I am getting myself a laptop mainly for downloading stuff from the internet, surfing the net, streaming videos, watching and storing movies and music as well as playing some nex gen games like god of war 3(not a priority as i might be getting myself a ps3 or xbox 360 later on).
If i am getting a mac i will be getting the macbook pro 13 inch.
But by paying more do i really get more in macintoshes?
I heard macs operating system is less prone to viruses which shall be a key factor in my desicion as i will be frequently downloading warez..
Also i would prefer that my laptop was stylish than not..
But for a lesser price can i get the same features and accessories on pcs and will i be able to handle the viruses with good anti viruses?
Generally what is better macs or pcs?
What gives you more value for money mac or pcs?
PCs. Macs are overpriced and nobody can claim otherwise.
Macs are less "prone" to viruses because the Mac OS has a far lower market share therefore people who write viruses concentrate on the Windows OS. They also have no anti-virus as standard to my knowledge so if viruses do become more commonplace as market share increases, there's no advantage.
As for frequently downloading warez, you really don't want to do that on a Mac unless you use Little Snitch. You do realise Apple constantly get Macs to report information of programs being run back to them don't you? Microsoft do the same with Windows PCs but its harder to control for them due to the large market share.
Mac + gaming = fail. Why get a Mac and then have to emulate a Windows OS (which brings the virus risk into play) just to play a game which is going to have its already limited resources stretched over two operating systems at once? As if God of War 3 would ever come out on a Mac. I'm sure even the PC platform isn't ever getting it. Mac users should consider themselves lucky that they're even going to get Portal 2.

If you're not going to be gaming much and don't mind paying a bit more for lesser technology the Mac becomes a much more realistic option for you. The OS is excellent and Little Snitch will allow you to control what information is sent out by your computer - it'll alert you when data is about to be sent to Apple so you can stop it.
Macs do look exceptionally nice but as I say, the cost is greater for lesser technology. Have a look at the specs of the Mac you were looking at and then look at some Sony Vaio PCs of a similar price. Sony laptops tend to be more expensive than they should be because they look nice but that's exactly the situation with Macs.

Yeah, you are right that the apple looks exceptionally nice,i actually fell in love with it the first time i saw it.So for as stated above downloading stuff from the internet, surfing the net, streaming videos, watching and storing movies and musicAdd in really good dvd writer, plus atleast 5 hours of battery life and forget about gaming as with the extra quid(200$-350$) i would have paid for a macintosh i might as well get a ps3 or xbox 360 and some games as well.
So what laptops would you suggest for me?
It would be stupid to pay more for lesser technology.
By lesser tech do you also mean that there are better operating systems than Mac os?That little snitch is really a useful program,it will come in real handy for those using internetbanking or buying shares online,to prevent installed malware sending out their password or such.
And thanks again don.
