I just saw it. Everything looks great but I dont know. It looks a bit ping pong to me. I´m just hoping it´s played on regular level. Anyone noticed the too fast passes?

I'll give my thoughts tomorrow, cannot watch it. General consensus on WENB is very very positive...but personally I regard some people's opinions on here far more realistic to anyones on WENB.

I´m just gonna wait for some more videos. This one has two human players who deffo don´t know how to play football at all, all they do is run forward whenever they get the ball, no real passing between players at all.

I did manage to see it. Thought it was obviously the PES2010 engine; the animations still looked stiff and slighty robotic to my eyes. Some of the defending was awful (but that might simply be down to the players and/or difficultly levels), and on top of that I think the new "dumbed-down" tricks system is a nightmare waiting to happen.

@James Dean

But it's a bit like FIFA10; no good saying better human players would make the game look better because as in FIFA10 if you can play unrealistic shitty ping-pong passing that is what 95% of people DO play like especially online. Please can we stop making excuses for Konami?

P.S. The crowds still sound pretty awful as well

:) I agree with you Kiwanis.
I feel just the same as last year when we got the first real gameplay videos. Sad.
The game looks stiff, little ping pong. It just looks like an improved version of Pes 2010.
I just really hope I´m wrong.

The menu looks great though :)

Ok guys.....I see what you are saying but give credit it has improved to a playable, "unannoying" level. The dribbling looks nice and the trick system looks good!

03-08-2010, 15:56
Glad there is no whining indie emo music on the menu selection.

The movement and presentation looks a lot more crisp. Foot planting and players taking on the ball with their touch looks very good. And the tricks look slick. Only thing I'm concerned about is the goalkeepers look like a joke but hoping that is down to the difficulty level it's played on.

Well overall it's much better than pes 10.
The movement and the weight of the players is really felt and overall the animations are much better and less robotic. Still not as good as Fifa's, but from a distance, the animations looks really good. In close up, they're at times similar to pes 10, but with weight added.
So overall the animations are much improved.
The trick system CAN BE GREAT IF ONLY THE DEFENDING WILL BE IMPROVED.
From the first game, I saw some nice defensive challenges, but when messi had the ball, I started to worry, because he seemed untouchable.
So if the defending and goalkeeping are improved, then this will be awesome.:) BTW the passes are looking much better than before FINALLY.
Here's hoping. I also want the game to be difficult. But I cannot comment on this just yet.
So the only downsides I saw from the trailer were the defending and goalkeeping. I hope they'll improve.

Ok I take all of my comments so far on this video back. This video is played on a low difficulty and the human players don´t seem to know what they are doing as they probs have not played it for very long. I just can´t judge the whole game on a poor video like this. I´m gonna wait for another one, played by better human players and on the highest difficulty possible :)

shaun7
03-08-2010, 17:10
^Me too. But it's a little glimpse of what to expect. And I can comment on the animations and movements and passes. They seem better. Actually compared to pes 10, much better. Now let's hope that the defending and goalkeepers are also improved because as you said, that was on low level difficulty setting.
I'l also wait for another video because 1 isn't enough. I need much more.

I liked the gameplay. Through balls seem very nice and I liked the option for feints and dribbles. It adds an unpredictable factor to the game (specially against humans).

Of course, probably it is not the game we have been waiting for, but it seems much better than PES 2010.

With addition of Libertadores Cup, improvement of Master League, BAL and online, I think I will be satisfied.

I just ask Konami: please don't start again with the crazy scripting.

This game looks much better than PES 2010. Sure, the opening to a match is similar, but seeing the game in motion, it is far better than 2010, and I say better than any of the later FIFA offerings. The game just has a more solid feel to it than past games - the players and ball have weight - and FIFA just does not have that.

Animations look great. Konami seemed to have solved the two main issues with the animation system - smoother transitions and IK implementation. The result is very convincing for my money. The variety of animations looks impressive too, and subtle, which is why multiple viewings may be necessary.

Passing looks great, as does dribbling. We know that Messi run would be impossible in 2010, but I bet it will be impossible in FIFA 11 as well (surely would be in 10). As for the defence, I think we were seeing a low difficulty/human v human. The German passing moves on the Ozil goal and Klose chance were great and VARIED - looks like the passing works well to open up the game and allow for more realistic situations.

The goalkeeping on the Portugal goal was a cringe-worthy, but I hope that was an anomaly. Pen system is still not the best, but the new camera angle makes it look a bit more bearable and useable - I just hope aiming isn't as sensitive as 2010's.

I'm disappointed. Yes, it does look more fluid but I'm not seeing this whole 'freedom'. When sprinting, it seems like we have the same old fixed directions. I want PES to deliver, so I'll reserve judgement till the demo. If the demo's not really something to get excited about, I won't be buying it this year.

What is with the penalties?! Why did they change it? Did anyone not like the face-on pens? I thought they were great.

I’m sure I’m gonna get completely shot down for this, but I just watched the 720p video in those links and the game looks terrible. It’s PES2010 with some tweaks. I really don’t know where to start at how disappointing this game looks.

Okay, here goes (and cue the abuse)

- Sound. It sounds awful. Tinny sounding crowds, repetitive chants, awful shrill whistle from previous editions is STILL there. I mean seriously, how can they keep the same sound design, it was terrible in PES2010 etc.

- Animations. Again, these look AWFUL. Players don’t move like real people, they kick the ball in a strange manner, Messi on several occasions glides across the pitch like he’s hovering above it. Messi is travelling so much faster than the defenders around him that his legs don’t even keep the same speed that he’s travelling. Players seem to again move in a robotic way, and when they kick the ball, their stance is all wrong, their foot sometimes doesn’t even look like it comes into contact with the ball, and look looks wrong. Check out Kuyt’s penalty, what kind of kicking action is that?

- Physics. The ball doesn’t move realistically. It barely bobbles. One clip shows a Germany player latching onto a lofted through ball, and he brought the ball down and under immediate control with no bouncing, nothing. And when players dribble with the ball, it looks horrific. The player will tap the ball in front of him, then it almost ’snaps’ back onto his foot like it’s tied to a rubber band. Utterly awful. And again, I cannot believe how the hype has had us all thinking the game will play differently when the first proper extended gameplay clip shows Messi able to turn and dribble past half the team, travelling stupidly fast and drilling it into the net.

- Goalkeepers. Check out the Portugal goal near the very end of the video. The player somehow dribbles through the defence thanks to the fact that the ball is tied to his foot (again, no bobbling or proper ball physics). BUT, he manages to dribble into the six yard box before the keeper seems to even realise the ball is there, and the guy pumps the ball into a near empty net.

I really want to think this game will signal my old love of PES but this just looks robotic, dependant on fast players, and more of the same. Bugger.

^I never watch youtube HD because it sucks. The framerate is nothing like an HD video should be so there will be skipping. It's better if we judge by the demo or by a proper HD video.:)

well, pretty much what i expected, i like that now players run more smoothly and do not look like theyre squating anymore. gameplay may be a little faster than it should be, but it does seem better than videos from a year ago of pes2010. also keep in mind that these users playing in this videos are probably playing with default formations and tactics. and just giving it a quick go. so don't expect to see great defensive play or players running into free space and stuff like that.

menus look cool, but as far as animations. same ol same ol. nothing that captivated my eye, like say WOW. atmosphere still looks the same, and the few goal celebrations we saw were not anything different either, i did notice photo snaps in the crowd, entrance to the stadium is same, and not much going on around the pitch.

hopefully we get a good online mode and good gameplay, because as far as animation konami is stuck in the ps2 era.

After watching it last night I actually thought it looked awesome! If I had to think back to last year and my reaction to the first PES10 gameplay movies and compare it to this...I think PES11 looks very good this year, and I'm definitely getting it!

Plus after reading the initial reactions of Fifa 11 gameplay movies on the fifa forums, most people are either frustrated, mad or dissapointed.

My biggest wish for PES11 was that it was smooth, and according to this video it's much smoother than PES10. It actually looks fun to play! Can't wait, I think this is going to be the best PES on this generation of systems!

Not too worried about the defense, if you look the Messi goal you'll see the guy playing as Portugal really messed up his defense by rapidly changing players and letting Messi through. Though other parts the defens could've been better, but it doesn't look like a trainsmash to me...the goalies on the other hand needs serious improvement, they look horrible

I've just watched it at 360p because Flash for Mac is tripe and it looks much more fluid than PES10.

People keep complaining about pes 2010 being "sluggish" in control. I think pes2010 was great when you got used to it as there was feeling of weight and difficulty in controls.

Pes still has of course many other things to fix, (personally I'd like to see some improvements on tricksystem, as it's now pretty much like "stars can do tons of stuff, other players pretty much nothing too useful".
But I'm sure Pes2011 will nail at least me as it has done year after year.

It seems that EVERY year I at least personally have NOT liked the new Pes (well maybe Pes6 I liked immedieately as it was masterpiece). But always grown into it and had tons of fun, especially with a friend in same team Master League who covers normally a bit lacking own team players AI

Meaning I'm sure I'll grow into new pes when it comes as well :)

Agreed! Although no completely open editing is a let down, the fact that we can edit league emblems and make shoulder patches is key. Not to mention the pretty extensive stadium editor. Prem sides will finally look legit (at least mostly) :D. Also, grumblings of no more edit slots means that we can finally have a solid ML experience with realistic lower division sides being promoted.

Getting very excited.

I will reserve my final judgement for the demo, as although it looks very smooth etc. no one will really know how well the 360 degree movement is implemented untill playing the game!

on a sidenote: Adam of WENB is a real moron, he keeps on saying he spent extensive time with ML, but of all the ML questions he is being asked he can only answer the real minimum...sigh.

I saw some preview about ML and it´s supposed to be the same as last year.
The crew at wenb just has no credibility after Pes 2010. I remember after the demo came out their words were "Fantastic, outstanding, playing ML will be epic"
Sites like Pesgaming.com and few others are much better if you want a fair discussion of Pes games.

Jury out for me. It looks crisper and neater as you would expect, but still doesn't seem like an overhaul from 10. Messi still looked super human, the crowd noises and atmosphere sounded no different, and animations and goal celebrations look exactly the same. One thing that concerned me was the goalkeepers still look useless, just watch Portugal's goal, and how slow was Ozil to react after he scored? One plus point though was the crappy indie/emo music has thankfully gone.

Its just a video though, so its impossible to judge how the game feels and plays. I anticipate further game play videos and the demo.

05-08-2010, 18:16
It looks good, but the ball looks as though it's moving on ice.

Also, the goal at 6:10 is annoying, because the GK should be making an effort to save it, not just spinning around looking into the net - they've done that on PES for years. If they're not going to make an effort on fixing it so the GK tries saving it, at least change the animation and have him facing the player who's shooting the whole time.

Football Kingdom really does remind me of what PES used to be about.

I don't understand how Konami have lost their way so much. The more and more I look at PES2011, the more and more disheartened I am by it. I'll probably plump for FIFA on the evidence thus far - but it's just sad that nobody can see to pick up what a next-gen footy game should be like.

Football Kingdom is a PS2 game, and quite frankly, look far slicker than any of the next-gen games. Obviously, it is far from perfect, but there are things Konami should take from it.
