The demo mate. Some people will get to play it tomorrow on PS3 but a lot of us will have to wait until next week for the PC version.

Anybody care to enlighten the rest of us without the demo to short run through?
Graphics:
same as pes10 but slightly refined
Sound:
no atmosphere as there was a barrage of noise and commentary was not in the demo
Commentary:
No commentary
Menu:
Slick and easy to use but I find the match plan ui very weird and confusing, I prefer it to be worded than pictures.
Shooting:
Much Better than pes 2010 as you can no longer score from impossible angles.
Passing:
most improved aspect of the game, the passing feels like having no ai assists as the ball always goes where you want it to.
Dribbling:
Too easy, I was playing it on top player and I still managed to whizz through whole team with puyol, i think its mainly konamis fault that they havent managed to make a balance between holding back and pressing.
Goalkeepers:
Much improved than pes2010 as now the keeper holds the ball more often than parrying it away.
Freekicks:
Ive never been an expert in FK's and for me its the same as pes2010 but with the power bar in the middle of the screen.
Penalties:
Same as pes2010 and I hate it, its virtually impossible to shoot to the side and getting the ball on target.
Skills:
At first I found it a fad and a gimmick but with a couple of games I have found it a very effective tool against the AI, but I still havent managed to learn how to link feints, maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points:
Awesome passing and shooting mechanics and the animations are awesome, I also find the game very fluid.
Bad points:
After being a pes player for years this iteration I found it too slow even at +2 speed, but Ive managed to get used to it.
The referees are fixed but with my experience a slide tackle to the front of the player ends in a foul even though I got the ball first.
Lastly I hate the cpu assisted tackling as its exposed a problem from pes2008 and that was it slides tackle for you without you telling it to so I lost many penalties due to this.
Hope I helped... Peace (Y)
Graphics:
superb as always , i think they look a nocth better this year, The pitch looks fab
Sound:
no commentry for the demo . BUT MUCH MUCH better atmosphere , fans cheer , on both sides , and it feels like it should. Makes pes 10 look so battered and old.
Commentary:
Menu:
as some have said ! sexy ! , they are very.
Shooting:
its now more challenging to shoot , you need timing space, and it just feels sooo satisfying taking a decent shot , a goal . even better , the ball now swerves and looks so much realistic than before. Loved every bit of it.
Passing:
brand new system , which takes getting use to , but its fantastic. once you get hold of it . you must measure each pass , and the learning curve is their to help you. I can make through passes using X , and the ball can be put anywhere,
Dribbling:
dribbling for some may be difficualt to pick up , but once done. Man you feel in complete control ! , feels great making a run with ribery or messi. Much more realistic.
Goalkeepers:
il be honest , i have not yet after 10 matches expercianced keeping problem, They goalies have been better animated , better saves. And look so much better than last years effort.
Freekicks:
much more easier , i remember i tapped sqaure with robben , and it was going in , but my brother put pique on the line and stopped it . Faboulous.
Penalties:
need to get the hang of them.
Skills:
IMPROVED , BETTER. and they do NOT break gameplay , i ran with messi did some step overs looked great , but in no way was their a balance issue. i dont about others though.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points:
animations are improved
-its fluid
-the game speed can be changed , which is a gret aspect
- passing feels realistic
- shooting and scoring is satisfying.
-dribbling is better
- the level of freedom is astonishing.
-PES IS BACK .
-atmoshphere has improved.
Bad points:
theres room for improvemnt next year ,
id like to see more fluidity. and animations , espeically during celebrations which can be worked on .
FINAL NOTE
I PLAYED 5 SECS INTO THE DEMO IN MY FIRST GAME , and i began to emotional , the improvment for me was soo vast , it felt brilliant to play.
i can honestly say , after years of disapoitment for me . PES is back . and it feels great to play , so much fun . I took to FIFA last year, and this years PES is making me feel as if there is no need to play EA s game again.
and on a note .
who voted for its the same ? is that some sick joke lool .
pes 2010 feels like last gen .
I just got my hands on the demo. When i entered the game it felt kinda different.
The menu, the formation panel, it's all different. It's the game we've been wanting for years :) Thank you konami! <3 :)

Graphics:
In general the same as in PES 2010, some smooth adjustments. Nou Camp stadion looks more impressive then in previous version for some reason.
Sound:
Is ok, still some old chants from PES in the stone age but you will hardly notice it. Shooting on the bar makes a kind of weird noise.
Just missing the target gives some nice sound of the supporters.
Commentary:
No commentary in this demo, should be in general the same as in previous versions.
Menu:
Looks nice and neat, formation settings and substitutes is now clubbed in 1 screen. You will have to get a bit used to it but i think it as a great improvement.
The sound when pressing OK reminds me of International Superstar Soccer on SNES :)
Shooting:
I tend to shoot too hard and high right now, will have to get used to it.
Passing:
Completely different then before and a really good improvement. You have more control then ever before. Requires a while to get used too.
Dribbling:
Seems to go more fluid, i am not that much a type of a dribbler so can not tell yet.
Goalkeepers:
Better for sure
Freekicks:
Seems quite similar like last edition.
Penalties:
Have not yet had a penalty, seems to be the same as in PES2010 and that sucks.
Skills:
Can't tell yet
-------------------------------------------------
Good points:
- New passing system
- Plays better
Bad points:
- Penalties seem to be the same
Tonite i will play again some matches and see if i can beat Barca @ Top Player with Bayern :)

Overall the demo is getting some great response from people all over the world. Though
Iīm seeing mixed feelings about the Top Player difficulty on a few forums. Some say
itīs to easy and others say itīs freaking hard.
So Pro They Go Whoa

Graphics: A bit better than PES2010, player models are a slight improvement
Sound: Not bad, no soundtrack on menu's yet so can't comment on choices of songs etc. Stadium sound is pretty much the same as last year but I don't notice it when I'm trying to win!
Commentary: None yet.
Menu: Clean and to the point, bit more of a next gen feel and easier to navigate
Shooting: Big improvement, the new power bar works well as you don't have to look at the bottom left of the screen anymore to check how much power is on a shot.
Passing: Best improvement out of them all. It's kinda semi-auto, it goes in the direction you want but not necessarily straight to the player, will take some practice to perfect
Dribbling: Different players have diff styles, Messi for example has a much diff dribble tech to say Xavi etc etc
Goalkeepers: Not a vast improvement, but certainly an improvement from last year.
Freekicks: Not had one yet
Penalties: Or a penalty
Skills: Not tested any yet
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: Passing, choice of game speed (I use -1, -2 is too slow and 0 is a tad fast for how I like to play, +2 is promotes ping pong football!)
Bad points: The stupid trailer you can't skip at the end of a game, quit to the XMB before the 90 mins is up and reload the demo to save time

havent played the demo so i dont know. But imo its how people play the game that defines if top player is too easy or hard. If your shit its hard. If your good it should still be hard. If you dont mind constantly scoring crap goals and not playing proper football its easy. My feelings for hard difficulties in general on football games.
I like to play on hard so i lose a few games and such a season and i arent top of the table witha stupid GD every season. I tend to try and score good footballing goals. Dont get me wrong, if a tap in arrises i will take it. But i think the people who find these difficulties easy dont play football. They find a way to win and just keep doing it. Like running down the wing and tapping back for a tap in. Its exhilirating to play and watch such stuff :/ (sarcasm)

This exactly. When i'm on the same side as my friend who has this approach he complains at me for attempting some build up play rather than just running down the wing then tapping it in

Top Player is an ok difficulty. Ive played 4 games on it so far, 1 with each team. I like it and it will be my difficulty setting of choice along with -1 Game Speed. I thought, Id get massacred by Barca on top player but held them to a 2-2 draw so Im not complaining :D
Graphics: Bloody old plasma tv cant give me the best graphic that it should have
Sound: I gotta say its awful. But the sound when kicking the ball is awesome.
Commentary: None
Menu: Its the best one ive seen so far. More modern, colorful and professional.
Shooting: A very big improvement, it seems to be very realistic.
Passing:This is my most favorite thing about pes 2011. I totally love the passing. Crosses, Long Passes, Short Passes, they are all awesome. The ball physics in 2011 are soooo realistic.
Dribbling: Its fun to dribble. But its way too easy to dominate the defenders. I was able to dribble through 5 or 6 players and thats something they gotta work on.
Goalkeepers: Gks were improved but they still seem a bit dumb. Their reactions when facing 1 on 1 with the player of the opposite team are bit slow, and the animations sometimes arent really nice.
Freekicks:I didnt have many free kicks while playing the demo, but stimes long fks passing animations are the same and they look unrealistic for me.
Penalties:The worst thing i found about pes. I would prefer to have the penalties to be like Fifa WC.
Skills:Its too easy to do the link feints and you can do rainbow flick like 10 times constantly
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: Good graphics, definitely better gameplay than last year, Better animations, Passing and shooting are brilliant.
Bad points: Awful penalty system, and i hate it when littlest touch can make a foul, it was a small touch and the referees just gave a free kick. The dribbling needs to be improved, it shouldnt be that easy to dribble through 5 or 6 players. Gks at times choose the wrong position and they should react faster than now. There are very very small little things that i hope to see those to be improved.
To be honest, i dont think it can beat Fifa 11 this year. Still have to wait for the demo, but according to what ive seen, people might say fifa 11 looks similar to fifa 10, they probably havent noticed the changes in shooting and passing in fifa 11, the ball seems to be heavier and gks are very good, the ball physics were improved, different players have different styles of dribbling. I'll have to wait till next week to make my final decision. I want the better game this year, not buying both like i did the last 3 years :) Pes 2011 is a fun game to play with, its fun with passing and shooting, however, they still need another improvement to have it as the best football game. Soz for my shitty english :P
Looking and feeling is fine. But if it ain't doing it online.......then its horseshit.

That's encouraging. :P

I am hearing alot of complaints on the Ref. Apparently far too many fouls are being called and this is even with good clean tackles.
Is this true? Is the game flowing ok?

Is this true? Is the game flowing ok?
Yea sadly its true but on the flip side you get away with some bad tackles.
Can't believe people are rating the graphics so highly.
May be it's just me and my TV (although I have HD), but in game the graphics are awful, everything has jaggedy lines and is rough around the edges, looks like a PS2 game.
^Don't know, but on youtube, I've seen some HD footage with capture cards and the graphics looks like pes 10 not like a ps2 game. Now it may be that konami downgraded the quality a little to downsize the download file.
Graphics: (8.5) probably a bit better than last year but i dont really care about graphics that much
Sound: (6) not that great the sound of the ball hitting the post is terrible imo
Commentary: N/A
Menu: (9) love it
Shooting: (7) hard to mark this one need more time to practice really hard to keep the ball low when shooting from outside the box
Passing: (9) love it
Dribbling: (8) didn't really try to much dribbling love the passing to much
Goalkeepers: (8) didn't see anything badly wrong with the keepers does seem improved from last year
Freekicks: (9) always loved the freekick system anyway
Penalties: (1) harsh maybe but i hated the penalties on pes2010 and i've had 3 so far and missed all
Skills: (9) loving them i find them pretty easy to do good way to win freekicks
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: Feels like you have complete control love it after playing this one even with its faults i could never play the old ones now.
Bad points:
CPU kicksoff for you.
Bad camera angles in replays of fouls & freekicks.
CPU sometimes does sliding tackles for you.
Don't like the camera angle at kickoff taks a few seconds to get to the one you set it to.
Offside problem still seems to be there maybe its the way i play i just think half the time the player whos in an offside position should not be just makes no sense to why he was that far at the pitch im sure some of you will understand what im saying.
Players doing bicycle kick when they should'nt be.
Penalised for well time tackles
Can't think of anymore for now even tho i put more bad points than good i do really like the game much better than pes 2010.

PLEASE LISTEN PES TEAM
been playing pes since pes 5.
what I like:
good online modes.
what I don't:
pes 08, 09 and 2010 were arcade games on ps3.
pes 2011 normal gamplay setting has got to be as true to life as possible.

A great goal which shows the attacking ability of the AI(Professional)

on the ps3 settings turn off the deep colour setting, the same happened to me after the fw 3.4
so they brought that back oh noes
STUPID KONAMI, there is an option to turn it on and off, and konami always leaves it on by default, WTF!!!

Fantastic demo. It has its errors and bugs but they are so small compared with the quality of the gameplay. Iīm not gonna ruin the game for myself just because I donīt like the boots, nets or something stupid like that. Itīs a wonderful game. :)

amazing demo! No doubt its going to be the most realistic football game available on the market when its released ! Why the daam video always keep playing after the demo ?
Graphics: (7.5) slightly better than last year but not very impressive.
Sound: (6.0) fair
Commentary:
Menu: (9.0) very well presented.
Shooting: (6.5) realistic but feels a bit floaty sometimes..
Passing: (9.5) the best thing about pes 2011.
Dribbling: (7.5) realistic but too easy
Goalkeepers: (7.0) improved but are not fixed completely
Freekicks: (7.0)
Penalties: (5.0) bad
Skills: (7.0)
Being in the U.S. I went out of my way to get a UK PSN card and plus from the UK store. When I frist started playing the demo I wasn't sure it was worth the effort to play it early. After getting to grips with the passing I am loving the demo. the passing and crossing are fantastic IMO. I personally would like a player run button like fifa has but I did notice as others have if you mess with tactics and user R2 they will make runs. You really can play some slick football when the passing comes off which it doesn't always which is a good thing IMO.
At the moment, I can't stop playing the demo the good thing is that it took time to grow on me which reminds of the good PES games of the past. The more I play it the more I enjoy which is a good sign IMO.

Just got a few games of the PC version and I'm holding out on giving my verdict until I play it on PS3 tomorrow. My PC is old enough now and her poor heart isn't as strong as it used to be.
Graphics: Graphics are pretty much the same from last year, just a bit more detailed.
Sound: Haven't noticed a lot of difference, don't really pay attention to it.
Commentary:
Menu: Very slick and modern menus.
Shooting: Shooting is better than last year, but i think the shots are a bit too powerful and they don't seem to come down once they hit the air.
Passing: Passing is just amazing, the way you can spread the ball all around the pitch, anywhere you like. Got to be the strongest point about PES this year.
Dribbling: The dribbling looks realistic and it feels great when you get it right.
Goalkeepers: Keepers have been improved but not as much as i expected. Even though the new animations look really good.
Freekicks: Same as last year but it feels a bit different. Maybe because of the amount of power in the shots. A bit unrealistic at times, as i took a free kick straight at the keeper and it rocketed over his head.
Penalties: Haven't had any yet.
Skills: Skills seem to be great if you can pull them off, still haven't figured out how to link them.

Does anyone feel like scoring isn't as satisfying as it used to be? I really can't wait until tonight to try this on PS3 but the PC version has a small smell of rope off the Goalkeepers and shooting is like fifa the way the ball just balloons at warp speeds.
Might just be my PC too but I doubt it. So far I'm disappointed because everything else really has turned a corner, I'll do a full review once I play it on other formats.

I would say no on the ps3 version. Scored some nice goals.
First time ive played since pes 2009 , excellent demo, i will be getting the full game this year :)
OMFG!!!!!!!!! it is fucking amazing!
The graphics are top drawer, the Nou Camp looks absolutley spot on the best stadium ive ever seen on a computer game.
The gameplay is good too the best ive seen on PES. Im delighted and ive only played 2 matches against the computer lol
Have to admit it after reading through this thread I'm falling into the trap again of thinking it's going to be great...
You will not be disappointed!!!!
This is easily the best looking football game i've ever seen and the best playing aswell. The previous demos and even games have just felt like the PES from the year before, this one actually feels like a combination of the best of PES and FIFA and a different game, it is a really great game imo

10 games in and I'm struggling to love this game atall. At first I loved it but over time my annoyances are becoming gamebreaking.
- inability to sturn quickly
Countless times I've seen a hole in the defence I can't dribble through or I run out of play because the player doesn't react quick enough
When I'm getting closed down in a tight space its near impossible to turn out of the way and is fucking frustarting. Its the no1 thing is hate about fifa! Thank you 360 dribbling for completely ruining turning for me.
- dribbling
When in full sprint the annimation is bloody ropey. When I'm belting down the wing with ribery and I turn a couple of degrees he stutters and either slows himself down with terrible awkwardness regarding annimation or he carries on but the slight turn looks juddery. Either way completely fucks up my run.
- shooting
I've scored screamers and a few other good goals but the ball physics are fucking brain cripplingly annoying for me. Why the hell does it have to be so floaty. Yeah 20% of the time the ball flies in like a bullet but the rest of the time its like a £1 ball on a windy beach and is so unrealistic I can't bare to think about it. All I can think of is the shooting on pes 6 and how the ball was so realistic and it just pisses me off.
- Refs
A fucking outrage. They never play me advantage and give free kicks when I've barely touch him
- goalkeepers
I don't mind them but there is defo pes 10 annimation oin there and the ball bounces off them like a concrete wall fss.
- inability to beat you man
Its so hard to just run past someone it almost defeats the point of playing football. Dani alves for example has the) slot on fucking lock down and no matter if I stick usain bolt on the left with jet propelled boots he won't get past him.
-getting brushed off the ball
Self explanatory
Just some of the things annoying me.
I'm sure it'l get better. Don't get me wrong, there are some great things in the game but there are things I just hate.
I'm trying to work out the best speed setting:camera angle aswell.
I absolutely hate the slowness atm (its just not pes) so I'm usually going with +2 and normal cam but it could still be better. I just don't know
Well congratulations KONAMI, you have re-invented the game of football just like in the old days. Unfortunantly after 3 years or so of not playing pro evo but just bying it i have lost the touch and mojo to invest in mastering the new pro evo. I will be going for that other konami game that comes out some days later. Still hats off , missions accomplished.

Demo is awesome.
For the last 3 years I've been a FIFA player due to PES being shit.
But PES 2011 is different, this game is a joy to play, excellent graphics, sounds, the passing is sublime, I can defend in a PES game again.
The best description I have for you guys is:
PES 2011 is like PES 5 in HD.

Floaty soft shooting has disappointed me. I could see this from the videos in the last few weeks but now I've played the 360 and PC version my worries are confirmed .
I don't want ping pong arcade game on every shot or pass but I can't stand these ryan giggs half hearted right foot shots. Also it doesn't seem responsive enough in front of goal. I like the feeling of driving a shot low and mix it up a bit, swerving outside of the foot high shots. Not saying I want some fast feel with a lampard type drive everytime.
same old awkward looking direction animations and clunky movement
I'm not normally bothered by sounds and graphics but the sounds and crowd noise are like they'd forgotten the sound, had an hour left to generate some crowd noises, looped them and just stuck em in. When you score I don't sense any uplift or excitement. It really is a dull static atmosphere. The lighting and stadium looks are quite basic too.
I'd love the control and animation of FIFA
the spontaneity and depth of PES and shooting of the old games
pitch/nets layout of PES
high quality sounds and varying crowd noises
and higher dynamic lighting SSAO and some other effects
4 years on this gen I can't see why this hasn't happened
Anyway, I'll mostly likely just boot up PES 1-6 on my PS2 or PC instead of buying this or FIFA.

If im being a blunt i haven't noticed a huge difference in either graphics or sound.
There is however, a huge change in speed, passing, shooting and general game play. It is now impossible to run through a team with Messi or Ribery or anyone, solo goals will now be a rare delight, as they should be.
Team goals, quick sharp passing and a slicing through ball are now the orders of the day for PES. I am made up with the demo and i am looking forward to the full game, don't get me wrong but i can't help but feel PES has lost a little of its individuality with this one.
PES has always been the arcade style Football sim, with fun and enjoyment the main aim. Which is why i have stuck with PES all these years. FIFA has always been very dry, soul-less, consumer driven, churned out each year with a new coat of paint and very little genuine fun in the game, at least for me anyway, there has never been any real satisfaction with any goal scored in FIFA.
This year though, and maybe this is just me, but It seems like Konami were trying to mimic FIFA a little too much this year. I think we've reached the stage where the two games are becoming so close, that in a few years they'll just be the same game, the same product under different titles.
Still though, i enjoy the game, i just hope next year, Konami focus on getting back to the real roots of PES that made it such a winner, and focus less on creating the perfect Football sim.

Agree totally.
I'm very disappointed and won't be buying PES for the first time ever. I've stopped believing in the series now.
I initially thought this game looked and felt very good but yet again, it's crippled by the game engine. Why change the physics of the ball. The shots are ridiculous. Sometimes floating wildly high and wide, other times flying in.
Smoothness of the game and animations have improved. I personally dislike the pace, but I guess it's more 'realistic'. There are positives here - especially in the passing. I do like the freedom but do not for one minute tell me there is 360 degree movement for the players. Player AI is dreadful, which hinders the passing and kinda defeats the whole point of it all.
After about 10 games with a mate, we both got bored and ramped up PES6. By far a better game in terms of fun and challenge. I'm sorry, a next-gen successor should be considerably better than it's predecessor. Gameplay wise, I enjoy it more. Yes it's not more realistic, but it's actually fun to play.
I can't be alone in thinking this is another huge disappointment. I will buy FIFA on the strength of it's demo. It's far fom perfect, but it offers a very decent game and in my opinion better than PES.
I'm raging at how poor this next installment on but I'm hardly surprised. It's the same development team who fail to give the series the overhaul it deserves for the past 4 games. I know this is a PES forum, and I genuinely love the series, always have - but enough is enough for me. I refuse to believe I'm in the minority in this - I NEVER thought the series, especially after PES6, would come to this. It's nowhere near where the game should be now. I remember when every PES came out, I KNEW it was going to be brilliant - and it was. The same just isn't true anymore. I'm still gonna keep playing the demo, but I don't see me enjoying it anytime soon.
Does anyone else feel extremely let down by the demo (and lets be honest, this demo will reflect the final game in the majority)??

Demo is awesome.
For the last 3 years I've been a FIFA player due to PES being shit.
But PES 2011 is different, this game is a joy to play, excellent graphics, sounds, the passing is sublime, I can defend in a PES game again.
The best description I have for you guys is:
PES 2011 is like PES 5 in HD.
What version are you getting Pate? UK, American? I'm leaning towards UK but I'm not sure...

man.. I can't believe the tactics R mapped to select now...
I've played 3 games and found...... yes you guessed it 3 bugs.
1. on free kicks goal keeper sometimes runs through the side netting as if it isn't there and it looks like something outta spiderman.
2. Goalkeepers sometimes run to catch a long ball and land outside the area only to miraculously shoot backwards into the area without a handball being given.
3. When the ball is in the air and you repeatedly hit a button it sometimes stutters like lag, also if you run to intersect the ball and the animation glitches and it runs right passed you it stutters with lag.
Does anyone test these games or are the people making it like a factory doing their tiny bit and just passing it along down the line.
Don't get me wrong there's alot i like about the new demo (not the annoying video at the end of every game, gees just let me hit replay!)
overall, good improvements i like the passing system and the new power bar, I can't shoot for sh*t but it'll fun relearning.

I think this is PES 6 with better graphics tho the much improved passing swung it for me. Yes the shooting is a bit hit and miss usualy ballooning way over tho i have hit a few cracking shot in the top corner and had some good shots from volleys on target. But importantly i get this new feeling with PES 2011 like i got with PES 3 and PES 5 where I have to get used to it. It just feels great when you hit a first time through ball to your striker who clinically strokes the ball home past the on rushing keeper.
Anyway I have made a PES video which shows the highlights of my experiences.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co490ImoVhU
what kinda scares me is the accuracy of the freekicks..I've scored 4 in 5 games, from 20-29 yards

if they give this game last year as pes 2010 and give pes2010 at 2011 as pes 2011 that would be okay. game is worse :(
i hope maybe i get used to 2011

Really ? You can't be serious.:shocking: The defence is as good as PES5 ? In that game you didn't have all this time & space on the ball, so possession was much harder, leading to more scrappy midfield play & less scoring opportunities.

First off: What I'm about to write is NOT to diss the game - it's merely pointing out some things, that I would also like to hear, if anybody feels the same.
Secondly - my background: I'm turning 36 this november, been a member on this site since early 2003 and have been a huge fan of PES since ISS Pro Evo1 on the original PlayStation. I've bought every single game of PES since the above mentioned installment all the way to PES 08 - which is the last PES game I've bought. I bought the FIFA 09 installment and didn't buy any of PES nor FIFA last year. Therefore I can't hardly compare this installment to what has happend since 08 - so I'll just be pointing out my initial thoughts of the game, after playing 5 games last night.
I play on Xbox360.
It's a small background to judge by - therefore this isn't a review or judgement of the game - but solely my very first experience of the game - so use this post as you see fit. :)
Presentation, graphics and animations are great. I like it. Not much to point a finger at there - and as always; these aren't major factors when judeging a PES game - it's what's "under the hood" gameplay-wise that counts.
Gameplay is hugely improved since the '08 installment I played - go figure...
But here are some points I would like to point out, and hear your take on those and if you guys have had the same experience:
1: Passing: Engineered for freedom? I don't see it?! It feels very semi assisted. I haven't had any problem what so ever pinging long string series of fast-paced first-time passes together like in the old days... I've even experienced that a lot of passes is sent an "entirely" wrong way to another player, compared to whom I intended? That's not freedom, now is it? If I sent a pass into clear space - then it feels free.
So what I want to know here is: When you guys are talking about spraying passes all over the place like another Xavi - are you guy's then using the manual pass button (LT)?
2: Goalkeepers: I think that they are greatly improved! Some minor flaws here and there - but nothing serious.
What's serious though is: WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD isn't it still possible to pass the ball to a nearby defender/teammate straight away, when the keeper has the ball??! We're talking 2010-11 now - and the keepers are still holding on to the ball like dear life untill everyone is back at their start position?! Why…?
While writing this, I realise that I haven't tried holding the manual pass button, to see if he'll pass the ball faster that way - has anyone tried that?
3: Stop in play: At every stop in play - and I mean IN EVERY SINGLE STOP IN PLAY - the game throws a replay at you?! I know I'll just press START right off to skip it - but that doesn't stop the screen from loading and making a break in an otherwise flowing game...?! After only 5 games I'm already sick and tired of it...
4: Lag?!?: I've experienced LAG in my demo - and I'm only playing online in single player mode?! Has anybody else experienced that? You know: the ball and players dissapear from the screen in a spilt second, just to reapear 10 meters further ahead quickly after? It's a demo - I know! But am I the only one to have tried this?
5: Defending: Love that it's become more difficult! BUT! I can't seem to make these new moves work. When I try to hold the "press" button and holding the stick towards my own goal (you know - so not to go into a tackle straight away) my player has a go at the attacker anyway?! Which almost always results in a freekick. Annoying since I'm usually a gamer who rarely makes freekicks...
It takes some getting used to - I know - but does anyone have a few tips and tricks or experience in this? I just can't seem to make it work 8 out of 10 times.
6: Atmosphere: I tried the Coppa Libatadores (or what its called) because I read somewhere, that the atmosphere during the match would be quite different than playing with the european teams. Well - not on my demo. Does anybody have a take on that?
So right now I really don't know what to think. I really - REALLY want to love this game - but I'm not quite catching on at the moment.
I tried the FIFA demo for one game only - and I quite like the PES one better, solely because FIFA really didn't felt that much different and felt quite "easy" compared to PES.
I'll give FIFA the credit, that it looks much better to look at during play. The fluid animations and the level of detail in ALL the animations are quite frankly awsome! But as stated above - that doesn't make a good game alone.
So am I alone in these statements or has anyone noticed something similar.
Great gaming everyone!
Formation is like in pes09 or pes10??
Haven't played yet...

OH! And I forgot all about the trigger player run button - or rather lack thereoff! If I have to trigger a player to run forward, I'll have to make a 1-2 pass. Why can't we just use the same button to trigger a player run forward?!
It's quite frustrating, since most of the time, the teammates are rather passive concerning trying running behind the defensive line... And I have tried changeing the formation settings - but it doesn't help much... ;o/
And by the way. Not to promote FIFA or anything - but did anyone else notice, that in FIFA, that if you have the pace/sprint set to one of the triggers, then you can regulate how fast you'll sprint by how deep you hold the sprint-trigger. Interesting - unfortunately, I have the right bumper as my sprint/pace button - so I haven't tried it out, so I don't know how well it works...

Graphics: Excellent BUT virtually all writing and icons in the game plan menus are far too small. Can't read without being a foot from the TV, and are causing me severe eye strain.
Sound: Dunno, it's a demo. Don't really know what we're working with yet.
Commentary: -
Menu: Better than the last few!
Shooting: Ball is too light and bouncy. No impact, hard to control, but not in a good way. The basic feel of shooting is worse compared to last year. The meter feel is totally bizarre, as well, but that's something on can get used to.
Passing: Love the control, but once again, not the feel. Chipped passes in particular are mostly uncontrollable and weighted awkwardly.
Dribbling: I'm not a dribbling-oriented player, so I'm not the best to discuss this, but it definitely feels different. Undecided if it's good or bad yet.
Goalkeepers: Seem ok, like that they're a bit more aggressive and distribute more quickly.
Freekicks: Too floaty. See ball feel. Also, a few too many niggly fouls given, as in Winning Eleven 9. The game needed more after the absurdly lenient 2010, but physical contact alone does not = foul.
Penalties: Haven't taken one yet.
Skills: Would prefer to do them manually for the most part. Granular control is where PES has always and is expected to shine. Presets take away that fine control, which, in the case of something REALLY fancy and impossible to pull off otherwise, would be understandable, but most moves in the game were perfectly manageable without painful oversimplification.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points:
If you can see the pass, you can at least attempt to make it.
Team AI seems more intelligent and realistic.
Chronologically structured situational strategic implementation is a great idea.
Drag and drop is handy.
Bad points:
Ball feel and physics in general. Everything feels like it's floating.
Impact of physical contact doesn't translate, meaning shoulder-to-shoulder challenges and crunching tackles feel pretty much the same as everything else. Need to make use of rumble functions of something to give them a little "oomph". I was excited about the improved contact detection system, and while it does detect it better and provide appropriate animations, it feels insubstantial.
Strategy markers on Select instead of L2 is the dumbest, most mind-bogglingly idiotic and unnecessary control change in history. Seriously, if you use manual offside trap as I do, it's hell on virtual earth.
Aerial 50-50s still don't work right.
Konami still hasn't fixed the backpass rule, either. Opposition midfielder passed it back from nearly the center circle, keeper rushed out and picked it right up, no problem.
Can't scroll through players quickly in game plan to view and compare stats anymore, have to manually select and press triangle to access an incredibly cumbersome stat menu.
No flow to game plan sub-menu order and selection.
-------------------------------------------------
To summarize, in true PES fashion, they've improved the bad from the previous installment significantly, and removed quite a chunk of the good for no apparent reason. That's it for now.

100% agree!!!
@fiorefan
I played the we 11 demo and the pes 11 demo now and I haven't experienced any lag.
Though you made some good points overall.
About the passing, even when using the normal passing, my passes would go in the direction I am pointing. Yes sometimes they go a bit out of place but not nearly as much as in pes 10. I guess this is done to keep the game realistic instead of ping pong. The manual pass in pes 11 works great especially when there's a defender nearby. You can pinpoint a pass.
One thing I found wrong is HOW CAN YOU MAKE A LOFTED PASS IN MANUAL?
I was really good in fifa 10 with manual lofted passes and I want it in pes.
Though even with the normal passing the lofted balls are much, much better than pes 10.

Didn't feel like PES. Don't know if that's a bad thing in the long run, but it just seemed a bit floaty - the shooting, the passing, the movement. Even the bad installments have has a sense of weight to it.
I'm going to play it again right now, as I need to love it because its secondary features are awesome. Itching to build a stadium.

The one thing above everything I just can't live with is the game freezing for 1 second every now and then. Messi sprinting at me defence cutting in from the wing, it freezes, second later a through ball has been played and I'm almost a goal down.
Gamebreaker.
I do feel however it matters what frame of mind you have when playing it. Going into it thinking "this is garbage, everything is shit", isn't going to get you liking the game.
The game has so many good points but the one thing I can't live without is my powerfull shooting and in pes 11 however often it can be great, its just too bad most of the time
Good thread Dundon's mate. Anyway here's my verdict after maybe 10 matches or so. Oh, and I'm basing this on the demo, not the game since I don't have the game of course, this is purely the demo:
Graphics: Very good. It does look similar to PES 2010 from afar, and it seems only 'good' when in-game but I think this is purely because the default camera is a bit further back which means you don't get to see the graphics up close in full motion. It was like previous PES games in that, the closer you took the camera the more obvious just how good the graphics really were. So in the graphics department, there's no major complaints although I have seen the old flaw of limbs going through other player's bodies which isn't particularly great to see - there should be a constant collision detection.
Sound: There's not too much to report here unfortunately. The sound is pretty average again in terms of crowd noise, however I have noticed fairly respectable crowd cheers upon the final whistle so that should be noted. Not that this should be considered good or bad though with our own community members making option files with crowd chants and all sorts thesedays which is simply enough implemented. I've noticed the more old school arcade music is back though which I like, it sort of gets you back into the "PES zone".
Commentary: -
Menu: Completely different and refreshing. Especially the formation and tactics menu, I really do love the new style for that section. The new drag and drop system for editing player's positions is perfect and it's just a lot more pleasing on the eye and clean. There's not much else I can say regarding the menus considering it's just a demo and we don't have too much access to other areas of the game.
Shooting: To be honest, I think people may be overreacting with the shooting system. I've not noticed anything drastically poor about it, and even think it's quite good myself. I still need to play some more matches as I on average may get away 4 shots or so per game (which is a good thing really that chances aren't regular occurances). The ball does seem to go over the bar a bit, but it's not as if it balloons over as some comments have suggested, the majority of efforts I've made have just whistled over the bar or been respectable shots. Sure I've had one or two row z shots but that's genuinely down to me completely mistiming the new power bar (which I think is more difficult to get to grips with than the shooting).
Passing: Brilliant. As everyone has already fixated, the new passing system is by far and away the most enjoyable and noticable improvement in this PES demo. It's actually a joy and pass the ball around, and with it being semi-manual in terms of direction you feel a real sense of responsibility for build-up play as opposed to simply tapping, tapping, tapping the pass button. The new string of animations help the passing look nicer as well, and you do genuinely feel a sense of achievement when you put together some nice football, so hopefully this will encourage some liquid football to be played.
Dribbling: Improved. It's definitely more enjoyable than the previous PES titles I remember. With the new freedom of 360degrees, or close enough anyway, the dribbling is certainly more 'comfortable' and fluid. The feint system implemented is pleasing on the eye too as I've performed quite a few feints to move past opponents and once I get the system down and develop stringing tricks together it's going to be a blast. I think the dribbling "can" be quite easy at times in terms of moving around an opponent but take into consideration I'm playing this demo on "Professional" and not "Top Player" - still though it does seem more of a challenge compared to PES 2010. Combined with a great passing system too, you don't feel as much need to perform Maradona runs every 5 minutes either.
Goalkeepers: Slightly better from what I've seen but as with shooting, I think I need some more games under my belt to give a definite opinion on this demo's goalkeepers. They have dozens of new animations which is always pleasant to see, however they still do seem to suffer from "I might be able to reach the ball but I still won't outstretch my arms as far as they can go" syndrome. From the 15 or so games I've played however I've only really seen 1 goalkeeping error that's ended in a goal - the goalkeeper stretched for it, but didn't seem to stretch as far as he could have done and the ball simply passed him.
Freekicks: They seem similar really, not too much change except as I said above, the new power gauge seems to be a touch more difficult to predict so I currently suck at them. I'm sure it's just a matter of practice, practice and practice just to get the timing down. Nothing majorly positive, or negative to note.
Penalties: Not had one yet. -
Skills: There is a vast array of new feints and tricks which is great to see. We now get to assign the feints to the right stick too, and can also link up several feints and tricks one after the other. I'm pretty shoddy at performing them but from some of the videos Konami shown, if you can perfect them, they really do look incredible when dribbling through a string of bodies - to perform a stepover and back over with a reverse stepover, to a drop of the shoulder and then finally a little dink over the last defender's leg - it's a sight to behold.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points:
- The new passing system is brilliant for the gameplay.
- The new default camera is actually great, and with it being a little further back and pans around, it helps picking out passes too.
- The vast amount of new animations is finally excellent to see as the old ones had been the same for years.
- The gameplay just feels more fluid with fewer noticable flaws on the whole (at least from the demo).
- The menu system is new and refreshing with the formation menu being great and easy to use, as well as the team selection menus looking very pleasing on the eye.
- Defending seems to be bit more solid which is always great.
Bad points:
- Probably one of the biggest negatives this year is the strategy button being relocated to "Back" (or Select on the PS3). It's completely stupid and almost impossible to use comfortably. I really do hope we can customise the controller configuration in the full game.
- Despite a huge amount of new animations, I just wish there was a few more for slide-tackling, and falling. I love a good crunching tackle on the game, as do many I imagine so I was just hoping for a few more differing slides and also falls too (it's not a big bad point is it, just a little niggle).
- The goalkeepers are still hit and miss. They don't appear to be as bad as previous installments, but still seem prone to one or two more flaws than necessary.
- The power gauge bar is pretty difficult to time, especially with long cross field passes. I imagine it just needs practice, but it isn't exactly easy to adapt to at the moment.
- The referee can be a bit quick to his whistle at times, and also pretty poor. I completely mistimed a tackle and chopped someone down from behind, literally 5 yards in front of the ref (I was maybe 2 yards away from the ball) and the ref saw nothing wrong with the tackle. I found it hilarious of course but if it happened to me I'd be fuming. Also little niggly tussles tend to be pulled up sometimes, so basically it would be nice to see the ref let the little 50/50s go.
Overall:
The game feels great from the demo. Which is a good sign as usually Konami release a poor demo and then try to disguise it with the all too common "it's only 60% completed" excuse. Not this year. The gameplay from the demo feels enjoyable, the passing is just lovely and adds a whole new dimension to the game. The menus are refreshing and the new formation screens are great, and easy to use. There are still flaws of course, but they're seemingly minor now. Previous PES flaws were that the gameplay was average, and left the player feeling cheated. That's no longer the case, and the biggest flaw I can pick out at the moment is that while the goalkeepers have made some pretty great saves in this demo, they still tend to look shaky when it comes to the shots seemingly easier to save "some of the time". So all in all, a definite improvement for Konami, and I'm really having fun playing the demo. A thumbs up from me. Finally.
Graphics: Somewhat worse than I expected... it's still the demo and I hope it gets fixed on the release version (RV).
Sound: Definitely improved. All around much more quality sounds. The sounds from the stands seem a little low, but that's probably tweakable in the RV.
Commentary: Not available. In previous PES versions I've played without commentaries, so it's not a factor for me.
Menu: Improved, good looks. Don't like the constant tweaking of the formations menu every new release, though. Still haven't found a stamina indicator in the formation menu.
Shooting: Still haven't got the hang of it. Some shots are way too weak and others are balooned into the stands. I'll comment further after some more playing time.
Passing: One word: FREAKING BRILIANT!!!!
Through balls are a godsend!
Dribbling: Feels more realistic. Most players don't feint to get past others, most of times it's just a combination of quick accelerations combined with change of directions, now the game reflects this.
Goalkeepers: 10000000000000x better than in 2010. Animations are top notch, like never seen before in a PES.
Freekicks: Still haven't got the hang. Seems one of the most rudimentary part of the game.
Penalties: Same as 2010, but a bit more random.... which, IMO, isn't good.
Skills: I don't get the concept of preseting drible moves.... this is supposabily a simulation, these things are supposed to be made on the fly....
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: Passing system is #1a.
The tempo of the game (you can have a lot more control over it, and I'm not talking about messing around with that game setting).
Overall dribling (except the preset moves).
Defending is the most improved aspect of the game (honorable #1b). Central defenders are what they're supposed to be, very good at disarming and using their bodies. Side backs are also much more aware of space in their back.
Bad points: The main nock on the game is definitely AI controled player movement.
With this kind of passing ability, the AI's faults in off the ball movement are way more noticeable. Especially in possession.
They don't come close to offer suppport, don't exploit running lanes all that well and seem a little off the game. As I said, this is much more easy to notice, now that the passing system has evolved so well.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the demo.
Still hope to see some things worked on, but I can say I'll definitely buy it (while hoping that the online mode has improved as greatly as the overall game).
Graphics: better but only slightly. 8/10
Sound: good ingame atmosphere, musics rubbish 7/10
Menu: nice, but writing a little small for me 8/10
Shooting:, firstly you hardly get time to shoot, which is a good thing, for me sometimes my player shot in a different direction to what i was pressing then it was a bit balloonish, i think a little practice will help. 7/10
Passing: best part so far, if theres 2 players in the direction your pressing, you just put a bit more power to pass the the player furthest away which is good, also some crossfield passes look good. 9/10
Dribbling: more consistent, dont like the fact that every player can do tricks though. just wait on the messi fanboys though. 7/10
Goalkeepers: some good animations, look alot better than 2010 which were shocking. 8/10
Freekicks: you get some excellent deliverys from set-plays, shooting is very difficult though, think you'll need to score with the best free kick takers 8/10
Penalties: i always liked the pens from 2010, more skill involved 8/10

Good points:super cup, stadium edit, if the rediculous idea of your scouts doing your transfers in the master league is removed that'll be good, loving the gameplan area, hexagon is back!
Bad points:refs are still rubbish, perfectly good takles punished, too many replays, still invisible wall at throw ins, player name above player,
if i read that online is still a farce, connections, cheats and of course if a filter of some sort hasn't been put in place that stops you playing against barca boys time and time again i wont be buying it, playing the computer becomes very boring, i prefer playing different people with different tactics and team around the world.
if updated teams arent done, (henry still at barca on demo), this happened last year and was unforgivable releasing an umfinished game
ps the fifa demo is very good too
Graphics: Somewhat worse than I expected... it's still the demo and I hope it gets fixed on the release version (RV).
Menu: Improved, good looks. Don't like the constant tweaking of the formations menu every new release, though. Still haven't found a stamina indicator in the formation menu.
Passing: One word: FREAKING BRILIANT!!!!
Through balls are a godsend!
Overall, I'm very pleased with the demo.
Still hope to see some things worked on, but I can say I'll definitely buy it (while hoping that the online mode has improved as greatly as the overall game).
Valid points, and it's nice to see people all coming to similar viewpoints regarding the game. I'm sure Konami will be happy, especially with the poll results as in previous years it's been very negative! It seems we may have finally turned a corner in the PES world.
Oh mate, and as for the stamina bars, it's just like in previous PES games, when you're in the formation menu just tap RB (or R1 on the PS3 I imagine) and it will show the players overall stats and also their stamina and condition arrow too. :) I'll admit to wondering where they were after my first few matches too, then I just pressed a few buttons. I do love the new formation and tactics menu though, it just seems a lot easier to navigate and use.

Ah, thanks mate!
I knew they were there... somewhere!
I'm still exploring all the different combinations on the formation menu... there's still some things I haven't looked at.
I really hope they sort out the long ball. Every time i hit a long ball from one side of the pitch to the other, their opposing full back can usually nip in and break. 2010 was the same and its frustrating. It takes ages to switch play from one side to the other. I know that if you hit balls on the diagonal, they are quicker, but straight across from one side to the other is useless.

Wow!
I love it!
The graphics are an improvement on last year to start of with!
The new passing system is a great addition. Takes a bit of gettin used to but its does lead to some incredible passes that even Paul Scholes would be jealous of!
The computer AI is alot better and its actually quite hard to beat the computer on Top player. Well maybe thats just coz I'm not used to the new gameplay yet. So far I've played 4 games as Barca and have W1 (but that was against my brother) D1 (I should have won! God Damm peanalties.......more on that in a bit) L2. I have managed to score in all games which is a bonus just need to sort myself out at the back!
A few little niggles and they are only little...........
The refs are a bit harsh. There are a few free kicks given for very little contact but I suppose outside of the Prem thats probably true to life.
And.............
The god damm penalties! I still don't like this penalty system that came in last year! They really should more the camera to behind the taker.
But apart from these niggles which I can more than live with it's great. Can't wait for the full version to come out so we can check out BAL and MLO
Well Done Konami!
Man I'm struggling with it!!!!!!!!!!
Getting splattered every time.

Just had a great game on Top Player
I was Barca, 1 down.
Equalised with the last kick of the first half with a cut back to Messi who smashed it in.
Then scored with the last kick of the game. Love that PES feeling!

Brilliant the football game i have waited years for! It fells like real football. In previous years its has been hard work to get your players to react in the way you want - the players actually perform like professional footballers on the pitch, no bunching and 6 players running after the ball, its more organised - i can feel the freedom in this game - thanks konami, can't wait for the full game!
9.5/10 there is always room for improvement though!

Graphics: Very nice, works well in high-res on my "old" notebook graphics card as well (Radeon HD 3670). New animations are pretty nice too even though the fall-on-the-ass animation occurs regardless of if a player is tackled from behind or front-on.
Sound: Demo:ish I hope, because it's pretty bad
Commentary: -
Menu: Sleek menus. Improvement over last year.
Shooting: The ball is much lighter than in PES 2010 whose heavier ball I prefer. But hopefully one gets used to it. The new controls improves the shooting though, it's easier to aim.
Passing: 10/10! The no.1 weak spot of PES 2010 is now almost perfected.
Dribbling: Haven't really figured it out yet.
Goalkeepers: Less dumb than in PES 2010 for sure. Haven't witnessed any extreme 2010-stupidity yet.
Freekicks: Pretty much the same as in PES 2010. Which is ok.
Penalties: Keeps PES 2010's awful system where you're not really sure where the hell you aim. A certain goal opportunity breaks down to a lottery.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: :)
+ Much improved passing/handling of the ball
+ Slow realistic pace
+ Graphics look very nice
+ Refs aren't blind anymore
Bad points: :realmad:
- Computer switches players automatically and there's no way of turning it off....has ruined so many things for me, mostly through unwanted tackles. You could turn this off in PES 2010 and I surely hopes that it's only the demo of PES 2011 that lacks this option.
- Ball sometime behaves like a wad of cotton when you shoot
- Players are generally too sluggish
- Refs are now, as they've regained their eye-sight, over-protective. even fair tackles are called as fouls.
- Replays after every little incident on the pitch ruins the fluid play and drives you mad
- Replays after every little incident on the pitch ruins the fluid play and drives you mad
This is very true!
Replays all the time, the awkwardness of the kickoffs and all the rest make for a less fluid play.

Well regardless of how good the poll is looking for PES this year, players have an issue with the shooting, this seems to stick out as the big problem so far. How the hell can these so called game testers let something like this slide?, I mean you'd think someone in the camp would of had the balls to stand up and say "lads!, you know that new shooting thing you got going?, well you wrecked the game". Lets just hope it's fixed in the full release.
But we know it won't really.

I'm loving the game so far.
The passing even after ten or so games seems to have a learning curve still.
The shooting is very hard to get used to. I think the shot power ratings and technique player a larger role this year. Shooting a ball with Villa with the bar halfway from 25 yds. and doing the same with Messi yield very different results.
Defending is soooo much better as you don't have to instantly challenge the ball handler is just close him down instead.
For those that don't like the AI auto slide tackling go to Manager settings and under 'Auto Trigger' settings theres a option to turn off auto sliding among a few other choices.
I love the game plan screen and being able to change tactics depending on the score, time.
I love how you can put players anywhere you want on the pitch and choose their roles. I do miss the option to have a player have an attack/defensive mindedness. But I think the Manager settings fixes that with the different possession settings (OFF/DEF)
Still haven't scored on a screamer yet, but I've had my share of GOTW type goals. I

Menus do tend to lack options for demos. While goalkeepers are still not 'great', I wouldn't consider them as "retarded as ever" and rate them 2/10 either from the 20+ matches I've played on the demo, as they've only been directly at fault for 2 goals.
EDIT: 3 goals.
EDIT: 4 goals. :faceplm:
I'll let you off with the keeper comments then.
I don't think he was being cynical, I think he was simply trolling. I sense he's a FIFA fanboy who can't be at least a bit objective.
Fun fact - At first I read his nickname as 'tard'. Seems I wasn't far from the truth.

 "Fun fact".
Yeah, I can understand some comments like "graphics could be a bit better", but the new passing system is brilliant.
I'm really starting to enjoy the dribbling a lot more now I've got used to the feint system a bit. I still can't string together feints, but I can pull off some nice little jinks and flicks to get past opponents. I obviously pause the game and look at the replay to view my handywork. Is it just me or do the controls for the replays feel a bit more restricted this year? It doesn't seem like we're able to pan around the ball and move up and down as freely as previous PES titles which is a huge disappointment for me as I'm somewhat of a replay-fiend.
I also noticed the camera controls in replays. YOU CANNOT FREE AIM IT UP AND DOWN LIKE BEFORE. I hope it's because it's a demo. It's a shame really, because free aiming up and down were really great in replays.

I am the only one who hasn't had problems with shooting?!
I've had about 3 floaters out of 60 shots. Every other time the ball has done what i expected.
^I understand them, but I am with you. I can score long rangers and the shots don't float as much. Maybe it's because I played fifa much more last year that i got accustomed to it.
am i the only one who has problems with highlighting players? i mean selecting them? sometimes it highlights a player that is no where near the ball... :(
Thought I would post this in here too.
Just posted this on another site and thought I would share it here:
I was playing a bit more of both demos last night and Fifa was growing on me a bit but then I went back and played PES some more and then something struck me
I was messing around with formations and strategies and the depth of these really struck me. I played 2 games both as Barca vs. Bayern. the first game I went into the simple settings I believe it was and selected offensive (wide) as my option. I don't think I messed with the other settings for how they were going to play like counter for the first 15 minutes etc. but I may have. Using this strategy the game was very wide open and I actually lost 2-0 because Bayren took advantage of the space I was leaving open.
The 2nd game I actually tried defensive wide to see how it would go. It was a much tighter game and Bayern did not press as much and it was more of a midfield battle.
After this experiment my mind started racing There are just so many possibilities with the tactics and and I got me thinking how great it will be during ML for example. Let's say your playing in the CL and it the last group game and you need a draw to advance. Do you go out and play defensive and play for the draw, do you played balanced, do you go for the win etc. etc. etc. You get the idea
To me in Fifa there never is really much need for strategy because the game tends to play the same way.
I have not been a big fan of the last few games but now that they have the game play to go with the depth this game should be amazing when it comes out IMO.

Haven't noticed a problem. What do you have the switching set to?
overall i think the demo is a huge improvement on pes2008 - 2010.
However one of pes' biggest flaws every year has been the summer transfers, I've noticed Barca still have Ibrahimovic, Henry, Hleb and haven't got Adriano or Mascherano. This worries me because when playing online whoever chooses Barcelona will have two of the best front players on the game (Messi and Ibrahimovic) and AC Milan will obviously be without him, and probably without Robinho!

i dont know but its the default setting... :D
i dont know but its the default setting... :D
Then it is assisted. When you go into the demo go to select sides and hit square (ps3) and change it to semi-assisted.
ok 10x.. i hope its better that way...

They can fix that with a patch too I believe. Even for online.:)
I'm enjoying the demo so far. It's taking me a while to get to grips with it, but i'm starting to get good results now.
The passing feels really nice and you have to work hard to create scoring opportunities. The new animations look good, as do the replays. Overall, it's a big improvement over 2010!
The only thing I don't like particularly is the new camera. Sure, it looks a bit more like it does on TV, but I think the old camera's present in every game previous to 2011 work a lot better. It's sometimes hard to judge where the ball is going if its been knocked up into the air in the penalty area. The keepers aren't too good either. They seem to parry everything away.
Also, the pause menu looks horrific. They really couldn't have made it look any worse. This is fairly trivial though, obviously.
Starting to get to grips with this now.
Beat Bayern 5-0 earlier with Barca on top class with a an absolute screamer from Iniesta to cap it off, I also hit the inside of the post with a looping bicycle kick from the edge of the box, so close!
My main gripes are with things that I think will be fixed. Ie, transfers, camera angle (i'm sure there will be an option to revert back) and i'd agree with someone who said the new replay system is far less free, so frustrating when PES openly remove good optiongs from the game (PES6's random players being the prime example)

A little background on myself before I give my impressions. I joined this site about a year ago, right before PES 2010 was released. Last year's game was my first foray into videogame football. I had played both the FIFA and PES demos extensively, and just felt that PES was a more enjoyable game. Football (at least the non-American version) is a relatively new sport to me; only in the last couple of years have I really developed a love for it.
I spent a lot of time on this forum in those early days, and I was one of the few people who vehemently defended PES 2010. Like I said, I was new to footie games, and had never played any of the earlier iterations of PES, so I didn't have much of a reference. Of course, the more I played PES 2010, the more I began to see the flaws that most others were complaining about, but I still got quite a bit of enjoyment out of that game. Eventually though, the frustrating aspects became too much, and after a good 200 hours or so with that game, I finally had to call it quits. Since then, I've spent less time on this forum, but I've still been stopping by from time to time, though I haven't posted anything in quite some time.
This year, I've downloaded both the PES 2011 and FIFA 2011 demos, and over the past few days, I've spent quite a bit of time with each, though much less with FIFA. First, let me say that FIFA does seem to play a bit better than it did last year, but not much. I have managed to enjoy a few matches, but it's still missing that special magic that I look for in any videogame, football or otherwise.
The PES 2011 demo on the other hand, is quite good. Like many have already said, I think the passing is the biggest improvement; and while it takes some getting used to, it does go a long way to helping this game achieve a whole new level of freedom from last year. I haven't even begun to experiment with the manual passing, so I can't comment on that, but the regular passing is brilliant.
Shooting is taking some getting used to, and at first I felt like the physics were off a bit; but the more I play, the less strange it feels. Also, getting off a good shot is very much dependent on positioning and such. From what I can tell so far, the finesse shot is going to be much more important in this year's game.
Graphics are an improvement over last year, though not a huge one. The main difference is, of course, the animations. They are much better this year, I think. Aside from that, the overall look of the game seems a bit crisper, and kits and player likenesses look better. I will say that the graphical improvements in PES are much more noticeable to me than FIFA, which doesn't seem any different.
Finally, after watching a video last night that someone posted of the so-called "cross bug", I had to test it out for myself, and I'm sad to say it does seem to be an issue. Basically, if you run the ball down the wing, the CPU defence will back off as you near the goal line, and you can get a cross in every time (or at least it worked every time I tried it). This doesn't result in a goal every time, but the cross does seem to land right in front of the 6 yard box without fail, and last night I scored several goals using this method. I really hope Konami are aware of this, and have sorted it out in time for the final release.
Aside from that, this game is looking very promising, and I have pre-ordered it with confidence. Only time will tell if most of us will get lasting enjoyment out of it, or if a list of annoyances will hold it back from greatness. But any thoughts I had about giving FIFA a chance this year instead of PES have disappeared.

Ok I've played the game on PC/PS3 and 360 now at this stage and feel I am capable of giving my full verdict on the demo.
Graphics: The best graphics you're likely to see in any football game. Beautiful replays and lighting on all 3 formats but the souped up PC I played it on last night killed the consoles dead in the water.
Sound: Hard to say but the sound in the demo is a monstrosity. No effort at all made to showcase improvements that may of been made in 2011. One plus point is that the thud noise found in 2010 when kicking the ball appears to be gone.
Commentary: There is no commentary.
Menu: New, refreshing and stylish, big fan of the new menu system and a giant move forward in giving the game a new image and face lift.
Shooting: Hmmmm very hard to rate this now as I've had some mixed moments. Regardless to that though there defiantly are some issues with floating balls. It's also hard to tell and read the flight of the ball when shooting from distance and firing in long balls from wide areas. For me they just need to take a small step backwards and fine tune the weight of the ball when it's flying through the air. On the ground there are no issues and it moves around perfectly. People will tell you it's a case of getting used to it but at the end of the day it looks gammy and has some issues.
Passing: Class, I really got a good buzz off the passing, you can sense a good vibe when moving it around the back 4 while you wait for someone to make that run into space. The 1-2 pass works great aswell and will cut any defense open when preformed correctly. Through balls are better than ever but the stand out addition has to be the adjustments they made to the triangle L1 over the top through ball. This is what won me over in the new game and I can only imagine how dangerous it's going to be when the game is mastered.
Also had to mention the improved first time crossing, got some nice goals from them last night as the ball is whipped in at good speeds and angles.
Dribbling: This has changed drastically and for the better too at that, you still have some small issues when turning but I think this is down to getting used to the skill dribble and taking the ball first time correctly. Anyone not used to this might struggle but as you learn the game you find yourself turning on a sixpence. One minor issue I had was the tackling system, It just feels harder to win a clean shoulder charge and can be frustrating when you are so close to the attacker and you know in other versions of the game you'd of took the ball with ease.
Goalkeepers: With these I fear for my life that they will break our hearts again. They're gone weird and tend to flap and parry everything. I also noticed that they tend to be dead in the one on one situation and really can't see how any improvement has been made in any area. You just get the feeling when playing that any shot aimed at goal has a good chance of going in. Just image Almunia as the default keeper for all the teams.
Freekicks:
Scored the first one I ever took, which had me worried but after I didn't score any more and most ballooned over the bar. I think they might be ok but I'd like to see a few more. The goal keepers are terrible on these.
Penalties: I have no idea what the hell this is supposed to be, this could be the most basic and worse penalty system in any game ever. Seriously, the view is appalling. If anyone ever played last years PES on the Wii they would of experienced the greatest peno system ever made, I can't understand for the life of me why they wouldn't of just used this in the new game since it was such a success.
Skills:I love the new skill system, spent a lot of time trying out the new skills from the menu in game. For me PES had stood still with this aspect of the game. The old system was fine upto a certain period but with time it never improved and most years we lost skills. Now there's a complete overhaul that'll keep people busy for hours just trying to get smooth pulling them off in game.
Have to mention a special Ribery goal I scored last night against one of the lads. Started off on the halfway line with Ribery winning a perfectly timed sliding tackle on Xavi at the halfway line. This set him off on a mazey run down the wing where he had 2 players closing in on him from either side as he was cutting into the box. Along with that the defender was coming towards me so he was closed in by 3 players, normally you're goosed but not this time. Bang! rainbow flick over the approaching player making all 3 crash into each other. Ribery take it down on his head Papin style and dinks the keeper from an acute angle like Song last week for Arsenal. Amazing goal.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: Defiantly a giant move forward regardless to how bad other elements of the game are, it's far from fixed and I have plenty of issues with it, but PES is on the road to recovery.
Bad points: The referee is an absolute joke and a wind up, lets just pray to God they fixed this in the full release because as it stands that issue alone could break the title. Having a replay on the back of every petty incident doesn't help the case either. I just want to play ball but instead the whole match is dominated with silly replays that after a few games the novelty wears thin and it just becomes a nuisance.

It needs to be harder, because I'm going to get better. If I'm drawing against Barca after 4 games, I would be destroying them after 20 or so.

Sure it will go up when people get there hands on the full game! Editing, master league, online, stadium editing... it's got so much more to give so let's wait until the 8th October! or if you order off Zavvi or The Hut you might even get it on the 6th or 7th :)

Having played the demo half a dozen times, here is my insight.
Graphics: Better, especially the animations, they seem a lot less robotic and, well, PES-like I guess.
Sound: Yes! The thud has gone. I could hear a lot of shouting from the players too, making you feel you were 'in amongst it'.
Commentary: None, so an improvement over Mark Lawrenson already.
Menu: Looks sharper but more arcade-like. Couldn't care less though personally.
Shooting: I've been hearing a lot of complaining about shooting but it's been fine for me, but saying that, I try to play the game realistically so I don't try shots from the halfway line with my back to goal etc. The ball does seem a bit floaty though, which is a shame as it's been a PES hallmark smacking them in with power from range.
Passing: Brilliant, one of my biggest gripes from 2010 was the poor passing, it seems fixed now and I'm happier with it on this version.
Dribbling: Also really good, I think a lot of people are getting their knickers in a twist about not being about the 'power down the line' at full speed from one end of the pitch to the other but that isn't realistic, is it? The fact is IRL, more often than not, if the defender is in front of you, you need to play a one-two or knock it past him and beat him for speed AND strength. I feel this is mirrored well in 2011. It's been broken since PES6 imo and now seems a lot better.
In ML, for example, you should be able to build a good side without all your players having to be speed demons which became stupid as, in past versions, I'd always overlook a player like Xavi, because of his lack of pace, whereas a player like Gerrard could dribble the ball, rather than pass it, into a better area.
Goalkeepers: Better but still a bit off from what I've seen, a definite improvement though as they don't seem to shovel shots that come straight at them into the net/straight back to the opposition.
Freekicks: About the same so far.
Penalties: I only got the odd one in 2010 and was so scared of missing them, I'd just shoot without any direction. Got one in my first game on the demo and smashed it over. Not a fan of the new camera angle/system.
Skills: Don't really bother with them so can't say.
-------------------------------------------------
Good points: Plays more like a real football game. I love the Referee, he is back having taken a holiday since PES5. I've played a few games on the demo and I can't go back to 2010 now, that says a lot.
Bad points: Floaty ball could become annoying. The replay after every blinking foul is non-sensical and the continued absence (for the most part) of the quick free-kick is worrying. Hopefully, there will be an option to turn the replays off or maybe they are in the demo to showcase the new ref system?
