Scans have landed at WENB courtesy of Rob Taylor which give us some further info on Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. In the mag there is a massive TEN page spread dedicated to the new game which covers just about everything. We highly recommend you download the .RAR file (17mb) which has hi-resolution copies of each page for you to read in full.
But for you lazy so’n’so’s, here is a brief run-down of what they say:
- Extended amount of stats (most hat-tricks, longest shot etc.)
- Longer replays
- 59 tracks for you to pick and choose to have playing on any menu
- Players seen to bend down and pull socks up during breaks in play
- Red icon appears over player when tired
- Referees will show cards in-game rather than cut scenes
- Players can be heard shouting for you to pass
- 30 types of boots
- Upload your photo and use it to create your likeness in game
- You can scan badges to use as logo’s or sponsors
- Audioless interaction between players and the media in Master League
- Choose your teams chants in the ML option menu
- Better players can shoot more accurately and consistently
- Defenders throw themselves at the ball to perform a block tackle
- 74 types of goal celebration
A lot of this information is rather refreshing after the poor gameplay videos of Leipzig. I guess it’s hard to judge a game before you play it, but I still stand by my points made the other day regards FIFA catching up. Many of you criticised me for saying PES 2008 looks rubbish, but that was not what I was saying at all. If you took the time to read the article carefully, you would see that it’s not that I think PES 2008 will suck, nor that FIFA 08 will be better. I was merely pointing out that FIFA is no longer the game that it was 5 years ago when many of you converted to PES. It’s improving vastly year upon year, where as Konami merely adds the odd new feature here and there. And, whether you like this statement or not, it’s a fact that Konami need work hard on the next-gen graphics for PES 2009 because sooner rather than later FIFA’s gameplay will be good enough to be worth playing.

Do you remember a few early years that Seabass said that the new generation of winning eleven will be like de intro videos that we used to saw… like the pes 4 intro video, so well.. where are that graphics????
I’m totally with you man..
see u…
The thing is EA are the biggest publisher and developer on the planet (we all know that) alot of EA next-gen titles - look next-gen. Take FIFA 07 for example it was a game developed from scratch and you could see that and feel that in the game play(which was still as fustrating as FIFA’s before it) I think PES and FIFA will be too close to call this year… maybe PES will edge it throught there fantastic game play engine, but FIFA is not letting up and it will be a great battle.
Just on another note - I find one of Konami’s big let downs is the fact that instead of adding content (More licenced league’s more international team) they seem to take teams out and replace them with others… not really adding to the content at all. I personally don’t mind the licences not being in the game, because like the rest of you I love sitting the creating the kits and badges. I just wish they would add more content and more depth to the game.
So I guess what I’m saying is if Konami what to really take PES to the next level which they seem to be struggling at, we need next-gen visuals, as well as more content - FIFA have league upon league and they keep adding and adding…. please keep up Konami, for your fans sake.
Thanks for reading.
some very intresting info here, thats a little encouraging considering what you said previously, dont damn pes that much, fifa will never have that realistic game play that pes has, fifas gameplay is so artificial with a set of moves which ull never see ronaldino do on the pitch,so come on,say alot more good things about PRO
PES is THE football game. Gameplay wise FIFA is still quite a long way behind, simply because when you play FIFA you feel like you are playing a football GAME, but when you play PES you feel like you are playing FOOTBALL!
But most of you are right about the content side, the lack of licences gets my goat abit and so far as content (as one of the previous posters said) FIFA is streets ahead. I think the ultimate football game would be the game play of PES coupled with the sheen and content of FIFA. Oh we can dream…………
just combined fifa and evo for fuck sake and then we will all be happy
little details go a long way. some good additions for console owners, i.e nike balls and new boots. but i agree fifa is cathing pro evo, don’t get me wrong pro evo is better in terms of gameplay, no question, and that is what counts and is the reason i love the game. but why can’t konami learn from fifa and make additions such as
better crowd sound, especially when a goal is scored and chanting
a few made up stadiums. smaller stadiums on fifa used for english teams or spot on and make the matchs look believable. when u play two english teams you really belive its 3.00 saturday afternoon. or night games seem like monday night football.
i know the commentary is changing, but i can’t see it been as good is fifa who have martin tyler this year.
bottom line is when u play barcelona vs arsenal on fifa it feels like a champions league game due to the visuals and audio. but play the same game in pro evo and it just seems like any other match. premeirship needs to be added.
I tried FIFA 07
After reading your comments, I actually went back and tried FIFA 07. I dumped FIFA and switched to PES in 2001 because of the poor gameplay (especially defense) in FIFA. I must say FIFA 07 is quite a fun experience so far. The manager mode is particularly interesting, in some ways it gives players a much richer experience than PES. For example, the manager must meet multiple goals in order to succeed, not just making money and winning games. The gameplay also improves a lot, although its defense play is still not very well designed. Man, I love the correct names, commentary names, teams, kits, stadiums and so on.
Here is my conclusion: PES is still a better football game, but FIFA is no longer unacceptable. It can be another game to buy and play when you are tired of PES.
couldn’t agree more wxiao. fifa has come a long way since 2001, and if this progression continues it may be the othetr way round when buying these games
does fifa still have all the english league down to league 2 coz if it does i will get both games as i want to play as morecabe
FIFA 07’s manaager mode is ***ing retarded! I actually bought it a long time after I got PES 6, started a new game with Valencia. During my preseason friendlies, the dumbass of a chairman that I’m stuck with, tells me to play some shitty 17 year old up front instead of my favourite 2 strikers, Villa and Morientes. Then when the transfer window opens, I think “Okay, time to get some strikers in as backup”. What does the dickwad do? He says “Buy a defender. Sell an attacker”. I’m forced to sell Morientes because the chairman wont allow me to sell the crappy youth player. What kind of nobhead chairman tells his club’s manager who to buy? Realistic? I think not.
Every Gameplay on Fifa has Been Shit and Slow
Shit and Slow
Shit and Slow
Shit and Slow
Shit and Slow
Shit and Slow
Shit and Slow
OK!
