Importing Music Into Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (PS3)

By now, most people have picked up a copy of the game. I am not going to speak to much about it here, but one of the biggest requests I have had is regarding how to import music into the menu screens and over the post match highlights. Only having access to PES 2009 on Playstation 3, I am only able to give a step by step guide for this medium. If anyone has an accurate and proven step by step guide to the process on either X Box 360 or PC, please e-mail it to me on interferingwithplay@hotmail.co.uk and I will post it up on here.
In order to create your own play list, you will need some MP3s saved on your Playstation 3 system. If you have CD’s you can easily import these using the PS3, but if you want to use MP3 files from your PC, you will need a USB pen. Simply transfer the files onto the pen, then copy them across onto the PS3. You may have to click ‘display all’ if no files are being shown when you insert the USB pen.
Create yourself a play list on the PS3’s music section. Call the play list KONAMI_PES making sure there are no spaces at the end of the title.
Import your selected tracks into the play list. You can add or take tracks away from the play list at any time, but when first creating, try and have at least 6 songs in the list. The only time people have had problems inserting music is when they have included a play list with minimal songs.
When happy with your play list, start up PES 2009 and go to the Gallery section on the menu. Then select play list editor.
Scroll across until you reach MP3, and then your list of tunes should be readily available for you to sample. To import them, simply press square, and then choose which menu screen you would like them to feature on. You can view the play lists for each menu screen by using the shoulder buttons.

the fact that the game freezes up when trying to get your songs on. sometimes it works but mostly not, the game freezes and you have to reboot. sigh =(

I cannot get this to work, I have created the play list with 30 mp3 not aac and it doesnt show up at all? Anyone any ideas? Also the playlist is called KONOMI_PES with no spaces either end.

I made a comment saying I was not impressed by the new pro on xbox. With my sister away and me looking after her house, me and a few mates got down to some pro evo slugouts and finding out that we were missing the hdmi cable we had to play the game with normal graphics, oh my god what a difference the gameplay speeds up and everything I have grew up to love in the series came back, ok the graphics ain’t as attractive but wow it’s great I advise anyone with a xbox and feel let down to try this out

It doesnt work i created a playlist called KONAMI_PES and nothing is there i have 6 songs in the playlist but nothing shows on mp3 in play list editor can anyone help?

MP3 IMPORTING HELP AT HAND, i was having loads of problems, puttiong mp3’s on my usb key by the shedloads, copying em to PS3 then putting them in the KONAMI_PES playlist, they were showing up fine on pes 2009 gallery, but when i played them they stopped instantly or played for a few seconds with no sound and when i tried to stop the track it crashed the PS3, then i decided to import tracks seperately from my CD’s, 1st of all, go to music setting on PS3 screen, and change the import selection to MP3 at 128, then rip your CD for the tracks you want, and add them to the playlist, it works everytime, gurentee’d, i have about 40 tracks on my pes 2009, rock and metal for your highlights, edits and menu’s, yes please!!

Got my mp3s on PES 2009 now… very nice. Although i still have some chants that doesn’t play properly when imported.
And it’s a shame that you can only import one chant per team… wtf… will have to compile all chants onto one song before importing then.
Other than that, pretty happy with the editing. Have changed the team names, EPL emblems and transfers myself whilst waiting for the complete option file to be posted online.
Played all day yesterday and today and I’m pretty happy with the game!! AWESOME gameplay,just the way I like it!! Shame there are still lags online though which can be really annoying…

nr18: If with the words ‘inferior console’ refering to the 360 you mean “a console with still overall less lag and generally better lightning & graphix and up ’till now more exclusive games than the PS3″, you are absolutely right, otherwise you should shut your stupid *ss comments & see a psychologist instead.
It’s like people defending cats over dogs, in psychology seen as a pure case of insecurity and low self-esteem, as people are actually not defending the cat or in your case the PS3, but THEMSELVES!
ps: nr16, on the 360 you can always play your own songs (that you’ve saved on your harddrive) in the background via the ‘360 dashboard’ during any game, so the not being able to import them directly into PES should not be such a problem.

Do not despair just yet, there is a possibility that this will be addressed when the new XBL interface goes live. The update enables installing games to hard drive, so, it may mean that Microsoft will open the hard drive area up a little.
The PES update does appear to be timed along with the XBL update, so, hears hoping.

PES2009 360 = No lag & no crashes! Sweet!
fifa 2009 won me over as everyone here knows I was a die hard pes fan but now I see pes 2009 its the same as pes 5 god damn it!!! I choose fifa 2009 for single player, pes 2009 for online and when friends come over
I can only get 60 out 275 song to show up on the game is there a limit on how many will load up if so is there any way around this
I have done this but when it comes to play certain songs that I’ve added the game freezes? Why is this?

Ive got a ps3, not got round to trying out putting my own mp3s on yet, but will give it a go as soon as the ingame music starts to grate. I actually found the music not too bad at all, specially compared to previous, crap jap pop! and the game in general, i love so far. Much easier t score i thought, specially on top difficulty with a couple top teams, great end to end action. Not tried master league with a struggling naff team, mind you!
The let down for me is online. Ive mostly lost all my games, usually due to the jerky, frame skipping crapness of it. I win the ball, then suddenly, its on the other teams foot, and there running straight thru middle a my team to score a cheap naff goal. V. frustrating!, specially when im working my arse off with possession and build up play. So my enjoyment so far is offline!
Another thing, what the hell happened to this site yesterday!?, i couldnt get on it anyhow i tried! I thought it had been shut down due to liscensing issues or something!

and the graphics on xbox without hd are amazing, I think if they worked harder on the grass and IF THE PLAYERS ACTUALLY TOUCHED THE BALL WHEN THEY KICKED IT then it would get 10/10 for me

I loaded up “You’ll never walk alone” as a Liverpool crowd chant and it was comical! The game just keeps playing it over and over again and resetting it after every game disturbance! Its bloody hilarious, but also frightfully shocking as a feature. The crowd chant addition really is a novelty not worth bothering with in my eyes. So 360 users you really are not missing anything!

Really impressed with the game so far. Game play is awesome, and in full HD it looks really good. Glad the edit mode allows sponsors and emblems to be changed, so in a few weeks it will be absolutely fantastic.
I’ve got the MP3 play back working, although I am having a problem with some files not working. Is there a set format for the mp3 that will only work? Or is it best to just rip the mp3s from CDs via the PS3 to be safe? I dont mind doing that, but if there was a set mp3 encode format that only worked, that would make it a hell of a lot easier findin songs to put on the play list :)

Oh well if importing your own crowd chants is crap then thats just another thing to add to the long list of crapness that is Pes 2009.
The in game crowd chants are the worst I have ever heard in a Pes game. When I heard them for the first time on the demo, I thought “oh well there only bad because this is a demo version”.
Then to my horror the same naff chants are in the final game.
I was going to get a usb memory stick to import my own chants, but after comment 32, I don’t think I’ll bother.
All in all the new Pes is a terrible game, someone needs to grab Seabass, slap him around the face with a big wet cod, and ask him what the hell is he playing at.
Also has anyone else noticed it sounds like players are shouting “fire in the hole” at certain points through the match.
Oh you want to leave feedback on my comment because you don’t like it? The crowd chant feature is a rushed and poorly implemented feature. FACT. I don’t care if you can hear a realistic chant; if it means listening to it restarting every 5 seconds of the game I’d rather not bother, as there is nothing more artificial and comical than that. PS -5 stars for maxim for being a penis.
To Simon. You can choose from some basic pattern chants for every team. So you can stop Liverpool fans horrendously singing “When the reds go marching in” and other ridiculous chants, but yeah I think the importing of chants is pointless. You can only import one per team and it always just plays it on a loop with frequent restarting. I suppose you could record 10 seconds of silence before the chant so it is used more sparringly, but it doesn’t play the chant for long before restarting anyway, so you cant stack different chants up on one sound file as it will only ever really play the first 15 seconds or so.

That really is crap! Why didn’t they allocate slots for placing chants in, that could be sung throughout the match depending on whether you are winning, loosing, ect.
You could have had separate slots for each of these scenarios, and these chants should be faded in and out properly. Honestly Konami must have known this feature didn’t work properly, just blandly looping the same chant over and over again is just amateurish and unprofessional.
I have read some really great ideas on this website over the past year, on how Pes could be transformed into a really classic game, unfortunately none of these people work for Konami, and they could have done a much better job than Seabass and his team, who seem devoid of any kind of inspiration and imagination what so ever.
They have ruined Pes, which is something alot of the fan boys on here have failed to see. They should tear up this useless games engine they have invented for the next gen and start again, because I’ve had it with them and I’m just hoping another company comes along and nabs the Fifa license in 2010 and creates a proper next gen footy sim, which is something we are left craving at the moment.

Wild Wazz. Find pictures of the club emblems online then save them to a USB stick. Put the USB stick into the PS3 and go to the Photo’s tab of the PS3 home menu. Find your USB stick in that tab and press Triangle, then click on display all. You should now see all the emblems you downloaded. Copy them all to your PS3 hard-drive. Now load up PES 2009 and go to the Edit mode. Go to edit team, click on emblem and then change the emblem status from Default to Custom. Now click on Create from Scratch, then the next menu import data. You should be able to select from the list of all your saved emblems. You will then have to do a bit of resizing, but once it looks good save it. If you then want to change it aftter saving it you can modify it, and erase the white parts, using the pixel paint editor. Don’t expect them to look as perfect as the Liverpool and Man Utd ones, but you can get a pretty good emblem if you have the patience.

I just assumed it would be like what you suggest, with the ability to have multiple chants employed at different times, and due to differing circumstances, ie winning or losing. The fact that it is not like this (and that it is not a feature on 360 at all) just shows how little effort was put into this feature by Konami. It is obviously just a rushed addition that offers no real benefit whatsoever, but seems like a good idea before you fork out on the game. Pull your proverbial finger out seabass and stop infuriating us all!

Post 47 and 49, i also have a quality connection, yet online has been a frame skipping, jerky, delayed, annoying affair for me. Everyone i play on ps3 has a poor ‘red light’ connection, even if before kick off it appears green. It cant be right. Must just be garbage to play online, plain an simple. My fun has come from offline play. Maybe it will be a problem that is ironed out after a while, but i dunno. Anyone with a green light connection let me know, we can have a game sometime. RobotRodneys the name, getting whupped online and blaming the lags the game! Although God knows how you look up people or add them as friends, that hasnt worked for me either.

Open up your mind mate, I have PES 2009 and I’ve played a load of games online, both legends and network, and they’ve played great. I get a little bit of lag here and there, but its an online game, thats going to happen.
But don’t just go moaning about it again just because yours has problems, it could be down to your network, who knows, just do stamp your feet and say its rubbish.
Online is great fun for me and a lot of others, so it cant be utterly awful again…
the only negative about online is that its less responsive than offline, but it is ‘online’ after all……..
dont know if anyone else has found the same thing, but after playing the real game, its feels like everything different about the demo has been scraped and replaced with everything from 2008! i love pes and always will but i am getting fed up of no chance an now the fact that in 2 years they havnt been able 2 create an online server worth of playing on!

worked fine for me first time i tried it, and i only imported 15 songs, havent had any trouble with it so far, plays just like it would on your mp3 or whatever, comes up the track names and artists in the actual game too
not too sure about the gameplay though, seems really clunky, you cant defend for your life, the goalies are crap, you cant tackle properly, its really hard to build up an attack and sustain it, but everyear i buy pro evo i dont like it at first and then grow to love it so heres hoping i do this year too

Yes, thats very true, but the point is ive played many other games online without fault on my connection,i.e., Motorstorm, Resistence, Warhawk, Wipeout etc., so it HAS to be a problem with this game/server/konami/whatever. But, all power and good for those that have had no problems. Count yourself lucky.

What the hell!!! I tried this and now pes isn’t working and it crashes my ps3 when i try to start the game. What should i do to fix this? I’m really dissapointed that the main article didn’t mentioned these side effects.

Proboy sounds like an absolute mongo with his comments. Unless he lives INSIDE a telephone exchange theres no way he gets a Full 16mb connection, nobody ever gets a full connection, thats not how DSL works and dont be a retard explaining that you do because im a telecoms engineer and have been for over 10 years.
The truth is, Konamis servers are not up to date to run with this game online.
Call of Duty plays perfectly online with far more users on screen. That game hosts an entire map with moving parts, up to 18 users in the same game and graphics to blow any game away and that runs perfectly. The fact Konami cant get a football game to run with just 2 people connected without teleporting and the ball jumping everywhere shows it is a fault with Konamis equipment and in my opinion as ive seen it before with companies who dont invest in proper kit, thier issue lies with not having enough memory in thier racks to support the ammount of users online at any one time.
Its a shambles simple as, dont listen to the spacks saying its perfect with no Lag. Simple as this, they are lying.

Servers arent perfect, but for everyone saying the game and online is just like PES 2008, its not that constructive, because its far from true..
seems a lot of mixed opitions over online connection.i myself have a 8meg connection with talktalk,have played over a dozen games with no lag and find its runnig on the whole quite smooth.
p.s. so happy with this years edition really does make me happy.!!!!!all you people who enjoy picking the ball up with a top player and runnig the full length of the pitch,eg pes6 pes 2008 tough luck, restructure your game!!!!!

Lol, if you want to solve the PS3 mp3 problem, make sure you rip the music files to mp3 from the PS3 directly. That will ensure they work properly.
And yes, I think I’ll have a game online over my wireless network with the built in card on my console.

Ok, to neil the so called ‘telecoms engineer’ i’m not sure how qualified you are (10 years doesn’t seem to be enough for you) but the full 16 meg isn’t so hard when you live pretty close to the tel exchange where you are connected, also if you don’t have that many people on adsl+2 broadband from the same exchange you will pretty much receive a
fairly good connection…. now i’m on a 16meg package, and receive the full amount, if not more sometime when i speed check with several different speed checkers. I am told i can receive up to 24 meg but I didn’t go for that connection because I reckon i have the best value for money on my current one.
I’ve just come off playing pes on my ps3, and again the game ran smoothly, it only runs with a little lag when i play someone with a bad connection, like you probably DO.
I’ve just tested my internet connection again and wow its 15.84 meg, then again 15.90….
maybe Neil needs to look for a new profession, as he doesn’t know that much about telecoms….

the online has nothing to do with ya connection if uve a bad connection it will lag occasionally but even with 16mb speed internet players still judder an skip. pathetic effort. still decent game to play with mates but fifas better online. everyone shud buy both in my opinion
So if we make changes now will it be overwritten by the update in November? Master League and all edits and that.

Right,been playing PES2009 ON ps3 now since friday.Offline great,the players are responsive,close you down pas accurately etc etc.The game looks great,from up close and far away.Then lets put it online shall we.OH i seem to have have got myself a bargain,two gamws in one,because the offline game has nothing to do with the online one.Suddenly the olayers are unresponsive,takes an age for the cursor to move, the defences part like moses parting the red sea,that is if there is any defence at all ,and can you believe it,once again there are certain players ,messi c ronaldo kaka eto ,ronaldihno ,adriano etc etc that once again are unstoppable one they have the ball.So someone tell me,this PES2009 we hav,according to konami ,we hav reworked the game and so on and so on,what a load of bollocks.Once again dissappointed with online.Why the f67k cant they get 22 computer generated figures to respond and act like you are playing a game of football.So Konami have had us over again and charged us for an unfinished title.Well I fear the end of the road is near for them,as the critics are going to rip the **** out of this one.Maybe they have one more crack at it.PES2010,and if that is still ****,then like the government ,the people will start voting with their boycotting of this series,although,sadly there is no real alternative,to which im sure Konami are aware of ,therefore they keep doing this to us.But every long rope has and end

online is crap on the ps3, too much lag. i have always played pes 6 on xbox live till now without any problems, you get the ocassional slowdon on the 360, but never does the ball/players disappear and appear. pes 2008 was unplayable, 2009 is slightly better. first i didnt like the new pes 9 but now im starting to like it. i just hope they can sort out the online, pes 6 is still great online, pes 9 sucks online.

the importing images onto kits and onto edited players’ faces is a laugh, its funny watching everton play with a massive of david moyes working on a checkout in a supermarket emblazened all over there shirts and having “we’re shít and we know we are” playing as there chant
also imported my face onto my become a legend created player, such fun, you can import any image onto a players face too, so ive created deformed players, im going to create a whole clan of them! but then looking at evertons team, joleon lescott in particular, i dont think there will be a need…

PES 2009, Xbox 360 vs PES3 Compression
I have now played both Xbox 360 and PES3 version of PES 2009. About 10 online and offline games each. There are some significant differences between the platforms.
PES3 version runs on 720p and Xbox 360 on 1080p and you can actually see the difference. The depth of the colours are much crisper on Xbox 360. The movements of the players more clear and sharp on the Xbox 360 again. Even the menus brighter and lively on Xbox 360. It is hard to believe there is that much difference running a 720p and 1080p games but it is true.
Being online is a very painful experience on PS3 once you are used to Xbox live environment. On PS3, let alone long registration process of the game when you play first time, every time you open the game you are waiting for connection to internet even if you don’t want to play online. And if you want to play online then you have to go through the same process again. Furthermore, I seem to get an error message every now again. Something like port problem. But it doesn’t happen always.
Having said all these things, there is one problem with Xbox 360 that makes you stick with PS3 version is: online play.
I didn’t have many lag problems on both platforms but on Xbox 360 you get these moving blurry pixel beams as a long line on the screen every few seconds when there are lots of player on the screen or when you kick a long ball and sometimes with no reason. It doesn’t happen on offline games at all. So it is surely an online problem unless there is a problem with my disc’s online mode. I suppose it is a sort of a lag. It is like a frame problem. Like the game can’t fresh the scenes or catching up with the next picture. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ON PS3 AT ALL.
Lastly, I think response time to controls for both platforms are same but surely a lot worse then PES 2008.
Do you guys also have same problem on Xbox copies?

Everybody moaning about Online play, dont you realise “Proboy” has already explained its your connections, not the game. “Proboy” (Named by his mum and dad as a potential superhero) lives inside a telephone exchange and he says its absolutely fine. All of us suffering from lag are idiots who dont understand.
Superhero “Proboy” also gets 15.9mb when he does a speedtest…….the only small problem which he didnt seem to notice is that DSL is not measured in decimal but in KBPS so it would be 15900 that his speedtest showed but when your a superhero with the power to talk pure and utter pish does it really matter??
“Proboy” also claims to sometimes achieve more than 16mb which is an amazing feat unless he pays for a leased line like companies do and has a spare 10 grand a year for the feee’s but who are we to argue?
To “Proboy” I salute you. It has been a long time since I read a post from someone in which every second word was a lie and they had the knowledge of a turtle with special needs!

i’m on ps3 and thought the online play had improved significantly but if your not in the same room as the opponent your never going to know for sure if it’s connection, the game, busy internet or whatever so i think people need to take the online mode with a pinch of salt. and anyway we all know that plaver vs player is better when it’s against your best mate on the same console and your 2-1 down in extra time added time with a corner so you throw petr cech up in desperation only for him to rise like a salmon and nod home an unlikley equaliser…………. OH GOD I WAS UP IN HIS FACE!!!!! :-)

online is a major problem, it was a problem with pes 2008 and still is with pes 2009. i thought seabass said hes gonna sort the online issue out this time????. I have played many times on the xbox 360 with pes 6 with no problems,so why do we have problems with pes 2009? this is the only game i really have problrm with online.

About the pro Online Its CRAP enough said ive played it once and the screen just kept jumping about like last years game its a real bloody shame. But i just Normally play my pals on offline so not really bothered.

Ive Sussed it ! When u make the playlist KONAMI_PES make sure there is not a space after it that cos after typing it does an altomatic space itself that u have 2 delete

No, the update will not delete any edit data. The edit data is kept in a separate file. The worst case is you’ll have to attach the emblems to the kits again, but, the actual edits will not be deleted.

In response to a few of you guys who have had problems uploading their mp3’s onto PES2009. Something I found when editing chants for mp3’s is that they need to be the correct codec of 128kbps. Dunno why this is but I found that when I used Nero Wave Editor I was able to change the codec to 128kbps & thus they worked in the game. Nero Wave Editor (or any other such similar program) is great for making the chants as you can edit the best bits (about 30-40sec is good) & add to the atmosphere. I did some great Liverpool FC ones & then sadly had to make some for my Man Utd supporting mate. I tend to change them after each match played just to keep it interesting. Very pleased Konami have sorted out the dogmuck that was PES2008. The new one with a decent update is great & for me does alot better than FIFA & any previous pes titles this time round. At last!
By the way, whilst I’m here does anyone know how to get some decent eye camera pics for the player face in PES2009. I cant get it to look any better than having a guy with what looks like an omlette on his grid. The TigerWoods09 face builder does a much better job. Also, anyone any advice on what colour & contrast to use?

I have experienced lag online with my 360. Teleporting, etc. Perhaps you might agree but the gameplay online is very different to offline in that tackling, movement, and passing is far less responsive. This is frustrating. Hopefully the November update will include improvements. I noticed from accessing the NETWORK arena that one of the announcements mentions “ongoing improvements” to online play. Watch this space.

i like many others toiled away trying to get mp3’s to show up in the game on my PS3. here are a few things i did and now have a full on library to choose from…
instead of transferring music / chants using a usb key, put the chants and music files for your menu’s on to a CD and rip them directly on to your PS3. i used windows media player instead of itunes as i didn’t know how the mp4 would react. badly i reckon!
before ripping the music and chants go to your system settings (the screen which comes up when you have no game inserted in the console) and scroll down to music settings. change the import setting from acc to mp3 at a speed of 128. my console was set to acc so it’s well worth double checking.
edit all the track / chant names to make them easier to find when in the game to save having to listen to all the files before you assign. also, it’s just better if you get the artist and track name come up when a song starts :-) it might be worth doing this on your pc before making the CD to rip.
when making the playlist it MUST be called KONAMI_PES and it MUST NOT have any spaces at the end. one way of being able to tell if it is correct is, when changing the name of the playlist, press start after entering the title. the cursor will move one to the right automatically so press back space (L1) to remove the space, and hold the start button. when the title of the playlist appears in the playlist information it should be surrounded by a box which should be tight to the “S” at the end of the title. it is quite noticable if there is a space at the end of the title.
on my console i ripped the music files last, after the chants, and for some reason it decided to put some music files in my folders with the chants in. i suggest ripping your music files before your chant files.

Does anyone know if there’s a way of making playlists for the PC version? I am pretty fed up with the crappy in-game music by now (apart from ‘Love Of The Game’ which reminds me a bit of last year’s ‘Football’ for sheer lyrical comedy) so frankly this needs to be addressed.

THE SAME IS HAPPENING WITH ME. All songs work fine but the playlist doesn’t appear in Play List Editor. I have checked repeatedly the KONAMI_PES and it is written correctly with no spaces. Do they save automatically as mp3 when you upload from CD, or do they need to be converted??

Hi,i dont seem to get my mp3 bit working to get my fans to sing during the gsme. I created a playlist called KONAMI_PES and i then put 6 celtic songs on it. Then i started up PES and went to gallery and then went to playlist editor and went to mp3 Library and nothing came up atall. I was WONERING IF ANYBODY COULD HELP ME.

Changing the subject a little. Is there away to import kits for EPL teams into the game? I have done all the logos and sponsors, I have edited all the kits as best and acurately as i could, but not the offical kits

I bought this game for my XBox 360 mainly to play on line with anyone an everyone but about 1 out of 10 games I can say that I have played without the game skipping here there and everwhere, eg. one sec. I could be just hitting a shot at my apponents goal then within the blink of an eye the ball will be in my box and in the back of my net, this is just one of the things it does it gets alot worse.
I won’t bore u basicly it’s F+-KIN SH*TE and very anoying.
O for **** sake.i cannot get these bloody songs onto pes 2009.i have thousands of songs on my ps3,iv created this ridiclulously named “Konami-Pes” file and still nothing…i mean ****ing nothing shows up in the ****ing gallery.o god,im going to break my high-def tele in anger!please someone advise me on what the **** im doing wrong.

you have to have more then ten songs in the KONAMI_PES file otherwise they wont show and poor quality converted sound files to mp3 will lock or freeze the game on the ps3,so i recommend legimate original mp3s or just get your ps3 to convert cd audio files to mp3.
Great addition to pes2009 though it certainly makes the game more personel…
