Improvements, Facts and Flaws

Well, so far so good for all you PESGamers. All sorts have been coming in thick and fast, I have been finding it hard to keep up. This information has been gathered from various playtests. Playtesters played a 70% completed game therefore certain flaws might be fixed when the finished game is released. Here are some of the improvements, facts and flaws in this years game:
- Some new features enhance game’s realism, like players calling for the ball and a sense of genuine intelligence
- Animations have now been smoothed out, more of a natural flow to the game now
- A Major European Competition will be Licensed in this years game
- No La Liga License this year
- 4 Players able to play in a game online (2 vs 2)
- ‘Become a Legend’ mode can be played online
- Cannot play as a Goalkeeper or Defender in ‘Become a Legend’ mode
- Better edit mode, very intricate
- Master League points have change to currency (Apparently)
- New Manual Pass system
- Goalkeepers have improved
- Improved tackling, now harder to beat players
- Shooting is also harder, Striker’s stats and body positioning play a bigger part in how accurate a shot will be
- Player models have improved, players look more realistic (Beckham even has his neck tattoos)
- Lighting effects have been improved
- Long balls and crosses seem a bit ”floaty”
- The ”Invisible wall” around throw in taker still exists
- New “clearer” menu system
- Wembley confirmed to feature in this years game
- French Ligue 1, Italian Serie A and Dutch Eredivisie will be licensed in this years game
- Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Greece, Holland, Italy, Ivory Coast, Japan, Portugal, Spain and Turkey are the confirmed national teams at this point
- Manchester United and Liverpool FC are the only 2 English teams licensed in this years game
- Jon Champion and Mark Lawrenson return in this years game, with a few new lines and comments
- Custom MP3 files can be imported into the game to be played on the menus
- Still no mainstream music, but there are over 60 rock songs to choose from
- The Lobby returns in this years game making it easier to find your opponents online
- Boots will be fully customizable in this years game too
- New ability to import sound files, so players can create their own chants
- The look of the grass has been improved
- The ball does not seem to roll for an enternity along the grass
- LED advertising boards have been added (Only on the next gen versions)
- Goal nets have been improved

im really trying not to be negative, but the more pes vids i see the less excited i am when i compare them to fifa vids.
i know its all about gameplay, but im struggling to pick out all these improvements konami are on about.
im sure youve all seen that interview with the guy talking about the menu and cut scene updates, but everything down to the camera sequence is identical. a little brush up on the score, clock, player icons etc when give it a welcome face lift.
dont get me wrong these are minor things, but as such should be so easy to improve.
i just hope the gameplay and online is flawless, then i wont be that bothered.
SHOULD BRING BACK GOAL SCORER LIST DURING PAUSE MENU ON PS3!
They need to get more goal celebrations i am tired of the same celebration all over again who agree’s wiv me here!
A month or so ago when all we had were trailers and the features boasts from the marketing chaps at Konami and EA, I was feeling nervous about PES. FIFA was looking polished and talking a whole buncha business about ball physics and less-on-rails dribbling. I was scared that I was going to buy FIFA.
But after seeing the trailers… honestly FIFA still looks just like FIFA… rail-like running, easy shooting, and is it just me or do the player “bodies” look awkward and very unrealistic (specially in the CG trailer with Ribery and Pato/Ronnie running around). And PES looks like Winning Eleven. For FIFA, its a bad thing. For PES its a good thing.
Sure Be A Legend nice, Wembley is nice but Champions League would be incredible… depending on what they do with it.
I feel like the priority I expect from this game are decent graphics, old school winning eleven gameplay, no slow-downs and NO lags online. Give us back the old edit mode and I’m sure some chap will make a La Liga as sexy as FIFA’s. I missed custom chants. I think Seabass is doing a great job of giving us back what we use to have at the peak of PES, and we shouldn’t be complaining. Well judgement is reserved till the demos are out.
plus i would love to see a man of the match and the player of the month in season mode that would be amazing
is there traning menu, where the computer teaches u how to do some things & u get to try it & why is it only two team licensed in premier league. what is up with spanish league not been license. not sure about currency. is there more team in the game than before, more league. im struggling to pick out all these improvements konami are on about. konami have bastardise the game.
EA is chewing on the La Liga license.
the demos are going to be rubbish i heard that konami doesn’t want to show off all the moves in pes 2009 untill u buy the game.

I hate fifa for taking the la liga license just so Konami can’t have it, how long will it be till all the licenses are exclusive to fifa. But we’ll always have our precious gameplay.

Why on any given earth would anyone make any kind of demo which is NOT a demonstration of the game? I’m sure displaying an abysmal demo is on the top of Seabass’ to-do list.

Fifa was predominatly the footy game of the 90’s and was sitting on the top of the food chain only because there was no genuine competition but when ISS came out times started changing.
I think round about PES2 more people knew of the game and out done FIFA at the top spot this was mainly down to the game play.
The numbers show game sales for both games below of the leaders in the genre:-

Which brings me down to this year if the pes fans stay true to their beloved game then it should be:-

Game Play is the selling point and PES wins hands down!
“I’m sure some chap will make a La Liga as sexy as FIFA’s”. I assume for this you need the mod chip installed into your 360 or ps3? Or will you be able to edit the kits so that they somewhat resemble the authentic ones?
pes2009 demo will have worse graphics and less gameplay than the release version, who told you that rubbish?

No idea about the 360… but for the PS, a lot of people spend tonnes of time fixing, editing the kits, names, numbers and transfers on the Playstation to resemble the real ones. They save their “option file” and upload it here. All you gotta do is download it, stick it in a USB and shove it up your PS3. Voila.
So no, this does not need a mod kit!

Fifa has outsold PES every year by a long margin, fact!
Perhaps in the early 90’s FIFA was the only serious footie game and I agree that up until PES 08, PES has always held the crown from 1995 when it first came into the fold on the SNES as ISS.
Stop being a fanboy and look around all the PES forums. They are all dead, even in the 2 months leading up to the release of PES09. As a life long fan of WE, I for one have my hopes that the game is up to scratch this time around and I dont even care about the Licences, animations, boot types or anything, so long as the gameplay is fluid and the AI is solid…..
……but like many, for the first time ever, I am really not that excited about PES09 as I dont believe Konami will have gave it the workover/optimisation necessary.
I will certainly ‘try’ before I buy this year.

thanks Rooney. Just got a playstation 3 a few days ago. Not to sure on how to work an option file, as I’ve never owned a playstion before. Sounds like I made a good decision buying it, originally I was mainly interested in it for the blue ray, however I found some great games as well. ie metal gear solid. So if anyone can inform me a little bit in the requirements I would need to download an option file. thanks.
jus download the file and put it in the usb and den go on saved utillity or wat its called and copy ur option file from the usb, or u cud go on youtube and search on that mate

PES 2009 will win this year, Fifa 2009 in the other hand will suck bad. Gameplay is what makes this sport more enjoyable, and PES has been winning in this term for years. Fifa’s gameplay is the same for about ten years, same goals, same ****, bad movements, very unrealistic, Fifa sucks.
Im sure there’s FAQ on the forums here about that. At the home page on pesgaming.com, click on the “Files” tab… and search for a topic with a PS3 option file. Its just a couple of simple steps about what folders you need to copy on to a USB.
Worst case, google something like “how to install PES option file on PS3″ –>

Fifa doesn’t suck, its different and its a matter of taste. Most people here obviously like the ting of winning eleven, that doesn’t give us the excuse to curse FIFA.
All this talk about FIFA and PES converging to a point where they are picking the best things out of each other is kind of a moot argument. FIFA is and always will play like its roots, FIFA. It can tinge in and around changing its physics, end of the day it will play like FIFA… repetitive goals, snazzy graphics, crazy tricks and awesome music. PES has its roots in Winning Eleven, and even as much as PES 2008 was lambasted… you could still create moments of magic as well as you could 4 5 years ago, albeit it looked kinda hokey but it’s okay. You will miss the disco rock soundtrack when its gone.
I for one am glad the “complete overhaul” that was supposedly coming was not a complete overhaul. Because PES will always be the same. And think about that before you question it.

FIFA 09 is by far better. PES is totally arcade enough.
Does the rgion matter. I’m from the US, and I’m sure many of you are from europe. Would I be able to download and instal an option file if uploaded from a unit in europe?
The best thing out of all them is that you can add your own music. I couldnt stand the last load of cr*p.
What would I change?? What would I change about PES5? Well, PES5 is a great game, with great Balance between Defenders and Attackers.
But something that should have been done long ago was Adding New Stats, Elaborating on their Old Gen system of Stats and Special Abilities, including a Few New Stats to an already good system; Tactical Stats, Passing Stats, Finishing Stats, Defensive Stats, and a few others.
Other than that, PES has always been diminished by really bad Commentators.. it takes a lot of Realism out of the game; too many repetitive Lines time after time, not one comment keeps up with the ML season, etc, etc.. Realistic Comments are just as important as a proper Edit Mode.
And, another thing a game as PES5 could improve on is on the damn “Classic Players”.. If Konami is going to include Classic Players into the game, regardless of the Random Names, they should at the very least include their Real Faces.
It would be completely different IF the Classic Players actually looked like their real-life counterparts used to look. So Classic Players (and consequently the “PES Shop”)would be something I would like to see Improving.
And honestly, it’s just Diminishing to see that Peter Crouch haves a spot-on Face -while- the likes of Pele and Maradona have some random-cheap-looking Faces. Even if their Names remain Random, their Real-Faces should be in the Edit Mode.
Another thing that has never worked quite properly in PES5 (or PES4/PES6) is the Ground Crossing; Ground Crosses rarely work properly, always Inaccurate, too slow to be effective, etc, etc.. Long Balls and Ground Crosses is something PES can improve on, it would surely add a considerable amount of Realism into the series.
Bottom Line?? Some people do Not like the FACT that we are still in PES5, 5 years later we are more or less playing the same game. However, in all Honesty, a version of PES5 with good Graphics is good enough to keep us busy for yet another year.
So PES09, will be good, probably as enjoyable (if not better) than PES5 -but- it is Not good enough, we all Know it can be better.

pes09 should bring back what they had in pro6 where you could save head to haed matches,where the info on the game would be saved, but this was on the ps2 where you would have to use the memory card for it to wokr, they need to deffinately bring that back as it would give you more of a competition when playing wit m8s so it will keep a record of who is winning more
How do you know that Liverpool and Man U are the only 2 licensed teams. Isn’t it possible the champions league license will mean more English licensed teams?

But there’s the EDIT OPTION where you can edit almost everything and this year will be the best edit mode ever, so why complain when somebody can change the names and upload an option file, like every other PES, stop saying that there is no la liga, just edit it.
I so hope they sort out a few of the master league issues like more fouls by the CPU, more goals in non participated matches to make the league table more realistic and the league table in the proper format P W D L F A Pts GD. WTF do they display points first???
Plus a cup competition that includes both division 1 and 2 teams to make it more like the FA Cup. Also they should display the division 2 league table even when your in Division 1 like they did in Pro Evo 5. Also european matches shouls be always played at night. And they should include more generic lower league stadiums like FIFA do to make it more realistic when playing small teams. In PRo evo 2008 Fulham playing at the Nou Camp WTF!!

Now thats awesom. Thank goodness. No more having to put up with the poor soundtracks theseries is renound for.
But for me really its online play and the gameplay thats most important. Hearing there is no more lag was a sigh of relief. I pray it will be the same online.
Does anybody know when the demo will be released?
Still no ‘pitch invasion’ option this year. Or analog stick ‘coin throwing’. Damn those polite Japanese programmers! Hehe, that said for all the little improvements, i can preorder the PC version for £18 which is good value. Regarding the demo, last year i played the XBOX360 demo and it wasn’t a patch on the final PC version imho.

The players motion in FIFA are like a Hunchback or monkey. EA still hasn’t improve over that.

Playing fifa is like watching Match of the day, there so close to capturing the real atmosphere and look of football
Wheras PES feels more like football, the vast amount of ways you can break defences , shoot , and the goals you can score..
If these two games came together we could all be in a footballing heaven lol

None of this has been confirmed and propably wont be for a few weeks, but they should all be there. It’s more or less gauranteed. I’m not sure if the spanish league will have all the real team names though.
The 4 things that will need to be sorted nd i dno if they will in this or nt (feedback please)

2. bayern munich r in th game
3. gt th la liga license bak (do fifa not hav it already they hav licensed kits do they nt)

The videos of the new game looks good, however i think the players look a bit too small for the playing field.
Things i’d like to see in the new version are:
1. Live scores from other games being played in league (or tournaments) just to give it that much more realism.
2. Being able to select and control the opposition team. Able to do this in PES2008 on PS2 but not PS3 version. As long as they fix this, i’ll be more than happy. Then i can play world cups with my mates.
The licenced dont matter in PES..the edit mode lets you add badges as well as scan things so in a few weeks after release there will be guys like LFCPower who will work his @rse off getting all teams n things sorted out.

i agree that PES 2009 looks about the same to PES2008 but as long as the gameplay is great than whats to worry? people will mod it anyway..and as for FIFA, if it’s good, it’s good, i’ll buy both because my country, M’sia have the cheapest “original” discs in the world. But i do hope FIFA will fuel PES to go further than before and vice versa..i love competition..unlike my stupid government..haha..jk..i dont want to die yet…haha
After buying FIFA 08 some months ago i must have played it about 4 or 5 times and I must say, I did not enjoy it at all so I went back to PES2008. But after seeing just how excited every one is about the I am a legend mode being included in the PES2009, I decided to try out the FIFA 08’s be a pro mode.
I did not enjoy being able to just controlling one player, it was boring and limiting. May be I should just wait for PES2009’s I am legend version, may be its different.

anyways.. i have also another question the edit mode on pes 08 really sucked i wanted more uniform options to make the game more realistic and it didnt really work as i was hoping the soccer shoes had little and poor options also messed up with the mode that pro evolution 2007 had the qualifyn matches for the world cup that had fun and in pes 08 didint have it but the thing is that for ps2 had some mode called international tour something like ..please i havent read much of pes 09 and maybe some of you guys who probably have alot more information could help me out… thank you very much~

i gather that Spanish league will have all real player names kits club names..they are changing their name from la liga to something else this season..so fifa have the rights for the league name only not anything else..it will be called Spanish division 1 i think in pes 2009..but we will have the real names of clubs players also original kits//only thing we don’t have is the real league name ..i hope i helped you =]
tell you the truth, i’m a little dissapointed with the initial looks of PES 2009. i had a friend who defected to FIFA08. We were talking about PES and FIFA, he said that, tell you the truth if gameplay sucks, whether the graphics look like the hands of the gods handiwork, it still would suck, he looks forward to a game that is easy to pick up but give that intricate football flair that made us love PES as a whole…once upon a time. My friend and i agreed that if PES can regain that one magical moment once again, EA will be sweating in their pants. PES09 may or may not do the trick but if it’s easier to play than screw it, i would love it. Not to say i hate a little difficult moment but if it’s too difficult like pressing X X O O and UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT and jump out of a flaming building while doing your taxes just to do a feint would suck so bad. My friends and i including Mister FIFA are waiting patiently for the game to come up. Btw, we are not some PES fanboys, we go with the best gameplay for that moment. what i really love about PES is the editing mode, i love the idea that i can place a carbon copy or 3D version of myself in my favourite team and look like i was part of the team. FIFA have the editing features but it looks like crap. I’m that kind of guy that likes a little of editing in my games like Sims, creating them, killing them. haha..

i dont know if you guys noticed something on this pes 08 version that for example when u play with brasil against argentina WHY THE HELL ONE OF THOSE TWO TEAMS WEARS THE AWAY UNIFORM WHEN IT NEVER HAPPENS only on friendly games you get to choose but when u are in a league or cup mode games you never get to pick how do you want to play.. not like in the old versions when u could even mix the uniforms… im sorry if its a silly question it s just like i am really into making the game close to what we really see in real life i know that most of you get my point and know what im talking about.. can someone tell me what teams and national teams come with the license kits?
