This is an appeal to all Pro Evolution Soccer fans to lend their support to the 'Bring Back Chris James' movement:

Chris James has been an icon for the Pro Evolution series and his commentating in the game was masterful, cultural and beautifully balanced. He would inject some sorely needed humour into the game and provide poetic comments such as as "The sun is beating down but the wind is shooting through the stadium". You were never left in doubt what colour socks the team attacking from the left of the screen wore, he had an unfortunate speech impediment which caused him to pronounce Giggs as "Gregs" and "Oooooh, look at him fight for it". Then of course, there was the irony such as "Will be disappointed they failed to qualify for the next round".

Masterful sidekick Terry Butcher provided the aural support, with brilliant and detailed half time analysis. "I'd like to see more variety in their attacking play" he would muse at half-time after Chris James would tell us that the score was 1-0 to Liverpool and that Liverpool were leading by one goal.

They were replaced by the epitomy of evil Peter Brackely and impish devil spawn 'Cheeky cockney chappy' Trevor Brooking, who are, quite frankly, pants. The only thing Peter Brackely does is go "Wah!" but let's not even go there eh?

So support the fight; vote for good and eradicate evil!

i would much rather see someone like martyn tyler and andy gray... although what is really needed is just simply better commentary scripting.

Chris James was awful! Then again the scripting from Konami was pants. They should have done a proper job. And I guess it is hard to commentate to thin air. Surely they should get the commentators to watch games (real or PES) and commentate on them. Then use the audio from those games? Anyway, how do they do it on FIFA so well? And even TIF?

I was forced to once as I went to a mate's house and he only had PES1. He scored against me with his first attack and it was weird to play with at first but I beat him 2-1 after rounding the keeper to equalise.
Finished with winning both remaining matches.

Was the commentary better or worse in your opinion? I don't suppose you can remember? I seem to remember it being worse in PES1 than it is now in PES2. Now that's saying something. :)

o man, i played PES1 the other day and it is so weird. when i first played PES2, i thought "wow, this is better, but not much is different" but when you go back, god, its so weird. not necesarrily for the worse, while PES2 is better(and how) it is still fun to play. chris james just brouht an element of cheesiness to the games that peter brackley is just too professional for.

Although both the commentaries are bad, at least in PES2, they encourage you. PES1 is quite bad.

PES1: "The wind is shooting through the stadium"
PES2: "Welcome football freaks"

brackley is my personal favourite for presentation, but james just had that zazz(not a word) that fans loved. he wasnt famous, he wasnt good, but there was something about him that people liked. i hope brackley gets a better script this time, and enoguh with pronouncing Rui Costa as Real Costa!

They should have had all the Portugese names correct.

why not use someone to do a match intro(ie, bob wilson for UEFA Champions League 99/00(shite game) des lynam and gary lineker for Euro 2000) what is barry davies doin these days?

This was the first bit of commentary I was greeted with:

PES2: "Welcome football freaks"

What a fucking cheek! I was off the commentary from the beginning.

My all time fave quote. If you ever want information out of someone. Tie them up and play that on loop. lol. What about when Trevor Brooking has his sexual climax. First time I heard that I freaked!!! What is that all about????

he never says anything, nor is he asked anything, wouldnt you beat your meat in the same situation. and what about chipping the ball into the box "O, the shot of a master!!!" is he taking the piss or is he just an idiot, but that was O that was used.

I dunno but it sounded like he was wacking off at the wrong moment lol. Chris James was the funniest and best commentator without a doubt. Who could 'gregs'? Instead of 'Giggs'.

LOL I can't stop playing the game just to hear his amazing commentary.

also, the fact that peter brackley cant pronounce these south american names of stadiums very well, "welcome to the estadio, grcnshsal, um, the , oh i dont know!?!?" quite quite annoying.

i have actually gotten to the sad point of if im playing away ingermany/spain/italy/france, i change the commentary. the spanish and italian guys are so passionate!

maybe if you put PES1 in to a CD player you could get the chris james greatest hits, with an appearance by his estranged father(probably, this guy slept around) rick james.
