You really have to tailor it to what players you have. As posted at first 4-5-1 was great with patient passing around, but after getting good players i play now 4-3-3 and its great, but when i tried this with my weaker MLO team before, i got raped lol, so again look at how the players play and tweak and change to match their strengths and weakness. :)

5-4-1.
If you are versing a team that uses quick counter so on simple settings then go on out wide defensive

so this is defencively good, but can you win with this?

Most people play 4-2-4 and high line and tight pressing but you need a good team or it won't work. There is no point playing a defensive formation as you have no chance of scoring and won't get out of your own half. this formation is completely unrealistic but it works you don't really need a midfield to score just pump long balls up to fast players and strikers will often intercept it high up the pitch making it easy to score

I think 442 is best

yes, the forwards will be the first defence line.
i will try the 4-2-4 and see how things go.

4-4-2 (long balls or counter attacks) was great at the beginning when my team was weak. recently i was playing 4-5-1 and had some good results but still, i can't score more that 1 or 2 goals per match.

i saw some of the top player's profiles and saw some have average goal per match above 4 or 5.

so defenitely i will try the 4-2-4.

I play 4 1 3 2 and love it! Have played that way since day 1 and haven't looked back. My holding midfielder always has either the anchor or enforcer player card, this helps massively, I also offset my players slightly, playing my Cm slightly to the right and playing a deeper SS instead of 2 CF's - this helps me make nice triangles for passing and creates more space.

What fits better with the 4-1-3-2? Long balls? Quick counter?possesion?

I play balanced and possession. Passing game that cant still counter quickly if needed, also I play a CM with the pinpoint pass player card and he can dink chipped through balls in to my forwards if I'm struggling to break them down by passing alone.

I prefer either 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.

433 is by far the easiest to play for new players

I play 3-2-3-2
3(CB and CB and CB)-2(DMF & DMF)-3(OMF AND LMF RMF)-2(CF and SS)
it works well for me very good in attack and good in keeping possession defense is good too

Help needed urgently. I am going through a very very poor run of form against my mates online. I need a good solid formation that allows me to attack and defend in numbers. Slider numbers very much appreciated also. Please help. I used to be top dog but am now almost making up the numbers

try manchester city's default formation. it is a 4-4-2 Long ball formation. you need a good SS. very good defensivly and when you get the ball play it forward as fast as you can and hit them hard. you might not have a lot of possession but you will defenitly find space and get enough chances to win.

I believe it is important to be flexible, certain opponents will require different strategies to beat them.

For instance when playing against 4 3 3 - I will almost always use a back 4 with a central CDM. This way when i double up on the opposing wing forward using my full back and nearby CB the CDM will cover the gap my CB is leaving.

Similarily, If my opponent has no CDM i will use 2 AM and 1 SS striker + 2 CF's. He will be outnumbered almost every attack as long as i am capable of passing direct to the front 5.

In short, spy their weaknesses, be aware of your own and position your players accordingly. I take great pleasure in out manouvering my opponent in the tactical battle.

I'm sure there is no 'best formation'. Just adjust and tweak a lot and after a while you will find the best formation for YOU. It all depends on the players you have and the style you prefer to play.

Pokervriend, if you play against my 4-3-3 you will find that my formation is the best. The reason for this is because I have the most feared striker, Ibrahimovic up front. LWF as C. Ronaldo and RWF as Messi.

4-4-2 = too weak
4-2-3-1 = finding spaces will be hard

Pokervriend is ultimately correct but I also quoted rabi because when I was struggling the Man City 4-4-2 Long Ball got be into a groove because the defenders play back and tight (versus the counter attack Man U I used for along time that seems to expose the back line) and the fact that 4 midfielders for ManCity all 85+ rating. So not sure if the formation versus the team of choice. But I then became proficient with Newcastle using a 4-4-2. Now that being said, I don't like to play clubs with formations they don't actually use, takes away the realism to me. Man City actually plays primarily with a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1. But Newcastle moving from 4-4-1-1 to more often a 4-4-2 since Pappis Cisse came on board.

It differs from team to team tbh. One team will have players who fit best into one formatio and another team will have players who fit best into anorther formation.

^that's right again. one reason I like to play with the most realistic formations the club actually uses. For instance, if you are playing B. Munich and don't have Robben pushed out on the wing you are disrupting that intended game tactic (and creating an ebb in the harmony of the universe)

With Mario Gomez in the middle, I see no reason to use Robben on the right side. I put him left, and Ribery right and win the games on crosses, high and low.

The best formation for me is 2-3-1-4.... On Master League at Top Player. I know it is a wiered formation but it really works. It is easier crossing the ball inside the box and your both CF would be there waiting for the ball including AMF. If crosses sometimes dont work I will cut through with one of the wingers and shoot from outside the box. Try it and see if it works for you... It may take time to get use to playing this formation but its wicked.... with this formation the average possession is 57%. Average goal ratio 8 ( Depending how aggresive you play). My ratio is 10.5... All I do is ATTACK n ATTACK...
