View Full Version : Queen
Just listening to Bicycle Race, and it makes me sad that very few bands get even close to how awesome they were when Freddie was alive.
Probably the only band (with Freddie alive) I would have paid SILLY money to see live.
So, what are your favourite Queen songs? Or do you generally not like (if possible) them?
Ah, good choice, my favourite Queen tracks are Innuendo, One Vision & Breakthrough.
EDIT: Remember the Live Aid performance? Queen owned the stage.
Big fan of Queen. One of my all time favourite songs is Seven Seas of Rye (and not just for the outro)
The later stuff like Radio Gaga & Breakthrough were a bit average, but most of Queen
music has a timeless quality.
I had a feeling, as you're one of the older members on here, that you'd post first.
Bicycle Race, Don't Stop Me Now, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Bohemian Rapsody to name but a few.
Just to show my age, I remember being a kid and dancing around in our front room to The Greatest Hits I&II (III was a good 5 or 6 years off being released at the time!). Flash (GHII) had a skip in it, so I could never really listen to it in full :(

I quite liked Breakthrough, thought it was one of the better tracks of their later stuff. Quite liked Scandal as well, it was definitely pop fodder but still damn catchy.
Oh, and I used to love Erasure, and The Pet Shop Boys.
Guess that kinda makes me gayer than Freddie!
Nowt wrong with the Pet Shop Boys, they went a bit off the boil a couple of times but usually returned with a belting track. Domino Dancing is a cracking tune and Left to my own devices is a classic as well.
Don't Stop Me Now
Good call. Freddie's solo on the outro to that song is just too damn short. I really do hate fade-outs.
Other classics I rate of theirs are: Great King Rat, I'm in Love with My Car, All Dead, All Dead and Play the Game. Oh, and all of Flash Gordon!

Ah, good shout, Play the game ...
I used to like "Fat Bottomed Girls" ... looking at my missus I guess I still do :joel:

Top of the list (in no particular order) for me are: Keep Yourself Alive, Death on Two Legs, Don't Stop Me Now, Another One Bites the Dust and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Queen are one of my favourite bands man. Really epic music.
Don't stop me now, Killer Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls. I like a lot of the bluesy stuff.

I don't mind Queen but have always found them intensely overrated.
And for the record, Paul Rodgers is better than Freddie Mercury. Hell, Free were better than Queen.
Get out Barn you massive homo, Paul Rogers thought he was cooler than he is.
Freddie did as well but the only difference was that Freddie was actually cool.
Up there as my favourite band. Freddie's the greatest of all time as far as I'm concerned. All the mainstream tracks of Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, Don't Stop Me Now, Bohemian Rhapsody, One Vision, Under Pressure, A Kind of Magic etc. Love them all.
And we can't forget Body Language. :serial:
Performed I Want It All at college once, great times. From a guitarist's point of view, that's probably my favourite of theirs. No one's mentioned The Show Must Go On yet, that's up there for me too.

Oh the irony. The only thing Mercury did better was suck cock. By the 80s Queen were already fairly faggy, but Rodgers was cool as fuck back in the day. Mercury was a charismatic frontman no doubt but Queen lacked that hard edge and a 'cool' factor.
Name 3 better Queen songs than All Right Now, Wishing Well, and My Brother Jake? It's impossible.

Quite the contrary Barndoor, not impossible, just subjective ;)
Did Free write possibly the greatest song of all time, in Bohemian Rhapsody? I don't think so.
There are countless songs from Queen that are better than what those bunch of muppets have made. I take it those three songs you mentioned are Free's best songs, in your opinion? Are they the only songs they've made that ever broke the top 40? ;)

Muppet's? Interesting opinion, but way off the mark.
You should have stopped at 'subjective' as you were making sense up to that point.
While Seven Seas of Rye is easily in my top 10 fave songs, I'd still rather listen to Free, Tull, Zepp, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Zappa and many others before Queen.
Like you said, it's all subjective.

Bohemian Rhapsody is overrated bollocks. And since when did chart positions ever reflect the worth of a song? You've really showed yourself up as an ignorant cunt there Dale - by that token all of Led Zeppelin's songs would be shit.
The problem with Queen is that their music does not stand up well upon constant plays. Killer Queen and Who Wants To Live Forever are about the only ones I genuinely still like, the rest have just been played to death. Queen -at least by the late 70s - made mainstream music for the masses, nothing more.
I'm joking you old bastards. My original point was that it is subjective, and that stands, obviously.
Fact is I love Queen, and I think they were the best at doing what they did.

What's that, rimming men?
Nope, being better than Free ;)
