The patch for Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on the PS3 is finally. It should begin downloading immediatley upon booting up your game.
Some opinions on the patch taken from our forum…

Just turn on your PS3 (connected to Internet) and start PES 2008, then it will download the patch by it self.
you have to be signed on to your psn account for it to work

Can someone check if they added kit selection to Master League? Just maybe they did. Can’t be too hard since it seems that they forgot it.

Don’t get too excited about this patch… I’ve already downloaded it and while the slowdown has decreased it’s still there, not to mention that online still as laggy as it has always been.
The improvement is barely noticeable.
BTW, has anyone noticed that players shadows don’t have arms?
Could anyone find that the pitch is more realistic after installed the patch? Before you installed the patch, the pitch is plain except in the replay (Very obvious in free kick mode). I have both Japanese and European Verion of WE2008 (PES2008), the problem existed in both version.

For me the pitch looks worse. Looks like they reduced the textures on the pitch to get the frame rate up.

Of all the things they could improve [online play especially] I doubt untucked shirts and crap like that in edit mode were high on the list…

I really dun see any difference in this patch…. hope konami will come out with another better patch…. but to be frank i think the offline game is still very good and there is just some slight lags
Hey guys……IT WORKS IT WORKS….no joke…..replays have improved about 95%..they are extremely enjoyable to watch now!!!!!…..framerate issue has gone……stadium pitches and player faces have improved….and also you can now see those flares which supporters use….PES2008 the bessstt

just played a online game and i let in 4 goals and not once was the ball on screen, just ended up in the back of net form the half way line and then suddenly its fuckin in my area and in the back of the net!!

There’s still a lot of improvements to be made which should have been included with the game. Disappointed but still an enjoyable game to play.
Don’t think it’s available in the UK yet? I’ve tried today to get the patch but nothing has appeared on loading of game whilst signed into ps3 network. Has anyone else got this problem in the UK?

WOW this patch sucks! I just player s 15 min game between man u and chelsea and my players are skating around faster than before and even the ball moves faster…KONAMI WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!…Well thank God for Call of Duty

Those who say the patch is great have you installed PES on your hard drive?
Dram, I’ve tried it with both PES installed and not installed and no obvious differences either way but there definitely is some sort of improvement from the patch. I agree with ‘24′ though when you say the pitches look worse now. The sharp greeny colour has been lost and they look a bit grainier. Maybe to reflect the fact we’re in winter now!! LOL.
Still think they need a second patch though that unlocks the 8 kit rule in editing. Maybe its konami’s plan to release this and more boots etc as ‘add ons’ that we have to pay for on the playstation store? I hope not!
Anyone tried running the patch with the new option file that came out? Heard the option files are meant to cause slowdown for some reason.

Ive done the patch and ive got the latest option file from WENB, it makes no diff with ot without the file loaded, the game is still a major dissapointment, tried to get a gasme online last night, managed 1 game, it was a bit better but still jerky, at one stage, my opponent ran the ball out in to touch, next minute, hes having a shot at my goal!!!…this is total bollocks.

I downloaded it last night and yes there is an improvement on the framerate front offline but does anyone else think the game has been speeded up with this patch? seemed alot faster to me! (Though i did use WNEB new OF last night for the first time too)
Please Konami breakdown what the patch does and improves on, then we can see the results rather than guess like half the people on this board are doing.
It actually felt slower to me offline, especially international matches

I’ll have to try Man U V Chelsea in a min to see if mine does the same, although I always found clubs matches to play much quicker than international matches anyway - just like in real life I guess.
that could be the case then, thinking back its been a while since i played club teams as trying to unlock all the bonus national teams.
Downloaded patch, i see only one improvement and that is with the replay. it’s more fluently, for the rest i had no problems offline. I am playing it on ps3 on a Sony Bravia HD ready tv with the HD-cable from ps3 with golden connectors. The online play is still lagging but it depends on who you’re playing against.

As it is out on Xbox 360 as well, I just will say it is better though if you play with English Language guys it is really satisfying but if you will chose Italian you will get what you have picked, ofkorz still some skaters and balls glitches but lot less, hope next patch will bring it back to quality of Pes 6 at the end of season. As the pace of the pes 2008 is better than pes 6 which was quite a CHESS game :P so after playing about 3 games I have to say positive but still some work to do. Konami did shite this year but it is still georgusly better gameplay than fifa, so if they gona fix it till the end I think it will be great satisfying action as it was last years. Call of Duty 4 is genuinly brilliant anyway and I hope it will be Game of the Year as they should get Oscar as well :D Multi is just perfect, If only I wouldn’t have to work I would attach myself to the pad for whole winter. About april I will buy PS3 anyway as I can see thay starting to make better efforts on ps3 but I will decide after seeing GTA 4 on PS3, they claiming there will be multi of 16 players, will see.
Greetings to all PES fans not just FanBoys which are swearing on konami all the time, try to build perfect game yourself on 4 different platforms within a year. They improved gameplay enough as for 1 year. Cu ONLINE guys.
little improvemwnt, still while fast
i tried it at lunchtime today, i’m happier…
the replays are definately better, and the gameplay seemed much smoother, i really noticed it at corners/packed areas, but this is offline playing with all stadium effects on. I have only played one game mind you, and there was still the odd judder, but nothing like yesterday, i can finally get into this years game.
i have a 32″ tosh LCD with HDMI cable, i noticed i think, that the game auto rezes to a lower setting, i dont think its 720p. Might just be my imagination and with a footy game I am not too bothered, its more about the game play - but maybe that is something they have done to reduce the lag?
i played Arsenal V Spurs in an Exhibition and Arsenal won 3-1 so its true to life too…
if there was one good thing in pes2008 , it was the pace. now they made it too fast. YES IT IS. graphics r worste. good thing is u can delete this “patch”. and hope they bring out an online patch. is there any way of picking top player when playin online?

I was looking forward to PES2008 so much, even got a PS3 so that i can enjoy the game to the max! Its the biggest disappointment ever!!

to be honest i dont mind if its abit quicker (then again it aint that quick and bad- just got to get used to it!)as long as that stupid line and fuzz went - which it has! the online game is ok, just anoying when your attacking and then the ball is in the other teams box all of a sudden - but that happens rare now!

Downloaded the 360 patch last night, replays are superb now, but after playing on xbl I still have the same shite lag, (both have 3 bars connection) I only usually play online so its shite! Maybe fifa is worth a try???
I really hope when I get home this patch works, because all I am playing right now is Call OF Duty and NBA 2K8, I have been an ISS fan since SNES, And I really don’t want to have to convert to the F word. I have a samsung HD TV and a HD Cable so this Sh*t better work!
Brilliant Patch. Lag is all gone online during gameplay, replays are still lacking smoothness but it is now playable. I have had a few bad games online with lag but I think that was down to my opponents connection as the majority have been perfect. Though improvements can still be made, they seem to have(half) fixed a problem that should never have existed in the first place.

what pisses me off is when you play somone who chooses bad weather, as this causes the lag to be worse!!!!!!!!!

ok since the patch has arrived the connection is slow , you neva get to see 3 bars . offline is a major improvement thank god no complaints , but online major big issue’s lagg is still there and it just wont go away. konami are big time flops might be going to fifa next!
yes off line good! but the online is better depends on the connection tho! when its oonly 1 bar its bad! but if they keep updating the patch, then it should be a good game in a few months - just have to be patient, and im the worst for being that!

What makes Pro Evo less realistic this year when playing Master League is a real shame:
1. There are hardly any injuries to players anymore and when players go off injured they always come back on uninjured.
2. The other scorelines are just so unrealistic. The average score of a football game according to Konami is 1-0. Its pathetic. Teams like Man U, Chelsea etc often score 3,4,5 goals in a game. I’m playing Middlesbrough in the Master League and after 15 games I’ve scored 35 goals. The next highest scoring team is Newcastle with 12 goals scored. How unrealistic is that!!!!
3. The computer opposition very rarely foul with sliding challenges or get booked for harsh challenges, even on top player settings. This is very unrealistic again.

mate, switch on the console, with out game in it.( you need to adjust settng so that when game goes in , it does not load automatically)once console on, then put game in, then it will just come up on screen about the patch - just update game. also update your machine to version to 2.05
Does anybody notice that u dont have to be signed into the PSN network for you to play online? Its like they using the PS2’s way on connecting. Maybe thats the problem with the shitty lag

yes fair point toony.. you just play from the game. maybe thats the prob - however i have had some great games with people without the lag- try international matches they seem better
OK for me this patch made offline smoother but slightly faster. Replays are much better but not perfect and the “in the box” lag has not gone but is better. ONLINE is much better but not perfect. Now the players dont jitter about but the ball does odd things sometimes.
I played a game online and I had very slight lag about 3-4 times in the whole match which is fine by me. I only have a shitty 2mb virgin media connection aswell.
So in all its alot better but still not quite right.
Oh and I forgot, Seabass is still a big hairy ballbag.

Always been a pro evo fan but this a poor manifestation of a once great game. Fifa is far more playable, visually pleasing and enjoyable. Got mine at half price I reckon its still £24.99 wasted. Come on Konami you out of then premiership and down in legue two on this performance.
Whats all the moaning for? If you dont like it, dont play it. The patch sorted it for me, slowdown in gameplay has completely gone, replays are still a bit stuttery however..

can someone please help. im having trouble getting this patch. my ps3 is connected to the internet and when i load in pes it just starts as normal. it doesnt start downloading the patch. plus now i cant play online at all. it says my client version is different. Any help is extremely welcome.
turn on pes and you should get a ps3 system note saying its found a patch for this game…u press ok and it downloads like a regular ps3 system update….NOT hard ppl
neway im happy with the patch…fair enough its not updated sum features that have been complained about i.e kit selection pes shop.
but it has dealt with some issues and in my opinion the important things and the things that reallllly annoyed me….online lag is limited (i have highspeed broadband which probs helps) and offline gamespeed has improved i can play with real madrid at the bernabau on the wide camera angle without getting pissed off. :)
WHAT THE HELL HAVE THEY DONE?????? nothing i can see is any differnet infact graphic sharpness seems reduced and slow down is now in more stadiums when using the wide camera angle. fucking useless

more or less than a mounth ago we all started talking about the terrible Pes08 online performance and the not fully correcting patch released.
After weeks of non-playing pes08 I decided to give it a try to taste the shit again and self push myself to Fifa.
Then I noticed a sad true:
loggin in with Pes08 doesnt show the “work in progress online fixes” koanmi advise anymore.
is it dead?
should I buy Fifa? the poor sellong performance are pushing konami to abandon Pes at all?

I have had FIFA 08 since it was released and decided to buy PES because Fifa had its frustrating faults, mainly unrealistic online play…. (11 shots against one rubbish gamer once, he had one shot all game and beat me 1-0!!). Oh my god, the online play for PES is unreal… I cant belive how bad it is, Fifa’s online lag is non existant. Smooth as a baby’s. Im sorry but I bought a PS3 for state of the art technology. I’ll give it a month and if Konami dont sort it out its Fifa all the way untill my thumbs drop off…..

Okay, I have got the game to run a lot better now… I uninstalled it (and all saved data)… put the disc in (whilst connected to the PSN)- and downloaded the 1.20 update. I have left the camera on default- and it plays a lot smoother now. Not 100% perfect, but a hell of a lot better now.
I only tested a few grounds (stadia) though.
I think they may have worked on the frame rate issue after all…
Im not impressed. Name another game from 2007 on a state of the art console that has such bad problems with online lag as PES08…… no I cant either and dont think i’m messing about with the game set up to suit Konami, i bought it, ill set it up how I want… my lifes too short. Its on ebay tonight if anyone wants it. Back to Fifa 08, then 09,10,11,12………
The problem with FIFA is that the game play is somewhat ’stodgy’- you don’t get the same freedom of movement. Yeah, the PES2008 graphics are pretty ropey,
and the game speed is a little too fast for my liking, but it is still more of an exciting game to play than FIFA.
I think PES peaked with PES 5!

yes, Fifa is slower but at least when you blink you have an idea where the ball is going to be……

Hey , Does anyone know why you can only add 8 real kits when installing an unofficial update for premier league clubs ? This sucks at least on the old Pro games on ps2 there would be a full update so all teams were correctly kitted! Every year i spend my money on PES and every year Konomi just dont get it completely right. If theres some computer buff out there and can hook me up with all premiership club kits I would be very grateful !

I just finished playing a ranked game online…i score 3 goals as soon as the game starts and the game starts jumping all over the place. I lose 8-3!!! someone please explain this to me. KONAMI please do not play your fans and loal customers like a soccer game. Be fair and please fix this already……..
