In my opinion the konami guys have outdone themselves looking at this.

i must agree the pro evos are far better, but just look at what a difference it makes with full licensed kits…can you imagine how good pro evo would look!!

So what happened to the list of improvements that PESGAMING made for Konami?
It would be great if you guys could gives us an update of how many of those improvements were implemented in PES 09. It would make an interesting read.

I reckon there both hit and miss…. some of PES look good and some Fifa look good…and some PES look bad and some Fifa look bad but
fifa’s rosicky , rooney, malouda and Alonso are better than PES’s version
PES Drogba, Ronaldo, Van Der Sar, Keane, Ballack are better than Fifas…..

Lol i think some of fifas are better but in general pes has got more correct than fifa. in general, fifa’s graphics are a bit overrated but i think pes will have to change from these cartoon-like models to using 3D modelling sooner rather than later

Not being funny but fifa aint that far off.
I’ve always played pes from day one. but last night i played pes 2008 and then played the fifa09 demo and the difference in quality was striking. fifa09 was more enjoyable and realistic. everything apart from shooting is pretty decent and i would rather play fifa09 than pes08.
this makes it all the more crucial that pes get it right with pes09, because it looks like they seem to have swapped roles with pes being the more ‘fun’ game and fifa being the more accurate simulation. pes needs to get back to it’s sim roots

I think that the PES shots are way better than the FIFA ones – no question about that.
The only thing I could see FIFA does better here, is all the right team kits (well the colours is up for debate) and then Czech’s helmet. The FIFA helmet look spot on compared to the helmet I’ve seen on TV. PES’s helmet… well… – better luck next year.

To be honest there both pretty good, i think most pes are better than fifa though but there are a few fifa ones that look better, torres for example looks better on fifa, adebayour, kuyt, carew, owen and few more.

Looks like Pro have fixed their act up this year. Last season was such a dissappointment. I’m an Arsenal fan and they got Cesc Fabregas totally wrong last year. (looks and stats)On this evidence it seems like more effort has gone in to getting the players likenesses spot on. I still think they could put more effort into getting the less known players right. Carlos Vela is totally wrong this year, hopefully we will be able to get better likenesses for these types of players using the editor.
Fifa get some players spot on but on the whole i don’t feel that Fifa capture the resemblence of the players real life counterparts. Some of their attempts are very poor. The comparison clearly shows that Pro get more right than Fifa but there is room for improvement for both.
To post 30, van persie is my favourite player in the world and i can assure you he looks nothing like Fifa’s version. Pro’s attempt is better. If you showed me Fifa’s version of Robin van P and didnt tell me who it was meant to be, i probably wouldnt be able to guess…its that bad!

The funny thing is , all the fifa boys will not be able to change anything about that chelsea badge and will have to put up with it. Why do FIFA get the proper kits then make a mess of making them. Look at the newcastle and chelsea kit the bradges are not in the right place and they are just wrong :s. If you look at the PES liverpool strip and FIFA liverpool strip the PES version is far more detailed and basic a a very good likeness but FIFAs is all wrong. I just wondered why FIFA have the advantage in kits but then always do it badly? Anyone else agree?
By looking at some of the pics , the skin texture and lightning are much better in PES . Compare to fifa , I cannot say that there are not good overall , at least the jersey colors are more closer to their real counterparts.I had tried out PC demo fifa09, I really don’t like the eyes of the players.Look like dead fish eyes.This Thursdays , we will have a chance to test out PES 2009,until then we will know who
has a better players model.

pes has the players looks spot on,fifas look sh*t apart from babbel and deco. Fifas Ballack looks like Jaws from the bond movies.
FIFA wins in the skin texture department. I liked the little details like the sweat…even if it was a bit OTT.
FIFA has way too much emphasis on their normal mapping and havent spent enough time getting body shapes correct. Giggs is the most shocking model ive seen in a game. I do feel deco looks better in FIFA though, good job on that one. Gerrard, Ronaldo and Scholes are very impressive PES models and texture work.
Generally PES has won over FIFA in the player likeness department, it would be nice to have licensed kits to go with it to finish it off.
To the day i can not see why people say FIFA is more realistic than PES in terms of gameplay, FIFA has no real tactics or movement for a start.

Infact, Chelsea’s kit has been really ****ed up by EA. Take a look at the kit, then the FIFA equivalent and you’ll see what I mean. I’d rather edit myself and have a crap final product than it look that bad in the first place.

To be fair, FIFA are trying new nex gen techniques to create realistic models, obvious they havent been that successful but they will improve and deliver soon, where as konami keep on getting away with placing players faces on models, so its a matter of time, when FIFA’s players would look realistically superior but credit to FIFA for trying new things, eventually it will achieve its goal.

Pes has always had the better player models. they have always been better proportioned and the likeness much closer to their real life counterparts. At least fifa managed to get the heads the right size this year. Seriously, look at previous versions the heads are far too big!

The Fifa models look like they made them for EA’s game Facebreaker LOL, It’s like spitting image from the 1980’s all over again.

Babel: Looks like an old man.

Also, on the back of the players’ shirts in FIFA, the fonts are all screwed up and the numbers are really small. If they’re claiming their visuals are next-gen, they need to sort out their proportioning before making the players look good.
People say the visuals in PES are not that great, but at least the players’ body parts are in proportions and the fonts of the player names are the same as the numbers.

Being a PES site i’m not suprised at the comments but I agree with no.61 in that EA try to make a next gen game character with FIFA where as PES faces mainly look like they’ve took a picture and stuck on there. They do look good however and I do think there are some good and some bad on both and I like both games which is why I buy both every year.

I Like both fifa and Pes but i think it is half and half for the pictures, like fernando torres looks alot like him in fifa and so does babel but then deco looks better on pes and so does cech.

Because it’s more cost effective to buy one, lol =) and after playing the FIFA 09 demo (and deleting it straight away) I’ve decided to buy PES because I have a good feeling it’ll be a lot better this year.

IMO they both look ****, I mean comeon this is Next-Gen consoles and PC’s were talking about now, surely the graphics can be massively improve.
For example look at Crysis, I know, I know this is a completely different game but it pushed the Next-Gen PC’s to the limit.
So why is it that the graphics on this years PES2009 and FIFA09 look like they do last year, there is no significant improvement, just some light touches here and there. For me looking at the link showing comparisons has greatly disappointed me. I know that graphics dont make a game, but they certainly help and for me they keep going on about Next-gen this Next-gen that but in regards to these two games I feel that they are moving backwards rather forwards which is a shame!
I WONT BE PURCHASING ANY OF THEM THIS YEAR.

Danny,i too am a big FM fan however i must pull you up regarding pes09s graphics,you cant compare them to a game like crysis,most game developers will tell you its easier to make graphics look good for FPSs than footy games. Anyway we play pes for the gameplay rather than the graphics,at least i do anyway.

one of the reasons why fifa look so bad in these pics is that the pics are off the game in play and pes is off an edit mode its like the difference of in game footage and replays in fifa the difference is huge so i wouldnt read into these pics if any of you have got two brain cells to rub together.pes players wont look this good while playing the game maybe soon they will but you guys are kidding urselfs it also looks like fifa 09 pics are from a ps2

Everybody buy fifa 09, PES is just fake and unrealistic and this year’s PES game is as bad as last years but fifa just keeps getting better and better every year.
It’s funny the way FIFA Fans say that “FIFA uses 3D modeling.. have better depth” -whereas- PES Faces are just “Pictures placed in blank Faces.. and have no Depth”.
It’s funny because, How about FIFA?? Doesn’t FIFA uses Different Graphics between Actual Gameplay and Cut Scenes?? Isn’t this cheating?
And If “FIFA uses 3D modeling” -then- what is PES using?? 2D modeling? I don’t get the Point.
Fact of the matter is, FIFA Faces look embarrassing, not one player looks Convincing, they look too Plastic-like, they look Disproportioned, they look like Cartoons.
Plus the FACT that every player feels the Same in FIFA.. wich is Plain Unrealistic -And- Completely Ruins the Essence of Football, wich is a Collective Game played by DIFFERENT Individuals.
How can you have a TEAM when all the players are just as Effective in every Position??
I don’t know about FIFA09 being on par with PES in terms of Gameplay.. But PES has definitely caught up in the Graphics.

Pro evo looks better but…
I played the FIFA demo and the players looks awesome in the cut-scenes and close-ups. You can see veins, tatoos even scars. The Pro-Evo models seem slightly cartoonish in the gameplay screens.
There definite hits and misses from both games, I just want the complete package to looks and play well.
everyone is looking at the pictures with “pro eyes”. Im am also a pro fan but try to be a bit objective. i think that some of the players are better done by konami and some are better in fifa. its a very tight competition, but everyones acting like pro is 10 times better looking and thats defenently not the case. grow up guys!
PES is generally better but of course some of FIFA’s are better such as BABEL but FIFA’s ROBBIE KEANE is awful.

Its really painful when comparing the 2 in terms of kits, the licensed kits look so much better than PES defaults of about the past 2 years

First of all I prefer PES as a game.
However these comparisons are disingenuous because we are only comparing face on- of course a virtual photo of a player is going to look better than a model trying to replicate a player. PES players only look good face on. In fact they look bloody awesome, but are people forgetting what some of the same players look like in other screen shots from different angles?
When playing the FIFA demo I actually played a little game (cos I got bored) to see if I could recognize the players. I paused all the teams during game play and zoomed in on the player faces. I purposly didn’t look at the name and becasue I’m used to PES where you can recognise the player from the texture when looking face on, I also purposly didn’t look from face on. I was able to recognise 99% of players who I can name in real life. Some models have glitches but even then 99% of the time you know which player they are trying to model, which is more that I can say of the last version of PES.
For me PES08 recognition of the same players I was looking at (Chelsea, Milan, Madrid) would be about 80%.
I’d need to see PES09 characters from all angles to be convinced they are anywhere near as good as FIFA09.

Im Here All Week
I own a PS3 and for about a week of not having an HDMI cable, it works fine. Only thinbg is that if you own PES 08 the slow down is terrible without an HDMI cable. But every other game should be fine =) you just get the standard scart cable/3-pin composite cable thing (y’know, the red, white and yellow leads) with your PS3 when you buy it, you can plug them into any TV with those sockets =)

^ no, no need for a memory card..it has an internal hard drive (40 GB or 80GB, depending on which version you purchase). accesories that are needed are probably an extra controller really, everything else is preety much there.
on the topic, pro evolution have done a great job in player modelling…i think they look more realistic and in proportion to their real life counterparts. FIFA on the other hand have made the players like they’re stoned!
Why are FIFA fan boys coming on here and slating the game we love? I’d never go on a FIFA forum and promote PES, I’d probably get booted off for a start. Bugger off =)

I should think so, there’s no way they could sell the PS3 without the plug and the cable that connects to the TV. When I got mine, I also got GT5 Prologue bundled with it, which was a nice surprise. It might be the same for you =)

I know that the Crysis statement was pointless but what I was trying to say was that in the last 3 years the graphics on PES2009 havent really moved on much. I can see a slight improvement but to me this is not good enough I want to be blown away with how realistic they are and for me they dont do this AGAIN this year.
Also I know that graphics don’t make a game but they help!
@137 – Most of FIFA’s kits aren’t 100% accurate, to be honest. I noticed when playing the demo a couple of weeks back how bad Chelsea’s home kit was. It’s just like they’ve got the basic templates and placed the sponsors, logos and badges wherever they feel like. I’m not complaining =)

also i think when you ant got HD and a normal tv,you dont miss it.
but if av a HD tv and get used to it,it looks ****e goin back to a normal tv.well thats my opinion.

Anyways thers a total ov 32 comparisons ov fifa nd Pes to choose from. I have rated it as Pes coming out on top on the scores with 18 looking better to fifa’s 14. Very close but the inevitable happened. Good effort from fifa tho, very impressed.
Pes’s best model is John Terry, scarily realistic! and Fifas’ best model has to be Deco.
PS. Wtf is going on with PES’S version of Cechs’ helmet! :O
