This sounds like a disturbing euphemism.

If the virus is written for Windows it may not damage files on your PS3, however, it's not something I've considered before and it might not be worth the risk.

The fact it runs on a different operating system to that which any malware on the USB drive may contain is likely to have been written for. I'm not certain though.

I've got viruses on all my pen drives and it's never affected my PS3

At the risk of sounding simplistic and altogether too logical, surely it's not worth risking a £300-odd piece of equipment for the price of a £3 piece of equipment?
