The ‘English’ license confusion for PES 2008

Just thought I’d try to clear something up which has been confusing a lot of you over at the forum. You have probably read at various sites about the licenses for the English Premier League and who is or is not licensed in Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.
At the time of writing, the strongest evidence points towards Newcastle United definitely being licensed. This is shown in the early beta of the game (badge visible on team selection screen), in addition to the fact that Michael Owen is seen in marketing materials for the game sporting the full kit with sponsors on it. The other team licensed would appear to be Tottenham Hotspur. Some people have questioned this given that no mention of White Hart Lane has been made as being one of the stadiums in the game. The beta does show Tottenham’s official badge, however, and as far as we are concerned at PESGaming, that pretty much makes it certain they will be included. Why would Konami put the badge in if they were just going to remove it? Furthermore, they’d be breaking all sorts of rules making even the beta with them licensed if they didn’t hold the correct approval.
It gets a little more complex, however. Rumours have it that Konami could be allowed up to 3 licenses for the game, and the final game may well include a further team. Who the 3rd team would be remains unknown, and we FIRMLY believe that there will only be 2 teams regardless of what you read elsewhere.
when are liverpool going to get naming rights instead of teams like newcastle and tottenham are big clubs but liverpool have fans all around the world
The licenses for Newcastle and Spurs were not worth whatever hassle it took for Konami to obtain them. Arsenal and United I can understand. Arsenal and Chelsea I’ll forgive. But Newcastle and Tottenham? Who gives a **** about these mediocre clubs? I would prefer a completely unlicensed Premier League rather than have two seemingly random (****) clubs given their real names, badges and kits. Give me ‘North London White’ and ‘Tyneside’ over their real-life counterparts any day. Mind you, if the (rumoured) third licensed team is Manchester United, I’ll be made up.
Perhaps the third licensed team will be the mighty Wigan.
c’mon the 3rd licensed team should be Chelsea coz there the best if not Liverpool coz it sucks to c great top flight players from both teams in crapy customized or blank uniforms
I’d say the 3rd would probably be Manchester United, with C. Ronaldo being on the cover this year.
I would say Either Arsenal (licensed in 5+6)or Man United (C.Ronaldo as cover star). But surely Konami should be able to sort out better licensing, back when PES 4 came out they said the could get the teams licences by paying each team individually.
Like I said guys in my post, I am almost certain there will not be a 3rd side licensed. Konami obviously had trouble getting any of the top 4 sides licensed, so got the next biggest 2 in Newcastle and Tottenham.
I have a great way to get over the license issue. Why not create the teams and just change the colour of the kits so they look about 30% right and call them stuff like NORTH LONDON WHITES and stuff.

Seriously though… Manchester United/Chelsea/Arsenal should always be the first priority for the teams licensed and Konami will know this. I do kinda like the idea of it being different teams every year though if they can’t always license the top 2 or 3.
Haha, Dely Run! Stop talking absolute nonsense, if Man United aren’t included then every other team that is included is ****? I’m glad none of the ‘big four’ haven’t yet been announced this year, or probably included, because they’ve had their run in previous PES games. Or probably where demanding too much (that’s why money grabbing Chelsea got dropped from PES6). Stop whining.

Please tell me you all dnt play your pro’s without editing all the teams! You can either do it yourself or get someone to download the badges, as PS3 is connected to the internet so it doesnt matter who’s licenced you can get them all looking 100% if you put the effort in. Ive Done it every year makes the hole gaming expeirence 10x better.

I’m pretty sure that there will only be 2 licensed teams from the Prem, cause EA hold a license until 2010 that enables them to use the Prem in full, while Konami can only have 2.
Not true, Konami can have as many as they want, but they have to apply to the clubs individually. And if they clubs themselves also have prior agreements with companies, then Konami are screwed. Hence why this year they have Newcastle and Tottenham.
yeah, other compitions just got 1 lincense for the whole league.
But, I dont understand why someone who makes the pick in selling (and the price) will even be so harsh. Dont they know that at least several players from each club are playing PES, dont you think those “star” players would love to see their own face and real name, rather then some fake name playing in a city team.
But, at Lipsia convention we’ll see all the team “licensed” that we can have on the game when it will be realesed??? I mean, if now there are licensed tottenham and newcastle, we’ll see only these 2 teams on the final game or perhaps there will be one more team licensed???
