Not due for release for another year but here's some details and screens that have been released.

"Gameplay covers the time period between 1914 and 2401, within which the various versions of the protagonist must interrelate to make progress, with the story mode also allowing two players to proceed co-operatively.

Challenge and Arcade modes are also included, but the major addition is the 16-player online deathmatch mode, exclusive to the PlayStation 2 version of the gane. Toss in an enhanced Map Maker, which players can use to swap content online, and the elements are already in place for another rip-snorting action extravaganza.

The level we played is set in Scotland in 1924, which we were told will be the second level in the final game. The level begins on an exposed hillside, with Cortez and an AI character (or another player in co-op we guess) having to fight their way up to a castle at the summit, and break in.

Progress is impeded by grunts hiding behind walls and emplacements, and while you're dealing with these guys, you need to keep on eye on the numerous propeller-driven aircraft, swooping from above, spraying bullets. Added together, this busyness creates an immediate tension, compelling you to drive forward and enter the castle without delay.

Once inside, we found traditional TimeSplitters fare mixed in with the promise of greater story integration and more scripted events. We're not going to spoil things too much for you, but it was here that we encountered the first instance of a Cortez from a different timezone appearing at the appropriate moment to help you out just as you get stuck - what producer Mike Ress calls 'meet yourself gameplay'. It's like if you turn up at the pub after last orders, but then Future Johnny appears and pours you a golden pint of finest fighting lager. Can you tell it's a Friday night and we want to leave?

Back outside we got our first taste of vehicular action; a jeep awaits in a garage and you can either take the driving seat or take control of the gun at the rear while your ally takes the wheel. Further on we came across an impassable gorge, which requires you to flick the controls which operate the bridge. Unfortunately, those are on the other side of the gorge; fortunately, you have an amazing anti-gravity gun with which to shift the controls then carry on the carnage. Fast, furious and very cool.

Other levels you can expect are one on a train in 1969 and a haunted mansion in 1994, plus there will be two levels set in the future which a central to the denouement as players grow ever closer to the truth explaining the time jumping motif the series is built around."

It looks alright, maybe abit dated, but its probably early code there. The only problem is that isn't i9t being made by a different company now, so don't know if there'll be any (negative)gameplay alterations, as the other 2 were probably the most fun you could have with yopur clothes on !

Cutscene looks good, shame they didn't show more of the actual in-game action.

What they show there is not only short, but extremely dark.

I'm sure they'll release a batch of gameplay videos before long though.

EDIT: *Realises there are a couple of other videos on the site*

I got a DVD with PSM2 today and it looks very immpressive. It showed Cortez giving a key to his self of ten minutes ago, then later he shot down a chopper and a voice said "way to travel back in time and come to your own rescue"
It looks very cool. I love Timesplitters 2. Still plugging through the last of the challenges on hard now.

if you take 4 old games back to game you can get it for 99p.

the amount of fun timesplitters 2 gave me was ridiculous. although the single player isnt meant to be as good (shorter and cliched) the multiplayer is unbeatable. i hope theres a lot more multiplayer levels. the map maker is supposed to be a lot better and simpler. cant wait. zelda, mgs3, timesplitters, gt4 are going to make this year a great one for games.

edit: go on www.find-games.co.uk to find best price. play are doing it for 29.99 on PS2

There are 12 single player missions, which in effect is longer than TimeSplitters 2 but it is supposed to be a lot easier now, so you can breeze right through the game on easy. Should take only 6-7 hours on medium level. There is also 16 multiplayer maps, over 40(not sure how many exactly)weapons and 4 types of monkey!!!

The source for this is taken for EA Games, and reviews from people in USA, where the game was released on Tuesday.

TimeSplitters 2 is my favourite game of all time. And don't think any game will be able to match it.
But is this game worth the money?

Haribo

I dunno. I got it for £30 and a lot is the same. Half the multiplayer characters are the same, and classic maps (Mexican Mission, Chinese, Training Ground) are included as well.
Mapmaker is a hell of a lot easier to use, and you can make much bigger areas. But the choice of tiles and setting hasn't improved though. The ability to choose outdoor areas is good and adds just a little bit to the creativity experience.
The missions are relatively good (Mansion of Mayhem and What Lies Below are shit scary) and the environment is set well. For some reason the Bots are a lot better in Arcade and it takes time to be able to beat them. There are a couple of really good new maps added (Mars Prison, Temple, Vietnam, Venice) but then there are poo ones (VR, Hotel).
It has improved in many ways but is far too similar to TimeSplitters 2. In my opinion, save up your money for a bit add wait till it goes Platinum i.e. £20

I'll take your word fot it. And indeed the Training Ground is a classic, especially for bag matches.

What made TimeSplitters 2 such a classic was the co-op missions. My mate and I completed them on hard. Finishing Atom Smasher on hard was amazing. A great moment my gaming history. And I unlocked all the charcters, did anyone else do that?

Yeah, I did, but I hate the amount of Lt. and Sgt. and Cpt. there was. Less of that now, although there is a Lt. Black.....Yes, co-op missions are back and are pretty much the same as 1-player missions, from what I know anyway.

So basically EA have done what they always do? Same as before just added some bits here and there?

Yes exactly that. Why couldn't EIDOS still do it?

because EA do it with flash adverts and soundtracks.

atom smasher? you must be kidding. the worst thing ever was robot factory on hard. that level was the worst level ever. the checkpoint came about 1/5 into the level.

by the way did anyone do the tokyo level co-op properly. it was too hard to do it with two people so one of us stayed back and the other completed the level.

Cadbury
03-04-2005, 12:01
Robot Factory wasn't hard, it just dragged and was very long. And yes, my friend and I did Tokyo properly. I just want to know how many platinums you guys have?

The only reason they exist is for bragging rights, and I've had no-one to brag to. SO, how many did you get?

razor
03-04-2005, 12:04
I cant remember and my sis deleted everything on my memory card when she turned shrek 2 off while it was saving. i think thats the reason i hated shrek 2.

did you get platinums on the ones where you had to shoot millions of monkeys as they came at you on to p of the dam. that was impossible. i was happy with a gold on that.

Cadbury
03-04-2005, 12:09
Yeah, that's where you got platinums. I think I've got a gold on that one.

Platinums please.
