Play.com have announced the world’s biggest prize fund for a Pro Evolution Soccer tournament yet. Up for grabs will be fifty… yes, FIFTY THOUSAND pound prize pool.
The tournament which kicks off online will be open to everyone in the UK who pre-orders and buys the game from Play.com. The tournament will not be starting until December so you have plenty time to get practice in after the games release in October. Games will run until February 27th, at which point the final 32 will be choosen and invited to a prestige UK location for a live final.
If you are yet to order your copy, make sure you do so at PLAY.com. This is the only way to enter the tournament. You can pre-order and check out further details regarding the tournament by clicking here.

The first screenshots in beautiful HD resolution of a stadium in PES 2008 has hit the web. The stadium in the pictures is that of FC Porto of Portugal.
Not a lot to say from these really. I do like the fact you get a glimpse of the surrounding town and that the structure it’s self seems perfectly modelled. Just a pity really that when playing the game the stadiums are going to spoilt by a lackluster ‘3D’ crowd (from the screenshots and beta testing thus far, the crowd will be a mixture of only 15 to 20 different figures).
Hopefully the new player animations and textures will be enough to distract your attention from the poorly developed fans.

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks in the Pro Evolution Soccer community with news has been flowing in left, right and centre. It is now pretty safe to assume there are going to be no more big surprises (other than PERHAPS regards English licenses) so I thought I’d wrap everything we’ve learnt over the past few weeks into one simple list.
So here you have them, the new features for PES 2008.
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 will be released for PC-DVD, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, Playstation 2, PSP (PlayStationPortable) and Nintendo DS.
- Michael Owen and Cristiano Ronaldo will be the cover boys for the English release.
- PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 formats will all be the same next-gen quality game.
- Extensive edit mode for all next-gen formats.
- Better graphics/textures and animations for the next-gen games.
- You will be able to import your own face on the XBox 360 game using the Vision Camera.
- More or less players can be added to a wall when defending free-kicks.
- Shirt pulling can be used.
- Diving function included although the majority of the time players will receive a booking.
- John Champion and Mark Lawrenson confirmed as commentators, replacing Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking.
- Brand new presentation and menu system.
- Improved quick free-kick taking with no transition screens.
- Greater number of statistics in the game including your longest goal, longest winning streak etc.

A number of people have been asking for a solution to get PS2 PES6 Option Files onto their PS3’s… so here are a couple of solutions as suggested by forum members TylerDurden0 and petersmith5.
———- OPTION ONE ———-
1. You need a USB memory stick or use you psp for the same effect
2. You need a save from a PS2 game on your PS3 hard drive e.g Metal Gear Solid 3
3. Go to the PS2 memory card section on your PS3 menu and copy the game save to the usb device
4. Put the usb device into the p.c and go to my computer>removable device and you will see that the PS3 has set up a series of folders click through these untill you get to the file ending in .psv
5. Copy your PES6 option file into the same folder that the .psv file is in (make sure that the PES6 option file is a .psv file or it won’t work)
6. Put the usb device back into the PS3 go to saved games then USB devices and copy the PES6 option file to your PS3’s PS2 memory card
7. Whack PES6 in and your ready to rock
———- OPTION TWO ———-
The easiest way is with a PS2 to PS3 memory card adaptor, mine was a tenner and it’s dead easy. Put your mem card in it and connect it to your ps3 with the usb cable that charges your controller, go into PS1/PS2 mem card utility and it will find your PS2 card, then select the copy option and choose your destination (an existing virtual mem card or create a new one).
Your done, easy peasy!
We currently recommend you use the Neoseeker v3.6 option file. All transfers are up to date as of the end of July. Download the PS3 version here.

Please, please, please let this be true! Zoo are reporting that Konami have finally dumped the abysmal combination of Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking.
The new pairing is said to be ITV/Setana’s Jon Champion and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson. I think Jon Champion has one of the best commentary voices around, and although not the biggest fan of ‘Lawro’ at times, he surely can’t be any worse than Trevor Brooking.
What must be remembered though is that the commentary for the last few years on PES hasn’t been poor just because of who they got to do it. The scripting MUST be improved this time around - and with acres of room on the disc to play with I don’t see why we can’t have tons of new scripting and a whole better feel to the commentary altogether.
Then again, this is Konami we are talking about - we all know they can easily mess up the simplest of details.
Thanks to the NickSCFC via the W.E.N.B. team for the news.

The lads over at W.E.N.B. today got the heads up on a teaser trailer for Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Although not showing much actual in game footage, the short 23 second trailer really wets the appetite for more footage. One thing it does reveal is that both Scotland and Croatia will both be official licensed in the game.
