Seriously, the game has big potential , animations are great , the general idea of the game is great , graphics are great... but there are some huge things that are holding it back...

1. I dont know why but the passes don't really feel like they go exactly where I want them in a complete 360 degres , but ok... minor issue its much better than before

2.My biggest issue probably is shooting, its just retarded , the ball travels VERY WEIRD , and light , you can't even shot ground balls how? you hold for 1ms and it still shots a high ball just with no power at all so its almost like a lob, the shooting is WAY worse than last year.

3. Dribbling is much better and you really have much more control over it now as you can map exactly what moves u want together, however I didn't notice that you can save those presets to one of your players correct me if im wrong , but thats pretty stupid.. Would be much better if you could save them to your players so every player would have different moves , that would be perfect.

4. Refs are retarded , they whistle fouls when you barely touch players , what kind of soccer is that seriously

5. I feel like speed/physicality should be more realistic , now I get why KONAMI would want to make cpu players speedy , to fix the problem where u could just run all over the defence and thats good, but they did it wrong , I mean usually side backs are fast players , CB's are not hence they mostly use their phisicality to stop players... but not here , I mean I was playing as Barca and Bayern did a great trough pass to ribery who was at this point in full sprint and 5m before my defenders and Pique who is supposed to be slow catched him , thats just stupid.

If KONAMI manages to fix all of these problems this game has ALOT of potential , hell its even much better than last year now , tho the shooting is really holding it back alot.

After playing it more, I do agree the shooting is "different". I'm still undecided at the moment, as I've had some very good efforts and even very realistic shots, but it is a bit unpredictable. I did score a lovely slotted goal just from inside the box into the corner which was nice.

The passing system is great in my opinion. It may just be a case of you needing to adapt a bit more, thankfully I played on manual and semi-manual for several months with PES 2010 and FIFA 10 so I'm almost used to the control of it in a way. It's definitely a major step up and feels great in my opinion.

I agree somewhat on the referee point though, I mentioned it in the First Impressions thread too. They should be letting some of the minor niggles go, especially as some aren't even fouls in my opinion as I've witnessed several times the player winning the ball perfectly fine with minimal contact only for a foul to be blown. It's obviously not a major flaw, but it would be nice to have it ironed out.

As for the speed and physicality, maybe try altering the game speed in the pause menu. Knocking the speed down a notch may just feel better, I'm really not sure but it's worth a try if you haven't already I guess.

Glad you think PES 2011 is an improvement though, for the first time in years, I genuinely feel there's a big difference, for the better too. :)

That, in about 20 matches, has never happened to me.

Or they disarm you from behind when they're on your neck and you just received the through ball or they don't catch up.

the game is leaps and bounds above 2010, I played the demo last night for hours and after a while you get used to the passing and shooting and its great. I scored some nice scramers with Ibra and Villa.

I agree with part of your statement, the game does have great potential, I think Konami found a formula for next gen that they could build from and improve on. If they keep this passing and gameplay and improve on it yaer to year we could have the perfect game eventually. With that said, PES2011 is going to be great, can't wait to get my hands on the full game and go online and play some peeps!

Yeah it has issues but the game overall is much better than pes10.
As for hard low shots.
I scored one with Robben in the morning today. You have to be in the right position and you have to make sure you "shake off the defender" first. Then you press the sprint button, and then lightly press the square button with very precise analogue movement and you're in. That's how I scored mine.
I did the same thing yesterday with van bommel.
So I guess practice makes perfect.
Though I agree that at times the ball is unpredictable (it can be agood thing though as in reality you're never 100% sure) and the physics are a bit off sometimes. But overall it's great. Well so far.
I hope that we can buy the 6th difficulty though.

This was the first thing that struck me as I played the demo. The way you control the weight and direction of passes is lovely. You can't just point and press like you've always been able to in just about every football game, not just PES. Picking out the perfect through pass feels so good now.

the passing is amazing, the best of any sports game to date IMO. The way they set up the passing it really makes the through pass obsolite though, you could just direction the pass to the player you want, over shoot him and thats your through pass. You guys see it this way also?

One thing bugs me a bit.

It feels at the moment that there are even too much ways to pick up a pass I wantedto make, and I was easily able to pick up good passes, by pressing through pass, normal pass, or manual pass.

I gotta admit I like it a lot and have been waiting for such upgrade, but it seems almost too easy to handle at times.. hopefully CO keeps up the challenge!

And the use for MANUAL pass is a bit trivial (L2, pass).. was seriously trying to pick different passes than with just normal pass, and there's not MUCH difference.. not bad though! I'm missing still though a possibility to pass the ball as TOO SHORT for player, so a player must come for the ball. Now even a very short pass seems to go straight to player..
Small things but still would be nice to see one day :)

Also I felt that there was more mass on player in Pes2010, the guys moved more sluggish heavy way which was good imo. Also, as many times stated, the ball seems like quite a balloon.. but this is a bit how balls tend to be nowadays I think?

Conclusion:
As a master league player playing with my friend, I'm really waiting for the release and surely I'm going to buy it. But then we'll see does it really top Pes2010, which was really great when got hang of the guys weighing tons in my opinion.

And no matter how the new PES turns out I'm sure we'll play it like hell still! I hope though that the Comp gives a challenge, now with the new passing system, with a friend in same side, beautiful things are sure going to happen a lot! :) (goals I mean)

After reading everybody's opinions i was really worried about shooting.

This was my first goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGZCjJ7xHQ8

Shootings been excellent for me, better than last year.

I put a 1 on 1 over the bar and i thought what the hell but when i saw the replay it made sense because of how the player struck the ball

the stamina bar on top of the players, I notice it turns red when you over use them and run too much but eventually it goes back to green. Does this happen when you dont use the players turbo as much and he "rests" and gains his strenght back? I noticed that when its red they are slower and also become inaccurate with their passes and shots.

I believe so yes. It was something that was in the Wii version of the game and I think it is in this version now too.

After a few more matches im convinced that the refs are the most horrible part about the game so far , seriously they whistle fouls when the player barely touches someone but when it comes to opposing players hacking me down whenever I get a good opening for a shot they never show yellow cards , freaking annoying.

One interesting note on this. I tried the WE demo on the PS3 and I swear they hardly called anything but need to play it more. Hopefully retail will have it balanced.

I really like this game ive always been a FIFA fan but this year I appreciate the realism on PES.. But if Konami listened to the things u said I am quite sure that it will beat FIFA this year!

The 360 passing seems lyk it just has to be added I also want a bit better animations it's still a lil robotic but better than last year.

I am playing both pes and fifa demos and I find them different. Pes doesn't feel like fifa. It feels alot different in passing especially.
I need more time with fifa though (been playing pes alot more because I think it's addictive). In my opinion, where pes succeeds, fifa fails and vice versa. So I think FINALLY we'll have 2 football games. I hope it stays like this.
BTW the shooting is not bad at all. I am really shooting well now. It seems that this year, shooting is less assisted and you need to point the analogue better. Though I am still not 100% sure about this.
BTW the feints are pretty decent in pes 11 especially with the combination of right and left sticks.
I know this was in fifa, but who cares. Both copy each other.

two combined things that ruin the game for me. The refs blowing for everything and never allwoing advantage (plus out of about 10 games i have seen 1 qucik freekick.) combine this with every single foul getting a replay and your forever pressingt the skip button. Why didnt they leave it so that you only get a replay if you get booked or red carded! I dont wanna see a replay of a non foul where two players have breathed on each other.

The passing and dribbling is 100Xs better. Not keen on crossing or shooting though. I had a corner with Munich and they had 2 people in the box and that was it. 0-0 at about 20mins it was stupid. And my players never seem to take a risk and attack the box when im in a crossing position.

Did you mess with the tactics at all? If not, take a look at Munich's and change them. they have a lot of def. possession settings when the game is level.

Based on my demo experience, I am overall content with the game, but there is one thing I can't get for christ's sake:

Penalties.

I dunno if it's some kind of weird joke or if the programmers were on coke for this part of the game, but I have not been able to score a goal from any of my penatly attempts so far. Hell, I wasn't even able to release a decent shot. Two went straight in the middle of the goal and the third one went only 'a bit' (read 5 meters +) away.

Computer, of course, has no problem with penalties so basically, if you play a tied game and know that penalties will follow, you can consider your game a loss.
People seem to dislike the penalties in the previous PES games as well, but when I compare the current penalties and the previous, I'm starting to love the older ones.

I dunno if it's just me and the penalties are the same as they were in the older games, but I personally take them as the most screwed matter in an otherwise good game.

As for refs - yes, they're freaking sensitive. If Konami ever makes a basketball game, they can use the refs from PES 2011 there.

caledonia84
16-09-2010, 21:40
The refs are definately a problem, all you would need to sort this would be the option to control how severe fouls were punished, I doubt we'll see one though.

And my players never seem to take a risk and attack the box when im in a crossing position.

Most of the goals I score are headers, I always try and cross the ball early round the last man and Klose is usally there to meet it full force. Haven't had the same success with Barca however, maybe its a team/stratedgy thing.

I've also found centre backs coming up for corners which is encouraging this rarely happened in 2010.

Is there a way we could give feedback to KONAMI (in an official way) so that some of these issues (like refs) can be fixed via a patch or something?

Well the last game where they actually called some fouls was PES5, so it sounds like a good thing to me. Not enough foul calls lead to a arcady game that favors the ball runners. Somtimes you need to take that foul to slow things down. In previous installments, this was non-existing.

Bite.Me

One thing I don't like so far is the tendency to do bycicle kicks... from my players and the PC ones.

In every game I see like 2 or 3.... that's way too much.

Played a few more games yesterday and already likeing it better. I'm not "sold" yet but it's deff. better.

Still - though - I don't get the whole Engineered for Freedom-thing?! Passing is greatly improved - that much I'll admit. But the passes still seems (sometimes) a little too much semi-assisted. Quite a few times I still have passes end up at a player to whom I'm not pointing - and this I know because of this scenario:

I'm in the absolute middle of the pitch, dribbleing with Xavi from left to right. So imagine that Xavi is now standing at the exact spot from where you kick off. I have Villa about "1 o'clock" on the right side of the middleline and I have my leftback at about "11 o'clock" on the left side of the middleline. I turn Xavi and hold the direction a bit to the right ahead off Villa (approx. 13 min. past 12 on a watch) and my pass still ends up at my leftback, who is still standing at about 11 o'clock on the left side..??!
(Bit hard to explain - but I hope you guys get the point).

Are you guys using the manual pass button all the time or what am I doing "wrong", since I obviously have a problem with the freedom of passing?

Also still having the problem with keepers not being willing to pass the ball straight away when caught. This ruins any chance of a quick break-away… I've now tried the tactic with pressing RB (I'm on Xbox360) so the keeper will drop the ball - but that seems almost slower than just keep bashing the short pass-button...

And lastly: Triggering player runs... Does anyone think, that in the final version, some kind of tactical option (besides the "few" we've got now) will be available? The old defensive/offensive settings or something like that?

Pride4u
17-09-2010, 14:25
Is there anyone else to think that the defense in the new PES is somewhat screwed? It has happened to me many times that players simply let the ball pass them without trying to catch it.

It's just very frustrating that most of the time I cannot stop any enemy attack because I'd have to commit a foul. (be it a slide or just too much body involved)

Playing on regular difficulty, btw.

---

A bonus question aside for KONAMI:

How the hell am I supposed to score a goal when 50% of shots are off the goal, and from those that actually go towards the goal, like 3/4 go right into the GK's hands or are so slow that even my grandma would catch them?

shaun7
17-09-2010, 17:47
"FIOREFAN. The normal passes are semi assisted not manual so obviously some assisting needs to take place. However the l2 button is manual and it will go where you want. But that's a bit hard to play with it all the time since pure manual is not easy. But the semi assisted passing still works great and it is freedom as you can still place the ball anywhere you want with only minimum assistance.

And lastly: Triggering player runs... Does anyone think, that in the final version, some kind of tactical option (besides the "few" we've got now) will be available? The old defensive/offensive settings or something like that?
Well trigger runs are much better than pes 10, but there's room for improvement. Maybe a trigger run button like fifa? Or some kind of tactic from the formation would be great.

The PES11 demo is utter gash. It really is.

Players feel like they are struggling to get speed up, every single one of them. The passing is horrendous. Seriously, on the PS2 I could not get enough of PES, I loved the game and loathed Fifa. Now, it is the other way round, PES is now gone, for good. Konami have fucked up too many times.
