Lads I'm happy to report that online is all we hoped, as Dan and Sweey can attest. But Sweey you left before all the good stuff began!

Me and Dan decided to take a trip up to Tall Trees to hunt bears, which I've yet to encounter in the game. As soon as we enter Bearclaw Camp I'm astonished to see a rider being attacked by a bear. We dismount and I pull back as Dan stands on the edge of a small cliff, facing the bear coming at him. Little does he know two more just bypassed me and were running straight for him from the side. Now if ever I wish I'd have captured something for posterity it was my view as both bears dived on Dan, and went over the cliff with him. I thought I'd die laughing. I then shot the other bear and he goes over the ledge and lands on Dan's carcass at the bottom. I was really pleasantly surprised to see loads of bears fucking everywhere.

We then pressed on further into the snowy areas, with Moose and wolves, and got to the top of Nekiti (sp?) Rock, where lies a small cave with bones and shit inside. As I understand, this is where the big fuck-off Grizzly lives, and not Bigfoot as Dan suggested. We waited around for a bit, see if it turned up. It was getting dark in-game when Dan decided to leave. I think he was scared. I know I was. I suggest we go up tomorrow with a huge mob to exterminate the fat hairy cunt.

I was too busy earlier on throwing me and my horse off ridges and cliffs while trying to work out what bloody direction to go in to reach my destination.

I couldn't stop laughing at the run in with the bears last night. Just when you think you've got one handled, another pack will come out of fucking nowhere and maul you from behind. When I eventually stopped laughing I was about to run over to Barn when one killed me again, it then went and attacked a random civilian on a horse. He and the horse were dead before he even pulled out his gun.

I propose all of us with the game get online at some point tonight and run wild.

btw - When I put a marker on the map last night, could you guys see it? Or is only the leader's route shown?

Setting up a posse seems to be centred around an individual (the leader) inviting people by clicking on them - I assume not inviting them to a specific game but perhaps doing so in the actual area? Not sure.

Last night's session was sort of disappointing. Partly my fault as I sense I missed the best part (I was on the phone from 9:30-10:15, which also accounts for why I forgot to invite one or two people), and by the end I think we lost focus and just killed each other. Really we need 8 or more people on and start some of those animal survivor missions and gang hideout/deathmatch modes. Also once we get the lassos and dynamite I sense things will get more entertaining. After the Champions League final seems a decent time. We should also go after some of the rare spawns:

Yeah, it was good fun for the first hour or so, but after we came up against those banditos it got a bit dull, which is why I left to change my online character's appearance and then did a couple missions in Single-Player.

Sweey I only did that because I was hoping you'd fall off. First time I've been up there.

It's odd, because sometimes you respawn in an area in between that mining town and the snowy area just before Nekoti Rock. But I've no idea how you get there naturally. Climbing cliff brings you to the other side with the mining town, but you can't get down. If you go down the other way it's too high to get back up again. I was hoping that tunnel that leads to the ledge would initially offer a solution to this.

I'm all for not killing people. I only kill Phat and Jonno because they can't seem to resist killing me. Having said that, I can't resist killing Donkeys. And I want a Bison as a mount as soon as possible.

Bez - you can before you enter the proper game modes. Me and Jonno had a few. He killed me twice and on the third we both killed each other, though I won for some reason.

That's why 2/3 might be better. Occasionally some of us won't see the message so its a safer bet for 2/3 as any of us can invite if e know how (Select -> R1 -> Triangle)

While I enjoy the free roam, it is already becoming a little tiresome, I'm sorry to say. Apart from the assaulting gang hideouts, there's little in the way of orchestrated activities. Sure fighting bears and crashing wagons off bridges and cliffs is always a laugh (highlights of the evening for me was seeing Fab getting pounced upon by three bears at once and me crashing my wagon off the railway bridge, also taking Phat and his horse to their deaths), but there's only so much you do in this mode. There's not many people about, no trains, etc. Hunting for the rare animals will probably require a lot patience and bore people fairly quickly. I think it's wise of Rockstar to release this co-op pack at the end of the month. They would be wise also to add trains, lassos, and the same kind of random attacks and events you get in SP. Just make it more interesting.

I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about the game already - it's brilliant - but I think you're probably all feeling like this after a few sessions online. I know Jonno does, he grew tired last night. The free roam is a great concept but needs work I feel.

That is very true. The only saving grace tonight was the Capture The Bag etc. mode games and while there are others, Free Roam needs some work. What we've not done yet is all gathered in Online Private, one of us moved to Online Public and invited everyone through and then tried some of the games. There must be ways to play against other gangs even if its only in the Capture The Bag etc. games.

I felt the same on the first day, but hen again, we were playing pretty much non-stop for 12 hours. I'm looking forward to hog tying other online gamers and tying them to train tracks (it would be annoying if they could quit before getting hit and disappear). I'd also love to see the result of tying people to the back of trains and being dragged off into the distance. Or even lassoing a train and see what happens.

The way I do it with guys from EWB is just create a private game, invite everyone into it, get your posse formed, move into the public room and then choose Team Gang games using select. The 'leader' should automatically take everyone in the posse with him both times.

Yep, had problems. Then I was eventually able to join after an invite from Phatmann but the moment I got to the game it started synchronizing again and wouldn't stop.

I agree about the matching rules: it should find you a posse if you're part of one. It was a decent session.

Just before I left we got in a game with a posse of 3 and another posse of 2. The posse of 3 were right by the fort as were we but by the time we got in the fort they'd ran off down one of the roads round the back of the fort. I think it's best off if one person finds a free roam with a lot of people in then invites others, like I did in that game. If we have a decent number in our posse, it's likely to pair us with only 1 or 2 other people.

Their weapons were infinitely better. The first one had a rapid-fire pistol though getting on my horse and charging him with my shotgun often worked. It was fun for the most part but more of us need to be on.

Got the game yesterday, but as I see the multi-player part has committed suicide. I don't think I could pry myself away from single player anyway though. I'm sure this could pick up again near the end of the summer, so I shall be waiting.

Sadly the Cuntsboro' Creek Gang seems to have died, for reasons already discussed. Hopefully Rockstar have taken on board the widespread criticism of Free Roam and will attempt to rectify it in future DLC.

I've gotten 100% in single player and the multiplayer still blows at the moment, so i won't be playing it again any time soon, until new SIngle Player DLC comes out.

Yeah there is really bad lag when it comes to enemies moving, so you could shoot exactly where they are, but the shot wont register because they're not actually there.......shocking. Stick to offline DLC rockstar, please!!!

Perhaps we could do some co-op missions next time? I tried some with Bammers which looked decent but with only two of us playing we got annihilated. I remember the mission we did back in the old days where we had to push the cart along was good fun. Also, it could be a good way of levelling up.

I don't know if they had it before but I liked the fact that all the tomahawks Barn threw at me stayed in me when Barn failed to finish me off. The shootout with Mak was good fun too but I'm sure he'll disagree.

I think we need to synchronize the jumping off the bridge, so we all do it at the same time. Could be lolz if we were in a shootout with another posse and then we all just jumped off the bridge. They wouldn't know what's hit them!

Anyway, I think we should go and find a free roam, where there are other posses next time, as then you can do the 'capture the building'-type games.

I take it you can jump right into online (from a main menu)? As opposed to GTA IV where you had to access it via the mobile phone.

Yes, on the main menu there is a "multiplayer" option. Would be great if we could take over that fort again and defend it against other posses with the cannons.
