PES 2009 Game Play Footage
Posted by Dan Bolas in PES 2009 News on Wed 20 Aug
This footage is taken from the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany, the usual place for the first PES footage of the year. Obviously this has been taken on a handheld camera, and features no sound, but the game itself looks very similar.
What is interesting to see is there is no slow down at all. Hopefully this will be a positive omen for the online experience. The footage shows two human players competing against one another as Brazil vs. Portugal. The end of the video shows a human player (France) playing against the AI, controlling Brazil.
Thanks to WENB for the footage.

Lovely passing has changed, this will wipe fifa of the face of earth
I want to play it.. it looks kind of like PES 6 (or PES5) with good Graphics. Pace seems to have gone back to normal, Defending seems improved, the Crosses (Crossing) might have improved, the animations look better, the Graphics look slightly better (no longer resembling plastic), and a few other slight changes.
That said, the movements didn’t looked that “great”, the Dribbling looked too basic, where are the subtle cuts, the subtle touches with inside or outside of the feet, etc, etc.. and the passes look as though they could have improved even more. Maybe the players where not very good at it.
I’m hoping, we have new Controls for Defending and Dribbling.. But Overall, the game does Not looks Impressive, but it looks as enjoyable as PES6.. So, I’m expecting an enjoyable game with good graphics -wich- is a 1st in Football Sims.
I guess i expected more from it. But i’m fine with a pes5 with improved graphics.
Fifa however did make progress previous year, and are doing it this year again!
I read somewhere “fifa made it right, but when pes makes it right it just feels so much better”.
But it’s not going to be this year. I think we pes-fans have to be happy pes (maybe)returned where it was 2 year ago.
I am lucky, i dont lean toward either game, i just want a good footy sim, i play both fifa and pes to death, pes has always been ahead of fifa in gamepley, that is until pes 2008 which was total crap, fifa 08 was better, this time it looks like we have the old magic gameplay back for pes 2009, although the movement looks very robotic, fifa is gonna be good, the way i see it, i am gonna be very busy playing both this winter.
Looks the same really. All the animations are exactly the same! cmon konami! this looks like playing pes 2008!
PFT, they didn’t even change the HUD during match… i don’t see big differences from older PES, i am really disappointed
I think this might be the first time that I’ll go back to fifa after 6 long years of PES. This is not the improvement the game needed to bounce back, specially after FIFA got La Liga exclusivity.
Oh and while I thank the people that released the video and all of that, it’s a shame the first video of PES 09 is two guys that clearly don’t play the game above 3 stars.
I think it’s too early to tell from this footage…the players seemed to be not very good at the game, they had one shot on net…it looks like the player graphics were updated but I dont really care about that, I want the gameplay to improve and a better master league….please have lots of teams!
Thats it!
I am definitely not going to support konami anymore! If they dont bother making the game better, then why should I care about the series that i have supported so far.
I mean, just look at the game, it doesnt capture the whole football feeling. The stadium, the game, the effects and gameplay doesnt really capture that crazy football aura. It is same as pes 2008, in fact I have a hard time, trying to spot the difference. On the other hand, EA has been fantastic this year, I watched a clip today which was taken from leipzig and i gotta say that i’m more than pleased. Its just something different about the fifa game. It actually seems like your watching a real football game, the visuals, the chants and excitement. I just feel konami has been able to capture that excitement. Just take a look at promotional fifa 09 video presented in Leipzig(new trailer) and compare it to the one PES 2009 had.
I can explain fifa 09 trailer in one word: WOW!!!!!
If you dont believe me, take alook yourself.
Sorry Konami but it seems that you have let us all down once again!
I’m afraid I have to agree with the majority of the posts so far. The graphics looked marginally better, the dribbling looked pretty basic (although that wasn’t helped by the players!), the free kicks haven’t changed at all, the ground looks exactly the same as before (what happend to the promise of working video wall/screens?? It clearly didn’t in that excerpt then).
That looked decisively dodgy to call a credible update. Please can someone make my day by telling me the edit mode, new leagues, better master league and chants etc have definitely been included as this was a very poor showing.
Just found this on Gamespot. I’m still undecided!!!
Konami’s next iteration of Pro Evolution is nearly here, and we polished our boots for a first play.
While it’s still the best-playing football game on the market, there’s no doubt that last year’s Pro Evolution Soccer disappointed many fans of the series. Unimpressive visuals, annoying gameplay tweaks, and a myriad of bugs (particularly on the PlayStation 3) saw the game slip dangerously close to relegation. However, Konami has gone on record saying that this year’s iteration will fix the problems with last year’s game, taking more advantage of current-generation technology while restoring the gameplay to its former glory. We got a chance to play the game for the first time to see if its promises look set to be delivered upon with the 2009 version.
First impressions of the game are good. Konami has upped the ante and created a menu system that’s easy to navigate and makes better use of imagery and animations. The same awful J-pop music remains, but at least some effort has been made to improve the visual presentation. On the pitch, the player likenesses are now even better, particularly with star players such as Cristiano Ronaldo. That said, the game is still some way off the visual fidelity of FIFA, so we’ll have to see how much more it can be polished in the run-up to release.
The noticeable changes to Pro Evolution 2009 come in the form of feature enhancements and new gameplay modes. In the former category, there will be an expanded player-editor mode in which you’ll be able to add logos to kits by importing them from an external device. The PC and PlayStation 3 versions will offer USB data drive support, but it remains to be seen how this will work on the Xbox 360. The thorny issue of licensing remains in Pro Evolution 2009, and with EA eating up all the official data through its exclusive deal with FIFA, there’s no end in sight for the made-up teams in Konami’s game. Two teams from the English Premiership will feature official names and sponsors, but we couldn’t get Konami to tell us who they are. However, Konami did tease us with the news that a major European competition will be officially licensed in the finished game. We’re not allowed to announce which competition, because of an embargo, but we expect that fans will be pretty excited by the news.
The big new gameplay mode for Pro Evolution 2009 is Become a Legend mode, in which you’ll pick an individual attacking player and take him through a professional football career. If you perform well as part of a team, you’ll attract offers from other clubs, but if you lose the ball and fail to set up goals, you’ll receive a low mark at the end of the game. Cynics might suggest that this closely resembles FIFA’s Be a Pro mode, but Konami assures us that the Pro Evolution equivalent has been around for some time in the Japanese Winning Eleven series. Unlike in FIFA, though, you can’t call for the ball when you want it, which makes the mode more challenging than we initially expected. If you’re playing for a lowly club, you’re limited by your teammates, while your lack of tactical input means that you’ll end up sitting on the bench for some games.
The gameplay is where it’s at, and Konami says that it’s using Pro Evolution Soccer 5 as its benchmark in this regard. Pro Evolution 2009 certainly feels slower paced than last year’s effort, with more on-the-ball control than ever before. Konami claims to have made the ball even more physically independent, meaning that it will even react to certain grass types and wet conditions. While we didn’t get to play a game in the rain, we did notice some of the new individual tricks from certain skillful players. As in last year’s game, certain top-flight players will be able to pull off moves all their own, and they move from tricks to standard animations very smoothly.
Konami boasted about its Teamvision AI system last year, but it really seems to be coming through in the 2009 iteration. We were impressed with how reserved your teammates are about passing the ball if you’re not in a strong position, which encourages you to make more-intelligent runs. Some elements of the game seem slightly dated. For instance, your salary in the Become a Legend mode is paid in “P” points, though overall the new mode should be a welcome challenge for those bored by the master league.
Speaking of which, the master league has also been updated to more closely follow modern business dealings. If your players want to leave your club, they’ll perform poorly on the pitch. The multiplayer elements have also been improved. You can now have a total of four players online, in standard ranked and unranked matches, and in the Become a Legend mode. Konami is aware that players didn’t think the multiplayer element of Pro Evolution Soccer 08 was up to scratch, so it has promised more-advanced features, such as the ability to upload replays from within the Become a Legend mode.
We managed to coax more good news out of Konami: There will be a demo of the game for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the week of release. Make sure you stay tuned to GameSpot for all the information as we get it.
this game has got **** written all over it,fifa looks like being better again as long as passing an speed is sorted this is the exact same as 2008 from the looks of things, absolute ****in joke konami
well i think it looks better than fifa 09 gameplay coz that seemed too slow imo.
what are you guys talking about? it says its using PES 5 as its benchmark ( which is considred the best pes yet!) if u guys want licenses go to fifa you ****ing bitches,…i get soo tired of hearing ppl whining about the GRAFIX and LICENSES…..stfu dont act like u didnt expect this….we all knew PES wont have many licenses we play this game for the GAMEPLAY
yh ITSME these people are jus gay and fifa hasn’t improved i seen footage its the same expect for more goal celebrations, and thts dat i am getting this game looks like pes6 but improved alot so yh, i am buyin this
FIFA CAN SUK MA BALLS!!!!!!!!!
hey PS3 boy…..read this man ( if its too long just skip to the last paragraph )
from one of the most trusted PES sites….
http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/adams-perspective-pes-2009-play-test/
What the hell is everyones problem. The game play looks exactly like Pro Evo 5. What’s wrong with that? This game looks great quite frankly. The edit mode is back so we’ll have our amazing patch makers make the game fully ‘licensed’ too.
You just can’t satisfy people these days, wow.
wow you all you guys do is complain complain complain. All you have seen of the game is a crappy hand held camera video and a very short trailer. You clowns have way to much time on your hands. Get a life. I hope this game kicks ass and when it does you will be gloating about how you were a life long fan and you rode out the bad times, but forgetting that most of you are ready to jump ship. FIFA is **** no matter what improvements they make. I you eat your words if this game kicks ass and that the makers of the game all raise their hands high and stick up their middle fingers to you clowns.
got to ask how many of u’s clowns who say they are going for fifa will actually buy pro evo 09 ? i bet all of u ! so stop bitchin and comment when u have played the full retail game . fukin humans are getting more retarded as the years pass . fifa throw out some screenshots which ill admit looks realli gd graphics but whats the point in gd graphics when the gameplay is crap !!! Pro Evo 4 Life F**k all u fifa fanboys
no doubt il be getting it coz i dont enjoy FIFA for more than a week but i am still dissapointed with how similar it looks, but hopefully it will feel better to play. with the memory on these discs they could put in 100s of little animations for slide tackles (apposed to the 2 they have now, a standard slide and the slide from the side where they like fall over) they could add loadsa foul animations and falling/diving, or what about the yellow cards, i got sick of seeing the 2 animations they have for it. shots could have more animations ect. this way they are keep the core gameplay which is generally solid but varying the game.
why do we always get shi* people playtesting as well!
i thought there was an article mid year from konami stating it would be “back to the drawing board” for 2009, it doesnt seem that way.
they definently need to either make it impossible to dive in your own half, or let the ref just wave play on, i have never ever seen somebody be booked for diving in there own half, also convincing dives are often booked, if they are convincing but the ref does see it as a freekick fare enough, a yellow card shouldnt follow tho!
theres my two cents…
Real pro game play here, http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38557.html yes i do belive after the last pro we should have got more from konami with this, but it seams not as its a money spinner
Im Sorry i see no differences from the other one ! come on same animations ! same game play !
looks the same as pes2008…fifa looks better, but cant tell until you play them
Fifa: down 3-0 at half? no problem i’ll score 6 in the second. PES: final game of the season, down 1-0 needing a point to win league and scoring in the 90th minute and you’re yelling and celebrating like it the real thing. PRICELESS! (FIFA sux)
Everyone please go to FIFA, and let us play our BEST PES2009.
IF Konami released PES2010 without any Licensed teams I will still buy it for PS3,PS2 and PSP.
Is not the shirt, is how the ball moves and all the feelings with get just like real and pure Fútbol.
love it.
to all the ppl who say fifa looks better then go and whack off to gameplay footage of fifa then u sad ****s
All you haters p*ss off!
u ain’t played it so you opinions are pointless “going back to fifa” to score your 53rd free kick from a week of playing. As much as fifa tries it’ll never create the same emotions and quality football feel of pro evo. Go back to Fifa, but the fact we see the same people coming back to whinge just feels like your trying to save face on your ability to hate on a game thats actually alot better than fifa even when they disappoint.
Yes 08 was disappointing but it was still far better than fifa when fifa apparently made “massive strides” like all championship winning sides, pro evo wins even when it plays poor!
Totall agree with “Robbyearon”

I think it looks brilliant! I can’t wait for the release date! FIFA 09 can get stuffed! :)
“All you haters p*ss off!”
All you 12 year old fan boys, **** off.
The game looks terrible, I would have been happy with this 5 years ago but this is a disgrace, it’s basically a slowed down pes2008 with the same **** animations.
That is the last straw for me.
Good bye Pro Evo. It’s been fun.
HAHAHA My god tht is horrendous. No change wat so eva to last year. Wears the huge graphical improvement?? Very poor
What’s wrong with the people saying that they will change to Fifa.
PES 2009 will win this year, Fifa 2009 in the other hand will suck bad.
Gameplay is what makes this sport more enjoyable, and PES has been winning in this term for years.
Fifa’s gameplay is the same for about ten years, same goals, bad movements, very unrealistic, Fifa sucks.
Ok, for the last time… haters f**k off!
I really can’t believe that you are saying there is no change to last year. PES 2008 was a fast-paced arcade game. PES 2009 has slowed down and gone back to its tactical and great gameplay just like PES 5/6. Not to mention the addition of ‘Become a legend’. (Which by the way Konami used BEFORE fifa in 2007 in Japan before all you fifa idiots go off talking about Konami copying Fifa’s ‘Be a Pro’)
And to the retard who said there is no atmosphere, you are commenting on a video which had NO SOUND!!
My goodness me, where are the times people could have a decent discussion even when they had different opinions…O yeah, it was before the internet did eat out all time and brain capacity from the don’t-know-what-to-do-with-my-time kids….
If you can just throw insults, just give your own opinion without commenting on the one from others please…
Anyway, looks like the twin brother of 2008 to me, but hopefully they’ll look different once it “grows”, as you can’t judge the book by the cover 7 it’s still early days.
Still, nothing to be overly positive about ’till now, I’ll still be enjoying it, but mainly due to lack of alternatives. I’ll probably end up playing Fifa^& Pro, they both have their shortcomings, but see it like this: Roma will play Vucinic or Baptista as a pure striker, NOT because they are brilliant in that position, but because they are the only options and both not ‘too bad’.
Just 1 thing: WHAT with this CL-licence/mode, is it in the game or what? Agonizingly quite on that matter….
“”"And to the retard who said there is no atmosphere, you are commenting on a video which had NO SOUND!!”"
LOL i like that…
Yeah its so funny to me that people say this sucks when most playtesters say the game has gone back to its ROOTS….and how can u tell the graphics when we are watching through a house camera in LOW RESOLUTION…..
wow i mean for those who say FIFA is better….waht are you doing here man go to your forum and talk about all the exciting LICENSES that you will have this year and we will talk about all the great goals we can score in PES, deal?
Exactly.
For those who haven’t seen any of the new Fifa here is a video I’ve just found:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rWRB1qQLLHs
Admittedly it looks good and sounds good but still think there is something about the gameplay thats not as good as PES, however, I really liked the off the ball runs players made and the through balls.
Think I’ll have to get both but Fifa on the Wii or PSP for when I’m working away!
Apologies, I’ve just noticed R Stewart @22 posted the same video!
its still jsut not good for some reason……I guess KONAMI just got lucky with the gameplay when they made PES…..it seems like no other sports title can replicate its respective sport as good and fulfilling as KONAMI
I realy doubt SEABASS and KONAMI knew that there gameplay would be this great…..i think they just got lucky in the process. Oh well thats good for us.
But yeah fifa it just doesnt have that FEEL to it
the above comment when i said
“its still jsut not good for some reason”"
I was referring to the fifa video by MN9AJAS
it seems like pes2009 is an improvement on pes2008 in terms of the speed of the game (slower, and reasonable pace). Overall it seems like nothin’ ‘as changed (especially player movement)
I never really played the PS3 version of ‘08 (played the PES6) but I know there was a divin’ function included. A dive is provoked by a team player attemptin’ to steal the ball off his opposing marker. So from the video, to see Ferreira “dive” with no player(s) in close proximity of him, wit’ the ref givin’ a yellow card for it is bizarre.
I thought maybe the PES work team would’ve caught onto to this and tweaked the usability of the dive function.
Get what I’m sayin’…??
GUYS CHECK THIS OUT HOLY ****!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/gamespot-pes-2009-video-feature/
It still has 8 way controls, everythign else looks ok, but the limited directions make everything look stiff and artificial.
Wow, thanks for the link, absolutely amazing.
PES 2009 will definitely win this year.
GUYS CHECK THIS OUT!!!!! SEABASS INTERVIEW OF PES 2009!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/seabass-pes-2009-interview/
GUYS CHECK THIS 1 ASWELL SELCTION OF MATCHES IF U WANNA WATCH THEM http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/more-pes-2009-videos/
Ahh looks awesome. Cheers for the link
@ ps3 is the best!!!
cheers for the link, looks very interesting for nxt year, but just 2 points:
1.the presenter in the vid sounds like kermit the frog
2. the goal the guy scored- how awful was the goalkeeping there? from miles out with no power and he dived over it! hope theres none of that in the game lol
Thanks for the links “PS3 IS THE BEST!!”. PES 2009 looks really, really good!
was anything said about the edit mode…? can we select the players faces for our new players (like PES6) or do we have to create them from scratch??
It looks alright with improvements in graphics and decrease in speed however it still doesn’t look like a major difference. I hope they still have minor changes like the boots and nets it will have a better presentation and a better look to the game.
What about additions like chants for home games like listening to united chants and liverpools chants you know what i mean it will give a great feel to the game and making it more realistic. i just saw fifas trailer and graphics is amazing but then again fifa is like a bimbo good looks and no personality. Imagine if easports and konami had a child lol that would be crazy if u get what i mean. pro evooooooo 4 evaaaa oleeeeeeeeeeeeeee oleeeeeee
i really agree with ‘desconfiad’ on his comments.. goals are really worth celebrating for when u are playing PES… thats what makes it special.. You Are Involved!
No question about that… i really love the way when things turn around our way during the minutes u spend in a match.. anything can happen.. u get that whooping feeling when u score.. and you get that ‘you deserved it’ when u concede on poor showing.. thats what PES is all about.. not colors, not celebrations, not designs… but its pure unadulterated football… thats whats kept me sticking to the series for 12 years now… ever since the versions of playstation gran’pa… :)
Fifa sux all the way… alllllll the way… PERIOD.
I was wondering the same thing as “MagicaRoma”, IS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LICENCE GOING TO BE IN THE FINAL EDIT OF PES 2009 OR NOT? This website CONFIRMED it would be in pes 2009 some time ago now but there has been no mention of it since in Leipzig or otherwise. Fingers crossed Konami are saving that info for last.
Personally I’m REALLY excited about PES 2009 after seeing that video. Graphics seem improved and the pace of the game has been tweaked for a more realistic feel. Looks like it will be great fun to play. I do agree with anonymous though, the dive function seems as pointless as it was in PES 2008.
I think it looks good, and a lot like Pes 6.
If you can’t notice the difference then look more closely.
It doesn’t help that the two guys playing it aren’t very good, but over all it looks like the movement of the ball both along the ground and through the air are much more realistic.
Players seem to hold their positions better and the slow down appears to have gone.
Lets be honest it’s only been a year and there was a lot wrong with 2008. I still really enjoy playing Pes6, and from first impressions it looks very similar but with better graphics.
Obviously it will be better than Pes6 with more definition added to both passing and player skills.
I think the most important aspect is the gameplay and if they have restored that flowing, rhythmic feel that Pes6 had then were half way there.
I wasn’t expecting massive strides for 2009 and I can understand people being upset, because they want a really outstanding, truly next gen game.
I think next year we will see that, now that they appear to be fixing the original problems with the games engine.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the exclusivity licence that Fifa hold up for grabs next year. If the Pes boys manage to grab that the Fifa won’t have a leg to stand on, because their main selling point will have vanished.
I think rather than being pissed at Konami for not adding the things we would have liked to have seen in the game, and lets be honest Fifa should have done alot more to their game considering the license they hold. I think we shoud be angry at E.A because the only way they know how to beat the oppostion is by underhanded insidious tactics.
Rather than making a vastly superior game and really utilising their licensing, they have persisted in waisting all their time trying to ruin other company’s attempts at making football games, by denying them the abillity to use licensed players and competitions, in which they would have been able to create a global database of players and accurately simulate the real world of football, exactly the way sensible world of soccer did many years ago.
It was Fifa that killed of that game by denying them licensing which made the game pointless and even with it’s superior gameplay it still wasn’t enough to keep the series alive.
We then had to endure years of bad football games thanks to Fifa until the ISS series got up and running.
So I for one blame E.A for this whole situation and I for one would even be willing to donate money to konami just to make sure E.A have no chance of replenishing their licence.
O.k so the graphics of Fifa look a little shinier and more polished than Pes, but have you looked closely at the player animations. The players look like frigging mutants, or at best bad cartoon animations,or puppets from the spitting image series.
As for the gameplay it has no soul, and I hate having to use the bloody analogue sticks to control play or to make sprints.
Fifa has no rhythm and is like watching Mr bean try to dance, appalling.
So i think we should get behind the guys at Konami, i don’t think the first series on the Ps2 was a fluke, because you can’t fluke it for 6 whole games.
I think they’ve done a great job considering the situation they’ve been in with the licensing and if the roles had been reversed the Fifa series would be a distant spec on the horizon.
After all it’s Fifa which has been trying to copy Pes for all the years, not the other way around.
I don’t see a section in Pes games offering you the option to use Fifa controls, like you see in Fifa games. That’s because like any good football team Konami play their game, and let the opposition worry about trying to work out how their gonna beat them.
That’s the main difference between the two. Konami just get on with what their doing, while E.A try to figure out ways of stopping them doing it, which is ****e.
So E.A can kiss my ass, I have been unimpressed with them for years and they will never get a penny of my money.
Just think if Pes wasn’t around they would go back to there old ways of poor gameplay, with just official licensed teams , just like a bad movie tie in game.
I stil think the Pes series has a big job on it’s hand after a shaky start, but I remember after creating a great ISS on the N64, they then went on to make a poor game on the Ps1.
So it’s happened in the past and they put It right then and I believe they are fully capable of doing it again.
I think they are definitely in a much better position than Fifa who still haven’t got it right yet.
I dont care that the game looks very similar. If it plays anythin like pro 5 than surely its gonna be ****in gud? Im very optomistic about this one. Surely they wont make the same mistake. I have faith in this latest installment.

I agree with those who think this looks similar to 2008, but hasnt that pretty much always been the case with PES games? I remember thinking the same when I first saw PES5 after playing 4, but its always the subtle touches and improvements that make the big difference. Until we have played this, probably for a month or so, and noticed all the areas of improvement, we cant really comment. Its always been about the ‘feel’ of the game, which you cant really guage from watching this footage. That said, I do think there are notable improvments here, it seems to be much smoother and flow better, despite the poor playing skill! As long as frame rate issues are sorted, along with online play and edit mode, PES 2009 will be more than enough to keep me happy for another year. Whichever PES I own is always my favourite game and if it gets improved, then thats a good thing for me.
same stupid nets!
still buy it though, evo till i die!
Put PES4, PES5, and PES6 aside.. tell me if you notice any differences by “Looking” at them.
PES09 will be good, you can see it in that short clip straight away; Defenders seem to be better, the Pace is back to normal, etc, etc..
Konami had it easy for this year -because- we still haven’t seen a good PES with good Graphics.. In fact, we still haven’t seen a good Football Sim with BOTH good Gameplay and Graphics. So PES09 will be the 1st.
Still not Next Gen though, but enough to keep us satisfied for at least a year. That said, Konami have used an Old reliable formula -however- for How long can they keep this going?
Maybe it’s about Time to start Elaborating on the Old Gen system of Stats and Special Abilities, include New Stats such as; Tactical Stats, Passing Stats, Finishing Stats, Defensive Stats, and a few others.
Further Establishing Differences between all types of players, further defining what a player CAN do and what a player CANNOT do.. Maybe PES 2010 will be that game.
Anyways PES09 sounds great, I hope we get a few surprises once the game comes out.
Oh, and **** FIFA.. They want to buy their way to success, what are they so afraid of?? Do they need to buy every License?? Pathetic..
Even more pathetic considering that Konami still managed to remain at the Top even when EA Sport’s FIFA was the “Fully Licensed” one.
Guys Realyy FIFA SUCKS and pes has been improved but you need time to see the diffrence you know its not like fifa that you can win in your first match!!
PES 2008 vs FIFA 09 - fifa wins that one !!
but pes 2009 vs fifa 2009 (SO FAR) - pes wins !!!
GO KONAMIII !YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!
WEMBLEY LINCENSED STADIUM YEAHHH!!
well said guys, Fifa can suck my chocolate salty balls.
Lets hope Konami knock them into oblivion when the licensing wars begin in 2010.
Don’t give Fifa ammunition by buying their game. If they manage to out bid Konami next time it will be at the expense of production allowance, meaning their gameplay will suck even more.
We should all boycott Fifa leave them skint so they have no chance of obtaining renewal of their license.
Disappointed.. I thought, even if this is an Beta version
gameplay, they should have at least overhaul or change the already - arcade gameplay elements.
PES 2009 probably and really just an Bugs-free Version of PES 08..i’m not going to waste $85 dollars on PES soccer games…
Just a small thing, but looks like you still have all players shirts tucked it. Don’t know why it irritates me so much- hehe. Oh and one other small thing - I like in a previous version where when selecting your kit before a match you got to choose exactly which shirt socks and shorts you wore. Again, dunno why I’m going on about such a small detail- I guess I never understand why they would choose to remove such a small, yet cool, feature.
Thnks for all the cool links guys.
I think I’ll be getting PES2009 by the looks of things.
lol i laugh at all u pes fans taking cheap shots at fifa when we all no ur trying to come to terms with how superior fifa will b this year…
so just relax, calm down and face the facts fifa is the most advanced football game.
i think the two dildos playin in the video are fifa fanboys, could they have made pes 2009 look any duller? (apart from pausing the game for 5 minutes)
Andrew (Post 90).. I get what your saying, small details are sometimes cool features. For example I wonder Why PES has still NOT included Classic Players that actually look like their real-life counterparts used to look.
Yes, some people might say that those are just “Details” -but- How different would it be if the “Classic Players” actually looked like themselves??
And in the same way, Who would use Kaka or Cristiano Ronaldo if they looked Nothing like their real-life counterparts?? And again, I would rather see Pele and Maradona in High Def Graphics -instead- of Peter Crouch or Dirk Kuyt.
It is quite Diminishing to see that Peter Crouch haves an Impressive looking face -while- the likes of Pele and Maradona have some random-cheap-looking faces.
Wich leads me to say that, FIFA has already started to include Fully Edited Classic Players -even- though the PES series was the 1st one to feature Classic Players, unfortunately Classic Players with random Names and Faces.
So yeah, PES haves quite a good formula Gameplay-wise.. But they could ALSO improve on the Details, the seemingly Unimportant Aspects that DO make a Difference; Untucked Shirts, Fully Edited Classic Players, PES Shop Decent Main Menu, Boots Editor, etc, etc..
LOVE PES AND I HOPE THIS WILL BE THE BEST GAME YET,LOOKS GOOD,NO SOUND BUT IM SURE ITS GOOD,ONLY THING I DIDNT QUITE SEEM TO GET IN THIS VIDEO IS WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED AT 3:33,WAS THE DEFENDER DIVING,DID HE TRIP OVER A STONE,WAS HIS LACES UNTIED??,ALSO IS THE PS3 VERSION LIKE THE PS2,U KNOW FAST PACED GAMEPLAY?,IF IT IS I MAY STAND A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING GOOD AT PS3,BUT IM REALLY GOOD AT PS2!
ACTUALLY HE WAS DIVING MY BAD,THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THE REF. SHOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN HIM A YELLOW CARD,I THINK THAT REALLY UNIMPRESSED FANS,KONAMI SHOULD HAVE A LOOK AT THAT B4 RELEASING THIS GAME OR ELSE THIS GAME MAY BE RUINED,I THINK THE YELLOW CARD SHOULD BE GIVEN ONLY IF A PLAYER IS BEING CHASED BY SOMEONE.
I am sick and tired of a lot of modern day, spoilt little brats of gamers who complain about graphics.
For goodness sake if graphics are more important to you than gameplay, then go play FIFA.
PES has always been inferior to FIFA interms of presentation and graphics, but PES has always ruled in the most important aspect of gaming, which is gameplay.
And there are a number of journos who have seen the game live and are saying the videos being shown are not doing the game enough justice.

Yeah, I’d love to see the classic players treated well. That’s why they are there and people like to play as them- otherwise what’s the point. I’ve always wanted a footballe game -PES or FIFA- to release a special classic edition. I love watching all the retro footage and would love to play a game with all the old teams from world cups and for the graphics to have a filter on them to make it look like the TV coverage from the day. All the kits would be true to the ra etc. All the big hair styles etc. Even the in game menus could be craptasticularly retro. :)

It’s easy to hate people who constantly whinge about gfx. But consider for a moment different people’s criteria for a great game experience.
I’m a very visual person, I’m a graphic designer who happens to play football (all be it socially). So what i want out of a football game is great game play but when I have plastic characters and robotic animations, I find it really hard not to notice these ‘flaws’, because I play other games and know that it is possible not to have these flaws. It is a video game based on a real life game, based on real life players, so it’s only natural people would like for it to look as much as real life as possible or to know some effort had gone into making it look like real life. (You can’t say they’ve put much effort into gfx and animations in these last two next gen version). Even the marketing guy in the video was going on about the new look of the menus, you can’t say people don’t notice how something looks or care what it looks like. We’re humans, we notice these things.
In a perfect world I would like the graphical and animation quality of FIFA, with PES gameplay, kit editor and game modes.
Now I have no rights to demand Konami make my perfect game, but it’s just annoying I guess for people to hear journos say it so good to see PES2009 plays like PES5, so people like me are going, “well why didn’t they rest on the gameplay of PES5 and polish the gfx and animations in all these subsequent years?” It’s just a small gripe for me.
Anyway, I think it’s all about expectations of what the current tech can do. I am dissapointed at the gfx and animations, but it’s not a deal breaker for me, I’m buying PES2009.

yes, but NO.. as I don’t really care that much about the Average Classic Player. Of course they could add some Classic Teams -but- all I really want is to see the Renowned Classic Players in PES.
Renowned Legends such as; Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Garrincha, Zidane, Romario, George Best, Platini, Alfredo Di Stefano, Bobby Moore, Franco Baresi, Carlos Valderrama, Roberto Baggio, Matt Le Tissier, Fernando Hierro, Van Basten, etc, etc..
If Konami included them Properly, that is Fully Edited; with real Names and Faces -or- at least with their “Real Faces” somewhere in the Edit Mode) -then- we could play Classic Players vs Modern Players, etc, etc..
Plus a Special Classic Edition of PES would end up being a rip-off, a profitable game like FIFA’s Champions League, etc, etc.. It would be better if Konami simply included the Classic Players “properly” in the PES series.
The simplest way of doing this would be to feature the Classic Players with random Names and random Faces -BUT- with their Real Faces somewhere in the Edit Mode. This way, the fans who care about such things could easily look for each player’s Face and just edit them into decent-looking Legends.
As a faithful fan of PES for more then 10 yrs, I must say I feel rather disappointed with this vid as it seems like nothing has been added. Same animations and the robotic feel is still there but hopefully seabass with do us fans justice with the final product.
