You should have an "Other" slot. You've missed out people like Talib Kweli (undoubtedly the greatest lyricist of all time), Mos Def, Common, Nas, and many others.
Personally, I like Canibus - lyrically astute, his flow is the best in my opinion. Try and get hold of whichever of his albums contains the track "100 Bars" on it - that track, in itself, argues and makes my point for me decisively.
will f*ckin smith? you what
having 50 on the list is also dumb when you're missing out big names like nas, jay-z, ice t etc as well as the lesser knowns like nifty mentioned
nas at the top of his game is unstoppable, plus i luv his flow so i'll go with him just to be different from everyone who'll say pac or dre

Rakim is deep, but he's never produced enough of his own goods to make the top-notch list.
When you compare him to someone like Talib Kweli, he gets dwarfed - because although Rakim is lyrically comparable (arguable, but still), his flow is nowhere near the calibre.
The tune "I Get High" by Kweli & Mos Def proves my point for me.
Tell me, has Will Smith ever written anything even near:
That's why we paintin' pictures for the folks who down wit' us on the chorus
Emcees before us get cut down like rainforest, 'cos they bore us
Those two lines of Kweli's already supercede anything/everything written by most of the names on the poll.

Black Thought gets my call.
Kweli is awesome.
Anyone heard Abdominal? He rapped on that DJ Format song "Vicious Battle Raps". "He's got game", as twats would say.

sorry it don't compare to
'check out the hook while the DJ revolve it'
or 'licky boom boom down', I'm near rhapsodic tears just thinking of that message
out of the choices available i chose biggie but i agree about Kweli, Mos Def is quality aswell.

I don't know what to read into this, mutu. You've thrown a superfluous barrage of insults towards me recently, yet you seem genuinely interested in hearing my ideas on Shyne and Jadakiss.
Shyne is a dick-hoe. He has no flow, whatsoever. Lyrically, OK, nothing brilliant, yet there are worse. I just can't stand him, however, 'cos his flow is terrible. I won't say any more on him - he just ain't a rapper I like(d).
Jadakiss is potentially good, he's got a good unique voice for a rapper, and he has a confident use of multis (multi-syllable rhymes) and his knowledge of the technical side of flowing is sorted. Hip-hop's equivalent to technique, if you will. He's still a one-trick pony, though. Nothin' but ghetto. And, if you're going to do it, you need to stand out. He doesn't, or not enough at least. Sheek is more creative than Kiss with his lyrics, and for me, Styles P goes that little bit deeper than him. If you want to be big, you've got to be the main man in your own group, first. Jadakiss hasn't realised this.
Got any opinions of your own on these two, or any others (mentioned or unmentioned), Mutu?
Flipper, as for Abdominal, yes - I've heard him on "Vicious Battle Raps." He's brilliant, and DJ Format helps a great deal by laying some top tracks. Then again, Format primarily works as a solo producer, and so he's got to tell a story with his music alone, as he doesn't have the power of the rhyme to tell the prose. DJ Format is brilliant, and the album you're on about is quality - "We Know Something They Don't Know" is the stand-out track on that, for me.

before rap went pop(mainstream) and "gangsta"...the 18th letter...Rakim! oldskool hedz know! he was ahead of his contemporaries, during the 'golden' age of rap/hip-hop. but then again, too many to mention. this is like trying to list top100 footballers of all time...poor PELE!
You've thrown a superfluous barrage of insults towards me recently

I find my avatar to be equally erotic.
It genuinely came up when I searched Google for "adult gifs".
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . .
I think Dre is a crud rapper. Stick to the producing.
Big Pun was an underrated rapper. He had a true hip-hop side to him that wasn't seen enough.

Dre drops a good verse on "Bodyguard," though. Trying to prove he's back, which he isn't. He's terrible usually, but he has flickers of genius. Not exactly proper flickers, just little candle-chinked flickers that are barely seen due to their lack of brightness and distinguishing features.

Why've you put Will Smith when everyone knows it was Jazzy Jeff that did all the rapping and Will mimed.
Flipper the Priest
09-03-2004, 21:47
?
You can tell by the voice that it is Will Smith that rapped. Jazzy Jeff has a completely different accent. And may I add, is still a fine producer.

i wouldn't call it a flicker
he's class on bodyguard
Not a big rap fan, so I'll waste my vote on Will Smith...

i meant to say that it wouldn't suprise me to see 2pac win the vote'
Not a great fan of rap anymore, but listing Will Smith, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dre and Snoop Dogg alongside Tupac and B.I.G is an insult.
Although, the greatest rapper of all time has to be Big Pun. Even though I don't really like rap music anymore, I can still listen to him all day. Amazing lyricist, like a human thesaurus!
And Dre doesn't even write his own stuff.
