IWP League Champion 2008: Martin Ginnelly (River Plate)

Welcome to this week’s Interfering With Play. This week’s and next week’s column are two of the easiest to write in the entire year, due to the vast amount of information and hype surrounding the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. Over the next few days, people will be waking up to a pre-ordered game, or going shopping during their lunch break, then itching for 5pm to come. Yes, it is true that once the game is out, we don’t have to get it that exact day, but to be honest, why would we want to wait? I know for one I will be hitting the Game stores and supermarkets as soon as word comes out that Play.com has delivered its first copies of the game, and PESGaming.com will be the place to hear all the latest release news for all formats of the game. With that said and following what has been an exceptionally busy week on a personal level regarding football gaming, lets crack on with Interfering With Play.

“Our Time Is Running Out”

This week has been exceptionally hectic. As well as my normal working week, I have been working on the IWP Play list, the IWP Option File Help Pack and sorting out the IWP Player Of The Season award. For all of those of you who have been involved with these features in any way, I would like to say a huge thank you for giving your time. The IWP Player Of The Season award is covered in this article, so I will not dwell on that, but I would like to inform you of the situations regarding the Option File Help Pack and the IWP Play list. Firstly, I received over 250 e-mails last week asking to obtain a copy of this help pack, and what it actually entails. There is no way I will be able to send each and every one of you a copy of the file, and will be uploading on this site, all being well, on Friday evening. The pack does not feature an option file for PES 2009. It features up to date squad lists, logos and kits for the majority of English league sides, allowing you to create your own Option Files without the research! It also features links to help with player appearances, and stat converters using Football Manager 2008, allowing you to input a players FM stats in and see how they would translate onto PES. The Pack is 95% complete; I am just adding a few finishing touches to it before it is ready for the public. All those who have contributed to this pack, irrelevant if your information has been included, will be honoured in the notes section.

The IWP Play list has also received a great deal of support. The idea is simply to provide a list of songs that can be downloaded as an iMix, to use as an alternative to the J-Pop menu music of PES 2009. I wanted to create a list that had a wide variety and different genres, with the intention of people discovering new bands / styles that were not familiar with. The Play list itself is complete; I am just taking the time to convert it into an iMix before it becomes available on this site. The list will more than likely go live over the weekend, and I urge all of you to at least have a listen to the sample of the songs on iTunes, as there may be something there that takes your fancy.

The PESGaming.com community is coming in for some bad press at the moment, with a wide selection of morons leaving comments that are both offensive and irrelevant. It is the responsibility of the bloggers to ensure that this stops, and along with the banning of I.P addresses, I will personally be deleting any comments that I feel are offensive or pointless. I urge that you ignore these comments, as they will be deleted within 24 hours of being posted on IWP, and your response may seem out of context. In spite of these morons, the above IWP projects along with the IWP league shows that there is a strong community aspect in place and I am pleased and proud to be involved in it!

“And My Generation”

Those familiar with the Limp Bizkit song, ‘My Generation’ know the lyrics that come before that line, and probably feel that most developers don’t actually care about the previous generation of consoles, in particular the Playstation 2. The PS2 is one of the most legendary consoles in gaming history, and turned Sony from a one-console wonder into a gaming superpower. It has a range of games and accessories that to this day is still unrivalled, and featured groundbreaking features such as backward compatibility and USB support, which were both ‘before their time’. Like many households, I owned one, and even to this day, it is still used as a DVD player in a spare bedroom, when required.

The fact that following the minimal improvements made on PES2008 on PS2, Konami are rumoured to have done even less on PES2009, whilst FIFA 09 is a shoddy affair on the last gen console. Developers are concentrating on Next Gen games, as the real big money and publicity is in these nowadays, and the token release of last years game with a few updated teams is seen as enough to keep those, yet to pay the big bucks for the new machines, quiet. As an owner of a next generation console, I am personally in a similar boat. I have spent a great deal of money on a top of the range machine, and I want my developers to be spending their time developing for that machine, not on something that has been maxed out graphically a few years ago. I know there are many people out there that are the same, and don’t really care about the last generation, but my point here is aimed at those who are looking forward to buying PES2009 on PS2, or are yet to take the plunge into the next generation.

Do you feel its fair that developers and publishers that you have financially supported for the last few years ignore your end of the market now? You still paying customers and still want a new game every year. Do you feel, perhaps, that PES 6 on PS2 was the pinnacle of football gaming so far, and trying to improve that on that console simply cannot be technically achieved? To the next generation gamers, do you feel that developers should just forget about making games for the last generation, and concentrate on the future of gaming? And would this help last generation games bite the bullet and purchase a 360 or PS3? With PES 2009 planned for release on 7 formats (including mobile phone) surely the oldest one should be sacrificed for the greater good? Finally, how do the last generation gamers feel about their treatment regarding the release date for PES2009? At the time of writing, Internet sites are claiming it to be released at the end of October, yet high street shops are confident they will be selling it on the 17th. This kind of confusion can only occur from lack of communication, and Konami are blatantly putting PS2 on the back burner. Any views on this subject from anyone who it may affect or have affected will be welcomed.

“I’m Picking Up Good Vibrations”

The following is a 100% true story. Last Wednesday I received e-mail from EA Sports. I am not a member of any EA mailing lists, and have never spoke to anyone at the company. Writing on a Pro Evolution Soccer dominated website, I did not expect anything other than this to be junk mail, and was tempted to simply bin the message without reading it. I opened the mail, which informed me that the EA Sports marketing department has been following IWP and PESGaming.com for quite a while now, and they would like to send me a complimentary copy of FIFA 09, to simply test the game out, with no pressure to even mention the event even occurred. I accepted the offer, but not before e-mailing Konami, informing them of what had occurred, and more importantly who I was and who I wrote for. The contact at Konami passed me on to a separate PR company, who has failed to be in touch, provide any reviewable copy of the game, or even acknowledge the fact that PESGaming.com exists! Meanwhile, my copy of FIFA 09 arrives, and once again, EA Sports prove just how much bigger, powerful and more clued up they are than Konami.

I do plan to write a full and honest review of both PES 2009 and FIFA 2009 in the coming weeks, along with a comparison article for both games. At the end of the day, irrelevant of if your going to purchase or play FIFA 09, it is still interesting to hear what features are involved in the game, and what each company is currently improving or letting slide. My point here is two fold. Firstly, I must take my hats off to EA Sports. I have been less than complimentary about their way of conducting business in previous years, but they have proven here they actually take on board the views of the man on the street, the regular man, the average columnist. In a day and age where business is becoming more and more impersonal, it is good to see that a major company still takes the time to employ good PR, and I am more than open to admit that I am impressed with what the Canadian based company has done.

However, this is a PES site. It is about Pro Evolution Soccer, so lets not focus on the EA game and instead take a look at Konami. PESGaming.com is first on Google when the word ‘PES’ is typed in. It is third on Google when the words ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’ are typed in. We achieve well over a million hits a month, have a comment and forum set up that receives thousands of views every week, and have been around, in one form or another, for over 5 years. We are not the ‘official’ PES site, yet we bring more news than any other PES based site on the web, and have a dedicated and hard working blogging team, who give their free time to publicise Pro Evolution Soccer for no charge. The fact that a single copy of the game was not pre-released to a PESGaming.com blogger, not necessarily myself, in order for us to provide a review of the title, a review that will reach potentially millions of PES fans, is a truly awful piece of public relations on the part of Konami. We all know that pre-release games were distributed to magazines any other, less popular websites! The fact that a letter penned by myself, expressing views regarding PES and potential improvements, wasn’t even dignified with a response, is just embarrassing. I am not talking about them not listening to me, I am talking about them listening to the largest PES website, arguably in the world! The fact that Konami are still using the Konami online ID as opposed to simple features such as the PSN or Live are just one of the many signs that in spite of making a top football title, the company is so far behind the times that sooner or later, they will have just been passed by. The fact that a rival company is more interested in its fan’s opinion than they are is proof that something is up, and the next 12 months could be very much make or break not just for PES, but for the entire company of Konami. Any views, as always, are welcomed.

“You Say I Must Eat So Many Lemons”

A quick point made in a couple of comments and something I personally mentioned in previous weeks was the fact that IGN rated PES 2008 highly, even though a great deal of other media kept it very low. The fact that IGN sponsored PES2008 more than likely had something to do with this, and is again proof that all reviews must be taken with a pinch of salt and in many cases, put into context. This years review, rating PES2009 a full 7 points lower than last years, even though the actual text says the game play is an improvement on last years begs the question whether the scores are in fact for sale. Read further and you see that even though, in many views, PES has the edge when it comes to graphics this year, they are rated below average on IGN, and you have to realise that the proof of a game is solely in the playing. Whether IGN are just bitter as they are not sponsoring PES09, or whether EA have had a say in this I wouldn’t possibly like to comment, but one thing is pretty much certain, PES2009 does look to be an improvement on last years game, and I for one am looking forward to it!

“The Winner Takes It All”

Finally this week, as promised, is the IWP Player Of The Season Award. Over the last month, over 200 people voted on their top players for PES2008, a huge rise when you consider only 70 took part last year. Counting the votes has been an exceptionally long-winded process, especially when you take into account that over 120 players all received at least one vote. Interestingly, no one gave Chelsea midfield star Deco their vote, yet players such as Cameron Jerome, Lee Bowyer and even Stuart Downing all received some recognition. It was also good to see defenders and goalkeepers getting mentioned, with Rio Ferdinand earning a respectable four votes, and even Buffon gaining two. But when the numbers add up, it is pretty obvious to see a pack start to form. Only 9 players received over 10 votes, and the top three players were all there by a comfortable margin. The results are as follows.

3rd Place: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (24 Votes)

2nd Place: Cristiano Ronaldo (35 Votes) (PES 6 Winner)

1st Place: Lionel Messi (44 Votes)

So, for the second year running, the player who is starting on the box of the next PES wins the Interfering With Play Player Of The Season Award. Having used Messi on the demo version of PES2009, I will be very surprised if his name doesn’t end up in the top three again in 12 months time, although I am sure Cristiano Ronaldo will also be there or there abouts. I would like to take this opportunity, once again, to thank all of those of you who spent your time voting for your players. Its great to see such a wide variety of players selected and, if anyone requests it, I will provide a list of all the votes and players involved. Its also a great sign that people don’t just play every game using top teams and that when it comes to Master League, people do search for the hidden gems.

That’s your lot for this week. As always, you can reach me via e-mail on interferingwithplay@hotmail.co.uk or if you want to express your views publicly, do so via the comment button under this column. All offensive comments will be deleted within 24 hours, so try to ignore them wherever possible. Enjoy playing Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 if your picking up your copy this week, and check the site for news on the play list an Option File help pack.

Thanks for Reading

great column! i look forward to it each week.

  3. cheo Says:

Great column. I only hope, konami fixed the online multiplayer mode.

  4. RJ Says:

Hi Dan, after reading your piece mate, i really hope you remember that you are a PES man, not FIFA. Just because EA have given you a free copy of the fifa game does not mean that the thoughts and remarks should become negative on PES 09 without any foundation.

Lets take for example Heinz Baked Beans, if your dead cert that you will always buy this brand of beans, would your thought process change because HP have given free samples outside TESCOS????

I agree with you that Konami has a shoddy marketing department but then again there games are usually much better than EA’s.

You also should realise that Fifa also has there own independant Fan Sites, sites where they go and slate this site. As you said in your column if you type PES in the google toolbar, pesgaming.com comes up!!! Hence why the reason arose than you got a free copy of the Fifa game, a ploy to simpy get you to comment on how good the game is, and also to get you to make comparisons between the both.

  5. Edot Says:

I think thats where Dan is using his head. He hasn’t mentioned anything about the game, but he is only saying that, as the main driving force behind PES news, they should at least be given a bit of recognition. Whats the worst that could happen if Konami listen to the letter that was penned, Oh we might get a game that is undisputedly great! Konami has had a shocker!

  6. LFCman Says:

great read dan as usual. Shocking from konami considering them amazing stats you stated (1st on google etc.). Keep up the good work. And any chance you could mention little big planet on next weeks column as it looks amazing and i wonder if it will get the credit it deserves. Thanks dan!!

  7. Carl Says:

for the editing mode, where you can import images of club badges etc and place them on teams in the game, how do you do this?, i mean, can you just do it on your ps3 aslong as you have the images on the hard-drive? or do you have to be connected to the internet or anything like that?

  8. jason Says:

thats mad that is how EA give u a free fifa – its that rubbish

  9. Red Says:

I agree with RJ, don’t be bought for a free copy of FIFA09…..keep plugging away at Konami though!

  10. super-pes Says:

  12. PROBOY Says:

Do you know when game will be dispatching the game?? My pre order status is still being ‘picked and packed’, anyone else have the same from GAME?

  13. Jasperinho Says:

    @ Jesper,

I guess that the answer is absolutely yes.

I first connected my PS3 without an HDMI cable, which basically gives you the standard view (I guess) and that looked great too. You do notice, however, once it’s connected via an HDMI cable.

I am not sure however, whether the image looks nice because my tv is an HD television when I didn’t used the HDMI cable, but my guess is that that doesn’t make a difference…

  14. italia82 Says:

I think EA is trying to corner the market by squeezing out PES just as they did with 2K’s American Football titles by paying a boatload of money to grab the NFL’s exclusive license. Last year when W.E.N.B started to get some notoriety EA swoops in and starts up the FIFA Soccer Blog. This year EA flies out Suff, from W.E.N.B. to playtest FIFA09 due to him being disappointed in PES 2008 and now EA has an old avid PES fan with his own podcast constantly talking up FIFA09. Now EA send you a complimentary copy of FIFA09. Look at the pattern. EA knows that the PES community is a community unrivaled in videogames and they want to grab the hardcore gamers. They already have the casual gamers locked up, but if they can get the hardcore gamers then Konami is finished. Konami only have themselves to blame, but at the same time don’t look at EA as being this altruistic company. They know exactly what they are doing and that’s why EA is one of the largest most successful videogame companies around. Unfortunately, for them, their football game is still behind PES in the gameplay department. Just my two cents.

  15. passthedutchie Says:

    Excellent IWP.

Konami have almost definitely dropped the ball, but, from reading industry stuff, it would appear that the Japanese gaming industry, as a whole, are still much further away from the current generation machines mechanics than they should be. Capcom are probably the only exception to my point.

America and Europe have embraced the HD generation of gaming far quicker than Japan had ever imagined it would, although it was Japan that led with the technology.

The problem really lye’s with the Japanese developers. I agree that the coming year is going to be a very important one, not only for Konami, but, other Japanese developers’ relationship with the American & Euro zone market.

Again, excellent IWP this week. The quality has returned!

  16. Ultimate Says:

Another brilliant column this week, one of the best I’ve read for some time.
Perhaps I’m slightly biased because the vote of Cameron Jerome was mentioned by myself, but nevertheless a great blog.

FIFA have really impressed me by sending you a free copy of their game, really does go to show you that they do indeed care, as you say, more about the views of their rival fan base than the Konami team themselves do. It’s a sad day when I have to say that Konami have lost some respect in my eyes.
Maybe Konami don’t respond at all to anyone commenting on their work, in order to spend more time improving the game itself. An optimistic remark, I agree, but possible??

Would love to know a teeny bit more about the Option File however, hoe does it work on the Xbox360??
If anyone could reply to this I’d appreciate it, and good work again Dan. Only a few more days to go people!

Stop talking about Fifa. do you know they are continuously closing anyhting related PEs recently ? specailly in PC section there are so many rebbel threads agains PC version and everyone wants the PES 09. evne those who bought wanna give it back and buy PES. and those threads are being closed. So dont give them a daam just because they made u feel a VIP :D Its Pes taht brought u here and Stay loyal to PES always.

  21. Anon Says:

Cant wait for friday. The demo was ok but i hope konami hav got their act together in the full game.

  22. Carlos Says:

Brilliant post as always Dan, but to those that are wondering….
QUOTE : “but to be honest, why would we want to wait?”

Well, sad case is, i have no choice, last night, my Xbox360 got the ‘Red Rings of Death’, on the week on which my all time favourite game/series was released. I literally live off PES, i’d marry PES if i could!!!

    One Word: BULLSH*T

Good luck to everyone out there who gets it, tomorow i’m gonna have the arduous task of going into town to begrudgingly cancel my PES2009 Pre-order…

    Cheers

  23. Horlicks00 Says:

Well done Dan, a excellent read yet again. I always look forward to a Tuesday and reading IWP and I enjoy your views.

I just want to comment on post 5. RJ
I am fully backing Dan on this one 100%. You have to look at the bigger picture. Dan spend more than 4 weeks to compile a letter to Konami and send it to them last year and never got any inclination that we even exist to them. I was reading the IWP post by that time and the letter was a really good one.
So when your Idols go on as if you don’t even exist and their rivals come and show some interest you must be doing something right at least. Kudos to EA, that is real big of them to do that. They saw a gap and took it. I am a EA fan and not a Fifa one even though I must thank them for getting me started in the whole football thing in the beginning. But enough of that, I as a PES fan believe that the PES series is always two steps or so in front of Fifa and would welcome a “quality” check every now and again. To keep your eye on the enemy so to speak. I find that Dan is very open minded and fair even though he is a big PES fan.
So RJ don’t go rip into Dan just because you are not happy with what he said, go read the article again and even some of the previous ones and you will see that Dan has gone and bought Fifa every year so that he can see how they progressed, just go read IWP 30th September and IWP 7th October before you leave comment like that.
Yes you are entitled to have your opinion but don’t be upset about other peoples views. So there is Dan’s “foundation” for saying what he did, for you. Hope you see the light now. That is that then.

I am very happy about the IWP Player Of The Season Award as 1 & 2 was also my 1 and 2 choices.
I am a big PES fan and is totally hooked on PES so much that I have to play at least one match a day.
Keep up the good work Dan, there might be only like 200 people replying to your column but I am sure more than 1000 is reading it every week and will look forward to the next weeks piece.
Thanks for all the hard work we appreciate it.

jus wanna say great post dan..first time ive read IWP!

  25. bobby Says:

this rascist behaviour is beginning to spoil the fun in this website. this website is not for rascists.nobody would feel fine if you are discriminated. as for the IWP player of the year, i support the results though i’m a little confused on how ibrahimovic won the award.can someone tell me the website were i can download the pack of updated kits, badges and players. konami do not have good communication with this site ’cause if they do they would know how to make the game slap FIFA09 on the face. They also have the advantage of releasing their game on a late date.Konami needs to update the game even if they dont have any licence. they should compare their game with the real world.

  26. Some Guy Says:

For anyone who can’t wait, there is a torrent up on http://www.gamestorrents.com/eng

  27. andrewB Says:

Of course it’s a marketing ploy by EA and of course Dan realizes that! I don’t think EA are being underhanded, they are just being pushy marketers! They know FIFA is slowly improving and they are smelling blood. Why shouldn’t they test the loyalty of PES fans? Most reasonable PES fans are, after all, simply fans of playing realistic good football gameplay in a virtual world. The reason we’re PES fans is because Konami has usually done it better.
I was listening to WENB’s latest blog and I was saddened to hear how deflated they were about their pre-release copy of the game – even if they did give it props. They really had to dig deep to give it props though.
I’m definitely getting PES09 but what Dan and other’s are lamenting is the impression that Konami are really slacking off with every iteration. It seems to me that it’s the perceived general attitude (of Konami) that ‘all is alright’, from the marketing to the actual game, that worries fans of PES.
Only the most dogmatic PES fanboys will deny FIFA is making progress. Even Seabass said in a recent interview that he’d love FIFA’a engine and it’s animations.

  28. Captain Zidane Says:

Hi.. I’m from the netherlands and PES 2009 was released today. As a diehard fan I immediately bought the game! I have to say the gameplay is awesome! There is one thing though that really pisses me off and that is that Konami doesn’t take their fans seriously. Why you ask? well the transfers aren’t up to date! I played the demo where there were also unupdated transfers but i thought that they would have fixed it before the release. how can PES ever seriously compete against FIFA when these things aren’t right?! It really doesn’t take much time to get the squads right. I can do it myself with help of the edit-mode. so why doesn’t konami take the time (2 hours) to fix the transfers?! this really pissed me off.. i was sooo looking forward to this game.. and now that i bought it i’m very dissapointed in konami for not taking the fans seriously! it’s a small thing, i know.. but it’s a really really important one! what do you guys think?

  29. Anonymous Says:

    pro evo out!!!!

  30. Troy Says:

100% correct. The most important asset to any business are its customers, otherwise there wouldn’t be any business. By taking on ideas or views from the consumer, they will then only be able to achieve great heights with this game. Not to say the game isn’t fantastic this year.

  31. Edot Says:

I think I remember someone saying in a previous post that FIFA put a clause in that means we can;t have transfers in the game after the 2nd of Aug. If thats true, then EA are definately being underhanded.

  32. RobotRodney Says:

Yes, as many others have said, an excellent article, and great read. Im a new kid on this block, and the site and writers ooze quality. I think its really ignorant of konami to completely ignore the letter written to them, this site is promoting there product in a massive way, its in there interests to at least acknowledge that. Cant fault fifa really. They are good enough to send a free copy, and certainly seem more approachable than konami, even if their game is not much fun to play in my opinion, they are trying very hard.

carefull dan, dont be bought my the major ea bucks, its true what people in here are saying regarding this, what better way to gain pes adepts and convince them to try fifa, than to seductively invite “the mind” behind pes greatest site

  36. Anonymous Says:

pro evo much better than fifa

  37. Remz Says:

The racism on this site is disgusting. You want to be taken seriously by Konami? You should sort out free membership to the site with password and user names. If people have to sign up then they might not be so quick to drop these racist comments. Email addresses and home addresses should be compulsory information to sign up. If any racism still occurs then the site should simply publish the address of the culprit on a ‘racist list’. I’m sure many would be happy to go to these addresses and see if this racism continues to spout out of their ignorant and pathetic mouths.

Where Can I Buy Pro Evo if it is out tonight ? I dont understand if people are alleging that the game has been released tonight and then not bothering to say where they have got it from…..

Can anyone also confirm how exactly I will be able to edit the kits, logos and music for PS3 which i have saved onto my usb memory stick in anticipation of the games release???

  40. Amateur Says:

Great Post Dan.. I’m particularly pleased with the FACT that EA Sports actually bothers to look through PESgaming.com.

I always thought to Myself, that if EA Sports was looking for Clues on How to make their game better, the best place for that would be PESgaming.com, we have some Interesting members (and Suggestions) in here.

Better than the ones you’ll find at either PESFan or WENB.

And like you already said, Konami fails in their Relationship with their Customers.. That is something David Rutter and EA Sports have improved on -and- it has become Evident to me for some time now.

Anyways, in my Opinion, FIFA09 offers great Build Up Play and Animations -but- the game as a whole Fails because of the following:

1- All the TEAMS and Players feel like Identical Copies, this Ruins the Gameplay experiense -as- it is Impossible to have TEAMS if all the players are just as effective in every Position.

2- Goal Scoring lacks a certain feeling of Timing, it just doesn’t feels as Satisfying as PES. The Goal Scoring Feeling must improve.

My suggestion to EA Sports (and Konami) is that they should sit down, take a break, and think -and- if they Cannot afford a break for some Peace of Mind -then- they should hire a Football Amateur to do that for them.

They need someone who isn’t working with computers, etc, etc.. Someone who can actually sit down, research through the many Football Footage there is to see, and think about How they should Improve their game.

Like any good Student who wants to learn a certain Art, they need to take a good look at the greatest Exponents of Football: Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Di Stefano, Zidane, Romario, etc, etc..

They need to Identify the Skills (in this case “Stats”) that made those Legends Unique. Why was Zidane Unique?? Why did Pele scored so many Goals?? What’s the main Difference between a Second Striker and a Playmaker?

How has Football changed through the years?? Has it Evolved?? Or has it simply Changed?

Those are the type of questions Konami and EA Sports should be asking themselves.. a Constructive Analysis -the- more Realistic the game becomes -the- better it will be, and the better the Challenge.

In order to make Football Sims more Realistic, Konami and EA Sports must find a way of Introducing all the different aspects that make a TEAM -and- Logically, if we are to have TEAMS, we must also have Differences between Individuals.

Bottom Line?? Konami must start Listening to their Fans, if anything they should at the very least exhange a Few Words with us.

And as for FIFA and PES, I don’t see any Significant Improvements in either of them -but- years 2010 and 2011 will be Interesting, Next Gen era is just getting started.

    Thought so ….?

  42. RJ Says:

Guys – I was not ripping into Dan, i think his articals are great. I was just saying do not be swayed by FIFA (EA). Also WENB, the other pro evo site, one of the main guys were sent a full game copy of the new PES 09. He has even put things on youtube regarding it.

I think Konami were idiots in not responding to the letter.

Horlicks00 – Grow up mate, i was not having a go at Dan.

  43. Fox Says:

    Great read Dan, nice job.

I tell you, it is damn lucky for Konmai that I actually enjoy their football exoerience and not EAs, because I am no fanboy. I am loyal up to the point that someone deserves that loyalty, and if Konami can’t start sorting out some proper service for its fans I’ll jump ship as soon as EA Sports has a title I enjoy.

I hope they can get their act together for next year but if they don’t, and FIFA improves once again, then PES will be well and truly in trouble.

  44. starvin Says:

    Good work, Dan.

I share your disappointment with Konami’s apparent indifference and am concerned about how complacent they’ve become. If they’re not careful, they’ll turn the WE/PES franchise into another Jikkyo World Soccer on the PS2 (I wonder if anyone here remembers that game)?

  45. Ultimate Says:

Agree with posts 51 and 52 above me, I dont think we should let Konami and PES get away with taking our support and love for their game for granted. Fair enough, we enjoy their titles immensely, and their football experience is well and truly ahead of FIFA’s in term of gameplay experience, but if Konami begin abusing the loyalty that all of us have shown over the last however-so-many years, I will lose more and more respect for their franchise.
Lets face facts, FIFA has been catching up the last few years, and this years is the closest battle between the pair for a long time.

  47. BigRedManc Says:

Great column as ever, and i can see from the responses that it has caused a huge debate amongst us fellow fans. i must agree with the comments regarding Konami’s utter ignorance of this site’s existence and the influence it has over their fans, which i find astonishing to say the least. I think this site has far more readers than estimated, i have been a regular reader for nearly a year but this is my first post. I have also been surprised at the amount of ‘negative’ responses accusing Dan of siding with EA over Konami when he was merely raising a very honest and valid point.I have often labelled FIFA fans as ’sheep’ in the past, they could see PES was a far better game but FIFA followers were blinded by the fancy presentation, licenses but more importantly loyalty. We shouldnt hold the same prejudices out of loyalty, as Konami have proved they have no loyalty to us. I will always buy what i believe to be the best and most enjoyable football game out there, which in recent times has been PES. However, if in a few years time FIFA is more enjoyable (which i cannot see happening) then i would not hesitate to go out and buy it. Come on Konami, pull your finger out!

  48. Simon McDermott Says:

Great post Dan, you’ve raised some interesting points again as always.
It does seem that some of the games company’s are living a little in the past, by still releasing iterations of their current games on last gen consoles, though I understand that in these troubled times not everyone can afford a next gen console, so they still deserve something a little better than a yearly update to the team roster.
Perhaps there’s not enough money in the last gen market now, to spend too much time on production, or even assign a separate production team, to give last gen gamers a fair deal.
On the subject of Fifa sending you a free game, they really are sharks aren’t they! One sniff of blood and their in their quicker than a convict in a whore house.
I too, like your self, like to give Fifa a fair crack of the whip, although most years I never get past the demo copy, normally that’s enough for me, and I get on with enjoying playing Pes.
I mentioned in the previous response that I thought Fifa was better this year, and even went as far as saying I thought it was quite good. Now though after playing the game for a week Fifa has began to show all it’s old cracks again, with all the easy scoring routines and unstoppable paths you can take to score goals, which destroys it as an enjoyable game.
Example: I was completely out playing a guy from Spain last night with my passing ,movement, but every time I scored he could just run his player straight from the kick off past my whole team and score, there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop this happening. There’s nothing worse than having a game where the art of scoring is not by creating great new passing moves, but instead relies on you remembering stupid cheap ways of getting goals, because of floors in the production of the game.
There are many similar ways of scoring cheap goals, but I’m not going to go into them all now. Needless to say I’ll be straight down Game, on the Pes release day to trade in Fifa 09 for PES2009. I reckon the second hand section will have so many copies of Fifa 09 in there, they won’t know what to do with them.
I think it is slack that Konami don’t listen to your, or our comments, this does show ignorance on their part, to not realise that all the ideas to make PES a better game lie with us the fans.
If it is Fifa that prevents Konami from updating squads after August, then it just shows the levels they are willing to sink too, just to gain dominance over a particular market. Why don’t they just make a good game! wouldn’t this eliminate the need for insidious tactics to gain fans for their franchise. This is what really Pee’s me off about E.A, don’t they realise that if you spend all your time and money on making a really good game game, people will buy it instead of the competitions game, but no, instead they come up with the policy of; lets get all of the licenses sown up, make an average game and then spend even more time and money preventing the opposition from making a good game so they go out of business.
It’s like if you were having a competition for who could throw the best party, and instead of you making sure your party was great, you planned an average party and then went around wrecking everyone else’s, just to make sure everyone thought yours was best. They remind me of dick dastardly and muttly from the kids cartoon wacky racers, where instead of trying to win the race fairly, they spent all their time sabotaging the other racers so they could win.
And just to think I almost believed they had made a good game, I won’t be falling for that one again.
I think Fifa accurately represents the personality of E.A in general, cheap and easy ways of scoring and winning and this is why they act the way they do.

  49. Masi Says:

Very enjoyable read. And yes, you are correct Dan. EA as big a company they are, at least have time to research and listen to the views of the man on the streets.

I will always love PES, but Konami have shown they are out of touch with the average modern day gamer. Not replying your email Dan is an example. But another prime example is their Konami ID compulsory sign up in order to play online. Its ridiculous. Every other game its just a matter of loging in to the servers and you are already playing with others.

By the way, 365games.co.uk just emailed me telling my PES2009 was shipped yesterday. But since I am in Aussie, it will be at least next week before I get it.

  50. MU Says:

Whatever you opinion is on FIFA, I’m sure EA will also be interested in your feedback and suggestions. It was the same with Suff from WENB. It’s crazy how the team behind FIFA has advanced lately in terms of PR.

  51. nigel daly Says:

Great column Dan, I read a review of FIFA 09 recently(sorry can’t remember which site) and they gave it 9/10, with the last words of the review being “over to you Konami”. It really is a pivotal moment for PES and everybody, including EA, can feel it. The bottom line for me is I want to play the best football game that is available. I have pre-ordered PES 2009 and if I am not seeing MAJOR changes from last year I have no problem switching to FIFA (I haven’t played FIFA since 2001). The fact that they sent you a copy of FIFA 09 is VERY smart marketing on their part and shows that they do read your site and others. Konami totally dropped the ball by not contacting PES dedicated sites.

  52. nigel daly Says:

3 cheers for REMZ, comment 44, I second that motion

great column, no wonder pesgaming is top of google list.
this FIFA vs KONAMI stuff is becoming like religion, and the biggest question is, can they coexist? Are we, the konamist, allowed to also try what FIFA might offer….. for me its out of the question, you are either a FIFA or a KONAMI, and thank god I chose the latter

  55. peswarrior Says:

not so many of us will enjoy pro evo online, cos nobody’ll like it if Saha scores against you for united…this is piss taking, how can we play with teams not yet updated, even if we get them updated we cant use them online..so KONAMI, please surprise us all, by having updates available online..and yo dan! you sound like you are about to turn your back on KONAMI, please dont be so susceptible. They (KONAMI) may have a policy which might not favour you, so just let it go..cos i know for sure KONAMI wont give out a copy of PES 2009 to an EA/FIFA personel/fansite..we could all see what they did when the FULL FIFA 09 came out.

  56. Wild Wazz Says:

Rumour has it that people have downloaded PES 20098 on the Xbox 360 already! those b*stards!!!

  60. Macca Says:

Dan, good read this week mate nice one.

An interesting point about konamis PR, I just cant believe how ignorant they are. This site does nothing but promote the game year by year however good or bad (the latter being a nod to PES 2008 :p), something they as a company should feel privilaged to have.

The fact that EA has given someone a specific task of keeping notes on this site, and taking the time to get hold of you and offer a release of the game just to look out is pretty good PR. I actually take my hat off to them for that.

Yet, you turn to konami and they just don’t want to know. As much as i love pro evo, I cant help but feel a little angry about the way they conducted themselves, especially to a top site like this which is basically an open forum of ideas, discussions and constructive criticism to a game we all enjoy playing. How are konami not taking full advantage of a place like this?, its the perfect opportunity to speak with us, joe public, the people who BUY their game about anything and everything Pro Evo. I just cant get my head around it.

I’ll probably be getting the game through the door tomorrow, and will sit down and no doubt enjoy the latest addition, but in the back of my mind I can’t help but think what a shambles konami as a company is.

Keep on pluggin away on this mate, at least we all appreciate the hard work you guys put into this site.

For that, I salute you! :D

    Macca

  61. astonian Says:

    Good read Dan,

can i just say though that your section on the abusive posters is slightly counter productive in that you call them “Morons”, this only fuels their desire to desrupt a good cominity of posters.

keep up the good work mate

  62. Talarin Says:

I’m not normally a big fan of the IWP articles, but this was a good read – so well done!

    “Last Gen”

In truth, there’s only so much scope for improving the game on the PS2 platform compared to more modern machines. Bear in mind that we’re talking about a platform which is nearly a decade old – with limited memory and processor power available as a result.

At the same time, if approached properly, there’s no reason why changes to the “next gen” game can’t be reflected in the “last gen” platform – but this will take dedication and some financial commitment from Konami which may not be reflective of the platform’s position in the market.

Personally, I’d expect to see at least one more generation of the game on the PS2 platform, but I’d be surprised if we saw any major engine updates. Konami’s time is always going to be better spent improving/changing the engine on the “next gen” platforms.

I suppose that PC users, like myself, should feel vaguely glad that Konami didn’t go to the EA route and decide that the PC was a old platform not capable of handing the more modern game.

    “Bad Customer Relations from Konami”

Fair play to EA Sports for taking the time to pass you a review copy of FIFA. Konami’s inability to deal with customers outside of Japan has been pretty well documented – especially with regards to the massive letter and the technical complaints about the last incarnation of PES.

I look forward to a compare/contrast article between PES2009 and Fifa09 in the near future.

I’m going to sign off this very long post with my thoughts that no matter whether this PES2009 turns out to be the game that we really should have had last year – it’s still a missed opportunity in terms of the features in the game. The Champions League license and Become a Legend are pretty much the only new additions to the game, and the CL mode was a late addition anyway so we could have had only the Become a Legend as new.

EA and Fifa are obviously are getting their act together. The overall feature list in FIFA is far larger than that of PES. It’s time that Konami stepped up to the plate and starting pushing themselves to deliver.

I work in Game and have copies of both Xbox360 and PS3 versions. Both play well.

  66. Remz Says:

Anyone who has ordered with shopto, just wondering if you have received your copy yet?

  67. ramae Says:

If they gave a PES site a copy of FIFA is because they know they are making a good game. I live in america. fifa is out today. I will get my copy and try it out. Pes is out until november. I will go with the best game. I am a ex FIFA fan who left fifa for winning eleven. Since in america you didnt get the game, bough winning on a trip to europe on 2000 and imported it every year for computer since. Always tryed fifa and simply returned to PES. But We should go for the best game this year. And if FIFA is progressing for the better of soccer games, we are the only winners. If they read our comments, and make progress on their games, that is a winner for us. Konami has never heard what we need. The PES2009 demo is what 2008 should have been. Hope the make a fine game. Then again, I welcome any game that gives us consumers a great play.

  68. Lynham Says:

@ Remz i have mate, 1st class post about 10 this morning

That means another day of making do with FIFA :-(

  74. john Says:

just got pes early from play.com, so did some other people http://ninsox.com/ps3/pes-2009-hands-pro-evolution-soccer-2009/

  75. A-Concerned-PES-Fan Says:

    In addition to #14

I think you’re right about EA is trying to corner the market by squeezing PES out. I just hope it doesn’t happen, because if it happens my days playing footie games on console are over! EA as you mention did this with 2K’s American Football titles by getting exclusive NFL licence and it killed the 2K franchise leaving EA’s Madden as the only American football game on the market. And for a consumer monopoly is never good – as the developer tend to get complacent and save additions and stuff for future titles. This has happened for EA with the NFL franchise. Just as the case with FIFA they had the best looking game graphically but 2K the best gameplay. And with 2K out of the picture, what happened to the Madden gameplay? Nothing!!! You mention that FIFA unfortunately has a football game that is still behind PES in the gameplay department, well the same was the case for Madden and 2K Football and look what happened! Just hope the licensing doesn’t take the life of our precious footie title PES!

  76. Simon McDermott Says:

Game In Devon are receiving Pes 2009 at 1:30 today.
My mate knows one of the guys who works in game and he is letting us have it today, so I should have a copy by 7:00 this evening.
Has anyone got a PS3 copy yet and if so does it play better than the demo?

  77. Anon Says:

To those people that have the game, does it have goalkeeper cursor control as this option was not in the demo?

  78. kostv Says:

I did buy PES2009 yesterday in Holland. It plays very good. the game is far better than PES2008. I cant’t wait till I finished work and can play PES again!!! Everybody have lots of fun with it and if you ask me PES will rule again this year.

  79. Rob Says:

    @ Carlos (22)

I feel your pain buddy. My 360 died a slow and painfull death last week, and is currently still in the shop being “assessed by an engineer”, or so they tell me. It wont be returned until at least next week, and they’ll probably end up ****ing up my hardrive to boot. It died just as I began downloading the Pro Evo demo funnily enough. Seems I am cursed not to play the damn game for a considerable time.

PS Good work with the site and column. If only Konami would pull their finger out then Pro Evo could be everything we all want it to be!

  80. Simon McDermott Says:

    @75 A-concerned-Pes-Fan.

I know what you mean mate, E.A did the same to Sensible World Of Soccer in the 90’s, by grabbing all the licenses and preventing other companies using real names.
Just think ten years ago there were loads of football games around and now Konami is the only company to have survived E.A’s onslaught.
E.A have no interest in making a great game, they only want our money and once the competition is gone, we will have to put up with one substandard football game, that will be the day I quit football games altogether.

  81. shaichico Says:

Hey guys I just popped into EB games (Gamestop) in Sweden and I can see they got it stocked up behind the cashiers desk!!! I’m so gonna get there tomorrow!!! Was even thinking about bribing the girl behind the desk to gimme an early copy!!

    Vive la PES!!!

  82. Rob Says:

    @ Simon

Just a small point. You stated in an earlier post that you dislike it when other people score against you in a football game through cheap means (like centre), yet I personally find this to be true of Pro Evo also. I have lost count of the number of Adriano goals I have suffered from centre kicks and ridiculous dribbles round my whloe defence. I hope this has been adjusted in the new game, as I second your dislike for conceeding in this manor despite dominating the possession and play. I find centre kicks to be strangely easy to both concede and score from on Pro Evo. In any game I would actually prefer to have a centre kick than a free kick, they are that much more dangerous! Aside from penalties I score more goals from centres than any other set piece (except when playing coop). Surely I am not the only one who finds this?

  83. mark james Says:

I just found out yhat I could of received the game today if i had ordered the game yesterday before 5 from shopto.com instead ive ordered it yesterday at about 8pm and hopefully will have it on thursday a day early so lads if u havent ordered it from any where lets get on it.

previous titles like gears of war have all came before the release date so they dont fuk about their pretty good check it out..

    Keep up the good work.

  85. peswarrior Says:

oy REMZ….now that you have the game….tell me about it….am i still LYING…..or is the KONAMI SERVER not yet up?

  86. RobotRodney Says:

Well, ill be gettin my copy of Pes09 on friday morning, cos as from this week, our working days have been reduced to a 4 day week, due to this crunching credit bollocks. It may well be my last ps3 game purchase for a long time, so it better be a good un! Been playing and enjoying the demo this past couple weeks, so lookin forward to it. Its a shame that the ps2 version has been elbowed to one side, and i feel for those who are not on the next gen train, if i hadnt bought mine last year, i now would not be able to afford one, like many poor souls cant now no doubt.

  87. Simon McDermott Says:

    @82 rob

I only noticed cheap goals as of Pes 2008 on both PS2 and PS3.
I didn’t really play them much though, because I went back to PES6 straight away, as the feel of theses two games was not as good as PES6.
Fifa has always had a huge variety of ways you could get cheap goals, while I noticed Konami have worked very hard in the past to eradicate theses types of goals from their franchise.
I never noticed scoring from the centre on Pes before, though I noticed it can be done on this years Fifa.
    Did you mean Pes2008 Ps3,PS2, or 360?

  88. Luke Says:

Who else thinks the pitches look flat in the demo? When you’re playing a game its looks great but for corners or free kicks its very flat, in replays it looks great but i think its the only thing that ruins the graphical side of things. Also the players look as if their skating at times or floating a little. Does anyone know if the pitches are more detailed inthe full game and whether its feels and looks much better?

  89. jedistu Says:

got my copy of pes this morning from play truely is everything we,d hoped for and more .lag free aswell let the good times roll

  90. Anonymous Says:

    jedistu? u played online?

  91. otto Says:

    To: Simon Mcdermtt.

You speek of “Game in Devon”. Is this in South Africa or is it els where?

  92. James Stanyer Says:

I just played th x360 version in Zavvi, Sheffield. the new movement and dynamics make it a fair bit harder, but so much more realistic. i love the new, slower pace of it. the pitches look shoddy it has to be said, but the gameplay is back to it’s best along with improved graphics. still not good enough graphics, apart from face details, but much improved.

im a ps3 user not 360 so perhaps that is part of the reason i struggled a wee bit, pulling off only a 1-0 win vs ac milan as spurs… normally thats a 3-1 sort of win on ps3 pro 2008.

  93. wolvesfan09 Says:

    is the online working guaranteed???
im going to either bribe somebody in the shops or rob the shop to recieve it early!i cant wait until friday after work ha

  94. Moe Sizlack Says:

Goood read dan but you really must stop kissing EA’s arse just because they give you a free copy of fifa,EA are the evil of the games world that would happily put Konami out of business if they could. They would have no problem about putting you behind bars for creating option files for pes, they are even trying to make it against the law to trade old games in.Nobody gets in the way of the EA money making machine.

  95. peswarrior Says:

everybody listen up…it’s been guaranteed that there will be updates online..so no worries about saha and all..also, online gameplay should work excellently, but not perfectly, all as from friday morning…good luck to us all…if u do not take a day off school/work (voluntary/compulsory) on friday, you should be shot in the ass…cant wait to whoop everybody, especially IDLE…..Remember…..PESWARRIOR

  96. Tel Says:

Moe Sizlack – Totally agree with you chap.

Lets get something straight – Konami gave a free copy to WENB. Why??? I have not got a clue, i love this site and rate it more than other PES sites, but they did get a free copy. Perhaps dan needs to get onto them about this.

  97. IDLE Says:

PESWARRIOR – Cannot wait to beat you mate on an online game, i beat you 3-1 in the last version.

So the headmaster will let you out of school for the day???? But mate, you need english lessons…….hahahahaha

  113. MIJKEYO Says:

i been playing pes 09 all day. its ace! couple of transfers aren’t right like berba and bentley etc but once you done that, edit some kits and team names and your away! genius!

div 2 is only 12 teams as well so there is enough teams you can edit to make championship/serie b wotever so its all good

  114. Anonymous Says:

y’all know why KONAMI didn’t give PESGAMING a copy? I think it’s because WENB stands for Winning Eleven Next-Gen Blog, meaning konami’s will always go for WE instead of PES, cos it sounds KONAMISH. so DAN, it doesn’t matter even if by googling PES, PESGAMING comes first, KONAMI will always go for WE, PES is only recognised mostly in Europe, everywhere else, it’s Winning Eleven. Did anyone know they play WE in Africa, and it’s in JApanese. Get the point?

  115. purplebobby Says:

If anyones live in hackney or there abouts there is a dodgy gamestore at the top of mare street at the top of the one way street called games 4u where i got a copy pes 2009 under the counter today! no joke they sell for £50 and it’s well worth it, just ask if they’ve got it at the counter. The full game is much better then the demo smoother with more animations and better gameplay dymamics, transfers aren’t up to date at all, bring on the option files!

  116. Lynham Says:

Lynham_JA if anyone wants a game boys

  117. Rob Says:

    @ Simon (87)

Yeah I was refering to Pro Evo 2008 on both PS3 and Xbox 360, from my personal experience. Its also the same on the new game, from what I’ve seen of the demo. I can nearly always generate a goalscoring chance from a centre by simply dribbling straight towards the goal with the occasional shimmy. I can’t speak for Pro evo 6, as whilst I do own it and have played it a lot, my experience has been replaced by the new games. My memory of older versions is hazy to say the least. And whilst I take huge gratitude in scoring well crafted goals, the vast majority of goals I have scored on Pro Evo have been cheap repetetive goals. I’m sure you know the goals I’m talking about, the through ball down the wing, the run to the byeline, the cutback to the penalty area, and the tap in the net. Or simply “cut-back” goals for short. They are the foundation of Pro Evo scoring. I saw no evidence of the so called ‘teamvision’ in the last game, as the same old strategies always worked. I really want this to change as it devalues many victories.

Yes, peswarrior, some good has come out of my reduced working week, i get to play Pes09 all day this friday, way hay! Sod the world economy, lets all kick virtual balls round virtual pitches while sat in front of our tellys drinkin beer an shoutin at the screen! Im on ps3 by the way, and my ids FinalStrawBoy, if anyone fancies someone to probably whup and embarrass, (thats me by the way), look me up an let me know yer ids. ****, just realised, that id probably wont work on Pes, thanks to konami’s self important, time wasting, naff own id and password system. What a ball ache.

  121. wolvesfan09 Says:

somebody told me that to get the game early you have to tell them you will not play on xbox live or ps equivalent. something to do with serial numbers bein matched and stores being fined!

i know ill be a much happier person if i have it there even if i couldnt play it!!i can sleep again!!

  122. passthedutchie Says:

Actually. Dan can you remove my last post (119). I wouldn’t want to get anyone in trouble.

  126. A-Real-Pes-Fan Says:

Got my copy today as well. The game is sweet! It plays a lot better than the demo, The pitches are better looking too. Played a Champions League, it is awesome. Has found two bugs in it though! I’m not a racist, but it is a bit funny that all the referee’s and the coaches on the sidelines are black when playing CL! The other is that when you get passed the group stages you have 11 substitutes on the bench just like in an exibition game. But appart from that it is really great!

  127. A-Real-Pes-Fan Says:

Oh yeah, when playing in the rain. It looks awesome!

  128. PROBOY Says:

Does anyone know if Anfield or old trafford is in the game, or a look-a-like stadiums?

got my order from shopto and just been playing on xbox live and im not being funny guys the lag is as bad as last yr everytme i tackled someone they just went straight through me and also there is times where u have no clue where the ball is like last yr what a joke for **** sake this game is testing my patience i hope that when the official servers go up at midnight there is no lag then and hope they do as they say reset eveyones points as i just turned off my xbox half way through it was that bad my god can konami not do network games why is it that most companies can do it and they cant if its as bad as my first two games this is getting sold on ebay next week ive given them 2 many chances now.

and i hope you do play both games 4 a couple of weeks be4 writing a review and dont be scared to say what you really think of both games i personally dont really think both are great there both e3qually good but if the lag aint sorted fifa wins and i dont like be a legend that u cant call for a ball well u can but i think itsa jesture only as you dont get the ball unless ur close to the player with the ball which is shocking fifa if you call for the ball they will try and deliver it 2 u im sorry guys two huge faults with the game this yr not sure if i can take it any more

  135. snake Says:

its great such a nice game amazing , its too good , how can i import my musics? (pc)

  136. neil Says:

didnt have pes08, but survived on pes4 and 6 which are the best imo. i managed to get my iss pro evo 2 working for psone as well.

really really cant wait for pes09 havent preordered but might go into Game tomorrow see if i can get it early but friday is just about soon enough.

pes has been far superior to fifa since 2002. fifa 98 road to world cup and fifa 99 and 2000 were classics but konami has taken control

  137. Fuzz Says:

Oh dear. Just found out my copy came from shopto this morning. This night is gonna be madness. Not looking forward to being a zombie at work tomorrow morning!

  138. ste Says:

Oh my god, why can’t i manage to add my own mp3 tracks to pro evo 2009, can someone let me me know how they have done it and how please.

    Cheers

  144. k.foster Says:

me too- game store will ring 1st

  145. tahussle Says:

    OMG!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

Played online on xbox360 and PS3== No lag movement as smooth as PES 6 online days

Love the way you can now choose the server to play on and pick who you want to play

Build up play is much much better no more runing with henry and hitting 1 into the net. I found myself being a little more creative

Even the goalies are much more effecient. I had so many opportunities saved when i know in PES 2008 that would have easily been a goal

…Become a legend? It’s the best. Thanks seabass so far so good. Lets see what happens when everyone starts playing

  146. adamevex Says:

A wise man once said “Beware of Romans bearing gifts.” I think the same applies here.

  147. Remz Says:

peswarrior, suprised they still allow you to post on here. No you were not lying as i did play online. However, you stated that online was poor and lags…i disagree, lag is minimal if at all from my 8 or so games online today. There may be like one instance of lag per game and its really minor compared to 08 and the servers are not officially up and running yet. (konami tell you this when you go online)

  148. Remz Says:

Ste, i added the my tracks to the game. You need to get mp3 files onto your ps3. Make sure they are mp3 not wma files. Then create a playlist from the music section of the ps3 and label the playlist KONAMI_PES. I did this at first and it still didnt work but then i added about 5 tracks instead of 2 and it worked. So try to add a few tracks.

Guys i was on another site browsing hopefully at the off chance an option file might be up. Didnt find anything but i found a site which claims that on friday there will be a patch update for the game which will automatically do all the out of date transfers! This may not be true and only a rumour but quite a few seemed to be talking about it as if it was likely. If so that would be impressive. But then again the transfers should really be up to date anyway.

  149. Remz Says:

this is where i got the ‘news’

    http://www.winningelevenblog.com/2008/10/

  150. adm Says:

I read both PESgaming and what remz posted.

  151. zik Says:

add football manager stats to PES? that’s exactly what it needs. Genius!

  152. Decky Says:

anybody goinna get the ps2 version just because the old gen is so much better then the current gen? 2008 is the worst ever version on ps3,360 but the ps2 version is still brilliant just pure gameplay, im seriously considering this years ps2 version as the demo is an improvement but its not got the gameplay of old gen. only problem could be the amount of people to play online!

  153. gaposto Says:

Well i do believe that the obvious FIFA 09 improvements was also a result of EA people reading and appreciating this site and PES fans views. Then…implementing many of them to re-born the FIFA franchise. Exactly what Konasmi didn’t bother to do at all. No more comments about that.

  154. utd tickets Says:

Looking very nice site and provides good latest updated matter to us.good, keep up it.

  155. Sha Says:

cant ****ing beleive schwarz didnt get in there!! the big german striker who comes into the game as a youngster

    or Halil Altintop

    or Camacho

    you bastards!

  156. pes-fan Says:

Why fernando Torres’s dribbling speed is only 79 and shot technique is 79 ??? he’s one of the fastest striker on earth and very sharp recently. with 79 dribble speed, even drogba, sheva or gallas are faster than him. criminally underrated by konami. also why carvalho stats are better than terry?

  157. Анатолий Says:

Я тоже врямя от времени такое вижу, но как-то раньше не придавал этому никакого значения.
