I have had my 60gb PS3 for 3 years. Never had any major issues with it until playing pro 2010. When in the tunnel before a game it would occassionally just freeze and i couldnt do anything to turn it off other than the main power switch. Anyways now when i put any disc in, it just doesnt do anything. Nothing comes up saying cant read, it just has the loading circle at the top right of the screen but nothing loads up. The PS3 isnt making any noises like its trying to read it either.
Does anyone know how to fix it? I've tried stuff that ive googled like restoring it to factory settings, but I dont want to open it it up to totally void any responsibility sony may still have. I realise alot of people have had this problem with their 60gb versions.
I've looked on sony website but i cannot find a section to contact them, or to report faults on ps3's. Does anyone have a link to a sony site where i could email them my issue? I would rather email than speak to on the phone as i am presuming i could be on the phone for a long while.
Any answers are appreciated
cheers

Sounds like your Blu-ray drive is buggered.
Have you tried a normal music CD or a DVD? If they work it'll be the Blu-ray laser and you'll just have an expensive DVD player like I have...
...if they don't, there's a chance the whole b/r drive is gone.
Either way I'm pretty sure it's an easy enough repair through Sony, but certainly not free. Not sure of the cost as I haven't bothered getting mine fixed until Gran Tourismo makes an appearance!
Hope you get something sorted.

Yea i have tried games, cds', dvd's and a blu ray film. It just doesnt read anything. I have seen a few websites where they say they will pick up the ps3, repair the laser and the bluray drive, and delivery it back for just less than £100.
My only concern is that with there seeming to be quite a few problems with this 60gb version, i'm considering just buying a slimline 120gb for £250 and seeing if i can sell this for a bit on ebay.
Cheers for the response dude
£100? Ouch. Still, I kinda like my 60gb due to it's backwards compatability & SD slots. I'll get to it eventually.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do mate!

I had the same problem with my PS3 about a year ago. I called Sony up and they sent someone to pick it up, repaired it and sent it back to me, all within 9 days and for free. I think this is the number: 0870 5111999

They didn't really seem bothered about warranty. All they cared about was if I had sent it to them before - and I hadn't. I had had the PS3 for just over a year when it messed up and I think the warranty is only for a year so it's worth a punt for this guy to give them a bell. Even if they do charge him, I doubt it'd be more than £100.
I didn't mention before but mine is also a 60GB PS3.

I have managed to find a number to sony playstation - 08447360595
I have spoken the guy there, he asked if the playstation was ventillated well and if i had dropped it every etc.
He then asked if i had done anything to try to fix it, i just said i had done the double beep restore, to which he said thats not the way to do it...
He told me to go to system settings, then to system restore on there (I didnt know there was one there) but yea then it says ''quick restore'' or ''full restore'' he said to do the full restore. This takes about 3hrs 35mins.
I am currently trying this, its been on 1% for what seems like ages lol, I dont think that this will work, but im just gonna play along with them until i get something works, hopefully not costing me anything. I'll let ya know what happens in about 3hrs and 10mins if its hopefully finished restoring it.
fingers crossed!

Didnt work:realmad:, just phoned sony up again to tell them that this had not worked. The advisor there didnt have anything else that he could do apart from tell me that theres a fault with the hardware in the system so what he can do is organise it to be picked up, replaced by a refurbed model which has new parts and a brand new casing and all i have to do is hand over £131. :shocking:
I said ''so you want to charge me £131 for a refurbed model of what i have now, which could easily break with the same problem, which only has 2 months warranty, when for another £100 i could buy a brand new one with a bigger hdd and is also slimmer. He wasnt budging on the price. I'm now stuck with a decision to put some rubber gloves on and attempt to play doctor or to pay the £131. I think i'll play doctor. Might purchase a new laser on ebay for £35 quid. Thank god for youtube video's.
