Player's Attitude Leaves Him as a Free Agent
An American teenage soccer player's poor attitude has seen him without a team.
Lanre Badmus, a 17 year old left back, had specifically said before the 2011 MLS SuperDraft that he would only want to be drafted by the New York Red Bulls. When the Red Bulls passed him up at every opportunity, he began to get worried. He later went undrafted. Born in Paterson, New Jersey as the son of Nigerian immigrants, Badmus supported the Red Bulls growing up. He later went to Westfield High School, shockingly skipping his senior year to become a professional footballer, much to the dismay of his parents.
After he went undrafted, he was interviewed by the general managers of four MLS clubs: LA Galaxy, DC United, Philadelphia Union, and New England Revolution. Unfortunately, those clubs are the Red Bulls' rivals. Badmus angrily turned all four teams down, and not without resentment:
"Now why in the hell would I play for those teams? I'm a diehard Red Bulls supporter. I would never in my life play for West Coast Scum, DC is trash, I hate Philly with all of my heart, and I was literally ready to give the Revs' GM the Finger as soon as I saw him."
Now that Badmus is without a club, where will he go? Will he labor in the near abysmal depths of the NASL, or will he be fortunate enough to have a European team sign him? Stay tuned, all will be revealed on Christmas Day on the Lanre Badmus Show!
