10 Predictions for PES 2009

To break away from the tradition of posting false news stories on April 1st (or April Fool’s day) I have decided to instead post 10 predictions for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. I’ve been covering Pro Evolution Soccer online for the past 6 years now and Konami can be pretty predictable - so here are my best educated guesses for what we are likely to see.

  • PES 2009 WILL BE RELEASED IN OCTOBER
Forget all the rumours you may have heard about there being no Pro Evolution Soccer until next year, PES 2009 will be released October 2008.
  • PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS WILL NOT BE EDITABLE
I think this is something that has been coming for a while. For the past few years the Premier League has been getting on Konami’s back more and more about the Option Files that end up floating around the web and, more importantly, eBay. I dare say EA are not too happy about it either given there ‘exclusive’ deal. So I think it’s quite likely that PES 2009 the kits, at least, will be locked down for the Premier League teams.
  • THERE WILL BE ONLY TWO LICENSED PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS
At most! Konami have to buy these licenses individually from the clubs, and I believe they are allowed a maximum of 2… until the ‘exclusive’ deal EA has with the Premier League expires in 2010 when the rights will be up for grabs again. Don’t be surprised if the licensed teams are Everton and Aston Villa.
  • PENDULUM WILL PERFORM THE INTRO MUSIC
PES 2008’s choice of music was questionable to say the least. I don’t have a problem with choosing the Kaiser Chiefs, but the song just didn’t work. Something with a bit more kick to it will be introduced for PES 2009. Pendulum, best known for their hits ‘Granite‘ and ‘Slam‘, have already had their music appear in Motorstorm on the PS3 and Dance Dance Revolution Universe on XBox 360.
  • ONLINE MODES WILL BE IMPROVED
This goes without saying. Konami know that unless online is ten-times better than it was for PES 2008 that they are in BIG trouble. I expect there will be online leagues, or at least knock-out cup contests, and the lobby system will be modified to be similar to that of PES6.
  • UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF SAVED REPLAYS
No idea why you can’t do this alread.
  • MASTER LEAGUE TO FEATURE MORE INTERACTION
They took a step in the right direction with PES 2008 by introducing things like ‘Player speaks about recent form’, but this can, and needs, to be taken a lot further. Around 5 years ago Konami made a joint announcement with SI Games that PES and CM would be joining forces - what the hell happened to that? I don’t see any Football Manager features currently in PES, do you? But for PES 2009 I forsee the ability to interact with players such as praising them for recent performances, resulting in their moral going up. Too much of this though and other players will become disheartend. Newspaper reports linking you to certain players will require a response from you - this will make negotiations with the player in question easier, or harder, depending on how you handle the report.
  • YOU WILL BE ABLE TO STAND CLOSER FOR THROW-INS
Why can’t you go within 10 yards of a person taking a throw-in at the moment? I think Konami will finally see sense in the new game and allow players to go as close as they like (well, closer than 10 yards anyway!).
  • REFEREE’S WILL BE MORE INTELLIGENT
I think one of the most disapointing aspects of the PES 2008 gameplay was the fact the referees often spoilt the game. You would see red for a perfectly good tackle, while a last man lunge would be punishable with only yellow. Advantages will be re-introduced properly. They seemed far less realistic in PES 2008 than they did in PES6. Unless I’ve somehow missed it, referee’s won’t go back and book a player after allowing play to continue following a rough challenge. This will be addressed for PES 2009.
  • FERNANDO TORRES TO BE ON THE COVER
Don’t think I need to elaborate on this one.

So there you have it, PESGaming’s 10 predictions for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. Discuss.

  1. Anonymous Says:

Here’s another prediction - No La Liga license

  2. pesFannnn Says:

Great predictions… However i will not feel excited enough if Konami were to really just produce the above predictions… A lot more work has to be done… I think i do not need to elaborate this anymore… The lag has caused lots of discomfort in our gaming experience as compared to previous versions’… I still think Konami shld look at pes6 and improve upon it (instead of taking pes2008 as the gauge).

  3. yous Says:

    Other predictions..

    - Handballs included
    - Realistic injuries included
    - Fabregas to be on the cover

  4. SuperDann Says:

    Fernando Torres is a god.

  5. Peter Willis Says:

pesFannnn I totally agree with you, there needs to be LOTS more than what I mentioned added to the game - but knowing how Konami work I just can’t see everything we want happening. I think what I’ve mentioned are some of the only realistic things we can expect for PES 2009.

  6. goalgerd Says:

if they lock prem editing, alot of people(including myself) will find it harder to buy it over say fifa2009

    as for predictions here goes

1.kaka,messi and gerrard on cover(all adidas)

2.more international teams(all world tour teams playable bolivia bosnia etc)

  7. goalgerd Says:

another thing,it still wont be a good as pes6

  8. Robbye Ron Says:

THE BEST GAME WOULD BE, IF We could be able to edit all the teams, and included the OTHER TEAMS C on the Master League.

  9. Pacman Says:

Referees in real life WILL go back and book a player after allowing play on. If a challenge is awful (say, a two footed, completely mistimed last-man flying tackle), but the recipient team manages to hold on to the ball and is in a position to potentially produce a goal, then the ref should allow the game to continue, and then book or send off the fouling player.

  10. ryan w Says:

does anybody know if pro evo 2009 will come out on wii in october, or march like pro evo 2008??

  11. Peter Willis Says:

    @ Pacman

I don’t understand what you are telling us? I already know that in real life this happens… in PES 2008 it doesn’t.

    @ Ryan w

The game is always released in October in Europe and other PAL regions. North American release is always in the new year. I don’t know how the market works in the States so I can’t predict when it will be released there.

  12. Pacman Says:

@Peter: You know what, I misunderstood the whole thing. I haven’t played PES 2008 in a while, so I didn’t remember it didn’t happen in the game. That’s why I thought that it did happen and that had you said it shouldn’t.

  13. Franny Says:

Fernando should be a lot better on the next 1 hes shite on this game, another prediction-Fifa will be better again-i was surprised how gd that was this year i normally hate it but the online is so gd all the need is faster gameplay and better passing which has been improved on euro 2008,pes could also make the managers look lifelike just like euro 2008

  14. Mac Says:

The ability to select kits in Master League SHOULD be no.1 priority, especially when being Newcastle and playing Reading away, and they both have dark kits.

Impossible to play the game like that.

  15. Mac Says:

Oh… and not forgetting, a better array of Stadiums. What happened to SJP, OT etc.?

  16. PESFREAK Says:

I have played PES from day one …and i was wery dissapointed with 2008 …they have to do a LOOOOOT better job for a 2009 or i am off to FIFA… have played EURO 2008 demo and its good stuff …good graphics …licences… the gameplay is a lot better than before …you can even change button configuration so its moore like PES …! No preorders for me for PES 2009… waiting 3 - 4 good rewiews before purchasing one! PLEASE KONAMI DONT LET ME GO TO FIFA ….THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE!!!

  17. goalgerd Says:

il buy euro2008 now that you can configure the buttons, that always pissed me off and was the main reason i never liked fifa

  18. Frank Says:

scum bags buy fifa or euro2008, PES 2008 might not be what we expected but its still the dogs bollocks.

  19. anita goffradump Says:

more things in the master league like:
a proper cup where all teams from all leagues including div 2 take part. would give you a chance to play a few of the shit teams that arent in your league and never make the champions league.

be able to swap teams - at the start of a season youshould be given an objective like - get european football etc if by halfway through the season you arent achieving this then you should be sacked and you would have to wait for another job. or if after 4 or 5 seasons its getting too easy now you’ve got all the good players playin for you you should be able to take over other clubs who are aybe underachieving

real money should be introduced instead of these stupid points

things to change in actual gameplay

some new moves would be good

like someone said earlier handball. non of this shit where i try to head a cross in n it hits the players arm and its a freekick thats jus annoying but maybe pressig r2 when standing on the post after a corner or something.

and bring back the staiums! not quite the same playing my home games at the nou camp with liverpool

  20. assache Says:

I simply want to be able to create my own football experience…… Free roaming footy!

Edit what you want and by that I mean everything. The fact that FIFA is completely licensed up is it’s biggest floor, it has no soul because someone else created it for you.

No licenses and full editing. The gameplay does need tweaks, but, overall PES is a smooth motherfucker!

  21. JPessoaJorge Says:

Free kicks with two or more players standing to score, instead of just one and other in a body position where shooting is too dificult.

  22. Steven Gerard(liverpool) Says:

for PES 2009 to be fifa 09 whic might be impossible from ur predictions.
    ——————————————————–
1.if no editing of premier league, all teams from premier league must be license , spend time and money on ur creations.
2.we must be able to edit our master league teams for agility and fun of master league
3.more skills must be on PES 2009, please go and check fifa 08 and see for yourself.
4.make teams for master league that must be editable are all means.
5.improve the gameplay (PES 2008) is very poor because of the stiveness of players, lack of fatique, and a indicator must be shown for team’s morale in each match(it must not be constant.
6.we must be able to play online in our master league mode like PES 2009.
7.a must of my colleagues in the team play fifa for IQ.Make PES 2009 a footballer game this year, not FIFA AGAIN(because only me and pennant plays PES on the team).

more suugestion will reach your board.Make a difference and for once in ur company life be better than Fifa.Innovate wisely for the future. because these predications have corrupted minds of PES fans.

    STEVEN GERARD
REPLY ME BACK ALL FANS WE MUST
    MAKE A DIFFERNCE.

  23. Steve From Stoke Says:

Anita Goffradump, you’re comments on how the Master League could be improved are spot on. Changing clubs and objectives would make an already brilliant Master League perfect.

  24. Anonymous Says:

what a sad bastard so called steven gerard, you have two r’s and should be spelt gerrard…………….dip prick

  25. assache Says:

    @Steven Gerard(liverpool)

What does any of your post mean? I have read it several times now and……… No….. Nothing!

Are you suicidal? Do you need an Ambulance? log onto WWW.iamoffmyrocker.co.uk They may be able to help!

  26. cadburyho Says:

I’m extremely worried about the uneditable kits. Is there such a thing as able to lock it?

Without downloadable kits, I doubt whether I will buy the game. I really hated the fake jerseys. So damn awful.I presume they will use the same ugly logos too. What a damper. Hope it is not true.

  27. mn9ajas Says:

    Hey assache

    “April 8th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
    @Steven Gerard(liverpool)

What does any of your post mean? I have read it several times now and……… No….. Nothing!”

Its hard for a footballer to spell and be coherent!

  28. Peter Willis Says:

@ cadburyho. They are purely my own PREDICTIONS… not based on any solid facts.

  29. assache Says:

I understand that walking whilst chewing gum can be an issue for some!

  30. i.Am.Me Says:

Well, to expand the ML suggestion, I wrote it (here: http://forums.pesfan.com/showthread.php?t=153329) and it was officially sent to Konami, but the developers didn’t seem to care about it. :\

  31. Amintas Says:

Please Konami!!!! More international times licensed!!! (ex: México,Germany and Camerun!!).

  32. dave Says:

why dont you assign all the teams on the game with their appropriate badges, but have a choice of logo and sponsor.
so, barcelona could have their badge but have adidas as their logo and be sponsored by carlsberg or samsung. therefore it would make the game more realistic.

  33. gee Says:

I think Konami should add Manager job offers from other clubs. So for example if you are say Man City in the masters league and you guide them to Europe or win a cup bigger clubs like Arsenal will offer you the chance to transfer to them and take over as manager.

Also some kind of international masters league where you would be an international manager and have to guide your chosen country through qualifiers and cup competions (World cup etc…)

Maybe these could both be added to pes 2009

    wishful thinking

  34. mn9ajas Says:

I think if you play as Man City at the minute there needs to be a feature of Chairman pulling the rug from under your feet if you lose a few matches!!

  35. pes 2009 Says:

    a

  36. pes 2009 Says:

    pes 2009
    english teams in original kits
nike boots and adidas kits on ps3
    mode c ronaldo free kick
    two teams from argentina
    two tems from brazil
    galaxy la team
and keep brazil and portugal in original
    kits
    bayern munique stadium
    maracana
    bon bo nera to.
and english teams have to be more powerfull
    then spanish and italians
    that is it!

  37. pes 2009 Says:

    shit.

  38. Mr.A Says:

    What PES Needs
1.More Interaction in master league, ability to talk to the press, from a few preset sentences, ability to praise players.
2.Pitch Deformation (Even a little bit of this would be good)
3.Real Currency in master league for different countries e.g UK has £ Europe the euro america has the dollar.
    4. Pixel Editing (It’s bloody hard to take near perfect pictures of kits, e.g colours being slightly wrong)
5.Of course more licenses even if they got a not so good league, Portuguese,Russian,SPL maybe. Or if they had the top 4 premier league teams licensed or even 3 would be something.
    6.Man Utd and Liverpool licensed
7.Different types of injury that keep out players for shorter, longer. e.g broken leg 6 months, hamstring a month.
    8.Better Fatigue.
9.Stop making players like adriano unstoppable, they can just run through opposition defence so easily. And also have players play with a sense of urgency say if they are one-nil down or something with 5 minutes go, extra pace, looser passing. or make a team winning 1-0 with 5 minutes to go have a better tackling stat, or go in for lunges more often.
10.Let players turn faster and control the ball better without letting it roll like 10m after they touch it.

  39. Mr.A Says:

Oh yeah and we eant the bundesliga back licensed or non-licensed

  40. Mr.A Says:

English teams more physical, s.american and spanish teams without a lot a flair, italian teams with strudy defences, diving strikers. Have all the leagues with a different style of play like real life. And i wonder if konami could buy like the license for the uefa cup or world cup or somin and use all the official logos.hmmm

  41. Mr.A Says:

And finally weather conditions, windy days affect players passing stat, snow, ice make the game alot quicker, muddy pitches slow down the pace of the game.

  42. Mr.A Says:

    and fog reduces passing accuracy
