I remember playing Konami's Int'l Superstar Soccer in SNES years ago, and there was this neat feature, "challenges" where we are put in the shoes of a predetermined team in medias res. E.g. you'd be playing Italy in the World Cup final against Spain, you're 0-1 down in the 70th minute and one of your player was sent off. If you manage to turn the tables, you beat the challenge. Of course there are other challenges as well.
I don't suppose it's that hard to program. That would be really cool.
(Of course it might be suggested or even implemented in some other games. I don't know — I'm not that knowledgeable, just suddenly recalled it and needed to jot it down. So there. :) )
