View Full Version : Sunday 18th March - third pre-season warm-up race at Circuito de Madrid

This is the official sign-up thread for the third weekly pre-season race. As we are still awaiting some new additions (Sminky, muscularmatt) to really get going and as there is also a fair bit of inexperience in the field, I would still like to hold off on starting anything that will 'score points' as it were.

Driving aids will once again be relaxed to allow everyone to choose a setup that allows them to remain competitive.

Racing Itinerary

Date: Sunday 18th March 2012
Time: 22:30 (GMT)

22:30-23:00 - Q1 (30 minute qualifying/testing session)
23:00-00:00 (approx.) - R1 (14 lap race, grid decided on qualifying times - this will work eventually!)

If, once our first (main) race is finished, everyone is happy to continue we will schedule a second, shorter race.

Track - Circuito de Madrid

http://www.modojuegos.es/files/2010/11/gran-turismo-5-circuito-de-madrid-puerta-de-alcala.jpg

Length: 2.11 miles
Straight length: 0.51 miles
Elevation difference: 61.0 ft
Corners: 15

Entry requirements

Car: Volkswagon Golf IV GTI '01

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7042/vwgolf.jpg

Power: 168 BHP
Weight: 980kg
Drivetrain: FF

This car is acquired from the New Car Dealership. It should then be race-modified (immediately after purchase) to receive the correct specification. No further parts may be purchased, except for Racing Hard tyres (or worse).

Tyres: Racing Hard or worse

As far as racing aids, traction control will be allowed, as will the driving line, skid recovery force, mild active steering and the ABS. This is in the hope that those of you struggling to keep control of your car will have a more enjoyable time and keep things more competitive.

Of course, those who wish to play without are encouraged to do so (I know I won't be using any aids).

--

I think Madrid will provide a good third venue for us. The visuals we get should be nice and I think the Golf will be quicker than last week's Lupo, which will help those still getting to grips with handling their car.

Finally, those who love to go extremely wide will find themselves with more damage, but less time lost, as Circuito de Madrid is enclosed with barriers all the way.

Go get testing! And sign up below.

I'll be honest Nifty, unless someone sends me this car I'm not sure I'm going to get the requisite training in on time.

IronCity

I have one that just needs race modified. I will certainly have enough credits to buy another one but not sure if enough to modify that.

we could just go with the Lupo again if not enough guys that can buy and modify the Golf.

I have gotten into the habit of just logging on even if not to race just to keep that earning at 200%. It really helps out - you can come in 5th place on race night and make 30k with this bonus. Takes a few consecutive logins to get it up to 200%.

Not that keen on city races :/.
Nevertheless I'm in.

Sminky stop fagging around on pesgaming and go and earn some coinage.
play through the special events to earn fast cash. I don't own the golf but I can't imagine it being more than 30 combined with 100 odd for race modification.
Or you can buy the car and ask nifty if you can send it to him to race modify it. That mother's gt rich.

muscularmatt
15-03-2012, 21:45
Yeah how much does it cost to buy and race ready it?

IronCity

I will end up in a spanish expresso shop on turn 3 but I like expresso.

Yeah how much does it cost to buy and race ready it?

I think purchase price is 20-30k, but race modifying could be 110k or a little more. I should have waited for Nifty's response - he has this stuff down
edit - from nifty's other post
Power: 168 BHP
Weight: 980kg
Drivetrain: FF
Dealership price: 31,500 Cr.
Racing Modification price: 156,000 Cr.

Yeah how much does it cost to buy and race ready it?

The Golf will set you back less than 200,000 credits. That's for the car, as well as to race-modify it and buy Racing Hard tyres.

All prices for the standard cars we will be using can be found here: http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=89272.

If it means both you and Sminky will play, Matt, I'll buy and race modify you one each.

If you mean in terms of 'in game' currency, then yes, that would be greatly appreciated. If you mean you actually pay in monetary terms, then no I couldn't allow you to do that Matthew, as altruistic as it would be.

IronCity

shhhh.

Sminky, you must send $50 dollars to the U.S. to have your vehicle modified. I'll PM you my address or paypal.

Help me out again fellas - when do you spring your clocks forward???

You don't have to pay 200,000 of real money to get a race-modified Golf in Gran Turismo 5.

:cringe:

I meant in terms of paying a couple of quid for DLC or the like, I have no idea how the setup works. On Need For Speed they charged exorbitant amounts for car packs. Tsk. Kids.

I'm forwarding it by 1 hour at the 25th of March (in the UK). Doubt its' different in the US though

Baring in mind it's gonna be about half past 11 by the time I actually get home from work. I understand if people don't want to do it this late.

fick
16-03-2012, 19:13
I should be okay for race one, will have to see about any subsequent racing as I have a 5:30 get up on Monday :(

At least I'll have the right car this time though, rather than a 3 year older one!

muscularmatt
16-03-2012, 19:21
As I said, no sweat if people want to do it earlier and I'll just catch you another day. I know this is unreasonably late for normal people (One of which I'm not).

IronCity
16-03-2012, 19:51
I'll still run with you if you want to regardless. Only 7:30-8:00 here at the time

muscularmatt
16-03-2012, 20:14
Well I'm game if you are. Not sure if I'll be able to raise the credits in time though...

IronCity
16-03-2012, 20:25
we can run some stock vehicle if you don't raise the money. the first night we ever got together Nifty was picking stock vehicles to standardize. Keep logging in over the next few days to bump yourself up to 200% credit, even if you don't play, just log in, because by Sunday night you can be making 30k per race (more if you win).

muscularmatt
16-03-2012, 22:09
Right, noob question now, but what's all this 200% bonus shit I've been hearing about? I hear it all the time, but no one takes the time to explain what it actually is.

Right, noob question now, but what's all this 200% bonus shit I've been hearing about? I hear it all the time, but no one takes the time to explain what it actually is.
200% relates to the amount of credits you win at the end of a race. If you log in on consecutive days, the percentage increases i.e. on the first day it'll be 110% then 130% all the way up to 200%. So if the prize for first place is 4500 credits, you will end up receiving 9000 credits.

fick
16-03-2012, 22:15
You get a certain amount of credits for winning a race. If you go into GT world mode on consecutive days, you get an enhanced %age on the amount of credits you win.

After ~5 consecutive days, you max out at 200%, meaning your normal race wins will earn you 200% more credits. Easy way to rack up in game cash.

This applies to both single player and online races.

Edit: Damn you Mike. Getting revenge for the spambot, eh?

muscularmatt
16-03-2012, 22:42
You don't have to login online, then? Just into the game?

OMG this track is pissng me off!
Them last 2 corners I just cannot go round constantly fast. Even after about 15 laps I'm still fucking up on it.
Track has a much higher learning curve than the previous track we raced on.

18-03-2012, 15:10

If this offer is still good, then pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease may I have one?

I haven't just sat on my arse and not tried, just I've had alot of other stuff going on this week.

Nifty1Pound50
18-03-2012, 15:38
Right, I have just bought one and about to send it across to muscularmatt, who will be joining Mak, Fick, IronCity, Nifty, Appswah and Phatmann online tonight.

Sminky, if you are able to join us, then ask one of those with burgeoning bank accounts to help you out and send you one. My guess would be Fick.

Edit: I will open the lounge at 7:30pm. Feel free to join from then onwards.

Hopefully everyone who can will be there early which will allow Abu to get involved in a competitive capacity.

Could be a good evening of racing tonight, with numbers steadily rising.

muscularmatt

Nifty1Pound50

I'm going to try setting up a no damage race. I believe this makes the online racing 'full contact' with no-one going invisible upon contact.

Moyesavelian
18-03-2012, 17:17
You think the qualifying is going to work this time?

Michu
18-03-2012, 17:51
Not a chance I'll be able to make it. I've got an early start tomorrow plus I've had a couple of late nights on FNV so I'm feeling feckered. I will play GT5 at some point, most likely when I've exhausted FNV, I've no idea when that will be though such is obsession with it at the moment.

Nifty1Pound50
18-03-2012, 18:52
Fair enough.

In theory, I imagine we'll get a couple of races going at the earlier times (between 8 and 10), as that is when we normally meet and drive.

Also, I just realised I can 'share' cars with anyone on my friends list. Therefore, in theory, I can buy you all VW Golfs and then share them so you can each have one in a different colour. I can then send them one after another across two days.

Try and make it at 8pm, if you can. We'd love to have you!

You think the qualifying is going to work this time?

To be honest, I don't know what's going on with it. The first time I went online, it was just me and Fick driving around and the live timing was working just fine (this is what keeps track of everyone's times and ranks people accordingly).

Ever since then, it hasn't been working. No idea why not. Searched around online, no real answers anywhere.

abu97
18-03-2012, 19:13
I'll try but I definetly won't be allowed after 9:30 due to some work I need to complete

Yeah, tried last week to see what people were lapping at as my system said I'd posted the fastest lap... maybe it was lying... :erm:

So, what's the craic for tonight then?

Seems to be some disparity over the timings. Just to add my ten-penneth, I'm available now, up until about midnight, any later and it'll really bollocks me up for tomorrow...

Been delayed again. Will be online by 10:15. 10:30 at the latest.

A little bit bound by Mother's Day, I'm afraid.

The official start will be the later time, as advertised in the opening post.

However, there is likely to be a group of people online between now and about 10:30 who will no doubt be up for racing.

abu97
18-03-2012, 21:14

I've given up now as there were only 4 of us online and Nifty hasn't shown up so we're unlikely to get a good race going.

For my part in this evening's failure, I'm genuinely sorry.

I do feel genuinely guilty, particularly given that you planned it for this late to help accomodate me. What happened? I've been playing GT5 in the 'out of the box' version up until yesterday, not realising how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING COLOSSAL the update was going to be to allow me to play it online. I've had it downloading since I got up this morning, and it's still nowhere near ready now.

It's not my fault, but I don't want to excuse. I'm sorry I've let you all down, especially Nifty after he sorted me out the car in (presumably) the most macho and non gay looking paint job available.

We've gotta do this again sometime.

abu97
19-03-2012, 00:37
Shall we do the same one next week since it didn't turn out as expected? Or a different track?

I've just got home from work too.

Maybe we should try a midweek race sometime? Or maybe a friday/saturday or something.

abu97
19-03-2012, 00:40
I'd prefer Thursday or Friday. But I'm not really fussed to be honest, those are just tbe days I'll definitely be there.

Or we could forget about it and do another track on Sunday? Depends on other people's choices :innocent:

IronCity

we should have raced instead of driving around for 40min wrecking into one another. I might just show up and hit start race in the future. a few 6 lap races are worth at least 60k.

edit: I would still like to run that Madrid course. I think I have a fighting chance on that course. Don't be fooled by my 1:56, I am not sure I lapped without someone crunching me once.

Nifty1Pound50
19-03-2012, 19:48
Apologies again, properly this time, for not making it last night. My earlier short post was obviously done from my phone as that was my only internet source (no laptop in this house at the moment).

Sounds like it was a bit of a non-event, by all accounts.

I know it alienates the late workers, but I think the preferred start time will be the earlier one, generally. It's a shame that Saturday late evening isn't doable for all, as this would suit those of us with 9-5 jobs as well as those on night shifts. But perhaps not the pissheads.

Circuito de Madrid, with VW Golfs, will be plenty of fun. Just not as soon as we had all hoped, I guess.

I am not around next Sunday (cycling London-to-Brighton for charity), so my comeback will be in just under a fortnight. I am up for rescheduling for a midweek evening, though. Although that would keep Mike (IronCity) out, as he'll be at work no doubt.

Matt, until you have started a GT career mode and have a save game, I can't send you that car.

Sminky, I can send you one, too, if you like.

Regarding reschedules, I am in theory available on a Friday evening, but it is plausible that I get dragged out for drinks (although not this Friday, as I'm staying away from the booze until my cycle).

muscularmatt
20-03-2012, 02:57
I know why you couldn't send it to me, it's because I was on the old version of the game. The computer now thinks I've only just begun my game, even though it's about a month old. But rest assured I'm up and running now, and I'm coming for your 31 A-Spec level, suckah!

Don't ever change the paintjob.

It's actually a colour you'll struggle to ever get again - it's fairly rare to get that sort of hue.

Thanks for the well-wishing on my cycle, Mike. I'm just about to head to the cycle shop near me for some last-minute prep. I'm all set.
