Konami confirm Autumn launch for PES 2009

As promised, the official press release for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is here… and along with it a bunch of high-res screenshots courtesy of our friends at PCAction!

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced that it will release PES 2009 for PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, PlayStation®2, and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) this Autumn in Europe. PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.

“The announcement of a new PES game is always a highlight for Konami, but PES 2009 looks set to reaffirm the series’ utter superiority,” commented Jon Murphy, PES Project Leader for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “We are committed to extending the realism of the new game with a wealth of key gameplay additions, and will produce a football title that truly embodies all the skill and pace that is good about the modern game.

So - let’s review these announcements.

  • Launching “this Autumn in Europe”.
  • A raft of new additions to “bridge the gap” between PES and reality.
  • A “stunning graphical update” for PES 2009 which will see players looking more life-like than ever.
  • New moves and “innovative” control elements.
  • “Key online elements” - One can only assume this means the game will actually be playable online this time.

One question. Haven’t we heard all of this before?

    WOOHOO!!!

So glad it’s being released in the autumn. Partly because its always exciting when a new Evo comes out but also cos a lot of my mates are Stoke City fans so they’ll get to play a single year with them on this years edition before inevitable relegation.

i’m personally just looking forward to kicking there a*se on the master league twice a season.

    Thank you Konami

  2. junglist4life Says:

i know this is really early but the players still look like they have one leg shorter than the other, the crowds looks like the shame as last time, the statdiums are **** and dont look like theres and famous grounds so far, even the nets in the goals look ****.

but we cant tell much from screen shots so i just pray and hope it playes like the pro evo we all know and love.

  3. Caniggia Says:

I have reason to beleive that KONAMI that there will be a major change in at least the editing, music and graphical interface this year.

  4. Steve From Stoke Says:

I noticed clouds over the stadium. Hopefully this means weather will play a major part. After watching the Switzerland v’s Turkey game when the pitch was getting annihilated with rain I was dying to replay that sort of thing on Evo. Hopefully Konami will include it. Imagine having an open goal only to see your tap in from 9 yards stop in a patch of saturated mud. Brilliant.

  5. Jasperinho Says:

The screenshots look stunning to me. I am really looking forward to the new Evo and I seriously hope that it won’t be a dissappointment this time

  6. Phillip Says:

WINNING ELEVEN 2008 was a truly amateur entry. I hope 2009 will include foremost a total graphical and physics reworking that will make players look and act real, their uniforms and pitches can have realistc and not preset deformations that may affect the gameplay on the pitch, more animations and cut scenes especially for the PS3 version, more variety in weather (including winds that affect players jerseys and spectators and grass), warm-up or prematch scenes and second-half entrance, SLOWER and simulated realistic gameplay rather than arcadey gameplay, more licenses (each team and player should ahve individual styles instead of wearing the same shoes etc.), more national teams like India, Thailand, Egypt, Kazakhistan, etc., longer time play, more options and real licensed classic players. Either that or FIFA will again reclaim the top spot.

  7. Steven G Says:

I hope to see a great improvement in gameplay. More animations and tackling styles, animations and direction changes for shooting. Reffering must be improved, PES 2008 sooo frustrating to be constantly pulled up for fair tackles.

I’d like more licences teams and definitely more stadiums.
Slower gameplay with requires skill to succeed, not just giving the ball to Adriano and running past 4 defenders, rolling it across the box and tapping it in.

  8. Osis Says:

I just hope they implement the gameplay we used to have. Pes2008 gameplay really sucked.. too fast and too much for dribblers.. Also if you see the ingame screen, there’s no chance in gfx whatsoever…

  9. Osis Says:

no change in gfx that is…

  10. Phillip Says:

And gameplay and AI. Under the professional level, if you score 1-0, the opponent (even if lower ranked) will score back. Scores end up like 7-6, which is ridiculous. Like a table tennis game. The players’ faces all looked hideous, like ogres or something, especially when they smile after a goal. For a PS3 game, WE 2008 looked so bad. Gameplay got even worse. Players and movements so stiff and blocky. the sleeve ends of short jerseys hang like a starched rigid metallic thing around their arms. The jerseys do not move or blow at all. The long hair of other players are equally stiff. Injuries are all the same and repetitive. Where was the ambulance/or cart seen in older WEs? The goakkeepers AI where they super catch impossible shots are idiotic. Why Konami cannot agressively chase or pay FIFA or EA to share some of the licenses is beyond me. Also, under edit, where you register plays (to change members of national teams), they should a photo of each player available, as I hate to use faces that are not real. With the storage of Blu Ray for PS3, it is beyond belief they could not store many more REAL faces of real players. With the super processing speed and power of PS3, it is beyond belief they could not implement more sophisticated simulation and programming and many more elements for the gameplay. The atmosphere sucks. The music sucks. And only a few handful of stadiums?? They should have one real stadium for each national team.
For each top national team, they should have OPTION to choose current kits or classic kits, especially for Holland, England, Italy, etc. This would be cool.
More shoes options, kits edits and etc. 2008 version was so lacking in everythnig that it was a PS One game rather than a truly next gen game. everyone agrees, correct?

  11. Phillip Says:

Please everyone, we should demand Konami to listen to our grievances and wishlist or we defect to FIFA. FIFA’s technoology, while not there yet, is leaps and bounds over WE 2008. Does Konami care at all about their worldwide fans? Do Japanese game companies listen at all to our voices?? If Konami betrays us again to take our money in exchange for sub standard WE games, and goddamn Konami. I already hate the METAL GEAR series for their comical approach. It is this mentality that ruins the real simulation for the WE series.

  12. mark Says:

Looks like the exact same as last year.
    same ****.
I noticed that they didnt mention anything about online play other than key elements.

I remember seabass blagging on about how good pes 08 was gonna be, what aload of **** that was.
and then he went on about the fixes that he will release …this never came!

Think ill wait for vids and a demo before thinkin about wasting my money!

  13. Jon Says:

If this one fails, then it will be the end of PES for me. Both next gen games have not been able to replicate the playability of the PS2 versions (I kept my PS2 just to play PES) and have been sub standard in every department. And they omitted the ability to “tilt” the camera in 2008 which is a big thing for me. I also don’t know how they could create a “next gen” title which has LESS features than previous gen!! Anyway, crunch time is coming soon so I do hope they pull it off - they need to…….

  14. Palladinho Says:

Phillip - you are right. They’ll have to sort it out because i think for the last few PES’ they have been sitting on their laurels doing sweet FA in comparision to the leaps and bounds EA has made in all areas. I think it’s ridiculous the state PES2008 was in when they released it. I would have preffered a delayed release, but on top of flawed gameplay you have to endure the appalling interface, music, lack of licenses and general poor feel of the game. Having recently taken up FIFA08 i have realised what can be done. Konami’s cop out resources reply is bull. And i’m very underwhelmed by this press release, for the first time EVER i’m not going to pre-order my copy of PES but wait for the reviews, and for the first time EVER i may buy FIFA09 depending on the reviews and as it comes out first (question for Konami) What are you goin to do to get me to buy your game a month or two later??

  15. assache Says:

Not excited. Shame really, this type of announcement in the past would have definitely got me going.

Mark is spot on. Gone are the days when you could pre order PES and trust that you were getting a quality product. If the editing isn’t sorted for the next gen consoles, I may go to the PC version.

  16. assache Says:

Look forward to IWP this week. Should be interesting!

  17. MatTheCat Says:

Seems that the mob hath spoken and I am just the same. Not excited at all, don’t believe a drop of the crap the PR man is telling me about PES’s ‘utter superiority’…and if it is just another re-hashing of the same old crap with the same old lame AI flaws then there is no way are Konami getting my cash. (they never got it last year either..I took DVD back to shop for refund).

If PES2009 falls flat, it will mean the END for all things Pro Evolution Soccer.

  19. goalgerd Says:

why are konami wasting their energy on the psp and ps2 versions, this to me means they are still using the ps2 game engine for the ps3 and 360.ive heard theyve also lost the la liga license so once again they will add a few add ons(bet they add ps2 pes6 edit mode)and take more stuff away,im really getting fed up with all of this, why cant they just put their hands up and say they wont make another game for 2 years from the ground up on next gen instead of the same old rehashed rubbish being served up lately!!!

  20. Kenny ... Says:

Yes Finally Waiting has been paid off for this announcement PES 2009. And yes please make something realyl special for this version 2009 . I think all the missing stuff that we have been waiting will be on this game. Prove by all the update they have said.

I love when they still make for PS2 version . Ps2 version still the best version out there. I hope the graphic will be more realistic than older version .

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Version Best of the best version

  21. Simon McDermott Says:

What a bunch of moaning bitch’s!!!
Have you played EA’s latest outing Euro 2008.
What a pile of crap, its so slow and unrealistic i almost slit my wrist’s with boredom.
One bad year and everyone’s jumping ship. If player names and kits are all your after then piss off to Fifa, and play a sub standard game which feels nothing like real football.
O.k pes 2008 on the ps3 is a terrible game, which is what happens when you rush a game out for release, but it is still a more enjoyable game than Fifa which in my opinion is appalling as always.
I don’t really care about kits and stadiums, i just care about the game play.
In Pes you can still pin the ball about to create space, in Fifa when you try and do it the passing is so slow that it makes no difference.
Take for example squaring the ball across field, in fifa the ball moves through the air so slowly that you might as well not bother. Also in pes you can hold the buttons longer to pass to a more distant player something Fifa still cant do.This makes for a game in which your rewarded for running all the way up the pitch with just one player and discourages a passing game.
Also in pes players make intelligent runs, Fifa wouldn’t know intelligence if it hit them on the head.
Fifa to me is like that slapper you pull when your wrecked after 10 pints, who seems all right at the time, then you wake up in the morning and realise she’s an idiot.
Fifa seems ok for about ten minutes until you realise that underneath all that slap is a game made by retards for retards.
So bollocks to kits stadiums ect lets just get pes feeling like pes again and then when that exclusivity licence is up for grabs in a few years hopefully Konami will get it and then Fifa can piss off for good!!!

  23. Amateur Says:

Hate to say it, but this sounds just like PES 2008, “and will produce a football title that truly embodies all the skill and pace that is good about the modern game”.

The skill and pace that is good about the modern game?? So does this means the game will be ridiculously fast?? Just like PES 2008? Football isn’t all about PACE and POWER.. Konami NEEDS to make technical skills and tactical skills their priority, making off-the-ball skills more important -instead- of OVERRATING dribbling skills, pace, shooting power, etc, etc..

So anyways, am I to assume that all the BAD aspects about the “modern game” won’t be included on PES 2009. What about people who do NOT play the modern game? What about teams that don’t play the modern game?? Teams such as Roma, teams that play tactical football instead of the “modern game” that gives so much importance to “pace and skill”.

And I must repeat, The Modern Game?? What is The modern game? Who plays the modern game?? As far as I know, the modern game is played by the ri$chest of clubs. So what happens to the 95% of the remaining clubs?? The beautiful game exists long before the modern game and it will always have many faces.

The pictures look fine, the graphics look fine -but- the comments about PES 2009 are not what I wanted to hear. Any Football Game that ONLY gives importance to the “pace and skill” of the “Modern Game” is bound for failure -because- Football haves many different styles of play, and different Leagues and Cultures.

Italian Football (Serie A) is about tactical Football–something that doesn’t relies on PACE. The so-called modern game is played in the English Premiership. And the Spanish La Liga is also different. Producing a game whose priority is to embody “all the skill and pace that is good about the modern game” would probably make all the Leagues feel and play like the EPL.

I hope the gameplay of the game proves this poor comments wrong.. as Football should be included in its entirety, not just as a game that “embodies all the skill and pace that is good about the MODERN GAME”.

  24. Francis Says:

I have to agree with the fact that it has only been one ‘not-so-amazing’ title [2008] and everyone seems to be jumping ship. I believe PES to have the far more realistic and rewarding game play, and that FIFA is a game for either youngsters who want to feel good by beating another team 8-0, or for gamers who want to have one of the hardest challenges available.

Having said this however, this year’s title [still 08] did give cause for concern, and I’m not suprised people are worried about PES 09 - the screen shots look either exactly the same as this years version, or [as in the wide, in game play shot] slightly more rubbish than this year!

    I’m dubious, but I’ll still be pre-ordering!

    -Francus

  25. Pro88 Says:

Lets not be stupid man. To create a game engine like the one that PRO EVO runs on you have got to be smart, and seabass is very smart. I gurantee you he knew what pes08 would be like. He knew its fast and has a few problesm here and there and that it doesnt have many game modes and that master league is still the same…..but he has that version, 2008, to work on. and all he needs to work on is IMPROVEMENTS like pacing, passing, speed, shooting etc. Its all easy now….he already had the game modes ready when PROEVO 08 launched if you remember when he said that. So he knew this was coming because this is his first REAL entry into the next gen. think about fifa07 how bad it sucked when EA did it from the ground up. Thats exactly what konami is going through now. and I can gurantee you guy, this man knows waht the hell is he is doing and i believe that PES 2009 will honestly be the best SPORTS title to date. Just think about it this way…..all PES2008 needed was FINE TUNING….it got the basics down right and they have had a whole year to fine tune this game…..as for graphics check those close ups they look INCREDIBLE….and graphics arent just about how it looks in the PICTURE lets see how it is in motion then we can really judge it.

  26. Amateur Says:

Well “Pro88″ you have one thing right, the graphics are worthless if the motion isn’t right. And as for Seabass, he is smart, few people argue that, but that didn’t prevented him from releasing a hugely disappointing Football game; PES 2008. And then again, he had to start from scratch for PES 2009, and we all know that re-inventing a game takes longer than just 1 year.

By the way, all PES 2008 needs is fine tunning?? Dude, PES 2008 needs to be totally changed, the gameplay was plain ridiculous, you have to admit that.. Even Seabass said that PES needed a complete overhaul in EVERY aspect, a complete overhaul -NOT- just fine tunning.

PES should introduce a new and improved system of “Stats and Special Abilities”, and they definitely should introduce new basic skills such as Tackling, Through Ball Technique, Tactical Awareness, Defensive Awareness, long range shotting, etc, etc..

But anyways, I hope PES 2009 turns out to be as good as PES 6. And yes, the graphics look great.. some people say that FIFA 2009 looks much better graphically, but I don’t see such a big difference. Maybe FIFA09 haves a slight edge over the graphics, but let’s wait and see who comes up with the best gameplay.

  27. Pro88 Says:

Idk to be honest 08 gameplay was not BAD in anyway imo. And most websites agree on that. Yeah I know its a little fast but i mean its still tough to score. But lets just put it this way…..if proevo08 was the the first and only proevo game EVER it woulda got much higher scores…..its just that the title carries a heavy name and its hard to live up to it. But now that have all the BASICS down for every generation they can improve graphics, commentary, speed, shooting, defense, and w.e else. And remeber again, all the new GAME MODES have been completed by the time pro08 launched…..so this whole time he just needed to focus on gameplay and somewhat to the graphics which imo again look incredible……and lets be honest here PROEVO08 KILLS fifa i mean im nto exaggerating when i say that i cannot play fifa08 it is soooooo slow and boring and the goals are just stupid……proevo08 at least had awesome gameplay.

  28. Amateur Says:

I don’t mean to offend anyone.. but I think that PES 2008 and FIFA 2008 were just plain bad. FIFA -as usual- was incredibly SLOW and uncreative. And PES 2008 was plain boring and too fast, not even time can make it fun, it’s all about the PACE and shooting POWER, it’s not Football.

However, given the fact that PES 5 and PES 6 were actually the only Football games that can be described as good. Well, I think Konami can repeat the feat.. but I don’t think Konami can turn things around in just 1 year, I think they need more time. But I guess only time will tell, the sooner the better.

  29. Spanky Says:

All that they need to get sorted is the online play

  30. ramaxwy Says:

thank u PRO88 and SIMON Mc DERMOTT because if it wasn’t for u guys i would have typed my head off.
i also think PES08 PS3 was good and FIFA08 was **** so i am looking forward to PES09.

  31. Gazza Says:

Question to the forum: If PES 2008is so bad why whenever i go into the online game mode, there are hundreds of people waiting for games. I understand there are flaws in the game, but even this version has given me great games over the last 6 months plus.

I hope that the 2009 version is great, and i believe it will be, because it can only get better.

  32. Simon McDermott Says:

I think what has been great about the pes series is the way the game just flows with rhythm.
For example in pes6 when you string a good passing move together players are always making runs off you into positions, which allows you to string some really spectacular flowing moves together.
I think Pes 2008 lacked this mainly because of the slowdown, which made the game too jerky and this in turn ruined the flow of the game.
Also when you play long balls on pes2008 ps3,you don’t seem to be in control of the movement of the ball as well as you could on pes6.
I think graphically the game wasn’t too bad, it doesn’t have mutated looking characters, which look more like something out of the hills have eyes movies than real footballers, like in the Fifa series.
I agree with the fact that for 6 years seabass has been using the same games engine on the ps2 and slowly tweaked it for perfection and that’s what pes 6 was!
Now however he has to develop a new engine on a machine that a lot of programmers have been having problems with, i mean just look at Haze, that game turned out bad cuz they had problems programming on the ps3.
Pes 2008 seemed like a half finished game which needed alot of tweaking, i think also they could do with adding a few more skill moves and getting rid of the diving and shirt pulling , which i think was a bad idea including them like the hand ball’s in Pes 3.
I think that when they said pes 2009 will “produce a football title that embodies the skill and pace of the modern game” this means they will try and replicate the way in which real football plays.
This doesn’t mean just blistering pace like the premiership.
For example in pes6 you could play the game using super fast passing and pace like the premiership, or you could play a slower more intricate passing game, i tried both and both worked.
Also if you have a team of weaker players, the pace naturally gets slower because of their weaker attributes.
I think that the modern game is different to say ten years ago because of the weight of the ball and the fitness of players which seems to be improving all the time.
You wouldn’t want to play a game which replicates football ten years ago,you want one which replicates the way it is played now.
I am hoping that pes 2009 will be a return to form for seabass, he got it right in the past and i think once you know how to do something properly you can do it again.Once they get over the programming issues then they will be able to reproduce it again.
There deffinately in alot better position then Fifa who still haven’t managed to get it right once in 15 years of trying.
So i know who my moneys on getting it right first.

  33. john4 Says:

haha, same old konami, i can guarntee despite this been very early releases RIQUELME will still; be in the argie team come release despite his international retirement. he is there on the last screen.

they really need to do there home work and put some effort into transfers this time, if it was the gameplay of fifa nobody would tolerate the lack of completed transfers!

  34. Robbyearon Says:

Riquelme is back on the National team, he played against Ecuador and Brazil last week for the World Cup qualifiers.

    Great KONAMI!

  35. ht Says:

i just have to say simon dermot, post 32, that was a long arse message, but most of it i agree with, seabass bought pro evo to this earth and you just have to give him credit for that, yes pes 2008 was a shame and he did get a few things worng, but come on he is entitled to mistakes, i just hop pes 2009 will be a complete new game and bring back the memories from the last previous years, im sure it will! and i also heard from my sources in the konami team based in the uk that there will be full licensed league for, premier league, ligue 1, serie a, la liga, eredivize, and about 15-20 more, example championship, league 1 serie b, etc etc. as ive heard that is, i believe in that 85%, lets just hope so!

  36. PacMan Says:

The players do indeed look great, but from a distance (in-game cam) it looks JUST like PES 2008. This is because they haven’t improved the lighting/details/shaders for the stadium. The result is it all looks plastic and cheap from far away.

That disappoints me a bit, but as long as they get the gameplay, I couldn’t care LESS about the graphics…

  37. Simon McDermott Says:

Sounds good ht that would be a bonus if the championship clubs are in there.
I hope they try and add elements of their managers game to it as well. Things like being offered manager jobs by other clubs , and hopefully they could add international managers jobs as well.
Like is sensible world of soccer back in the mid 1990’s,if you performed well and won trophy’s as a club manager you would get offered the England job ect.
While you took up the job domestic competitions used to carry on in the back ground and you got to choose from every English player in the game and pick your own squad.
Hopefully they will include clubs and leagues from south and North America as well that would be wicked.
But i suppose along as they get the game play right first I’ll be happy.

  38. Pro88 Says:

@ HT……well what kinda sources are they? i mean do they really know whats going on with PES or are they just part of KONAMI as a whole…..cuz i mean having the EPL would just be incredible ( although my fav is the seria a )

  40. Amateur Says:

I agree with most of of what you said Simon McDermott.. And yeah, PES6 was a great game because it allowed you -as a gamer- to play almost any kind of Football. In fact, I could play Defensive Football for the entire 90 minutes and still come up with a win. And Defending was actually quite enjoyable in comparison to FIFA08 and PES08.

And apart from effectively playing Defensive Football, I could also play the Short Passing Game, or Direct Football, or almost any kind of Football. On the other hand, PES08 kind of restrains you from anything that’s creative or complicated.. you’re practically obliged into playing the SIMPLE-PREDICTABLE (and boring) Running Game because there’s just no Defensive answer to stop players with PACE -AND- also because Dribbling Skills are completely irrelevant in the gameplay. A SLOW player with a Dribbling Skill of 99 is worthless in PES08.. PES08 feels more like EPL08.

But anyways, the only Football games that I can personally describe as “good” are PES5 and PES6. And as for PES6, it was a very enjoyable and addicting game.. but it was also kind of frustrating because you can clearly see that the game could be so much better with a few additions and improvements. Maybe the PS2 couldn’t manage to make a better Football game than PES6 -BUT- the PS3 can certainly make a Football game twice as good as PES6.

So, I understand that Konami just started working on the PS3, and that it takes time to get it right. But I just don’t think a good Football game should give much importance to the “Modern Game”. Even today we have teams that do NOT play the so-called Modern Game; AC Milan, Boca Juniors, Villarreal, Roma, the Italian National Team, etc, etc, etc..

Many people don’t know it, but Football hasn’t changed very much in the last 30 years. Maybe boots are much better now, and balls, and pitches, and the pace might be a little faster now -but- the LEVEL of Football hasn’t changed that much. The fast PACE of the Modern Game hasn’t stopped the SLOW but incredibly gifted Juan Roman Riquelme, nor did it prevented Zinedine Zidane from outclassing most players in the world. Can you imagine what Pele and Maradona could do today??

My point is that, although there’s nothing wrong in wanting to “replicate the way Football is played NOW” -I- just think it would be much better to look at Football in it’s entirety, not just about the Style of Football that was played Last Season. Because Football is constantly changing and it did improved in a given time, but since the 1980s Football has remained more or less the same game (it hasn’t evolved, nor improved).

Football always changes; it has gone from Attacking (in the early 1960s), to Physical and Defensive (by 1966), to Attacking again (by mid 1970s), to the so-called Modern Game of Today. Football will -probably- eventually go back to the way it was played in the 1980s.

Bottom Line is that the stars of yesterday could very well outclass the stars of today, and that SKILL is Skill regardless of what style of Football is being played at the time. In FACT, Maradona and Pele would make Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo look like distant 2nds.

So after rant and half, my point is that Football should be presented in it’s entirety -and- NOT just as a “simulation of the way Football was played LAST SEASON” or as a “game that embodies all the PACE and SKILL that is good about the MODERN GAME”.

By the way, I’m fully aware of the FACT that is much more difficult to produce a game that includes all the many faces that Football can have -instead- of just producing a Football game based on the modern game.

  41. Pro88 Says:

lol some of you people are taking the “MODERN FOOTBALL COMMENT” a bit too harsh. I mean konami is not stupid….seabass saw the criticism you idiots….do you REALLY think he will go out there and keep the game as fast as it is now ( 2008 )???? and plus the guy who made the press statement whoever he is idk, hes just a businessman who doesnt care about the game and is trying to string together a few words to make it sound complicated. seabass clearly stated that he saw the criticism.

Blah, Blah, Blah. Yes, Pes5 & 6 are great, but I still think you know nothing about the subject. I hope the get rid of all licences and spend all money on development in the future.

I can see where your coming from Amateur.
I think what’s great about the EPL is that the players can pull of the same skill’s that say players do in serie A,
    But at blistering pace.
There’s a reason Man United destroyed Roma a few season’s back. They did it with great skill and speed of movement,
The faster you move the ball, the quicker you create and exploit space.
I don’t see the modern game in the EPL as a bunch of headless chickens running as fast as they can. Perhaps in the early 90’s it could have been described as that but not now.
You have to remember most games of Pes last only ten minutes. If you slowed the pace down too much, then you limit the amount of action which can take place within those ten minutes.
Maybe it’s something the Pes team could look at in the future, maybe adjusting the pace of the game to preference,or maybe different leagues having a different pace, but i felt Pes6 already embodied this, maybe im wrong.
It’s true that great players of the past would still be great now because it’s all relative.
If they played now they would be privy to modern day training regimes, therefore they would be faster, stronger, fitter.
I disagree though with the comment that Pele and Maradona would make Ronaldo and KaKa look like distant seconds.
Just look at the speed Ronaldo can do step overs and tricks,i watched the Manchester United v Benfica 1968 cup final recently and although George best was an amazing player he couldn’t do the things with a football that Ronaldo can.
I think football has changed a lot since 1960’s, the movement of the players is alot better now than it was back then. The top Players seem to switch positions like a merry go round which, gives lower ranked teams alot of problems defensively, especially when man marking.
Anyway to change the subject what about pes 1,2,3 and four not to mention ISS and sensible world of soccer, what a game that was!! you could do things in that game that you still cant do in modern games.

  44. Phillip Says:

Come on people. I agree with Palladinho and Amateur. Konami has to really reworked the game engine and everything else, and not just make a couple of fine tunings! As for the others who say PES08/WE 08 was a not bad game or a good game that needs only fine - tuning: are you nuts? Compare PES08 with PS2 WE 10 or 9 or even earlier. PES08 was like so **** that I bet a lot of folks were infuriated when playing it. This is Next Gen?? If they claim they want to give us real total football simulation, then give us the real gameplay and players and stadiums and atmosphere and tons and tons and tons of details and physics.
It is people who say PES08 was not bad that make Konami take a casual attitude and not bother to really rework the game for a completely 1000% improved version.
Don’t get angry at most of us who are pissed at the PES08 version. We have the right to vent our dissatisfaction. How much further can we go buying the same promised crap each year and year and year? What really bugs me also is why the hype about PS3 and blu ray when they don’t make of all that technology and disc space.
The new pics for PES09 or WINNING ELEVEN 2008 as they call it here in Japan/Korea/Singapore are inconclusive and we were scammed before last year with the same promises but then rammed with a shocking worst PES game ever (and on the next-gen platform too). PES08 looked dead, felt dead, and even smelled dead on arrival. ’nuff said.
Screw Konami and their moronic Japanese staff for not using more European technicians and artists to build their game and screw Konami Japan if they give us another ****ty game.

  45. Lowell Says:

PES09 has little chance to be much better than PES08 because Konami usually is slower than EA in implementing new features. Worst of all, Konami is not as aggressive like EA in making the best possible product.

  46. Simon McDermott Says:

Oh and would the best possible product be Fifa which is ****e beyond belief, if you’ve got nothing sensible to say Lowell then don’t say anything at all!!!

  47. Micky Says:

“I think what’s great about the EPL is that the players can pull of the same skill’s that say players do in serie A,
    But at blistering pace.

There’s also a reason Man United got destroyed by AC Milan right after that. They got torn apart by a more skillful team at will. It was so bad it wasn’t even funny.

  48. Simon McDermott Says:

Whatever mate, we lost because of lack of depth of squad and bad injury’s at key times.
I don’t think im in the minority in saying that Serie A is not what it used to be.
I guess you will be enjoying the fact that A.C Milan aren’t in champions league next season, and in truth should have been thrown out of Serie A for match fixen a few seasons ago.
Utd European champions, suck on that beatch!!!

  49. Amateur Says:

McDermott, thanks for replying.. Now, I’m NOT saying that the Modern Game is all about “a bunch of headless chickens running as fast as they can.” My point is that the Modern Game is mostly played EFFECTIVELY by the clubs that can afford those kinds of players; Cristiano Ronaldo, Tevez, Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel, etc, etc..

And the clubs that can afford those kinds of players are very few, wich leaves the EPL with a good number of clubs that play like “headless chickens running as fast as they can.”

This also kind of explains why the EPL haves 2 Different Competitions; The Top 4 Competition (Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool), and The Competition for the remaining teams (Bolton, Man City, etc, etc).

You have to admit, that in the EPL defenders and midfielders leave HUGE gaps because of the excessive running. Those kinds of wide open spaces (gaps) are not found in La Liga or Serie A. A clear example is Thierry Henry, whom is clearly struggling in the Spanish La Liga (and also struggled in the Italian Serie A) -because- he isn’t allowed big wide open spaces to exploit his 6th gear.

There are LOTS of positive things about the Modern Game, but there are also negative things. For one thing, you need the ca$h to sign those kinds of players. And secondly, creative geniuses such as Riquelme are left out because of their lack of pace. I remember when I could watch BOTH Eric Cantona and Matt Le Tissier playing in the EPL.

Anyways, you mentioned something about “different leagues having a different pace”, and I think that’s a MUST for any Next Gen Football game -Because- all the Leagues have a particular Style of Football. For example, Italian Football (Serie A) is about Tactical Football.. Spanish Football (La Liga) is more about Tactical Attacking Play, Passing and Movement and Flair.. and English Football (EPL) is more about Pace, Technical Skill and Physical Condition.

I’m not sure about PES6 establishing this basic differences between Leagues -but- I could certainly change the style of play of my team; I could play Defensive, Tactical, Direct, many types of Football. However, a completely different thing is if the Computer can do the same.

So until now, we have PES6, a very enjoyable and addicting game -but- a game that even with the most addicting gameplay in the world -still- becomes frustrating and boring at a certain point.. it is clear that with a few additions such as New Stats and New Control Options the game could’ve been much better.

Of course in comparison with FIFA -PES- was loads better. But still, PES6 is FAR from being a proper Football game; Poor Positioning, excessive running, faster than the real thing (although the responsiveness is spot-on), and way too GENERIC. PES6 lacks many Fundamental Skills that are essential in Football. It lacks Defensive skills, Passing Skills, Shielding Skills, Goal-Scoring Skills, Awareness Skills, the list is endless.

PES6 showed us potential, a potential that maybe could NOT be fulfilled with the PS2 -BUT- a potential that can certainly be fulfilled with the PS3. I’m still waiting to see when Konami will realize that -in order to really improve- they MUST re-arrange the Old Gen System of “Stats and Special Abilities”, they need to introduce more skills and they need to personify the computer players.

The Skills SHOULD dictate the tempo of a particular Team and League -however- considering that PES6 (and PES08) haves a set of Skills and Special Abilities that are far too generic and limited.. Well, Konami’s PES is still unable of having “Different Leagues with Different Pace, and Styles of Play”.

I hope we get to see those Fundamental and Decisive Stats (Skills) in the near future -because- this are the skills that can determine if a player is suited to play in a particular League, if a player is suited to a particular pace, if a player is suited to a particular role -if- a player is a Zinedine Zidane, or a Ruud Van Nistelrooy, or a Paolo Maldini, or an average player, etc, etc..

But most importantly, those are the SKILLS that can take Football Simulation to the Next Level.. the skills that can make a Proper Football game, a game where not the best players win -but- the best TEAMS win.. because it is a known FACT that the best players do not always translate into the best teams.

  50. PROEVOFAN88 Says:

I really cant relate to many of you ppls issues….i play pes2008 on xbox 360 and it NEVER lags ( online it does for sure )…..but i mean offline this is the best soccer game that i have played ( and yes i played pes6 which i liked but too many shots just flew over the goal WAAAAY over ) but i mean pes08 just needs a couple of tweaks here and there…..as far as jumping ships to fifa lol….come on now they can have all the licenses in the world and i will still like PES better always….as far as the screenshots go…..PLEASE PLEASE comapre it to pes2008 and ull see what a huge difference they are….and then add into that all the aw4esome new animations that will have….more stadiums….better editing….NEW MODES…..tweaks to the gameplay….and WOW this will be a hot game.

  51. Amateur Says:

NEW MODES, better graphics and all that.. But still, wouldn’t you like to see more Stats such as Defensive Awareness, Tactical Awareness, Though Ball Technique, Shielding, Passing Range, and many others that SHOULD be added.

By the way, I guess there will always be people that like crappy games such as PES08. It isn’t just about tweaks here and there -it- had to be taken back to the drawing board, it needed a complete overhaul in EVERY ASPECT. Hasn’t anyone read what Seabass said himself.. even Seabass admitted it was far from what he wanted.

Sometimes it annoys me that some fans are “satisfied” with games like PES08. Newsflash people!! PES08 is plain bad-crappy-arcadish-boring-unfinished, and it is so far from what the PS3 can offer that it isn’t even funny.

Comments such as “it just needs a tweak here and there” will only discourage Konami from really working on the game. Guess what?? Konami has been simply tweaking and re-tweaking PES for the past 4 to 5 years. What was the aftermath after 5 years?? Konami has NOT made a single NOTICEABLE improvement since PES5.

If some of you guys are OK with playing a tweaked version of PES5 (after 4 years now) -then- please keep wasting your money, I’m sure Konami will be more than happy to ca$h in.

  52. PROEVOFAN88 Says:

    @Amateur

Dude I know that you are pissed at the game and I agree with you that it needs more improvements b/c we know that Konami are capable of it but what pisses me off EVEN more is when people are talking about jumping ship to FIFA….lets be ****ing honest here FIFA08 is a HUGE improvement…for a FIFA game. It still is waaaaay behind in gameplay and thats what matters to me.

  53. Maracini Says:

Pes 2008 is a good game if your playing it with your mates and having a laugh, but its when your on your own where it falls, The masterleague is ok but not as good as Fifa’s league system, but when i feel it falls most is when it comes to online play. I will never understand how such an important aspect like online play can be overlooked when these days its such an important part of any game. Its unplayable so i say vaffanculo to who was in charge of that part of the game. Sort it out then i trust all the other stuff will be forgotten about!

  54. Amateur Says:

Don’t get me wrong PROEVOFAN88, I also have the same opinion as you; “FIFA08 and Euro08 were good for a FIFA game” “But are still way behind of what a proper Football Game should be”.

However, I have to admit that I think Euro08 was better (or at least more enjoyable) than PES08 -but- I’m not going to switch to EA just yet.

But still, Konami haves loads of things to improve -and- as a long time PES gamer I am extremely disappointed with the fact that PES6 is basically a tweaked version of PES4 (or PES5) -and- that PES08 is not even worth playing.

Maybe PES5 deserved comments such as “great game, it just needs a tweak here and there” -but- after 4 years or so, we have seen enough tweaked versions of PES4. PES08 deserves quotes such as “I’m bored of tweaked versions of PES4″ “I want to see a complete overhaul in every aspect, I want New Stats, New Controls, New and Improved gameplay.. I want a better game”.

So the Bottom Line is that Konami still hasn’t made a major breakthrough since PES4 -and- it is about time Konami comes up NOT with New Modes or New Licenses -BUT- with New Stats that actually make an improvement to the gameplay. Bottom Line is that we’ve seen enough tweaking and re-tweaking, and it is about time we see a complete OVERHAUL IN EVERY ASPECT -just- as Seabass himself promised.

  55. PROEVOFAN88 Says:

@ Amateur the only thing i disagree with you is about EURO 08 being more enjoyable then PES2008….but all in all I am 100% confident that KONAMI saw the complaints ( and since you like to quote seabass ) remember how he said he saw the complaints about the game…..so im confident that he will have a much better effort in PES 2009 and really make the clear cut winner as the best soccer title…..which IMO PES2008 still was in 2008.

  56. Amateur Says:

Yeah, I guess is a matter of opinion.. a Lot of Football fans have said that Euro08 was better and more enjoyable than PES08 -others- don’t agree.

But I just think PES08 is too boring, too much running, I’m practically running 70% of the time -instead- of running so much, I would like to see much more AUTOMATIC running -in order to do- more of the complicated and fun things in Football; Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Tackling, THINKING of my next move instead of running all the time because of the POOR OFF-THE-BALL positioning.

To put it short, I’d like to play more Football -instead- of running all the time. The Off-The-Ball Movement NEEDS to improve dramatically. Even PES6 haves poor off-the-ball movement, and PES08 haves (if it’s possible) even worse off-the-ball movement. PES would be so much better if Seabass nails the Off-The-Ball movement.

Anyways, I hope Seabass accomplishes what he wants, and I hope what he wants isn’t just a PES6 with Next Gen Graphics.. I would like to see Seabass and his team go beyond PES4, they certainly can -but- they have to put more effort.

  57. Simon McDermott Says:

I suppose where the problem maybe in creating a true next gen Pes, is that Konami are going to have to be the pioneers of new ideas and like you said Amateur not just Pes 6 with better graphics.
I think you have come up with some great ideas and i hope Konami look at this site and take note of them, because all the ideas to becoming pioneers of next gen Pes lie with what us, the fans would like to see.
You are right in saying Pes especially 2008 requires you to play at such pace, that you can’t take your time and play a really tactical game.
You can still play tactically using the strategy buttons to change your formation to confuse the com, which seems to work every time, especially on Pes 2008 ps2.Like you said Amateur Ideas like tactical football, tactical attacking, Passing movement flair, pace, technical skill, physical condition. These are all stats that could be added to different leagues to really define a country’s stile of play, and give you a truly different experience depending on which league you choose to play.
I think Konami touched on it slightly when adding gameplay frames such as premier league, liga espanola, Serie A ect.
I am hoping they are going to shock us all with Pes 2009 and give us all of these things and a true next Gen game.
I know that to keep konami on there toes,us the fans, need to push them to be better, in the same way in which great players need to be pushed to get the best out of them.
Im also hoping they will add Manager elements to the game, such as job offers from other clubs and fully integrated international competitions, running along side the domestic leagues, in the same way that sensible world of soccer used to.
I wasn’t saying that i was happy with Pes 2008, far from it i thought the ps2 and ps3 versions were appalling. What i was trying to get at was that even though these game were bad, they are still streets ahead of Fifa, which offer’s none of the improvements in game play which we desire.
Different leagues suiting different players is also a great idea, just imagine spending all summer trying to sign a player, only to find that he can’t adapt to the style of play, of the league you are in. This may however be difficult to judge,as you can never really be sure if a player will fit in until you give them a go.
So i suppose what we should all do instead of maybe running Konami down about making a bad game and saying right thats it im of to Fifa, which lets be honest if they didn’t have a competitor in Konami and someone to borrow ideas of like they did in the past, Fifa wouldn’t even be at the level that its at now,and they would soon let standards drop again if Pes wasn’t around.
Lets make this the place for all the new ideas in which, the pioneering can take place, instead of saying this is crap, lets say why! and what we think should be done about, which alot of us do already.
If then Konami still don’t listen then they deserve to loose fans and customers and im sure that’s something they really don’t want.
So lets hope Pes 2009 is the new beginning like Pes 1 on the Ps2, then perhaps we can get back to enjoying total football again.

  58. The Man, The Myth, The Matt Burton Says:

I have always slated FIFA. Every single year I have gone out and bought Pro Evo because, regardless of it’s minor flaws here and there, it has always delivered a fundamentally sound football game. Last year was like somebody had cancelled my birthday. It truly was the first year I lost faith in Pro Evo. All I want is a decent football game to play on the PS3 with graphics and gameplay that justify the ‘Next Gen’ tag. I am ashamed to admit it but I dabbled with FIFA for a month or so but have since traded it in. Pro Evo for me, has always needed to address the licenses issue - this is the BIGGEST ongoing problem that has needed rectifying. But last years installment brought about more serious issues. The notorious online lag which deemed the game completely unplayable, the awful fram-rate during replays, a reduction in the quality of gameplay during matches. 3 MASSIVE ISSUES that are even higher priority than than the licenses for now. Get those things right and you’re back onto a winner. I can’t wait for its release but if it fails again like last year, it’s the final nail in the coffin I reckon…

  59. The Man, The Myth, The Matt Burton Says:

    sorry about the typo’s there.

  60. The Man, The Myth, The Matt Burton Says:

Before I sign off, one other thing that has annoyed me slightly in previous posts… I share the anger people have with last years release but certain users are asking for ridiculous superfluous aspects to be included… Kazahkstan national team??? That’d be great if there was a Limited Borat edition. As if anyone cares about minor indiscrepancies like that. Are you just a Human Rights activist or what? Next you’ll be asking for Womens’ Football teams to be included. Grab a Yorkie bar and sit down. All we should be asking for is the reintroduction of the brilliant gameplay that the old Pro Evo’s made us all fall in love with and couple it with the graphics and greater gameplay that we all paid the extra money for on buying a PS3 in the first place. To quote Ace Ventura… “Damn I’m good. Can you feel that Captain Compost!?”

  61. Markos Maximus Husband to a fridgid wife, father to 2 great kids... I will have my PES vengance!!! Says:

Totally agree with Mr Burton!!!! Kazahkstan? I ask ya!!!! Are you all retarded!!! The exeptional game play and, for me, the customisation of your own team is what made PES the No1 football sim on the market!!! I hope whichever baffoon was in charge of development of PES ‘08 has been taken out and mollested by a gang of crazed gibbons!!! It appears to me that FIFA are about to blow PES out of the water, where FIFA has taken the challenge to create a better game in every sense of the word PES has gone backwards!!! Watch out PES ‘09 this could be your last chance!!!! Back to basics boys (and girls) give us back the game we love!!!

  62. Simon McDermott Says:

It’s ok the crazed gibbon was really a Fifa spy and now he’s been captured and sent back to E.A!

  63. Amateur Says:

I completely agree with you McDermott.. There is a clear difference between just moaning -and- moaning while also offering ideas that you think can make the game better. And by plain logic, in order to improve in some aspects -you- need to hear the criticism of those aspects.. And better yet, if the CRITICS are giving ideas.

Wich is something plenty of people do NOT seem to understand -or- just don’t care that much. Because comments such as “it just needs a tweak here and there” are not going to help Konami in any way , and -if anything- this type of comments discourage Konami from really working on making a breakthrough.

That said, I really appreciate that you have shown consistency in your arguments, and also that you’re thinking outside-the-box in the sense that you’re aware that Konami can go beyond PES4.

So anyways, (I will try to make this as short as possible) I’ve been a Football fan for ages and I’m an Amateur Football player, so I’m very interested in everything Football related. And a funny thing is that ever since PES5 I’ve been impressed with the potential of such Simulation Games.

So after playing a lot of PES5, I realized that although the game had a very enjoyable and addicting gameplay -it- was still lacking some BASIC SKILLS.. and that made the game boring at a certain point. So I did my own personal research (or project, call it what you want) about Football and about the Fundamental aspects of Football that PES5 lacked.

I spent a complete year (2007-2008) watching and re-watching Football matches. And it became a hobby of mine (still is from time to time), I always saved 3 hours a day to watch a particular match of Football. So there I was, watching Football matches through “youtube” (you’d be surprised at how many matches you can find via youtube).

Now, I’ve watched the Brazilian dream-team of the 1970 World Cup, I also watched Johan Cruijff’s Total Football in the 1974 World Cup, Maradona in 1986, Carlos Valderrama with Colombia, Zinedine Zidane with France, Romario with Barcelona, etc, etc.. And it reminds me of what the Rolling Stones said about their music “we heard everything we could possibly hear before we made our first record”.

Watching past games and past players -and- watching some of the greatest exponents of each position gives you a better understanding of the game. For one thing, you have a clearer idea of how Football has changed through the years. And you also see some clear similarities between past and modern players, for example you’d be surprised at how many similarities Riquelme and Pele have, and how many similarities Valderrama and Riquelme have, or Romario and Agüero have, etc, etc..

It is something of a trademark, classy players such as Pele, Riquelme, Zidane, Valderrama, Cruijff, Maradona, Platini -they- all had very similar Tactical Movements. Poachers such as Romario and Ruud Van Nistelrooy also have similar positioning inside of the box. I can clearly notice a difference between the Tactical Movement (Off-The-Ball Movement) of a World Class player -and- the Tactical Movement of an average player.

But this are differences that aren’t all that clear to many people -or- to people who haven’t actually seen the real thing. Because many people talk wonders about Pele and Maradona (or about Ronaldo in his prime) -BUT- many of those people have merely watched “Video Clips” of them, and Video Clips do Not show you the Real Deal –it- doesn’t shows you Pele’s game or Maradona’s game.

So After watching plenty of Video Footage regarding some of the greatest exponents of each position, at least I have a better understanding of the game -because- I’ve seen how the greatest players played, and I know how great players are supposed to play and move through the pitch, etc, etc.. In short, I have a clearer idea of what great Football and great players are supposed to be.

So I reached a certain point where I asked myself “Ok, I’ve seen plenty of Footage of some of the greatest players of all-time” “I think I’ve seen more than enough” “So what made them great in the first place??” “What made Zinedine Zidane so different to any other player” “What made Maradona so outstanding”, “What made Maldini so difficult to get by”, etc, etc..

This is the fun part because you find yourself comparing players and watching footage again –and- comparing again, and looking for those fundamental abilities that made them outstanding and unique.

And the first thing that you realize is that PES6 (just as PES08) haves a set of “Stats and Special Abilities” that is far too limited and GENERAL –to- establish this Fundamental Differences. This is why in -PES6- Kaka was better than either Zidane or Riquelme. This is also why players such as Zidane, Riquelme, Figo and a few others felt like the same player with the same exact skills –but- with different names and faces. And this is also why it is practically impossible to have “Different Leagues with Different Pace and Different Styles of Play” in PES6.

Because the Pace of a League, the pace of a Team, and the style of Football a team plays SHOULD be dictated by the STATS (SKILLS) of the players. It is a known FACT that Players play to their STRENGHTS and hide their weaknesses.

For example, if you have a midfield made up by Xavi, Iniesta, Riquelme and Messi –you- have players that are more suited for the compact game of short passing. On the other hand, if your midfield is made by Kaka, Lampard, Ballack, and Cristiano Ronaldo –you- cannot play compactly or in tight spaces because this are players that are not comfortable in tight spaces, so this kind of players will play a different game that involves higher pace, more running, and more dribbling with the ball.

So Bottom Line is that Konami needs to re-arrange their Stats System because their Old Gen System of “Stats and Special Abilities” is full of flaws. They NEED to introduce STATS that can establish FURTHER differences between Second Strikers and Playmakers, Center Backs and Wing Backs, Defensive Midfielders and Attacking Midfielders, etc, etc..

They NEED NEW STATS in order to make PES a team game, a game where Not the best players win -but- the best TEAM wins. A game where you can truly be a Player/Manager as you can have the best players in the world -and- still be a complete failure due to bad management decisions such as NOT playing to your players strengths -or- forcing a tactical scheme that doesn’t suits your players (typical Louis Van Gaal).

Such NEW stats should include; Tactical Awareness, Attacking Awareness, Defensive Awareness, Work Rate, Short Ground Passing, Short Lobbed Passing, Long Ground Passing, Long Lobbed Passing, Through Ball Technique, Passing Range, Close Range Shooting, Long Range Shooting, Shot Composure, Finishing, Shot Technique, Marking, Tackling, and a few others.

By the way, I apologize in advance for the incredibly LONG POST.

  64. PROEVOFAN88 Says:

    @ Amateur

Well one thing you have to keep in mind is that about 2% of PES players are as hardcore as you….second….PES 2008 is not a BAD game if there was a contest right now about waht is the greatest soccer game ever made….it would PES 2008 ( i know the older ones got higher scores but thats b/c standards have risen ) but if you compare each title side by side….PES 2008 is THE best soccer title….BUT KONAMI really needs to make a better effort because to me it seems that they are just relying on the gameplay to keep them as the best soccer title which is kinda cheap so I am glad that the graphics finally look really good and i have no doubts that PES 2009 will be the winning eleven that we all love!

  65. Amateur Says:

We’ll see.. Still, the gameplay needs improved Off-The-Ball Movement. And yeah, many people think PES08 is better than PES6 -and- I just don’t agree with that. Hope PES09 is -at least- as good as PES6.

By the way, it’s not a matter of me being a super hardcore PES fan (I don’t even play it that much anymore).. I’m a hardcore Football fan, I play Football, watch Football, it just disconnects me from reality for awhile (what else can I say). And as good a game as Football really is, Football Simulation Games are just not living up to the Potential.

And yes, unfortunately, as you rightly said “Maybe there’s like a 2% of PES players that are as demanding as I am” -so- I don’t think Konami will be making a breakthrough any time soon -because- HONESTLY, most PES fans would be more than happy with a PES6 with Next Gen Graphics. So I guess, I’ll just have to lower my expectations.

  66. Simon McDermott Says:

You are right Amateur more stats need to be added to further define players and their differences.
In the same way that adding more pixels to a character, helps you define in greater detail the way a character looks.
The same can be said for accurately recreating characteristics ,of players to give them the feel of their real life counterparts.
Pes has always been the hardcore football fans title, and in the past Fifa was always the casual gamers football title.
I know people who gave up playing Pes because, they found it too hard, and preferred the pick up and playability of Fifa.

And that’s fine i think there is room for both games, and all genre’s need an opponent to keep them both striving to better themselves.
I too have been a football fan all my life and remember as a kid watching maradona, Roberto Baggio,Jurgen Klinsman, ruudy Voller ect, and also remember that it wasn’t until the early 90’s that decent football games started coming out.
Pes is the first game since Sensible soccer, to really capture and recreate the way real football, feels and plays.

From what you have said it is clear that you Know and understand the game well, as i myself used to play and also used to coach kids football.
I think what sets great players apart from average players, is their genius. Their ability to see things in a way that others don’t, they don’t just see themselves, they see the bigger picture, they think outside the box and always do the unexpected.
They are like artist’s who see the field as their blank canvas, through which they can create and inspire those around them.
Sorry im turning into Eric Cantona.
So anyway i haven’t played the Xbox 360 version of pes 2008 , so i can’t really comment on that, but as far as the ps2 versions and ps3 versions go, no way is it the best version yet.
On the ps2 version the players feel lethargic, and awkward to control, it’s also been made far to difficult to tackle players, forcing you to use formations to stop your opponent’s scoring.
And this is the absolute worst problem out of all of them, for the first time ever in a pes game there is a diagonal scoring angle. On the ps2 version, when you line up a shot running at a diagonal, and lining your player up with the far post you can score from ridiculously far out almost every time, which encourages you to use it as a sure way to win match’s.
And as for the ps3 version where do i start.
The jerkiness ruins the entire game and stops it flowing.
This version feels more like Fifa than any other, its still not as bad as Fifa, if it was then we really would have problems.
You can’t create as much as in Pes 6,play just feels uninspiring.
And another sure way of getting a goal is to just bounce a shot of the keeper which, he rarely catches and just bang the follow up into the net.
Anyway im going of on one again, perhaps Konami should employ us all as game’s tester’s then we might get some where.
Im going to compile a list of thing’s,which i would like to see in future editions of the game.
Hopefully Konami will listen to us.
I’m off to watch the Euro’s final now,

    “come on Spain”.

Alot needs to be changed in PRO 2009. Like the Master League for example they just need to scrap that and start all over again. And in the “WEFA Championships” How can you have 4 English teams in one group? = \ I Just think they should base this new one on Pro 6 beacuse in my opinion thats the best Pro to date! Seabass should really become a member of this forum to get the fans feedback… COME ON SEABASS BROWSE THE WEB!

And they need to bring back proper editing to the game. How can you edit a players nationality or edit boots =| Pepe of Real Madrid is Brazilian.. But yet i saw him playin in the Euro Champs For Portugal and i know Brazil is his 2nd Nationality. And please at least get Real Kits for a big team, Im a man united fan but even i wouldnt mind Arsenal Or Liverpool having a real kit :| not spurs and newcastle!! Oh well i think this is the last Pro i will try before i forcefully convert to EA’s FIFA =[

just like to say that foreigners ie mexicans, French, italians, Indians and especially Turks smell really bad, and before I get reply saying I’m immature, just like to say its the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. Foreigners should shower at least twice a day
