Pro Evolution 2009
After the ‘news’ that the Pro Evolution 2009 demo will be released on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on September 11th, everyone has been pretty excited, including me. It was this news that prompted me to properly check out all of the game videos. It left me, if I’m honest, 50% hopeful and 50% disappointed. As PES fans, we seem to hype up the newest, out coming edition so much that when it does arrive, it has a tendency to disappoint, especially if you’ve been looking forward to it for half a year. Or as it seems after the release of PES ’08, over a year! Whilst I was slightly impressed with the new gameplay videos, a part of me was still expecting the ultimate PES edition, whereas it looks like a slightly improved version of Pro Evolution ’08; slowed down a bit, with some more weather effects and improved graphics. Of course I am not going to judge until I get to play the demo, and I would urge others not to either. This time next week eh…
EDIT; Please note – this demo date is the one generally accepted by the majority of people as true so far. I have to make the point that for all the people who come on this website and start slating us by saying things such as ‘‘This website is always about a day slower than WENB, do you just nick their articles’’ and such; WENB just posted a blog about the demo saying that the September 11th release date might not actually happen. Following on
Following on from last week’s article about whether games are fairly priced, I received some feedback from people in other countries which surprised me. There’s a lot of numbers in the following part of the article, but I’ve tried to set it out as simply as I can! The first comment from someone outside of the UK or US on the subject was from ‘dude’ who informed me that a game where he lived, Romania, would be around $55; the same as in America. But it is here that I realised how much of a difference the daily wage makes; in Romania, it’s around $10 (£5), whereas where I live in the UK, is around £40. So whereas ‘dude’ would be spending almost two week’s wages on a single game, I would be spending one day’s.
It’s the equivalent of me spending £320 on a new game. In my naivety, I didn’t really think games could be so expensive, let alone more.
Then ‘Jorge2112’ from Brazil also put his two cents in. Over there, a new game costs around $135 (£67). And their minimum wage is $280 (£140) a month. That’s $70 a week, or $14 (£7) a day assuming it’s a 5-day a week working culture. This means that for every 9 and a half days he works, he’s able to afford a new game. That’s the equivalent of me paying £380 for a new game.
Jorge then went on to say that piracy was obviously rife in Brazil, and that a pirate game would be around $6-12. It’s this which makes me completely understand piracy in other countries.
My opinion is that games in the UK and US are fairly priced, and although the companies make huge profits, especially from the big games, they could easily raise the prices and we’d still snap up their games. A day’s work for a computer game doesn’t really seem to me to be that unfair. However, with it not making business sense for the retailers to price their games at the same ratio for other countries, I can see how piracy and frustration grow in other countries.

It wont be a FLOP, id be willing to bet much on it. However i dont expect a revolution until the 2010 edition, with that said. PES 2009 will be awesome no doubt. I notice you said the gameplay videos werent impressive and i agree. But you have consider two things.
1) The video with seabass talking was awesome. The gameplay in the back looked very good and graphics very sharp. The pitch looked outstanding.
2) Basically all of the videos ( except seabass;s ) are from the Leipzig demo, which is not the build that all the playtesters have played.
i will be purchasing pro evo 09 on the release date reguardless and if the stories are true about the demo being released on the 11th sept does tht mean people with a ps3 will see the demo the week after due to the PSN updates on every thursday.
The Big Question is a simple answer francis, PES 09 will be a success because it will be an improvement and a much better game than PES 08.

I’d like to comment on the thing you said about companies selling games to different countries at the same price. If a game was cheaper in Brazil just so the minimum wage could afford it, then imagine…No one would wan’t to buy games at higher wage countries. They would just have them shipped from Brazil. Anyway, this is what happens with everything we buy these days. Why do you think all our Computers are made in Taiwan. They make them in a cheap countries to save millions of production fees and then sell them at way more than their actual cost. That’s right. The world is a ****ed up place.
PES 09=PES 5 in HD. Not good enough. Wheres the overhaul that seabass promised. I will wait for PES 10,but if its still last gen than I give up on Konami.

You are right, Fifa is same old Fifa, and the only company that could make a soccer game that could be a threat to PES, is 2K Sports, but i don’t see that coming, not close, so, yeah, Konami has the upper hand, unless EA can out do themselves for 2010.

2k sports is garbage bro. Every year I wait for hockey and soccer and always by pes and ea’s nhl series. For the last few nhl 2k has not been up to par. Same with this year since I already got each demos.

Hi, if you want more information, here in Colombia where piracy is practicaly the only way to be a gamer..
Next gen game is about.. US$70-90 depending on the game, and if you want to do the math.. minimum wage here is for about US$200 - 240 a month.. I recon that i have been happy for piracy, kinda disappointed for the lack of ps3 piracy actually
themass. what about top spin 3 by 2k. Sure the game can be difficult to start with,but its coz its deep and becomes rewarding when you master it. Its like pro evo of tennis. NHL 09 will be kick ass,the only true quality sports sim by ea.

Now I’m stuck but I see FIFA making way more progress. Here in the US FIFA rules in sales so its hard to find live oposition to present a challenge. If the online mode isn’t up to par I’m done with PES until its rectified

**** off ya twat every1 has different tastes , its just true football fans that like pes because of the realism . pes 2008 did have a few faults but i think its still the best football game on the market at present , fifa has a few nice touches but the gameplay is garbage . to slow and the first touch of the players is retarded and after watching so many gameplay trailers the only thing i can notice that has changes is improved graphics and same old gameplay but a touch faster . ill will still buy it and give it a try as i always do . so dont say i dont give it a try , i bought fifa 08 on the ps3 on the monday and returned it on the tuesday and im expecting the same from fifa 09 Pro Evo 4 Life
CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM WHEN THE PES 09 DEMO IS OUT. BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT STORRIES FROM EVERYONE.
Why doesn’t everybody stop trying to compare FIFA and PES. They are different games which both have their pros and cons. I will be looking fwd to and hoping for 2 great games with 2 great and different experiences.

Actually a big fan of PES, but after such a ****e game last year I gave FIFA another try and was well impressed, and Euro 08 even better. So now am looking fwd to much improved PES offering, as well as by the looks of it a very promising FIFA 09. I think FIFA will take over this year, has made huge strides and PES are still living off the glory days of PES 4 & 5. Still think this years PES wont offer a true next gen experience, yet FIFA 09 will. My opinion, you can agree or disagree as much as you like. I hope both games are superb but different, then we have 2 great football games to play on for the year.

Not god enough IMO. For the amount we all shell out year after year on these games you would think Konami could attract fully licenced teams?
I fail to understand how When playing the CL mode we can have Arsenal and Chelsea strips and badge but when playing ML and exhabition we have London Red and blue ?
And why has the CL not been included in the ML that would make so much more sence and finally make the ML a bit more interesting ( since it has not changed in years).
It seems to me Konami are just doing the minimum they can get away with thinking we will just make PES 2009 what Pes 2008 should have been and they will buy it…which no doubt we will. People are already satying we are waiting for 2010 to see the new gen PES..but IMO thats a load of rubbish..why should us fans wait 2 years for konami to do something they should have done in 2008.
Fifa used to be a joke amongst the hardcore footy fans but i hear and see more of them turning to the new gen fifa day after day.

I think Pro is destined to be a flop again this year to be honest. I was well excited when I heard the Champions League being included, but then chucked back down again when I heard it werent gonna be inluded in the ML mode. Who can honestly say they play any of the other tournament modes on the game?? so what makes Konami think people will wanna play the Champions League mode over and over again. It was a pathetic idea. Only reason they incuded the poxy mode was so the fat cats at the top of Konami could fill there pockets with helpless consumers money. I am sick and tired of PES now… Considering I have played the franchise since it was on the N64 then converted to PS1 and so on. I have been waiting for a complete game far too long now, I don’t think my patience can take much more. I think i’ll be gettin FIFA aswell this year, cos I thought last years FIFA(08) was a half decent simulation & a a vast improved game from when I last ever played it… think it was fifa 05 or 06. Least they are improving the gameplay every year & adding new teams, leagues, kits, licences & stadiums. Where is Konami’s input with this?? **** all, they get rid of more than they put in, even the ability to change what kit you wanna wear before you play so the teams don;t clash.
I aint keeping my hopes up this year like last, I know most will probably think there is nothng solid to base my points on, but then again, there aint no proof to suggest otherwise either.

I hear alot on here saying pes owns fifa , but there is no proof of this in the last year..almost every game site rates fifa higher (not because its closer to football) because its a more improved package than pes.
Konami have had a few years now to get used to the 360 and ps3 and dont seem to deliver on it..while EA seem to build on it each year

Anyone else stoped playing both games yet ..i traded both mine in and pre ordered pes and fifa for 25 quid (including games)which im happy about seeing i wont play either game when both new editions come out.
Neither game will flop and neither will be a clear winner. All improvements on both will ensure both are well received by there fans. I will buy both as will many of you by the sounds of things. This will mean more copies sold overall and more revenue which will mean better editions next year. Yes Fifa has made much more improvements over the last year or two but it needed too. Now that its really close between the two, we will now see who is serious about being top dog and who is happy just having a faithful following.
I always compare Fifa to Chelsea and Pro to Manu. Chelsea have come from nowhere with lots of cash to be a league and cl contender year in year out. Their gameplay aint amazing but they get the job done and you cant doubt their ambition. Manu have been there for the past 10 years with a true picture of how football should be played. Yes they have a few dodgy seasons but you know they will always be there or there abouts no matter what changes in there side.
Who will win the league this season is as tough to call as which game will come out on top and it might come down to goal difference!(Which you could call personal preference in the gaming world.)
Now some PES sites are saying that the demo will be out 3 weeks before the game realeases aka 26 Sep!? which one is right?

If you have ever played the game of football (soccer to americans) then you will really be able to appreciate PES. Fifa is nice with all the licenses, but PES is 100% more realistic game play. However, the last one i played was PES 4 i think! Was PES 08 at least as good as PES 4? I have just got a PS3 and am waiting for PES 09.
Dean if you are telling that PES has more realistic game play you have no idea what football is.

The site(s) i checked did say that at first too, but then they called Konami and they said the demo would be out 3 weeks before the launch.

PES was the last one i enjoyed on the ps2 , the ps3 version of 08 was a big disapointment.
09 is said to have PES 5 gameplay speed so its not so fast and arcade like (like 08).
I would still go with the 11th untill Konami says otherwise on its site
Well, themass answering your question, I usually play 10 mins on ML and Leagues, 15 mins on Tournaments and Exhibitions with friends.
On PS1 times, I played all games on 30 mins, i enjoyed those times more, not for realistic but just for fun actually.
That’s one thing I miss from either FIFA and PES, playing for fun. I enjow realistic gameplay, but I truly miss bizarre game modes like playing on a closed field when the ball never stops, or a simpler 5 vs. 5 game.

hey guys, i think PES09 would be successful if gameplay is good. let’s face it, i think thats the main reason most of us initially loved the PES series..it was the fact that it felt so realistic and fast (excluding PES2008), i may not be a big fan of PES2008 but i still felt that it was playable. As for PES2009, i forsee it being a PES2008 version 2.0 kind of thing, where as FIFA09 will be a slightly improve version of FIFA08.oops out of topic.
Some may complain there is no license for PES2009 but there are so many modders out there i just dont see the point of complaining..I’m not a PES fan boy or a FIFA fan boy but i had enough of big corporations like EA taking advantage. i’m for the under dog..so long as the underdog knows that it needs to improve their product.

Dont know how true this is but according to proevonews.co.uk, Knonami is releasing downloadable content on the ps3 and xbox in Feb 09, this is probably to do with the Jan transfer window. This will be chargeable.
Also it seems that it won’t be this thursday when the demo comes out. Hope this is not true.

If you havent ever tried FIFA/EURO 08 in next gen version you have no idea what real football is.

pro evo is more of a simulation than fifa. fifa tries too hard to be a better game and fails. all the guys on this site know that. the only thing that fifa has got which pes aint is licences but that could change in 2010.

I don’t think pro Evo from 5,6 and 2008 has improved too much and am largely dissapointed in this, yet it still remains the best footy game but FIFA came awfully close in 08 if not on par with pro 2008. Come on konomi u got the game spot on in pro 5 let’s work on playability. Let’s try adding challenges I.e. Control one player and progress from lower leagues learning how to become a better player in training and adding new skills as you become more successful. Am sure a mode like this would wet anyones appitite as well as management mode or historic period mode hope 2009 and the future brings me what I wish for.

At Fat Tony 88. I hate to say it but everyone was jumping up and down with excitement last year from similar shots thinking that it would be video annimation but it turned out to be crappy shots in the master league main menu screen. I think that it’ll be the same again this year.
I think I will buy both Fifa and PEs this year as both have their merits
I didn’t mean swapping discs between a game u plonkers say using one disc for management mode and one for any other mode I.e. Challenge mode where u take control if one player and I’ve got well more gaming experience then u saddo’s
