This could be a busy day… more high-res PES 2009 shots

We have already seen a 5 of these accompany the press release, but IGN have now uploaded 8 fresh screen grabs (which they have now pulled from their site… but can still be found here) from the upcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. I can’t say there’s much to get you excited just yet (or maybe I’m just getting tired of this same crap year in year out?)… but I guess anything is better than nothing.

Judging from the pics its really really good… but what we want are stuff that distinguishes from fifa plus what pes does best before last year’s pes2008… this time round it must be better or else many of us would really move to fifa… it just has to be better this time… good luck Konami… pes still rocks :)

from first look theses look great. only thing i dont like (being a bit picky here) the goalkeepers gloves they look ridiculous. surely with the details in stadia and faces they could make them look real

  3. KingJack Says:

Being a PES fan I don’t really care about the graphics, as long as it plays well then I’m happy :)

What a flat press release, very disappointed if this is supposed to whet my appetite after the disappointment of PES2008 - very little to get excited about and no real difference between the screen shots from PES2008. They have obviously spent a little time on the stadiums - big wow.

After getting tired of winning matches easily in ML and going two seasons unbeaten, I bought a copy of FIFA08 2nd hand - a game I hadn’t played since the ‘97 N64 version. I would never have conceived of doing this in the past if PES2008 hadn’t of been so thin. Yes thin, barely an update from PES6 and arguably a step back PES2008 is an arcade game with little to offer after 4months of playing. I don’t care about online so went go there about the lag tech problems etc. I found playing FIFA08 extremely hard as even after having played a whole season in their version of ML - i still find things happen by chance rather than by consequence. Bottom line the in match gameplay is inferior to PES - but not THAT much. Where as in every other aspect FIFA is miles ahead.

Playing FIFA08 has just made me a little angry (and sad) at what a botch job and what little value for money PES2008 was. Seriously what did they do???? Teamvision is obviously a PR spin word ‘cos we all know it’s non-existent plus why is there so few teams to pick from in PES - i know the whole license issue but come on. I actually think the players look better in PES than in FIFA the likeness are much better - but other than that what have you got to shout about. FIFA also has a great soundtrack and more in depth player development options. Don’t get me wrong - I love PES, I’m just frustrated as to why they can’t fix simple things like get a decent soundtrack, allow users a more advanced edit mode etc. My worry for Konami (as I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking this) is that having played FIFA08 it’s not a million miles away from PES gameplay wise - it’s like playing PES4 - so with the FIFA09 press release promising a whole raft of mouthwatering features - whats to keep a disenfranchised former PES fanboy like me from buying FIFA09 and not bothering with PES which comes out later in the year?? Come on Konami pull your figure out you are losing your client base.

PS - Thank you for your excellent excellent podcast & blog - your continued enthusiasm and intelligent banter is just about the only thing that is keeping my love for the PES alive. Here’s hoping for a miracle in PES09

There are alot of people in here that should just shut up. I have never in my life seen such winging about a game in my hole life….and i’m old…

If you hate the game so much why don’t you just play FIFA? it is a good game.

If you play PES2008 on its own premis it is as good as FIFA, but if you play it like pes6 og 5 you will be highly disapointed. Of course, the depth of the game is very bad. The edit mode is…..well, you can say it is not there, it is very bad, and it is those things that they need to sort out. The gameplay is ok, and playing against mates i still fun (or irritating if you lose). A great edit mode, and able to put patches of different leagues in the game i vital. As the new pictures arrive I’ll have to say that it looks ok, I wasn’t expecting more, and I hope everything they have said in their statment is true….if so, we have nothing to worry about…..if not, then they just shoot themselves in the foot, and FIFA will get world wide domination. You can fool a person once……

  6. Palladinho Says:

Wimcen - the point of being able to post is to encourage discussion, the “winging” you “whinge” about is because a great many people on here recognise that would should be a far superior game (in the opinion of most people here) is slipping behind and become a stagnant franchise, following what is in my opinion patently bad management. Considering the revenues Konami generate from this series (and from us) they deserve to be called on it. When their work is as sloppy as the last PES and you pay £40 for it I think its fair enough.

  7. anon Says:

    Wimcen shut up you fanboy.

  8. Neomotion Says:

All i have to say (forX360):

Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online, Online.

Online features are a joke. A real joke. A F$%#king joke.

  9. Omar Says:

Where is the information for the Wii version? PES has great potential for the Wii but I think it’s being treated as second-class.

  10. NIKOLAS Says:

Its a bit early to judge them dont you think?
I prefer a few words from them and more actions cause the last time happened the opposite.

  11. ht Says:

i think i have to agree with pallidinho, it is a sort of forum where people can get across there own opinions, all i have to say wimcen is that if you dont wanna hear the whinging, the dont simply read it, simple easy!

  12. mwhite Says:

It’s early days yet. But I can’t say I’m bowled over by these screenshots. The just look like the shoddy, half finished PES2008. The stadiums look alright, but no doubt we will still only have a handful to play in (No Old Trafford or Anfield, but plenty of random grounds in Asia nobody has ever seen before - Go figure). The TEVEZ shot seems to show the old PES2008 trademark of including 5 players all not watching the ball.

Will wait for a review me thinks. Which I hope will include the phrases: Gameplay like PES7, extensive edit mode, keepers that can catch the ball and not spill it straight to your striker, resulting in a 5-1 win on extra hard.

  13. pesFannnn Says:

still wishing this time that it will be better than pes6 and not using last year’s pes2008 as the gauge for improvement… still looking forward to everything konami has to offer… getting excited now…
    current excitement rating == 20%

  14. Mr.A Says:

Who does everyone reckon will be licensed this year??
    I go for
    The Bundesliga
And a few more national teams licensed(Germany,N.Ireland,Wales,Ukraine,Russia,Romania, a few more african countries and mexico or usa)
I also have a sneaking suspicion the SPL migt be licensed, because in one of the screenshots for the stadium you can vaguely see a hearts flag, or it looks like anyway, lol.

  15. KupuAnd1 Says:

What PES2009 needs is a full new Master League, I mean real money, better player development, more leagues at the same time so we can have a real good Champions League, etc.

Better edit mode. Where we can add teams (if Konami doesnt buy the licences) Where we can create real life players and add them to the teams, logo creator, brand creator, etc, etc, etc. Just give us the tools and we make the game with all the Fifa teams believe me. I want to play a real second division master league with real temas and players rather than select random teams and see the Serie A or the Premier League with teams from another countries after the season is over.

Real transfers dates, let me begin transfers at the beginning of the season!!!!

And I can go on and on and on.

    4me online and crowd animation

  17. abdullah khan - man u4life Says:

pes 2009 photos looked great. i think they should give less fouls becuz in pes2008 fouls were given away so easily.they should also put more divisions in it like the championship, serie b and, the second division of the spanish league etc. but judging by the photos i think the game will be great. the goalkeepers gloves look good what are u talkin about pro _evo_legend?

  18. Fat Tony (iz bak) Says:

These pics look awesome, seriously this is the first time i can say , Pro Evo has some stunning visuals, its looking really sharp

  19. mark Says:
