IWP League Champion 2009: Ivan Kostic (Internacional)

Welcome to this week’s Interfering With Play. Its seems every week now, I am mentioned ‘a busy week for PESGaming.com’ but the truth is everything is starting to fall into place. Publicity is starting to surround the latest release of Pro Evolution Soccer, arguably more so than any of its predecessors, whilst Play.oom has given us a provisional release date of October 30th. I will be very surprised if Konami wait that long to release the game, but I only believe in posting facts and opinions, not rumours and hearsay. The next few weeks and months on this site will no doubt turn into the usual media circus, with pieces of information being fed through, and people writing the game off months before its release. On thing is for sure though, with PESGaming.com, you will only get the truth, it’s something we are very proud of and in my opinion, is the only site you need to visit for news of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. With that said, lets move on to this week’s IWP.

“I Think I Fell For The Girl On TV”

Arguably the worst ever heading to start an article, but also one of the most predictable IWP opening topics ever. The first ‘screenshot’ of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 being made public this week has led to the usual hype, excitement and general good feeling amongst fans of the series. Whereas many gaming franchises tend to release every two years, with sports titles we are truly blessed with yearly updates. If you have not seen the screenshot, it is available in the post below, and unsurprisingly features PES 2009 poster boy, and IWP Player Of The Season Lionel Messi.

At first glance, I am exceptionally impressed by the screenshot. In my opinion, PES 2009 was one of, if not the, best looking football titles ever made, and yet in comparison, this 2010 screenshot looks a completely different world. As to be expected, the feeling is shared amongst many community members, with a renewed faith in what Konami are doing and a quiet belief that this may be a truly next generation experience.

However, I do not wish, for one second, to take this screenshot out of context. What we have on show here is a pre rendered image of Lionel Messi, which shows nothing more than an upper body. Three years ago, Konami released a similar attractive image of Adriano, which to all intents and purposes proved to be some what of a false dawn. This screenshot could have quite easily have been taken from a cut scene or entrance video, and could actually in no way represent the graphics of the end product. The truth is, I have been doing this dance, as so many of you have, with Konami for the past 8 years. I am now at a stage where I need to say in game footage, with real humans playing before I am in a position to make any real comment. Even then, I will hold back my thoughts until the demo or even full game is in my console. I don’t wish to be negative, because in my opinion, Konami have a far better record of pleasing than disappointing (Metal Gear Solid) but I will reserve my feelings on PES 2010, including its final potential, until I have seen more. One thing is for certain though; the PR machine is working, because people are interested in seeing what the latest Pro Evolution Soccer title has to offer!

“When, Will I, Will I Be Famous”

Just a quick reminder, the X Box 360 World Cup Application process ends next Monday. If you wish to take part in the first ever IWP tournament exclusively for 360 gamers, simply e-mail me on the regular IWP address, with your name, age, location and Gamer Tag. It goes without saying, you must have a working, valid X Box Live account, and an up to date copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (running the latest patches). I will post one final reminder over the weekend, but I know there are many 360 gamers who may have missed the opportunity to apply, and I wish to take this time to inform them. If you have any questions about tournament rules, structure or times, feel free to e-mail me.

“You Got The Style”

A huge talking point within the football gaming world is the style in which teams play. It is something that has yet to be really captured within a football game (with one or two exceptions) and the AI fails to give many teams and accurate portrayal. Football Manager definitely comes closest, with its amount of sliders, which in turn are cross referenced with the player stats, that particular game engine makes the most of this to produce a pretty realistic interpretation. However, for years, both Konami and EA Sports have tried, and the most part failed, to find a system that makes for realistic team playing styles.

I am wishing to move away from the AI though, and address an issue I feel is a much overlooked point, and that is how we, as human players, adapt our play styles to the teams we play as. The most obvious examples are usually the best, so I will pick out a couple. If you play as Barcelona, without to much thinking you know you tactics will focus slightly down the right hand side. The pacey combination of Daniel Alves and Messi is far too much for most left backs, and especially if you are a goal down or require a late winner, this route will be one most travelled by the majority of gamers. A similar tale my be said for AC Milan using Kaka, or Manchester United using Ronaldo, get the ball to your danger man and let him do the damage. There may be slight variations on this tactic, for example get in range and give the ball to your best striker then let him shoot. Inter Milan are renowned for this within the PES world.

But what happens when you play as a Stoke City, or Fulham. These are two sides that have had impressive Premier League seasons, picking up victories against some of the leagues biggest clubs and have achieved this by playing a very different way of football. Some gamers may never venture to being these sides, and there are others than will only to come up with the conclusion they are ‘rubbish’, something which the Premier League table would disagree with. I played against Sparta Prague with Stoke City the other night. Now, there is no denying that if I had tried the tactic of running with the ball, I would have had no chance at all. The technical attributes of the Stoke City players make this an impractical game plan, and in the early going, I lost possession every time as I started to adapt. So I hit Formation Settings and started tinkering. Changes were made so I had the tallest players I could in each position, with the exception of James Beattie up front. I pushed my striker as far forward as I could, and gave two of my three midfielders the license to break with the attacking settings. I deployed a deep defensive line, meaning there was little chance of the Sparta players getting in behind my defence, again playing to my strengths. Finally, I ensured my set piece taker was of the highest quality available, and coupled this with sending up my best header of the football for set pieces. In the game, I launched the ball forward to Beattie at every opportunity, allowing him to hold the ball up and bring my midfielders into play. I won 2-0, with both goals coming from set pieces, and never really looked like losing the match.

All of this may sound like a great deal of effort, and to some gamers, they may rubbish claims, but if your want to get the best out of each side, you need to adapt your game tactics, and play to your strengths. Using the tactic of lumping the ball up to Messi would not have worked, but when you’re playing as Stoke, you have the players to use this tactic. Andy Griffiths isn’t going to bomb forward down the line like Alves, but when sitting back and deep, he will stop many crosses getting into the box. At this moment in time, the AI cannot work to this level of human interactive with teams, but it is something that Konami need to look towards, giving the manager claims from the previous IWP further weight. I would like to hear from any of you guys regarding tactical changes, both within match situations or changing the way you play when controlling a specific team.

“I Want To Go”

Another famous heading, but one that is very appropriate. I am still in the process of compiling a couple of videos using PES 2009. A problem with my TV has left me slightly behind schedule, but with a new one of the way, it should be something picks up pace over the next week or two. Therefore, I am looking for great goals from the community to be edited into a cool highlights style package. I have a fair few already, along with some from my personal collection, but obviously the more I have, the longer the video can be. If you would like to be included, you must have a PS3 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, a USB pen and the ability to e-mail! Drop me a message on the usual IWP address and I will send you the relevant information.

“Sing it Loud And Proud”

Finally this week, a great response to the first ‘Big Survey’ on PESGaming.com. The new PES news didn’t stop your getting involved in your hundreds, and the results pretty much supported everything that has been spoken about within the community over the past few months. One thing that is very important to maintain is that with Pro Evolution Soccer, stats can be edited if you feel a player is underrated or has attributes missing; it is totally within your power to change that. The joy of football is that it is based upon opinions and therefore everyone is going to see things that others don’t. I find it very hard to believe that Konami use OPTA stats to rank each Premier League player, and therefore if you feel that Theo Walcott should be faster, or Owen more injury prone, the ball is genuinely in your court!

From the survey, the views given regarding goal keepers were pretty much that mirrored by Double D and the PES Off comments from last week. I don’t wish to tread over old ground too much, so will leave that for Double D. The interesting point was that so many of you actually pay attention to the stats on the game, and allow them to influence your team selection. This for me means Konami need to start making these decisions regarding players as true to life as possible, so when you take charge of a club whose players you are less than familiar, you get as accurate starting eleven as you can.

The biggest thing that came out of the survey though was how you guys feel PES is weighted towards attacking players. Many of you feel that new defensive attributes should be added, and that the current set of statistics lean heavily towards attacking players, in particular wingers. Was surprised me the most though, was that people felt the stats where balanced in favour of players such as Xavi Alonso, Carrick and Fabregas. In my opinion, these players, who are so influential for their club teams, have very little say in the outcome of matches on PES, and this is something that needs to be discussed at a greater length in the next few weeks. Finally, the majority of you were in support of player personalities, an issue that I will go into detail with next week.

These results will now be mulled over by myself, and then be spoken about in greater detail next week. The ‘Big Survey’ is still up and available for completion, and will be throughout this week. This is not a weekly survey, and therefore the next one, regarding the edit modes, will be available for completion in a couple of week’s time.

That’s your lot for this week’s column. As always, I look forward to hearing from you guys either via e-mail or in the comments section, and hope you have read something here that may inspire you to get in touch. As I have mentioned in a previous column, I ask for Amateur to get in touch with me via e-mail, as I have a couple of issues I would like to discus with him. interferingwithplay@hotmail.co.uk is the address you can reach me on.

Thanks for Reading

Completely off-topic, completely uninteresting for any of you & completely making an ass out of myself but it was strangely enough the first thing that sprang to mind after reading Dans’ column:

I actually bought that Bros 12inch for a quid last week…Shame on me, but apart from collecting PES titles, I collect 12inches from the 80s as well (guess Ill never be famous myself then…:-))

  4. Anonymous Says:

I can’t believe some peoeple say that Fabregas is a relevant player in PES09.

In my opinion players like Riquelme and Fabregas are very diminished in PES09, they have no unique features… everything Riquelme does Messi can do better.

It’s just one-dimensional and unrealistic, there’s no Consistency in terms of Stats. At times Roberto Carlos is a better Passer than Riquelme… Leo Messi makes a better Defensive Midfielder than Makelele… etc, etc…

This is all indication that some Stats, such as Passing Accuracy, are not working properly. It also indicates that Pro Evo would benefit if New Stats are implemented.

Defensive Stats are a must in my opinion.

I really like how things are shaping up… those Surveys will make a huge difference at the end of the year.

    ARSENAL
    formation 4-2-1-3

    clichy[LB],sagna[RB](arrow up)
    toure and gallas [CB]
denilson and fabregas [DMF] (arrow up bothsides)
    nasri[AMF](arrow straight up and left)
    arshavin[LWF] (arrow straight up)
van persie[RWF] ( arrow straight up and left)
    Eduardo [ arrow up bothsides]

    advantage of this formation:
    1) very well you can pass it around
    2) easily you can intercept passes
    3) while you have to defend the corner, you can see arshavin and van persie really unmarked and open in either wings
    4) for any opponent formation … when your corner is cleared you can again gain possesion easily
    5) whenever RWF or LWF takes the ball near the box… AMF will surely swap the place ahead you … so easy through pass without getting offside

this formation works very well for many teams which dont have wingers and danger man

this formation will also suit for ATLETICO MADRID,VALENCIA,PARIS ST.,HOLLAND and CROATIA
this is the formation I’ve been playing since PES 6 ..works fine for me

  9. Amateur Says:

Just thought I would like to share my current work on the new stats for pes 2010. It has taken up a lot of my time but if you guys like it then I will post it to Konami

Remember it is still a work in progress

I’m going to post just a few of the Stats that I’ve come up with… but before doing it I want to explain a bit about Why I think this STATS would be a good addition.

    ——————————————————–
Pro Evolution Soccer does NOT haves:

    * Enough differences between “Balance” and “Strength”.

    * Enough differences between “Sprinting with the Ball” and “Dribbling with the Ball”.

    * Enough differences between “Acceleration” and “Explosiveness”.

Acceleration: determines how fast a player reaches his Top Speed… But is “Dribbling with the Ball” and “Running with the Ball” the same thing??

No they aren’t, when you Sprint with the ball you usually go for Open Spaces. On the other hand when you Dribble with the ball you do it because you don’t have any spaces to run into.

There’s a difference between “Knocking the ball forwards” and actually Dribbling with the ball.

Zinedine Zidane Dribbled with the ball through small spaces -whereas- on the other hand, Thierry Henry Sprinted with the ball by Knocking it forwards into Open Spaces so he could exploit his Top Speed.

Explosiveness and Technique are more important when Dribbling with the ball. On the other hand; Top Speed and Acceleration are more important when Sprinting with the Ball.

When you Accelerate you cannot Dribble: you have to Dribble 1st and Accelerate 2nd -and- when you dribble with the ball you use your Explosiveness.

Explosiveness: is that thing you use when you start dribbling in front of an opponent, you Dribble 1st and Accelerate 2nd -but- because you’re not really running you’re not really “accelerating”. You are actually using your explosiveness.

When you Shift from a Stationary stance to a 100% Sprint: you are not using your Acceleration because you are not Running.
    ——————————————————–

Here are some of the Stats that I’d like to see:

    * Strength: determines for how long the player can protect the ball when “posting up” and when “dribbling at a slow pace”. This attribute is important when Stationary or dribbling slowly.

    * Slow Dribble: determines accuracy when Dribbling at a Slow Pace. This attribute is directly linked with Strength.

    * Posting Up Ability: determines the ability to create space with the use of the body -when- Stationary. This attribute is directly linked with Strength.

    * Balance: the player holds the ball better when going at high speeds. This attribute haves little to do with Strength.

    * Sprinting with the ball: determines the accuracy when Dribbling at High Speeds. This attribute is directly linked with Balance.

    * Explosiveness: determines the burst in Acceleration when Dribbling with the Ball, when “Cutting the Ball” -and- when Shifting from “Stationary into Movement”. This attribute is more relevant when Dribbling at a Slow Pace -and- In Small Spaces like the Penalty Area.

    * Acceleration: determines how fast a player reaches his Top Speed -once- the player is actually Running with the Ball. This attribute is more important when you have the space to exploit it.

    * Inside Cut: determines the accuracy when a player “Cuts the Ball” with the Inside of the Foot. This attribute is directly linked with Explosiveness.

    * Outside Cut: determines the accuracy when a player “Cuts the Ball” with the Outside of the Foot. This attribute is directly linked with Explosiveness.

My Opinion: I think those STATS would establish some fundamental differences that cannot be defined with the current set of Stats and Special Abilities. If these stats are implemented I think we can finally pro evo back to its simulation roots, making more like real life football!

i thought the admins could find out who was doing it and ban them?
you need to sort it out because the sites turning into a joke.

  18. hugzinton Says:

I like the ideas ‘real’ amateur but some of them could maybe be called something else like the cut in and cut out. Maybe sidestep or ball turn (just ideas). Also Pes needs to start treating keepers as a separate species with a vast range of stats such as; handling, shot stopping, braveness, flexibility, reflexes, kicking power, palming/ punching etc. They should also have some of the basic stats such as Top speed etc.

  19. Dave O Says:

I don’t even know what to say. “Whoever” posted #9 though needs to read the Piggyback interactive guide for PES. 90-% of that is already covered by the existing stats.

For example: strength = body balance, slow dribble = dribble acc, balance = agility.

I have no idea how to comment though because it could be either Amateur or Wamateur.

Dan – Let me know if you have any thoughts about what we discussed about the site last week. I think it should work, but I will need your help in capturing images on your PS3.

  20. Rob Says:

Dan Bolas or anyone else – Can I invite you to comment on my post regarding an increase on ML teams and non recycled new players from my previous post? it’s an issue I feel should be huge, but doesn’t seem to get the attention I deem it worthy of. Copied here:

“I still don’t understand why no-one else seems to be clamouring for what I see as some really obvious and series-changing additions. I mean – OK, classic players, net movements etc are nice, but.. first, let’s nail the gameplay and improve the general look..

BUT THEN – please please please, why not chuck in a load more editable leagues? Even unlicensed? It’s little more than an inconvenience to us now anyway, as patches etc are out in days. Adding enough, and making it customisable enough so you can have up to even 4 divisions within a league – with the full compliment of team numbers – would be a huge, huge thing – increasing the scope and scale of the game for players across the world. Master League could very easily accomodate 5 or 6 leagues running with 2-4 divisions in each. I simply refuse to understand how this could be that difficult to implement, and it would make verything – everything – better. Even FA cup style things would be great, and moving up more divisions, too, would be awesome.

Another thing – when will we see a load of random player names chucked in? Am I the only one who thinks that recycled names and images really strat to get in the way of suspension of disbelief in longer game modes such as BAL and ML? It’s annoying. Just record a load of generic names, again, hardly takes space these days – and allocate random potentials and likenesses. It’s so easy to do, but would make a huge change.”

  21. Amateur Says:

    @ Dave O, Post 20.

That post was posted by Wamateur -but- almost every word is mine.

And no, nothing of that is covered by the current set of Stats and Special Abilities.

There is NO difference at all between Knocking the Ball Forwards and actually Dribbling with the Ball. There’s no difference at all in this respect -and- I don’t need a Piggyback interactive guide to tell me what I need to know.

I simply play the game like it was meant to be played and also exploit all the flaws within the game… by doing that I draw my opinions.

By the way, in Real-Life Agility haves nothing to do with Balance. You need to only look at Luka Modric: agile, but he doesn’t haves outstanding balance nor explosiveness.

Posting Up haves little to do with Balance, it haves more to do with Strength.

    Dribbling Accuracy = Slow Dribble??

So what determines the Dribbling Accuracy when going at High Speeds?? The mixture of Dribbling Accuracy + Dribbling Speed I suppose?

That is completely inaccurate… Leo Messi haves more accuracy than Zinedine Zidane when going at High Speeds. On the other hand Zinedine Zidane haves better accuracy when going at Slow Speeds.

When going at Slow Speeds you can do more Dribbles like: the Roulette, the Drag Back, Flicking the Ball over an opponent, etc, etc… this are things that cannot be done when Dribbling at Full Speed.

Have you ever seen Leo Messi doing a Roulette or a Drab Back??

Therefore we need a STAT to determine the effectiveness of all those dribbles that players use when Dribbling Slowly -and- also a STAT for determining the effectiveness/accuracy of the limited amounts of dribbles that one can use when going at Full Speeds.

How can I have that with the current Stats??

And Top Speed, Acceleration, Agility… there’s no Stat for Explosiveness -which- is a very important attribute.

Maradona, Leo Messi, Johan Cruyff, George Best… not the fastest of players, but very explosive in short sprints -and- when shifting from Stationary into Motion. They stood out because of their Close Control and Explosive Dribbling.

That is if you do understand The Difference between “Acceleration” and “Explosiveness”.

    Also…

I don’t know why anyone would say that Agility = Strength. It just doesn’t makes any sense -because- Agility and Strength are completely different things.

Agility can equal better mobility… but in no way should Agility = Strength. I fail to see any logic on this.

Which again shows that the Stats are out of date… as simple as that, this can happen when you use the same identical Stats for over 7 to 10 years.

We need more differences between Strength and Balance. We need more differences between:

    * Stationary / Posting Up.
    * Shielding Technique.
    * Dribbling Slowly.
    * Dribbling at High Speeds.

We don’t have accurate differences in this respect. In my opinion the “Dribbling Accuracy” Stat is the most one-dimensional thing I’ve ever seen.

As a gifted Dribbler of the ball myself, I can tell you that it is completely ridiculous to have ONE STAT for “Dribbling Accuracy”. It’s completely inaccurate.

It is even more one-dimensional to have everyone from Leo Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo to Juan Roman Riquelme -dribbling- in the same exact manner.

  22. Amateur Says:

    @ mroc13, post 25.

I am not an idiot. It is just that people continue to copy my work and post it as their own. This website has no way to solve this and well it is making the site look silly!

Anyway I hope they quit doing it now as it is not only immature, but also quite sad also

  23. Amateur Says:

    @ Rob, Post 26

I agree, it’s important… but to be fair, Konami already hinted that:

“the Master League elements in PES 2010 have been bolstered by far-ranging and vital new additions, dedicated to enriching the mode”

I’m guessing that means more Leagues and Players.

  24. Rob Says:

I sincerely hope so, whichever amateur you may be.

It just seems so, so obvious to me.

It has numerous pluses – increases scope and scale of every mode, increases national and global appeal, corrects one of the oldest ‘fifa wins’ problems to an extent.. and I truly fail to believe that the core mechanics of the game remain written in such a way to make this too hard to implement. If it is, then it needs rewriting. Adding even 100 extra club teams shouldn’t be hard, and it shouldn’t take much data either, certainly not for anything other than commentary names – which with compression couldn’t amount to that much more!

I think that, pound for pound – this change would easily have the greatest yield versus effort ratio.

  25. Amateur Says:

    Post 29 was really me.

    However: 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 28 -are- not the ‘real’ Amateur.

Personally I haven’t really been annoyed with the lack of Leagues… but mostly because I cannot get past 7 games of PES09. So I never really play it enough to notice all this ML-Flaws.

But yeah, I agree it must be very annoying once you play 3 to 4 seasons of ML Football.

  26. Rob Says:

So do you not actually play the game?

I just think it adds realism and depth if you have ML and BAL modes with more chances for ups and downs, etc. It’s daft knowing that you can’t go down, for example. Also, even in normal league and cup modes, more teams would make it possible to have huge FA cup style jobs. Much better.

  27. Amateur Says:

Yes I do play the game… I played like 3 seasons of ML and a play it against a couple of mates every now and then.

How else would I criticize a game I do not understand?? I’m not that type of person.

But you know after the first 3 seasons of ML… it was all downhill after that -instead- of growing on me, I hated the game more and more after every play.

It’s just a “Dumbed Down” experience. It’s too easy and one-dimensional. I cannot get past 7 games because I can’t stand it, it’s a bad game IMO.

I do agree however, that it haves a lot to do with the fact that I’ve grown in this respect. I don’t think PES5 or PES6 are good enough anymore. And I also think PES09 and FIFA09 are well out of date.

So I’m pretty much waiting at the moment. Maybe play a couple of games here and there… but nowhere near the PES-Addiction of PES5/PES6.

  28. Amateur Says:

I meant to say Why would I criticize a game I do not understand… there would be no point IMO. I’m no the type of person who likes to criticize something -without- actually understanding it.

  29. Dave O Says:

Anyway… For anyone who hasn’t read the Piggyback guide, I highly recommend it. If you can’t get your hands on a copy, though, the definitions of what the stats mean are actually in the game, they just don’t go into as much detail about what they do, or cross reference them to the moves list. Either way, I think it’s clear that “strength” = body balance in PES. I don’t have time to explain what all of the other stats do, but like I said, a lot of what you’re saying sounds like it’s covered by the curret stats system, just not as direct stats. In other words, each stat does many things, not just one – FACT ;)

That being said, I think you’re right about dribble accuracy vs high speed dribble accuracy being a problem, though it is actually correctable within the current system. I’ve mentioned this in the past and it is one area that I think could benefit from a new stat. The problem is that a player with high dribble acc actually runs slower with the ball than one with lower dribble acc but the same top speed/dribble speed, because they take more (i.e. more accurate) touches. This is corrected by increasing dribble speed (something to keep in mind when creating players or in BAL), so that basically the combination of dribble accuracy and dribble speed determines how you run with the ball. Top speed and acceleration matter of course as well.

  30. Amateur Says:

    @ Dave O

Please enlighten me as to Why Roberto Carlos many times gives much better Passes than Riquelme??

Please explain me Why Leo Messi is a better Defensive Midfielder than Javier Mascherano…

Please explain me Why everyone in the game can do those very responsive and twitchy “Fake Shot” dribbles.

Please explain me Why everyone in the game dribbles in the same exact manner. Leo Messi doing Roulettes and Step Overs – very realistic.

Please explain Why there’s barely any difference at all between Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and Robinho.

Perhaps, after 7 to 10 years of use – the current set of Stats and Special Abilities is not good enough anymore. Could it be that Times are Changing??

I don’t think Dave O wrote the game, matey.

  32. Dave O Says:

Actually, I did ;) They call me “Albatross.”

    No, actaully. Lame joke…

Anyway, yeah, I agree about the fake shot and how everyone dribbles the same. I’m not arguing that.

I haven’t personally used Messi as a DMF, but I tend to use defenders, with really strong arial abilities and defensive abilities in that role. Best DMF I’ve ever used was a “converted” Anton Ferdinand. One thing I’de like to see, as mentioned before, is to have the ability to actually have players in ML learn new positions.

I can’t speak about Mascherano, because I haven’t used him in the game, but as for Messi, I think his defensive rating woudl be way too low to play that role effectively (in the usual sense). The higher defensive rating not only makes the player better positionally, but when it comes to tackling as well. So, he honestly wouldn’t be as good in that role as a player who is better suited to that position. His speed would help, but he would need good body balance as well, which he probably has but not as good as most defenders (this helps in the ability to shove attackers off the ball).

    @ Dave O

The point remains that there is very little difference in each players dribbling.

In reference to your Messi point his speed makes him well suited to the defensive midfielder role as he is able to track down and tackle other players.

In terms of his body balance he does not need it due to his speedy nature.

This is why new stats are needed in the new pro evo to give the game a new feel.

    @ Dave O

Yeah Post 29 was not really me, yet again. But I do agree with the comments said.

I have used the likes of Leo Messi and Sergio Aguero -and- they both make world class defenders because of their good Top Speed/Acceleration/Agility and Balance.

In my opinion, the game is lacking plenty of “off-the-ball” Stats. We needs Tactical Stats for each position. Being a good Defender doesn’t necessarily means being a good Defensive Midfielder.

It was always going to happen… I mean, Konami has been using the same exact Stats and Special Abilities for almost a decade now. Eventually they will have to add a couple of New Stats and Special Abilities into the game.

  35. pla Says:

completely agree with amateur about the stats. attacking players such as messi and c ronaldo are the best on the game in ALL positions.
i think the most important new stats need to be in defensive areas like defensive positioning, tackles, slide tackles, marking etc. but the ones youve mentioned with dribbling and passing are also essential to allow players like fabregas and carrick to have more impact.

  36. Amateur Says:

    @ pla

Definitely… the Defensive side of the game is the one that needs it the most. To be perfectly honest, I still don’t get why Konami refuses to turn “Marking” and Tackling” into Stats. How hard can it be??

And Defensive Positioning should most definitely be a Stat…

With more Specific Stats we would have more differences between Individuals and therefore Teams. Which is something that PES09 clearly lacks.

Anyways, I’m glad someone agrees with me on this matter.

  37. Amateur Says:

    @ pla

Post 37 was not actually me.

It seems the fake Amateur has some important points in terms of stats, so I agree with him.

  38. Amateur Says:

Post 38 was not me,but i agree with him that the fake Amateur has some important points in terms of stats.

honestly, how difficult must it be to implement a log in system for this site??? jesus christ, it’s just pathetic. regardless…why doesn’t the real amateur just comment under a new name?? for the sake of his internet credibility??? do me a favour…
anywaaaay, the stats do need to overhauled…whether they will or not, who knows. as with everyone, im thrilled with the new in-game pic of messi…but i do have a sense of apprehension if the game looks fantastic and plays like it has for the last couple of years…however, from what ive heard from the guys at WENB, it’s back on form…lets hope so!!

  40. toomerj Says:

ha..and now someone has copied my name. it’s funny because Dan obviously knows who is who because he has all the email addresses for each member, and he’ll definitely know this is really me because my email address correlates with my username quite obviously. I’m also sure he must know the IP address of the guy who keeps doing it, so questions must be raised as to why this situation hasn’t been resolved sooner.

this is all sounding kinda similar to the wenger situation at arsenal don’t you think?! dan…don’t leave for WENB, (madrid)..stay here and nurture your baby! haha :)
