Scenario
No one saw it coming... Just yesterday it was the same old routine; you wake up in the morning, you step outside and look up to see the beautiful sun beaming. You go to the shop on the corner, grab a loaf of bread, some milk and today’s newspaper.
Maybe you sit outside in your porch as you enjoy the beautiful summer’s morning and see the happy faces that pass you by, greeting you “good morning”.
You finish your crossword puzzle and then head outside to interact with everyone. Sometimes the interaction gets a bit heated and intense, but that’s normal and leads to nothing, right?
Wrong.
What we saw this morning would change our lives forever. Just yesterday he was in the top position. He ran the town and was respected by his people, although some no doubt feared him.
Everything seemed normal, until there was a sound of a heated discussion. This was normal for him, so there was no surprise among the members of the town. And then there was a loud BANG.
Everyone rushed outside. Some seemed confused, while the others knew what had happened. There he lied dead. On top of the world yesterday. Six feet under the today.
As the incident began to sink in, so did the paranoia. Everyone knew that the only way to get into the town, was to join the community. Which meant that one of their own had killed the big boss.
But who?
Rules
You’re not allowed to use the PM I sent you as proof of your role.
The day period will last 24 hours.
The night period will last for 18 hours.
Only mafia members are able to discuss game matters at the night period.
If there are more than half the votes for member, he is lynched.
Votes can be made at any period during the day period.
To officially vote for a member, please put it in bold; e.g. VOTE NAME.
You are allowed to take away your vote at anytime during the day period. To officially do this please follow the same formula as above; e.g. UNVOTE NAME
If you vote, but then you have a change of mind and unvote, you are still allowed to vote (for anyone).
That’s about it, any questions just PM me or whatever.

I just thought of a flaw in the rules, Joel. The PM's the mafia have to make could be seen by anyone if they click on that member's user page and it says 12:30 private messaging for example. They could constantly check a member's activity.

A strange world where we live in today. No one verbally talks to each other anymore. They just type. When was the last time you wrote someone a handwritten letter? I remember the time young Guiseppe and his broad used to write each other almost everyday. Then some punks decided they wanted Teresa for themselves. Guiseppe being the devoted lover that he was, tried to save her but got a switch blade in the back, severing his spine. Now he's paralysed from top to bottom and cannot communicate with us. A shame, since we might never find out who the culprits are.
However, I can see a rage in his eyes every time Tom Cruise or Val Kilmer are on the TV. Likewise, when passing a church or seeing holy images. Perhaps he's trying to tell us something. :hmm:

Quite ironic that Mafia Wars has begun on the day in which the five New York mafia families have come under police raid, with 127 arrests, coincidence, or a sign of things to come?
My absence thus far is understandable, being a respectable tax-paying citizen of course, who works hard to then contribute to the economy of the town. As opposed to those who have been obviously slacking from their town duties, whether they're in their offices using up the time of their employers to post suspicions, or whether they're simply scroungers from the town itself. :hmm:
This will be interesting to see how la cosa nostra members cope with the pressure of maintaining the facade, the disguise and the life of normal citizens for once.

Mafia members are only supposed to talk in the night session, but I have no problem with them making decisions during the day as well.
But the decision on who they want to kill can only come in the night session.
Night 1 will start midnight.

Having said that, I believe Dale's point to be a very good one. It, also, looks to me like a double-bluff by Papa. It's a very clever psychological trick to play, and if anyone here's clever enough to play such a trick, it's Papa. But it's also a risky one.
Of course, it would be foolish to overlook the two who have not posted - Jonno and Top Gun. Their silence perhaps indicates that they have something to hide and would prefer not to say anything, lest they reveal something incriminating.
I am also suspicious of muscularmatt, for no particular reason.
However, having weighed up all the evidence presented, it seems to me that the first mafia member has fallen into our hands:

Day 1 Summary
The day started slowly. Everyone seemed to be feeling out each other.
But as the sun went down, the fingers seemed to point towards one direction: Papa.
At first it was just a few accusations, but as the day got closer to its close, members of the town decided to change their direction from their primary target, towards Papa.
Papa was 14 minutes from safety, when the final and deciding blow arrived. The majority of the town was spoken. And Papa was sent to the rope. 3 minutes later and he was gone. But was it the right decision?
No. The town had made a big error on Day 1, as they sent their fellow townie to the rope. Somewhere a group of people are laughing and rubbing their hands as they prepare for the night.
That concludes Day 1.

Thanks for the help, but I think it will tip her over the edge, what with her previous love Haribo coming out of the closet, it really had an affect on her self-worth, and I love her too dearly to see her hurt like so again. I think it's best if I opt for the great suggestion from Bammers, and say he's in the army now defending his love for the country and her freedom. At least when she hears he has passed away, he done so fighting off many enemy soldiers before diving on a grenade to save his platoon while declaring with his last words "my heart will always be with Amedea". Papa became suspicious to me when he tried to turn the town into a old Italian City, if that doesnt say "Im with the Mafia" Then what does....I had good reason to choose Papa, unfortunately I was wrong and a hard working citizen has been lost, if he had stayed quiet then he may have survived the lynching so let this be a lesson to us all, just because someone speaks out or has an opinion doesnt automatically mean he is with the Mafia but it may draw some suspicion, people may suspect me and im sure the Mafia are laughing out loud at your accusations as it draws attention away from them, if we are unwise in our next voting and we lose yet another Townie we are in big trouble.
To be honest, I quite liked the twist Papa suggested for our residence. It makes the game seem more real, because it'd be more questionable really if the mafia were to infiltrate our town, while it looked like something out of The Truman Show. It adds a level of authenticity really.
On another point though, Minof's right. Tomorrow we really need to concentrate and put our heads together because losing another townie would be tragic, especially after the mafia plan to kill one of us, to then lynch another of our own would leave us in an incredibly difficult situation to overcome. We can't afford another slip up. Maybe Papa was right afterall when he said those who were avoiding discussing matters with us were trying to slide by unnoticed? I took this as a sign of trying to deflect attention away from Papa himself, but we now all know Papa was one of us, so he may have been right all along with his decision?

I think the day time should start at midnight, unless you let it run from 18:00 to midnight the NEXT day. To save confusion, just have the daytime always running between the same 2 times, the same time as the 1st round.

I don't think it matters too much to be honest when you start Day 2, because we'll all be talking anyway. From what has happened so far, we'll probably be taking our time and trying to work out a strategy to identify the mafia member so it's not as if we'll be voting immediately anyway. Might be best to let us discuss what we're going to do next straight after the announcement? Keep the ball rolling so to speak and let the posts flow, and keep the format throughout. Gives everyone of us in the town more time to voice our thoughts, especially since a couple weren't on in Day 1.
EDIT: Where are our town brothers? We're close to a big announcement and there's little build up. We need some tension rising and some speculation, as word creeps through the grapevine.
Night 1 Summary
Fick is walking back from the shops. As he goes through the alley (which is a shortcut that leads to his home), a man walks in front of him. Not looking for trouble, Fick decides to turn around and go the long way.
But before he can get out of the alley, he is cut off by another man. Some more guys come out from the shadows and surround Fick.
Knowing where his fate lies, Fick swings and hits one square in the mouth. He goes for another, but before he can make contact he is attacked from behind and knocked to his feet. The group then viciously stomps on him, crushing his ribcage.
Fick's demise comes when one of the member's leaps high into the sky and comes down at rapid speed with a double foot stomp straight onto Fick's head.
The mafia leaves, with a job well done.
Night Conclusion:

The mafia will target anyone of us from the town folk, active or not active, because as mafia they know who makes up the outfit of the town and their own mafia (as stated in the rules). It is only us town folk who don't know who makes up what side. That's why it's beneficial for us to post more, because we might be able to gauge the situation and potentially spot weaknesses in the stories and thoughts of our 'supposed' own community.

Well lads just havin a read through here and went checkin out how it works, I noticed roles were supposed to be given out ie. cop, doctor and haven't been.
I propose giving me the job of the untouchable detective, two townies dead and no ones any closer to cracking the case. Each day under the townies supervision i'l investigate one member and find out if hes in the mafia :ninja:

Anyway townies, who do we think has been suspicious so far, or more to the point, who hasn't been suspicious enough??

Laughin man brother, people have seemingly been struggling with the fact that there are two sides, let alone adding more roles into this. :lol: It's genuinely quite simple, there was a link I think Joel posted in the original discussion thread with an example of how the game works step by step, it was incredibly simple in fact.
As for getting back to the game. It might be best to just start looking at those not actually discussing matters, because there would be no thread if everyone didn't post. It's nice to have some activity at least.

I am going out on a limb here with this statement and it's sure to anger the people I name, this in turn will result in me swimming with the fishes.
If history has taught us anything we know that it has a habit of repeating itself, that said the ADMINISTRATION on here have always held a track record of banding together when it comes to having a laugh off the forum members, so taking the number factors into consideration we are dealing with 15 players in which at least 5 are going to be Mafia.
Hunter and Phatts, the game is up.
For the record I vote Dundon's to be protected by the Doctor, otherwise it's a pair of lead boots for sure and the one man who can fight the power will be banished from the game. A clear flaw in the way we have set up this game in particular.

If Phatmann and Hunter, the admins, are mafia members, why did they choose to get rid of Fick, a mod? Surely the mods would be allies of the admins?

If as admins we wanted to get one over on the other forum members, trust me, Mafia Wars would not be how it's done. First of all, it'd be something unexpected (whereas several people already have mentioned the admin/mod theory), and secondly I've been wanting to prank the members of this board for a while now but no one has been able to think of anything quite as epic as Haribo's homosexuality or Zyg's infamous kidnapping.
Trust me Dundon's, as a brother, a fellow dG, I am not a mafia member. The reason for my frequent posting is simply because I'm not at uni frequently and I have time off, plus it's genuinely enjoyable to play this Mafia Wars game. It's nice to see the site back on the up I believe with more regular posters in the general section and PES section too. We just need to keep the ball rolling, and Mafia Wars is proving quality.
I'm not sure what to make of your role though Dundizzle. As Phatmann Scoop said before, you of all people have aided the revolutions against authority and power for as long as this site has been going, and now all of a sudden when we're in a predicament in which the power and mafia have to be identified and lynched you're suddenly very silent. It is interesting to say the least.

Lets say for arguments sake your theory is correct that fick sacrificed himself as a mod to deflate the argument of the admins reigning mafia power. That would be impossible considering the mafia have to take out a member from the town, and not one of their own.

I did not vote because I was uncertain, on the other hand you did vote which would indicate that you were more certain at least than I was, this would lead me from an outside point of view to assume that "Dundon's" is unaware of the situation and those who voted were more "in the know".
Had I been Mafia than I would of jumped straight on the band wagon and eliminated the Town member.
If my people are to stand any chance of turning the tide we NEED the cop/Doctor option to be made available, otherwise we're fighting a loosing battle.
Also to add to that I will volunteer to go first to be tested by the Cop to prove I am town for anyone that doubts that I am telling the truth.
But to answer your question, Fick would of been kept completely in the dark, he did not know he was to be the lamb.

That's fine with me, make Laughinman the full time cop, the way it works is so simple it's a sin not to have it in the game. We all basically post the name of the person we want investigated and at the end of the Day the person who's name is posted the most is looked into, Laughinmans job is to PM the Mod to find out if he's Mafia or not, he then returns back and posts up the answer for the town members.
Simple and necessary part of the game.
Looking at all the players roles in general there's really only 3 you need to have, the rest are optional if you want to really dig deep. The Cop, The Doctor and the Godfather have major roles from what I've been reading.
As mentioned before, we've enough people struggling to understand that there is even two sides, as well as a day and night period. I know we're dealing with retards, but it is what it is. Adding cops, doctors and whatnot, especially after we've already started, and doing so informally without the moderation of Joel, it would just make 'this' V1 in particular more difficult to follow for those already retarded.
However for those who doubt my authenticity as a townie, feel free to hang me, I'm prepared to die in order for the rest of the town to reflect upon themselves to come at identifying the mafia members from a different angle. As far as I'm concerned everyone is a suspect, maybe your recent posts have helped your cause then again they might have the opposite effect, time will tell.
All I know is I'm a townie and I'm in the business of sorting this mess out for the good of my people. If you are what you say you are then you should have nothing to worry about, on the other hand there is still a full team of Mafia members knocking about and without a cop we will never be sure who the innocent are because this is the nature of the game we setup.
Joel needs a lil re think about his options, those who understand will comply, those who don't will not notice what's going on.
This war has only just begun.
The game would be fine mostly if people posted. It's when people post that weaknesses may be found and inconsistencies arise. However with only maybe up to two thirds of participants posting, it's difficult to actually gauge the situation apart from simply suggesting "those who aren't posting are likely to be guilty as to not arouse obvious weaknesses, however they may be scared to be noticed by the mafia". Either way it's a pointless strategy as we won't win without banding together and trying to really identify the mafia members.
The only thing I'm against putting in roles, is that the game has already begun and two have died already.
I would have prefered the game to just continue to run as it is (as it is the first time we PESGaming is doing it and has already begun), but if no one seems to have a problem with it, then I will add some roles for the townies.
And Laughin Man, I don't really mind you posting in here, but you're not actually in the game, so you won't be the cop/doctor or anything to that matter.

The game could go on for a few weeks and all I'm saying is that it needs a little bit of spice to keep it ticking over, but if people want to just play as is then I am willing to drop the suggestions. The last thing I want to is wreck heads and keep going on about the same thing. :)
All you need is 3 Joel, keep it simple like but at the same time get people used to the idea of "roles"
Cop (tallies the total votes and asks mod true identities)
Doctor (Protects 1 person with the most votes from a Mafia kill)
Godfather (Leader of the Mafia and can't be identified as Mafia member by cop)
