In The Red 22/08/08

This is what was unfortunately not posted last Friday for me, although now I’m a little more knowledgeable about the blog-writing software, it shouldn’t happen again!

Introduction

Hey guys. I’m currently at Reading Festival so I’ve only had until Wednesday night to write this column. This is the second edition of my ‘In The Red’ column, and I’d like to thank you for all of the [almost all positive!] responses from last week’s.

New season

So, the new season has started, and with a 4-0 thrashing of Pompey, Chelsea are looking good. It’s obviously early days, but with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool winning their first matches, and United not playing as well as they would have liked against Newcastle, I can’t help but think it’s quite obvious that there’s going to be the ‘Big 4’ divide again this year.

I am going to talk about the England League season as it goes on and on, and for those of you who didn’t like me focusing on Liverpool in the last edition, I apologise. I was only trying to raise a little discussion about the influence of boardrooms on the football pitch, and talking about Liverpool every week is something I am not going to do.

New ideas for PES

The thing I’ve come to realise whilst getting older and watching England League football on Match of the Day (no season ticket for me…), is how defences can’t afford to let strikers have even two seconds of room outside of the box, otherwise they might find themselves in a lot of trouble. I’m not even referring to the big name players such as Rooney or Lampard, but any club striker really, such as Dean Ashton or Heskey; obviously, still big names in their own right.

I was thinking whether this should - or even could - be incorporated into Pro Evo? Maybe if a forward manages to turn past a midfielder, setting the ball up for a long range effort, the shot could be a little more accurate?

New ideas for PES are always welcome, and I hope you don’t mind me sharing mine occasionally.

I can’t remember who responded somewhere saying that a ‘PES petition’ should be created and passed onto Konami. I thought this was a good idea, but surely this petition wouldn’t work? Everyone has different ideas about what should be incorporated in Pro Evo ’09, just as everyone has different music tastes, so maybe in this petition the best we could hope for would be a list of general ideas and opinions?

The Contract Debate

With the Cristiano Ronaldo debacle this summer, it’s made me think about the loyalty of players, and the ability of big name players to almost force their managers to sell them. They don’t seem to realise that a contract is exactly that, a CONTRACT. Maybe CR should have thought of his wish to play in Spain before he signed for United. I don’t think there is going to be a way around this really, apart from managers standing up to players who try to do this, so I wholeheartedly applaud Alex Ferguson… however much it pains me to do so!

This week’s ‘column’ is a little shorter than I would have liked, though having had to finish it before Thursday, I was a little pressed for time! As always you can email me at francis_newall@hotmail.co.uk and comments on your preferences to what I talk about, whether you liked it, or just general comments on the article, are all very welcome.

Thanks,

-Francis

    good post francis

the ‘pes petition’ sounds like a good idea if the fans could implement the ideas on to paper and Konami could take a look at what the fans want we could see better future pes games. as its a fans game maybe someone ought to talk to the heads guys down there see if we could make this happen?

we need more pro evo news hopefully the next few weeks we’ll have all the details we need. i heard on the 29th of august we will deffinately know about the edit modes, licensed teams, champions league, online, music, etc due to the first official preview in PSM3. so Konami are going to spill the beans.

  3. ? Says:

Im craving news! im actually playin pro 2008 more than ever now, jus to give me a fix and feed my addiction, and yes, thats exactly wat it is, an ADDICTION! GIVE ME NEWS! PS. the petition thing sounds good.

  4. john4 Says:

Pah, it made me laugh when some supposed “pundit” said C ronaldo was a slave, what a dick head, slaves dont get paid a penny let alone £120,000 a week, damn try telling some black guy C Ronaldo is a slave to his contract at Man U, i would hope hed give you a right hook! can anybody remember who said that?just googled it, apparently it was Sepp Blatter.

kudos to Martin O’neill too, Liverpool thought coz there in the big four they could have any one they wanted, personnaly i think Xabi Alonso is better than Barry, and if i was Alonso i wouldnt be playing for a team whose manager clearly doesnt respect him. also if i was O’neill id make a lesson of Barry and stick him in the stands, not even playing for the reserve, if he complained id fine him.

  5. Scottio Says:

TBH Barry is never worth the kind of money villa were wanting not when liverpool have gerrard and alonso in the midfield.
We shall see when Ronaldo is back if is heart is in it..i think his heart is in madrid!

  6. passthedutchie Says:

No matter how your teams doing, you can always count on Tottenham to serve up some early season comedy!

Do you think we could ask the league to just give Chelsea the 3 points, instead of actually playing them, in our next game? It would give us an extra week for the players to learn each others names and would save us the utter humiliation that lays in wait!

Ramos is starting to look a lot like Mr Bean with a tan!

  7. Ross Kemp Says:

I read that this Pro Evo 09 is the next gen version of PES 5, which is why i’am itching to read more news becuase i regard PES 5 as the most realistic soccer game i have ever played.

Does anyone know when a demo will be released becuase Pro Evo released there demo less than a week after fifa released fifa 08 on marketplace. Which means to me, we should expect to see a demo shorty after the 12th sept (fifa 09 demo date)

Big Thank you to all who created this site

  8. chaos Says:

    Hi,
Ross Kemp, Konami said, that they would release their Demo in the week before the launch of the game. So I think it will be Octobre, in the first two weeks.

Nice idea, the petition. Would like to see that become real..

    PES FOREVER HA:D

  10. Si Says:

passthedutchie get a life idiot. Im a spurs season ticket holder and yes we have been crap in the last 2 games, however idiotic, we beat chelsea in the final and drew 4 all in the league. We will never lay down and die for the chelski scum.

Get a life and support your side rather than slagging them off.

  11. Rossco Mcqueen Says:

I like the sound of this last paragraph -

‘We’re delighted with how PES has improved over last year’s game. In many ways it feels like a return to the series’ roots, with slower gameplay, harder AI and more emphasis on build up play and killer through balls. It still feels very much like PES. This may well disappoint some fans who listened in earnest to ‘Seabass’s promise of a “complete overhaul”. PES 2009 is not series reboot. It looks similar, feels similar (but better) and two games are still never the same - the best thing about the series. “We’ve stopped worrying about what FIFA’s doing and started concentrating on what PES does best,” said our smiling Konami representative. Good decision, Konami. ‘

  12. Rossco Mcqueen Says:

i didn’t realise EA had the license contract til 2010 does that mean there’s a possibillity pro evo could take over the contract if Konami forked out the cash. i bet this debate kicks off big time in a year or so

  13. Chrisze Says:

did konami ever explain why they decided to take off the option to change the kit combination b4 a match. i used to love that you could change Man utd shorts to black sometimes.

  14. Anonymous Says:

yeh good point chrisze. i always wondered that aswell. by the sound of things pes 2009 looks much better while fifa looks equally good. i prefer pes but must admit to playin fifa 08 because of the unrealistic goals an slow down wiv pes. I dont like the ppl who are writing pes off just based on some videos. wait till the demo comes out b4 u start sayin stuff like pes sucks an i’m buying fifa etc

  15. ? Says:

Yeh i agree. I love pro, but i admit that i will be buying both again this year. It was nice to hav both as they both hav strong points. I think fifa is a better game than it was 2 years ago without a doubt, and i like it because it has championship, league 1 and 2 etc. As a fan of Cov it is nice to play as them in manager mode which i enjoy. Pro is a hardcore football fans game who appreciates gameplay and experimentation. So owning both this year is not a crime. I suggest that people just keep there options open, and dont be tied down to one preference. Enjoy gaming!

  16. passthedutchie Says:

    Si

Have you had a humour bypass? My last post was obviously tongue in cheek, lighten up fella!

After supporting Spurs for the last 31 years, I think I’ve earned the right to be a little pessimistic about our chances. I’ve seen false dawns come and false dawns go….. Roughly 31 of them!

On a more serious note, can you tell me why we keep buying attacking midfield players? This is clearly not an area we are weak in, so, what is our signing policy at the moment?

Seems to me that Ramos thinks that we can simply out score other sides in the league, well, without Defoe, Keane & now, I suspect, Berbatov, we will not. Apart from, what was, a magnificent League Cup triumph last season, all Ramos has done so far, is preside over the dismantling of one of the best strike forces in the Premier League.

    Season 07/08 Berbatov, Bent, Defoe & Keane. 08/09 Bent!…. Oh ****!

I know people take their support for their teams very seriously and maybe for you it’s life or death, but, restrain yourself from calling people idiots simply because they do not share your view, it does you no favours.

  17. Si Says:

Clearly it is an area we were weak in my friend. We have always lived on attacking midfielders. Jenas is an attacking midfielder, however the addition of others is always welcome.

You forgeting bent, a class stricker if he has a class partner. No one can judge the guy on last season as he never had a long enough time on the starting line up.

  18. Si Says:

passthedutchie - Forgot to mention, your views are on an idiot. Your the one using verbal tongue and cheek.

If you supported spurs for 31 yrs you would know our history, our potetial. Ive a right to voice my opinion, as i see the spurs week in week out, home and away. Not some nob reading the back of the sun, and listening to five live. Let me guess you’ve phoned five live to have a moan. IDIOT

  19. passthedutchie Says:

    Si

Shame you have so much trouble explaining in English. You really shouldn’t use the word idiot!

    “Class stricker” LOL!

  20. Si Says:

    passthedutchie,
It amazes me that i did not see it instantly………..your an idiotic Gooner.

    Amazing, restrain yourself gooner.

Perhaps you need to go and see a game live, i tell you what goon, ill send you 2 free tickets. But remember they will be for spurs and not the goons. IDIOT.

  21. Edgarheed Says:

Oh my god. Just passing by and reading this, Si you really are a true bell-end. How old are you, 12?
