Isn't it time we make one of these for the latest installment as well?

Everyone knows how these kinds of threads work, let's share our BAL stories with one another.

Anyway, I started my 2011 BAL experience by creating a striker, because judging from the DEMO and various videos, the attacking game seems much more about taking good runs behind the defensive line now, which I like.

No scout matches anymore people! Instead, you instantly sign for ONE team in each of the SIX possible leagues, on a 2 year contract with a fixed salary at 50 000 Euro's. I chose to sign for Valenciennes, the french team available because I chose to be a french striker. Woo me!

First match was a training match - and you have these training matches every now and then in-between your actual matches (which makes sense in the off-season, but not in the middle of an actual season) and I did fairly well, in my opinion. It's all about getting used to the game right now (the captain even told me after the game "Don't worry about mistakes and such now, we're still in the getting-to-know-you stage" - nice little after-game addition there).

There's a new feature in where the manager rates you and your competitors together, and whoever has the highest rating, is the one who gets to start (as far as I've noticed) unless you're tired at which you might even be RESTED (cool huh?).

Your agent - yes, you have one and it's that you spend your money on - tells you of certain important things such as interest, if you're getting rested or benched and stat gains.

Right now, I have played a little more than a quarter of the season and we're doing fairly well. A few numbers;

Beat Bordeaux in the very first game - 2-1
Lost to Lyon a couple of games after - 1-2
Beat Nice and scored four goals - 4-0

We're currently in tenth, which I guess is acceptable.

All in all, I'm liking this years BAL. Aside from the game being much better than last year, BAL has a ton of new nice features. Looking forward to get better eventually - because the stats increase really slowly, as opposed to superfast in 2010.

One little thing is that it might even be a little TOO hard to get past defenders sometimes.

As soon as I have the ball, I usually have less than a second before the ball is pretty much out of my control. The AI defenders press hard and they're quick.

It can be a little counter-productive when you're in a team that plays a single striker up top and a counter-based football.

EDIT: Oh goodie, my team captain (our goalkeeper) just told me that I've become a very important player for the team and that the teammates will look to play the ball to me more often.

Awesome.

So with the League Edit is it possible to mix up the leagues for BaL as well as ML? I normally have the most prestigious teams together in my D1 line-up, so I wouldn't mind doing the same with BaL.

Although it was cool, I don't think you should judge it like that. It's better if you play it first and then see if with all the new improvements, the scout match was necessary or not.:)

^i know its a big improvement from last years bal :), but having to feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction after making it to a club and making it to the first team, is one thing that fifa lacks a lot. and thats what makes become a legend much better than fifas be a pro : Realism. The scout match and training should return.:D

Meh, the scout match and training matches were gimmicks.

Unless you played so poorly that you wouldn't be accepted to a charity game for handicapped children, you never got relegated to the reserve team and the whole training match thing quickly dissapeared from everyone's mind.

I got relegated back to it once, and that was because I got a 6.0 in my first sub-in and a red-card fueled 5.0 in my second.

I like the extra content shop for PES 2011. You can just use an unlocker to give you max GP and then you have so many fancy features! And you can finally play as defender, which is quite nice, but most likely boring. I'm gonna play a season as real-life defender (you can buy that feature too).

Well, it isn't required to buy them. You can just use the function in the unlocker to give you max GP (~16 mil.) and then you can buy what you want to buy.

Anyways, I'm playing as CF named Lucas Schneider from Germany. Playing in Primera Division team Getafe C.F (using PESPatches 0.1 patch), recently started so nothing special happend. I'm playing on Amateur difficulty thought, because it's just unfair how all defenders gang up on you. You literally can't make a breakthrought (unless you get forward pass which is too inacurrate most of the time) as all of them will be stopped by the defenders.

Personally, I've been messing about with the difficulties and I've come to the conclusion that Regular is just hard enough to be relatively realistic, whilst still forgiving enough to stay fun (Top Player is the prestigious difficulty but it quickly becomes much less fun).

And honestly, you just gotta choose your moments mate. I've scored quite a few goals, as a 64 rated CF with the Goalscorer option (high shooting stats, slow speed). Most are scored through well taken runs.

Though I'd say I score, or even get a chance to score, on one of four runs. Which sounds pretty realistic in my head.

I've sworn more times to the game than I did during PES 2010 but it's not so much that it becomes the worst game ever - if I play well and make good runs I still have a chance to win games. But if I don't, there's a good chance I'll lose.

Just the balance I like :)

EDIT: Just had a perfect example - we (Valenciennes) were playing really poorly agains't Sochueax, they had 60% of the possession and we were throwing away passes all the time. To top it off, they score right before the half-time whistle.

However, in the second half, our manager tells us to go for the quick counter and to pressure them up front. He slots in another striker next to me and by the 75th minute, the score is 2-1 after two quick-fire goals (one of which was mine, I bagged a return that ended up at my feet)

I'm loving it, the play is so dynamic.

BAL this year is definitely an improvement over the previous installments, but I can't help but feel how... weak? the PES Konami team feel overall. I don't know what it is, maybe it's the lack of additional content each year, lack of realism outside of gameplay (match schedules, spending money, shoe ratings wtf, etc), but it just feels like everything is just a little too oversimplified, and I can't wonder why Konami, being the great video game company they are, can't get themselves to truly improve the game. I said this before but they can improve 10000x just by playing one season of Football Manager, it's kinda sad the state they're in.

But BAL is still fun, and the AI is far better, more than 2009 and 2010 combined. I think I'll actually enjoy BAL this time. Just kinda wish the coach had voiceover acting and the english grammar for the subtitles were actually correct. "This is just a get to know you game"? What about "get-to-know-you"????? abs pathetic for this day and age but meeeeeh

...the metal gear solid team should take over for 1 year :( heh

Hmm...

I've finished my first season and the impressions I get are mixed.

The game is better this year, no doubt.

But the AI is still shit.

Polished shit, it LOOKS like your teammates are playing smarter than before. But truth to be told, they're still pants-on-head retarded. The teammate AI programming is, sadly, not yet good enough to warrant a high grade from me.

They're constantly doing the same moves over and over, and said moves rarely work. Wingers often move out on the wings and try to either pass the ball in along the floor, which results in it landing at any random defenders feet, or they will try to cross it and always overshoot it which results in it landing any random defenders head.

There's also far, far too much difference between your teammates and the opposing players in terms of how they behave.

Please Konami, just equalise the behavioral AI for both sides. Please.

Well, it IS still better than last year but the risk is that it is easier to get bored with BAL this year.

So far so good, I just created a winger with 90 agility, I signed with Sochaux monbland of ligue 1. Teh gameplay is miles better whic is what I care about making runs inthe box and ta AI actual serve you the passes feels incredibly satisfying. I will play some more to find out more about the mode.

Can any of you guys with the game answer a BAL question for me? Is it possible to sign with a club in the Other leagues Europe instead of being forced to select from one of the leagues in game?

Ligue 1
Eredivisie
Premiere League
Serie A
Primera Division
Other teams <-------- This one.

This wasn't available in '10 but was in '09 and was the main reason why I sold the game after about one month.

Thanks in advance :)

I've made it into my second season as a striker. I signed on for a Dutch team (Heracles). They were also playing in Europa League. They were in the same group as Liverpool. We actually managed to win our group, but lost to a French team in the first knockout round. We finished 5th in my first season. When the transfer window opened I managed to get a contract offer from A.C. Milan, but I turned them down, since I only had a 10% chance of playing.

Bolton made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They were the perfect team. They played offensive possession football and used a 4-4-2 formation. After a few matches (where we managed to beat Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea) the manager changed the formation to a 4-3-2-1 :crymore: Has anyone experienced that the manager suddenly changes the formation?

I surely hopes someone will buy me in January, because otherwise I have to be at Bolton for a whole season before I can leave them. I can't afford a better agent until after the transfer windows has closed :(

The "other teams" have no league system and if you'd sign for them, you'd end up playing like 5-6 games a season.

No, you can't sign for those teams. You can put a team from that category into an existing league if you really want the chance to play for them though.

AI hasn't gotten smarter, it just gangs up on you more so they can tackle you and prevent you from breaking throught.

Anyways, I am not sure if this is going to be only for the first few seasons or something like that, but why in the heavens is the growth of my abilities so slow? Jeez.. in PES 2010 I could literally get 20% progression from one match if I did really, really, really, really, really good, but now the progression just stays at like 2%-5% each game.

Anyone knows whether u can get Starcards this time?(except the one(s) from the start) Learn them from time to time maybe?

Other than that, the BAL is far better than before, except the AI. My playmates are often dumb as hell, especially when they clear the ball to corner, although there is enough space.
The startegyexplanation and the short messages from the captain are always the same and useless in my opinion.
But well, great game ;)

You can train them. Takes a number of weeks, depending on how many points you put into it.

It's in the Personal Data (or something) > Training menu.

I trained PK Taker right away, since trying to take PKs without the Skill Card is hard as hell.

Could someone please explain to me how finances work? My gross assets are €24.900 and my salary is €5.300. My expenses are €1.700 (taxes etc.) + €1.300 (living expenses etc.) + €200 (agent's salary) = 3.200. Shouldn't my net assets be €24.900 + (€5.300 - €3.200) = €27.000?
Why are my net assets only €26.800? Where did the last €200 go?

Edit: In the next month I earned €2.000 after expenses, while I earned €1.900 in the month I talked about above. It seems like there are some hidden expenses.

Hello

Regarding the individual awards, can anyone tell if we get to know, at the end of the season :

* the player of the year
* the best XI of the league/cup/worldcup

I found very frustrating not to know who's the player of the year (when it's not you of course), and also when named in the best XI, not knowing who are the others 10 players.

Thanks

It doesnt matter the opportunity percentage...believe me

I started as EDUARDO...second striker from ghana...started my carrer with 70 overall, with 86 dribbling speed and accuracy (i liked that a lot)

offered a contract from s.s. lazio and i accepted because other teams were just shit

played 22 matches with lazio...3 goals and 2 assists...also with ghana played 3 friendlies where i just made 1 assist...and i was surprised that at the end of the season i got a contract offer from manchester united!

i accepted because lazio at that time ended the season at 15th place...and manchester united ended 2nd in premier league...so i accepted...but they just gonna give me a 10% opportunities...

anyway i went there...took number 10 because rooney left the team...i was pissed by that...

i played the 3 starting matches as a substitute...but got 7.0 in all 3 matches...so when i thought im gonna go as a substitute in 4th match...they got me in the starting 11...im so happy...

right now im 74 overall...gonna take some photos of the stats for you guys to see them

if a good team offers you a contract...and u wanna go there...just go...dont pay attention to opportunities...if u play well ure gonna be in the starting 11 soon...so dont worry bout that:ok:

For some reason the manager decided to bench me in my second season for Bolton. I have no idea why. Perhaps he wanted to sell me. In my first season for Bolton I played every match (except for bans, there were quite a few:D and injuries). I got an offer from Man City and they wanted to pay me twice as much as Bolton was paying me. I decided to go with Man City. If I'm gonna be benched, I might as well get paid well for it  and I was still angry at the manager for changing the formation. I liked 4-4-2 that gave me some support. I'm doing quite well playing for City. I've become the go to guy for goals. 8 goals in 8 matches so far and only 3 yellow cards so far. I'll try hard not to get 12 yellow cards, which gives you an automatic 3 match ban.

I started one yesterday, and have had mixed feelings with it. Mainly because the AI is freakin' retarded. I almost barfed when I was watching Becks run straight at the opposition and continuously lose the ball. It is bad, real bad. BAP Seasons was much better when it came to the AI. Unfortunately, it was only for 4 seasons and nothing more. BAP Career has been a letdown for me.

I just hope BAL is better. But seeing how atrocious the AI is in FIFA in BAP, I don't think it should take much.

You should see the passing then. It's just as bad. I'm usually running down the middle of the pitch and then ask the AI to pass the ball to me. They usually will, but 25% of the time, they end up passing the ball out to the side of the pitch :brickwall: I'm running down the middle, so why oh why do you think I want the ball on the edge of the pitch. :realmad:

My qiuck summary of BAL would be , plain and simple far far too easy.
Played games 8 games scored 6 goals 3 in champions league and 1 in training match and the other 2 in the league ,this is on top player as well ,playing in dmf.
My player feels like a world beater already. Chose Stuttgart as first club, top of the league and in the champions league, im glad now the ai is a bit more intelligent and can spot the trough balls better, but what still annoys me is when the forward players get the ball 99% of the time they run forward on there own , even if they got loads of players to beat .

I chose attacking midfielder with the dribbling stats . But been playing dmf most and amf some times.
It was difficult to do good last year (2010) early on but now ,way too easy.

How are the starting stats chosen? Randomly? Do you have any influence in the distribution of your stats?

You get to pick what type of player you want.
Like for example - Dribbler - finisher - powerful player - creater - all rounder like that , thats not all of them though.
That determines your'e stats and cards , then you choose where to improve in training.

Could be because you're playing on regular. Your teamates were that way anyways in 2009 and 2010. They were pretty stupid on top player but still miles better than the completely brain dead teamates on professional setting. Try a few matches on top player and see if things improve.

Purchased the game today. Spent the first hour just messing around the different edit modes etc.

Then I started up the BAL mode(top player). At first glance it looks much more polished and smooth than last year. And I love how you have influence of your starting stats. I played around with that for a bit, and ended up with my danish AMF. 64 overall stat, and in the mid 80s with dribbling and about 80 passing, Dribbling, passing, agility and technic are my only yellow stats from the get go.

I signed with Real Zaragoza from a list of 5-6 teams, where Zaragoza was the only team who played with a real AMF role. I'm still doing training matches and getting used to everything. But have had some decent games so far.

The increase in stats from the start this year compared to the previous installments has surely made the BAL mode much more enjoyable for the first season. The previous years I would skip all the games for the first 2-3 seasons until I had decent stats in order to actually be able to make an impact on the games.

EDIT: Just played my first league match, and suffered an injury 15 mins into the game. Will be interesting to see how long it will last.

One thing I hated about the previous BAL's was that regardless of the position you were playing, your team wouldn't score any goals unless you did it yourself. It sucked to play as a DMF and also be responsible for scoring every goal. Has this changed?

I'm playing as a CF, so I can't say if it's different for a DMF. But in my game my team plays great, scores plenty of goals for a few months. Then they become bad, really bad. I wouldn't mind being responsible for scoring the goals, if only I could get some support, but no. I've noticed that the clubs I play for suddenly change their formation to a variant of 4-5-1. In the first 2 months Man City played 4-4-2, but then they suddenly changed the formation to 4-5-1 and that's when the other players started to become really poor.

Guys when you're on defence, make sure to press square to make the CPU close down on opponents. The AI has vastly improved in this department and will make your defence impenetrable! I'm playing with Bolton and the difference between pressing square and leaving them alone is night and day.

This thread needs a bump.

I just started my BAL season as a CF playing for Getafe (Europe League and 87% playing opportunity). I only played a few matches so far; scored a few times.

I started out with a 74 overall rating. I wanted to know what you guys got when you started?

Also, CFs/SSs, how are you allocating your focus points?

i started with a 72 rating as a CF.

for whoever mentioned the formation changing, i have experienced it in both teams i've played for so far, bolton and tott. in tott's case, it was a perfect 4 4 2 with defoe up front, or sometimes crouch or keane, but right before a transfer window closed, the team brought in iaquinta and started playing him on the side. the formation then changed to a 4 5 1 with 2 dmf, 2 sides, and 1 amf, and all of a sudden i'm alone up front. sometimes the "manager" plays keane or another CF in the amf position, and one of the dmf's is absolutely shite. it sucks balls right now but i still score occasionally cuz my shooting stats are like all in the 90s despite being 18.

fortunately, i'm also on the spain team and they play a brilliant 4 4 2 that sometimes flows very well. so that eases the pain. sometimes though i just drop my controller in awe at how terrible the AI is. at least it's somewhat playable now.

63 overall starting :(

My shooting stats were in the 80's and most of everything else was in the 60's. Man, some of you had insane starting stats, I'm jealous.

I chose to allocate a full six points into Stamina until I had 80 Stam. The other points were balanced out over Shooting, Power and Speed.

Amazing starting stats right there.

Anyway, I share your sentiments. I can sometimes curse loudly at the screen because the AI is dumb as shite.

But I'm still standing firm on believing that the game is better than last year.

God, I hope so! I was a DMF last year, and by the age of the 26, was the game's all-time Goal and Assist Leader, but not by choice! I've been planning on starting out as a CB this year, so life will be rough if it's still like it used to be. 8^|

I'm absolutely loving bal for a major change its a step in the right direction its more indepth not much but a lot more than previous I can now choose the type of mould of player I want to be now that for me is the absolute icing I am in real life a utility player I play defense midfield and ss I'm short but really strong something like gattuso and tevez mixed in one on the other pes games I could never resemble this but now success I'm loving it yeah it could be better. But hey after owning fifa for week before pes this is seriously a millions times better and imwith newcastle and on top player as a side midfielder and I can say that ai is much more intelligent not perfecctbut a lot more better that's my view on it so far

Started a new BAL today as a CF on Top player. Signed for Lazio who were in Europa League. Have been gettin a few games mainly as a sub. Lazio have played about 10 games so far (not including friendlies) and I managed to get my first and only goal (so far) against Juventus. Came on a sub when 1-0 down and scored after running on to a lovely through ball to slot past Buffon!

I really like the improvements from last year as this is a mode I really enjoy and get in to. The managers instructions are a feature that I think is needed as it gives you an understanding of what is expected of you. Also I think you overall play helps towards you rating instead of last year where it was just about scoring goals or getting assists. On two occasions I have been praised for my contribution towards goals in one game I was brought down on the edge of the area and we scored from the free-kick and my winning of the free kick was mentioned at the end of the game.

So far all is good in the world of BAL. We are 3rd in Siere A have W1-L1 in Europa League and won 2-0 in first leg of Coppa Italia against Napoli

the AI definitely scores for you, that's not a problem in this version. however, they have a hard job getting the ball up to the final third, and you'll have to participate to get the ball up to a scoring position. this is where the AI's flaws show most. kinda funny when defenders pass it back and forth between each other only to lose it in the end but that's BAL 2011 for ya

I've yet to find it.

You can change the ball for certain cups in some Edit menu, but no in the leagues.

It's kinda like the Champions League/Europa League balls last year, they're set.

Hey what's up

I actually posted another comment in this thread where i started saying about my carrer so far

Updates

To answer your question, i started with 70 overall rating, im actually surprised you can start with more than that.

Well, i started with lazio, where i played 22 matches in the season, scoring 3 goals and 3 assists. At the end of the season, i got an offer from manchester united, for just a little less than 100,000 euros. I was very happy with that.

Started then with manchester united and got enough money to get another agent. Then i selected that I wanted to play for real madrid. Played 46 matches in the entire season, scoring 13 goals and 7 assists. At the end of the season i got the offer to play for real madrid, 608,000 euros for 4 years. Just started a training match with the team, where i got an assist. Its pretty cool because you can select in what team you want to play for, something you couldn't do in PES 2010. That's why i love PES 2011 BAL mode

I'm going to post my player stats in a while.

I've played BAL the entire last weekend, restarted a couple of times, tried out different difficulty settings etc...

I love this mode, have before but this is top even though there could be so much more to add! I would love more reactions to this as so much is still unclear to me.

Currently I'm playing a CF speedster with poacher and speed merchant skills, learning an extra 1-1 skill.

Anyways, regular and professional seem both ok to play.
What I don't get yet is the transfer thing. Can't seem to choose my own teams but I guess that'll come soon.

It's wonderful how during a match the strategy can change and your actions really do influence the manager's rating. However... I've been playing pretty well, have been rated 6.5 to 7 and sometimes 7.5. Stamina's always in the green but the last matches I get substituted between the 60th and 65th minute.
this has happened for the pst 6 matches, yet I still receive good to nice reviews.
Anyone else have this happen to their character? I wonder how to overcome this as this seems to slow down development of my player.

As teamwork improves, you can really notice increased number of passes coming your way. You'll also find that your collegues will become easier to pass to as they try to be available.

Just playing on regular mode and finished my first season.

From what I remember:

Created my player as a speedster - focusing on speed and power. I re-generated quite a few times and ended up with an overall rating of about 55! It didn't seem to go much higher than that at all. The main stats I was concerned with were speed, acceleration, agility and body balance. My skill cards were goal poacher and turning skills (something about Cross over turn but I don't know how to do it). Over the course of the season I learnt 1v1 skill card and in the process of learing the speed merchant card.

My thinking was that I would hope to be able to not get knocked off the ball so easily whilst having the pace to get into scoring opportunities. Quite how some of you manage to start out with an overall rating of 70+ I don't know!

Anyway, I started off in the PES league since they offered a high starting chance, everyone else was only 10% chance of starting. I have won the PES cup and also the league (by 3pts on the last day of the season). I was top goalscorer and ended up with playing 44 games, scoring 44 with 4 assists (average rating of 6.8). It's the close season now and hardly any good offers have come in. I would like to move to a dutch or french league team that's also playing in europe. Otherwise I might stay with my current team as we're in the champions league next season - although we will get whooped.

I recommend putting more focus on your speed state in the player creation and work on everything else later.

This season Bal has completely changed in terms of stat growth. Its all about long term aims and not momentary glory. Top speed and acceleration are alot harder to acquire in training and becomes almost impossible to get once you get to a certain age.

Staima, dribbling, passing, defending, power and shooting however stay at a constant.

I just started a new BAL as Thomas Muller, from Bayern Munich. It's exactly the same as the normal mode, except you play as an existing player.

Yes, you can choose ANY player, that exists in the game, young or old. So Messi fans will be able to play as Lionel Messi in BAL if they so desire :)

BAL mode has definitely had a face lift since I played in 2009. Like it a lot. I am still very rusty though; can you give me tips on how to get high manager ratings and high player ratings?

I am playing as a CF. Obviously goals/assists will help a lot for player ratings. Any other tips? Shots on goal?

Also, when the manager changes tactics I have had some trouble. I think he says something along the lines drop back to your half to defend and work on a quick counter; I've tried everything and still can't get him to like my play.

The BAL mode expansion kits aren't all that interesting, at least to me. Sure, being immune would be great, but not realistic. And, I don't want "help" getting signed to my favorite club. If I get there I want to have earned it! Those just seem like CHEATS to me. What do you guys think?

I'm loving the new BAL mode and the presentation is really nice. I just HATE the intro with the white board and the coach repeating what he always says before games. I think I've only seen about 3 variations:

The default 'get out there and get 'em boys'
The 'they're a better team but we can do it'
(and now I can't remember the third one I've seen off the top of my head)

I love the coach's report AFTER the games. Most of the time he's amazingly SPOT ON. I'm surprised. I wonder how they managed to get the game to track what you actually do in game and translate that to your coach's subjective evaluation.

That one wouldn't bother me. In my BALs with 2010, I played for the biggest clubs in the world, but never got an offer from the club I support, which really frustrated me. I would've loved the chance to make my name and/or finish my career with Villa, trying to lead them to PES glory, and would've left Milan, United, and co in a heartbeat. Since offers are more or less random, I don't see a problem with just increasing the odds of being presented that opportunity.

I started out as an WF with 71 overall and 90+ in dribbling speed, accuracy, accelaration and agilty. Had a pretty good first season at lazio. My tactics so far are just running down the sides and cross the ball in front of goal for the strikers to head it in. I had 26 assists in my first season. Got a transfer to real madrid and now getting my occasional sub in the 60th minute. I have a question though: I cant seem to select the option to give my scout a team I want to play for. I can see the option but it's not highlighted so I cant select it.. Is this normal?

Wow, I wonder how you people do that.
I have created 6 BAL players, each with over 20 recreations, never I got a player with ratings over 59. They were all CF or SS players.
I tried speedster, all-rounder and that option where you see a running player in between three others standing his ground.
Do you people retry for an hour to get a one in a million player?

Anyway, I have had form going up to 8 so one of my players has never gone less than green in over 14 matches. Usually he's with an orange or red arrow on the field. Guess that compensates the low overall-rating.

No matter which player I play or how well I do...
I'm in the starting line up and am the first player to get off the field even when I'm still MVP and have plenty more stamina left than others on the field.

I can't use any options from my agent but I guess I'm misunderstanding something there.

I certainly didn't recreate more than a few times. I did find that you have to choose wisely to create a good player.

For instance: choosing the all rounder with a CF, than relogate the points to shooting and dribbling, plus 2 in power nets you with a CF around 75.
Choosing the dribbler with the WF and relogate the points to speed and dribbling, plus 2 in stamina, nets you with a WF around 70.
My WF has 8 in condition, but only 64 balance which makes him a bit weak. I just try to not avoid battles for the bal, my 94 dribbling helps with that

I'll take that into serious consideration and will have another fiddle with allocating the focus points right after selecting the role and type of player. I think I might have been too conservative by not allocating a sufficient amount of points to other attributes.
Will have another go at it tonight, thanks for the tip!

I agree with the last three but "Play as an existing player" is funtastic.

I'm currently using Thomas Muller in Bayern Munich and BAL is actually a lot more fun, for some reason.

Yes as you cant register created players at a club (correct me if I'm wrong) what you can do is edit an existing player then start the game with whatever statsv you like. Remember to go back into edit mode once you have saved BAL and return the player to his default settings.

I tested it and started at tottenham on £7m + pounds salary and was called up into england sqaud at start of season.

It is cheating to do this but hey its loads of fun. ha

Your edited player ages from whatever age you set him up with in edit mode so you can still play out full BAL seasons.

Also found that if you fast forward and skip to many games you will only be offered one year contracts. I skipped an entire season and this was all I got offered.

I will now create a fairly good player with only slighty better than the starting stats so that it doesnt get to easy to early but wow I feel spoilt not having to toil through 3 yrs of being knocked off the ball at every touch.

Yes, it would work.

It's one way to start at your favorite club.

You make a player that is at the same level of skill as any new BAL player (around 60-70 overall skill, atleast one specialty area) and put him in your favorite team from the start, and then start the game as him.

You could also make a player with 99 in everything, put him in Barcelona and go on to win every freaking title in the game, if you'd want to :)

Sounds awesome, but i just want to create a decent player to start with e.g. 80 for everything as the stats take so long to improve. Can you tell me how you earnt so many GP points already to unlock the BAL features from the shop? I have won world cup and copa liberartordes and have only 360 points.

Pres R2/RB twice to call for a pass. It's in the command menu which you can access within game too. If you start a game and then pause, I think it's called "command menu."

Today I decided to put in some time in the training mode and practice skill moves. I practiced for about 30 minutes the different ones and the ones that I liked the most. I started to employ these in my BAL experience since I had been ignoring skills due to the fact that the method is different.

I'm still getting used to it, but it has improved my fun quite a bit. Considering the AI ALWAYS knocks you off the ball, skills really help you sometimes when you have the space! When they are successful it feels a lot more rewarding now when you beat that one or two defenders!

Just started mine yesterday 6 games in with Valenciennes in the French league. Started as a defensive midfielder not a bad position to start in. Think i put myself in as a dynamic something can't remember what it was. Can someone tell me when you start to notice your stats go up? Mine have barely budged except maybe my teamwork and I've been playing pretty good on top player usually rate between 6.5 and 7.5 usually 7 or 7.5.

Also can you change positions, my manager has decided to keep putting me in right back for some reason and I have turned into a butcher there. Usually getting 6's there because of it.

heruva
14-10-2010, 08:12
@LHL90: you can't change positions, the manager puts you where he wants. Check my team > manager's rating.
If he says you have to learn an extra position, he might not want to put you in a DF position anymore.

Furthermore, when you're playing at a position for which you have not acquired the role EG: you're a CF playing as an AM, you'll get less experience points even when you get high ratings. It also depends on how long you're on the pitch. You'll get higher exp for playing full matches.
But... your stats DO advance slowly, that's the way it is...
After about half a season I managed to increase my shooting stats, stamina and passing all by 1.

I have only played a few games and started really well. Signing a contract with De Grafshaap in the Dutch Premier.

My opening two league games I bang in the winner in both. Fantastic.

The manager then drops me for the next 3 games, and I manage to get a place on the bench for the opening cup game!

I come on in the 62nd Minute for a free kick....its floated forward and the defender heads it out. I am then subsituted!! WTF! At the end of the game I am met with my stats played 62' - 62' and the manager states that I did not have enough time for him to judge me! Your telling me gaffer....its stumped me and I am now really put off which is a shame!

Guys, if you didn't know, I figured out how to add a club to your "my desired clubs."

Go into Negotiations>Club Search and from there choose the club you want to play for. Once you open that club's menu there will be an Add to 'My desired clubs" option. I didn't notice this option my first season and I'm wondering if it had something to do with me upgrading my agent. So if you don't see this option you might have to wait until you get a new agent.

This sounds brilliant!! so pleased I read this thread! Does your player still improve stats wise if you use this method? I am so going to do this :) Can you also change boots and your players apperance as you go along?

I gotta say, it feels like the BAL curse is still staying strong in 2011 - The better the team you're in, the worse they are.

I'm playing as Thomas Muller (BAL Perk - Original Player) and I played my first half season at his Bayern Munich side. They were good, really good. They could play ball without me, they could create chances and most passes actually connected. The defense was still crap but we didn't concede too many goals.

And then I moved to Chelsea...

You'd think that you'd find yourself in a really good team if you move to Chelsea, right? Nah.

6 games played; Three 1-1 results, Two 1-0 losses and a single 1-0 win.

The defense is riddiculously bad, there's no pressure what so ever and we're actually losing the possesion game by 60-40 every single match - and our tactic is Offensive Possesion Game!

What's worse is, the offense. 20% of the passes connect, if that, and I get about 1, maybe 2 chances at goal every game. Compare it to atleast 3-4 chances at goal at Bayern and you'll understand.

I'll stick with it, things chance after all, but it really feels like moving to, what I thought, a major club like Chelsea mightve been the worst thing I could've done.

Man, I'm pissed!

Started very well, gaining my way to the first 11, scoring 2 games and getting 2 assists in my 6 games as a starter....

And then, all of a sudden, the manager changed tactics from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1, and now there's no longer an SS on the starting 11....

Result: I eventually am used at CF and AMF for 2 games, and end up getting in the last 5 minutes of every game... and already missed 2 games from not getting called to the 1st team. On top of that, on friendlies, I am being used as an SB...

I am now training CF and spending 6 training points on it, so I can get some more playing time...

Really upset with this...

Gave up on my CF. He had 86 overall after nearly 3 seasons and then he stopped developing. Now I've started with a new All-Rounder AMF with some awesome stats(Almost done with the first season)

Had to redo player creation at least 25 times to get these stats. His short pass was 95 when I started.

Just started my BAL with Wigan, as a Striker. Doing well at the moment. Always seem to score against teams in friendlys, but when it comes to the league, I find it more difficult to get a chance. I've scored 4 goals in 9 games so far this season, which is pretty good, considering the manager plays a 4-5-1 formation with me coming off the bench the majority of the time.

Also, body balance? Is that now only done through defense? Or is it stamina? The only 2 I'm sure about so far are shooting and passing, but what about the rest?

With me as a starter we were 1W-4D-1L and 3 of those draws we were winning when I got subbed.
With me as a sub/not called, we are 2W-1D-8L....

Make note that different teams give you different bonus for training... that includes more training points for some particular aspects, as well as more training points to spend as you wish.

Ah, cool.. thanks.

Also, gotta say I hate how some teams advertise as needing certain positions just so they can slot you completely out of position at a whim (this hasn't been fixed since 2009, I'm beginning to think it's a feature)

Why do I, for example, get pretty much every game for FC Roda in my first season AT my native position (SS) even though they only advertised 43% when at the same time the supposed 87% at Lorient which ALSO has an SS position puts me to play a freaking CMF all the time?! Note, I played pretty much equally as well in both teams and have scoed around 6.5-7.0 in the first few matches..and also.. these were both fresh starts with a new player in BAL..

Well, keep you posted on more developments when I finally decide what team I want to stick with :D

My season took a turn for the best!!

After training the CF position (8 long weeks) I easily made my way to the first 11! (I wasn't being called up or was just playing 15min as an AMF after they changed formation from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1, I'm a SS by the way)

I finished with 32 matches 6 goals and 2 assists and 6.2 rating, as we finished 14th in La Liga (playing with Racing Santader).

Through the season I was injured 3 times, my first for 4 weeks, then 2 weeks and then the last 4 weeks of the season. Never during a match.

Before the end of the season, I got myself a propposal from.... BARÇA!! The league champions!! And a 90.500€ 3 year contract!!!!

Next season, on my debut for Barça, subbing in on 20 min after Messi got injured, I scored on a header from a corner! Finished with 7.0 rating!
My 2nd game I subbed in at halftime and got a 6.5 rating!

After that great start, I earned a call to my national squad, Portugal!
I made my debute, comming in at halftime for Liedson to play CF, and got a 6.5 rating.

P.S: Just noticed I have P17, defensive support. I didn't train it, and can't be sure if I started with it already....

The difference between Barça and Racing is huge!

Barça can mantain the ball a lot longer, their midfield has great ability both in recovering the ball and distribuing it!

I can thus play a lot better, and get more touches, with Barça than I ever did with Racing.

With Racing I had 1 or 2 chances every game... with Barça I'm getting 3 or more....

I was worried after reading that there wasn't much difference between top teams and mid/bottom ones, but I can say that is tottaly untrue!

That was what i wanted to do, etablish a stats table for training skills, with "Attack" "Defense" etc.
That was possible to calculate this stuff in pes 2009, because the "progress bar" have a percentage indication...
And the player's random scouting isn't helping for calculate wich stats exactly are involved...

Training skills are not the same as PES 2009 and 2010.

Do stats improve slowly in this years version?

I created my player with overall 79 in the edit mode at West Ham before unlocking the "start with an exisiting player" in the unlockables. Meant I could start at West Ham like I wanted. I have noticed that my stats are hardlly going up? I`m only 10 games in but wondred if this was because I was using an existing player? I`m still at 79. I dont get how the natch expericnce is added to the focus points either?!! Please help :)

Do stats improve slowly in this years version?

Yes, it is definitely slower this year. And while Agility is possible to improve this year, it is really slow. Most typically "natural born" abilities are very hard to improve it seems, while other more technical abilities seems easier.

This is not confirmed knowledge, it is just my impressions after playing a few seasons on several different players.

My current BAL:
Name: Sabatasso
Nation: Argentina
Age: 17
Position: SS
Archetype: Conductor (Evenly focused on passing, dribbling and speed)
Special Abilties: Classic Number 10, Shoulder Feints (Working on speed merchant)

Short description:
Quite small at 1.70m, fairly quick the first few meters but average speed.
He is fairly agile, and his passing and dribbling skills are just above average.
His best ability is his technique.

Season 1.
I became "indispensable" to Catania in the final stage of the season. 16 goals and 13 assists in the debut season is satisfactory, 4th place in Serie A.

Diego Milito is Serie A top scorer with 24 goals for league winners Inter, and I am assist leader with 13.

I am currently torn between going to Atletico Madrid, Tottenham or simply staying with Catania for another season.

I had 6 power in training and it was raising very slowly... I tried putting 6 power and 6 defense and it started growing at a good pace...

Balance= Power+ Defense
The max is 12 (6+6).

I made my player a CF a finisher or shooter (can't remember the name). Started with 63 average. Just finished 1st season with Roda JC scoring 22 goals thanks to my +- 85 shooting skills. I learned that you can't dribble that much and started working on speed. In the Transfer period Several teams came but no really big names except Aston at the ending, i was doubting but chose them eventually. Now with them i dont have a starting place. And the coach just changed the formation to 4-5-1 hope that he wont stay to it. I scored 3 times for them orso. I am now 73 average. I also got called up for Ghana and i am scoring frequently made 7 goals in 5 matches.

Made myself as a powerful side midfielder. Also made myself Irish to give more more international chances :D Signed for Stoke and despite doing very well in training matches I never got picked. Then all of a sudden I got an Ireland call up. Did well in that one then got selected for Stoke, got an assist but then got dropped. Played in all 6 Euro qualifiers for Ireland then played the first game of the season for Stoke. Scored and got dropped. Got an offer from Unirea Uziceni so joined them. Straight in to the first team and Ive scored 6 goals in 12 games and got 3 assists. Ive got 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 games for Ireland. Good career so far. Having the long ranger star has helped me score a couple of screamers aswell :D

Ive got it as something like this;

Shooting -
Attack
Shot Acc
Shot Pow
Shot Tech
FK Acc
Swerve
Heading Acc

Pass -
Short pass Acc
Short pass Spd
Long pass Acc
Long Pass Spd
Freekick Acc
Swerve
Technique

Dribbling -
Dribble Acc
Dribble Spd
Technique

Defence -
Defence
Body Balance
Jump (slightly) - Maybe a taller player would have improved this stat.

Speed
Top Speed (very slightly)
Accel (very slightly)
Response (slightly)
Agility (slightly)
Drib Acc (slightly)
Drib Spd (slightly)

Power -
Body Balance (slightly)
Short Pass Speed
Long Pass Speed
Shot Power

Stamina -
Stamina

Thanx, I've been looking everywhere for something like this. So is this like the exact stat allocation or just roughly. After I created a CF Allrounder with 80 !!!! overall (Here's how I got it- Shooting 5 / Passing 1 / Dribbling 3/ Defense 0 / Speed 3/ Power 2/ Stamina 0) the only thing was Jump was at 71 compared to the other important stat which were pretty high.

So whats the best way to increase Jump after you created your player? Defense and Power training? Or does it increase with matches on its own or if you score from crosses?

Also I found that putting at least 1 point in pass or defense generally increases your Mentality in character creation, so when you get a yellow aggression stat your mentality would now be a High green or low yellow stat. Also putting 6 in shooting is ok but it tends to take away points from stats such as technique and response in favor of high shooting stats which you can increase later, so I say 5 is good and allows you to put a point in pass or extra in dribbling which really changes your stats. Ofcoarse this is all considering your creating a CF All-rounder. You can also get skill cards such as slide tackle, one touch-pay, and different dribbling skills, depending on how you allocated your stats.

BAL keeps getting better and better every year. Though this year there are some extremely annoying bugs like the formation and the manager playing you out of position bugs. It's the only mode I've played since it was first introduced!
I'm glad they finally did something with the money but I feel a little copped out because it's JUST one thing we can do with it.

Hey guys! Here's my story;

Usually I play on ''top player'' difficulty, but this time i decided to try the ''proffesional'', just to save myself a few frustrated tantrums regarding the super fast/strong defenders and such:p

My first impressions were pretty good ... the game doesn't seem all that easier, but i can definitely feel a more relaxed and fair gameplay (the only thing suffering was my pride, knowing there's a tougher level than the one i'm playing:P)

Anyhow, i've decided to create a german CMF called KING;
Choosing a balanced archetype, yet focusing my points mostly on passing, i managed to create a fairly decent passer (around 85 all passing stats) without overly sacrificing other stats. The end result was a 68 overall player, with ''enforcer'' as his special trait.

Immediately i got chosen by AS SAINT-ETIENNE with a starting salary of 50. 000€, and the game took off.

Much to my enjoyment, i started my debut nearly flawlessly by scoring the first and winning goal from outside the box (around 70 shot acc.) and the following matches went pretty solid as well.. Somewhere during the half of the season, Germany called me up for a friendly match, where i've quickly established myself as one of the better players.

Finished the first season with an average rating of 7.0 and got some pretty decent offers from teams (including Arsenal and man. city both offering around 200.000€), however, hoping i could squeeze more from the situation i waited a bit longer and was rewarded with a sensational offer from Bordeaux, who offered a staggering 454.500€ to join their ranks in the next season! Needless to say, the offer was accepted, and i've started the second season alongside Gourcuff and Gerrard -making my breakthrough as a CMF a bit more difficult, yet i manage to keep a solid rating around 6.7/8 during the first few matches.

We're currently 1st in the league 1 and most probably through to the knock-out stage in the CL, managing to defeat AC Milan 2:1

Also, does anyone know what use are the other, more expensive agents? (apart from the ability to supplying better offers)

Hey guys heres my BAL to date created an irish striker named O'Hora started out with 74 overall and signed for Napoli scored 14 goals in my 1st season which thought was good considering how defense minded we were(anyone else notice that when playing in serie a?) Anyway made my irish debut after xmas that year in an embarrassin draw with thailand but broke my international duck with a famous 2 -1 win against Brazil! That summer scored 7 in 6 euro qualifiers as we topped our group to qualify for 1st time since 88 the nation went mad:)
Anyway that summer i signed for Ath. Madrid and immediately formed a partnership with aguero! An impressive unbeaten start to the season saw us top unbeaten and no goals conceded til xmas in both CL copa del rey and La liga but after xmas a tinkering manager and scripting ended our challenge with 8 straight defeats! We ended up 3rd 14 points off the title but with 27 league goals and 6 in Cl it was a successful season!
That summer i became a feared and wanted striker as little old ireland were crowned euro champs with me top scoring with 7 and winning all the titles scorer assist etc! Offers have flooded in but im remainin loyal to Madrid! Just embarked my 3rd season 4 games in 2 goals and been named CL striker of the year! Im expectin big things this year so more to follow:)

I started as a winger forward for Birmingham, played for 2 sessions and soon was called up for England.

Signed for Newcastle in the mid season attracted by the huge pay check as i wanted to hire a better agent. However, I was shocked just a season when Newcastle did not offer me a contract the following year. No club except AZ came knocking on my door. Signed with them a 2 years deal and won the Edv league in the first year. My team players came to me to acknowledge my influence and indicate their strong count on me...(proud..keke)

AZ made me their captain and extended my contract the following year and increase my pay check... = )

Now, I am 20 years old, rating 76 and proud captain of AZ....however, still waiting for a big club....

Sorry, but I'm not here to debate if PES 2011 BAL is the best, or without bugs. Or for the matter if FIFA Be A Pro is better or not. I'm just sharing my view.

Comparing the past, this year 2011 BAL is really great for me, at least for me :)

Training Match

The boring training match between own teammates on the quiet training ground was do away this year. Gosh...it really put me to sleep at times. his year in place was "friendly" matches between other continent teams in the stadium. This certainly makes it more interesting for new players like us to get notice by the manager. Of course, you can choose to skip it.

New Positions

I know many don't really like to wait and get train for new positions when needed, due to the formation change bugs many encounter. However, I thought it was in truth a reality where players may be at times told to adjust to new positions. This of course take time to be trained. Maybe it was just me, but I had seriously never encounter the formation bug till date. I have played one and half season (40 matches) with AZ and till date, the team had hardly change their formation. Only on few occasions I was deploy on the right wing instead of left, which I thought was fair, since I'm two footed. Just my honest view here.

Contract
I hate last year contract system, where contract was renewed only yearly. This year, we will be given straight 2 or 3 years contract at one time. This is certainly more realistic.

Assets
I know this is really nothing great, but it was really satisfying to see my assets growing in thousands and then millions, based on my growing annual salary...:D

Recognition
It was really great when end of the season, one of your star players of the team come to you and state your growing importance to the team. I feel like a star...LOL

Gameplay
Now, of course this is the most important. I know there are many claimed flaws or bugs here and there. But end of the day, I must really said that this end gameplay was certainly more realistic (as per my own playing experience till date). Why? Last year, I kind of enable to exploit a weakness of the game by constantly dribble down the byeline outrun defenders before finally cut in to either lay a simple cross/pass to the middle for someone to shoot or tap in a goal, or attempt a shoot on goals. Playing in Professional level, I was averaging almost 40 assists and 30 goals a season. To me, this is too unreal.

This year, the figures were more realistic. Still on Professional level, and with AZ, we won the league with me making 18 assists and 16 goals overall (I was only 19 yrs old, and rating 73). I can't cut in like last year as i wished now, only on some occasions. Now I can only cross in or sometime cut in to unleash a shoot on goal. At times, I can be close down and lose possession. I need to really depend on making quick passes, find space to run into etc.

Good to Have for 2012
I wish things can be included are like:

Personal endorsement as our playing reputation grow. more money means better agent, better team to play for....

Buddies or foes in the team - how often we read in the newspaper where players show their dislike against each other. This goes for the same between managers and players...like SAF and Roo...hehe...

Character - we have playing characteristic to choose like speed demon or playmaker, how about off field characters like media darlings or party boy? hehe

Overall
As i said before, i don't say this game is without flaws or bugs, but i really enjoy it alot. Like some said, its just a game. :D

Yeag chickenzip i like the endorsement and character idea! Maybe they could elaborate on them like have a boot deal, say you start off with konamis default boots and the better you play you get a deal! With regards your character wouldnt it be nice to do interviews after or before big games and say if you diss your next opponent they boo ya or if you return to a former club depending on your status there i.e. crowd favourite or badboy the crowd reacts appropiately!

yap Swanaldiniho, you hit the nail head. return as either a former hero or deflector status...wow...cool!

due to OF issue, i have to sadly re-create my BAL yesterday...now freshman in Aston Villa, just got my first sub-role not until 6 months later, enter the match in 70 mins for Carew against Blackburn and broke the deadlock from a through ball assist by Petrov. i was jumping like a kid... = P

After the whistle, Frediel came to me in the dresroom and told me to keep going...nice... = )

I started at potters and played for a season learnt to play AMF and CF (started as SS) and mainly worked on stamina to stay on longer in games!and shooting scored quite afew goals but then at the end of the season it seemed to get harder to score and my team mates seemed to get worse
so i moved for slightly less money to a french team since then im the leading scorer, and the managers top CF SS AMF the game seems to play much better the football seems better too, nice passing , my passing has improve 100%
will stay here to improve loads as the main man then, look for a return to another league!!

I gave BAL a final chance by enabling the Play as Professional perk and gave our own national superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic a shot, which was quite fun. Though it didn't last for more than half a season.

Instead, I found myself playing - and liking - the Master League. I have detested from that crap since 2008 but for some reason, it's a lot more fun this year.

MY BAL

For my BAL I chose the speed demon option, lining it with power to create a fast accurate striker, it worked out for the most part in my first years but has encountered some issues as my years progress.

The game play is fun ( minus some less than stellar decision making from teammates) and the extra perks and scenarios in BAL really make you feel like a part of the experience.

The only issue I seem to have is the growth system, which seems to peak far too early and is relatively useless.

I have made 3 BAL characters and all have peaked early, i average a rating of 7.5 a game and have become a leading character in my teams attacking plays. I single handedly gave my country the copa america scoring 7 goals in 4 games and I have played trained to play both CF as well as winger.

Despite all this I seem to be getting no offers, my overall rating has merely risen 4 points in 3 seasons, and the six training points I have allocated to my speed have given me 0 growth in speed, top speed, dribble speed or acceleration in 3 seasons. I have become the leading goalscorer for my current team so my manager has decided to start playing me as an attacking midfielder where I get a overall rating of 28 in the position.

suffice to say the game is fun, but its being ruined by the details, I am even contemplating possibly lowering the difficulty to regular to see if better displays gain me more positives.

Damn i'm shocked i didn't get called up for the WC. Don't get it i have played for like 3 seasons with the NT being the undisputed striker scoring in almost every game WTF!! But i got over it as i am only 20 and more WC will come. The other thing bothering me is that coaches always changes to 4-5-1 WTF konami why would something like that occure in the game it is getting me pretty angry being the lonely striker. I am like 84 overall and in my 5th season 21 years at Sevilla. I leaved spurs for them because i wanted to play CL i think if you dont play CL you wont get many offers from top clubs. Just made my debut in the CL scoring the only and winning goal against inter. A tip for the guys here work on your body balance as it gives you more time to think while your not being struggling to stay up.

But on some occasion, the AI of BAL can be quite ridiculous. Take for example one season i was playing for AZ in year 2012, i noticed almost the entire Barcelona team was beyond recognition. Imagine them selling top player like Ineista, Xavi & Pique and replacing them was some really sub-standard player of avg rating around 70 (no offence though). And can you really imagine players like Torres play for Fulham...no joke...(sorry, again no offence to Fulham fans, but i cant help it)
But on second thought, nothing is impossible in soccer. who would have thought of Sunderland beating Chelsea 3 - 0 at their Stamford Bridge???

i remember those times when i was playing Football manager, and how people cried fouls of their beloved teams get beaten up by the lower teams. now they should get it...

My first time using BAL.. Created a Welsh left footed side back (predominantly left side), signed for West Ham, about 10 league games in and having played roughly half of these, I've managed to grab an assist or two, a man of the match performance and I've just gained some level of trust from my team mates.. Statistically I'm not progressing as much as I'de like, averaged about a 6.3 rating and the team are battling it out for Europa League place. I don't suppose with this current trend anyone can guess if/when I'll be called up to the national team?

ok now things that are bothering me slightly.

1. whats with the inability of the AI never giving you a lobbed through ball?
2. no matter how good or bad the oppistion is they always pass better defend better keep possesion better?

I am loving BAL as well. It makes me laugh a bit to see people as world player of the year in third season as 19 year old. Scoring more goals than games and just making things way too easy and ridiculous for themselves.

I am trying to take it a bit slower and keep things realistic. I started out as a lowly 65 as a well rounded box to box American center mid. Still waiting for a great US option file, so some teams are still defualt. Started in the PES League with Mrabspor and realistically had to play almost half my season out of position at SMF while i built up skills before i could be the starting CM fulltime. Halfway through the season i got called up for the US national team friendlies. ended first season with a run to the semis of Europa, and second in the league. Scored 15 goals and had 13 assists in all competitions.

At the end of the season I was made the captain of the team, and was planning on staying another season there given the team and manager confidence in me. However, in the summer transfer window, manager signed 2 CM and 1 AMF, all with better overall ratings than myself. I took this as an affront, and decided that i would not realistically be playing in this situation, so moved on to FC Twente in the Eredivisie on double my starting wages. Halfway through my second season and first with Twente, I am up to 69 overall as an 18 year old, which is perfectly fine with me. I am hoping to get really good (80 or above) by the time i'm 24 or so. Consistent national team call-ups given the relatively poor stats for America. Hope to play in all of the leagues in the game at one point or another and take my time with teams for added realism as no one really jumps to a new team every season. Cant wait to get home and play some more.

I'm trying to get into it... but its hard. I'm at Newcastle. They play sooooooooo defensively. The wingers are useless, faff about on the ball all the time, so slow. Whenever the manager decides to change to 2 up front, he'll put Barton up there, then take me off!!

PLease tell me it gets better?

Ali_BWFC

Seems like i killed this thread. Anyway, I'll give an update. After 1 full season at Newcastle, I decided to sign a contract at Udinese, after the Newcastle coach inexplicably decided to change a decent (winning) formation to a more defensive one, leaving me up front on my own, with little support... and it doesn't help that I'm quite short!

A few things are annoying me. Like I mentioned earlier, the wingers mess about on the ball, don't pass it soon enough. Plus, it seems to be programmed in that a player must take a shot when he enters the box, even if there are other players in miles better positions.

Another thing is the fact that playing a give and go is useless, because it controls the run for you!

I started at Newcastle too, Gravy. I think when you first join a team, it's tough because of your teamwork rating, but after it gets better, so do your team mates. My Udinese team were hopeless, after the cutscene saying they were getting used to me, we won 4-0, and I got a goal and an assist. Should have had 5 assists but the strikers are crap at finishing... mainly Victor Obinna.
Once they improve the AI of your team mates, I could see myself spending more time on this.... but at the moment, the AI is (literally) controller-slammingly frustrating.

What difficulty is everyone playing at? I'm playing on regular at the moment, despite playing normal matches on top player.

Gravy
30-11-2010, 12:27
Yeah the teamwork rating is massively important once you hit that magic number 40-45 i can't remember anymore the team play like you exist for once. Everytime you join a new club its the same too, its the games mechanic for making you play well in training etc then getting into the team. Once you get to the big teams they usually just start you in the starting lineup and you just have to play well to stay there. Once you get to be capt you team work can continue to rise im on 62 atm with barca.

You gotta play on top player to get the best out of the ai, i mean the ai is easy to beat on regular so its not going to be great at passing etc on regular in bal - thats how i see it. Once you get used to top player its like any other mode you get used to how the game scripts and what you can and can't do.

30-11-2010, 14:02
I'll try playing on professional later, go for a gradual increase in difficulty. I actually started off on TP 1st, but then lowered the difficulty. Still, even with the increased teamwork, team mates still shoot as soon as they get in the box, no matter how hard the angle.
Also wingers always cut back, never just run down the wing and hoof it in, AND crosses are always crappy floaty ones that never get as far as the penalty spot!

I rekindled my love for the game mode and dusted off an old formula for a french striker and started out at Lorient.

Halfway through the first season, we're contending by staying in third, behind Lyon and Marseille.

I finally started with decent stats and an overall rating over 65 (73 this time around), with shooting stats in the high 80's, which is good because it means I can focus on my speed. Trained early for 1v1 Scoring and Speed Merchant - MUST HAVE Skill cards for a striker in my eyes.

Right now, I can't see us overtaking Lyon or Marseille, as they are about 5 points ahead and they're not losing. Neither of the teams have lost this year - and even more surprising is that Lyon hasn't even conceded a single goal! (PICTURE LINK) (http://i53.tinypic.com/33paiiw.jpg)

Hopefully, Paris Saint-Germain will come for, as it's a personal dream to play for the club. And then eventually Liverpool, obviously :)

Are you playing on pc ali? Maybe try out those gameplay patches ive tried them for ML and they seem ok but they might effect BAL more than you think. Obviously just ignore me if your on PS3/xbox. Im going to test the patches sometime today maybe the new ones for 1.02 that is. If you watch my vids you can see that you rarely get crosses that are effective because adding to that if you shout for the ball they play direct to feet, you have to just allow the player to do what he will. There are downfalls to this mode but its much better than previous years versions.

Generally i only ask for the ball if the ai is being stupid and doesnt pass or i think i can do a better job myself. You'd be suprised the difference playing with better teams make ie I could tell straight away the difference with Newcastle-Lyon then another big gap playing alongside Messi n co. Sneijder and Pirlo currently in the team at barca and they don't miss a trick in the midfield. BAL is like that grafting at the start and then gets easier as your stats and the team you play with is better.

Thought id update on what i said earlier about trying out those gameplay patches, 1.08b seems the way forward, the defenders don't panic and hoof it out on your team they just pass forward when they can, also i seemed to get on the end of some great throughballs which seems to be coming my way a lot, finally they cross better too delivering a decent cross into the box when in the right place to do so - i got caught behind the play expecting them to cut back lol. All in all id advise you to try it out if your on PC.

I play on ps3 Gravy.

I don't have the problem of defenders hoofing, the opposite actually. Players keep turning into trouble, rather than away from it. It's also frustrating that the AI doesn't know how do do through balls at the right time.

I'm rated 68 at the moment in SS, so it's going ok for me. Getting a few goals and assists which is nice.

So Far I am 1st in Leage with 10 Points scored 4 goals and 1 assist for Getafe.

Ended the season ona fairly high note - finished third in the league with my Lorient side, behind Lyon and Marseille.

Lyon did eventually concede, but they ended the season having conceded only 6 goals. Insane.

Got selected for the french national side for a friendly towards the end, that was nice. Meant I was pretty much firmly set in the team for the Euro 12 Qualifiers, which we qualified from after beating Portugal and Turkey twice, and winning one-losing one agains't Croatia.

A new season begins, and I'm a top team :)

Ravex - on PES 2010 was playing a match against Juve with Napoli (in ML), and thought "Hang on, this goalie is a bit shite".... then realised they were using an outfield player in net! Not only that, but they kept changing him around, and in one bizzare instance, the player who they put in the outfield position was wearing a GK outfit aswell as the actual player in net! I looked at their team after, turns out they sold all their GKs!

Anyway, back on topic. After a season at Udinese, I thought I'd stay with them for one more. Valencia came in with a lucrative offer, I turned it down... but then Bolton (my fav team obviously) came in with a (strangely) more lucrative offer, plus a better chance of 1st team football. So I signed for Bolton and it's going pretty well so far. Got a couple of England caps, 1 goal and 1 assist so far for them.

Bolton have actually signed some good players. Moses, Stoch, Mbokani... Sergio Ramos!

I've started as a CF with an overall of a mear and crappy 65. Anyway, im halfway through my first season with Heracles Almelo. Theres been moments where i've been swearing at the tv like mad because of the AI walking right into there tackles and loosing simple balls, but hey it keeps me working harder to get that win! I'm currently on my 12th fixture in the league (not quite halfway, i know) and i've scored 6 goals. We're currently in quite poor form if im honest, despite us managing to hold out for a 0-0 draw with Liverpool. Is it just me or does anyone else find themselves getting frustrated because they cannot score? Or simply because they lose or draw? Most likely just me seeing as i decided to buy PES 2011 because i felt Fifa was too arcadey and always ending up winning .

I've only managed to bag 1 assist aswell, im pretty sure im crap at this game tbh. I'm playing on proffesional/top player - I'm bumping the difficult up and down depending on the game and the team im playing. Any tips would be appreciated on how to improve my game. And yes, i know about the training modes or any of them i just felt that tips from what seems to be very experienced people would be a great way to go!

I have Started as a CF called Gary Sanchez, with an overall of 59.
I signed for Wigan and played about 20 league games, and some Euro League Games too.
My ratio is played 29 scored 8, which I like the realism, a 17 old striker for Wigan would not bang in 20+ goals.
Of course I'm playing on Top Player, I really dont see the point in playing in any other difflelculty, I would feel like I have not really scored if I were to scorer in a lower diffelculty.

Wigan are pants anyway, were 14th in the league after 23 games (realistic) and we made the last 32 of the Europa League. I scored the winner against Auxurre that put us through.
We lost to Palermo on the away goal over 2 legs.

I'm loving this years BAL mode so far, the agent is a great feature and there are genrally less anoying bugs than prevuios.

Even though I'm a better SS or CF, I actually like playing AM, since you get more of the ball, can still score goals, plus more opportunity for getting assists. I like assists, scoring is easy, assists are harder to get.

My one and only season at Manchester United ended in dissapointment - 5th place finish and didn't reach the final in any of the cups I played in. 10 goals and 5 assists in 28 games played.

I didn't think too long when Paris Saint-Germain came with an offer. Back home to France for a stint then.

I did however claim one medal this year - UEFA Euro 2012! Beat Germany in the final 1-0 after a near-miss goal by myself (Neuer saved two shots in a row but missed the third, which rebounded off the crossbar twice before going in).

I was awarded Best Player and Top Goalscorer with 4 goals in 6 games.

I was playing my first year for ADO den Haggen of Eredevise and I got an offer from Arsenal in like February, but they only offered me like almost half (28.000€) of what I was making already in the dutch team (50.000€), and it was a 3 years deal! I still had the worst agent as I was in the beggining and not had much money. I accepted the offer because I was getting tired of the poor team I was on, but now that I am in the summer transfer window and finished eredivise I realise I may have done a horrible mistake. I got the team to finish 2nd(!) and was the top assistant and figured on the 11 of both Eredivise and the dutch cup. And I was selected by my national team to play the Euro 2012!
What can I do now to get a better contract? Wait until the next winter transfer window so I move out of Arsenal then? Because this way, seen what I will be earning, I won't be able to afford better agents and stuff like that... So what can I do?? Please help me!

Well, after reading all of your stories, I am glad most of you are enjoying the mode as much as I am!

As for me, I have a CF(main)/SS/CF(it's rare for me to be used as anything else than CF, and since Higuan was sold, Real Madrid really need a spearhead) on Real Madrid currently with many soccer superstars (Ribery, Arshavin, Silva). It's really great having to play CF with these guys on SS and WF positions because you see a lot of wonderful goals with great passing, understanding and finishing. They can score goals without me, but it is rare, and usually I have to get the game started with a goal or an assist.

I'm playing on Regular difficulty currently, and realize that is a big mistake considering my goal is to make it as realistic as possible. Like some of you said, a CF in Real Madrid scoring 29 goals in overall 20 games is a bit unreal. And seeing the guy who scored twice as much as games played, I will change to Top Player or Professional IMMEDIATELY. Although it might still continue being easy considering my fellow strikers.

But anyway, I do have a few questions.

What camera do you guys use for BAL mode? I feel like the default camera was containment, since you could never really see who is around you and who you can pass to. It would be more realistic if the camera moved depending on where your character was looking. So I play on Wide cam and it is much easier when looking for a pass or assist, since you see most (if not all) of the choices. There is a bad side to playing on wide cam though, like when you're 1-1 with the goalkeeper and have to finish. I feel like it's more confusing with wide cam. Also, when shooting from far away, you can't even see the goal ( just cross your fingers). This is a big dealing considering that my character is a prolific goal scorer card and has high goal accuracy and power.

When did you guys get called up for international duty and what team were you in then? I'm really confused about what being called on is based on. But concluding on when I was called up (playing at Madrid in my 4th season), I feel like it's a combination of how popular your team is, how well you're doing in that team and your popularity overall. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, going back on the topic of the changing formations problem, it's never happened to me. Did your character's team get new players before the formation switch? I feel like that would be the reason formation would change (so that the manager can make use of all of his new bought players). And, if they were better than you(higher overall stats and popularity), you were probably overlooked on the formation change.

I have a lot of things to say on more of the topics you guys talked about, but I really didn't want to write a very long post (eh, too late but it could have been longer) and bore y'all.

yeah but im not even getting a single min of play
soon as ball goes out of play i get subbed off,its crazy
What about during Training Matches? You should try playing in those and score a few goals to get up in Rating.
And same with me dan80, I've seen other teammates of mine get subbed off right when they get subbed in. It's only sometimes though.

considering your high rating, i would recommend you to level up the game to higher one.
the captaincy is determined by tenacity, age, popularity, and teamwork.

i began play with side mid, tenacious battler so have an 8 form. that way i tend to have red/yellows form all season. so the manager would prefer me to be played.
after a few years, i managed to increase my weak foot rating with both of 6's.
my first club was almeria, now with villareal just won the CL beat down Barca :D

just wondering, do anyone have P card(s) embedded or granted as a bonus? that such as trickster, long ranger, free roaming, etc

yeah i tried the predetors they was alright and then tried nike T90 and they were not fast so i think nike mercurial and adidas F50 are best for speed.

At first the mode can be boring when your player is bad and at a bad club but more you play more addictive it becomes.
