PES fans who have been calling for a Mark Lawrenson-free game rejoice... The once-mustachioed pundit won't appear in PES 2011, CVG has learnt.

Although previous PES commentator Jon Champion has been retained for the new title, Lawrenson has been replaced by ITV man Jim Beglin.

Some PES players have criticised Lawrenson in the past for sounding disinterested during play.

"We're keeping Jon Champion," European PES team leader Jon Murphy told CVG. "Lawrenson's delivery was a little forced at times. But that was partly him not living it in the studio and partly the way our scripts were written. Neither helped the other.

With Jon Champion we've always had someone who's better at ad libbing. We've not only changed one member of the commentary team - which I hope people will be really pleased about - but we've gone for a much more live effect with the sound generally.

"We've changed the scripts, the studios we use etc. So we have done a certain amount. I think we've done enough to improve the atmosphere. In addition, the menu screens are a lot less 'Japanese-y'; a lot less clunky than they have been in the past.

I got this info from this: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=249073

So, what's your thoughts on the new commentator?

I think the new partnership will work well :)

I'm pleased Lawro is out... but Beglin? Poor choice. Looks like FIFA will still have the upper hand in this aspect.

I like Beglins commentary. That's the only reason I made this thread, if it was anyone else I wouldn't have bothered lol :w00t

But yeah, I think FIFA will still have the upper hand in commentary.
Even though I hate Andy Gray  I must admit his commentary is good :ninja:

I think this is a very good step, its gona have a champions league feel about it this year with the two commentators, Fifa have always had good commentary partly because the script is alot bigger with facts etc but also because of the freedom now introduced since fifa 10! the bigger script is gone and they comment live on games that EA produce in front of them!

I heard that over 600 games where commented on to get the intricate level for fifa 10

 What a stoomer that is!

I actually don't mind Lawro. The commentary is poor because Konami hand them a script wrote by a couple of invalids of smack.

I am a kinda new convert to PES with PES2010 being my first taste... (FIFA was all I played prior to seeing the light) and I would actually say PES commentators are better then FIFA's... I love in PES when they mention player stats in Master League games like how many goals my striker has scored in the past 4 games or the fact that if he scores one more he will be the top goal score for the league... or even when they mention the formation at the start of the game and how it relates to last weeks results... This is way ahead of FIFA. I know PES can sound a little clunky at times but I still reckon it feels more realistic then FIFA.

The commentators talk nonsense! Eg my striker once scored a hat trick in one game, then the next he scored again and the coommentator said he is in fine form, that's two from two now. No it's not it 4 in two!!

GREAT news! Seriouly Jim Beglin is a good commentator, a lot better than that fag. But aren't we supposed to be getting gameplay videos? Can someone give me links if i've missed any.

I think this is good and i think jim is good, and its always nice to have fresh commentry becuase lawro was just so poor he made jon champion look stupid like hes loud and excited and lawro wishes he wasnt there, and apparently there recorded in a new studio so should be good.

Seems very strange in this era of football gaming but welcome aboard. Do yourself a favour and pick up a copy of PES' 5 & 6. You won't be disappointed.

The commentators are crap on PES.

If you pass the ball and keep possesion for ages, it seems like the commentators have gone for a tea break. They don't say a word!

I think the commentators should talk more - but only if there improved in PES2011.

Jon Champion and Jim Beglin sound like a good combination :)

Well we can all safely say FIFA beats PES for commentary, maybe Beglin along with a better script can help change that.

^Fifa's commentary was always much better. :)
I hope we get more scripts because as liverpool way mentioned. When you're in possesion, the commentators won't commentate. That's just annoying.
About the new commentator. I think it will be better but who knows. Here's waiting again. :)

IMO this means that from his last two strikes he has scored... so the last 2 times your striker had a shot it went in. This would mean the commentary was correct. Obviously I know PES2010 has its issues in this departmenat but after playing FIFA for years & years I find PES surprisingly more on the money with tracking your game and your season in general.

Lets hope 2011 is all class! ;)

I personally don't rate Beglin as a co-commentator, but at least we now have two ITV based commentators rather than a BBC/ITV combo.

As long as the commentary is much more fluid and more 'real' then I don't have a problem with who it is.

Beglin's even worse than Lawrenson :faceplm: although, as has already been said, it's what the commentators actually say that needs improving, although it appears Konami are doing that, which is encouraging.

Mind you, if it was up to me, they'd bring back Peter and Trevor :smug:

I find it a challenge to watch football on ITV due to Beglin

I was playing PES5 the other day, I couldn't stand the commentary!

However, it was much more fluid and the commentary was very frequent too :)

It would be nice to have PES2011 Commentary like watching live football on ITV/Sky.

Afterall, Konami did they they want it to be like we're watching a live TV broadcast :D

Very true, but also very difficult.

Neither PES nor FIFA have released a title I'll listen to the commentary on for more than a couple of games. I do live in hope though.

if konami does not give them a good script any commentator will suck, they should be able to say the liscensed team in names like "manchester utd has the lead!" and make full sentences with the players name, like "fernando torres has scored twice in this game".

^^ bigger and better scripts are needed and maybe a bit of free roam like in fifa!!

The Liverpool Way
11-06-2010, 18:08
I agree...

Even if the teams are not licenced, it would still be nice to hear the commentators say 'London FC kick of the game'

Or even better when there is a derby game, for example Liverpool vs Ev**ton, the commentators could at least say 'It's a big game today, it is the Merseyside Derby'

They're not saying Liverpool or Evert*n, so no licencing issues there is there?

Questioning if a manager has lost his marbles because he hasn't changed his team at half-time, just because it's a low-score draw or you're 1-0 down. Very few top managers are that reactionary.

I've always hated that.

As a Liverpool fan, I've always felt a bit bad regarding my new found resentment of Mark Lawrenson, who is a Liverpool Legend in all accounts, but he's terrible! His World Cup performance has been cringeworthy, he's just trying to crack jokes constantly, which all go down like a lead balloon!

However, Jim Beglin came to prominence for last seasons Europa League, and he was even worse!

As long as Farmer Mick McCarthy doesn't get invited, i'll be alright. ;)

I cannot stand Lawro. He sounds like some outdated bitter grumpy granddad and provides commentary thats out of touch with reality. I seriously could do a better a job, offers no good insight and obseverations on the match are obvious with lame jokes and camp innuendo that are not funny.

I like mick because he offers something different, even though he is monotone he is no holds barred and says whats on his mind while providing good alternative insight as never sits on the fence saying the obvious cliche tripe

That'll be as he talks utter bollocks.

A mate suggested Lineker as a good option. A few years back I'd likely have slapped him. Now though... I wouldn't mind.

He doesnt talk bollocks he actually good co commentator, not the best but his frankness and opinion on events is usually spot on and breath of fresh air, most others dont have the balls to say what they really think of the match, and gloss over controversial issues prefering to be diplomatic and giving run of the mill opinions stating the obvious or bias for when the top teams play.

what i would say is... goodbye lawro..

i dont like his commentary on bbc nevermind pro evo... dont get me wrong i'm a liverpool fan thorough and through, but lawro is dire at best..

don't get me wrong he was good for liverpool, but his commentary is absolutely terrible. especially as he sounds (in pes) like he is reading off a script... almost as bad as mick "parasite football" mccarthy on the BBC

i dont know.. i just want a half decent commentary with the game! : yes FIFA :ninja: has good commentary i want something that can equal it..

what it boils down to is i want 2 commentators that sound like they are commentating a game rather than one commentate ok, the other read a script... i dont know if jim beglin is a good choice.. but anythings better than lawro or mick.. lol.. i say get rid of jon champion bring in motty.. but thats just me ;)
