Interfering With Play – Tuesday 15th September 2009
Posted by Dan Bolas in Interfering With Play on Tue 15 Sep
Welcome to this week’s Interfering With Play. The buzz of demos and pre-release copies of Pro Evolution Soccer is well and truly upon us now, as the games release draws ever closer. Double D wrote an interesting piece last week regarding the lack of any other footballing titles on the console market, bar the big two and that means the next month or so is the time of year most anticipated by fans of the football gaming genre. The FIFA demo is now out their on our virtual marketplaces, and with the past 11 months of work behind them, both EA Sports and Konami have their podium in place to display their latest offerings. The obvious arguments, which one will be better, why is so and so not at a certain club and how to I get an up to date option file will all no doubt be banded about in the following month or so, but just like Christmas Eve or the build up to a World Cup, a quiet anticipation is arguably the best PR either company could wish for. With that said, lets crack on with this week’s Interfering With Play.
“Same Old, Brand New You”
Regular readers of IWP will know my feelings towards both EA Sports and the FIFA football franchise. The all conquering brand has raised the bar in the way sporting video games are designed, developed, marketed and played, whilst at the same time monopolising a number of sports to the point of no return for rival franchises. Their powers within the sports governing bodies have made for licensed games which in some cases look as good as the televised sport. However, in doing this they sometimes lost sight of the importance of game play, and produced poor yearly updates coupled with actually killing off some franchises all together (Rugby being the prime example). From a personal point of view, I find companies such as Konami and 2K Sports concentrate on making a realistic video gaming experience that is also playable, and for this reason, I have always leant towards these franchises, especially regarding Basketball and Ice Hockey.
I also have purchased each instalment of the FIFA football franchise since the 1993 FIFA International Soccer discs hit my Amiga. This has spanned over 6 different gaming formats, and whilst the middle of this decade saw some of the most bland football gaming experiences I have ever played, each title offered something that you felt maybe could have been built on by EA Sports. FIFA 2009 was the first game to seemingly live up to the potential of the brand, and many people believe it is the finest football game ever made. Among these people are former Pro Evolution Soccer fans and journalists, who for years dubbed PES the king of the football games. In my review, I found the game to be the best FIFA game I have played in many years, but still lacking the gaming realism of Pro Evolution Soccer. Furthermore, I have tried to ‘get into’ FIFA on a number of occasions throughout the past 12 months, only to find myself switching it off after a couple of games to return to PES 2009.
I have always made a point of not spending too much time dwelling on a demo version of a title, but thought it would be important to mention the FIFA 10 demo this week. I know some people may believe that this isn’t relevant to a PES website, but unless you know both options available, it is blind and naïve to pick a favourite, and following my first game on FIFA 10, I was pleasantly surprised. The game felt similar to last years, but the new feel of 360 movements is something I can’t wait to experience in PES. Pro Evo is currently the only game I play which I still use the D Pad for, and there is potential for me to move across to the stick should 360 be implemented well. This aside, I played a couple of games as Chelsea on FIFA and felt that EA Sports had another solid offering in the frame, that PES was going to have to be better than last years to keep pace and that this could genuinely be the ultimate football gaming year. But, I haven’t been tempted back to the demo since. After those two games, there has been nothing to make me want to try as Barcelona or Bayern, and I instead find myself playing demos I have already completed. I played near enough 50 matches on the PES 2009 demo, and would even say nearly 15 on the FIFA 09 demo, yet here, there is no desire to pick up and play.
A couple of my FIFA playing mates have even come on board and said the games feel exactly the same as last years, and would be waiting for a decrease in price until they spent their hard earned cash. Having played a few games on FIFA 09, I may have missed some of the features I had seen on the 10 demo, but FIFA gamers didn’t seem too impressed by the latest offering. I know most of you, PES fans or otherwise will have checked the demo out, so I feel the best way to do it would be a score out of 10. No half marks, nothing silly. Five is the average and go from there, so 6+ for a positive view or 4- for a negative. Just leave your mark as a comment below, something that will act as a good gauge for when the PES demo is released.
“Some Kind Of Superstar”
Great to see so many of you getting involved with PESGaming.com, and in particular, the voting for the IWP Player Of The Season Award. Voting will go on for the new few weeks, and there will be a closing date announced soon. It’s pretty simple, just choose up to three of your favourite players from Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, and send them as either a comment or an e-mail to me. Please remember, I will only accept real players in the voting, this means fake players from Master League will not be counted. To clarify however, if you purchase a real player (for example Jamie O’ Hara) and use them in Master League, making them a superstar in the process, this is perfectly allowed. Get your votes in to have your say on the players that have been stars for you on PES. Just to add my three to the hat, and so I don’t like biased if they come up, I am going for Dembele from Belgium, Sibum from NEC and finally Iniesta from Barcelona. The first two are Master League legends, and the third, well, if you ever player Fix Player as him, you will understand why! If you have PES playing mates, feel free to take their votes too, as this transcends PESGaming regulars!
“I Pledge, Allegiance, To The Underworld”
A little bit of a funny one to bring in this week, but does it bother any of you guys when playing Master League, and your players are called away for International duty! I know Master League doesn’t always believe in realism, and this is probably just another way of making the game more challenging but again, it needs to be consistent. There was a time when I had Quaresma away on International duty, yet Ronaldo was available for selection. Then another time, Ashley Young was unavailable due to England commitments but Rooney played against me! If anyone has any views on this, even how the ‘International duty’ squads are picked, I would really like some insight on the matter. Comments and e-mails in the usual format.
“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”
There have been some nervous rumblings within the ranks regarding option files for PES 2010. A while ago, another PES site took down all support for user created content. This coincided with a partnership the site struck with Konami. There is no official tie between the two, but many claim this is more than a coincidence. Furthermore, this site was, in the past, threatened with legal action by the Premier League for providing option files using the official Premier League logo. Couple this with the fact that Konami are now aware of our presence and working with us, people believe this may spell the end for user generated support on PESGaming.com
The answer to these concerns, as a genuine one, is I personally not entirely sure what this means. In the past, we have supported independent developers with squad lists and shirt designs, and given these small time editors a place to get their work displayed and adored on a larger scale. I hope this will continue to 2010 and beyond, but genuinely don’t know what will happen in the coming months. If it is legal for option files to be displayed and downloaded on the internet, I guarantee PESGaming.com will have a vast selection of files available from the home page to cater for all leagues and tastes. Sorry to be slightly inconclusive, but until I know one way or another, I refuse to commit to making any further statement than that.
“It’s Coming Home”
Finally this week, congratulations to England for qualifying to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It is a testament to how far the squad has come in two years under Capello to put in a professional and quality performance against Croatia, and shows a level of maturity within the other group games that befits one of the world’s top ten footballing nations. Over the next few months, I do aim to gear this site slightly towards more information about the real footballing world, and I am sure the topic of England’s world cup chances will be discussed, so I will leave it at that, however, it would be tremendous to see England qualify for the finals with 100% record, and cement a feel good factor around the country.
That’s your lot this week. I am slowly but surely sorting out the new site. It is taking an age, but will hopefully be ready to coincide with the launch of PES 2010. (Fingers crossed). interferingwithplay@hotmail.co.uk is the place to direct all e-mail to. There is a fair bit to get in touch about this week, plus the IWP application phase is still open. Please only apply once, as more than one application invalidates your original one!
Thanks for Reading

thank u very much
I never got into FIFA ‘09 so nobody would be able to gauge much about anything if I did score the ‘10 demo. On it’s own merits I think it is fantastic, and I am considering buying it for the first time since FIFA 2003. I really hope PES steps up to the plate this year.
Thanks for the Reading festival, or thanks for the town of Reading in Berkshire?
i’ve played the fifa2010 demo for a few matches, some days ago.
i don’t like to sound like a konami fanboy, yet i think the PC demo is a horrible failure. the graphics seem far too bright. my controller (a thrustmaster gamepad, never caused trouble in any game except for fifa) was bugged with the same bug as in fifa2009: when receiving the ball, my player would always move upwards. i found me a patch for 09 back then (needed to text-edit some file) but i failed to do so for this installment. they should’ve fixed that by now!
as for the gameplay, i think it’s ok. it’s hard to objectively comment on that though, since i’m very much used to pes(6) and, because of that, i got annoyed by some differences when playing fifa2010. wouldn’t be fair to blame fifa for that.
i found the defenders to be quite skilled when compared to pes6, it’s hard to just pass a defender with some nice footwork (although i might just not have figured out the controls to their fullest yet). on the other hand, passes from strange angles seemed somewhat easier.
overall, i was mainly disappointed by the baaaad pc port. it’s fifa09 all over again: the pc just isn’t EA’s main platform anymore. (playing fifa09 on xbox360 with some friends, i remember, was quite good though!)
hence, i wouldn’t recommend fifa10 for anyone on pc.
my marks: 4 out of 10 for the pc demo.
as for the international duties; i kinda like them, since it adds some more realism to the game. besides, some younger player might play instead, giving him a change to shine ;) (i always seem to be playing better when controlling new or young players; as if i were them, and wanted to prove myself)
never noticed the inconsistencies though; but i wouldn’t mind that too much. they should – obviously – fix it, but there’s higher priorities on my list..
keep up the good work!
fifa 10 demo is awesome
ive played the fifa 10 demo and to be honest its not bad at all. never been a big fan of fifa but i think the gameplay has really improved and it looks great. now lets see what konami can come up with? this year i can finally see myself actally buying a fifa game instead of pes? im tired of konami’s poor excuses and especially the online play.
Does anyone else have a problem on the fifa 10 demo of the constant fouls. Every time i go near a player it seems to be a foul!!!!
The gameplay is smooth but its too easy, i havn’t played a fifa game in years but on the top difficulty as bayern i beat chelsea 3-0 with a forty yarder, a chip and a goal from the edge of the box. They were stunning looking goals but offered me no satisfaction. even after turning off all assists it still wasnt challenging. Needless to say i got bored very quickly and wont be buying it.
i’ll give it 5 out of 10 and thats being generous.
isit me or alot of people come here 2 talk bad about pes and yh i dnt like fifa 10 fo me its just like 09 the only good thing u could argue about with a fifa fan is the 360 system the number on the back of the shirts are massive :| lol
dnt come on the site if its to talk s**t about the game its annoying man comment on your game nt on others
Is it just me or does all the players on the Fifa demo seem to have the same abilities? I know its only a demo and not the final release but there was very little difference with the players in terms of their quality. Diego for Juve was the only stand out player. Messi, Henry, Ribery etc just felt the same as all the others besides them having more pace. Plus the Master League International breaks are silly, and don’t make sense, it is good for rotating the squad but is totally random!
fifa 10 console 7/10
fifa 10 pc 3/10
Fifa 10 is not for PC gamers.
The game looks very easy in terms of scoring, passing, running past defender and the goal keeper is in a world of its own never bothering to stop the shot. The shots that didnt went in for the goal were the ones saved by posts :P
The game play is arcade style. You can score from a particular set pattern of movements every time. :(
This a’int what i am gonna pay for.
4/10 from me
The internatiuonal duties really mess up your squad when u have a handfull of match winners in the team.
Will make it a point to check what Dan said.
Adious to FIFA, EA not interested in PC gamers.
As a PES fan since PES4 it has always been hard to play FIFA as the two games play totally different. Last year I tried playing FIFA09 how I would in PES and it just didn’t work, which is why I bought PES09. This year I have played very little football games and had a much easier time getting into the FIFA10 demo, to the point it was heaps of fun. Okay so onto the impressions:
Graphics are pretty good, although from pics I think PES will have the obvious edge. Player faces still aren’t right, something PES has gotten right for a long time now. Something that also bothered me was the extreme close-up cut scenes in FIFA10 that looked like the camera was sitting on the pitch. It takes away the “TV” style presentation and makes the game feel like a videogame, and not a TV broadcast… may not bother other people, but I think PES did the broadcast presentation great, especially in their seamless camera-cuts after goals or fouls etc.
Gameplay is pretty tight, you can finally beat a man without using the trick stick which was a massive issue for me in FIFA09 demo (never bought the full game, bought PES2009). Still some small issues though, players lack the individualism that is so aparent in PES. Some players feel different though, I always feel I can beat a man with Ribery or Schweinsteiger much easier than the rest.
Overall 7/10 (for comparison PES5 would be a 9/10)
Very promising products from EA, can’t wait to see what Konami have up their sleave!!
I give the FIFA demo on PS3 : 7/10
I still couldn’t find the demo in US region
Is it only available in europe PSN store or what?
FIFA demo: 7 out of 10
it plays far more fluid than FIFA games before, in the beginning you think: WOW, far more responsive, far more ways (chip, screamer) to score, but after about 10 games you realize that those goals are more the norm, so it takes all your excitement away.
The graphics from up close are not my cup of tea, too much comic book like, but from afar it looks stunning.
It still feels less tactical to me, in FIFA I basically always play the same, no matter which team or even which player I control.
That tinkering with tactics in PES & the individuality of players are just SSOOOO important for my preference to PES.
I loves it when my mate who in FIFA ALWAYS plays Brazil with Adriano & Fred in midfield (as he wants all strikers to play) and manages a good game, only to be kicked back home in PES if he tries the same! In FIFA, Adriano in midfield? no problem, in PES, it will kill you as he doesnt have those qualities!
And like Dan said, I don’t know what it is exactly, but no matter how polished and good the game is, I NEVER have that ‘just 1 more game’ feeling with FIFA that I have with PES. PES (the last 2 ittirations less) always kept you coming back for more, FIFA gets dull after a while.
btw: post above was based on 360-version
I agree with jag 8, on pes you cant sprint past teams with players like ballack but on fifa every player seems to be the same.
Fifa used to be a pretty girl with **** for brains,
Now its an average girl i wouldnt look twice at.
5/10
Hulkmaphone and MagicRoma, I agree with you both; points very well made.
I have this demo on PS3 and it is far better than the full game on PC last year which I took back because it was rank rotten.
It’s very smooth, has decent atmostphere and of course great commentary (although a bit ‘choppy’ at times). I must say I enjoyed playing it. I still find it extremely gimmicky though and I know this is gonna pish me off before too long. The close camera angles are odd at times; it’s as if the cameraman is in the 6 yard box, on the floor and pointing his camera up at the goalie! I really hate the cut-scene for substitutions – extremely jarring the way the camera points into the top of the stand.
I too felt that all the players seemed to have very similar abilities. Messi in FIFA 10 – doesn’t stand out; Messi in PES 10 he’s tricksy and quicker than the average player.
Overall: 7/10. Whenever I’ve ventured into FIFA territory I quickly get bored (I’ve had this for less than 24 hours) but I can see the casual footie gamers lapping it up.
The faces are just weird, like they are carved out of wax
6/10
It’s SO MUCH better than FIFA 2009, but still.
Last year I bought PES 2009, played it for like 6 months and had enough of it. This, however, was the first time I didn’t play the game for the full year. I decided to buy FIFA 2009 for E 20,- and found the game quite fun. However I had enough of it after 2 months or so.
FIFA 2010 feels exactly like 2009, just a tad faster and a bit more fluid. I don’t like the option of choosing auto/semi/manual passing shooting etc. because auto is lame, semi is weird (partly programmed controls?) and manual take the individuality out of the game.
Scoring goals isn’t satisfying and you don’t even use 90% of the possible tricks for more than a day.
The worst thing is that you don’t really have to bother with the tactical stuff because it won’t influence your play (or at least hardly) anyway, this goes for 2009 as well as the 2010 demo.
Bit lame, they could’ve done a lot more with it.
PES 2010 demo release date ? anyone
i rate fifa10 4/10
i just could not get into it. the graphics where to bright and shine and it kinda hurt my eyes. all the players felt the same like they have the same ability very poor. it was way to easy to score im talking about in my first game i was scoring 40 yarders with yaya toure very unrealistic i like the 360 movement cant wait to try it out on pes2010 one thing i like about fifa is the commentary it feels fluid and well presented unlike pes commentary.
i have a feeling that this year pes2010 is going to be the one.
post 19 baska.
expect the demo to be released end of the month or begining of octomber.
lol FIFA 09 scored last year in most sites/reviews 9-10/10 and you now rating FIFA 10 6-7/10?
SO Fanboyism….
i think pes will be a big bang to evy one…just hop that they can sort the keepers out and online out..im going to by the 2football games this year..as i like the master leag on pro evo :)
#22 sim-er: nice, someone without his own opinion on the site…
If all sites say you should b*gger off and live on a desolate island, you’d follow suit instantly as well?
Our reviews of FIFA demo are our PERSONAL opinions, if we just have to follow reviews there wouldn’t be any sense in posting in FIFA/PES forums, would there?
I have an idea about the international selection of players in the league. We should be given a choice whether to allow the players to go or not. We can have a number of excuses that we can choose from in order to prevent them from going like:
-’Injured’ unable to play (eg Jose saying Essien was injured thus preventing him from playing for Ghana 4 yrs ago)
-Crucial match coming up (eg as happens in the Old Firm)
-Retirement from international football to concentrate on club football (eg Ryan Giggs quiting wales)
etc etc
And then either the club gets fined or the player gets suspended from international football. This should in turn change the mood of the player so that for the next few games his condition will be poor; since he may be unhappy that his manager did not allow him to go play for his country. or something along those lines because it does happen in real life.
With regard to how the selection actually takes place, i think its to do with the individual players rating in the games leading up to the international break me thinks. Don’t know how many games that is, but i’ve noticed that my players get selected when they’ve been having a good season.
Fifa 10
8/10 for me
Dont forget some changes will be made come release.
Played a couple of games of FIFA demo and i must say that my first noticable thing was that presentation of the game is the same as last year…second thing was gameplay and it is much improved over the last year…but one big thing didnt fall into place…i must allways look to the edge of the screen to see which of my players have the ball…(new feeling for me because i allways play PES)…and i dont like it…360 dribling is great but not revolutionary…will see how PES will be in that department…all and all i havent played moore games of FIFA demo…there is yust something missing in this game!
6/10
fifa10s got that instant hook and acessibility that will appeal to newbies and people that just want the thrills of football but arent to tactical focused or care about the finer details ie team balance, tactics, player individuality.
Graphically the players are to skinny with slightly oversized heads and funny jaws with player faces looking very dark and gothic more tim burton then MOTD.
If anything fif10 feels a bit pes2009 but poorly executed and lacks the soul or heart that makes pes shine.
People will continue to gush over it until two months down the line when they realise it hasnt got that anything can happen or the only limit is your imagination gameplay that pes has.
For anyone who has actually been playing pes2009 all year playing the fifa10 demo and then going back to pes2009 feels like coming home and on this note i give fifa10 6/10.
I played a couple of games of the fifa demo and i must say it is good the fluidity is good and i like the commentry is almost precise but as everyone says each player seems to play the same way almost no difference and to tell u the truth i got both at it pretty fast and started to play pes 2009 again.the defending though seemed pretty good as u can’t really beat defenders with a simple cut they will read it.
i give fifa 10 6/10. anticipated pes 2010 badly.
bored
Haven’t played the Fifa 10 demo yet but if it’s anything like Fifa 09 then it’ll be brilliant for the first couple of months and then it’ll get very repetitive!!
The international duty does seem a strange one. It wouldn’t work if Rooney got called up though as this would be even more unrealistic as Prem games are postponed when England play so he wouldn’t be missing from a league game.
Can’t wait to hear what people make of the PES 2010 demo!
fifa demo = -3, reason being that the game is not that different from the 09 version except for the 360 and video graphics.
Pro Evo demo out soon, but does anyone know when???
i would give fifa10 a rating of 4/10.
i was not very impresed with it at all. it feels exactly the same as fifa09 i think that even the biggest fifa fans have to admit that. the gameplay is fluid but not very fun to play in every player feels the same a defender can easily catch up to messi fake or what scoring goals is easy just shoot it will eithier hit the post or go in the ball floats in the air for to long try taking a corner and you will know what i mean the graphics are poor too shiny too bright kind of blurry the replays are to close. the pitch is to big and the players are so small i dond understand it as other people have said this ame will be good for the first 2 months then its back to pes.
CANT WAIT FOR PES2010 THIS IS THE YEAR FOR PES I CAN FEEL IT ANYONE ELSE HAS THE SAME FEELING.
i bet konami are laughing at eas fifa10.
YES REDPESFAN I CAN FEEL TO THIS IS DEFENTLY THE YEAR FOR PES
Great column again
lads any idea when the pro evo demo is out must be soon? im itching for the new one any idea of release day some have told me 09/10 or maybe 17/10
havent bothered with fifa … and wont either : )
Guys today is 15th of september and still nothing about the pes demo, not even an annoucment about the date.I hope everything is ok because fifa annoucment for their demo was 14 days earlier. If anyone knows anything please tell us.About the fifa demo i think its good but if fifa is good with 360 movement imagine pes is gonna be super excellent.I cant wait anymore….
FIFA10 Demo
Firstly I’d like to moan that its 2 hours of my life I will never ever get back. I gave it a good chance. I felt I needed to play more than a couple of games as I hadn’t played FIFA since the 2 weeks after 09 was released. It does deserve a proper look. EA has stuffed everything into FIFA, all the licences, options galore, 360movement, decent animations, tweaked physics, better AI etc etc. Loads of people love it. It gets good reviews. If you stood back and watched someone play it, you would think it’s a good game.
But, and its a big one, EA have managed to put all these good elements together, and still managed to produce a dull and lifeless game. It has no weight, no excitement, poor response, average graphics, no feel. I’ve given countless football games my devotion and time over the years. I even gave FIFA09 2 weeks. Although without be a pro mode it wouldn’t have lasted a couple of days. But I have already given FIFA10 too much. It really is a boring game. Even after scoring a beautiful goal after a bit of a keep ball session I didn’t even raise a smile. Any decent footy game would have had me jumping around the room, saving the replay, and showing my mates.
The goalies are scared of crosses. Lobs are too often and too good. Changing player, if it actually pays any attention to your button press, is never who you want. After changing your player he loses position. Passing is hit and miss, when its quite obvious who you want to pass to. Long distance shooting is too easy. Defending crosses is frustrating. The gameplay has no weight to it. Its really really dull. Maybe I should have rolled myself a bifta, apparently that helps.
Do not believe the hype. Do not believe anyone who says this is good. It’s not an issue of different opinions, its a matter of people having no idea whatsoever of what makes a decent footy game.
6/10 for effort, must try harder.
fifa10 is like a holiday fling it feels fresh and great for a short period of time but you know its not going to last as the foundations are weak and its pure lust.
Much like a pop record or fast food its instantly palettable but has no layers or variety and leaves a bitter after taste.
Pes2010 on the other hand is like that gem of a record thats shows its quality after the tenth play or a home cooked meal with quality ingredients that linger on the taste buds.
Good effort ea but you still have a lot to learn…….
‘Pes2010 on the other hand is like that gem of a record thats shows its quality after the tenth play or a home cooked meal with quality ingredients that linger on the taste buds.’
You aint even played PES2010 ya trumpet so how would you know how it plays?
Again just a PES fanboy who is happy with the same BS being fed to him year after year
Its obvious fifa is not going to get good ratings here, just like PES gets 1/10 and so on at Soccer Blog.
I will wait till the people who know what they are talking about rate the games. IGN ect. (they were correct last year with fifa).
I’ve only played the FIFA10 demo a couple of times (10mins worth since it got released) but I’ll buy it regardless, just to tick me over until PES2010 comes out, then on the shelf it goes like FIFA09. Just got Champ Man to play til FIFA comes out. It’s like a vicious cycle that will happen every year. Although Champ Man 2010 will ultimately get dropped for FM2010 upon it’s released. Only cost 1p anyway.
Wheres the edit pics????
was genuinly impressed with the fifa 10 demo
wld give it an 8/10 i’d say
Ive played the FIFA 10 Demo on PS3 and must say it was a nice surprise… the passing is smoother than 09 and the shooting is less ‘floaty’. I am a massive PES fan but i also own FIFA 09, and while i think FIFA is the more complete and rounded game, PES does make you want to go back and have ‘just one more game’. I will be buying both games again this year, and if PES is better than FIFA, as it was claimed in a video games magazine, then it will be one hell of a game…
i have the 95% build of pes2010 in frony=t of me and it leaves fifa10 at the lights!!!!!!!!
The Fifa 10 demo is very bad! It’s just like fifa 09 only with new colours on the menu and it’s too easy. I have played 7 games on world class and the console haven’t scored once! Way to easy.
I find Fifa 10 lacking in emotional content. It doesn’t engage you. It’s like you feel distanced from the game and therfore not involved and ulimately don’t care if you win or lose!!! PES 2009 you care about partially because it can annoy the hell out of you sometimes – especially online…
FIFA 10 Demo is an improvement from FIFA 09. They have fixed many things that made the game unplayable for me in FIFA09.
360 dribbling is pretty good. I like that semi and manual options, passing is fluid an diverse. Jostling has its pros and cons. Commentary is good.
Shooting from range and free-kicks are far too easy. Corners swerve too much. Chipping the keeper is too easy. Fouls too often.
Clearances from the computer AI are coded as accurate passes. (does my head in that EA don’t understand the nature of CLEARANCES) Who else notices this?
Tackling is too easy, turns it into an arcade game.
Skilled dribbling looks terrible and awkward. (I look better dribbling on the ball in my own back yard.)
Over-all If PES vanished from thin air I could possibly play FIFA for a year. They are close to a good game.
There is so much that EA needs to sort out but I don’t think they know how to make the game organic or realistic.
I give the demo 7/10
Fix dribbling,
TACKLING
Clearances,
Long-shots,
Free kicks
Corners
Player attributes
Player individuality
Realistic player physics
Realistic ball physics (not bobbling back 2 the defender every time)
Introduce edit mode
Introduce an option for removal for trick stick.
Increase player responsiveness
etc
Improve all that and the game would be a great game, probably.
If EA could steal a programmer that knows how to make you feel more involved, feel less distant, to give the game more weight and ultimately, to make it fun to play, with a ‘just one more game’ feel. They would have a great game. But they havent, so they dont.
“(they were correct last year with fifa).”
It’s all to do with opinion.
There is no right way to review a game, your own opinion is the one that matters.
I found FIFA09 to be a deeply frustrating game full of bugs.
It shocked me when people said the game was “great” “10 out of ten”
Like I said it’s all about opinion and standards.
I bought FIFA09, I loved it at first. Then after a few weeks I started to notice holes in the game, glitches and poor errors in contructing the game.
Online was made unplayable for me. It would crash when I would make a sub, so many times that happened to me.
Everyvody would be Barca or Man Utd as they were the best 5 star teams.
Through balls killed the game on Auto, killed the game. You didn’t have to even aim. Centre backs could do them from 45 yard out, the animation would let the striker in.
Online would pit Auto users with Semi Auto. That would mean an unbalanced, unfair game. Penalties straight after a draw on-line.
Goal keepers COULDN’T get sent off!! You couldnt round them unless you were 4 yards away from them.
Manager Mode crashed EVERY season. I had three seasons, fully backed up, three times EACH time. They all eventually crashed/ (wasted so many hours)
Exhibition mode got corrupted and couldn’t play 2v2 so I had to use another account.
There were lots more issues that I didn’t mention!
EA have apparently fixed ALL of these errors/flaws for FIFA10. (see their list of improvements on their site)
Many people may not have noticed them. I did!! If they have in fact fixed these issues they have done a great job.
FIFA09 was broken. To say FIFA was a great game then *&%&£% ,..,.. 6%%*$*$ … &%&* ^$

‘i have the 95% build of pes2010 in frony=t of me and it leaves fifa10 at the lights!!!!!!!!’
Course you do champ…….
FIFA 10 demo 8/10
Looks brilliant and every match I notice a different animation from the players which is great, still feel as though I don’t have complete freedom that the 360 movement should give me but really enjoy playing it, I think this year now Konami seem to have got their fingers out could see them take a big step away from EA if they are able to pull of what looks like the game we have all been dreaming of. Fingers firmly crossed.
when the new pes comes out will someone please be able to help me get an option file on my ps3(rubbish with computers)? My 3 fav players for pes 09 would be- lennon, chech and torres. Just got to say what a fantastic site this is, i have enjoyed reading all your coments. Elbeano
I’m a die hard PES fan and I rate the FIFA demo 8/10 for the PS3 version.
Gameplay seems vastly improved to me. The obvious pointers of the great commentary and huge library of licences remain.
My only gripe with the game is the awful replays and goal celebrations. I can only hope the create-a-player system is better than last years effort too, that was a real disappointment.
LOL I read some comments here and I have to say that I’m fan from PES since a long time ago but now I played FIFA 10 demo and I was amazed by the quality of the game… The game is stunning nothing compared to PES 09…
I read in some comments that in FIFA you can put strikers as midfielders, that the game is too arcade and I can only say play PES09 and see how wrong you are
PES Does not even have the proper names for teams.
How can that be realistic?
@ 39 konami.
why talk **** you aint even played pes 2010 so how can you comment on what its like.

gameplay, gameplay, gameplay
these are the 3 most important things in a GAME.
If you cant change the names yourself or download an option file, there really is no hope for you.
DonnieJ – Mate you need to have a look at your broadband connection. How you can say that fifa 09’s online was unplayable really questions your connection.
Fifa Is Garbage end of story only Commercial hoes will Spend £40 on the game it lacks a football ora , Fifa is like a championship game that y u can score from so far like in da Cola cola league PES is for real footy gamers
AND YES I DO GET A SCENCE OF MAGIC IN PES ONLY KONAMI CAN OFFER
Fifa 10 demo: 8.6/10
In terms of how major of a change it is, however, 7/10.
Don’t get me wrong, it does have some major improvements, but having bought 09, it is difficult for me to see myself getting my money’s worth for Fifa 10. After playing it for 2 months (if that long) I think I would get really bored, because it is so similar ot 09, which I did get into and play a couple seasons of last year. It’s just way too similar IMO. Almost seems like what one would expect of a world cup edition (i.e. Fifa 09.5).
Not a bad game, but I’m shocked at how little of an improvement it is after having read such amazing reviews on some sites, especially WENB. In fact, this actually has me worried for PES 2010, because if Fifa 10 is so lackluster, and those Fifa fans who have played both games aren’t immediately saying they are switching over to PES this year, then maybe PES 2010 isn’t going to be as good as I am hoping it will…?!?!?! However, I’m one of those people who actually really appreciated PES 09, so I’m sure I’ll be happy with PES 2010. I guess my concern then is that there may end up being a lot of people let down by both games this year.
FIFA 10 rocks, and it just an old build demo with disabled the maximum difficulty (legendary)
look here the animations
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNed4o27q2I
amazing
pro-2009 – Totally wrong with your comment mate, you say its an old build demo. You need to get facts my friend before coming onto this site and saying that its an old build demo. The game does not rock, in fact its a copy of fifa 09.
The Fifa 10 demo was good and the 360 movement is one that i was very happy and excited about and i believe it has worked well however it will take some time to get use to. Being a pro fan myself i converted to buying fifa 09 (as in 2008 both Fifa and Pro were so bad so didnt bother) as Pes 09 let me down…
However I have faith this year i shall be picking Pes instead of Fifa this yea…
Fifa 10 demo…. 7/10
PES 2010 Demo out 24th September 2009. Xbox version in the morning, pc version in the afternoon and PS3 at 5pm….
Is the Auto tackling still in for PES 2010? I nearly had a heart attck when my computer player gave away 3 penalties in one game when I didnn’t even press or think about pressing the tackle button??
Sorry, I got that wrong. It’s
PES 2010 Demo out 29th September 2009. Xbox version in the morning, pc version in the afternoon and PS3 version on 10th October at 5pm….
i found in this website http://pes2008editing.blogspot.com it’s said 23 september 2009..
Having played the PS3 FIFA 10 demo for a couple of days, I’m personally giving it 7/10.
It is an improvement over FIFA 09… 360 movement works reasonably well, passing still feels solid, defending still works better than it does in PES 2009, commentary/sounds still sound good in comparison to PES aswell and the apperance is good. Sure, there are no major improvements beyond the 360 stuff, but FIFA 09 needed refining instead of a full-blown makeover… much like the PES series did before Konami messed up with PES 2008 and 2009.
However…
Shooting from distance looks good the first few times, but is far too easy. Try to get a tap-in though, and the ball rolls pathetically along the ground and into the keeper’s arms. You shouldn’t have to CONSTANTLY go for power over placemnet, but here you do.
Dribbling and crossing still feels a little underpowered… better than the previous one, admittedly, but still needs work.
A rather annoying thing I’ve noticed in the demo is a tendency for players receiving a pass letting it roll beyond them instead of trapping it. Maybe I’m not playing the game right and there’s a button press I’m not aware of, but I’d rather have a button press to ignore it (like in PES) instead of a button press to NOT ignore it.
Finally, like many here have said already, the players feel identical and the game feels ultimately souless.
When the game comes out, I’ll be renting before I buy, just to see if the full game really is as good as some people are saying it is.
On the other subjects…
International duty in the Master League doesn’t bother me too much. It’s nice to know if your squad has the required depth to challenge for honours, and it’s good to bring on players you might not always use. Sure, it could be more realistic and/or consistent, but to me, it’s the minorest of minor niggles, and I won’t complain if it stays the way it is in PES 2010.
As for option files… as long as I can download an option file which unlocks all the extra teams, players, etc. and the game won’t punish me for doing so, I’ll be happy. Some of you may call it cheating, I call it avoiding a grindfest. Seriously, Konami… either give me an interesting and rewarding way to unlock the extra content or let me play the game on MY terms!
its a bit worrying about 2010 option files. i think this year we may better just listing what an OF contains rather than showing it off with pictures, keep it a low profile affair.
“as long as I can download an option file which unlocks all the extra teams,”
Is that possible.
I normally have to play PES for 8 months before I unlock 50% of the content.
Since were on the topic of option file. For the PS3, this file has neevr been done. Anyone know of an option file that allows you to change adboards (from the konami ones to others ones such as champioonsleague adboards or adbaords from other leagues during your ML campaign or exhibition)? Any response would be much appreciated. Oh if anyone knows of websites where to get adbaord OF for pes 2010, let me know. Thanks lads.
Cheers,
Robbie
Just to add…
The option file fiasco may not affect me, but I can understand people’s concern, especially considering that those who do specialist option files minaly do it for themselves for free and pass them on to those who are interested. It may just be ignorance on my part, but as long as it’s not damaging or degrading Konami in any way, I don’t see why they feel they shouldn’t allow it.
I agree with post 71 that it might be better to keep any OFs relatively low-key in future, but I hope we won’t need to.
@72…
Doing a search online should find you 100% complete option files, although it might be a bit more awkward if you use the Xbox 360 version (I don’t have an Xbox 360, so I can’t be too sure).
There’s also this site if you haven’t scanned the forums already.
Why it’s only just occured to me to tell you that is a mystery.
I won’t download option files as I can’t use them online.
For PES10 you will be able to import your edited club teams onto unranked games.
No way.
Yes Waaaaay.

EA dont make me laugh
anyone know any other sites that allow you to download option files?
looks like this site is gonna take the files off its forums!
I hope they get rid of that wank messenging thing in Pes 08 and 09.
“Let’s make a strategy” lol
“i’ll get that back”
That was a great idea but poorly executed.
I would like to make custom comments, like “your mothers got a “”"”" ” or “Nice goal, but you take it up the Arsenal!”
Keep comments but make them custom.
I’ve just played the FIFA demo again for the 151st time.
I have been fighting against the computers invisible intelligence and passing against their grain.
They want me to play a certain way, I try and play how I want. It’s not working. I start to build up attacks and there are sweet spots waiting for me to exploit them for an easy goal. I SAY NOOOO……………
I don’t want to do that, so I try and hold the ball up, switch play, switch direction and I get tackled by a computer generated go gadget foot.
I get NEO VISION. I see an invisible barrier where I can’t go anywhere near. “It say’s no dribbling inside hear.”
but I want to.
——————————————————–
Has anybody played football here??????……………………………………………….
ah good, you’ll know what I mean then.
When you want to dribble around/past an opponent you need to time it right or you’ll get tackled. You have to get relatively close to the defender otherwise you will loose the advantage of space and surprise.
(if you are two yards away from a defender and try to get past them they will close the door on you, side step to shut you out)
So. To get past a defender you need get close enough to maneuver past them, you need to get them off-balance/flat footed.
In FIFA getting close to a defender to attempt a fleet footed dribble is footballing suicide.
You need a to fondle their love stick and L2 button or just pass the ball or alternatively turn off the console.
I can get past a defender without the love stick but I have to be a safe distance away from the defender, this is not realistic.
Why oh why is dribbling so wrong on FIFA, does David Rutter not watch football? Why is tackling easier than sneezing?
I think it is because the people making the game don’t understand football. It’s that or they don’t care about it.
I’ve played the demo for hours and it feels so restrictive.
ANTI FOOTBALL.
john @78
how do you kno this, cause i always bang on about edit online caus eof my super team witch i cant use. please reply
I saw a video link on A swedish website, it showed a team with custom kits (Japanese logos) playing then the team bar changed and fazed into on-line play.
That means you can get your Arsenal and your Man City kits etc and play on-line.
I’m guessing that this is for unranked. Im also guessing the player ratings will transfer over to.
I hated playing as North London.
but will you be able to buld a super team and play your friends super team with kits, boots, hair and accessaries and play online
You all need to read this review of both games by psm3 magazine.

I can’t see it the text is too small. Can you post me the magazine/??
all you have to do is click on the article and click again to zoom in.

there seems to be a lot of people complaining that fifa’s too easy. me and all my friends find pes pretty easy, i did pretty much everything worthwhile (ML, BAL, achieved a decent online ranking etc) after a few months, bought fifa in february(ish) and still struggle when playing leagues etc. for example, Top Player on pes, Man U vs. Barca i would win about 5-0 with either team. fifa, Man U vs. Barca i would probably be lucky to get 3-1 at a push…0-0 often enough though!
Cheers Playerz movement, just read the whole article it was very interesting.
I’ve been playing the FIFA demo a lot and now after 4 days I now want to play the PES demo.
It said that skilled dribbling was L1 on FIFA, i’ve been holding R2 and L2.
I’ll give it another go in a bit.
thanks for that PLAYERZ MOVEMENT,
i also just finished reading the whole article and it was very intresting, so far very few people have made great argument on this blog. even though there was a couple of thing i questioned or didnt agree with, it seemed good to read, i just hope pes was as good as they made it sound. i definatly cant wait to play both even though i always put down fifa after a month and play pro for the rest of the year,i ocasionaly play fifa when i wanna try it again or just try another game of football through out the year.
fifa10 pc= 2/10 (ridiculous)
fifa10 ps3= 7/10 (fifa09 = fifa10… but, less simulation, more easy…more arcade)
waiting pes2010!
Just played the PES09 demo after 5 days of playing the FIFA demo.
It felt really weird playing without 360 movement, there were moments when I wanted to slightly turn and the player couldn’t. The PES 2009 demo had a old feel to it and I much prefer the semi Auto passing and shooting to PESs.
FIFAs passing you can pin point your passes more, there are more options. In PES they are Auto passes and they seem like for every pass there are only a few options, same as shooting.
You can’t aim for the top corner, it’s more to do with positioning and circumstances.
I was playing the FIFA demo and shouted at the screen every few seconds as I kept on getting tackled in situations where I felt I should not have, when I put PES 2009 I felt the tackling was right. When I got tackled I knew it was because my timing was fractionally off or it was just a good tackle.
Here’s my fifa 10 demo goal.
The skill stick does really cool thing if you practise it, arcadey or not it’s fun!!

PES 2010 Demo out tomorrow!!!!
Being honest, the Fifa 10 demo is a good game. It’s not amazing but it’s better than Fifa 09, i mean why wouldn’t it be?! The animations are much smoother now, crossing feels good and looks good and the 360 movement gives the game better scope. It just lacks that thrill of scoring in PES that is so good to feel. I think the fact you have to celebrate your own goal is just stupid, i would rather sit back and revel at the way i scored than having to press combinations of buttons. Also, the replays do the goal no justice, sometimes Fifa doesn’t even show the goal in a replay! PES gives you many angles and the opportunity to save it and share it, while having that small portion of the replay being your player celebrating in slow-motion, makes it worth-while scoring :)
I would give Fifa 10 a 7/10.
For the international duties, my opinion is that if there were such international matches going on with teams like England or Portugal, i wouldn’t actually expect there to be any club games on as in real life, a weekend without MoTD :( I would expect some for friendlies maybe and the African Cup of Nations but it has to be consistent that’s for sure.
Finally, being an XBOX360 owner i can’t actually get option files etc because i don’t have anything to transfer them to my hard drive, one day i would like to get one because they look awesome! I just hope that the in-game editor can do more from the PES of old where you could write things on the shirt and have a shirt manufacturer in the corner, and have good templates to use so the kits can actually look half-decent!
Hooray for England :)
after reading the artical from PSM3, its seems that Konami have guranteed no LAG. Is the true????
I think liverpool are spanish glory hunters.
Fifa Is King.

FACT
this site is great don’t get me wrong, however its a shame that the guys at wenb and pesfan, post news before this site. Hopefully someone can be more dedicated because as far as i know they guys at those fan sites do this in there spare time too.
Just my opinion like
Fifa 10 demo not bad 7/10 from me
They say the demo may be on older code
I hope they don’t screw it up with gamescon code
A min 70% build is expected. (thats what fifa offered, it will be better to judge the 2 games then)
I can’t wait to play the PES 10 demo, and if it is available tomorrow – as seems to be pretty much confirmed, Konami have certainly raised their by getting the demo out there two weeks earlier than last year.
This gives the undecided a chance to try both for a couple of weeks before FIFA’s retail release on 2nd October.
I just hope Konami put out a decent code with most animations etc added it, because an older code will not show us the game at it’s full potential.
In regards to the FIFA demo, I would say it definitely flows and responds much better than any other FIFA title I’ve ever played. I would rate it around a 7/10 to and 8/10 – it it certainly above average and plays a fluid game, but just lacked that enjoyment and depth I get when I play PES.
I think the build will be 70/75% for tomorrows demo as that is what the Fifa Demo build was when released.
I hope everyone does not expect too much fom this demo (like people did with fifa) they say 2011 is when the series will truely make a jump!

Allegedly the demo will let you have a kick about with Barcelona, Liverpool and the Spanish, German, French or Italian national teams.
Of course this is far from official at the moment, but we’ve contacted Konami for comment.
pleaseeeeee let it be tommorow! maybe konami have pushed it forward to counter the fifa demo? could be a smart move, stop fifa from gathering so much steam

If someone produced a good game and people refused to buy it because previous releases were poor, then those people arent all that bright. If that was the case, FIFA would be screwed.

You all need to read this review of both games by psm3 magazine.
http://pes2008editing.blogspot.com/2009/09/psm3-pes-2010-vs-fifa-10-preview.html
This review focuses on each individual aspect of both games against each other. It fails to pick up that for all the good things that FIFA has, when put together, it doesnt play well. Surely thats the whole point.
This is not a final review, it is a preview of the games. PSM3 will review both games in either the next issue or the one after that. They always give a percentage score so this is not a review.
yeah hawkeye you muppet
Im looking forward to see the challenge between the two (yes two only, unfortunately) football gaming big contenders fifa vs. pes. I’ve heard many people’s opinions and I’ve read lots of reviews and blogs about fifa and pes recently and most of them were saying that fifa09 was awesome and pes2009 was poor and disappointing. Probably the main reason to this was the poor online of pes and the lack of new additions and pretty much the same master league. However in my opinion pes still feels much more like football. The main issue in a footballing game is definitely the game-play. I’ve been playing fifa since fifa98 but when i got my first copy of pes which was pes4 i have never gone back to fifa. I still do play fifa to get a taste of what fifa brings but it doesnt last for long as after about 5-10 matches of fifa i have to carry on with my beloved pes as fifa feels dodgy, awkwardly-playable and the goals that are scored just dont feel or look right in my opinion. fifa in no doubt looks good and sounds good (thanks to their decent menu soundtracks) in lot of aspects and the licensing and decent online is what makes them thick. Those are the aspects of fifa that puts the pressure on pes but when it comes to gameplay, pes just sweeps it all. somehow pro just feels more realistic, and looks more realistic. pes offers challenging, art and passion all in one where fifa does a good job on overall. the gameplay of PES just suits me more. Cant wait to test them both once they’re out at the end of october so i will see if fifa can steal my heart away from pes this year which they failed to do since i played pes4.
Fifa…never really played
Looks awesome, smoother than pes in youtube videos or watching someone play
Have put in hundreds of hours in PES 08 and 09 (first real taste of game)
and lovit.
Half my good mates play it or swear by it
Am addicted to the PES10 demo…it really is that good
360 controls are how it should be
shooting is more satisfying and realistic…you can come close, but not score every 30 yard shot. You might even miss a tap-in if you time it wrong.
Less silly mistakes from the defence and keeper
better graphics even on my dodgy dell laptop with 1GB RAM and a 128MB of graphics memory! and still runs smoothly
