I always complain that PES is too fast... but this seems a bit slow to be honest.

You know, some arabian coders have completely tweaked PES2011 AI, and it looks very much like this video...

Do you think so ? why?

nothing great about this game, in 2012 konami will make minor update on the 2011 cursed version. the game lost all the freedom that we had in the early 2000's. now its more like playing science fiction soccer: you buy a soccer simulation game, you get monkeys running after a ball in full speed for 90 minutes without getting tired, also most monkeys in defensive positions have a hobby to run away from the ball. congratulations konami i hope you get broke this year

I was lucky enough to play it on Saturday and my impressions will be here later today>>>

http://www.onlyproevolutions.com/2011/07/ope-pes-2012-playtest-impressions.html

When I was there at 1st glance it looks like 2011 but its only when you pick up the pad and play you realise that no only are the graphics better you see the animations have improved but most importantly its how the game feels..

I think even official videos from Konami wont do the game jusice as people need to actually play it to understand how it plays.

^NICE TO HEAR. PES is suppose to give you that feeling when you pick up the controller and lay it and by the looks of it, that's back in full.:) Hope it's true. I will still wait for the demo though and pass my judgements there.

Looks excellent, very slick, passing looks crisper, would need to play the demo before I said if it was an improvement. By looking at it though, seems a lot of work has been put into the movement of the players.

Trust me..

when i was watching my 1st game.. I was only a spectator and it looked ok at 1st glymps but I couldnt see any major differences but when I played it I was like WOW!!

People dont give AI development much credit because AI is not easily visible like graphics or sound but I wouldnt be surprised if a big chunk of Konami's development time has gone just on the AI aspect.

I think its all about a DEMO.. I hope we can get one soon :)

How noticable was the scripting?

Daymos
18-07-2011, 17:41
It depends on what you class as scripting..

When you play, the CPU does what you want it to do.. (im not sure how Konami have managed to get the AI to know what you want to do 2 seconds before you actually do it)

Ali_BWFC
18-07-2011, 18:13
Well, you could you spot the opposition goals coming a mile away? etc etc

That's what I'd class as scripting. I'm usually pretty good at spotting when there's gonna be a goal. It took me a while with PES 2011, but once it clicked, it became pretty obvious.

You can still spot goals a mile away when you play against human players.

It actually looks good, I'm pleased to say. It would've been nice for them to show the replays, so we could see the movement in more detail.

That's good to hear. Though, this is how I initially felt playing PES 2011..... boy how that changed! I'll try to go into PES 2012 with a fresh frame of mind, though I know I'll be looking for evidence of the scripting.

^Fact is, scripting will be in every football game. It's a matter of how well the AI hides it.

I know. I just want them to hide it better. Right now, the scripting in the game is as subtle as a man running naked down the street singing "look at me!" in a high pitched voice!

shaun7

^That's a bit exaggerated ;) But I get what you're saying. Sometimes the way the AI scores is just plain ridicules :)

I must say it's looking good at this early stage, i must also comment on the 1st released video of "that other game" that i watched. Two words come to mind 1: crowded 2: AI pressure. Man they never seem to learn over there.

One on one, I found it had the right balance.. sometimes you could weave in between 1 or 2 defenders and you would expect to be tackled but unless your opponent presses the tackle button they wont get the ball..

Defenders cant just bump into you and get the ball.. this time if you stumple you can recover and keep the ball ball and dribble away out of trouble.

When defending, if your confident with your timing and positioning, you can do a hard crunching slide tackle and win the ball and the ref lets you play on as long as you get the ball 1st.. (in PES2011 the ref would have blown the whistle for a free kick).

I read your article Daymos, looks good to me as it seems Konami have improved the area I personally wanted to see better: AI team mates, difficulty, passing etc.

I'm not sure how much I can take from the gameplay vid as the two players playing were pretty hopeless. What we need to see is an AI vs a strong human player match to show how much the AI can take and dish out.

As far as scripting, I can live with scripting that mean your team might play badly, that is part of football, but scripting that means you definitely WILL lose is a big
N. O.

All in all, I'm still quite excited, just interested to see what the ML will be like this year. This is always the last thing to be mentioned if at all so a few weeks to wait yet I think.

the camera was fine for me but Im ok with the camera's so may not be the best to ask.

I didnt play with the camera's so not sure what view it was on.. It kind of looked wide.

As for you wasting money on PES2011, im not sure if you will like PES2012.

I liked PES2011 and this new game is built with a similar engine but with refined graphics, animation, physics and AI.

I think people who dislike PES2011 may play this for 2 minutes and then complain.. I dont know??

I think its best for people to try the demo themself and hopefully if people like it.. everyones happy.

Hey,

Yes your right.. hopefully we will see how the game plays against the CPU.

There was a guy on Saturday who go there early and he said he played the CPU and was happy with it.

Like I was saying to the guy before.. the ultimate review is in our own hands and eyes.

PS the videos dont really show anything much.. its a shame the video cant show you how the CPU knows what you want to do or who you want to pass to, 2 seconds before you actually do it..

Its great that its a part of the game now, and Konami should get credit for it, perhaps it shows the AI moving towards more a individual level rather than a collective team AI. That would be great from my point of view, as it makes the game tactically so much deeper. I'd love to see the mental characteristics from Football Manager added to the AI so players act more individually. Glen Johnson will get caught out of position or Inzagi will spend most of the game offside for example.

Only about 80 days to go. Not long now....

I remember wen PES used to make players play like their real life counterpart... I havent got full proof yet but I get the feeling that real life chracteristics are back.

How much I dont know.. the palyers I was using felt like who they were in real life, when I was France, Sagna and Evra were overlapping as they do and were able to weave in and out of a few players before the cross.. (it could have been me from the way I was controlling them).

Another thing with the AI against the CPU.. they have personality and will use skills against you and not be as robotic and predictable.

Its early days yet but im confident the games against the CPU will be special.. I hope!!

One thing I'd like to know if you can reveal, is if the tactics arrows for player runs or something similar is back this year? I hated it just being left to mentality, nothing worse than your DMF wandering off.

not sure if youve seen the News on WENB, you can control a second player with the right stick when your 1st player has the ball.

so in theory if a DM is wandering off.. you can control him and directing him back :)

It also means theres even new ways to atttack now.

Hi Damos, I know your a champion in the editing side of PES. any word on if they have improved that side of PES, for example improved stadium editor, more leagues etc? Also keen to get your impressions on the managers we've seen waving their arms around on the side line - do you think we are going to be able to edit managers appearances? Cheers

And if it is how does it compare vs players who don't have it, is it still way overpowered in the sense that the guy who has it is like 3 times more agile than the guy without?

I just hope pes 2012 isn't dumbed down from 2011, I don't want every player to have instant first touch and glide around the pitch, although buggy at times I loved how intricate the first touch options could be in pes 2011.

Shooting seems to have a bit more variation and dip although it looks a tad floaty.

I'm also desperate to know if cursor change is fixed, I found semi assisted ok in pes 2011 but its not acceptable to have a dodgy cursor change in the year 2011, it irritates me that no playtesters have gone into depth about this unless I missed something.

I think KONAMI is going on the right direction for PES 2012 , they have smart moves such as second player control , or more active AI that can move with dummy runs , create more space for attackers and make alot of chances for us to score , also new defenders system , i think it will be promising .

Otherwise I don`t agree with KONAMI about what happened last year in PES 2011
because after the demo was great , and i played it , then i got shocked from the final version which i bought and simply it`s unplayable , i can`t understand , a company with a huge workers and they are making a football game for many years , they make a game like that in 2011 , looks like they let basketball players to test it before they sell it to us .

Konami should understand that , no graphics or some new animations or new videos can let us have a good game .

But the magic words to make a wonderful PES as i always say and say and say for years and nobody listen to me ;

1 - THE GAMEPLAY : What most attarct us to any game in the world is the GAMEPLAY , should be solid , smart AI , defenders knows what to do and in the right time , Goalkeepers , Referess , the gameplay should be more fluid , controlling the ball , giving more space to players so they can dribble , joggle , play with both feet .

Also , the point is not only attacking all the time , but the computer attcks in smart way and changing of plan in the whole game , such as Barca last year in PES 2011 , always attack from the left wing all the time with 2 players or 3 most , that is not right .

another issue also here , in PES gameplay ( also in FIFA ) the defenders play the ball from the back to the atatckers directly , the AI dosen`t have an option to play from defenders to midfield players then attackers , that also is not right .

as we are a good players and many of us play or watch real football , we like the gameplay to be more attractive , when we choose professional mode as example , we want to see the AI attack and attack and attack , that made us love PES in old days like PES 6 , we all like that , we love to have more space while playing the computer , the pace of the game will be enjoyable more if the AI is very smart and knows how to attack all the time , that is why we choose professional mode or higher so the gameplay can be more playable and fantastic .

2 - CONTROLLING THE BALL : the second magic word for PES that should focus on is controlling the ball , since PES 08 till PES 2011 we are suffering from controlling the ball , once i have the ball , i feel furstrated and i want to get rid of it quickely , that is not a football game should be , as a fotty players , we always like to play with both feet , recieve the ball and have it on the other foot then take one or 2 defenders ( such as Messi and C Ronaldo ) , but in past PES games , i don`t feel that , also the defender always comes from no where , and takes the ball , seems like the defender says : you don`t have the rights to dribble or joggle the ball , lol

do you want to know why many of PES players are playing FIFA more in recent years ? the answer is because the gameplay is fluid . ( in my opinion ) even i know that PES gameplay is more attarctive . and the second reason is ( 360 system ) dribbling and freedom to move the player and turn him at any direction i want anytime and ... anywhere , ( with the ball ) .

Fans don`t care while playing FIFA about licenses because players look all the same there and they look smaller than PES players on the game camera , they also don`t care about graphics most , but they care about ( freedom of moving the player with the ball to anywhere and passing one or 2 defenders easiley )

now you know KONAMI how to get all of us back to play PES again like old days ?

so these 2 major issues PES , GAMEPLAY AND CONTROLIING THE BALL , in my opinion , if PES focus on these 2 issues , no other footy game in the market can face PES , can you do that KONAMI ? i dought that but let`s hope we can find that in PES 2012 and i was wrong . :)

In the playtest speed merchant is in so it won't be removed from pes2012
