Option Files: A summary

OK… There has been 10’s of comments left on the blog and over on the forum asking the same questions, so let me clear up some confusion with a few simple bullet points.

  • At the time of writing, on the next-gen (360 and PS3) formats you can only have FOUR teams with ‘replica’ kits. This is because of the limited amount of photos you can use at any one time. Many of the files on eBay supposedly containing all the teams will require you to pick and choose, you will never be able to have more than FOUR at once (or 8 if you just have the home kits). All other kits on option files will be made to the best of the makers ability using the poor edit mode.
  • Yes, there IS a decent 360 file on the way soon… but you do run the risk of messing up your Live accounts by using it.
  • Most files will need to be unzipped before you send them to your PS3. We recommend you use WinRar.
  • Option files can only contain information which is editable in the game. At the moment, there is no way of including badges for the Premier League teams. There will NEVER be any possiblity of including new commentary, different ad boards or anything fancy like that (this can only be done on PC).

PES 2008 tops gaming charts

We all knew it would happen, but Pro-G has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 has topped the gaming charts.

Following No.1 titles FIFA 08 and Football Manager 2008 comes PES 2008, Konami’s latest entry in the highly praised Pro Evolution Soccer series. The slight change in name doesn’t appear to have done the game any harm, with sales almost matching those of PES 6’s debut week.

What is different this time around is the split in sales over the release platforms. PES 6 first week sales were PS2 heavy - the system accounting for 73% of sales with the Xbox 360 and PC left to squabble over what was left. This year, sales are much more evenly distributed: PS2 sales account for 42%, Xbox 360 30%, with the PS3 and PC sharing the final 28%.

Stats are currently unavailable, however, as to how many games have been retutrned for a refund.

And the winner is…

Thank you to everyone who posted on the forum over the weekend. It made it one of our busiest yet! All members who posted 10 or more times were entered into a prize draw to win a copy of this years official PES 2008 guide book.

The winner, selected at random by our independent adjudicator (AKA my housemate), was greenegg.

For the rest of you, you can still pick up the guide for just £7.99 over at our friends Amazon.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is now available

For those of you who have not ordered online, PES 2008 is now available for sale! Asda are reported to be selling the game for around £37 on next-gen formats… though stocks are said to be limited. One user reported that only 10 copies of the PS3 version were available in one 24 hour store where 60 fans are said to have turned up to buy the game.

Forum participation - WIN the Official PES 2008 Guide

The forums here at PESGaming seem to have taken a back seat after the introduction of the blog. It remains one of the largest UK based forums for Pro Evolution Soccer, but as I speak only 20% of the total users online on the forum are actually members. As a way to encourage you all to get involved and share information in the forums, we are giving away a copy of the official PES 2008 Guide. The guide will go to a randomly selected user who makes 10 or more posts on the forum between now and Sunday 11:59am. All members (other than admins) are eligible to win!

Remember the rules of the forum though. You should avoid spamming - make your messages at least one sentence long and of relevance to the topic. No racism what so ever and absolutley no discussion of warez or illegally downloaded versions of PES.

You can reach the forum here.

PES 2008 suffers ‘lag’ online

konami logoLag… the thing all online gamers dread. It seems once again Konami has failed to create a game which can be played online in a lag free environment. Even with the best connections it PES 2008 stutters huge amounts during online play. This is in addition to the ridiculous amounts of slowdown during both online and offline gaming.

Konami responded to the reports of lag, made by gamers lucky enough to get their game earlier than the release date of tomorrow, with this statment…

Konami Digital Entertainment has uncovered issues which can affect the online gameplay quality of PES 2008 on PLAYSTATION 3. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience. Further announcements will be made as soon as we have additional details.

You can leave Konami your views about the lag and give them information on which stadiums have the most lag by completing this form at their official website.

Meanwhile, posing as a customer, gaming website Pro-G contacted Konami and received this information over the telephone:

We were told that a patch was being worked on that would not only attempt to improve offline play but also online play. However, Konami does not have a timeframe on when that patch will be released.
