Interfering With Play – Tuesday 29th September 2009

IWP League Champion 2009 : Ivan Kostic (Internacional)

Welcome to this week’s Interfering With Play. Almost comically this week, my IWP column may end up being the shortest of the three articles on PESGaming.com. I really enjoyed Double D’s post last Thursday, was exactly what I felt needed to be put down. He made some excellent points and I am sure he answered a few lingering questions from my article last week too. In The Red was also a good read this week.  The PESGaming.com team have known for a while about Francis’ commitments regarding game testing, which is why his experience in the field is invaluable. I think most of you will also respect that fact that the legal implications for anything Francis may say would be much bigger than he can afford to get into, and therefore I hope many of you respect his request to no question him regarding PES 2010. It is also a big week as ‘the other football game’ is being widely praised and released this week. For those who have come down in the last shower, or just for those who didn’t really pay attention too much, FIFA has always received respectable ratings on the big gaming sites. At the same time, IGN rated PES 2008 a 9.2 but 2009 an 8.5 when it was pretty clear 2009 was a better all round game. I believe that whilst game ratings are a very important part of the video gaming world, games are as much about opinions as they are ratings and that even if PES were to get a perfect score, there would be still hundreds of complaints about the game. With that said, lets crack on with this week’s IWP.

“It’s All About The Money”

First point this week, and something that is almost comical. Ever since I started writing for this site, I have stuck by a couple of simple guidelines. One, always admit if I believe I have made a mistake, either with a piece of information or a fact that I have misinterpreted. Two, try to deliver honest opinions that are based on my own views and experiences. And three, never give my opinions on an incomplete or unfinished game. This was over two years ago, and I believe on the whole I have stuck to this mantra.

So it is a bit mad when people are saying that we are refusing to criticise or comment on the PES 2010 demo because we have ‘sold out’ or been ‘paid off’ by Konami. I want to put on record that the day something I say within IWP or on this site is deleted or edited by anyone due to keep Konami, or anyone else, happy is the day that Interfering With Play is done. I will write a review of both FIFA 10 and PES 2010 for PESGaming.com after having a couple of weeks with each game, and make an informed and rational decision on each game. Until then, everything I write about both games will be small and not really reflect my full opinion.

I pride myself on my views, and am so glad there are people out there who agree with what I say and write each week. I am also so glad there are people out there who disagree with my point of view. It makes for interesting comments and debates upon the boards. I wouldn’t change this and long may it continue! I have also had some really good e-mails this week, in the 50 + region, and I am working through them all and doing my best to reply to each individually. One thing I believe PESGaming.com has always done is call it like we see it, and as long as that continues to happen, I guarantee the views on this site will be our own, and not filtered by Konami, no matter what perks or promises are laid on the table.

“I Am The Music Man”

Just a little up date on the IWP Play list, and the people who have actually got involved this year. I have actually spoken to a couple of DJs who are going to send through a couple of remixes for the list. I will be double checking with the powers that be as to whether or not we will be able to host these direct on PESGaming or they will have to be downloaded from a different site. I have also spoken to a couple of bands who are sending us songs which I will be looking to use in this years play list.

Of course, this acts as free PR for any up and coming bands or artists, and is a great way to get your name and music heard by thousands of people daily. If you are interested in being involved in the play list, or would simply like a bit more information, feel free to get in touch on the e-mail address featured at the end of this article.

“Was It Worth It?”

As I said earlier, slightly shorter piece this week. I feel with the amount of work I will be doing regarding my reviews as well as a few other little things, I will take the opportunity to use the back seat and let Double D and Francis build on their top posts from last week. My last topic really relates to something that I have mentioned before, but I feel at this time of year, it is always important to look back on. For the first time in the past 12 months, I have not played Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. The demo has been on every time I have needed my football fix, and due to work commitments and a course all over the weekend, I have not even had the disc in my console. Chances are, with PES2010 just four weeks away, it will be a similar situation for many other gamers out there.

At the same time, I have heard people on the boards going mad, screaming that they refuse to ‘waste £40’ on PES this year. So as it draws to a close, I ask how many people on this site actually feel PES 2009 has given them value for money. Pretty simple question, and as I said, something that has been addressed before, however, with so many new faces visiting each and every day, its good to get a different perspective from people who may not have been asked the question before. Providing you picked the game up new, you will have spent in the region of £30-£40 on Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. For me, this has equated to other 200 hours of game time, plus a number of half matches that for one reason or another I didn’t have time to complete. When comparing this to the games I purchases in fall 2008, games which I enjoyed such as Mirror’s Edge, Rock Band and Tomb Raider, the actual lifespan and value far outweighs the time spent on the other titles put together. For me, it is deemed every penny well spent, and before any smart comments come flying in, I purchased my copy of the game just like every body else, even paying £40 for it!

On top of this, I have had many hours of conversations, along with the weekly column and the organisation of the IWP League to fully justify the purchase of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. Irrelevant of anyone else’s views, I have got my money worth! But that’s just me. I know some people will have purchased the game to take it back, whereas others will have just not played the game, opting for more online friendly games such as Call Of Duty. Finally, there is the number of people that own both FIFA and PES, and have yet decided to give FIFA the run in their console for the past 12 months.

With this said, I go back to the question, do you feel Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 has given you value for money? Please leave your views as always in the form of comments, and I especially look forward to hearing from new community members or even people visiting the site for the first time.

That’s your lot for this week. Voting is still going for the IWP Player Of The Season award, simply choose your three favourite players from PES 2009 and send them either via comment or e-mail, this year is running tighter than ever, so every vote really does count. interferingwithplay@hotmail.co.uk is the place where you can direct your e-mail to, and please show respect to other community members when writing your comments or replies. Any foul or abusive language aimed at other people will see you post deleted, and as Double D suggested, your access to the website restricted.

Thanks for Reading

I agree 100% with the post, starting with ISS on N64 through PES2009, I always get more than my moneys worth with Konami. Love the 2010 demo btw.

  8. capitan esteban Says:

I don’t need any info on the Edit mode, cause I like to find out by myself the day that I buy the game, I am so excited to put my hands on PES2010.

I don’t think its fair to compare number of gaming hours across titles because after all, a soccer game is a soccer game and with the minimum of 20 mins per game, you will definitely chalk up the number of hours played. I think that it would be more fair to answer the question, which game has given you the better soccer gaming experience, FIFA 09 or PES 2009. As an ardent advocate of PES for many years already, i simply have to say i was more inclined to put my FIFA 09 disc into my console compared to PES2009, which i felt was extremely innovative and boring with its gameplay and presentation. Having had the opportunity to step up in two iterations (2008 and 2009)and failing, i absolutely felt that as a consumer, i would just go with the game that provides me with the most fun, innovative, realistic and interesting experience .. and that was fifa09 by a mile. Granted that it was not without its own flaws but the continuous push for improvement, compared to the sheer laziness of konami ultimately forced me to make the switch. Let’s hope the competition will be closer this year.

  12. MagicaRoma Says:

Dan, waht do you mean with

“I guarantee the views on this site will be our own, and not filtered by Konami, no matter what perks or promises are laid on the table”

Does that imply there ARE strings Konami tries to tie underneath the table? As the ‘perks & promises’ part really sounds to me like Konami TRIES to put some pressure on what you guys can and can not write….

  13. Kev sol Says:

PES 2009 was worth the £27 that I paid for in Asda last year, I would have paid £40 for it, that’s how much I enjoyed it. I clocked up nearly 150 hours of play which isn’t bad for a father of 3.

Just got a PS3, can anyone advise on the best USB + size for downloading edited kits?

  14. Billy Says:

MagicaRoma as i said (post 34) in francis article, smart people understood….
Dan bolas 3 things we wanted
    1)human animations
    2)smarter goalkeepers not cheat
    3) lag free online but…only minor fixes we got

  15. PesUnintended Says:

    agree with #11

cannot compare pes with other games, since the gameplay is differ for each genre

but still i think pes is worth the money invested :)

  16. Adraeth Says:

Remember i was in doubts on buying FIFA or PES??

Well, i plaied both demo (the european one for FIFA and the japanese one for PES)… so i have to admit that thanks to the SuperStar (6 stars) level, the PES feeling of the game as goog old days games… i will buy PES 2010… and not FIFA, because FIFA 10 is too much similar to FIFA 09 (i think it is a really good game… but there is nothing really new).

PES 2010 is a strong step forward

  17. Steve67 Says:

Good article Dan. Sorry to say i paid £40 too much for PES 2009 as the fact alone that konami thought for one minute that we would want so much AI assistance is shocking!! They blatently put out an half finished game with bad sound and player movement and thought ‘what the hell these suckers will still buy it’!! When you play 2009 and then play PES 6 on PS2 it is embarrassing just how far backwards it had gone (graphics aside).

  18. william martin Says:

Ok iv been ok pro evo 2010, with my m8..What a big joke!! the keepers do not know what the hell they are doing, we went on fifa 2010..what a game..its brings out the wooow in you, pes has relly gone down hill this year..and the year befor that..so was 2008..its a bit of a joke as we went on pro evo.

I did love the game back in the ps2 days. it keep me going all year round.

so as we went on fifa 2010 it was like the best game iv been on for a long time…So from me fifa 2010 is the best game out on the ps3..pro evo will have to go to town next year if they are going to get any ner of fifa.

football is all abt the feel when it comes to play it.
so pro evo this year is just to cumseey, very bad G.Keepers you might as well put no one in.

    its just a bad game.

for me fifa 2010 and im so looking forwood to it like back in the ps2 days with pro evo back then.

  19. william martin Says:

    well doen steve.

pro evo 6 was a fun football game with good online play, and i think its the best football game for the ps2, now fifa 2010 is the best game.

i relly think pro evo has gone back woods for me,

how can any one say fifa has gone down hill.

to me fifa has put a lot of work in to ther game!!!!

just look at pro evo its back to old school.

fifa 2010 has a lot to offer this year.

and i think fifa team for making a game what will see me all the way to next year,

may be pro evo team will get ther akt togiver for next year.

  20. william martin Says:

im getting the game on wenday!! :) my boss works at a game shop as well..:) will let you lot how good the game is but i all redy know how the game will be the best game out ther.

  21. william martin Says:

see you pro evo fans..have fun playing your gay game..lol..

  22. chris-james Says:

Why do a FIFA review ?, I thought this site was called pesgaming. I’m not saying FIFA is a bad game, it’s not my cup of tea though. Looking forward to PES 2010, if it plays well online it’s gonna be sweet!!!!

  23. Gaz (Obiwan King Off - Xbox Live) Says:

    Hi Guys,

Long time reader first time poster – Firstly I’m no PES fan boy. I’ve played PES since the SNES days & until 2008 I was always very happy with the series. I’m still playing PES06 on the xbox 360 (as many of my friends are). I won’t go in to the failings of 2008 & 2009 here, as it has been covered in greater detail by people with more passion/knowledge than me.

This post is about the up and coming PES2010. After playing the demo I was actually impressed but wasn’t woo’d enough to get excited & then reading that the European demo was in fact a build from the time of Jesus it did explain why the demo is so unresponsive & very annoying.

Then reading that the Jap demo was more comparable to the finished product I was really confused by the actions of the PR team behind PES. Why release a shabby demo to the Europeans?. Crazy.

Anyhow last night I set up a new Xbox live ID and set my location as Hong Kong, enabling me access to their market place and in turn the Winning Eleven demo.

And WOW! What a difference from the PES10 demo guys. Firstly there’s 4 teams – Barca, Liverpool, Italy & Brazil. There’s 3 stadiums in this demo & 6 levels of difficulty – That’s the basics!

The big differences I noticed are that the game has been slowed down more, which is magic. Unresponsive players are non existent, 360 control is deffo noticeable, keepers are still a bit wacky but really unrecognisable from the PES10 demo.

If you have a 360 guys I would deffo recommend making a new ID and just setting your location as Hong Kong, with all new ID’s you get 30 trail free of xbox live gold so you can download demos.

Also this trick works from the American market place, which will give you access to demos that we don’t get – such as Afro Samurai for example.

    Cheers
    Gaz

  24. chris-james Says:

    @ william martin

Are you running late for play school, hopefully today they’ll teach you to spell.

Don’t see why PES is a gay game, unless the realistic graphics turn you on.

  25. Shtoomer Says:

Wow, good work Konami. You have really listened to us fans again this year.

The game this year is still an incomplete game (if the we demo is anything to go by, and it is). 208 was 30% build, 2009 70% build and 2010 looks to be a 90% build. When will we get a complete game without major bugs/flaws?

I am disappointed again this year, and it seems as though PES is turning into FIFA and FIFA is turning into PES. By this i mean that PES used to equal great game play, rough visuals and severe lack of liscenses, but the gameplay was impossible to overlook because it was so good. FIFA was liscenses and visuals with poor gameplay. The table shave now turned with FIFA improving its gameplay to be better than PES, and PES has decided to counter this by getting the CL liscence and gorgeous visuals. Why? GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY konami!!!!!!!

  26. Skeletor Says:

Bought my PES 2009 on the release date, I think it’s a great game, though somehow, it seems like i’m a minority.
I estimate I’ve spent the same amount of hours into this game alone this year, than all the other games in total this year.
I’ve played both demos of FIFA 10 and PES 2010 and I think PES 2010 is awesome, cant wait for the final game :)

  27. Rama78 Says:

I laughed when I read this part of your blog:

“For the first time in the past 12 months, I have not played Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. The demo has been on every time I have needed my football fix, and due to work commitments and a course all over the weekend, I have not even had the disc in my console.”

I F#CKING HATE THE DEMO!!! DO YOU KNOW WHY???

Coz its not feckin long enuf! lol

I absolutely love it the more I play it and even though it annoys me coz the games are short I havent really played any of my other games. Cant wait for the full release. Its gonna be brilliant.

People arent giving the demo time and a chance. Its brilliant. The atmosphere of the games will be so much better also when the commentary is added in. I think this is a big point people arent picking up on.

I went for fifa last year coz of pes 2008 and the poor online system. I loved fifa but it soon become boring and manager mode made me yawn after a few seasons.

I bought PES 2009 pre-owned for 12 quid and although it has its problems it was a breathe of fresh air.

  28. Baz Man Says:

I have to say i bought PES ‘08 & ‘09 and stopped playing each of them after about a month. Main reason being they are unplayable online, so each time i’ve gone back to FIFA. I wouldn’t mind a change this year, so if Konami have finally got their finger out and fixed all the issues that hounded the past 2 titles, then i’ll give this years offering a good go. From the demo, the players still seem to run around like their trying out for Riverdance, but hopefully the gameplay will overshadow that this year

  29. Shoayb_MUFC Says:

There have been some games that I have bought on my PS3 that I have regretted in buying, but never Pro Evolution Soccer. No matter how many bad comments it gets or how poor the rating is, I have always pre-ordered PES and never regretted or got bored of playing it.

At the moment on PES2009, I am playing the Legend mode, which I think is the best part of it. The first time I started the Legend mode I was a central midfielder and doing well at Manchester United. About a month ago I decided to start again and this time as a striker. I am already on my forth season.

Sometimes I play Master League or Champions League or maybe even a few friendlies. I definitely think I got good value for money.

    Can’t wait for PES2010!

  30. Gazza C Says:

Hi im new to the site…as regards your question re pro 2009..yes it was worth £40…but it sucked big time online.

Been playing pro since the ISS days, always felt it was the best footy game out there, not so sure now…PES demo was awful IMO…Fifa demo this year has made me sit up and take notice of it…first time since Fifa 98..I just hope the final PES game will be ok as i have a “fondness” for pes after all these years…but as a consumer who like everyone else works hard for their money…I will be buying the game that gives me the most fun.

  31. bopez Says:

been playing the winning eleven 10 demo solidly for a few days now. Its a lot better than the PES2010 demo.

The only critisim, which is prehaps a bit harsh, is that I feel as though the game forces you to play in one way. The reason I say tahts harsh is because I’ve been playing the game at ‘Superstar’ level and maybe the computers are really good at harrassing the players. I’ve not lost a game yet, but not really felt as though I can do what I really feel like doing..

I find myself passing passing passing then shooting, where as before I’d turn a player, maybe drag them out of position, and shoot in a different way. Shooting is far too easy I feel and seems to be more computer controlled. Player movement always seems somewhat linear and restricted. I think players are easier able to out muscle one and other so thats another thing I’ll have to get used to.

Having said all that I actually quite like the game. When I play with my mates we usually play with player condition on maximum so thats another factor.. Overall the game is very addictive and absolutely pisses all over the PES2010 demo. I did the unthinkable and downloaded the fifa demo for the first time in my life, only improvements I’d like to see imported from that game to PES are maybe the more fluid animations when turning, the option for manual passing and that slider that allows you to change how players are selected (Something PES invented but then ditched).

All in all the release date cant come soon enough. I cant wait to try out Man Utd – obviously a game takes on a new life when you can control your actual team, as opposed to LFC on default!!

You guys got any opinions on the WE2010 demo?

  32. bopez Says:

Oh and regards to how review sites rate the game – I think they were spot on. A game is supposed to progress. ISS98 was a better game than PES2009 but if you compared directly without considering when they were released then obviously PES2009 wins. Similarly Goldeneye is the best first person shoot em up (for me) ever.. if you consider when it was released.

PES2008 was a decent game with rubbish online – PES2009 wasnt much better and in some ways a step backward. I dont think PES6 could be compared to either as it wasnt really next gen, and the version on the xbox was very very basic.

@30 create a japanese xbox/psn account then download winning eleven – it will make you feel better (probably not allay all your concerns though)

  33. AdamB Says:

Of course theres perks with every dedicated site covering a certain game!

Pesgaming, WENB, FSB all have to show some favour otherwise they dont get the perks! At the end of the day Konami is a business and they need their product seen in the best possible light.

  34. Baz Man Says:

The thing is FIFA has actually evolved over the last few years into a top football game, whereas PES has stood still, or even gone backwards in alot of people eyes. If this year’s isn’t up to scratch then i’m gonna forget about PES, i’m not gonna listen to more false promises about how next year’s version is going to be the best yet. How about get a new game engine Konami and stop being so miserable.

  35. myblueheaven Says:

How i love konami but i have to admit as much as i love the we demo im still a little concerned again this year that konami are falling further behind EA.Reasons,as much as the player faces have improved how much are the graphics a step up from last year not much and even the creased shirts look awful. Not only this but the through ball is awful the passing is hit and miss and now the game is faster then pes2009 which takes away any player individuality because everythings ultra fast.

Im concerned i really am konami seem intent on just peddling the same game every year with tiny improvements in the gameplay, yes, overall its smoother and the passings better then last year but theres still the same faults that every pes has and its still feels very last gen.

I have never brought a fifa game but i will thursday because despite horrible player close ups at least the through ball works the passings crisp and you have the option of going manual, not only this but you have dynamic weather, snow and what seems to be more depth now in the gameplay.

I really want konami to regain the crown but again this year it seems lke another years been wasted, yes,im sure the masterleagues good and weve got the champions league but the games still not solid enough on the pitch so im going fifa10

p.s also ea have done what konami fail to do recycle the brilliance of games like ISS64,ISS98,ISS2000 instead just choosing to polish that ps2 turd pes.Oh and wake up konami before you loose all your fanbase.

  36. Jasperinho Says:

    @10 (SERAJ KSA)

Why don’t you create a PSN account in Japan and download the Winning Eleven demo? That should work on your PS3 as well. I did the same and I am based in Europe

@23 (Gaz (Obiwan King Off – Xbox Live)

Fully agree – the demo of Winning Eleven is much and much better than the PES 2010 demo. Downloaded it yesterday and couldn’t believe the differences! Looking forward to the final game on the 23rd of October, which will absolutely be worth the money!

  37. myblueheaven Says:

i forgot to say ive had nine years of the same game on the ps2 i want something a bit more fresh not just ps2 pes with better graphics and the same flaws and problems.

  38. myblueheaven Says:

honestly guys your love the we demo for about four days then the old pes faults will rear there ugly head and your tire of the broken through ball and stray passing and get bored of the same gameplay weve had now for ten years that hasnt changed.

  39. william martin Says:

see what im going on abt…pro evo is only for kids now..fifa 2010 is the king of games now.

  40. william martin Says:

G.Keepers will be the bug in the game play of pro evo 2010, so bad. what do u think all, iv not seen one good save yet!! all they do is save it then let it in the net..how sad is that!!!!

  41. william martin Says:

if any one has any good saves of the game send them on to here then we can see how bad they aer!!

  42. william martin Says:

if any one has any good saves of the game keepers send them on to here then we can see how bad they are of the of this year!!

  43. william martin Says:

if any one has any good saves of the game keepers send them on to here then we can see how bad they are of this year!!

  44. myblueheaven Says:

    Baz Man

Agreed, its been the same for the last two years and its the same game but slightly improved graphics which arent as amazing as people make out and the animation ruins the graphics.

I remember jo murph, wenb all saying the games different now, bull****,its the same game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!after 2 days play.

  45. Baz Man Says:

And the problem is, it’s people like us who keep buying the game each year in the hope that it will live up to past glories. We should vote with our wallets this year guys, if it’s not up to scratch, just don’t buy it. That’s the only way Konami will listen and maybe, just maybe they might sit down this year and start from scratch. But that probably won’t happen in all honesty, and i fear for the future of PES

  46. myblueheaven Says:

    Baz Man

Im not buying it,hate to say it i really do but fifa10 is better in all departments and i thought i would never say that, how things change.

  47. Baz Man Says:

I’m the same mate, i’m going with FIFA this year aswell. It’s a much more polished game all round. Every dog has it’s day, and PES is just about to be put down like a 15 year old Labrador. But by god she was a great dog!

  48. myblueheaven Says:

konami back in the day on the n64 had a brilliant set piece and free kick system and also one-two system that you controlled as was the penaltie system.Look what we have now the free kicks are innacurate and crap as well as the whole set piece system and konami cant even get the through ball right, this **** is the basics and the assisted passing is so awful.

Made worse by the fact that they had it so right on the n64,bring back major a and get rid of that idiot seabass!!!!!!!!

  49. Rastroll Says:

How do you change your location to be able to play the we demo on xbox?

  50. Clark_walker Says:

    @35
“p.s also ea have done what konami fail to do recycle the brilliance of games like ISS64,ISS98,ISS2000 instead just choosing to polish that ps2 turd pes.Oh and wake up konami before you loose all your fanbase.”

    ohh well..Konami i guess i’m the one fan that you won’t lose…even if everyone’s jumped ship…

  51. Quique Says:

Mmmm… I’ve been buying this game each year since it was first out back in the 90’s. Every year, i play it until the next one is out. I don’t know if it worths the money i spend every year, but i’m sure that it gives me an year of pleasure every time, better version or worse.
    (Sorry for my English…)

  52. Custard Cream Says:

THIS IS WHAT HAS BEEN PUT ON THE WENB WEBSITE:
Yep thats right, we have confirmation that friends of the site PSM3 have secured the world exclusive review of PES 2010!

The issue hits tomorrow in the UK, so be sure to pick it up and see what Dan and the guys think of Konami’s latest offering. The header shows a sneak peak of what the packaging looks like.

Also, to add some drama, PSM3 review FIFA 10 in the same issue. Who will win? Only one way to find out…

please read it, I think you will all be pleasantly surprised!

  56. myblueheaven Says:

    Clark_walker

Do you think we want to sell are souls to ea no!.Fact is the pes demo is the right speed but has awful response, the we demo has good response but it plays out at benny hill pace, the set piece system is still floored and broken and the short pass is so assisted it always goes to the nearest player as do goal kicks.

The through ball goes from powerful to mega weak, players are sticky and pull up and the lofted one-two is as broken and inconsistent as its ever been. The keepers are worse then ever the headings still hit and miss and forwards are still slow to move towards crosses.

Its not rocket science to fix these issues and its not like we the fans havent been telling konami all year.

Then we move onto the loose goal nets and some of the worse collision detection that i have seen in games since the ps1 days and it goes from fix one thing and create even more problems.

  57. Gaz (Obiwan King Off - Xbox Live) Says:

    @53 BIG G – agree mate see my post 23 -

I couldn’t believe the difference and i’m actually excited for PES10 now! You can actually win headers on this version of the demo lol..

  58. alanog Says:

i think its been great value for ,money up until 2008 when they went a bit stale, hoping and anticipating that will change come pes2010. the demo looks great and if they deliver the feel in the final version i will be a very please customer once more.

  59. Rastroll Says:

Gaz how do i change my location to be able to download the we demo?

  60. myblueheaven Says:

Before people tell me through balls are dictated by player stats even a conference league player can deliver a consistent through ball.

Take J-LEAGUE WE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 as a example on the ps2 a 14 month old game that makes a ps3 next gen game look broken, sorry but this is not good enough and it has snow.

Your all getting excited about a we demo that is great for a couple of days until you start to see all the old flaws again, there not going to fix it by release, wait until the reviews come in and your see pes2010 getting 8/10.

  64. Gaz (Obiwan King Off - Xbox Live) Says:

    @Rastroll

You’ll need to make a new XBOX live ID – just sign out of your profile and go through the set up process again but be sure to make your location as HONG KONG.

Process takes about 15 minutes or so, and you will get a 30 day free trail of xbox live gold so you’ll be able to download demos etc.

P.s when picking an email account you can use a falseone – something like bhrlehhgerjke@yahoo.com etc etc :) If you need further help mate just let me know.

  65. Rob Says:

I personally thought PES 09 is a great game (offline only)
and as I did’nt pay full price for it (traded in other games)I feel it has brought me many hours of football pleasure. Yes! it is flawed, yes! it does sound terrible, but, my god it delivers a good football game.
I was fortunate enough to have bought FIFA 09 as well and for a while enjoyed it immensely, however, it didn’t have the longevity that PES offers and now PES is all I play.
The WE demo seems more polished than the PES demo and looks absolutely beautiful and pisses all over FIFA’s graphics, also the gameplay seems more solid than PES and I
can’t stop playing it. In conclusion I will probably buy both titles (FIFA/PES) again as football is my life and virtually all I play(apart from the odd excursion into C.O.D
    which is outstanding).

    Thanks for your time.

  66. Rastroll Says:

Thanks gaz, i created the new account but it never asked me to enter my location. it assumed it was the same location from my other account.

  67. Blade1889 Says:

PES 2009 offers great value for money in my opinion. I paid £32 for the game last October and I think it was a bargain if you compare it to other games.

My second most played game of 2009 is GTA IV and I paid £40 for that. I’ve clocked up around 45 hours on that and I feel I’ve got value for money.

On PES 2009 I’ve clocked up over 150 hours so its been great value for money!! Plus with a football title no game is exactly the same so it’s always fairly fresh. With a game like GTA, if you go through the game again you’ll be repeating a lot of things.

Can’t wait to get my hands on PES 2010! I’ve preorderd it so hoping it’ll arrive a couple of days early :)

  68. Gaz (Obiwan King Off - Xbox Live) Says:

Hmm…you should be signed in with your new profile now, but not connected to xbox live – click on connect to xbox live it should then run through a set up process asking you confirm all your details, such as location, name etc etc.

  69. Rastroll Says:

    @ gaz
I have the 1 month free already the profile is online. during the process it never asked me for my location. Doesn’t matter, ill wait for the final game to come out.

    Thanks anyway

  70. Gaz (Obiwan King Off - Xbox Live) Says:

ahh i see…it does mate when you confirm your details it automatically defaults to your location – you have to manually change this – it won’t ask you to confirm where you are – sorry i didnt explain clearly! it’s near the end step when you confirm the passwords etc, it’s near the top of the menu bar.

  71. Rastroll Says:

cool, thanks il try it again.

  72. myblueheaven Says:

    Rastroll

I agree about not every ball reaching its destination but if you direct a short pass to one player and it goes to the player you dont want it to even though you make sure your facing that direction and have your players feet right its not right plus the through ball might be blocked but not due to a lack of pace when you forward or winger is in lots of space and you have time.It has nothing to do with player stats as even a lower league pro can hit a descent through ball.

Do you think im being critical for the sake of it im just not kidding myself i love pes2010 but its floored you can live in denial but sooner or later it will slowly creep up on you the cold bite of reality.

Fact is these are the basics and konami on the next gen can not get this right.I too understand how football works and have been playing konami footie games since the nes back in the late eighties and frankly the continued flaws in pes now is becoming ludicrous have you seen the way player limbs go through over players in pes2010 in replays this is awful.

    fifaAjokes

Stop this copycat nonsense,so what does it matter if ea deliver a more polished passing and through ball system on the pitch good on them, konami cant even get the basics of football right after three years on the next gen.

If your happy paying for yet another graphical respray thats not much better then pes2009 go ahead but dont moan two weeks down the line when the flaws start to frustrate.

Yet another year and another floored game watch out for the anger on WENB and PESGAMING in the months to come.

  73. Rastroll Says:

gaz thnx for the help. Im downloading at the moment :)

  74. Jasperinho Says:

@61 what is important is where the servers are located in which you log on.. Even if you sit next to each other on two different PS3’s etc., the delay depends on the distance of the servers, the capacitity of your connection, and the capacity of the servers of the PSN. Obviously, it helps if the distance between you and the player you play against online isn’t enormous, but I suspect that the above criteria are more important..

  75. Gaz (Obiwan King Off - Xbox Live) Says:

nice one!…any time mate & let us know what you think man & what differences you notice :) be good to know that it’s not my imagination!

  76. Rastroll Says:

    Myblueheaven
Your right on the through balls, sometimes it does not reach the player no matter for how long you press the button. Though this is something that could have easily been fixed already. Regarding the short passing i have to say i have not experienced any problems. 2008 had this issue but i haven’t seen it on the pes 2010 demo.

  77. Rastroll Says:

    @ 71
So perhaps the video is a good indication of lag-less online play?

  78. Dopecoil Says:

    myblueheaven 72

Your right the more i play the we demo the more the usual frustrations rear there ugly head and i have been defending konami for days.

Funny thing is despite the floatie players fifa10 is actually a better game now forget pes2010s pretty player faces its just the same game with slightly better passing even graphically on the ps3 its not the revolution WENB and other sights have been making it out to be and the animation like you have said destroys this.

  79. myblueheaven Says:

    Rastroll

Its because the short pass is assisted the more you play it the more you notice it,your have a player in a lovely position but because there is a player nearer the cpu overrides your command and sends it to the player nearest to your player with the ball ive also noticed it quite a lot on long passes as well and also goal kicks.

The through ball goes from fine to awful and again its because of com assistance overriding your command.I dont have a problem with the through ball being intercepted thats real but when you have time and space its unforgivable.

The problem is konami dont seem to realise that even lower stat pro can hit a descent cross, through ball its like they only think the top players can do it when this is not the case.Top players just have a much smaller accuracy window where as a pro with lesser ability might not be as accurate.

Its the same in the master league no team is that weak to start with even a conference side pro can shoot, pass, cross well.

  80. Rastroll Says:

    Myblueheaven
The passes are assisted but i find the longer you press the pass button the further the ball travels. So if you want to pass to a player thats further away, just hold pass longer. I admit a few times the ball does go to a player you did not intend to pass it to, though only when both players (the receiver and the player meant to receive) are near each other. Im talking about short passes here (pressing the A or X buttons.) I honestly must insist, i do not find them flawed.

  81. Rastroll Says:

Then again, if you find that the passing is flawed try playing with manual passing. its a lot harder but maybe if you get the hang of it much more satisfying. I myself have never tried it other than in free kicks or goal kicks.
unfortunately you can’t use manual passing in free kicks or goal kicks in the demo.

  82. Steve67 Says:

I think the reason FIFA IMO is the better game now is because EA has done the right thing and listened to what the fans have been saying and actually done something about the problems of 09. Konami have ’said’ they will listen to fans but can anyone tell me what they have realy done thats really a wow factor? Ok 360 dribbling (that doesnt really make much difference because of poor player animation) but what else?
    * where are more stadiums?
    * where are extra teams to make up your countries two tier league in master league?
    * where is the mo-cap for players? (they all move basically the same as PES 09 in that they run like crouched old men)
    * Still have dodgy looking menu’s
    * Still poor crowd chanting
    * Still relatively poor commentry
    * Same old camera angles..wheres the zoomable camera?
    * Still passes going where you dont want.
    * Still AI clearances
Can anyone please tell me where the improvements are from PES 6 on the PS2?
I think we have again been fooled as most of Konami’s work has gone into the graphical side of the game.
Maybe im been a little premature as im judging by the demo but WE 10 is meant to be virtually the smae and is meant to be near finished code. Oh well are we really suprised by Konami?

  83. clark_walker Says:

    @56 myblueheaven

bro, the only thing i wud agree with you is the goalkeeping..that’s it.

i’m not the “have played pes since ps1…blah blah.)guy. i played pes…actually it was winning eleven 9 that i was introduced by a friend of mine. before that i was always fifa..but after that day….pes has always been the…THE football game for me.
and the thing is, blueheaven, that, i am an unlucky fellow that i don’t have an Xbox360 or Ps3…but only a PC. i did download fifa 10 for pc…and it’s downright ****…
so you see…i will always stick with PES…besides theres always mods, pathes and stuff….
    cheers
    enjoy fifa 10 bro
    peace

  84. Suv Says:

Very good question there Dan. Simple but very effective imo.
I have been buying PES games for many years now and i personally think that is one thing i always feel is spot on with PES games. Yeah, they always have something to moan about but i always get my money’s worth, and since next gen(now current gen lol) consoles have been around there seems to be alot of half arsed games released in the sense of replayability(is that an actual word?) and general longevity imho.
I kinda blame online modes for this (although i have nothing against online play itself at all) as i feel it gives the developers an excuse to dumb down the base depth of a game and direct focus to the online feature. This certainly isnt the case with all games but i do feel some games end up very shallow at the core because of this.
So to sum up….Ive had a XBox360 and i currently own a PS3. There are many games i feel have not been worth £30-£40 over the last few years as i find myself completing them too quickly or simply finding them too repetative. Because of this my gaming has been cut right back due to lack of interest for many types of games and quite simply because im getting older too, but PES is one of the few games that i still play very often several months after buying it. It has its flaws like every other game but its never one to sit on the shelf for long. Hell, im still playing PES2009 now! Only yesterday i had one of the longest jams on BAL mode that i can remember as i transferred to Barcelona and just couldnt get enough of the teams overall quality. It was so refreshing. My mate even came round and banged in 4 goals for England in the opening match of the world cup, and up until then both of us dreaded playing for England as it almost always seemed disappointing after every international 90mins due to poor team play.
My point is that PES can always be worth its money if you give it a chance. I do have to leave out the first 360 version of PES from this opinion though as i persoanlly found that to be terrible all round tbh. It was the only time i traded in a 360 game for a PS2 game LOL.

Your talking to a pes master sorry you can try and convince me as much as you want about holding the pass button for longer but ive played every pes to death including pes2009 and its the same old problems year after year.

I dont know whether its fan feedback and people constantly crying out for pes6 but pes is not evolving its just become stagnent with the same old irratations and niggles.

Its needs to be re-built and konami need to go back to gams like ISS and perfect striker for inspiration because these games gave you total control.

  88. Steve67 Says:

    @ post 86 myblueheaven

Its a shame people are quick to be critical when someone comes on here and says FIFA is the better game this year. I always loved PES but Konami have been blatent in their ignorance towards what us fans want. Am i right in reading they have even put an embargo on any PES v FIFA reviews until a few weeks time? Why? because they dont want their game slated before release which will affect sales.
I get fed up with so-called PES fans saying were FIFA fanboys if we say that game is better but to be honest i just want a great realistic football game and FIFA this year gives us a real good effort.

  89. Anonymous Says:

I went out and bought Fifa 2009 last year, because i followed my mates advice. I had bought PES 2009 but was so cheesed off with the online play that i traded the game in. I was extremely impressed with FIFA, and starting from August this year the arguments between my mates have started on what game to buy. Its been a difficult decision because i feel the PES 2010 is going to be excellent, however I still think they will need another year to crack it. I am buying Fifa 2010 for two reasons, 1) because it will again be a great game, and the biggest reason because ITS COMES OUT THIS FRIDAY !!!!

This is huge for me and i still cannot understand from a marketing point of view why Konami would not release the game the same time as FIFA. I know if it was released the same time, the decision would be very difficult…….knowing me though, i will rent PES 2010 out and end up regretting buying FIFA……..DAMM

  90. Rastroll Says:

Hi Dan, nice IWP article. So let’s get straight to your question:

I have played more than 250 hours of PES09 since the first day of its release. I’ve payed 70 euro for it, and it is worth every cent. It’s the game I had the most fun with, playing with friends and family in particular.
Master league has sucked up the complete time when I was playing alone, I am in year 10 or whatsoever, and I still play it.
To my mind it was (and still is) a fantastic game and I’m looking forward to the next installment of the PES series, as the demo has really blown me away.

I will decide to buy Pes2010 or fifa when reviews of both full games are released. But based on demos Il be sticking with pes 2010, even though a week ago i was more inclined to fifa.

  96. Baz Man Says:

All i want is a good football game to play, be it online or with my mates. I couldn’t care less which company makes the game, but i think it’s fair to say FIFA has taken over as the better football game over the past 3 years. Huge improvments in the gameplay, the commentary, vast amount of teams to choose from (all of which are genuine), excellent online modes, and the overall presentation of the game gives it something extra. It saddens me to say this, as i’ve loved PES since it’s first outing on the PS2, but i just don’t see enough change or improvment from PES anymore to warrant me buying this year in year out.

  97. Justin Says:

I have been playing FIFA 10 (full game) for the past two days and I am very disappointed. I see no gameplay fixes from the demo and the only change I noticed was that they have made Diego’s stats better. He was 84 in the demo I think, he is now 87. However, he still feels and plays exactly like he does in the demo (surprise, surprise).

It is still way too easy to break through defences with through balls, finishing is easy no matter which player you are using and when playing against mates every match has close to 10 goals in it.

I am looking forward to PES 2010 even more now than when I first played the WE2010 demo last week.

  98. Me Says:

    Fifa is the best.

    PES is fake and boring!

  99. myblueheaven Says:

    Steve67

Agreed, its true and its a bitter pill to swallow as i have remained true to konami for twenty years.I think the tactics slider is great as are top stats and the card system but in 2009 i cannot accept simple and basic gameplay flaws that have been present in pes since the beginning and are instrumental in the success and failure of any football game.

    Rastroll

You mock ISS but on the n64 but those games where light years ahead of pes and allowed manual passing, shooting and crossing of the left thumbstick and had 360 movement and passing back in 1996,yes,the ball stuck to the players more but strip away the dated graphics and under the surface is the most natural and intuitive button interface and trick system with ai that is still superior to anything on the market.

I played the we demo on superstar last night and in 5 minutes i scored 5 goals due to me knowing where the weakness is in the code and such a simple game breaker should be ironed out in the testing process.

Its not just this its there whole customer relations and arrogance thinking that all western gamers care about is graphics now which seems to be the mentallity of japanese developers.

Such big promises and very little return its seems yet again we the fan have to accept the same old bull**** marketing and spill spouted by WENB and other sites endorsing this below par dross.

  100. Amateur Says:

    @ Justin, 97

It will ALWAYS be too easy to break through defences, mainly because midifield battles are non-existent, and as everyone should know – the game is won on the midfield.

Therefore, without midfield battles football will never feel realistic, it can be fun, but not realistic, or as fun as it could be.

FIFA is not about stats or player attributes, this is why player likenesses are almost non-existent, they have other priorities. And PES is more about player individuality, but haves less freedom when passing the ball.

It is impossible to improve any further because, both EA and Konami are trying to cram 90 minutes of actions into a 10 minute simulation.

And 10 minute simulations cannot handle any more substance, because then it would be unplayable… it must be playable and it should feel “realistic”.

Therefore the AI must be considerably dumb enough, to allow you to create plenty of chances and perhaps score some goals in under 10 minutes of play.

“and when playing against mates every match has close to 10 goals in it”

Pick up and play games… this is what FIFA09 is and most probably, it is the same with FIFA10. And unfortunately, it’s the same with PES09.

They should change their approach, and focus more on 30 or 20 minute simulations. Until then it’s more of the same every year. I’m bored already.

First of all i like the site very much, i come around about once a week to read and all, so good job on that and keep it up here !!

second, I just wanted to say i buy PES since PES4 every year and i honestly think it’s the only game that gives my real value for it’s price since I play it a lot, mostly offline with friends i say about more than 20 hours a week, thats about 80 hours a month and on yearly base go figure. and i did not even counted the many hours of ML.

btw i have 08 and 09 of FIFA also but i think i played 09 maybe about 30 hours since it’s out, so definetly a waste of money for me,

Every other genre has evolved and become so much more but the football genre is stuck in the early ninties with only graphical improvements.

Either we stop this cycle of 12 month annual releases or this problem is set to continue i feel the same as last year the year before and the year before that im sick of this endless cycle of hope that is burst every year when the reality of playing the same game over and over again hits.

How much gameplay do you need to get out of a £30-£40 game to make it value for money?
Going to the cinema 4 times only gives you about 8 hours of entertainment but costs the same.
Since October 08 PES09 has easily clocked up more game time than anything else. I dont even see FIFA09 as a waste of maoney, and that only lasted 2weeks.

For all its flaws, PES09 was a very good purchase.

You can slag off PES08 as much as you like, as I didnt get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Although FIFA08 was no better. But even with all its flaws, annoyances, frustrations, scripting, momentum, AI interference, PES09 delivered the most enjoyment of any game during that time.

sometimes its so annoying to spend a lot of money on a game that is rubbish or has n o lastability

  116. Duffman Says:

    @Steve67

One thing I think is unfair to level at Konami is to say they are just fleecing us out of money by just slightly polishing last years game. Especially when you are bigging up EA. They have produced about 20 football games, of which only a couple were any good. Some people are saying they will turn their backs on PES if it fails to deliver this year. It never stopped people buying FIFA year in year out.

I honestly believe that the PES team have been trying to produce decent titles, they just weren’t set up properly to deliver an adequate next gen game. They have addressed that by changing the way they produce the games, getting a much larger team and budget.

PES09 was quite a leap forward over PES08.

For all of FIFA’s great steps forward, they still cant produce a game I like and I really couldn’t care less what anyone else says, if you disagree with me, you’re wrong :)

  117. soccer fan Says:

i agree with you Duffman, I agree with you

  118. MagicaRoma Says:

Just bought FIFA10 (some shops are selling already in the Netherlands) & I have to say WOW, it does look polished and better than 09!

Can’t really judge thoroughly after only playing for 3 hours, but I have to say that SOME complains that are hurt are either not there or not that bad:

    * The animations are top notch, so real… Mexes made a tackle in the box & Juan raised his arms to say to the referee “he played the ball!”just like in real life.
3 players want to put Totti off-side and stop, than raise there hands and look at the linesmen, 1 makes a gesture to him as to say you bast%rd, it was off-side!:.
Absolutely brilliant how all players act differently animation wise, there was no repetition.

    * Goalkeepers react VERY accurately but still make the old mistake, the amount of animations helps heaps here. Never really had a problem with PES-keepers, they always felt more real to me APART from the rebound goals, which is a BIG APART!

    * Same for commentary, opponent subbed an attacker for a midfielder (as I was winning in midfield) & ANdy Gray went “starnge, 1-0 down and he takes off a striker, what is he thinking?”

    * Players DO feel differently, though not as much as PES,
    TEAMS DO FEEL DIFFERENTLY THOUGH!!
I played Roma-Lazyo & Roma were playing a quick passing game with the technical Menez, Totti & Vucinic!
Than I played Everton-Liverpool and Everton WERE more playing the long ball & looking for the strength of Yakubu.
Maybe players feel more individual with PES, but if I play Roma or Everton, the general team doesn’t MOVE that different imo.

    * Graphics are great from afar, mainly due to the top-notch animations, from up close I still have my doubts.
Replays are awefull!! They take away the exitement. EVerything looks like a SkySports coverage, only for the replays to be taken from a cameraman that seems to lie on his belly in the centre circle, contradiction.
The stadium view you get with EVERY substitution is also a turn-off…

    * The passing feels very fluid and you feel YOU are the one that is in control and it DOES make you feel like watching a real football game, whereas PES seems to have too much CPU influence on your passing and hence feels less ‘real life’.

    * Shooting still feels slightly off…. Don’t know why, but I still don’t get that YEAAAHHH-feeling you get with PES when you score. Still, it felt A LOT more satisfying than scoring in past FIFA’s.

    * What I CAN’T judge yet, is if FIFA will STILL be fun in 3 months time. It feels fresh now, but maybe it’ll get repetitive in 3 months, whereas PES is always a slow burner.

Overall, I think I will like both games, just a shame they both have flaws in different areas, if you could combine them, the ultimate footy-game would be there!
I think a lot (if not almost ALL) will depend on the FUN-factor and lifespam of both games.
I think that although FIFA is ABSOLUTELY the better OVERALL package, there’s no denying that, it might just loose out against PES purely because the fun & rewarding shooting system in PES will prevail… But if PES doesn’t deliver in that, it has really lost the battle this year.

Only time will tell, I’m happy to own both games.

  120. bazkie_botsauto Says:

i didn’t buy 2009, it just didn’t cut it for me.

if i apply your question to my copy of pes6 though; it’s proven to be worth far more than it’s value in money. i must’ve played it for like 500 hours.

at least i’ve seen the PES ingame ‘money’ counter (the counter which gives you 50 ‘pes’ after each match) go back to 0 because it reached its maximum, with most matches set to 15 minutes length. and that with a lot of games played at friends, or with a second installment (because i play with a different option file in my ’single player’ master league then the master league i play mostly (with a friend, every weekend).

not to brag or anything, but darn, i must’ve played this game for more hours than i did any other game.

anyone else seen the PES counter go round? :p (just curious..)

Great post mate. I found it very helpful. Thanks.
I’m also going to buy FIFA for the first time in my life this year. Could you answer a quick question for me please? In a normal league season, are there cup games (FA cup, champions league) being played aswell?

  123. Boca Juniors The king Of the Kings Says:

I love pes is a really good game even when pes 08 came out i did play it ( it sucked)
but i did stick to the game…I bought Fifa 09 and it surprised me i really liked it not more than pes 09 but it wasnt a bad game at all..
And this year I will be getting both games they both are really good ….. Fifa has licenses has alot of leagues but it has no europa or champions league and pes is missing alot of licenses and leagues , but its gonna bring a great edit mode

  124. cheech & chong Says:

    Was pes worth the money?

i say if a game keeps me in for 1 friday night it saves me at least £100 , so in that sense its worth every penny.

i still play 09 now but only if mates visit as its only any good in multiplayer. i stopped playing against the com after about a week, it was far too easy.

  125. Colin Says:

I paid €60 for it last Christmas
my bro and I have spent countless hours on it since then (I bet him 38 times in a row once) so yes it was worth the money . Needs to step up this year, good signs from the demo so far (we demo)

  126. Italia Says:

absolutely agree, PES, no matter how disappointing the last couple years, has always been good value for the money spent.
If they get the online to work properly and add some sort of online tournaments (as it seems they have), then it will definitely be money well spent.
In regards to Fifa, it’s not for me. Thanks but no thanks.

WOW I downloaded the WE demo on the 360 just now thanks to all the tips above.. im now from Hong Kong lol ps their market place is rubbish.. they dont even have films yet.. prob no big demand yet..

I liked the Pro Evo demo even with the little bugs in places.. I felt the WE demo is definatly a bit more polished.. I didnt see a difference with speed but im yet to check properly..

Im getting the game no doubt and it would be fun to see all the modes and also to see how fun it will be to beat the crappy teams with your favourite club as well as face the top clubs..

im looking forward to it more and more each day..

now for the edit mode info..

  129. Asad Says:

    #122 PES or FIFA:

Wouldnt know 100%, didnt play a full season yet.

    I did check though:
Being Roma there were NO European games in the 1st season (this may be due to the fact u will have to EARN it in manager mode instead of picking a team that has qualified in real life), but my board expected me to reach ECC (minimum 4th spot), so I reckon if I finish top 4, Ill be playing ECC (European Champions Cup?), which would be similar to Champions League.

  132. Steve67 Says:

    @ 116 Duffman.
I am certainly not saying EA arnt guilty of the same ripping off of its fans and i would like to stress i hated FIFA before 09 as it was a terrible game. I just feel Konami have become very lazy since next-gen starting with PES 6 on xbox 360 which was inexcusable to release half a game with no edit mode and various other features gone from its PS2 game. What i said was EA have listened to their fans this year and got it right and fair play to them for such a turn round from such a poor game before 09. Konami had a great base to kick on from the PS2 version and have IMO lost their way and certainly havent ‘tried’ hard enough really have they? or we would have the game we have been crying out for by now. Even if they had put out the same game as PES 6 (PS2) with next gen graphics it would have been a good start but what did they do…gave us half a game for PES 6. Credit where credit is due and i think EA have worked harder to please the fans than Konami and thats all you can ask for really.

  133. Moshstar Says:

Firstly to answer the question posted is PES2009 value for money, for me yes. I play every friday night with a mate where we each pick 16 teams & have a konami cup competition played week on week all the way to the final on an average of 6 hrs a week for virtually every week of the year, plus the hours playing master league on me own so I would say thats probably clocking up 500+ hours ( I know I need a life!) I reckon. So for me I get my £40 worth.

Yes I was as disappointed as everyone else at expecting a massive improvement on the PS3 however was it any great suprise? As talented as Seabass & his team are I think they are not as talented as some of the other game producers out there and suprisingly for a Japenese company they have serious quality control issues they need to address, strange in a country dedicated to perfection & high levels of quality.

I have been reading all the comments and I can see where Myblueheven is coming from & do agree with some of his points ( I suspect the 5 goals in 5 mins were repetitive cutbacks?).

However I also take the view of the columnists on the site in not reviewing a demo as its clearly not the finished article. And yes baffles me why it was released if it was a build as someone said made in the time of Jesus. Clearly there needs to be serious questions asked of Konami management as to whether they know their marketplace & consumer as well as their ambition to really compete with the competition to attract new followers of the game.

However they do deserve some credit as do the lads at PESGaming for finally getting us heard & listened to, even if they may not get every little niggle correct. I’m hoping the new sliders, mastereague & control system is improved as is the “realism”, we’ll just have to wait & see.

    Thanks for reading.

  134. Steve67 Says:

    @ 129 Asad
If you read the posts where people are praising FIFA you will probably notice that in most cases they are also giving fair reasons as to why they think its a better game and most are explaining how they are PES fans first and formost. Im pretty sure most arnt fanboys. The more biased opinions are coming from PES fans like yourself, who are telling people where they should or shouldnt be posting. Why if you think PES is the better game are you at all bothered by FIFA comments? I think both games will be enjoyable this year but i think FIFA will be the more playable game as it was last year.

fifa admirers must be missing something if they

  140. Dopecoil Says:

    myblueheaven

The reason you are finding the through ball is not working properly in the we demo is because you have the cursor in the semi assisted setting which will also effect your short pass placement and make the demo more buggy and glitchy and feel fast.Reason this part of the game is still being tweaked ,i know it sucks because i also like to control this but now in pes2010 we have implemented a intelligent assisted cursor that you still have control of in this setting.Try it and you will find the niggles and irritations you have dissapear.

    Dave o

So happy you like me are making the transition to the analog stick and are seeing the benefits i was really worried about you which caused me and my team many headaches.

  141. Aaron Says:

I’m buying FIFA on friday. When pes comes out i’ll swap it for FIFA. Don’t want to play both games for a year.

  142. Italia Says:

just played some more WE2010 and I can say thge game gets better and better. I am having no problems with the through balls, nor with the passing, very little issues with the goalkeeper. The pace changes depending on the game and level you play, the same will be when you play different people with different styles and ability.
Shooting is amazing, and you have to create yourself space in order to take a good shot.
For whoever is having issues with passing, pace, etc, I suggest you try the different curson settings, and chose the one that works better for you (Unassisted, SemiAssisted, or Assisted). Chosing the correct one for your style of play will make a big difference in the whole game experience.
Still some bug here and there, but the game is going to be a lot of fun to play.

  143. MagicaRoma Says:

Has anyone from the UK got the PSM3 magazine that comes out today?
They will have the world exclusive PES2010 review & will to a head-to-head with FIFA.
I’d be very interested to hear there views, as I feel they are normally not very biased.

A month ago they still slightly favoured PES, wonder what there opinion is now they have reviewed the final codes!

Answers from anyone who has the mag would be much appreciated!

    ps: #122 PesOrFifa
Read yr question again: If you mean in a NORMAL season (so no manager mode), the answer is NO, you can play FA-cup, league cup, cocal cola division 2 etc, but NOT a league AND all the cups.

  144. mohawk Says:

There is a negative atmosphere about PES inside even our community…Releasing the game later than fifa isn’t helping either. Can’t KONAMI change that? Start a month earlier…And the demo,if i hear right, is not indicative of the final product…i surely hope that is the case…
The demo feels poor. It’s the old pes with better graphics and many of the same problems.
It’s still fun but when are we gonna see some evolution in the gameplay?

How people can come on here and say pes2010 is the same good is beyond me,frankly pes2010 based on my 6 days on the we demo is simply the best pes ever made period!.

Its so good i even cancelled my fifa10 pre-order because this year i feel we have finally in pes2010 a next gen product.

Have people not discovered the multitude of crossing angles we now have that we control and can add aftertouch to via the thumbstick.

The almost unlimited passing and through ball angles and gone are the strait lines and restrictive 8 directions of old.

This isnt just about graphics which are sublime its the gameplay and the freedom and the way your teammates react to the play.

Forget pes2009 that game was a chore and a throwback to the ps2 days pes2010 has evolved and people not seeing it are missing out.

Wait till the reviews come in people and put your fifa on ebay because its going to be 10,10,10,10 across the board this is a masterpeice and pes productions finest hour!!!!!!!!

Sounds promising, unless I’m being won over by EA’s amazing marketing team.

I might actually get FIFA as well again this year, even though I wasnt that impressed with the demo. But with my mortgage tracking at 0.29 above base, I’m running out of things to spend my money on :)

WENB are too close to Konami. I am not accusing them of being corrupt, but when you are friends with someone it makes you less likely to notice the negative and more likely to exaggerate the positive. If WENB started being ultra critical, it is likely that Konami would reduce their access. That’s why the reviews from football gaming websites were way to high for PES2008 — no one wanted to make Konami too upset, and there was little reason to cozy up to EA since their game was not all that great. But now…

    @164 Rob

Yeah he does don’t he! You’d think with Spurs fourth in the league and Abbey Clancy on his arm he’d be a bit happier.

Oh well maybe it’s because he scored a great hat-trick and still starts on the bench, and because Heskey seems to be Fabio’s choice even though he hasn’t proved himself as an England striker! All Heskey has proved when I’ve watched him for England is he falls over alot and gets constantly caught offside!

  166. Dave O Says:

I always get my value out of PES, even in 2007 and 2008. No doubt about it. Actually there has never been one year when I didn’t play the game to death. The series actually saves me money because I only really need maybe one other game per year. Without my PES habit I would be forking over for an extra three-five games a year to keep me entertained for sure.

This year I am really happy with the way the game looks, plays, feels, and most of all looking forward to the modes, which should bring even more longevity to the game.

    Can’t wait to try:

    ML – Seems vastly improved

BAL – There has been so little talk of this, but I am very curious to find out how it plays. I think PLayer cam with 360 movement could really improve the experience.

Online – I’m hopeful. And, being from Canada were soccer isn’t #1, most of my friends don;t play PES, so if online works I will finally be able to play against other human beings!

Can’t wait to experience Champions league and Europa in ML and BAL too.

All in all, withthe new tactics, sliders, and hopefully the extra difficulty level that’s in the Japanese demo, I think I will actually need more than a year to get tired of PES 2010, and unlike last year, likely won;t have anyt time to get into Fifa 10. From my personal perspective, the one thing EA have going for them is that their game comes out first. Otherwise I don;t even know if I would give it the time of day based on the demo, which was very disappointing IMO>

  167. Davelj2k9 Says:

Got Fifa 2010 on import and been playin it most of today..gota say first impressions are that it is exactly the same as last year..maybe i’ll need to play it more to get more out of it..but the games i’ve played are exactly the same, especially online.

Nothing from it is telling me i won’t buy pes 2010 on the 23rd and 4get about it..and unlike last year i probably won’t play it much again..

pes 2010 is more of a leap from pes 2009 than fifa 10 is from 09.. and i have it feeling it will be my football game of choice for the year.

    Nail in the coffin!!!

I was playing the FIFA demo with my mate the other day and it gives you the same feeling that Pes used to on the Ps2.

It’s addictive as hell, unpredictable and amazingly fluid.

This game is everything Pes used to be – if we could combine FIFA game-play with master-league etc then we would have the perfect game.

I don’t know how much better the manager’s mode will be this year, but to be quite honest if the online play is as good as last year then I won’t play it.

The best thing about FIFA this year is that the sweet spots are gone, which means that all those annoying gits who used to beat me by spending their time remembering these positions are screwed this season :)

If you don’t like FIFA 10 then you don’t like football, it’s as simple as that!

i tryed downloading it with a silver account and it said i had to upgrade to gold! i may not bt the most clever person in the world but im not stupid! lol

Cant wait for the final game but just thought of something i really want to see in the game in future..

I want to be able to have a setting for the wetness of the pitch! They wouldnt need to adjust game speed or anything, just the way the ball slides along the turf, players maybe slide further ect. i been thinking about it and i think people would find it a massive feature, inovative and also it would just encourage all different styles of play! You heard it here 1st!….

    any thoughts?

@184.Great post vid. I saw the same one. Is the black color net shown in the vid at the stadio olimpico standard for the stadium? Or is that from an option file? Thanks for anyone who has any answers

You only get 3 free 1 month gold memberships, then you have to pay for each new one. Otherwise, people could just keep creating 1 month memberships and never have to pay for online at all ;)

To get the one month free, though (if you haven’t used yours up already) you have to choose silver like Daymos said and it will offer you the 1 month if any are available for your console.

I have play pes08 and still playing pes09. I like pes for game play. I try fifa but can’t get use to it maybe because I did not start off playing it from the old day. I play majority of PES game and WEN game. I personally say that PES 06 and Winning Eleven 10 are my favourite in term of game play. I can only say that Konami need to try harder when it come to their number one franchise Pro Evo Soccer or Winning Eleven Soccer game. Listen and Learn are the keys to their success in future development especially PESgaming site which provide excellent feed backs.
ThankYou to all the guys at PESgaming for all the good reviews and comments. Thankyou Konami for trying to accommodate us fans.

fifa 10 got a 9…good for EA, good for the fifa fans, good for you.
pes 10..let me guess..probably an 8 of 7.5…good enough for konami, bad for pes fans, bad for me.
i love football, and i love pes and now pes 2010..period.
    please…do enjoy fifa 10.
    thankyou

FIFA 10 is just heaven sent!!!

As a result of being a previous lover of Pro Evo and it’s unique control setup on the dualshock pads for the PS2/PS3, I’ve now customised FIFA 10’s control setup the same way and also adjusted the camera angle slightly to match Pro Evo’s “Wide” view.

I’d advise you all to give this a try and let us know what you think! I have to say this is the best football experience to date!!!

I’ve clocked 710 hours on Pes 2009 lol and I’m still going. I think good value doesn’t even describe it as all my other games cost more than Pes and all of them combined can’t even clock 1/2 as much. Pes 2010 is definitely gonna steal lots of my hours hehe.
