PES Off! 4th September 2008

Thanks to FIFA we have a big shift on where attention is focussed on PES, (and I don’t mean it politely).  Once upon a time, we couldn’t care less about the presentation of PES games, or care about the peripheral elements that make up the game.  We had PES on one side which played the beautiful game, but was rough around the edges (some might even say very, very rough edges, if not razor sharp), and on the other side we had FIFA which looked the part but couldn’t deliver in the gameplay department.

The FIFA series focussed on style over substance, and was marketed strongly as a more rounder package to appeal to people who wanted to be sold the whole package, not just a bare-bone football game.  FIFA traditionally played a poor game of actual football, but people felt that they were playing a game with a higher production quality.  This made people enjoy the sport a little more on console format.

With presentation and licences being at the heart of FIFA games, the introduction of steady improvements to graphics, and radual borrowing of gameplay elements from PES, has slowly grown FIFA2009 into a real contender for the crown of top footy title.

This year’s FIFA is being marketed as being more realistic because player’s physicality is key to tussles for the ball, s well as now paying attention to body/ball position when taking shots at goal.
This is something we have always enjoyed on PES, and again shows how far FIFA has come along emulating PES.

Over the course of the past couple of months I’ve seen the sorts of issues people have with PES, and I have to say I can’t agree with some of the types of improvements people would like to see.  Of course, I’m not trying to say only my suggested improvements are right, and all other suggestions are a waste of space, but I’d like to discuss the types of improvements which I think are detrimental to PES.

For example, I really dislike all the focus on the crowds the game is getting.  I don’t see why people can’t see that by rying to create a more lively crowd, with them bopping away or whatever, with more realistic animations etc, we’re making Konami shift its focus away from the core game.  Personally i couldn’t care less if the view of the action only showed the pitch in outerspace.  I want to know Konami are focussing on improving how the pitches are used during the game - where weather conditions actually affect ball physics and therefore gameplay.  I want more focus on player ovement ranges, with no more of these 90 degree turns players make.  Time is taken away from these types of crucial areas for improvement to focus on making the game prettier to compete with FIFA.  Let the competition worry about PES, not PES worry about the competition.  Yes the PES package could do with tidying up a little, but not at the cost of functionality.

Do we really care if the same flat 2D bloke makes up the entire crowd??
If the next FIFA game bragged about blokes in the crowd now going off for a pie, or going off to have a shite, are we really bothered??  Where is the majority of our playing time focussed?  The answer is on the pitch - and that’s where 90% of effort should go.  The remaining 10% should be taken to improve game playing modes - i.e. Master League, Scenarios, training etc.

Commentary again is something that gets a lot of attention - again, if it means extra time spent away from the game engine - then I wish they’d stop paying it more attention.  I swear the game is better with commentary you don’t understand.  I normally have the commentary set to Spanish because the commentator sounds a bit more animated.
Plus there’s only so much of the inane, behind the play commentary you can take in English.

I hope I can generate some healthy debate with my points above, so can we please try to be civil with comments to one another?.

Incidentally - will people still be playing the Master league mode much?  With the advent of online gaming, is the Master League still valid?  I know I will probably play the mode, but PES online is now the heart of the game.  I can’t imagine trying to play the game offline on my own much anymore.  Anyone else share my view?

And finally, is it just me that stops playing PES around 6 to 8 weeks before a new release??
I like to starve myself of PES until the new one arrives for an extra special dosage of the beautiful game…

Thanks for reading.

Well, nice article, i’m with you regarding the crowd, who cares, focus on gameplay, and for what i have read Konami just did that, and about the ball physics, WENB team say that it feel different when you play in rain.

I just sold my game two days ago, since i will never play it again, and just like you, no football for about a month to get all excited about PES 2009.

  2. sidbassman Says:

just make it the same as ps2 gameplay with better graphics and usable edit mode kits allowed online with a league and cup option and it would outsell any football game ever.

  3. sa'ad Says:

Agree with crowd issue - 100%
Agree with commentary issue - 99%

Can’t say agree with the Master League issue though. But that’s probably because I haven’t played online as of yet (I fear the slowdown monster, to even try). I love the thrill of making my team and playing against the big AI teams. If online keeps up the same fun, then I would agree with your point.

GAMEPLAY is everything - SUBSTANCE!!!, I don’t play games for graphics - period. One enjoys a real game by interactive experience with the game - the level of control and realizing the dream in being the character - PES always done this well (may be not PES2008), and FIFA did not.

  4. sidbassman Says:

I agree they should focus on gameplay and not pie eating crowd members. This is goin to be the third outing on xbox 360 IT BETTER DELIVER OR ITS BACK TO WORMS XBOX LIVE FOR ME ive played pes since snes days.

  5. sidbassman Says:

and what is francis in the red about. he should be sacked if he asking people to say what they liked about pes 2008 you know ya pes dont ya francis you aint got a clue

  6. mikeyoballsacker Says:

i totally agree except about the master league. it needs to be just like sensible world of soccer’s career mode. (or slightly close to it).
online play is great but i think people want to do a season, win the premiership, the champions league, the fa cup (one leg only, Konami, one leg!) buy and sell players, get job offers etc.

Well that’s what i want anyway. anyone agree?

  7. chaos Says:

    Hi,

I agree concerning gameplay, but I disagree with the crowd.
Of course, gameplay is the core of the game. But if I play PES2008 on my ps3 and my 37″ TV, I am really annoyed, if I see the crowd. 16×16 pixel sized 2 dimensional CRAP. That is no crowd, not at all! Same with Fifa btw. Next to gameplay, I emphasise atmosphere. And that disgusting audience doesn’t raise any atmosphere. The fact, that you can upload your own chants for the crowds is a very good aspect to raise atmosphere :-)

  8. bushy Says:

I agree in general with the idea that it is the core gameplay elements of the game that should receive the most attention. After all, as stated in your article, it is the gameplay that has generated the fanbase that PES enjoys. However, I think that in general the improvements in gameplay with each iteration of PES are pretty incremental. It is natural for a company like Konami to try and increase the fanbase of their product and this is where improvements to graphics, crowds and licencing will help - Konami are after all, a business. The key is to introduce these aspects without jeopardising the elements that have got PES where it is today- the gameplay. Personally, I like to see any improvements to what is easiliy my favourite game, but I agree that from an existing fan’s perspective, our priority is the gameplay. Substance over style!!

  9. otto Says:

I agree with you ‘Mikeyoballsacker’, regarding the ML. It doesn’t look like its gong to happen with PES2009, so i look forward to PES2010 the same way as im looking forward to the 2010 world cup in South africa.

  10. ? Says:

Me personally couldn’t care less about the so called ‘rough edges’ I dont think that pro fans are over expectant. The tools are now there for konami to produce a solid game with smooth edges. Yes we want good gameplay, but all the others things like the crowd should really go without saying to be honest. I just want a game that plays well, and i hav said all along that Konami should go back to basics in terms of actual gameplay. All little details should be a normal transistion now that the game is on the next gen. So i think overall that the gameplay is a must, but the little things sre not out of the question.

  11. Stephen Burrows (Rangers till i die ) Says:

Gd article but i dont agree about fifa catching up ! ive sn the game played on a massive hd tv , yes it looked stunning ,but the gameplay was still fifa , awful the way the players move is shocking , i also have sn pro 09 gameplay and i can guarantee u wont be disapionted , dont qoute me on this but the build i saw had the full premiership , and bundesliga and the champions league and the player models are out of this world they look real . pro evo for life (ie and come on guys why so doom & gloom very rarely have i heard a gd comment on pes09, support konami and if they mess up again then start bitchin )

  12. ? Says:

I will definately be playin masterleague on pes2009. Its so addictive, and you find yourself getting emotionally involved with your team and players! When im not playin masterleague, i think how i can change the team and who i can bring in. Also, with the editing mode looking extensive, it will be good to change your teams kit and badge and sponsor. Am i the only one who changes there strip before the start of every season?

  13. ? Says:

You were sayin about starving yourself of pro until the new one comes out. I personally start playin the recent one alot. For example, i will play pes2008 for about 3 weeks until the new one arrives. I feel i should out of respect for the game. Sounds sad i know, but the fact is, i doubt i would play it again. So once i get the new one, i will be able to feel all the new differences and new touches. Anyone the same?

  14. MADMAN Says:

does anyone know if we can change what kits we want to play in, to avoid a kit clash like in pes 2008???

  15. Fat Tony Says:

All the crowd needs is emoition, you want fans screaming their hearts out in joy when your player jus scored the 90min goal which wins the cup, and the away team being outsung and booed,

  16. Jasperinho Says:

Good article. I agree that the Konami team should focus on the core, which is the gameplay, but it would be great if they also spend somewhat more time on the other stuff in all honesty.

Maybe contracting an extra few people to the development team to focus on this “non core gameplay impacting” stuff would be a good idea to improve the crowds, the replays and the menu structure wouldn’t harm? Especially, if you consider that this game sells well every year and faces stronger and stronger competition from FIFA?

I personally will continue to play the ML, but I will also give the on-line mode a go this time. Hopefully, they will sort out the lag.

Starving myself of PES is not an option btw.. I will fully enjoy my current ML until the new game arrives!

  17. Will_bcfc Says:

Thing is, ‘rough edges’ such as the appearance of menus and the selection of music aren’t time consuming things for Konami to sort out.

In my opinion, I see no reason why PES can’t sort out the menu systems to the quality of the FIFA ones, which are a lot more polished and aesthetically pleasing.

This wouldn’t take much time at all. Even me being a part-time graphic desinger could do much better graphics than the menus PES have come up with for the last few years.

I dislike the lack of attention to detail and it could be easily rectified.

With concern to the in game footage - i think shots around the stadium are very important and bring the whole atmosphere to the match.

I wouldn’t dismiss the fact that ‘3D crowds don’t matter’ at all. The gameplay experience isn’t just about the action on the pitch and that’s where FIFA is streaks ahead, unfortunately. And it’s why they will continue to outsell PES despite FIFA being a very poor game.

So, the aesthetics are proven an important factor behind a successful game.

  18. chaos Says:

Ah, well, I forgot to address these two aspects.

    1. I started playing ProEvo08 when I got my ps3 in July this year. Playing one hour/day at first, my playtime increased up to 5 hours/day :-)
I’ve become really addicted.. playing more and more, increasing playtime day by day the new pes approaches. I will definitely wait for the demo of Fifa and PES, but I am quite sure that I will buy PES on date of release. I left my “EA-TIme” behind with fifa2003 when I changed to pes5.

    2. I will play MasterLeague as well as Be a Legend, but will try the online mode, too. I was deterred from pes08s online “experience”, so I never tried it.

  19. Danny Says:

    I agree 100%

I am sick to death of hearing about the interface looks ****e, I dont care how the game interface looks but only how the game plays.
In regards to your comment about 90 degree turns, if is something I feel needs attention too!
Any level of footballer, all be it sunday league and a pint after the game, semi pro or professional dont move in 90 degree’s angle’s, 360 degree movement will drastically improve the game. This is something I have wanted since I seen a demo of EA’s basketball demo comparing the power of the PS2 to the PS3.
I dont give a flying **** about the crowd, in my opinion showing them ****ing stupid clips of them is pointless and is a waste of 2 secs of my life.
In regards to commenting, this is something I think improves the game envoiroment, there is nothing better than your team (in my case Man Utd) have a scoring chance and hearing Martin tyler scream down the TV ROOOOONNNNEEEEYYYYY!!!
But again like you said if this takes time from working on the engine, then stay working on the engine.
Master League was cool when you had no online play, but now that you have online gaming, the mode is pretty much redundant.
All in work on the game engine, build one that can be improved upon in time.

  20. the best Says:

all they need to do for me is sort out the xbox live mode to at least a par with pes6 and pes09 will be a game that never leaves my xbox.

a good career mode would be nice, but the master league is adequate, despite it being a bit boring once you’ve won everything.

multiplayer is the essence of all footy games, so if the online play is sorted out, pes will once again wipe the floor with fifa.

  21. Tom Says:

I disagree with you on the crowd thing. I didn’t fork out all that money for a next gen console to be looking at 2D crap. I agree that gameplay is the most important part of any game, but whats the point in Sony and Microsoft creating these machines when games companys don’t use their full potential? I think konami should ditch all the last gen console versions for next years game (assuming there will be a game next year).

Also, why the **** do the players still only move in 8 directions? they could do that in commodore 64 games ffs. If you want improvement in gameplay then that is the biggest improvement they can make. Football is the most popular sport in the world so why do we have to put up with these sub standard games? PES was fantastic on the ps2 but Konami need to step up to the plate and produce a game worthy of the PS3 and 360.

  22. mange ruffiano Says:

    totally agree with the priorities.

and I’m already starvin myself til the Pes 2009-release!

  23. CROFREAK Says:

I play only online and offline with my friends and that is it !! I do not care about master league… can you really compare the excitement of beating a cpu with the moment when you smash someone on the other side of the globe 6:0…… give me good online and a good exibition match …crowd, master league…menu music…yust NOT IMPORTANT !!!

  24. Simon McDermott Says:

Agree with the majority of what you said and the comments that have been made.
Gameplay is the key issue and I also think if making a realistic crowd steals time away from gameplay production, then I would take better gameplay over a realistic crowd any day.
I agree with the comments made about SWOS, I was hoping to see a career mode similar to SWOS this time out this time out, but as long as the game plays realistically then that can wait until next year.
The main area I would like to see fixed are the goal keepers. The keepers have slowly been getting more dodgy for a few years now and when 2008 landed they were absolutly apalling.

  25. Simon McDermott Says:

The recent videos of pes seem to indicate the fluidity of out field play, but I guess we wont know until we play it whether or not the game feels right again.
If you could combine Fifa’s keepers with Pes outfield play then you would have the perfect game.
I cant say I agree Fifa having better menu screens, I always find them a pain in the ass to operate, but maybe that’s because im so used to pes.
Does anyone else hate the fact that you cant use the D-pad in Fifa. This is another reason why I much prefer Pes, I cant get used to using the Analogue sticks, they just don’t feel right, does anyone else have that problem?

  26. BIRDMAN Says:

Agree with the crowd issue. I also think the stadiums come under the same catagory. not interested in the stadium design, seabass stated that they have looked to impove the stadiums this time round, i couldnt care less if the stadiums have been improved. think the 3rd kit option would be a nice addition, we all know some teams have 3 kits but only ever have 2 in PES. kit selection should come back aswel. i’ve lost count of how many times i’ve had the conversation with friends about what to bring to the game, tell subs to warm up? players dissappointed at coming off? look for other clubs if ur sacked in ML? leave clubs in master league? training?

  27. Deanosbaggio Says:

Crofreak (no.23) has said it all exactly and too the point. If online is fixed to a PERFECT NO-LAGG OR JUMPY standard the game will be a success. Licenses are a nice addition but 99% of gameplay is with friends and online…Masterleague can be sacrificed if online is perfect!

  28. mn9ajas Says:

The master league will still get my vote over the ‘become a legend’ (or whatever they’ll call it), although I would like to see it completely overhauled.

Crowd - I agree with an earlier comment about playing it on a large Hi Def screen and seeing ****e little pixel characters in the crowd. Man it looks ugly! Atmosphere should be quality in PES09 if they make it easy to upload chants etc

My personal favourite of “Sit down, Shut up!” will definitely be making it in!!

In terms of when I usually stop playing PES - Well with previous versions its usually been around the week or two before they’re likely to go platinum and reduce in price! That way I can trade it in for a good amount and always purchase it back at a cheaper price at a later date if I feel the urge. However, this year I am still tinkering away with PES08 - whether its because I hve been changing controllers and am now using a PS2 controller on a 360 (and its made the gameplay a lot better) I don’t know but its certainly helped!!

  29. mn9ajas Says:

Not to promote Fifa in anyway (as people who know me know I am a PES fan) but has anyone heard of this facility in Fifa 09 before now!!! The video was release this morning.

    http://www.videogameszone.de/aid,658699/VideogamesZone/FIFA_09/Neues_Video_aus_FIFA_09/

  30. francis Says:

Nice article this week Dougie. I agree with all of your points, it’s not the time that it takes to make a crowd realistic, but the actual fact that the power needed for that takes away from the ability to have better gameplay! It does annoy me when you see a terribly badly animated crowd, but then at least you know that more effort has been put in to make the game work.

Also with regard to the 360 motion; this would be a big step up in terms of gameplay, and I’m all for it! But wouldn’t it be incredibly hard to implement?

I don’t play master league as much as I know the majority of people do, but I am really looking forward to online play on ‘09 with no lag. I’ll probably sell all my other games if it’s good!

  31. mn9ajas Says:

There’s this one as well. At least some developers say they listen to us players!!!

    http://www.videogameszone.de/aid,657934/News/sony_playstation_3/Video-Praesentation_zu_neuen_FIFA-09-Features/

It sounds pretty cool and wish Konami would come out and say something like this.

  32. mn9ajas Says:

Fifa 09 Demo on PS3 and 360 is 11th Sept. A week today!

  33. damien_g Says:

i hope they dont get rid of the things like 90 degree turn cuz them sort of things are wat make pro better than fifa. IMO fifa is always too realistic and thats why u can neva score as good a goal on fifa as in pro.

  34. Matt Hamer Says:

Drop the Master League???! Are you insane?!

This gives the game hundreds of hours of extra gameplay interest!

  35. Starscream Says:

    Player Physics & Ball Physics

these are the most important determinants of the game play in PES. I’d rather Konami brush them up to a world-class standard that befits the new generation of consoles.

Graphics are at an acceptable level already so let’s not focus if this group of Pixels looked 99% or 90% like Messi.

Other than the game play itself, then there are the little details that would make a player go wow. Example a drink bottle placed near the keeper’s net get somersaulted from a goal attempt, that a subbed captain would pass his armband to the vice-captain etc.

I’d remember doing up a wish list for Konami but that must be buried more than a year ago..

  36. thomas Says:

Konami must create a new Graphic and Gameplay engine like EA did in FIFA 07 (yes it was a bad game but they fixed in FIFA08).

the engine is old, And they are talking for “next gen version” like it is new, but it is the same engine with some tweaks.

KONAMI MUST MAKE A OVERAL NEW GAME

  37. ht Says:

is it me or does anyone else think ‘dougie donut’ (what a name) is just a loser??

  38. Dean Says:

Small point but the nets have to be sorted - they’re the same for every pitch. They fall forward like sunday league nets on a council pitch! Not a big deal at all but something that would have been done correctly in previous iterations, just one of the many examples where Konami became a little lazy what is basically more than a game but a religion at this stage!

  39. marty Says:

having looked at fifa 09, although its got nice graphics, the animation still seems poor, nowhere near to real life, and although people say ps3 pro hasnt graphically improved play pro 6 on ps2 and see the graphics, i big improvement, and if the gameplay can be like that and the manual passing mode being incorparated we mite be in business, btw i hardly played 2008 as i thought they ruined it with the slow down

  40. Dean Says:

Also what Starscream says about little touches like a captain giving his arm band when subbed is the kind of icing that finished off the revoltionary game engine of the early ISS and PES games. What I couldn’t believe was that Fifa beat Pro Evo to the chipped penalty (Fifa 08′ you were able to clip a peno down the middle), that was the kind of touch that used to set ISS and Pro Evo apart.

  41. JJ Says:

Dean - Actually you can chip a penalty done the middle in PES 2008 mate. Done it two days ago online.

  42. passthedutchie Says:

    mn9ajas

Where did you get the controller? Sounds great. Do you know if there is a 360 controller that would work on a PS3?

FIFA do know how to stage a band stand!

  43. Rossco Mcqueen Says:

seabass mentioned the crowd and commentary being tweaked anyways so im looking forward to that.

    @Dougiedonut
what you said about starving yourself before the new release i can’t believe you mentioned that. thats me since about pro evo 3 give or take. i usually give myself up to the start of september like last year and before that to hang up my boots for that game. im currently not playing 08 and pro 5 but when 09 hits the shelfs i’l enjoy it all the more.

regarding the master league i think i tend to have an order like first i would get the game and stick it in the ps3 for the first time and go straight to exhibition for a game after this its usally edit for randoms (teams etc.) and a few games later maybe a cup/ league then get stuck into master league. i don’t really go online for about 4 months when i get the game. to me its a case of learning how the new game works then challenging guys online or putting the game level up a notch. but really the answer to the question is yes i enjoy playing the master league by myself and building the perfect squad from nothing its one of the aspects that drew me into buying pro evo after pro evo.

really good post anyways mate, good debate

  44. khaled Says:

Guys after i have seen FIFA 09 videos i must say that FIFA 09 will own pes 2009 in 80% in terms of the overall game

    hey!hey! i’m not a FIFA fan but FIFA 09 sounds like a good game….

    khaled from egypt

  45. Joe Says:

Chamipions League Licence will include all teams in that tournament licenced!

    SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

    That means fully licenced Arsenal!!!!

  46. sa4v7 Says:

this game is still multy platform, pes 2008 does NOT belong on PS3/XBOX360 because its bad in every way compared to other next gen console games, they need to use their resiurces on PS3/XBOX360 to make something really good, pes 2008 too many glitches, graphics sucks and ****iest music ever.

  47. Joce Says:

Some big news- PES 2009 demo hits the marketplace September 11th, same date as Fifa!

    http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/big-pes-2009-info-regarding-demo-dates-licensing-and-cl-mode/

    SWEET!

  48. Anonymous Says:

omg, very poor article this week! come on tell us something we dont know. it just dragged on and on and on,,,,,,,,so boring!!!!

  49. SPartan Says:

There is no reason why on next gen we cant satisfy all needs of the modern gamer. Why sacrifice gameplay 4 crowds or vice versa. Why cant we have both now? Its not a psone were talking about! The PS3 and 360 can do it, so why cant konami. I just dont see why we should be choosing what we want improved. If its in the game you should improve it!
Atmosphere actually helps you enjoy gameplay better. When the game is tightly balanced and the commentator highlights this while your fans are trying to lift you shouting “come on you spurs!”, theres nothing more satisfying. Yes gameplay is far more important than crowds but your as strong as your weakest link and FIFA sure as hell have improved their weaknesses.

  50. MS777 Says:

I totally disagree with you regarding Master League !!!!!
There is nothing better than playing your favorite team in your favorite league, qualifying for either Uefa Cup or Champions league, facing best oponents teams, receving attractive offers for your players, spending planty of time researching transfer market after a long exosting season, geting mangerial offers from other clubs, spending money to improve stadiums, facing real manager dilemas… etc. There is nothing more exciting, this is what keeps you playing the game. How much time can u possibly spend online playing other dudes without any purpous???????

  51. alex Says:

agree regarding 90 degree turns, and the master league needs a tonne of improvement - it doesn’t feel anything like a real season - apart from the actual matches it just feels like there is one team there - yours.

A few things I’d like to see:

    - at the end of an ML game you can see highlights of other games going on
    - there are reviews of team performances which can be read in the news
    - constant rumours which can be found in the news
    - real money, not points

hopefully the licensed european competition could be a step in the right direction

evening games would be nice too, with decent spotlight effects

  52. PES09KENNY Says:

Make the game like WWE SMACKDOWN VS RAW 2009 MANAGER MODE

Where we can read all the news , rumor about transfer. Real money to buy player . Player prefer some team and you can buy or can’t buy result.

Also Transfer Player ONLINE The most important for next game 2010 . PLAY Online Transfer online , Free Transfer

I hope we have Master League Online in PES 2010 OR 2011 like Adidas FIFA Online Mode .

FIFA Have it but I sure it do not deliver much

But if PES Have it for sure in 2010 or 2011 it would be great cuz the gameplay and Atmosphere is always Full of Warm Fans around the world who playing PES KONAMI.

Best Version is PES 2009 . The one to remember !!!

  53. Fat Tony Says:

Pro Evolution Demo hits marketplace next thursday!!! Cannot ****ing wait!!! ROLL ON SEPT 11th

    BTW

Thomas ur a fackin fag wiv your bias views

  54. anon Says:

crap article from a deluded fanboy

  55. simjamlmx Says:

The thing i loved about the career mode on sensible world of soccer was this. As a manager i would be offered jobs managing other teams if i was doing well at my current club. that is my only wish for any future pes games.

  56. simjamlmx Says:

and yes i have stopped playing pes2008 in anticipation of the next installments release.

  57. wintermute000 Says:

The thing they have to fix is the ‘cheating’ AI - you all know what I’m talking about, where once you go ahead the AI goes absolutely beserk. And I’m not talking about aggression and tactics, their stats seem to go up by 50% or something ridiculous immediately. You have their defenders doing cryuff turns and immaculate, arsenal/barca-on-speed passing, also every set piece ends up in the back of your net. You can argue for the sake of game balance but presently its waaaay too crude and obvious, not to mention incredibly frustrating.

Its so obvious I have no idea how it passed playtesting e.g. I have an incredible ML team nurtured over 5 seasons, you play a second division team (cup game etc.) and when the cheating kicks in their centre backs suddenly start outpacing my 90+ speed forwards.

A company has released this adaptor that enables gamers to either use a PS1/PS2 controller on the 360 or offers a full Mouse and Keyboard experience for FPS, like PC’s.

If you get one though, I’d recommend getting one of the two latest models (the Sniper or sniper+) as they are the most acurate and you’ll also need a wired 360 controller.

For more info go to: http://www.iso420.org/360/xcm_xfps_sniper_v3.0/index.htm

Not sure if there is a 360 adaptor for the PS3 though I’m afraid.

i also would rather they worked on gameplay but i 2 cant understand why we cant have both and if they did sort out the crowd they should incorparate that into the gameplay like if your losing 3 - 0 then your fans start to leave the stadium which affect the players condition and the same if your winning 3 - 0 then it should have a positive affect with the crowd chantting which will boost ur condition up and also if a player keeps giving the ball away then they start booing him when he gets the ball and it not only affects his confidence for that game but in master league it affects the next one untill he puts in a good game. i personally mainly play online and only really play the leagues and master league at the start to get to grip with the slight game tweaks then i just really play online which made for a shocking game last year i just hope there is tornaments and leagues and maybe something else online this year cause just playing ranked matches gets boring especially when your ranked in the top 10,000 you know you aint getting to number 1 so you lose interest thats why call of duty 4 has been in my xbox most of the year cause online has a variety. i have tried to like and play fifa 07 ,08 and euro 08 but there is something missing in the gameplay in all of them but they have become better as each installment has come out so i cant wait till thursday to find out whether i will get both or just pes 09

i completely agree with you on the comment that the online is now a big part of the game. i cant go on the game without going online.

    Great insights Dougiedonut!

“…I really dislike all the focus on the crowds the game is getting…” - Me too.

“…where weather conditions actually affect ball physics and therefore gameplay.” - Agreed + it would be nice to also actually see the different weather conditions during play.

“…I want more focus on player movement ranges, with no more of these 90 degree turns players make…” - Agreed, this still feels stiff even though general player movements is way better then FIFA.

“Let the competition worry about PES…” - Exactly!

“Do we really care if the same flat 2D bloke makes up the entire crowd??” - No.

“If the next FIFA game bragged about blokes in the crowd now going off for a pie, or going off to have a ****e, are we really bothered??” - No :D

“…I swear the game is better with commentary you don’t understand.” - Agreed + it would be nice if you could save this setting.

“…will people still be playing the Master league mode much?” - Yes we will, if not the new *Become a Legend* is possible to play in Co-Op mode (2 vs CPU).

“…I can’t imagine trying to play the game offline on my own much anymore…” - I can, unless Konami come up with a decent 2 vs 2 Online League this year.

    Thanks

i dissagree with the master league comment because from my experience the online gaming with pes is the worst around because pes all in all is ****

The main thing that really put me off of pes is how some players/team are ridiculous such as since when is Puyol and Terry quicker than ronaldo as the amount of times ive left them for dead an they catch up, WTF!!!!!
and the other thing that just plainly puts me off of playin on xbox live is barca and Inter milan. EVERYONE takes barca and are crap with them so they slam everyone up front, run to the byline with henry, messi or eto’o an do the old cut back and slot into an empty net, really is a major glitcha na a joke. An Inter?!?! i know Ibrahimovic is a great player but again, where did all this pace come from? just just strolls through teams. There are more things that really put me off of PES but if it were for the fact that fifa really is terrible, or fifa08 is anyways, i would have converted.
