returning and all-new characters, including a Russian agent, SAS operative and AC-130 gunner.
The 15-mission-long campaign will start with an invasion of Manhattan by the Russian army, and later cover Dubai, London, Paris, India and Sierra Leone.
Story presentation similar to previous games in the series, with short story sequences and regular cuts to new locations. Playable vehicular segments will include tanks and an AC-130 gunship.
Co-operative mode Spec Ops will return with two mission types, Survival and Mission, while the online multiplayer component will feature a "chunky list" of maps.
The title has been co-developed by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, with the game largely complete and finishing touches now being applied.
While Activision has yet to officially announce the game, it recently told investors that a new Call of Duty title would be revealed in the coming weeks.

This sounds fantastic, I love how they're picking up straight where the last game left off with the Russian invasion. But surely most exciting of all is news of a mission in Sierra Leone and potentially Somalia.

I'll pick MW3. BF3 campaign looks boring. I couldn't care less about MP games to be frank. They get boring after a few hours and I don't really have the time to invest in MP games (which is why I don't really like MP - the guys who play for hours and hours are certainly a lot better than you!). COD games are easy to jump in and out of though, unlike BF3 which seems to be more hardcore.
MW3 for the single player and BF3 for both the single player and MP, although I doubt I'll be able to afford both.
MW3 looks the business will be getting the on launch :)

How did you come up with that conclusion? You have barely seen anything from BF3's campaign(Only parts from 1 mission). Are you expecting MW3 campaign to be something special?
It's obvious that MW3 will reach out to people with less intelligence.

I have played COD4, MW2, Black Ops. The campaign is a rollercoaster ride. It's explosive and it's action packed.
Bad Company 2 on the other hand was boring as fuck. I don't expect BF3 to deliver a 'blockbuster campaign' much like MW3. There is 12 minutes of footage for BF3. It LOOKS boring. The setting is boring and it's played out.
Are you always jumping the conclusion even though you don't have enough info/facts about the game?
I agree that BC2's campaign was absolute horseshit, but i'm not expecting BF3's campaign to be boring or suck because of that. Especially not when i have only seen parts from ONE mission.
Bad Company is completely different to Battlefield anyway.

MW3 is going to take place in America, England, France, Germany etc.
Much more exciting than running around in an Iraqi warzone. Sure, it BF3 looks more 'realistic', but I don't play games for realism. I play games for the fun and wow factor.
The MW3 trailer blew me away. BF3 didn't.

Now i finally understand. You know absolutely nothing about BF3.
First of all. BF3 is going to take place in Iraq, Teheran, Paris and New York (Sarajevo rumoured).
BF3 is superior in any way and it's not realistic. It's just more realistic the COD.
After seeing BF3 i can't see anything good in the MW3 trailer.
How can BF3 not have the wow factor? Because if you played for fun and wow factor you would choose BF3 instead.
COD is fun but don't have the wow factor. Or maybe you can explain it to me?
Kids these days getting excited about scripted events. :lmao:

The guy said he found the trailer boring. He said he has prefered MW single campaigns than the BF ones.
Instead of posting why you prefer BF, you're trying your hardest to rubbish his posts and make it look as if he is talking shit, even though video games are very subjective.
Oh, and you're saying BF3 is better than MW3. Neither is out yet, so you're talking crap.
He is Swedish. So is probably a bit biased.

Talk about avoiding my post. You still can't answer how this is affecting you...
So far it's easier to see the difference between the games (Gameplay, Graphics) then knowing that the campaign will be boring by watching 3 parts of ONE mission.

He's not just basing it on the trailer. He's also basing it on the previous titles. If he is only going to buy one, he obviously is going to go for the one that catches his attention the most and that was MW3. Get over it.

As for the England map, it is likely to involve The Underground as there's already an uproar about it, due to the sensitivity.
Xbox Live 1 year £39.99 + Modern Warfare 3 £44.99 + CoD Elite 1 Year £60 = £144.98
By saying CoD Elite for £60 I'm just guessing it's going to be around £5 a month.
Apparently things such as K/D and Theatre Mode are part of the Elite subscription :/
They would've earned a lot more respect and credit if that was part of the Modern Warfare 3 package on the disc. But then, this is Activision.

So that's the way its going to be then, release a game, but only release two thirds of it. Charge a monthly fee for the final third equal to the cost of another game within a year.
So this is the production houses intend to generate additional revenue, it means MW3 will command top dollar on Pre-Owned forever and a day.
Great, lets hope it doesn't catch on too quickly.
Only other company who would do it are EA.
To be honest, this type of profiteering can only get worse. Franchises will turn to shit for the sake of fleecing consumers.
Well the only franchises which sell in big numbers are the ones which have been milked like mad eg. Call Of Duty, Fifa, Madden, Halo, PES? etc
Yup, also means the market is ripe for a new franchise.
But...they're making so much money from these franchises that they don't need to come up with new IPs.
You can guarantee that EA will do it; dunno how the timing works with BF3 but they'll definately roll it out.
Nope, doesn't mean others won't join the bandwagon though TH14
Be interesting to see how successful this venture is for Activision. Could make them a shit load of cash.

That's what they are in business for.
The sub is nothing new though, even for console gaming, Phantasy Star Online has survived despite it's monthly fee. It's existence as a perpetual universe may go some way to justifying it though.
To some degree we have been fortunate that most companies allow free play and access to online competitive gameplay, but it would appear that, that time is running out.
I only hope that game manufacturers don't forget the single/offline players as seems to be becoming the trend, especially in the FPS market.

The game quality has to warrant it though. Obviously, its blatant consumer exploitation. The games alone without dlc coin it in.

Nice video, doesn't look much different to Black Ops though :/
You did play Black Ops, right?
If anything it's a combination of CoD4 and MW2, which equals awesomeness.
Just seen the video for the Spec Ops mode, and it looks very impressive. The whole mode could well offer a huge chunk of playtime with the new progressive ranking etc. Very excited now to see the multiplayer proper at the Call of Duty showcase.
I'm kind of in a win-win situ with this.
I'm not getting overly pumped up, because previous titles (albeit Treyarch) have been a massive disappointment, so the game (if poor) shouldn't be a "let down".
That and I can quite easily carry on playing MW2, like I have for the past couple of years.
Top Gun, you still play MW2?
Not anymore. My disc is fucked after something like 30 days playing time :D I can't be bothered to get a new one this close to MW3. Did play a bit of MW1 the other day but it's been hacked like fuck.
I know, I tried it a few months back and it was awful. It was around the time MW2 had hacks, also.
£10-£12 on Ebay? Still 3 months until MW3!
It's tempting but Deus Ex and Batman are both out soon which should tide me over for the time being.
Me and a friend just had a private match which involved Desert Eagles only, miniscule health and heatshots only :) Reminded me of the "License to Kill" and Pistols on Goldeneye N64 :)

hmm
hmm what?
32 players? Holy shit on a stick!
Looks nice. Mind you it says "max" players: 32. So I assume this "max" is simply the Ground War. I don't really play Ground War of course, but I'll probably give it a few tries, not that I expect to play it regularly mind.
It's the Paris map that has my eye, because it obviously has immense potential. I don't really know the cities and locations included in the story of the game, but there's obviously a handful that I'd love to see used, but I never thought they'd be included in online play. I'm definitely intrigued now.
I'll probably check out Battlefield 3 as well for sure, but I really dislike the notion of having vehicles in online play, so I can see myself leaning more towards MW3 if I'm honest.
Good times!
Well we know New York, and England and Germany. Also rumoured are Somalia, Sierra Leone, Moscow and Dubai.
All single player, but I'd expect the majority to appear in MP.
Not getting as pumped about this as I could, as it's not the same team that made MW2, but when it's closer to release date I'll prolly start to get wood.
Exams in December, which will (should) limit my time on it, which is a shame!

The multiplayer trailer looks awful.
Hoping they implement the split screen online into this one. Had a lot of fun with that on Black Ops with my cousin.
Bonerific!
ACR and throwing knives make me very happy. That robot thingy looks hilarious as do the mines which jump up :D
Also pretty sure the last dude had an ACR and Dragunov so guess you can have two primary weapons.
The trailer isn't the best, but we all know it's going to kick major ass anyway.
The bouncing betty like mines look awesome, and yeah TG there is Overkill in this (let's face it, they were never going to bring back OMA!)
The challenges for throwing knives better be similar to Tomahawks in Black Ops, where you have to get 1,000+. I've got a shit load more throwing knife kills than 30 in my 10th prestige.
No idea how many prestige levels there will be. Will decide whether or not to go all the way through depending on whether there's 10, 12 or 15.
I hope they keep the theatre mode as that could be epic with the throwing knifes. Plus the noob tubes should be treated as they are in Black Ops, they did a good job in cutting them down tbf.
They could go either way, 20 of level 40 or 5 of level 100.
Buzzing now though, might have to book the week off of work :D
Theatre mode would be boss, but I know they're charging a monthly fee for something OTT; hopefully that doesn't include theater mode, should it feature at all.
Joel, up until now the split screen multiplayer has just been a Treyarch thing (I think it was in WaW, too?), so don't get your hopes up. Will deffo be able to do it in Spec Ops, though.
I have exams on 05/12 and 12/12 so will be having time off for those. Gonna be difficult trying to build up the willpower to not go on the X360 :(
I hope it's nothing too major as they shouldn't alienate the casual fans.
I'm sure I remembered hearing that split screen won't be included I'm afraid.
I think I'm going to tell the Mrs' that we're having a month or so break after the game comes out, got to prioritise. :)

Nah, my second post of the video works. The first was leaked the day before fourzerotwo posted it on his Twitter, and was removed due to copyright bollocks.

Damn, that sucks. Would have been awesome to have that mode in a MW game.
It was decent in Halo 3, too. That was the first time I'd ever seen such thing in online play...

It's only annoying to Blop players, as I think almost everyone (especially n00bs) has it as a perk.
I've just pre-ordered that hardened edition of MW3 from amazon and just want to know what delivery option is best to select?
The free one or the 1 u pay for? will they be sent at the same time?

If you're spending £90 already then an extra few quid to guarantee delivery on release day won't hurt?
Or order from here; delivery is Recorded and it's free.

I always use the free delivery when I can, and it usually takes the exact same time to get to me but could very well be pure luck.
If you're gonna be in on the day just use ShopTo; you'll need someone to sign for it.
Its only £75 for the hardened edition and it could still go down further.
I usualy buy 1 or 2 map packs and as this is all included in the price you actually save some money.

In that case, order from ShopTo, as they'll give you the lowest price if you've preordered, I believe. How much were map packs? It's been almost two years since I bought one! Trying to weigh up the cost of the normal edition and hardened.
Map Packs are normally around 1200MS points which is a bout £10 I believe.
I might pick up a Hardened Edition, but only if I see it on the day as I won't be ordering it online.

Well, Ziss probably has several times. Also gameplay of a London mission here:

Hoping they implement the split screen online into this one. Had a lot of fun with that on Black Ops with my cousin.
This has been confirmed by a guy at Infinity Ward. :point:
what would be the best online site to buy this from?Is there any that will ship it a day or 2 early usually?
This has been confirmed by a guy at Infinity Ward. :point:
I just marked.
Well this is a definite purchase now.
Re-up Haribo; the link is dead.
I need my fap material...
Fixed.
Some info you may or may not know:
Killstreaks have been changed to "Strike Packages". You have "Point Streaks" that help you obtain these packages but you don't just get them via kills and can now get them through completing objectives. There are three Strike Packages:
•Assault Strike Package: Basically your damage killstreaks such as predator missiles, helicopters, etc. Killstreaks reset on death.
•Support Strike Package: Streaks don't reset on death and are support orientated - e.g.UAV, Counter-UAV, Sam Turrets
•Specialist Strike Package: These give you additional perks or improve current perks. These perks last until death.
There are 80 levels per prestige. You also get "Prestige Points" when you prestige as well as achieve other things in the game that are very hard to do. These prestige points can be spent in a "Prestige Shop". One of the things you can buy in the prestige shop is the ability to take over your favourite weapon to the next prestige level. So you can basically take that high level weapon with you without having to level up for it again in the next prestige.
Private matches will be heavily customisable. He referred to working with MLG to improve competitive. You will be able to create rulesets with weapon restrictions, etc.
There will be a weapon ranking system, so just like you rank up yourself, you will also rank up your weapon for customisation and "Weapon Proficiences". These include reducing kick, flinching, improving ads, etc. It is basically adding perks to the guns themselves.
Two new game modes: Kill Confirmed and Team Defender.
•Kill Confirmed – Collect dog tags from killed players. Prevent the other team from collecting yours.
•Team Defender – Grab the flag and protect the flag carrier to increase your team's score. Basically mobile CTF with one flag.
16 multiplayer maps out of the box. However, we only got to play on 4.
Specs Ops will only support 2 players and not 4 as was hoped.
Cheers Haribo, the ending to that video was awesome.
Didn't know you could carry a weapon through to your next prestige? I'm so going for the RPG :D
To those who are buying this, which version are you going for?
The cheapest. Which probably isn't going to be cheap.
Do you have access to a Makro card? Not saying for sure that they will do it again, but a day or two before release of MW2 I heard that they were selling it for £20 and managed to pick one up at 7am.
I need to read into what exactly comes with the Hardened copy. If I'm technically paying for map packs in advance then I might get it, just to get a year's worth of the bungie.net like online stats stuff. I have a £100 limit from my missus for my bday, so may just go for the Hardened copy...
are any of ye ordering it online? If so can you recommend a good site?
Ziss -
Yes you get the map packs with the hardened edition, and you get it every month unlike the nomal map packs that come out ever 2-3 Months.

So I'll say get a map every month, and everyone else will have to purchase from the marketplace/psn whenever they release them as a pack?
Given that the Hardened Edition comes with the 1 year 'Elite' and all the map packs, I'm tempted, but not if it's going to be £80.
No thanks.

Thats what they are saying, to be honest getting the maps early would be pretty good as u can get used to them and than destroy the people that didnt get the hardened edition once they get the map pack a month later.
Also as im on the PS3 im assuming this would make sure that xbox dont get there maps a week or 2 earlier than ps3.
Im only getting the hardened edition as its really the only game i play as for some reason i cant play 2/3 games as i like to concentrate on just 1.
Bought PES11 last year and only played it for 2 hours before going bk to COD.
I've got a shit load of hours out of MW2, and the missus still owes me a birthday present, so I'll likely go for Hardened.
Was about to go and pre-order this on Shopto. I can't believe they are trying to sell it for £49.85! Are they nuts?
Amazon are doing it for £39.90, which is cheaper than what I spent on MW2 I think.
Joel, if you can get out to the shops on the day of release just pop into Asda or Tesco. They'll do it for £40 and you're guaranteed it on the day, rather than the postal service having a mare. Or order from Tesco Entertainment; they were awesome for me although they deliver with TNT (not the dynamite) so you'll need to be home to sign for it.
I won't be getting the hardened edition; I read some small print on I think it was GAME's website that said the free DLC was for a limited time. I'm not paying and extra £35 and then have to buy a second or third map pack on top of that, too.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The Hardened includes a 1 year Elite membership, which in turn, includes all map packs etc.
Unless of course, they backtrack on what "Elite" is. There still hasn't been word on how much Elite will cost has there?
Elite is technically free out the box, it's Elite PREMIUM that will get you the free maps etc. I saw the words "for a limited time" on a site where I was checking prices. I'll message Robert Bowling on Twitter in the hope he actually reads and replies to it.

That is hilarious. I can only assume Tesco didn't have the stock ready or something, as it's otherwise stupid business on their part.
On that note, I'm heading out to Tesco in a minute to buy myself the points and the game (as Ziss mentioned a few posts up). I could then buy another pack of points, and it'll be a good £20+ cheaper than the Hardened edition, and I'd also have Elite for a year if it really is 4200 points for Elite as people are suggesting.
Amazon screwed me.

How much did you pay Joel bro? You could always just head out to a local store (Sainsbury's, Best Buy, Tesco) and get the game for under £30. Then simply return the Amazon order to stick it to them if they've annoyed you that much.
I could understand if you can't be arsed with the hassle though. I have today off you see, so I'm just going to make a day of the Xbox, by hammering MW3 and PES 2012 (while seperating them by going to the gym for an hour and a half).
It's deffo an online offer, but I couldn't get to Tesco before work this morning to check in store (left 15 minutes earlier than normal, got to work 10 minutes late, what the fuck?)
Also let me know if they've got a shit load of stock like they did for Blops ;)
Just bought MW3 from Tesco, along with 2100 points for a total of £41.99. I can indeed confirm they have the offer on, in that MW3 is "£25" when you buy another item such as Xbox points or a PS3 card. They also had a shit ton of stock. I got there as they ran out on the shelves, but at the same time a woman came to the aisle with a trolley full of them and started replenishing the shelves again.
I also bought a 16 year old kid outside a PS3 copy since he asked kindly. He gave me £40 since he only wanted the game and it's £38.71 on it's own. I've now just realised I'm a huge fucking moron though, as I've kicked myself in the bollocks royally. I think, even though it was a PS3 game, I could have mixed and matched, and got the 2100 Xbox points with it, and thus kept them myself - meaning with a total of 4200 points (my own included), I could have had Elite Premium and all map packs for the next year completely free essentially. Me being an idiot at the time, assumed you could only mix PS3 with PS3, and Xbox with Xbox, and not together. It's only just dawned on me that I think it doesn't matter which way around they're mixed.
FML.

Possibly but then ebay would take like £5 off me in the long run so it'd be £30 and i imagine i'll be able to find it for that price on ebay when I eventually get round to playing it sometime next year (as I've got to finish MW1 and 2 first and I might even go to Black Ops first as I loved WaW)

not really gameplay wise.
Any different to MW2?
I'd compare it more so to Black Ops, but just with smoother gameplay, and a more free flowing feel.
I've only dabbled on some of the maps so far, but they seem very good.
MW3 is very similar to previous Call of Duty games, but just simply tweaked a bit and improved a little more. Considering how many playing hours we're going to get out of it, the prices of £25-40 are more than justified. Especially when you compare it to a DVD or Blu-ray for £10 or so, which you're likely to watch once or twice (of which is only 2 hours or so long).

I got 41 (in game) hours out of MW2 over 2 years, having spent only £20 on it.
I've spent £25 on this year's edition so am not overly fussed if it's technically a MW2.5. In fact, I'd be happy with that.
Hunter, am I right that your point streaks (counting towards killstreaks etc) DOESN'T reset when you die? Just watched a game on the Machinima feed and he died after unlocking his 8 point streak (Sam Turret), yet upon spawning got a few more kills and got a 12 point streak reward of an Advanced UAV?

I haven't noticed this to be honest brother, but then again, my biggest streak is currently only 7. I've not really had enough time to build up a large array of points - nor have I been paying too much attention to earning 'points'. I'm having enough of a challenge keeping my eyes focused on everything that is happening around me during the game!
I really hope the above isn't the case though. It would suck really, but I don't think IW would be stupid enough to do this as then it removes the point of a 'streak' - even if by using points this year in MW3.
I'm not playing MW3 at the moment as my brother is downloading some games development software, which means my online play would lag. So I'm just watching the old classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas while tucked up with our lovely all black cat Juke.
It is streak points that are earnt by killing, completing objectives gettings assists etc.
I know what they are, but I thought that if you died mid-streak that it would restart?
well Im not entirely sure as I've died and lost my streak but once or twice I have kept it.

Yeah, I thought it was Uncharted.

Just about to hop back on MW3 now. Looking forward to it!
I know what they are, but I thought that if you died mid-streak that it would restart?
You can select different types of Killstreak ie u can have the Assault killstreak setup or Support Killstreak setup.
Assualt = Usual kills streak ie UAV, Preg , Chopper ext and they reset if you die.
Support = UAV, Counter, Sam Tourets, Advanced UAV ect these do not reset when you die.
I in a match if u get 12 Kills and die 10times u will still get the advanced UAV if running support.
Mine came in the post today from Amazon so i'll play it tonight after the gym.

Come on the Ziss, let's have a MW2 fags opinion.
Does the BF3 fag really want to know? ;)
It plays like CoD4/MW2, but at time feels like Black Ops. The point streak system, especially the Support and Specialist packages, is an awesome feature. I've only really played TDM so far; once I'm familiar with the maps I'll probably revert back to S&D, depending on my rank (as will need Assassin (old Cold Blooded).
I played for about 6 hours last night, so I must be enjoying it. Might give Kill Confirmed a go later, as that looks like a decent game type to hit the high end of the Support strike package. The Survival mode in Spec Ops is fucking awesome, also. Trying to outrun a Juggernaut to reach your downed teammate before he merks you is hilarious.
Haha i'm no BF3 fag, I just play good games ;)
Sounds like a good mix from what you've described anyway. Spec ops was always hilarious man, playing with a friend split screen can be so tense.
How does it work instead of killstreaks then?
You build a 'strike package', rather than killstreaks. Assault, Support, and Specialist.
Assault includes such things as Predators, Attack Helicopters, AC130 etc.
Support includes UAV, CUAV, EMP, Sam Turret, Recon drone etc.
Specialist includes perks, so as well as the 3 you start with, you can gain another three.
If you die whilst building a Support chain, your chain does not break. Therefore I could have 9 points, building towards an EMP (18 points) and die, but I will restart with 9. It's a way of rewarding players who don't equip deadly pointstreaks, I suppose. I had it on all night yesterday.
Also you don't necessarily need to kill someone to get a point for your chain. Capturing/defending flags etc also count towards it. Not experienced this yet as only played TDM.
So what about if its a match full of really good players, will everyone have the top point streak unlocks? Seems a bit unfair on the n00bs?
If it's a match full of really good players, and they have the Assault chain equipped (deadly killstreaks) then they still have to put together 7+kills without dying to get to really good killstreaks.
If they're using the Support chain, then yes they will build bigger streaks as they don't reset upon death, but they're more than likely getting non lethal things like a UAV or EMP. Only the booby trapped crate and stealth bomber are lethal killstreaks in the Support package. Oh, and a Juggernaut suit with a riot shield.
It is much more balances than it seems. Plus a Sam Turret (shoots down all air support etc) can be obtained with only 5 points (not kills) and will take care of choppers etc.

The African level in Survival mode is really difficult since there's no good strategic locations (that I can find). I ended up hiding in the back of the tent with the Weapons laptop and was actually holding out quite comfortably with my brother until the Juggernaut came and well...you can guess the rest.
We've only done Paris and London on Survival.
The Juggernaut's aren't too bad. Just have a Predator ready for them; if it doesn't kill them, they'll only need several C4s to.
I actually love running around for the first 12 or so waves with the Model you pick up off a dead enemy. Getting a Rampage of about 6 of them is awesome.

Just got the game today for pc and much more impressed than last years game.Infinty ward games are so much more impressive than what Treyarch spews out trying to keep up with them.Last years single player mode was awfull just rush, rush all the way through with to much going on.I think it was the first cod i've just got bored of while i'm playing through the single player campaign and not completed it.
The graphics seemed a bit samey at the start of mw3, but as the game goes on the graphical beauty of this game really shines(on the pc).
I just end up standing about for a couple of minutes just in aww at the graphics at times, while an annoying cunt of a fellow soldier just keeps telling you to hurry up:lol:
The scenery when your on top of the submarine with the skyline sorounding you is amazing with maxed out graphics .
I know this game sells like hotcakes and is really enjoyable to play, especially online, but i really think they need to shake things up in single player mode. You feel like your on rails to often without multiple ways to attack your enemy because the map is usually very closed off.
I know you guys are all playing on the consoles but props to Infinty ward for optimizing this game so well.A lot less demanding than the last couple of cod games. It uses about 50% gpu power even with full AA on.MW2 needed some real gpu power in fog to and smoke to keep high frames per second but this game is just butter with very constant fps.
TBH thogh Treyarch and infinity ward have always had good optimized games for the pc, shame others can't follow suit with a true next gen platform.Companys like Rockstar who were built off the pc really could learn some lessons of them.
Rumour has it, these files were found on the disc of the Xbox 360 version:

*Sigh*
Don't get me wrong. I'd love some of the older maps back, especially Overgrown, as IW seem incapable of conjuring up any good mid-long range maps anymore, but I'll be fuckin' damned if I have to fork money out for the same maps, for what must be the third damn time now in the last few years.
And it's already on the disc
Why so funny? Not like it's the first time they've included future maps on the disc. I heard they were found on the PC disc?
I'm not so much bothered about paying for 'hidden maps' already on disc - but if these maps are going to cost money, then I'll be annoyed to hell considering the maps are old as fuck - and we've all already bought them - at least once, maybe even twice before.
There should of been a like a loyalty map pack for people who've bought all the games from COD4 - MW3 (5 titles) or something similar.

That would be nice. Unfortunately, people will buy them at full price anyway, so they won't do that.
I had an awful game last night. 2 CoD fags just kept killing me continuously. I ended the game and put FIFA in the console.
I went with a silenced G36C (awesome gun) and the Specialist strike chain; managed to rack up a 16 kill streak (weapons only) and avoid dying.
So how is everyone getting on with this? Any favourite weapon, killstreak or map?
Systematically raping atm. Silenced Ump and ACR are my weapons of choice, both gold :smug:
UMP? How original?

Are they not just the maps for the Spec Ops thing? A couple of those names are definitely for that.

First day online. Man, this is frustrating. I seriously need to learn the new maps - I'm not used to getting raped and I definitely didn't enjoy it (not even a little bit, lubeless)!
I won't let the game break me though. Keyser 2.0 is coming out, bitches.
The awful spawns don't help...
The spawns take getting used to, but they are readable after a while.

4 enemies spawning behind me may be readable but it's a battle I'm not always going to win.
Well I can't help you there ;)

We should sort out a huge PESG private game one of the days like the old times. Even a game of H&S would be a laugh with some of these maps.
Call of Duty Elite looks a lot more stable now. Pretty decent as a free service. The page I'm on currently gives me a Prestige calculator, K/D, win %, hours spent in game types, recent matches, lets you look at your progress in challenges and amend your custom classes.
You can't look at your K/D unless you have COD: Elite?
No, you can look at in game as well.
You know what, i'm tired of asking you questions about this. Maybe I should just rent the damned thing
I'll upload several screen dumps for you in a moment.
I don't want to see your dump on my screen, thanks.
You have no say in the matter.

It's only part of one page; yet to venture into the others.
I GET IT NOW. This is just like Battlelog for Battlefield3. I'm a stat whore so I love this sort of thing.
Do you have to pay for Elite? To access it online?
No, it's just like bungie.net for Halo 3, which was AWESOME! Kills per weapon, kills per map, deaths per weapon, deaths per map etc.
You pay for Elite PREMIUM, which gives you a few extra things. But everyone gets free access to Elite. You get Double XP for 2 hours when you verify your account, which will come in handy for me as I'm only 10 or so ranks off prestiging.
So just like Battlelog for Battlefield then.....
No, just like bungie.net, as it came first ;)
Thought I'd check out Elite, I open up the application on the Xbox, and within 5 minutes it freezes. Ah well, nevermind.
I'll probably start using it a little more often once IW make it accessible. It's a shame too that it's a completely seperate application - meaning you can't just dip in and out of it quite efficiently.
Well I don't play the faggiest fag game in the history of mankind, so I wouldn't know what bungiejump.net is, I know Battlelog ;)

Skyrim?
I don't think you understand. I was referring to Halo and it's legions of superfags.
Been playing some spec ops with a mate. Was doing survival, got to Wave 27 before they threw normal enemies, dogs, juggernauts and helicopters at us. Unbelievable fun though :)
Tried a few of the missions aswell which were good fun, can see a fair amount of time being spent on this.

Completed the campaign. It was good, but nothing really spectacular. It just felt somewhat underwhelming to be honest. Some things were better than COD4 and MW2, others weren't.
Story, as usual, was shit. :P
Spec Ops is incredible though. Far too addicting for my own good. Have gotten slightly bored with survival but loving the missions. Need to complete them all on veteran!
Original?

I completed the campaign on Veteran, the story was average, the game-play essentially the same and the characters dull and 2D. The ending was dull but at least it wasn't as ridiculous as MW2. I then tried survival which was crap, the missions were dull and online is tedious with poorly designed maps. In hindsight, I wouldn't buy it.

So are many people playing this online (from here, I mean).
I just picked it up today, almost out of obligation. Would be good to play online with some people I recognise at some point. Only a few of my mates have got it, with the general consensus being that Battlefield 3 is where it's at.

I've not touched the campaign yet, however I couldn't agree more with regards to online play. I play it more so because I want my moneys worth I feel. The maps are exactly that; tedious. If the upcoming 'classic' map pack as it's rumoured, will cost, and not be free, I may very well make the decision to sell the game.
I've been contemplating playing Black Ops again, simply due to the maps being better and the game feeling more balanced.
Anyone still play this? Got for Christmas, been enjoying it from what I've played in multiplayer so far.
Kill Confirmed's a good addition. Finding it quite weird how you can seem to earn killstreaks despite deaths in between kills now though.
I still find it fun, but S&D on MW2 was so enjoyable we've gone back to it.
Weak maps stop me from wanting to play this regularly.

Yeah. I've not played MW3 for a few weeks now. I've not played the 360 very much lately, but when I have, it's been on Lego Harry Potter.
I will probably try and get myself back into MW3 though in the coming weeks if I can.
Joel, the made the maps the way they have to stop spawn kills down lines of sight. You just get spawnraped everywhere else on the map.
Sadly, I don't think MW2 will ever be topped in terms of enjoyment, for me, at least.

The PATHETIC spawns wrecked it for me.
Until they patch the SPAS and fix the god awful spawns, I'll stick to S&D on MW2...

Hate having to babysit my partner on Spec Ops. Get paired up with some right fools who decide to leg it right into the line of fire. Then they're in need of revival in the middle of the open and I have to try and save them. On the plane hijack one (capture the President), my partner was downed 6 six times..on hardened difficulty.
PS3. I'm aware you'll have it for the 360 :arry2:
Then it's your own fault for having a PS3 rather than an Xbox. You deserve to get raped in Spec Ops.
