Wrong.

The Desire which I now also own beats the iPhone 3GS in all fields except apps at present because the Android Market is in its infancy but is expaning, much like the OS, incredibly quickly and is aided by not having the strict rules which Apple use for their App Store.

Apps are important but then you have to ask how many apps people actually use - rather than having access to - which of those are on the App Store and not Android Market.

Should really give the Nokia N900 a mention too as its in the same class as the iPhone and Desire although I'd never use it.

As for business use, Meyyappan started this thread :erm:

Regarding business use, it was merely a general comment.

HTC Desire is still a cheap pretender to the iPhone, despite impressive statistics I don't like the OS and functionality as much as I do the iPhone and as you say the applications for the iPhone are still more extensive. HTC Desire is a significant improvement on previous offering.

As for the Nokia N series, they are significantly behind both of the others.

The N900 actually isn't - but I think the whole interface (and build) are horrible. Others who don't dislike the interface or build have no reason not to use it though.

The HTC Desire is hardly a "cheap pretender" considering it has better specifications and your own dislike of the OS and functionality is a personal issue - the facts are it is just as good as the iPhone with superior technology but fewer apps.

In any case, its about time Apple were forced to make a proper upgrade of the iPhone, the next iteraiton of which is due this summer. The next HTC phone (Evo 4G) is laying down even more markers but probably won't be available in the UK, or perhaps Europe at all.

Apple are unveiling details of iPhone OS 4 on Thursday.

In fairness, the battery life of all smartphones is "poor" although it depends on your definition of what good and bad battery life is.

The HTC Desire should have had a 1500 mAh battery, not the 1400 it was produced with.

If you can't make use of the technology I don't care what specifications it is. Yes, it's my opinion regarding the quality of the OS and functionality. The only objective statements regarding the OS can been garnered from the official websites of each company. If he asks me which is better, it will be a subjective answer.

What are you even talking about here? So what if you don't like Android? I'm saying that doesn't make the iPhone superior, nor does it make your sweeping statement about the Desire being a "cheap alternative" have any real merit.

I'd also question how much use of Android 2.1 on the Desire you've actually had - it was only out in T-Mobile stores last Thursday/Friday and Carphone Warehouse on Sim Free from last Wednesdy so unless you've spent £350-400 to buy one without a contract or entered into a contract and ordered via either of them, how much can you say about it?

HTC have clearly made use of the technology and experts far more versed in such matters than you or I claim it to be as good as the iPhone if not better. You can call it subject in individual reviews as you can with individual consumers but industry-scale is different.

Google are making constant OS updates which have allowed Android to make staggering progress which is very widely accepted to be the case.

The ridiculous lawsuits involving HTC, Google, Apple and Elan are just a further indication of this.

Cheap Alternative =/= Cheap Pretender.

The point is that I don't believe the Desire to be anything other than a copycat technology, despite the specification, it doesn't have the usability that made the iPhone initially so popular for personal use. Experts far more versed have their own mediums to comment, I don't need to reiterate their opinions.

There are many instances of technology markets with rival products that are better according to statistics yet are not the preferred product with the public. PS2 vs Xbox?

In any case, I don't really care that much now.

You're not reading my posts properly.

The upshot Meyyappan is that we're not even discussing the N95.
