PES 2010: New Season, All New Game

Konami’s footballing legend evolves into the most realistic football simulation ever this Autumn

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced that its forthcoming PES 2010 title will benefit from the most exhaustive raft of new features in the series’ history, with every aspect of the game benefiting from key improvements. Major gameplay additions will make PES 2010 the most realistic football simulation available.

PES 2010 is scheduled for release on PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, PSP® (PLAYSTATION®Portable), PlayStation®2 and mobile phones in the Autumn, and follows months of analysis and feedback monitoring to enhance the game in every area. PES Productions, Konami’s Tokyo-based development team, has collated feedback on the series’ strengths and weaknesses via fan forums, both ardent and casual PES players and press comment, and has incorporated a wide range of requests in the new game. The result will be the most challenging, realistic and satisfying PES to date.

Konami has spent the last year expanding the development team’s numbers, and created a number of dedicated departments, each striving to further improving their respective parts of the game both in the short and long terms. Key additions for PES 2010 include:

Gameplay: PES 2010 focuses on enhancing the excitement of matches between players, making for a truly challenging experience that will constantly test the player. Intuitive zonal defending will cover spaces and players need to look constantly for new ways to attack. PES 2010 focuses on being a real football simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life. In addition to key out-field elements, goalkeepers are more versatile and with abilities matching those of modern shot-stoppers. The game’s referees have also been reworked, with smarter AI elements allowing them to make more balanced calls during matches.
Improved Visuals: PES 2010 has undergone a major visual revamp, with its celebrated player likenesses and animations now even closer to those of real-life players – including live player expressions to be depicted with an improved lighting system which differentiates between various conditions! Stadium detail is also massively improved, with the grass and other in-stadium elements finely depicted.

All-new animation and moves: Animations now dovetail into each other seamlessly, with dribbling and shots on goals worked into dribbling animations. More individual skills are also on show, including new flicks and tricks that have a definite showing on the way a game flows. Several elements have been completely reworked, with the dribbling, turning and kicking animations greatly enhanced, while there is a noticeable change in pace when a player passes a ball from a standing position than from within a run.

Match-Day Atmosphere: Crowd reactions to the on-field action are now more varied, with all new chants and cheers. The subtle difference between Home and Away matches will be reproduced, and the crowd will react spontaneously to specific situations in a game, showing their disdain or pleasure as fouls are committed and goals scored. Likewise, the commentary has been altered to offer a fresher, more concise overview of the game.

Enhanced Master League: Master League has been thoroughly renewed with the enhancement of managerial aspects, which enables users to enjoy managing a team for a longer career lifespan. Seen by many as a key contributor to the series’ success, the Master League elements in PES 2010 have been bolstered by far-ranging and vital new additions, dedicated to enriching the mode. Further details will be announced shortly.

AI: The Tokyo team has worked to improve the AI of the game, with Teamvision 2.0  implemented. Midfielders and defenders now work together to cover open space and close down attacks, meaning that cover can be provided for lower-ranked defenders. This also has the additional effect of removing soft goals, thus returning PES 2010 to its simulation roots. In terms of attacking, players can also now move several players once, sending them into different areas, opening up more goal-scoring possibilities than ever before. As such, PES 2010 necessitates a new level of control from the player. Strategic thinking is as important as quick passing, but the new system greatly opens the way the player oversees control of the team. In free kick scenarios, for instance, players can now instigate the runs of the players awaiting the ball in the penalty area.

Individual Play Characteristics: In previous PES games, the team formation has determined the movements of the players. PES 2010 introduces a new system wherein the individual attacking and defending nature of the players is integral to the way they play. Each player enjoys unique AI tied into their best abilities, and is reflected in the actions of their team mates – i.e. if a player who is known to be a good crosser of the ball is in possession, more players will flood the penalty area to receive it. Similarly, if a player is known to be good with close control, defenders will work to cover their stronger side, while lone strikers will be automatically supported by midfielders on receipt of the ball.

Strategy Use: A new power gauge system allows users to balance their strategy in a quick, but wide-ranging way before a match. Every element – pass frequency, movement, the line of defence, width of play, or the position of the front line – can be altered to match those of a favoured club: Juventus Turin are a dangerous side on the counter-attack, for instance, while FC Barcelona use width in their attack. These formulations can be altered at any point, too, with Home and Away matches forcing different circumstances on the user, as does the rigours of a Master League season.

Penalties: An all-new system has been implemented, offering greater control, placing and accuracy.

Enhanced Online: A new dedicated section of the Tokyo team is committed to improving the online side of PES 2010. More downloadable content is also planned. Konami has supported PES 2009 with the release of new licensed teams, transfer updates, etc, and this support will grow for PES 2010. Team and content updates are planned throughout the game’s lifespan. These will make the game even more bespoke to the player’s match day needs.

Konami has strengthend its relationship with UEFA and can announce it has secured the exclusive video game rights for the Europa League Licence (formerly known as the UEFA Cup). In addition Konami will be enhancing and developing the use of the UEFA Champions League within PES2010 to make even better use of the best club football competition in the world.

Further details of these new features will be released in the coming months. Konami has also confirmed that Lionel Messi will also be a key endorsement player for the new game, and will feature in the promotion and development of the game later this year

“We have been monitoring feedback and comments on the progression of the PES series for some time now, and PES 2010 will see us implementing a great deal of the ideas players have been requesting,” commented Naoya Hatsumi, Producer for PES Productions at Konami Digital Entertainment Japan. “We aim to make PES 2010 a more user-friendly, immediate experience that places the emphasis on getting straight into the gameplay for which the series is famed. PES 2010 will look better, will play better, and will recreate real football as closely as the current hardware will allow.

“The preparations for PES 2010 have been in place for some time now, with the reorganization and increase of the Tokyo-based studio allowing expert teams to concentrate on their particular area,” commented Jon Murphy, PES European Team Leader. “We are now in a better position to implement the greatest raft of changes and improvements to the series we have seen, and thank the PES community for their input.”

PES 2010 will be released for PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, PSP® (PLAYSTATION®PORTABLE), PlayStation®2 and mobile phones in autumn. For more information or assets, please contact…

    WoooooooooWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW …. Awesome !

  3. Loinerpete Says:

Excited of Leeds Here, Dare i say this is what we have been waiting for? Yep, i know, we have said it all before, but it looks like there has been a scale shift at seabass towers, at long last. I want to thank EA for the last 2 years, they have got things moving in Tokyo, Fifa will be great this year too, who is the winner??? US the gameplayer, 2 great football games, i can smell the grass already.

  4. KJ Says:

    Wooooo

  5. shoma Says:

Exited but sceptical after last two efforts. Lets wait for more screens and gameplay videos.

  6. Dale C. Says:

    Great news.

I just can’t ignore the feeling that they’ve bitten off a bit more than they can chew though :/

  7. ezekielpacman Says:

“I just can’t ignore the feeling that they’ve bitten off a bit more than they can chew though :/”

A fair concern, but they needed to at least try rather than linger in the stagnant mess the series finds itself in currently.

They’ll get far more respect from me for actually trying to revamp the series, even if it does end up a little wide of the mark.

  8. MartinG Says:

Great News, last year konami talked about pes 09 not having many major changes, seabasss said that after pes 08 there was a two year project with a new game engine etc and this would be pes 2010…Lets hope it lives up to the promises. I desperately want back the good old days of older pro evo’s!

Now just another 6 months of pes 6 and hopefully this will be the definitive pro evo!!!!!!!

  9. mn9ajas Says:

At last, it looks as if we’ll finally get to send players on runs off the ball (like Fifa)!! Woohoo! No more stand next to you and too thick to make a run presence from team mates – yes!!!

The ‘new’ strategy bar prior to the match smells a bit Fifa like with the pre-match tweaking you can do but hopefully Konami will implement it a lot better as the Fifa one didn’t really seem to make much difference.

  10. Joe Says:

If I doidn’t see this on their website I would have said this is FAKE but it seems their dedicating alot of effort into this.

    Bring it on!

  11. TheBishop Says:

Sounds encouraging. I like the fact it seemingly will be more tactical based. Not completely convinced yet but as usual, I will buy it anyway. :/

  12. wolvesfan Says:

Enough of the negativity there is enough going around at the moment

Pes 2009 was decent in places
this new one sounds great and the fact they are battling now to get it back to its best
im delighted to hear it Konami keep it up and dont let us down
i look forward to slagging all the fifa fanboys in october : o

  13. jackSMITH Says:

with apparently 200 extra people working on this project .. it seems we may finally have the ultimate pes footy title and who better than messi to promotote it again

  14. Rocket Says:

I think its about time we got lower divisions, some of us actually support Leyton Orient or Millwall. thats one of the things FIFA has over pro at the moment.

  15. Jasperinho Says:

Sounds fantastic! Too bad that they don’t mention that the Konami ID will be dropped, but I am still hoping that this will be the case..

  16. FOOTIE MAD Says:

It seems they have taken a litte bit of this and a little bit of that and knitted them together.Hopefully it will work, but glad to hear they seem to be working on the defensive side of the game as that is a major weakness of this title ,except if i can recall PES 6.I notice the online details are a little sketchy ,as there is only talk of downloadable content throughout the year,as opposed to their seemingly 10 v 10 online,or even an improved system, even though they say there are improvements.Well lt sounds promising, but I will reserve my judgement for the finished article.I’m afraid its a case of twice bitten ,so lets just see what the end product is .

  17. RickyRix Says:

Good to see the first few details of the new Pro Evo coming out. This year I’d like to see the addition of a few more national sides. Teams like Iceland, Lithuania, Macedonia, etc…..
I’d also like to see LA Galaxy included, get the Beckham factor in there, lol

  18. probo23 Says:

I agree with 14 rocket we need lower league teams but i cant see it happening. So maybe more editable leagues etc would be nearly as good!

    UTP

  19. CROFREAK Says:

It sounds great…but no preorder this time… this time they must first deliver … i love the game but online totally killed the game for me…i have not much free time so online is a must for me …online ligues and cups is a must this time ( with trophies)…I think FIFA will be very strong this time…that means we are gone have 2 good football games and it is up to us to decide which is better…PLEASE KONAMI i dont want to go to the dark side !!! I HOPE THE KING IS BACK…and not stuck in the traffic again…!!!

  20. Tom Says:

Isnt this pretty much the same crap they say every year…the only thing that stood out differnet was the new penatly system.

  21. Dunno Says:

I have to say that what i have read i am looking forward to a significant improvement over PES2009 but obviously we have to take that with a pinch of salt.

I like how Konami have stated that they are going back to simulation which says to me that they have realised that the arcadey approach from the last 2 games has not worked & are going to return to the glory days when PES was the best.

I will still be getting the game on release day as i have always been a PES man through & through but if i feel it has not evolved as much as i have hoped & expected then i will be trying FIFA for the 1st time since my PS1 days.

But the early indications from Konami look promising.

  22. Blade1889 Says:

If even half of this is true then PES 2010 should be great!!

The only thing that worries me is the quote: “We aim to make PES 2010 a more user-friendly, immediate experience that places the emphasis on getting straight into the gameplay”

I just hope this doesn’t mean they’re gonna continue to make it super fast and arcadey. We want simulation and realism!!!

  23. darknil Says:

Let’s hope all of this is true and more surprises unveil as time pass.

Sincerely, I won’t have PES2010 like last year’s release, I’ll wait for the hype to go down and see some good reviewing before I buy it.

  24. sandaweches Says:

I won’t be pre-ordering and I won’t be buying on release day. I’ve already sold my PS3 and threw away PES09 in the garbage.

It will take much more than some press release to make me return to PES addiction.

But I will try the new game when it comes out with my friends and If the game returns to the old quality gameplay (deep inside I hope so) I will buy a PS3 again.

I’m hoping that they deliver cause I miss the thrill of the old gameplay.

  25. pategato Says:

Same **** every year: “online top priority”, “teamvision blah blah blah”, “improved visuals”, “next gen engine”, and loads and loads of more lies.

  26. Gregg Says:

Latest news is that Pes 2010 will feature League 2 teams.

  27. balcik Says:

sounds great! But how about online play? Which forums have they been reading? If online play is not improved and enriched great deal, then it won’t make much diference. PES is a better game then Fifa but Fifa simply is on a diferent level on online play!!

  28. PES Says:

pategato is right. They come out with the same **** every year saying all this great new feaures and what do we get???? nothing a piece of **** game which sends the majority of hardcore pes players to try FIFA. Just like last year they will get you all excited and then **** on your face.

  29. Alex Says:

Gregg , Can We See Some Proof Maytee ;)

& I’d Love Oldham To Be In Game. Save Me Time Creating Them

  30. ash7612 Says:

since when have they said the same things every year? And when did we hear news for a PES game so early in the year at this time in April? You fools smell like fifa fan boys, the fact that they have 200 extra people working on the game means that everything they said will be true.

  31. T Says:

ash7612, this is a press release, a press release is more hype and waffle than anything else.

Wait and see the results when it’s released, I’m not going to be spending money on this until they fix the online and player movements.

  32. Yousif Says:

Pressure is there from competitors … Lets not get too euphoric … we’ll wait and see .. all the best Konami ..

  33. wolvesfan Says:

I Have to agree about the championship teams
i once played an older fifa and it was great to play as my beloved wolves

they even have the license for irish football leagues. i dont really care if the players looked real just to have the team and names and stats would be enough!!

a my earlier post said stop moaning people have faith this year will be the best if its not we will all be playing fifa next year anyway so who cares!!!

  34. sandaweches Says:

I agree with pategato. I followed the hype of the earlier release and pre-ordered before trying the crappy pes09. What a mistake & waste of money that was.

    Teamvision my @$$

they should add this in next press release:

“online revasmped so that now players can teleport unlike other. Re-live the greatest sci-fi moments as your players make magic moves and score without you controlling them. Also this new edition we have added actual skates instead of boots so that you get the ice-skating feeling plus the graphical action too.”

    what a load of BS

  35. bal Says:

i think they should implement a fine for getting many players sent off or yellow carded in a single game, as this does happen many times in online and when you commit the fouls in ML. Although this is a small improvement, i think it will be these small improvements which make the big improvements stand out such as overal gameplay. it should be implemeented in ML as well as mayb online mode some how

  36. its that guy markk Says:

this sounds really good it finnaly looks like konami are listening to their fans i think that pes2010 is going to be a great game cant wait well done konami im impresed with what i just read

  37. aaaahPESfanz Says:

it sounds really good lets just hope they deliver i think they will cant wait

  38. PES2010 Says:

i think that this is great news for every pes fan pes2010 is having lots of improvement which will make this series of pes the best yet mark my word i bet EA is scared

  39. vince k Says:

meh. same hype every year. personally, i’d be happy with working online. we’ll see. but you really have to figure that this is their last chance to resurrect the game.
and they emphasize a change in zonal defense? i wonder what that means. i’d like to see a return to the option to have a player mark an area. that was always the most effective option. haven’t seen that in probably 3 years, right?
regardless, let the hope and impatient waiting begin!

  40. jimmy Says:

This all does sound very promising. Obviously we can’t say for sure until we’ve seen how the changes and new features are implemented in the game, but I live in hope. Unlike most of you, I really like PES09 and still play it more than any other game, but the niggles in it really irritate me. If they can iron them out and generally improve the whole package, I’ll be one happy chap.

  41. vince k Says:

oh, and i hope that finally the game is released in america the same time it is in europe. it really, seriously sucks to have to wait until the next spring to play the thing. but at least it has given us time to hear the responses, especially about if the online lag has been fixed, until we get it.

  42. ath007 Says:

Adding on my previous comment: Even a player released from the ML team wont be jobless cuz there will be tons of other teams to jump in for. Wonder when will all that happen in PES. Everybody is in a team, there are no No-belongings.

  43. vince k Says:

oh, forgot this too. i’m slightly concerned about the “tokyo-based” team. personally, i thought it was time for a europe-based team to explore the ideas. tokyo, good for programming. europe, good for creating the ideas for the game.

  44. Simon McDermott Says:

Great news Dougie, it looks like Konami have finally woken-up and realised that what they’ve produced thus far on the next-gen consoles has not been good enough – there was no mention of 16-way movement, which is one of the major additions the series needs to incorporate to add greater depth to the games-engine (hopefully this hasn’t been mentioned because it is an obviously needed inclusion).

I would have preffered to have read: ‘Koanmi have dedicated a team to completely redesigning the games-engine, adding a new and improved physics-engine, along with a greater array of player stats to better define players attributes, making them handle, look and feel more like ‘real players’ than ever before.’ Now that would have got me excited.

At the moment they are talking about improving team vision and wot not; this isn’t where the flaws lie, the faults are with the games-engine its self.

You can say all you like that you are ‘adding new player animations’ and ‘new dribbling styles’ – which is all good – but unless you actually come out and say: ‘the current games engine we were working with was inadequate, dated and poor, even in comparison to the older PS2 model. We have realised this and are now building a new one’ then all were going to get is a load of updates and improvements added to an engine that can’t hack it.

It would be like getting the workman in to sort out a new kitchen, living room, bedrooms etc, while your house is built on dry rot or sinking into marsh land.

My major concern is, that unless Konami have dedicated a team to completely rebuilding the games-engine so that it can accurately interpret what is being fed into it, then I can’t see how Pes2010 is going to be a massive improvement or the: ‘complete overhaul’ that we are all hoping for.

Only time will tell and I’m trying to keep my feet firmly on the ground. The last two years have been massive disappointment’s. I got over excited about 2008 and it turned out to be a jerky cajoled mess; I foolishly thought last year that: ’surely Konami have realised that they produced a pile of ****e,’ and to my dismay they actually made it worse.

So this year they can talk about all the new improvements they want, unless one of them is a new games-engine, then I ain’t getting excited!!!

  45. crudo Says:

lets hope that bug of not being able to move after a freekick is taken is gone.

  46. pes gamer Says:

ahh! Lets hope this time is f’real. Now to sell all my pes 2009…..
    The waiting as begun.

  47. Merdiso Says:

@crudo “lets hope that bug of not being able to move after a freekick is taken is gone.”

    SUBSCRIBED.

I want better GK animations, and a little-faster gameplay.

  48. kimcorecoba Says:

simon, team vision is part of the engine.it what allows player to make 1000 decisions/second.the game would be good, believe me,i’ve seen an official screenshot of the game and those baggy shots have been fixed and there has been improved lighting and texture(graphics)

  49. sandaweches Says:

where did u see this kimcorecoba?

  50. T.F.7 Says:

another bla bla bla… I hope, but I’m not expecting great improvements.

ps: at least it must be better than fifa!

  51. Emre Says:

    Bedava Oyun İndir

    teşekkürler

  52. Zeemeister Says:

What’s with the blah, blah same every year comments.
We have a new confirmed PK system and Uefa cup in freakin April. What would you want KONAMI not to say anything. Stop being so negative I know people are hurt but geez.

  53. baska Says:

    I’m mad………….!!!
    we always love you PES!!
    surely the kings return!!

  54. justin Says:

they say this **** every year and each year I see the worse and worse PES series coming out. Still I don’t think i can ever stop buying PES game :D

  55. snake Says:

    pc or?

  56. snake Says:

i mean this image is for pc or the graphics are the same for every console?

  57. snake Says:

  58. Simon McDermott Says:

@48 Kimcorcoba – Teamvision is not the games-engine. What I’m talking about is the nuts-and-bolts: In game physics – by this I mean the way the ball rebounds of players, roles along the ground, rebounds of keepers etc – passing angles, pitch size, perspective and player movement; players knowing where there positions are etc – Konami had ‘Teamvision’ last year and players still hold their positions like a 5 year old.

I think part of the problem is that TV companies and football stadiums have changed the position and angle of the cameras in recent years; this has meant that games have had to adjust the perspective that is represented in-game.

Play Pes2008 again on the PS3, you will notice that the angles, positions and perspective have been changed for Pes2009 in an attempt to copy modern TV camera-angles; this is something the PS2 version has not tried to copy.

Another reason Pes2009 looks so poor is the lack of 16-way movement. This means that players don’t use the majority of the pitch and on a HD TV, with a machine that provides HD graphics and a potential for detailed, intricate use of this space, it is really noticeable and makes the game look very arcade like or even amateurish.

  59. LORIMER Says:

…”an improved lighting system which differentiates between various conditions!..”

    More improved than 2009?

Great now they’ll be an “absolute pitch black broken floodlight” mode to go with the “its a thunderstorm overhead and we cant afford to turn the floodlights on” mode.

  60. arj Says:

to me it just sounds like a series of improvements rather than whole sale changes.. for starters i think they should have started from scratch with the game engine.. lets see what pes2010 brings at the moment im very skeptical

  61. jay Says:

maybe the bigger team means they put more resources on online play/network programming…. and putting up a proper infrastructure to support the online community.. that would be nice

  62. jay Says:

making games work online with similar performance as off line is hard…

  63. dfsxd Says:

    uhhhhh…….

    HHHHHHell yeah!!!!!!!!!

  64. boj Says:

about the comments about realism and simulation and physics…

i hope it doesnt get too realistic… like if too much physics and too many variables are used in simulation, the game play might be too unpredictable… like if i control the player to pass, i hope that the result will be predictable based on a set of circumstances that i can understand… like i dont want to calculate too much physics and too many variables in my head to figure out where the pass is going to go…

like when i play in my weekly league and i expect my pass to reach one of my mates, but it skips funny on the pitch in various places, and slows down due to the wetness of the grass in some areas, then starts to veer off course due to a slight incline and eventually reaches the awaiting trap of an opposing team member.. i dont want to have to calculate that in my head when i pass the ball in a video game….

dont get me wrong.. i think a degree of realism is good.. but it still has to be enjoyable and fun….

besides.. how realistic can we expect it to be… its a video game.. where we see a bunch of players in some funny isometric view… where we expect to capture all of the skills a player can possible want to do on the pitch using more or less 8 buttons and 2 analog sticks…

  65. Colombiano11 Says:

    QUE VIVA PES 2010!!!

  66. zro64 Says:

Great news, I hope they finally implement the Champions League and new aquired Uefa Cup into the Master League, cause it would be for nothing, again. Plus they need stop stop making it for PS2, thats whats holding them back from a great game. All other main frachises have moved on. You dont see COD on ps2. MOVE ON!!!

  67. Amateur Says:

“thus returning PES 2010 to its simulation roots”

    - Interesting… so they admit they went “arcade” with PES08 and PES09 ? Perhaps this is confirmation that Konami has opted to take the harder and more challenging road of a serious Football Simulator.

“In terms of attacking, players can also now move several players once, sending them into different areas, opening up more goal-scoring possibilities than ever before”

    - I wonder what that means, is it that we can now “dictate” some off-the-ball runs?? Or is it that we can now “manually control” more than one player?

“More individual skills are also on show, including new flicks and tricks that have a definite showing on the way a game flows”

    - Sounds great, much needed, my only worry is that I don’t like FIFA’s Joystick antics, so I’m a bit worried about Konami borrowing this from FIFA..

    - Hopefully Konami elaborated in their trademark Dribbling Concept, which is intuitive and responsive, and does NOT requires some unintuitive twists and turns from the Right Stick.

“PES 2010 introduces a new system wherein the individual attacking and defending nature of the players is integral to the way they play. Each player enjoys unique AI tied into their best abilities”

    - This sounds like an awesome addition, now if I have Riquelme with the ball.. I can expect the rest of my team-mates to run into space, because they know Riquelme can place a pass even through the seemingly impossible spaces.

    Other than that..

This comes as a surprise for me, I was expecting the usual BS.. just like with PES08 and PES09.

But the whole approach seems serious, more specific and detailed.. I like the no non-sense approach. I hope they can deliver on this things so that PES 2010 Transcends both PES5 and PES6.

Plus, at least I would feel better about spending $100 between PES08 and PES09. If Konami delivers, at least that ca$h went into good development.

But talk is cheap and this is a game of two halves.. Konami haves everything to lose and everything to gain, even more so with the hype this news will generate. Can only hope they meet expectations with PES 2010.

  68. Big G Says:

lets just hope its ****s all over fifa 2010 im sick of people saying fifa is beter than pes now

  69. El_Pupi Says:

i hope to see, more camera men and crew around the corner areas, with more stadium staff around the outside of the pitch, more adboards, more people around the bench side as this would bring more atmosphere to the stadium and snap shots too on replays and stuff like that

  70. Amateur Says:

Post 34 — that was genius!! I really laughed my ass off just reading it.

Post 44 — As usual, completely agree with McDermott.

My take is that a New Engine is a necessity by now, so perhaps (and hopefully) they didn’t mentioned it because it’s basically a Must Have.

And yes I would’ve been far more excited has the press release read something like:

“Koanmi have dedicated a team to completely redesigning the games-engine, adding a new and improved physics-engine, along with a greater array of player stats to better define players attributes, making them handle, look and feel more like ‘real players’ than ever before”

That’s too good to be true though.. Unlikely to happen any time soon.

  80. Amateur Says:

Well after a 1st read it sounded like great news!! it is clearly different from past years, it’s more ambitious and detailed.. less BS and more down to business. Or so it seemed after the 1st and 2nd read.

But after a few reads I noticed there’s no mention of an “all-new engine” or “360ª movement and passing”.

Maybe it’s not a big deal, but quite a few fans have taken notice of this, and I’m guessing Konami has also taken notice of this by now.

So one has to wonder WHY Konami didn’t say anything like:

“Animations now dovetail into each other seamlessly, we have successfully implemented 360ª movement into PES 2010 by the use of an all-new engine”

That’s what everyone would like to hear.. Although to be honest, PES6 had 8-Directional Movement and still managed to play fluidly.

Problem is that it is year 2009.. shouldn’t we have something better by now?? It concerns me that Konami may actually use the same Engine its been using for so many years.

PES08 and PES09 show clear signs of Limitations, it looks and plays out of date. It gives the impression of a “maxed out” PS2 Engine.. I don’t think a host of New Animations will make it that much better.

It also concerns me that Konami didn’t mentioned anything about PASSING.. Passing is one of the weakest aspects of PES09 and needs drastic improvements.

Simply put, I can do with 8-Directional Movement.. but 8-Directional Passing is just unforgivable, you cannot have a respectable Football Simulation with 8-Way Passing.

The fact that Konami didn’t mentioned anything about “passing” in their 1st press conference.. it worries me because Passing can make or break any Football Simulation.

It’s also indication that Konami has kept some things to themselves for now. Which is understandable considering it’s only April.

But considering how bad the Passing is in PES09, and considering PES is a Football Simulation.. And considering quotes such as:

“PES 2010 focuses on being a real football simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life”

“thus returning PES 2010 to its simulation roots”

Considering the commentaries above.. How can you Not mention anything about “completely reworked and improved passing” ??

There’s also no mention about “we have implemented a host of all-new Stats into the game to better define player attributes and individualism”.

In fact, for how many years exactly has Konami used the same exact set of Stats and Special Abilities?? Does it go all the way back to PES3?

Considering that “PES 2010 focuses on being a real football simulation”.

One has to wonder Why Konami did not mentioned anything about “all-new Stats to better define player attributes and individualism”.

I mean, it is very logical in my opinion.. you want a better and more realistic “Football Simulation” -you- need new and more accurate STATS.

The better your STATS Concept is -the- more Realistic the “Simulation” will be.

So.. considering that Konami did not mentioned anything about “Passing” or “Stats”.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Konami is keeping some info to themselves.. and fair play to them for giving us so much information so early on. It looks like Konami is genuinely working to improve.

This unexpected press release will generate a lot of expectations.. so many improvements, more information than usual, earlier than usual.

Why?? Will it be any different this year? If we judge by the FACTS..

Lies like the ones they feed us with PES08 and PES09.. such Lies don’t sit well with customers, customers do not like the idea of getting ripped off so notably — this showed with the PES09 sales.

I just hope that This Year they actually deliver on their promises. In the end we will get to play The Demo and that will tell us everything we need to know about PES 2010.

Hopefully the Demo will display significant improvements in the important areas. If Not, there’s always FIFA 2010.

  86. Amateur Says:

They say “New Season, All New Game” — an ambitious statement, but one that doesn’t holds enough weight.

I think Konami is genuinely working to improve, and this latest press release is proof of that. Their whole approach seems different, more serious and detailed, more ambitious. It sounds promising..

But when you do read it a few times, you get to notice that some “Key Improvements” are missing:

    * No mention of “All-New Stats”.
    * No mention of “Completely reworked Passing”.
    * No mention of a “New Engine”.

I don’t want to be skeptical but.. improved Graphics, improved Movements, improved AI, etc, etc.. Haven’t we heard that before??

All the “Evolutions” of PES have been the same: movements, graphics, one or two new animations, and tweaking and balancing the gameplay.

Everyone knows about the “fluid and addictive gameplay” of the Older PES versions.. But something many fans overlook is the fact that, in the PS2 days, PES was well ahead of FIFA in terms of STATS. The Substance those Stats provided was a key factor in The King’s dominance.

Is it a good sign of progress?? The FACT that PES4 and PES09 have the same exact set of Stats and Special Abilities.. is this progress?

Pro Evolution was appealing because it was more Realistic and Challenging than FIFA, FIFA was labeled as the “arcade-game” and PES was labeled as the more “realistic simulation”.

    What happened??

Pro Evolution Soccer went from “The King” to “Arcade-Mess” in less than 3 years.

This can happen when you keep doing the same things for long enough.. the same so-called “evolutions” every year, this was not going to work forever.

We still have the same one-dimensional Stats.. Stats like “Dribbling Accuracy” and “Technique” covering for:

    * Cutting the Ball.
    * Step Overs.
    * Shielding the Ball.
    * Body Feints.
    * First touch
    * Flicking the Ball.
    * 360ª Roulette and 180ª spins
    * Nutmeg.
    * Avoiding Tackles.

This are all different abilities/attributes and therefore should be Individual Stats. Why is Konami still using out of date Stats?

It gets Unrealistic whenever I see Leo Messi doing Step Overs like Cristiano Ronaldo. Or Carlos Tevez doing some Outrageous Roulette, which he probably has never done in real-life.

Riquelme not doing any of his trademark South American Dribbles with the Sole of the Foot.

It is plain and inaccurate to have everyone from Leo Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo to Riquelme -DRIBBLING- in the same exact identical fashion. It’s unrealistic and disappointing.

We need to have more Specific Dribbling Stats that work differently in every different situation. For example:

Shielding the Ball – The higher this attribute the better the player will hold the ball when going at Slow Pace or when in the Middle of the pitch.

The “Shielding the Ball” STAT would define very fundamental differences.. players like Zinedine Zidane, Carlos Valderrama, and Juan Roman Riquelme would have a great “Shielding Ability” that allows them to hold the ball and maintain possession at a Slow Pace – A very unusual and difficult thing to do.

People who do not play Real Football cannot fully appreciate just how difficult it is to hold and maintain possession whilst going at a slow pace. It relies on both exceptional Technique and exceptional Tactical Ability, Only a handful of players have that unique ability.

Players like Kaka and Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard cannot do that, they need to run in order to maintain possession. They don’t have the Technique required to maintain possession at a slow pace.

Usually, players play to their STRENGTHS.. Zidane played slowly because he lacked pace, he was also better than anyone else at Dribbling at Slow Pace.

On the other hand, Kaka is a great player but lacks some Technique, therefore he uses his Pace and Tactical ability to make up for his lack of technical ability.

Some players are better at “Close Control Slow Dribbling” whereas other players are better at “High Speed Dribbling”. This Fundamental Aspect of Football is completely non-existent in PES09.

To this I can add obvious improvements, such as changing the Old “Shot Accuracy” Stat and make it more Realistic and Specific. Dividing it into Stats like:

    * Long Range Shot.
    * Close Range Shot.
    * Chip Shot.

Taking the old “Shot Technique” Stat and elaborating on it:

    * Shot Composure.
    * Shot Technique.

    Why??

Shot Technique would determine the actual shooting technique of an individual, if he can shot right after dribbling, if he can shot accurately at high speeds, etc, etc.. On the other hand “Shot Composure” would determine how the player shots the ball under pressure.

One “Shot Technique” Stat cannot be that specific.

    Running Attributes??

You have players who are faster in Short Sprints and Small Spaces.. take Diego Maradona for example, and compare him with Thierry Henry.

Thierry Henry (in his prime) had great Acceleration and Top Speed, but he was never comfortable in small spaces, he was not that good in short explosive sprints. He never had that “explosive burst of acceleration” that The Brazilian Ronaldo had.

This is why I think that the game needs a New Stat to complement with the Older Ones. We only have “Top Speed”, “Acceleration”, and “Agility”. Not good enough anymore.

There is the old “Acceleration” Stat that determines how fast a player reaches his Top Speed. Why not elaborate on it and make it deeper and more realistic?

Like for example, include a Stat for determining an individual’s “Explosiveness” when he goes from “Stationary to Running”.

The more explosive the individual the better he’ll be in short sprints, in small spaces, when changing pace, or when shifting from stationary to sprinting.

Meaning that once the player shifts a few gears the “Acceleration” Stat should then take over. But in the Lower Gears, or when “changing from stationary to sprinting” the “Explosiveness” Stat would be much more relevant.

In other words, when going at a Slow Pace the “Explosiveness” would be more important. And when going at a 70% sprint the “Acceleration” Stat is more important.

The old “Agility” Stat simply doesn’t cut it in this respect, because agility really haves nothing to do with “explosiveness”. There are plenty of world class players, who are agile and fast, but do not posses that same “burst of speed” when going from “stationary to moving”.

An individual can be agile and fast, but if he doesn’t haves that “explosiveness” he won’t make the most out of that agility and pace. Or at least won’t be as much of a threat as he would be if he was an explosive player.

Compare the Brazilian Ronaldo with Cristiano Ronaldo.. The Brazilian Ronaldo didn’t seemed as “agile” or as “quick with his feet” as Cristiano Ronaldo -BUT- R9 had an “explosive burst of speed” that made him lethal.

You can make the same comparison between Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.. both have good Pace and Agility, but Leo Messi haves “an explosive burst of acceleration” that Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t haves.

Leo Messi doesn’t necessarily haves a higher Top Speed, but he goes from 0 to 60 like a Ferrari.

Whereas on the other hand, Ronaldo haves more or less the same Top Speed, the same Agility, good Acceleration once he is going at a quick stride.. but he needs more Space and Time to develop that velocity. He cannot shift from a Stationary stance to a 100% sprint like Messi or Maradona.

Acceleration, Agility, and Top Speed are simply NOT enough to define such differences.

    Passing Stats??

Short Pass Accuracy, Short Pass Speed, Long Pass Accuracy, Long Pass Speed.. it’s just not good enough for a Next Gen Simulation.

How can I say that one player is better at “Short Ground Passes” whereas another individual is better at “Long Ground Passes”?? How can I have that with the current Passing Stats?

    Why not improve it?

    * Short Ground Pass.
    * Long Ground Pass.
    * Short Lobbed Pass.
    * Long Lobbed Pass.

Still only 4 Stats, but better organized and more specific. Those 4 Stats would determine Accuracy. To this we add a Stat for “Through Ball Technique”.

And the “Though Ball Technique” STAT dictates the kind of passes an individual can pull off. Which haves little to do with “Passing Speed or Accuracy” and more to do with “Vision”. Not everyone haves the same Vision and Creativity as Riquelme, not even good Accurate Passers like Steven Gerrard and Pavel Nedved.

Meaning that if an individual haves great “Passing Accuracy” but average “Through Ball Technique” — he will give accurate but simple passes, fail-safe passes.. BUT no Riquelme-Fabregas-Type passes.

The accuracy remains intact, but not the freedom. A player with great “Passing Accuracy” but average “Through Ball Technique” would still have “great accuracy”. But his options would be limited, because he doesn’t haves the Vision required to make complicated passes. So it would be simple and limited, but safe and accurate.

There’s a difference between “good passers of the ball” and “great passers of the ball”. This is why players like Riquelme and Fabregas are so useful, because although they are Not fast, they can create something out of nothing with their brilliant vision.

Players like Riquelme and Fabregas should have complete freedom when Passing the ball, more options and possibilities when Passing the ball.. because they can basically pull off any type of pass. This would make players like Riquelme and Fabregas far more appreciated within the game.

Which is something that the current Passing Stats are definitely NOT doing properly.. for one thing, when I use Leo Messi I have a huge advantage because the guy can get past anyone with his great pace and dribbling.

But when I use Riquelme or Fabregas.. I just don’t feel any advantages, I do Not feel like I have more Passing Opportunities.. because Vision is non-existent, something that greatly diminishes the use of players like Fabregas and Riquelme.

    What’s my point??

    * Pro Evolution needs to effectively Evolve along with its fans, and beyond PES6 and PES5.

Konami needs to understand that a polished-up version of PES6 is not good enough anymore. Many of us customers have grown past that.

For one thing, I can say that PES6 was a great “PS2 game” with great “replay value”. But after 2 to 3 years of playing it, I can see the flaws more noticeably after each play.. PES6 is not good enough anymore.

It lacks depth and substance, it needs more Stats and Concepts.. it was a great PS2 game, but would make an average Next Gen game.

    With all this said..

The press release did had a couple of interesting quotes:

    —————————————————-
“PES 2010: New Season, All New Game”

“Major gameplay additions will make PES 2010 the most realistic football simulation available”

“PES 2010 focuses on being a real football simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life”

“thus returning PES 2010 to its simulation roots”
    —————————————————

Interesting quotes from Konami.. Konami needs to dump the whole arcade approach, and start building on the “Simulation Roots” of the good old versions of PES.

There seems to be a lot of focus on achieving the “most realistic football simulation available”.

    And..

I just find it odd that Konami has not mentioned anything about implementing “all-new stats into the game to better define player attributes and individualism, for a greater level of realism”.

I think the “most realistic football simulation available” should come hand-in-hand with a Stat Revolution, to achieve a greater level of realism.

Restoring the good old simulation roots is not good enough anymore.. Konami needs to build on their old “simulation roots”.

They say “New Season, All New Game” — How is it an All New Game?? Because it haves couple of new animations and flicks here and there? Because of improved graphics and movements?

We have seen that before, it’s always the same Type of Evolution with PES.. Why does Konami Refuses to Update their Foundations??

You can improve the movements, the passing, goalkeepers, you can improve just about every aspect in the game -BUT- in the end, the factor that establishes the Differences between the Individuals and Teams within the game — are The STATS.

If the Stats remain the same, the differences between Individuals will remain the same.. and as a result Individuals and Teams will pretty much play like Identical Copies.

This is why Inter Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United -all- feel the same.. different uniforms and faces, but same exact Ability — it gets Boring and Repetitive.

New Season, All New Game?? Or New Update, Same Foundation?

  95. ALEX JT22 Says:

HERES WHAT I HEARD WHEN THE PRESS RELEASE CAME OUT AND IM NOT BEING ANTI PES OR PESIMISTIC AS I WANT PES TO BE ON TOP AS PES 09 WAS JUST A JOKE THAT IT WAS RELEASED AND FIFA 09 JUST DOESNT GRIP ME THE WAY PES USED TO SO I AM HOPING BUT IM NOT SURE AFTER READING THIS MY COMMENT ARE ALL IN CAPITALS

IF YOU READ THIS EVERYTHING IS JUST SMALL TWEAKS HERE AND THERE LIKE EVERY YEAR, THE GOALKEEPERS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO SCORE AGAINST SAME,A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT WAY TO ATTACK SAME BUT I BET LIKE IN PAST PES GAMES ONCE THERES A WAY PAST A TEAM IT CAN BE USED AND ABUSED EVERYTIME TO ATTACK, REFFEREES GETTING BETTER SLIGHTLY EACH YEAR AND THE REST OF IT IS BLAH BLAH BLAH

TO BE HONEST I DONT CARE MUCH FOR PLAYER LIKENESS IF ITS IN THEN BONUS BUT LAST YEARS LEVEL WAS FINE I COULD SEE WHO 75% OF PLAYERS WERE BY LOOKIING AT THEM, WITH STADIUM DETAIL I HOPE THERE TALKING ABOUT THE CROWD AS THE STADIUMS WERE FINE REALLY JUST NEEDED MORE STADIUMS. LIGHTING WAS IMPROVED LAST YEAR SO THAT IMPROVED AGAIN SHOULD BE GOOD AND SHOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE BUT BESIDES THAT THE REST OF THESE FACTS ARE A WASTE OF SPACE AND TIME IN MY EYES

YEAH MOST OF THESE WILL ADD IMPROVEMENTS TO THE GAME OR SOME COULD ACTUALLY MAKE THE GAME WORSE FOR THEM BEING ADDED, BUT UNTILL WE SEE A VIDEO OF THE GAME WE WONT KNOW.

TO BE HONEST THIS WHAT WORRIES ME THEY ARE PUTTING THIS STUFF DOWN IN THE FIRST PRESS RELEASE WTF THIS IS HARDLY A GROUNDBREAKING IMPROVEMENT TO THE GAME

GREAT TO SEE JUST HOPE THEY DONT MESS IT UP JUST JOKING TO BE HONEST ITS BEEN LONG OVER DUE

TEAMVISION WAS A FAIL LAST YEAR AND THIS WHAT AFFECTED THE GAMEPLAY SO MUCH ESPECIALLY ONLINE AS THE COMPUTER WANTED TO ATTACK THE BALL ALL THE TIME YOUR TEAMMATES WERE RUNNING AROUND LIKE THEY WERE ON Es THIS IS WHAT MADE IT SO EASY TO SCORE AS THEY JUST LEFT GAPS ALL THE TIME SO YOU HAD TO SPEND MOST OF THE TIME COVERING THE GAPS RATHER THAN TACKELING OPPENENTS

THIS SOUNDS GOOD BUT IS IT ONE OF THOSE FEATURES THAT YOU HEAR OF BUT DONT SEE YOU HEAR IT WITH EVERY GAME THAT COMES OUT BIG FEATURES THAT ONLY THE DEVELOPER CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

THIS IS ANOTHER THING THAT WORRIES ME THEY ARE LOOKING AT FIFA AND THINKING WE WILL HAVE A BIT OF THAT A BIT OF THIS AND PUTTING IT DIRECTLY INTO A PES GAME IT MAY NOT WORK BUT IF THEY GET IT RIGHT THEY ARE TAKING GOOD POINTS FROM FIFA AND ADDING THEM TO PES.

Penalties: An all-new system has been implemented, offering greater control, placing and accuracy.

    ABOUT F-ING TIME

Enhanced Online: A new dedicated section of the Tokyo team is committed to improving the online side of PES 2010. More downloadable content is also planned. Konami has supported PES 2009 with the release of new licensed teams, transfer updates, etc, and this support will grow for PES 2010. Team and content updates are planned throughout the game’s lifespan. These will make the game even more bespoke to the player’s match day needs.

TO BE HONEST ONLINE IS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT THESE DAYS IT WHERE THE MOST FUN IS AND WHERE YOU GET THE MOST REPLAY OUT OF A GAME UNLESS THEY GET THIS RIGHT THERES NO POINT IN RELEASING THE GAME.

ANOTHER WASTE OF MONEY LIKE CHAMPS LEAGUE WAS THEY COULD OF JUST HAD A NAME SIMILAR AS WELL AS A CUP SIMILAR LOOKING AND THAT WOULD OF DONE, SAVING MILLIONS PER YEAR IF NOT TENS OF MILLIONS. YET ANOTHER THING THAT WORRIES ME IS THEY SEEM TO WANT TO SNAP UP MILLIONS OF POUNDS WORTH OF LICENSES THIS IS NOT WHERE THEY ARE GOING WRONG JUST LOOK BACK IN PES’ES HAY DAY I DONT REMEMBER HARDLY ANY LICENSE BEING IN THE GAME AND THE NAMES WERE SO STUPID BUT THATS WHEN THEY HAD THE BEST GAME MAYBE SPENDING ALL THE MONEY ON THESES IS WHAT HAS COST THE GAME OVERALL.

WHAT WORRIES ME IS THEY SEEM TO WORRY TO MUCH ON LOOKS NEARLY EVERYPOINT IS SOME HOW ABOUT THE WAY IT LOOKS WHEN YOU READ INTO IT YET I BET THEY CANT GET THE PRESENTATION LOOKING GREAT ON THE MENUS AND ALSO THE GENERAL GAME MODES AGAIN. PES HAS ONLY BEEN ABOUT LOOKS FOR THE LAST 2 YRS AND THIS IS WHEN THE GAME HAS BEEN AT ITS WORSE. IVE HEARD SOME PPL SAY THEY WANT ANOTHER ENGINE IT AINT GOING TO HAPPEN FOR THIS GEN CONSOLE FOR STARTERS IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE YEAR TO BUILD AN ENGINE FROM SCRATCH FOR A GAME AND THE COST INVOLVED THIS IS WHY MOST GAMES USE THE SAME ENGINE FROM YRS AGO AND BUILD ON IT FOR EXAMPLE EVEN THE BEST OF GAME SERIS USE IT IE CALL OF DUTY 2, 3, 4MW, 5WAW AND SOON TO BE RELEASED 6MW2. I ALSO THINK THERE IS ANOTHER ONE OR TWO GAMES ON THIS ENGINE AS LONG AS ITS CLOSER TO PES 6 THAN PES 08. FIFA’S ENGINE WAS NEW TO FIFA FROM 08 SO THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WHEN YOU LOOK AT PES’S WHICH I BELIEVE HAS BEEN USED FROM THE START OF THE PS2 SO THEY ARE THE ONES ON THE UP AND STILL HAVENT HIT PERFECTION WITH IT LIKE PES HAS (PES 06) SO THATS WORRYING AS WELL. THE STATS OF PLAYERS NEED TO BE IMPROVED AND THIS WASNT MENTIONED EITHER THERE IS PLENTY OF SMALL THINGS THAT WERENT MENTIONED BUT ITS LONG ENOUGH ALREADY

THE BEST POINT IVE HEARD TO BE FRANK IS THEY HAVE HIRED 200 MORE PPL TO WORK ON THE GAME THIS GIVES IT A FIGHTING CHANCE TO PUT IT NOT ONLY BACK ON TOP BUT ADDICTIVE AGAIN

oi alex dude you wrote that big article and all you did was just talk about how bad pes2010 is going to be shut the **** up man seriously the fact that the news of 2010 is being releases so early is good and it sounds really good and exiting i bet ur a fifa fan get of this site u fool

  97. ALEX JT22 Says:

im not a fifa fan so you shut the fck up im just breaking down the statement they put out saying its not only the same promises from past yrs but also there improving unesasary and wrong parts of the game and if you were a die hard pesalwayz fan you would know this. pes is not about graphics looks licenses which they keep banging out as well as copying parts of fifa i remember when fifa was copying pes so it shows what game is on top at the mo and evolved and clearly the better game at the mo. if it is being released so early thats not good news at all thats saying lets get it out before fifa so ppl buy it. a few yrs ago everyone i knew used to buy fifa for a few wks then trade it for pes just because they wanted the new footie title asap and it got released be4 pes

  98. TheDarkKnight Says:

I hope they add the UEFA champions league & the supposed secured licence of the UEFA cup in the master league mode coz i only play master league & i dont want to play european cup especially when you have the licence for the champions league. Come on Konami dont disappoint

  99. CT Says:

They released an official picture too, why is that not on here? Looks great, but 2008 was such a disappointment I almost killed myself. I even bought FIFA 09 b/c I was too scared to try PES 2009 but it grew stale very quickly and I found that PES 2009 is actually pretty good. Hope that Konami doesn’t bite me in the ass again though with 2010

  103. oranje22 Says:

I have major doubts about Konami especially after WINNING ELEVEN 2008 and 2009 turned out to be very un-motivated and un-inspired and lacking in any realism or next-gen progress. FIFA 09 and FIFA 2010 I suspect will push the envelope and although FIFA has some issues, they are way ahead of th game in terms of graphics, gameplay, licenses,. What happened to Winning Eleven/PES?? I used to be a big supporter of PES/WE but now I have lost all faith in Konami. Many Japanese and Asian fans are quite shocked by the lack of any innovations and improvements in the series. Everything about PES/WE acts and feels like it was recycled, not rebuilt or re-invented. Things in the game feel patched, not re-configured and re-booted. The gameplay is unbelievably clunky, very boring, too fast and without the real pacing, animations and AI are canned, atmospherics are still lacking, there is no excitement or the feeling like we’re playing real soccer anymore,, and equally bad is I am soooooooooooooo tired of having to manually change the kits and shoes of national teams (plus fixing all the wrong names and faces) that are not licensed – and as we all know, the teams in PES game are MOSTLY unlicensed.
Don’t pin your hopes too high. Konami said the same crap for PES 2008 and 2009, but we were let down, big time.
Even if there are improvements, they may not be enough for Konami to reclaim the status of the best soccer simulation. WIth the un-inspired progression of the series, maybe they should go back to the PS2 format. Their current game does not belong to the next-gen family.

  104. Fox Says:

All I can say is I hope they actually implement everything they claim this time. PES 2010 needs to be a massive improvement. As PES 2009 was released I loved it, I was a big fan. But I think when Star Ocean comes out in the UK am gonna trade it in. I am utterly sick of poor AI on the player controlled team. I am sick of the computer making up the laws of physics as it goes in order to snatch away a hard earned victory in the last second.

The “momentum” system Seabass has talked about is nothing more then screwing players over, and I’m finally tired of it. See you in the autumn, PES. I hope you’re gonna get good again.

  105. Robbie Says:

Although I keep some hope aside for PES2010 (PES9) I agree with oranje22. Unlike other titles on the next gen consoles, PES has failed miserabley. I dont know what the problem is. Both the 360 and PS3 have about 80GB or so. Dont tell me thats not enough raw power to utilize and create an awesome game. So its times for them to harness the power of the next gen console, no excuses.

I like the fact that at Konami Japan and Europe the design team has been boulstered. Promising signs. I also heared some rumbblings here about lower leagues being addes. That I would love to see but I will believe it when I see it. Not holding my breath.

    Cheers,
    Robbie:)

Come on United! Lets beat up Porto!

  106. CROFREAK Says:

I must buy a new pair of controllers because of rubbish online mode …that sucks …i am sending the bill to Konami!!

  107. gonac Says:

hope they will fix some basics too. NAC Breda has been equipped in the 2009 edition with black socks, while they play in reality for years and years with white socks. (Except a few away games). Although it is a small team, they should have more focus on this as it frustrates fans. (as it frustrates me as a NAC Breda fan)

Or they should bring back the option where you can combine the home and away jersey…

  108. Big Raff Says:

i hope they put the rest of the spl teams in this time, so i can thrash the huns with the mighty dons

  109. Gunner11 Says:

I’m a big Pes fan, but you know something’s up when i have to succumb to playing winning eleven nine on the ps2. Pes 2008 and 2009 were such huge disappointments that i had to bring back out my ps2 that has been picking up cobwebs in my closet, just to satisfy my thirst for a decent futbol game (heaven forbid, if the words “fifa had the better futbol game” shall ever come out of my mouth). This is just my opinion: but if Konami doesn’t deliver in 2010, then they can kiss a good percentage of their fans goodbye.

  110. Rocket Says:

Like I said before they really need the index of this game sorted, this is supposed to be next Gen im gettin sick of playin in two divisions, they really need to get Championship and Leauge 1 & 2, as well as Serie B, and Spanish 2nd division. also have multi divison cups it **** having just 20 in a cup every year, unfortunatley FIFA craps on PES in terms of the games index. Another anoying thing is why can i not do the qualifying option on international cups? you can on the PS2 and PSP, the next gebn console should have all the features of the last gen and more some.

  111. homer Says:

i aint gettin excited about this they say this every year and the last 3 pes games werent up to scratch,,,,il still be buyin it but im prayin its gonna be brilliant,,,PLEASE PLEASE

  113. Airbag Says:

I’m trying to remain optimistic but from that press release I get very little hope, they say there returning to PES’s simulation roots yet theres no mention of an all new game play engine or rolling back to previous game play engines. No talk of new stats, attributes or anything else.

The first two sections of the press release are crucial and very damning for Konami. They mention new visuals and gameplay elements but neither section says anything of a total rebuild from the ground up, the game play section talks of new aspects coming into the game and making old things better, such as the keepers. The visual section starts out on a high note “All new animations” and then they show their true colors by saying several areas have been “reworked”, this means no new animations just more animations added to the stiff unrealistic, robotic and clunky looking ones that are a part of their motion capture database at present.

They seem to be continuing in the same vein as previous years and this is where the problem lies, tweaking the same old inferior game play engine with new additions such as the pointless teamvision 2 and by throwing in the odd new animation. The are hammering the nails in their own coffin by continuing with this game play engine and lackluster animation database.
