IWP League Champion 2009 : Ivan Kostic (Internacional)

Welcome to this week’s Interfering With Play. Following the honest reports by both Double D and Francis of their experiences with Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, I feel we are at a stage now whereby the time for suggesting improvements is done, for this year at least. The build the game the boys played was around 70% complete, and if my experience tells me anything, it is that Konami will be probably working on a nearer 90% complete version as I type. The game is at most two months away, and for this reason, with review copies and press information aside, a final version needs to be ready for production in around four weeks. Making suggestions regarding what you would like to see in PES2010 would just be a waste of your effort now, and I strongly suggest you wait until this version has been released, and look towards PES 2011 for any future features you would like to see included. With this said, having read the views of both guys, I continue with my anticipation of PES 2010 and genuinely am excited about the game I will be playing in a number of weeks time. With this said, lets move on with this week’s IWP.

“I’ll Show You A Good Time”

Masi started the comments on last week’s Interfering With Play with a number of interesting views. His first regarding the lack of ‘official’ game play videos is one that could be taken with a certain level of concern. Whilst these play tests do raise awareness and get the community talking, seeing HD video footage of the game would definitely provide gamers with a better idea of what Konami are working towards. With this said, however, other major gaming franchises, such as Assassin’s Creed and even Modern Warfare, keep their game play videos very close to the chest during the final months prior to release. The same could also be said for PES’ great rival, FIFA, which also keeps videos showing actual in game footage to a minimum.

The other issue raised by Masi which got me thinking was regarding Konami’s handling of the PR towards PES 2010. It is an issue that is very close to my heart as this time last year; I felt the PR from Konami was exceptionally poor. In the lead up to PES 2009, I had a number of e-mails and chats with various people from both EA Sports and Konami, and of the two, it was unsurprisingly EA that were the more polished. Konami seemingly passed the buck from one person to another, not really wishing to acknowledge us as a community. This, of course, has completely changed this time out. Not only have Konami kept us up to date and involved during the development stage, but they have included us in PR events and sent us press releases throughout the year. As the PR road show picks up pace, I expect more information, images and even videos of what to expect this year, and hopefully a reviewable copy of the game prior to its release. Should this be the case, I will be more than satisfied that Konami are taking huge steps in the right direction with their Public Relations, and hopefully this will be a trend that is set to continue.

Regarding release dates, I can only make one point that the earlier a game is given a release date, the more chance it is that the date will be changed, usually being pushed backwards. Sites such as Play.com are given ‘pencilled in’ dates for release, which are subject to change, but until the company comes out and confirms them, these are not official. Games like Grand Theft Auto IV suffered criticism for its delays, and I would rather have Konami hold back a few weeks on announcing a release date in order to ensure they don’t have to delay it further down the line.

If you have anything to comment on or discuss regarding Konami’s PR set up this time out, please feel free to do so in the comments section, or via e-mail.

“How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria”

One of the most anticipated features of PES 2010 is the online mode. For the past few years, online gaming in PES has been a huge let down. We have spent many column inches and many hours debating the problems, and hopefully that Konami have taken on board these criticisms to make the game both playable and enjoyable. However, two problems that plague any sports game online will still be present, and therefore the next paragraph is asking the question what can be done to stop these issues ruining the online gaming experience.

Disconnections are something that both Francis and Double D have spoke about in some detail, and are arguably the most annoying part of any gaming experience online. In games like Call Of Duty or Halo, if an opponent disconnects it doesn’t really matter, as there are usually a number of other gamers involved in the match to carry on. In a one on one gaming experience though, as soon as one gamer decides enough is enough, and disconnects, the game has to end, and this can prove to be exceptionally frustrating for the player left remaining. Especially if they are winning be a large margin. At the moment, games use a DNF (Did Not Finish) % to let future opponents know of disconnections, and most games give the result as a 3-0 victory to the remaining gamer. So therefore, if you quit when losing 5-0, you will only end up with a 3-0 loss on your record. The other issue with this is if the game disconnects due to a connection error, power cut or simply a problem with your console, you end up a 3-0 loss at a time when you may have actually been winning the game. So how can this be solved? Is it solvable? Instead of having to disconnect, maybe you could give gamers the opportunity to walk away at any time in the match, and offer the game to their opponent. It is an area that I have been researching and looking into, but before I go any further, I would love to hear the suggestions of you guys.

The second point is one I touched upon last week, the Barcelona v. Real Madrid scenario. As a Wolves fan, I am going to want to play as my boys online from time to time, being fully aware they would have no chance of beating a Real Madrid or Barcelona in a one on one match. No matter how good I am at the game, a novice could pretty much destroy my defence with Messi or Ronaldo every time, meaning I would then have to resort being a top side in order to get some kind of win %. And it becomes a vicious cycle. Perhaps splitting teams into categories could solve this. When creating a match room, you could specify which category of time is welcome in it and then the two gamers could chose from teams within that category. For example, category 6 might be a game of Wolves against Stoke, whereas category 2 could be Aston Villa against Everton. This could also be left open for free rooms, which allow any team to play any team, or no higher / lower rooms, whereby you could specify which categories to choose from, in other words teams from categories 2, 3 or 4. This is just a suggestion, and I would really like to hear your views on it, or if you have a better way of keeping it fair. As always, comment in the usual way.

“Straight To, The Wild Wild West”

I am pretty sure I have said this before, and it may have been this time last year, but I must reiterate this point for you guys. Wikipedia is not fact, it can be edited by whoever, adding whatever they like. When writing about video games, some people add rumours onto Wikipedia in order to make them sound more authentic, and when it comes to things such as lists of stadiums or teams, these can be changed by anyone! The simple solution is to not use Wikipedia for any of your research upon PES, and use the sites like PESGaming instead. We only report the facts, and as soon a confirmed list of teams and stadiums are available to us, it will be on the main page of this site. I would hate for fans of the game to be disappointed because they have read something on Wikipedia that is just not true.

“It’s The Final Countdown”

The pieces are in place now for the new PESGaming.com site. It has taken slightly longer than planned to get everything into position, but hopefully the site will be new and live over the next 7 days, PES news permitting. Whilst the site will be changing, it will still be the same people, the same sources and exactly the same content, offering the latest news and views of PES in an impartial, honest and truthful way. If you would like to be involved in the new look PESGaming.com, please feel free to e-mail me on the address below for more information.

That’s your lot for this week. I know Double D and Francis have provided a lot of information regarding their play tests, so make sure you scroll down to check all that out. interferingwithplay@hotmail.co.uk is the place to send your e-mail to, and I do y very best to respond to as many as possible. Applications for the IWP league 2010 are still ongoing, and I will give a bit more information about how the league works in next week’s Interfering With Play.

Thanks for Reading

Just a quick question. You mentioned the appearance of the site changing over the next week or so. Will this be the whole site, or just the front page and not the forums?

that a great idea dan, category of teams will be useful, what they should do is have some sort of stat system that sums up your team and put them into stars 5 to half a star team just incase they do manage to put edit teams in the online game witch i always bang on about, cause i have a super team witch i hand picked one by one with friends, and its good enough to go into the 5 star category, obviously i would only play people that want edited team option on like friend friends with hand picked super teams.

  5. Lolo4 Says:

My only problem in point of online was/IS THE LAGGGG. That is far more frustrating than, winning or losing a game by disconnection. If this is fixed, then I`m really looking forward playing online matches. It isn`t such a big deal if you are winning, lets say 8:0 and the guy decides to quit (or scores 3 own goals), so the game goes to DNF and you get 3:0 instead 8:0. But when you played over 300 matches it really doesn`t matter. What really matters is the quality of the games and that means no warping, teleporting, disappearing and other staff that made you go WTF?!?!?

I really hope it will be in stores by the 23.10.!! Can`t wait till than:)

  6. T.J Says:

great ideas Dan. but wikipedia cant just be changed by any one anymore, they have a lock on major things now so no-one can come and change them (e.g. Michael JAckson, Beyonce, Pro Evo 2010). So for that reason there is a TALK PAGE for people to just write whatever they want and what they know about the page

  7. j22 Says:

I agree with the category team selection, gets boring being the same teams although some people like the david vs goliath secnario.
I take fellow gamers disconnecting as a compliment, does no harm to my score.

  8. hitman Says:

any news on being able to apply for other managers jobs during or at the end of a season?

how are the goal nets? is there different styles and colours for each team?

does the turf cut up as the game progresses ?

are there any new camera angles and have konami put in the camera tilt option again for this game?

    many thanks

  9. landmoose Says:

Another point on Wikipedia dan if there isnt a source for the information its fine to be sceptical but when there is a given website from which the information is being sourced, you can check how legitimate it is by seeing the original material its effectively quoteing, and it mostly always stands up as fact.

  10. TCBULLET Says:

    Morning Gentlemen!

I have to agree with Lolo4, the lag is the big concern for me & also most of my mates for this years PES! Players disconnecting is just part & parcel of online gaming & no matter what it will carry on, although I think that if the result at time of disconnection is higher than 3-0 that result should stand…….

As for Dans idea of categorizing teams, it is something I would welcome, I often try to go the Gers while online only to be up against Barca/Man U……..I have never been one of these gamers that sticks to playing only as Inter or Brazil so it frustrates me when I come across these players that are not interested in a bit of variation! The old option to randomly generate a team was always good banter when playing with mates over a few tins Henieken so that would also be a welcome addition online……

But first and foremost fix the lag, it isn’t too much to ask is it?!?!?

  11. Shoayb_MUFC Says:

I think for the issue on players quitting a match, there should be an option to walk away/forfeit the game, which then gives the opposition the win.

Good idea on the category of the team. This would give players a chance to play against similarly ranked teams, which would result in a much fairer match. Everyone would want to be Real Madrid now, no disrespect, but say the opposition is Stoke or Hull, it would end up being a one sided match.

    Looking forward to playing PES2010!!

  12. lampard8 Says:

i don’t think the whole category system is necessary but when creating a match room you should have to put in the team you wish to play as and when someone is looking through the match rooms and he sees someone who wants to play as real madrid he may want to avoid them but if he see’s someone playing as say fulham then he might want to give them a game as west ham or something. And there is another online problem that everyone seems to overlook, every player is much slower then in exhbition mode. I like to use messi or other pacy players speed to get a cross in down the wing but i can’t do it in online even with swp or ronaldo, wondering if they were gonna fix that up this year

  13. Bopez Says:

I hope the lag is fixed, but I also hope the whole CPU controlled players clearing the ball/ making challenges on your behalf stops too. Also I hope they removed the assisted/ semi assisted choices on controller setting. Its annoying you cant choose the custom level of control you used to. The player selection process in PES2009 was the worst to date.

    Cant wait!

  14. Bopez Says:

Oh I also hope you can choose to have an online game with all the players on max condition instead of random or normal. This is how I normally play with my mates so its a bit silly they dont at least give us the choice.

  15. Edot Says:

lampard8, the problem with your suggestion, is, if you pick a team like fulham and wait in a room, someone coming in with a team like real madrid may see it as an easier win and play you, still making it kind of unfair.

  16. IVAR Says:

    PES is for babies.

  17. lampard8 Says:

edot, not if they keep the option to kick someone out of the room

  18. Rastroll Says:

i’d like to know if there are any changes to BAL mode. What annoyed me was that even winning every trophy and individual award didn’t guarantee my player a place in the team. When the season ended my team would not renew the contract.

  19. Rastroll Says:

    http://kotaku.com/5349453/metal-gear…games/gallery/

This article made me laugh, they claim Messi’s nickname is “la pulpo” and translate it as the flea. When in fact pulpo means octopus. La pulga is messi’s nickname. Also a bit further down they refer to maradona as madonna lol.
I also read they were basing the online mode on pes6. Apparently Pes 6’s online mode was perfect. should we be worried by this statement??

  20. wolvesfan Says:

    great article mate
i think you are right and wrong regardin wolves online.
i am goin to play with them all the time as its the first time us pes fans can use them. i m sure they wont have a hope stats wise but i have picked poor teams before and won a lot using tactics ect eg pes 09 i picked portsmouth west ham online and was beating real.

but i do understand eveyone will pick real and barca just like last year it was barca and utd
however i think by picking super wolves everytime you will know the players of by heart : )

  21. Gooda becks Gangee Says:

WOLVES FAN i AGREE WITH you in pes its about team caracteristics in fifa its about licences , FACT PES IS MUCH MORE ENTERTANIN THAN IFA AND THIS WILL B MORE FACTUAL IN PES 2010

  23. Gooda becks Gangee Says:

FIFA players feel plastic ,in pes players are brought to life

  24. Rob Says:

On the odd occasion I could be bothered to play 09 online
I always came up against someone wanting to be Barca and NEVER any other team, therefore, apart from the terrible lag,I never played much online.
Another thing dissapointed me about being online you could’nt take your edited teams there which I thought was a great shame.

  25. SteveM Says:

I need to step in here…

There will be no need to delay the game, as there is a period where all content has to be nailed down so it can be submitted to Sony for approval.

This is where the game is vigorously bug tested, and Sony and Konami work closely to remove all the problems. By the time it is submitted, all the content is in. All the graphics engine elements will be working, and everyhing will work in conjunction with everything else. After submission, any other problems found by Sony will also be taken care of.

What you have to bear in mind, is that this submission will be quite soon. Which means that Konami has had since the 75% build to refine, improve, and hone. Forget whatever problems you have heard about the gamescom version. It had to be submitted early, so was very old. This is not Seabass or anyone’s fault, it is how the show likes to work.

There seems to be needless panic on here, and for no reason. Consider this: we are still honing now. We have a much bigger team working on every part of PES 2010. After working so closely with the PES fan base, do you not think that the team are monitoring such worries?

Don’t worry needlessly. At least wait until the next gold build comes out, rather than getting concerned over the truncated GC build or Adam’s concerns about code which is already six weeks old…

    Steve

  26. pla Says:

Categorising teams is definitely need for online as it gets so boring playing against the same few teams over and over.
It would be good if for ranked games you were assigned random teams of a similar level rather than picking your own teams. So one game you might have Real vs Barca and the next game you could get Bolton vs Portsmouth etc. Then it would really show who is better because youd have to adapt your tactics and playing style to different teams of different abilites every game.

  27. I’ve heard he’s having an operation to have his hands sewn back on..What a shtoomer that is!’ Says:

First, this is ‘Anonymous aka the crock’, changed my name to a more fitting one, seeing as the commentary will not have been overhauled for the next edition of PES.

This is a disappointment, hopefully in 2011 we can get the improved gameplay with improved presentation, rather than just one or the other…

My main concern is that with the Master Leage revamp, the BAL mode has been neglected – the master league is always where the most hours go when playing PES, but i thin that BAL has much potential if it is tweaked, with the gameplay and camera sorted in game, better ‘live vision cam’ importing of faces etc.

I also think that the Edit mode (once one of the greatest features of PES) could be given more depth, as it had in PES5.

Commentary – ‘remind him not to catch my wages’ lets improve please konami…pretty pretty please with a cherry on top?!!??!

As always i cannot wait for the new PES to arrive on the shelves, and will be pre-ordering on play.com yet again for release day arrival, sometimes even a day before…

  28. hugzinton Says:

    Just a random thought…

Don’t u guys think it would be wise to give a pre-release version of Pes 2010 to established option file makers and editors such as that Von guy. Then people like me, (who are too lazy to edit all the kits), could get a superb OF on release day or atleast around that time.

Also really hope they have made the face importation feature much more accurate and realistic and that we can add facial hair to our created players. Also would love to see that feature return where we could choose 4 teams and a random squad would be chosen from those teams… Was great fun! :)

  29. news Says:

This is whay people think of FIFA:

    Crowd Realism!
Im tellin you, this is amazing. The crowd attendences do vary depending on form. The colours of the home team are scattered around the stadium. Good thing is say the home team is Chelsea and you play Bayern at Stamford Bridge, There would be lots of blue and perhaps just 1 or two bays of red in the corner. Pretty realistic i think. The crowd animations are much smoother. The reactions to goals, cards etc are good. I can tell you this because i used instant replay for goals as you cant tell with the camera on most normal replays. Overall the crowds in FIFA10 are defenantly the best yet.

    Freedom in Physical Play!
One of my favourite features. This feature was one of the best because it made it much tougher to get through the defence. I played as Bayern and managed to get one on one with John Terry. I tried to go around him. I did but he came back with pace and went shoulder to shoulder with my attacker. I was ready to shoot, but he pushed my player away from the ball so the keeper could easily take the ball. This looked realistic because it was as if the defender was s****ding the ball from me to the keeper. Loved it. My player didn’t fall so there were no appeals.

    Referee’s!
Speaking of appeals. I managed to make a run into the box with Andreas Iniesta. I was one on one with John Terry. I got passed him and tried to run around the keeper as he charged out. I tapped the ball past him and he took my player down. A few players on my team near the incedent actually raised their arms and i could hear a few words.. very realistic. I didn’t get the free kick. I looked at the replay through instant replay and i noticed the goalkeepers chest was the part of the body that took my player down. I tried to do the same thing to see what would happen with if i was taken down with the hands/arms. I tried and tried but i couldn’t do it. After a few games i went over to watch a few other gamers give it a go. Instantly i found one gamer in the same situation. The player was taken down by the keeper (arms and all). Snap! Penalty.. Red Card to Petr Cech. The guy missed the pen, but still. I like how EA have done this.

WHY CAN’T WE HAVE SIMILAR OF PES

  30. I’ve heard he’s having an operation to have his hands sewn back on..What a shtoomer that is!’ Says:

@29 – its probably been exaggerated in those comments, FIFA fans rarely ctiticise their product the way we PES fans do, this is why they were happy being fed s*** until 2008 ;) Now they actually have a decent game they are satisfied – we at PES are never satisfied with the game, hence it has went from strength to strength(excluding the last 2 games – but we will be back on track this year!)

  31. liverpool Says:

when this game is 100 percent complete it going to beat fifa

  32. chris-loves-proevo Says:

    @ 29

sounds to me like the game glitched up and didnt give a clear penalty! it dont matter how the keep brings u down, its still a freekick if he does! so hardly a plus point IMO!

crowds could be better and i would prefer a better atmosphere but to me its always the gameplay that i pay attention to, not doing my own celebrations or anything else! and the shoulder barging off the ball has been in pro for a long time and works just the same! except when would john terry ever gain such pace to track back get at the defender!?

If you want the game to be like fifa, then go play fifa and let us have out PES how we want it!

  33. news Says:

no mate, i love the PES series. Just fed up recently that the game has not been what it used to be.

  34. RFC-CHAMPS-09 Says:

I think this year we will have 2 great games in Fifa and PES

Thats all you can ask for really , on which one is better it really depends on the individual, ifa fans will go with fifa and PES fans wll go with PES.

I just cant wait to play both, as a diehard football fan theres nothing better!

I play fifa for the atmosphere and match day like acton
I Play PES as when your mates are around theres no better game to play , and also the editing that i love to spend hours fideling with.

In a few months my PS3 will probably burn itself out…cant wait!

  35. The Liverpool Way Says:

    I agree on this post.

    - Wikipedia is not an ‘official’ website. Anyone can change it. So don’t read of Wikipedia. Not all information is correct. I know this because back when I used ti go to school, my mate went onto Wikipedia and changed the whole Everton page and wrote swear words and how ‘Gay’ they are.
I went onto Wiki to see if it did really change, and it did! A few minutes later the normal page was back. So you can change it. Anyway…….

    - I like the idea of having a catergory for each type of team. So if I was Wolves, someone else who supports the likes Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley could have a real good game and not be beaten by some noob using Real Madrid or Barcelona. Good Idea.

    - The online play HAS to be improved. Nearly everyone wants improved online play, so I would expect it to be much better and way more fun, like on FIFA. It already sounds as if Konami have improved online, because now you will use PSN tags and stuff like that.

    - The game sounds like it will be really good. Even when it was announced that Master League will have real currency I was well excited! So this game is pre-ordered, and I am waiting very impatiently!

  40. cheech & chong Says:

i think there should be an option online to play with equal
stats (maybe the stats of the better team).

so that you could play as your team ie wolves, westham, stoke etc , against the likes of real madrid , barcelona, inter, without getting hammered.

it would be a nice option to have equal stat matches. it would definatley mix up the teams your likely to face online.

  41. Hillma Says:

Some good suggestions regarding online mode.

I agree with post 10 with that if you are leading by more than a 3 goal margin then that result should stand.

As for the chance to create a lobby with a tier system for teams, again this sounds like a great idea in principle but cannot see it happening unfortunatly.

What I do hope that konami include this year which is not mentioned that often is that they inlcude a much better way to connect to a 2v2 game online as this was so long winded before.

If you could get a lobby with just 2v2 players interested in then this would be great as it’s one of the best ways to enjoy PES.

  42. monty Says:

    Nice article.

My advice re playing as Wolves online is to go with them, take the beatings from the superteam whores but every now and then you will get a win (assuming they don’t dc!) that feels so sweet it will keep you going back for more.
    Win percentages aren’t everything.

  45. We are the Wolves Says:

Hopefully we get a “finished” and tested version this year. I remember last year when we had to download an update to get more licensed teams. Why wasn’t this in the retail version in the first place? I’m really looking fwd to the demo, but does anyone else think from the demo that the pace is still a little too fast and arcadey??

  46. cheo Says:

I do, and I’m still wondering if konami have implemented the mocap already, because the running animations look silly and robotic still. I like the way the game is coming along, but I think the players movements are pretty much the same.

  47. chalky Says:

think if you are the away side, if you are the lessor side like ‘Wolves vesus Barca you should get bonus points for winning etc

  48. acmilangr Says:

for sure it will be better than PES 2009, but will be better than PES 5? FIFA 10 will be an amazing game and i am not sure if PES 10 can catch it,

  49. I’ve heard he’s having an operation to have his hands sewn back on..What a shtoomer that is!’ Says:

I think FIFA 10, or should i say FIFA 09.1 will be the same game only with updated squads/kits/boots etc. PES seems to have had quite a lot of issues adressed, hopefully it will better FIFA this year – not that i mind, because i will always buy PES anyways. PES 09 still gives me satisfaction and enjoyment now the way FIFA just cant, even if it is 2nd worst series, only topped by the steaming cows s*** that was PES 08

  50. Eclipse Dj Says:

@ 53 love the new name. Haha! Did you see my list of quotes previously – made me laugh as I was thinking of them all.

Anyway, thought you might like this link. It’s very stupid but genius – I couldn’t stop laughing! enjoy the musical tones of the PES commentary team:

  51. I’ve heard he’s having an operation to have his hands sewn back on..What a shtoomer that is!’ Says:

@55 – i think we are united in our disbeleif at how s*** the PES commentary is, Lawro is awful, hes awful in real life so why make him worse by giving him a scrip to read that fits in nicely with the ‘Jap Pop’ music in the menus!!!

Between “He was like a cow in a field when he got that chance, he didnt have a clue what to do with it!” and “football, soccer, football, soccer, the greatest game of all” the whole soundtrack should be scrapped and created again from scratch, using REAL songs in the menus that arent irritating, and having the commentators reading off REALISTIC scripts, not some cheesy jap brainchild.

  53. Eclipse Dj Says:

    Do you remember the song, not sure if it was 08 or 09 – it went;

“Give the power to the people now, time for us to kill off the sole cash cow! Power, People, Now. Power, People, Now”

That is a pure genius reference to EA surely, and if I’m wrong, then I don’t ever want to be right!

For PES 2010 they have given the power to the people of the PES community, I hope it regains it’s crown – with or without Lawro’s wooden one liners!

    PES Army! LOL

    @ 21 Gooda becks Gangee

Yea definately fifa is like a robot, licenses are the focus with dull walk the ball into the net football
Pro evo is so much more fun … simple

i think no matter how bad a team you are you can stilll beat the best ( even if its a pain watching messi run rings around you!) it can be done

Personally i think wolves will be great two big strikers Iwelumo and the new guy Maihofer. Big strikers can be great additions and i always have one centre forward in 433 formation

They also have Doyle and Ebanks blake stats wont be amazing but fingers crossed : )

Sorry for all the wolves talk guys

  59. Dave O Says:

Hey Dan – Good read as always.

For online I have suggested in the past that the problem is that players will choose Inter, Brazil, Barca, etc because they are afraid that their opponents will choose a good side if they don’t. The solution I’ve suggested int he past is the same as yours, which is to say that the game shows you what teams are similar or close to the team the first player chose. I also think you should have the option of being able to use a better team if the first player allows it. To help sort this out there would need to be a coin toss at the beginning to see who chooses first. Then, equivalent teams are shown for the second player to choose from. If player 1 chooses wolves, and player 2 has the gumption to say that they want to use, say, Barca, they can select it, but they will have to wait for confirmation from the first player that it is ok.

  60. chris-loves-proevo Says:

    Dave O

was going to say its not fair that people shouldnt be able to play as there fav teams online, but then your coin toss idea ( or something similar ) would go some way to change that.

Id quite like an option that randomly picks both players a team from any league, where by you both click that feature agreeing to having a random team. just for people who like to mix things up like myself

but hey, theres enough of us on this website to organise a couple of friendly games whereby we show our skills with lower teams! anyone good for?!

although we probly should see what the online is like and what it provides b4 assuming i suppose! my bad!

  61. Dave O Says:

I’ll give you a game dude, but I’m in Canada, so it’s tough. I’m thinking about importing this year, but I’m not sure if that would allow me to play people form Europe or not.

  62. gooda becks gangee Says:

NO wolvesfan man you got a point , IN fifa team feel very generic the reason why people play fifA IS BECAUSE THEIR Simple minded , PES takes skill and timin . YOU can’t even take da ball past da keeper in fifa he jumps like a Dragonfly to collect da ball (not realistic). In real life keepers are fooled by feints

  63. Gazelle Says:

THEIR simple minded? Don’t you mean They’re simple minded? Or YOU’RE simple minded?

I prefer Pro Evo 2009 to Fifa 09 too but I can’t judge which of the new games is better because I haven’t played them!

At the moment I don’t play either so I don’t care about them anymore. All I care about is the news for Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and that’s why I’m on this site.

    Calm down.

  71. masi Says:

Great idea about giving the option of offering a match to your opponent when getting hammered. Stick cricket has the same option. In between every over of the second innings you can request to offer the match to your opponent especially when a comeback is hopeless.

A system that could discourage players from using 5 star teams all the time could maybe could be giving very few points to players who win with a five star team against a lesser team regardless of the skill level of their opponent. Plus encourage more people to use mid level clubs by rewarding them with bonus points for winning with such clubs.

Looking forward to the new look of the site.

Yaaa…PES2009 is one the worst Konami Football game since now!!!!

So many annoying matter, i prefer PES2006 better than all..
When play online, its very very suck playing against team which having a player/players with incredible speed…like MESSI,RONALDO,OWEN,WALCOTT,KAKA,RONALDINHO!!!!!!

These gamers only play for winning & NOT enjoy at all…Just play one player running from midfield to the flank, cut inside & score a goal…HUHUHUU!!!! No teamwork at all like real football!!!!

STUPID KONAMI GAMES….when i play online if any gamer play like that……break my heart!!..They actually not skill enough,

PLS konami improve yr game to make it more enjoyable, fun & realistic!!!!
(How can Messi running all the time without tired at all & untouchable)!!!!

    PES2009..THE WORST EVER..

  77. ak Says:

    oh dear

sorry guys but most of these comments are rubbish

    Online play, teams etc
OK, have any of you played ANY other games online apart from football?
The difference in PES is that teams are meant to have realistic stats.
Barca, Man U, etc are really good, other teams not so.
Therefore most players will naturally play with a better side. If you cannot understand that then more fool you.
If YOU decide to play with a weaker side, don’t blame other players, don’t blame Konami, blame yourself!
I play with Liverpool who are pretty good but not the best. LIKE IN REAL LIFE.
However I love playing as my supported team, and have cooked the tactics so I can play to their strengths and maybe win 30% of matches against decent opponents who play as Chelsea, Barca, Inter, United etc.
Even with a bad side, the computer on Top Player can still do some damage…so if you lose EVERYTIME with your “mid-tier” team, stop complaining and start practising. Even poorly rated in-game-players can do something if the computer gamer (you) organises the attack and defence to support each other and play as a team.

On the other hand, I think Konami COULD have a part to play here. In other online games, most “characters/teams/sides” have some strengths and weaknesses, which are contrived to balance out. I play occasionally Mario Kart too…some characters are fast and light, whereas others are strong and slow. On different tracks they perform better or worse, and vary depending on opponents. Same as Smash brothers, and am sure the same applies to Halo, Call of Duty, Golden Eye, etc.
HOWEVER in Pro, the teams reflect the natural variation. Look at the pre-season friendlies. Real Madrid DESTROYED some of the best sides in leagues around the world…because they’re better. Don’t hate just because they are a good side.
BUT the ball is in Konami’s court if they want to improve the experience for the 5% of you out there who like to play with poorer sides (and who complain a lot)
They COULD implement some kind of tiering, or star thing or coin-flip thing.
I do like the tier thing…each side would be rated, and then BEFORE the match, players can then agree on the tier to be played in, if both players are playing in a “tiered” room. In an “open” room, anything goes.
This would be a bit like online gambling (poker) where different tables have different stakes, so you can gauge the strength of the opponent before playing.
I haven’t played football games online, but perhaps there is already an option in PES (Or Fifa?) that allows you to see a player’s statistics before playing him or her. That said, if the option is not there, it should be added.

    Talking about online poker…
    DISCONNECTIONS
I’ve never thought about this one before, but they have tackled this quite well in online poker, because when money is at stake this becomes a very charged issue…but also it affects online leagues and tournaments
Obviously if a console dies, or connection dies one cannot do anything about this, and this should be handled wisely.
I would suggest a statistic that shows the players disconnection rate (again, perhaps over the last 10-20 matches and also all-time) and then one can choose to play such an opponent or not.
On top of this, some poker sites offer “disconnection protection”
Without going into detail, it allows the game to “save the last state” so that play can resume when he reconnects…even if he has to restart the game to do so.
I think this would be top-notch thing to implement.
If not a perfect restart with the ball in mid-air or mid-dribble, then a “drop ball” (like real life FIFA rules) or even a centre-kick with the score at the last score and with any red/yellow cards, injuries, fatigue and substitutions re-applied.

Gawd. Use your brain folks…not that hard…
