i just thought i start an R&B Thread as it is a genre of music which i feel is really neglected in the UK. its no surprise most R&B artists dont release their songs here for example Joe who is an extremely talented artist but will probably never have a market here. in the UK he will only be known for 2 songs stutters which is amazing and ride wit u which is only because g-Unit feature on it. when it first started coming on radio they even said g-unit featuring joe which really angered me because the credit was going to g-unit
Yeah, joe is very talented, my mom has got 3 of his albums, Stutter was a heavy song, the featuring Mystikal was even better, i like 'Ride Wit U' featuring G-Unit too, dont like the normal version without G-Unit on it tho

I've got some Bobby Womack, Aretha Franklin and I love the Delfonics.
I've got some Bobby Womack, Aretha Franklin and I love the Delfonics.ooo yes Bobby Womack is THE man, i cudnt believe it when they were playing some Bobby at St. James, but for me the best R & B group or Act of all time has gotta be Jodeci
I wouldn't know R&B even if dropped something "heavy" on me..... I'll get my coat.

It was actually meant too be a sarcastic comment to say that R&B didn't start with TLC ! But Bobby is cool, what did they play, 'across 110th street'.
I've only got these albums because of Tarantino, but now I realise the ladies love a bit of Al Green.
Jonny2J you being a geordie have you heard of Nic Armstrong, he's a white brit whos album is a tribute to '60's R&B and Beat boom, its meant to be quality.

I love old R&B/Blues/Soul like Barry White, James Brown etc. I can't stand this current stuff. It's make me wanna kill people... a lot!

Look at some Booby Womack and Nina Simone(RIP), you'll be lovin it. You mean current stuff as in rap stars singing about stuff other than shooting people so gets categorised as R&B, but that Geordie guy, Nic Armstrong, is the real current R&B and there is plenty of other stuff out there.

I'm not sure about "booby" Womack but Womack & Womack were always great as was Nina Simone... but I think that's more soul than r&b with Nina. I also detest stuff like Mary J Bilge and all that twaddle. Never heard of the big Geordie but will look out for him!

But what is R&B, people say early beatles were R&B so I don't really know if anyone knows the Dells I'd say they were R&B but what about Dusty Springfield is that R&B ?
Womack &Womack I think were Bobby Womacks brother and his wife, I could never really get into it it seemed to 80's to me
R&B is the type of music artists like jagged edge, usher (not yeah which is produced by lil jon makin it more crunk), 112 (what they used to sing not their new albuim). classics are marvin gaye and luther vandross.

surely Womack, Mayfield etc are Funk\soul?
R&B was rythmn & blues, early Stones, John Mayall, Yardbirds etc taken from late 50s US black music

they are good but aren't R&B :p
Why did Jodeci spilt up ????they just went ther seperate ways and we know K-Ci & JoJo became a duo and released some classic material, Dalvin also released a solo album of his own which aint too bad but nuthin special, not sure about Devante though, theyve been working on a reunion album :) but it keeps on getting delayed as they want it to be perfect, i seen one of the trax they were doing on a K-Ci & JoJo DVD and that sounded banging as fuck!! :D
