The town with no Sheriff or apparent legal system enlisted the services of Allan Pinkerton and his Pinkerton Detective Agency to keep law and order. Paid for in gold, the Pinkertons keep the streets clear of the Daltons ... and any other bandit stepping into town.

Aye, I was signing on myself for a while, all the mines were shut down and with the drought and all work was hard to come by, caught a break around xmas when a big Buffalo Rancher was short handed because of the plague and I stepped in and we didnt lose a single Buffalo. You can challenge someone to a duel. Its a fairly simple concept mind, my missus will choose 3 numbers each under 10 for each member. I'll double the total, times by 7 and then divide by 3. The winner is the player with the Lowest total.
No-one is killed but just wounded and fair game to be sneered at by the other Texans.
You can only make one challenge a day and it must be by PM and the other member has to accept. It will be announced in the thread if the other player has declined. The big girl's blouse! :D

Young Emmett Dalton broke off from his brothers and took the beaten path down to the abandoned mine beyond the ridge. He had just loosened his chaps when he heard a rustle in the bushes. He leapt up startled and cocked his Peacemaker.
‘Who goes there?’
‘Go easy Em’, you always been too easy on that trigger.’
‘Billy, is that you? Well I never! Billy ‘Bam-Bam’ Bammers, in the flesh! I ain’t seen you since you rode with us down in Silver City. Where you been?’
Bammers took his old friend’s hand and smiled.
‘I’ve been all over friend – Indian territory, Arkansas, Oklahoma. Rode with the Cuntsboro’ Creek boys for a while, those boys can really go some. Heard about Grat, the son-of-a-bitch must have nine lives!’
‘Christ word does travel fast. Couldn’t believe it myself Bill, I tell you I thought that was it. When we found him in that riverbed I damn well thought he done sold his soul to the devil himself to escape those shackles! But what brings you to ol’ Kansas again? You know there’s always a place for you alongside us boys.’
‘I got no plans, just passin' thru. What you got in the pack there?’
‘This? Oh you didn’t hear about our latest job? We held up one of the Southern Pacific trains headed to Arkansas – this here is my share. Must be damn near two grand! The snatch and liquor is on me tonight!’
Bammers quickly drew his colt and cocked it.
‘Give me the bag Em’.’
‘What you doin’ Bill?’
‘Man’s got to look after hisself, Em. I needs that loot.’
‘You no good son of a bitch. I damn saved your ass in Silver City. I ain’t gonna give you noth...’
Bammers stepped forward and cracked Emmett in the head with his sidearm, knocking home cold. He robbed him and made off down the dusty path for the local town of Shafton.
Once there, he ventured into the saloon and engaged in all manners of bawdyness for hours on end. Whores and liquor were the order of the day. Come midnight, Bammers slumped at the piano in the corner, regaling the locals with a crude verse of ‘Streets of Laredo’.
As the frolics drew to a close, a horse and rider crashed through the window. It was the immortal Grat Dalton himself, Winchester 1886 in hand.
‘Where’s the damn popinjay who robbed ma brother?!’
Bammers stumbled towards the back but was quickly lassoed and dragged to a table.
‘Come on Grat, we were rode together, I was a fool, I didn’t mean anything by it. Don’t kill me please!’
Em stepped forward and drove a knife through Bammers’ hand. His cries of agony filled the room, but no one was coming to his aid.
‘You gonna pay boy. No one crosses the Dalton gang and lives.’
Bammers was beaten across the bar, smashed with bottles and thrown over the balcony through the grand piano. But the Dalton boys, accompanied by George Newcomb and Charley Pierce, were only just getting started. A bloodied drunken mess, Bammers was hogtied, attached to Em’s horse, and dragged twice around the town. He was then hastily lynched to near death. As he gasped for air he begged once again for mercy, but mercy had long left town. Emmett dragged his spurs across Bammers’ eyes, blinding him. Bammers’ legs were blown off with dynamite, before his wretched body was propped up against the saloon doors and sent crashing through by a close-range shotgun blast from Bob Dalton himself. Still breathing, Bammers was dragged to the local railroad and strapped to it. A plethora of wildlife were soon drawn to the scene, with coyotes taking his arms and wolves tearing out his throat. As the vultures gathered to pluck of his eyes and innards, the 06:01 to Tulsa arrived to shatter his body and sever his head. A band of local cannibals pounced upon his remains, but fortunately the Dalton Gang later pursued and burned them alive for the fuck of it.
Conclusion:
The Dalton Gang killed Bammers.
Bammers was a Texan.

Damn, bit of a shitter to lose a Texan on the first night but at least it seems there is only one 'mafia' this time and there doesn't appear to be a serial killer either. Perhaps Sminky has toned down the amount of roles in play considering how mad the last game was. :D

What also sucks, is that we don't know whether there is a third party yet. So Day 2 is going to be hard.

I think you were killed early as you're a clear threat. That doesn't give me much to go on. Except that the murderer must have come from your past alliances. They know how you work and they know that you know how they would act if they were guilty - if they were a member of the Dalton Gang. So eliminating you early was a must.

Interesting theory but that would mean that the mafia can only kill on alternate days and I don't think that would happen. Perhaps there is a serial killer/vigilante/assassin type role but they can only kill every second day? Probably more likely that the person with the role forgot to/didn't have time to submit his choice due to the football and such over the past two days. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't think that is something we can guarantee. We know the Dalton Gang is the main antagonist of the story. So they will not have their killing abilities limited. However, they may be another mafia/bandit group who are only allowed to kill on a certain night. Maybe they have more perks or something? We don't know, but it'd be foolish and dangerous to rule it out right now.
Maybe Desmond has ancestors in the 1870s.

The third party could be Red Indians, I suppose. Perhaps the Dalton Gang will have the ability to kill both Texans and Injins; and the Injins can only kill (or defend themselves against) the Dalton Gang.
Or maybe even throw some Inuits into the mix.

I think we certainly need a very subtle cop/sheriff (ie more subtle than I was :laugh:) to help us out with this one. There wasn't much discussion in the first day, we having nothing to go on. Losing Bammers is a big blow, because he's always a strong player, who's seen the game from both sides so he knows what tactics are involved.
With it being a Wild West theme, the game could be completely different than the last few mafia wars with a whole new set of roles entirely.

Well.... in the last game, Sminky specifically mentioned when he couldn't reveal the person's role. So I'm willing to believe that Bammers is a straight Texan. I think the fact that Bammers robbed the Dalton gang was just a bit of creativity from Barn, so I'm not looking into that at all.

There is a problem with coming up with reasons why they wanted to kill Bammers. They WANT you to be pondering who could have lynched him, so that an innocent person is implicated, when in actual fact, it would be a bad idea for anyone who has had any previous connection to Bammers, to lynch him. It does all depend on how clever the mafia.
Doesn't matter if they want us to ponder or not, we're going to do that regardless. We're going to do that for every death.
You say that it would be bad for anyone with past ties with Bammers to kill him, but since we have been playing this game, no one has ever looked to friendly alliances as a reason to kill someone. It has always been whether the mafia had "bad blood" with the victim.
Of course there is a chance that the mafia are inexperienced. Going after someone so big is a huge risk and could have backfired.
But at the moment, I'm more looking at the people who have been on his side. We always say they won't do it, because people would look in their direction. But maybe that's what they think we will continue to say.
There's no doubting that Bam-Bam was a heavy hitter (:joel:) in the Wars. It is completely feasible that he's been taken out on the basis of his ability to sniff out the bad guys, and his consistency in doing so. I agree with Joel at the moment in that it is a smart move to look over Bammer's past groups and the members within them. Of course it might not stump up much, and eventually lead to very little, but right now, on day 2, it is probably the best approach for now.
Last game I was a member of the cult - sort of. Never actually conversed with the cult though since I was killed a pretty much instantly by a lunatic role during the day (can't remember who killed me - I'll look back). Bammers has been the best player of MW. He's dangerous whichever side he's on so whoever killed him obviously thought it would be one less threat to them winning.
I think one of our best approaches for this one is to look at who's been relatively active in previous MWs, as this seems to be the killing of an experienced gang, who know the threats and are possibly out to eliminate them early.
It might be wise for us to draw up a shortlist so to speak of experienced MW players, obviously exclusing those who maybe just participated in 1 MW with little posting, does everyone agree?

1. I really don't know what you mean with this point, are you insinuating that Bammers would commit a robbery during the day? I wasn't hoping everyone would go narrowly looking for clues either as I imagine any roles in the game are possibly completely made-up by Sminky like he did with many last War. I mentioned it in the hope that Barn or Sminky would reply to the post confirming it was just creative license. It was worth mentioning don't you think to get confirmation as to what it might have been? We're so early on right now that we need to try and work the angles and find/rule out anything that may be relevant/irrelevant.

2. There is that, but so much happened last game that I genuinely lost track. For example, it was Bammers who inducted me into the cult, but he wasn't the cult leader right? I didn't even know that was possible. Everything in the last game I didn't particularly follow too well, so forgive me for overlooking something like that. Could there not be a role that when implemented, blocks us from seeing what Bam-Bam's role or special ability was, that would also prevent Sminky from disclosing it - including saying 'this role cannot be displayed yet'?
I don't like the angle that you're coming at me with here, it's quite aggressive and confrontational, but I guess if that's the best way to try and weed people out, then so be it.

So what I want to know, without trying to sound arrogant, is why should you be trusted based on a tactic you was so persistent with, on the first day of the last mafia game?

OK I did, and I still think that is the best tactic for the mafia.
You don't have to be a brain surgeon to see that bammers was a major sniffer dog in the previous game, he's an obvious traget for anyone with half a brain.
EDIT: I'm sure anyone in our previous mafia family would want rid of bammers first if they have a choice, or do you disagree?
