It looks like we will have a PES 2011.5

shaun7

A positive thing I noticed is that the movement is better. Look at that lofted ball and then the volley. That wasn't possible in pes 11 because you couldn't hit a volley no matter what if you were close to the keeper.
And although the animations are bad, it looks smoother than pes 11 which is always good. Oh and you can play slow ground passes too.

Waiting to see more and again, I won't judge before I see the demo or at least more videos especially gameplay.

I hope the improve the sound, the crowd and commentary has been god awful for years now, When you score a goal even at home it's like "Yehh, yawwn, whatever"

I'm guessing you overlooked how in this trailer the right back who could have intercepted the lofted through ball just stood there stiff like a lemon and let the ball go by.

It's difficult to say whether it's even PES 2011.5, it's probably more like PES 2010.5 to be honest. I mean, the video opened up with Ashley Cole pinging a 40 yard pass comfortably...with his right foot.

shaun7
03-06-2011, 10:16
^Well, the same thing happened in pes 11 and to be honest a pes 10 .5 is way to harsh becuase that game was a 125 mph dribbling everyone with high seed players not a slow paced tactical game. So it's for sure not pes 10.5.

But a pes 11.5,I would say so, yeah from the trailer.
Oh and I try to stay positive before E3 because even though pes and fifa aren't on my most watch list in E3, I still want a football game for another year, because I like football.

So I try to stay positive.

Believe me when I say I'm a hugely optimistic person, and a very positive one as well, I guess PES and football games is just one area where I've lost all hope.

We need 2K to develop a football game, desperately.

shaun7
03-06-2011, 10:35
Well a new developer would bring competition so it will always be good. :)
As you see, I also lost the excitement I had for football games but I still try to judge after gameplay videos or demos especially.

So again, I'll wait and see. :)

i'm still troubled by the lack of vertical 1-2s. all the attacking movement is forwards, never ever sideways. it's like SF4, compared to something like tekken or virtua fighter.

Ali

The footage doesn't look too different from this year's game, unfortunately. The animations still look stiff and unrealistic. I'll remain slightly hopeful, but that will fade if they continue to produce footage like this.

shaun7
03-06-2011, 13:14
^Animations are a priority afterall in pes, but there were other annoyances in pes 11 much worse, like defenders catching up and attackers slowing down randomly and response times on volleys.

Anyway I agree that they should put propert gameplay footages because those are 1 time attacks and doesn't show much.

I know there's more problems in PES, like the ones you mentioned, but it's hard to notice those from that short footage.

I saw a video on IGN with some mo-cap footage. WHO are they getting to do the bloody mo-cap? Must be the worst footballer ever!

I can't help but to think that this 2012 installment will be nothing more than the errors/bug-corrected version of 2011. PR will do its best to sell us all that stuff as new. Maybe they even put some nice old but lately removed options like running directions of players back in and do some other nice UI style so all looks "new" again. But the principle behind it will still fail to satisfy real PES vets as they prove with every year of next-gen installments that they make 2 steps back when they do 1 forward. And still I must repeat: This looks like 2011 without the partly gamebreaking errors of the original 2011 we are hanging around with now.

And to be honest: If this is all they change from what I can see, why not bring an update to 2011 optimizing the AI? It would be possible, I'm sure. They just don't want because they want to make money with this "full version update".

I also hope they remove those two strange ability cards for sprinting and turning like crazy (Arshavin, Messi, CR7, Elia, Capel etc.) or at least modify them that it is less obvious compared to other top speed guys like Agüro, Pato and others. It's just toooooo obvious. Generally I'd like to see a real difference between stats of players but in a fluid transition, not like now. This also applies to defenders who should stick realistically to what top speed they can really have. A defender is too slow? Have a better AI positioning them accordingly to their defence skill and it will always be up to the player to fail or succeed. Like now it's just ridiculous. Konami integrated another error in gameplay to cover another error here... And it seems they just go on with that. Just to avoid the unavoidable: Redesign the game and create a new future-proof engine!

Ghahahaha aren't you the one who was arguing with me about the shity gameplay? Yes you are...
I don't know if you remember when you told me that I was stupid and imature because I had judged a game by a single video that soon.

The only thing that irritates me is pes 2008,09 and 10 should have been much better and obviously this effected future games.

PES 2011 was an immensely deep game and took a long time to fully discover and master, I hope pes 2012 has a tutorial for the people who bitch and moan about the game before they understand it.

Manual cursor change must be improved, this is crucial for me and konami need to cut down on some silly balancing acts and illogical flaws that were not present in PES 2.

Agree with most of the points made here... at the moment though this is a new game engine on the previous & in 2010 the game speed was insane! even now 2011 its still too fast when on -2

I think thats just a trailer and the rest will come nearer september when game testers get their hands on the pre release, also it was nice to see pes take the mantle back from Fifa this season as Fifa 11 was pure sh*t, so I would imagine Pes developers would wanna keep the fans onside and add to the game from reports in the gaming community.....

Tbh I never played the game on different speeds, always sticked to 0. Yes, maybe it's fast but it's partly an important aspect to me because I find that it reflects your capabilities as a video gamer when u r able to press the right buttons with the right timing which is requested from one at this speed (which I feel as normal).
Rest comes in September you say. Sure it will. But generally I doubt that Konami will put enough effort to correct the little glitches which have such a huge impact on gameplay like cursor switching (most annoying of all) and the online lag which has been around quite a while now (since 200x versions). Why I doubt about that? EA already stated that their new engine features will not be ported to PC which means that the PC version of FIFA will be outdated by a year again and KONAMI is able to and so probably will not integrate all the features that they have in their minds. Not because it's not possible to do in time but mostly because they seem to split improvements consciously to have sth. already in the pocket for the next year again. I wonder why I got such an opinion of my beloved MGS, Contra, Castlevania-developer but somehow one can read the evolution of PES over the years quite well and it looks to me like that. As long as FIFA won't be up to date on PC, PES is a lone fighter in the football field on PC without any real competition which FIFA should be to force a real development.

I'd be much happier, because I like 2011 very much too (though I liked all other previous games in their way too), if they would just release a new game engine every 3 - 5 years and bring updates for one game. Making the game more modular in a convenient manner not only for modders stretching over the whole field of possible database sets (kits, teams, players, leagues, stadiums, boots, whatever individual aspects). They correct the AI, maybe give us some more freedom with individual player runs back (which was so cool) so matches feel really different at least which it doesn't too much right now because of stupid AI. Then they could make their money with unnecessary low-price (max. 2,50 bucks i.e. for 10 pairs of boots for example) DLCs of gadgets and a quarterly or half-a-year update of kits, rosters and other important realism for 10 bucks to be up to date. Valve just made it right with their Source engine. It's so old already but people still play the games on it because they are firstly very good gameplay-wise because the engine provides this experience and secondly they build it so modular that they were able to enhance it over the years without any problems (except the downloading). For all these modules they should make options to disable additional content or not so people can easily stick to their original game if they want, play their MLs the way they started them etc. or be up to date and play online with the majority of other players. I think Konami could make this. All players get all DLC automatically to get the same representation a players wants to have of his team (new kits, player individualizations, etc) but those who didn't pay cannot mess with the application of unpaid DLC (locked stuff). THAT would make things really different when you find teams of players all wearing the boots you wanted for them, one has a Gattuso with short, another with his original hair etc. Stat-wise players must stay the same and base on the same database of course. But visually it would really matter. Maybe they could just start with the individual team emblems you edited for MLO, not just the name. Those files are so small to be transferred, other games have individual decals and sprays which everybody can see too.....
This would mean they must upgrade their online capabilities on their hosting side dramatically I think but it would be an investment towards the future as KONAMI seems to rely on PES as a solid product for their yearly calculation of income. Transforming PES into a transient, ever developing online-game would benefit KONAMI really much I think. They'd have a constant stream of little incomes via DLCs and these regular big updates and wouldn't be forced to sell their really good game underpriced after 3 months of release. FIFA I never see on budget price for half, 3/4s a year, shortly before the next sequel is released. They just don't need it, it seems. I don't want to make offline gamers angry with my statement here, offline is just so simple from the scratch that I leave it untouched with any ideas from me now. This year it got so quickly obvious that I don't have fun out of the AI, ML/BAL bugs and illogics that I just played online all the time...

So in summary what's most annoying to me is the fact that KONAMI thinks releasing a cheesy update every 3 - 6 months with INCOMPLETE updates of season development curves of players, incomplete kit update, incomplete roster updates would be enough which it isn't. I want a footy game which is always up to date. They got the good gameplay mechanics but this game already feels like last year because it feels outdated data wise though it is called 2011 which we have now. I find it a bit ridiculous... I can't remember how many people bought Wilshere before March cuz everybody expected him to be updated to a useful player (he has 93 technique so basically he has the ground for anything else) but they left him completely untouched even though he kicked asses in EPL. This was the biggest indicator to me that KONAMI didn't really mind. Instead we got sooo many boots which I never would want to have. Others who need it, can buy it I find. You get my points, I think...

Every year Konami pulls this on us all.

A video trailer of football which has nothing to do with its current game play....but you all fall for it. Everyone starts to dissect what is good and what is bad. I come here every year to say the same thing.

It is just a fucking Promo video which contains no actual game play.

People should bare in mind that most of the game play footage will be from professional level so it would be difficult to judge how strong the game actually is yet. I can't really tell much difference between this and PES 2011 if any. But as long as it actually all works this year that's all that matters.

Animations could remain at 2011's levels if they got rid of the player's inability to clear a ball with a man in front of him, passing to the offside guy every time and several other really bloody annoying glitches.

When it works, 2011 is great.

I really hope players are more responsive this year, getting players to turn in recent games has been like trying to move planets. Entire galaxies have been formed and died in quicker times than it takes to get some players to control and turn. I know not all players are going to be brilliant, but if players like Baumann were that rubbish in real life they'd not get a contract in the first place.

shaun7
16-06-2011, 09:02
^Totally agree, the response kills the dribbling.
This is the reason why in pes 11 the defenders seem overpowered. The response sucks so you cannot use close control well enough. The individuality is there, but the response is diminishing this.

The other big thing I'd like to see is driven shot.

Chip shot, driven shot and placed shot options would make the game much more interesting.

I think everyone would like more control of what sort of shot they want the player to take, and its not like its difficult to programme the keepers to be able to cope. Goalkeepers must be the simplest players on the pitch to programme anyway.

shaun7
16-06-2011, 09:30
Huge yes to more user input. Pes is just still too automatic. I want much more freedom especially in the shooting and the direction of the shot. Then it would depend on the payer to place it better, shoot it harder and stuff like that. It can be a more of a semi assited like the passing in pes 11. It still depended on individuality but you give it the direction.

Exactly! More control is what I want. I want the play to place the ball when I tell him too, instead of him just deciding to blast it even though I CLEARLY told him to do a controlled shot. Also, I want to be able to chose whether he goes for a volley or header. I'm fed up of players doing a piddly little diving header when a volley would have been much more appropriate! They could employ a similar system to that what was used in the old Fifa games (Fifa 99 for example), when a header was done by holding the pass/shot button, and volley was done by double tapping the pass/shot button.

all about the timing in regards to volleys

Press shoot too early and you'll head, you've go to wait until almost the last second to volley.
