PES Off!! 18th June 2009

Apologies all round for dissappearing off the face of the planet for the past month without notice, but there have been events in my personal life which took precedence over my obligations with the site.  I do not envisage any more disruptions to my weekly column, so hopefully it will be back to business from me.

Anyway, moving on swiftly, I haven’t been totally bone idle in the period I’ve been off the radar.  But have some rather exciting news which I shall go into a little later in this article.

Just recapping PES news over the last month,  I think the main key debate point was the PES teaser trailer which emerged a few weeks ago.  We have as always the usual split of people who are very excited (myself included!) by the snippets shown within the video, and then the people who are more cynical about the nature of these videos which some see as just smoke and mirrors.  So what can we tell from the video?

I think we may see the use of stats for players becoming more key factors in how they play.

One new feature which may have been alluded to is being able to draw more players into to defend and close down the player on the ball.  How this will work in terms of being able to specify how many players to use to close down is unclear, but I’m sure all will be revealed in good time.

Having just re-read the comments to the video, I think it’s fair to say that a good many of you are pretty apprehensive about how PES2010 will turn out.  The video raises more questions than it answers, which was always going to be the case, which is what fuels the frustration more for many of us.

A key question which many of us are asking is whether we will still have 8 way directional movement control, or whether we will see that improved to be at least 16 way directional control.  Many of us are already aware that FIFA will see the introduction of 360 degree control which will be fascinating to see how it works out.

But getting back to PES more importantly, we have so many questions to ask, and I can now proudly reveal that we have been granted permission to field five questions to one of the producers of the game!

There will be some subjects which Konami will keep close to it’s chest, but equally there should be plenty of information which they should be happy to divulge to us.  So we now need to collectively come up with a list of around ten questions which we would like to have answered, in a prioritised list.  Depending on the level of input from you guys out there, we may either have a huge diverse response and range of questions being asked, or we may have a few key similarly themed questions.

So I would like to invite you all to submit questions which you would like us at PESGaming.com to submit to Konami.  Please note that we will have to filter through the range of questions to decide on the final questions which we will send to Konami, but we can decide how best to handle that once we have questions from you guys.

To help start you off, here’s a couple of questions that spring to my mind to ask about PES2010:

1) What details can you give us about the core game engine and how it has improved?

2) What measures are you taking to ensure that online play is going to work properly?

3) Are players still restricted with 8 way directional control, or can we expect to have at least 16 way directional control?

I would like to remind you all once again to please be very respectful to one another and especially Konami with your questions and comments to this article.  We will not tolerate any abusive posts, or spoof posts as some of you will have already noticed with the degree of bans that have been handed out.

Thanks for reading

  1. UAE Says:

Will they include the latest players transfer on the releasing date?
Will they use the same player editor engine as PES2009?

  2. luik^3 Says:

What is Konami’s vision regarding graphics and game-play, do they concentrate on the game-play part of the game and give graphics a lower priority, or are they influenced by the market who keeps getting more spoilt with almost life-like characters and almost demand this in Pro Evolution Soccer too? So what can we expect in the next years/releases? A life-like football simulation game, or a football game with life-like characters?

  3. snake Says:

transfers and online and players status

  4. Marksman Says:

    1) Will you be able to use your master league team, with all of the stat improvements realized, in online ranked games or even freindlies?
    2) Will training be incorporated into master league like it was prior to PES6?
    3) Is there any chance that various forms of the game will be included i.e. beach football, 5/7 a-side, indoor football etc?
Good job DD and to all the PESgaming crew for making this a worthy read all year round!

  5. Blade1889 Says:

    4. Any new teams/ licenses we should be looking out for?
    5. Have the keepers been improved?

  6. iosonocanadese Says:

The most important question by far is about directional control, so:

    1. Will we see the introduction of 16 or 360-degree control not only for player movement, but for passing and shooting as well?

  7. baska' Says:

    1) will pes 2010 have new and small stadiums?
    2) untucked shirts?
    3) very wide camera angle?

    14) atleast 5 different nutmegs please !!
    15) celebraions must be in the replay

these are very simple things for konami to do !!
I hope if not now .. please bring them in next edition
all the best PRO EVO !!!

  8. adamevex Says:

Will we see the return of popular game modes from past PES games like the international challenge or random match selection?

  9. Tartan1 Says:

    For me online is key!!

What’s been done to reduce lag?
    Will there be comps?
will there be team Filtering/ranking? (stop u having to play against Barca,Man U, almost every game)
    Are u removing Komami password?

  10. ste Says:

    1) Real currency instead of credits?

    3) Realistic statistics for players, better scouting such as football manager?
    4) Return of the trickstick?
    5) Real strips and player names for all?

  11. Ruskie Says:

    Only really interested in online.

Has quick match been expanded, e.g., for Best Connection or Uk only, this may help with lag.

  12. Stringer Bell Says:

WILL WE SEE THE BUNDESLIGA MAKE A RETURN?

  13. cartoon Says:

1)What details can you give us about the core game engine and how it has improved?

It has a lot room to improve , I would like to see differences AI.Just like EPL style and italian style of played in the game.

    2) What measures are you taking to ensure that online play is going to work properly?

I think is depending on the no. of servers and the level of knowledges on programmers.

    3) Are players still restricted with 8 way directional control, or can we expect to have at least 16 way directional control?

At first when I read about 360 deg movements from fifa, I think all gamers do like to try out.Nobody knows how good will 360 deg movements from fifa turn out.Never mind , pes should learn from this new controls and improve on it !

  14. wolvesfan Says:

    Same as most
    1. Online (lag)
    2. Do they plan to let one online player host the game properly ( not just weather but to determine leagues/ teams to be picked)
in other words every match you play wont be against Barca : )
    3. Do they plan to introduce master league online ( I used to love ml but dont bother now as when you build a great team you cant play against other people unless its your mates coming around to get beaten : )

  15. flecko07 Says:

I dont care about on-line so i’d like to know,

    1) are they incorporating the Champions League and Europa league into the Master League

2)I want the training section put back in the Master League too!

  16. orange2351 Says:

I also don’t care about online, so:

    - how will they boost the realism in gameplay, graphics/physics, and atmosphere? Will the issues below be in the new PES/WINNING ELEVEN 2010?

gameplay should include slower speed, corrections in the annoying CBs running to the sidelines etc., the so called 360 movement, more natural and realistic movements etc.
each team should play differently like in real life.

graphics should include upgrade in faces of licensed national teams, club/league teams. next-gen on PS3 has a 50 GB on blu ray disc, so they should make the faces, stats, and appearance real and unique for players they represent. i sick of editing all these faces, kits, boots. there should a random button to make players choose different kinds of boots and other things (neck warmer, untucked shirts, wrist bands, anke tapes, underpants, short socks, headbands, goggles/glasses, etc.) on top of the option to edit specific players you want.
the on-pitch graphics must include degradable pitches, soft and hard rain, snow, players falling, bottles around the pitches, uniforms getting soiled (random and not scripted), even torn, and puddles in the pitches affecting the ball.
Also uniforms should be TIGHT around players (around the arms, etc.) just like real players, and not showing those big round sleeves on arms.

Atmosphere should include more stadium effects, the emphasis on fans, noise, pre game show and halftime re-entrance and post game shows, and many many cutscenes and many types of these cutscenes. Weather. Lighting. Stadium variety. High tension for big games. Booing fans for scrappy games. Make the bench more active rather than acting like zombies. Add a fourth official that we can see and more media/press people around the pitch.
For cold weather, vapor can be seen. Sweat too. In hot weather, more sweat on the jerseys, and players get tired and fans get more impatient.
Finally, MORE licenses for national teams and leagues. It was good they added more teams for Africa, Asia and Americas (national teams), but we need more. North Korea, India, NZ, etc. And each top team should have a third or classic uniform option or we can edit one.

And a lot more that Konami can achieve with the current next gen console. REALISM AND SIMULATION are the key words here.

  17. Simon McDermott Says:

Great article Dougie and good to see you back.

    1) Have you created a new game engine for Pes2010 or can we expect to see a revamped version of the current engine?

    2) What new player statistics have been included and how will these affect the way players play and feel?

    3) What new skill moves can we expect?

    4) Have the skill moves been moved back to the analog sticks?

    5) One of the weak points of Pes2009 was the poor positional play of defenders, midfielders’ and attackers. What have you done to rectify this?

    6) From your promotional video for Pes2010, we can see that you have alluded to being able to use sliding bars to change the playing style of your team, how will this work?

    7) For a while now fans of our site have been saying that they would love to be able to receive managerial job offers in master league, allowing them to manage other clubs, in other leagues, without having to restart the game. can we expect to see this as one of the new features in Pes2010?

    8) Can we expect to see the international competitions such as the World Cup or European Cup integrated into master league; and if so will you be able to receive job offers from international teams, inviting you to become their manager and allowing you to compete in international competitions, whilst the club team competitions continue to run in the background?

    9) What innovations have been made to the online side of pes2010 and what new features can we expect?

    10) Will the Champions League be integrated into master league and what changes have you made to this mode for 2010?

    11) Will we be able to pick our own international teams in pes2010 and have you included any international modes considering the World Cup is going to be taking place next summer?

    12) Have you planned any downloadable content to coincide with next summers 2010 World Cup?

  18. Bob Says:

    1) Will online REALLY be improved this time so that finally there will be no lag and that I can enjoy playing online matches without wanting to kill someone each time?

    2) Will online REALLY be improved this time so that finally there will be no lag and that I can enjoy playing online matches without wanting to kill someone each time?

    3) Will online REALLY be improved this time so that finally there will be no lag and that I can enjoy playing online matches without wanting to kill someone each time?

    oh, and finally…

    4) WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO IMPROVE TEH ONLINE EXPERIENCE??????

  19. Juan Says:

Gameplay is by far nr 1 priority, so i would ask them if they focus this game in this aspect.

  20. Avon Barksdale Says:

I only care about online . whats up string??

  21. dicky_t Says:

one : in pes 5 you could choose your strip and even change your socks and shorts ,to avoid colour clashes will they be bringing this back? also do you plan to ever let us choose a referees colour top as sometimes this also clashes in a game

two : do you ever plan to stop using scripting editing ,to make the AI feel tougher ,when quite clearly its only irratating to players ,espicially the biased of the referee to the computer ,this must be changed

three : with using the new europhoria engine ,do you plan to give each indiviual player its own AI ,if so how will it be implemented ,and also if so ,will the team as a whole ,have a different set of AI based on tactics?

four : do you ever plan to realease add ons for the core games ,for eg ,extra teams ,stadiums or crowd chants

five : master league is probably the best feature but it has become stale ,what new features can we expect ,but also will we ever use real currency or will or currency rewards be based on crowd sales and or success linked? why no multi player master league or no online master league

six : tactics in the set up menu, will we ever be able to choose our corner tactics and posistion players including which player to use defensively and offensively and putting two on the goal line

seven : will you ever include extra stats for players to help create more player individuality?

eight : online i like the country based server ,but would like them all grouped together rather than an indiviual server quotations of a 100 ,is there any plans to change this? also is there any plans to change the online set up for (a) a fair online system to stop players using the best team no matter what the opponent uses (B) the ability to set up leagues and cups online?

nine : how will the sliders effect game play ,can you tell us some of the detail

ten : konami are championing this version of pes as the most realistic football experience ever, can you tell us why you think this is?

  22. Goran Says:

1)have you been concentrating on making sure online is improved reducing lag, more competetions, making lobbies more faster to accesss matches?

2)have you improved the manuel feel of the games controls, as the interfering CPU AL was seriously retarded in 2009, especially when they slide tackle for you, and run into each other?

    3) have you improved the goal nets and stopped with the sand bags holding down nets, which i never see in football, more variety?

    4) what kind of changes are you going to make to the master league?

    5) are you goin to improve the presenation of the game, less cartoony?

  30. auto Says:

(some really good ideas so far) i would like to see a power bar for penalty kicks with the bar moving slower for good strickers and faster for ….

  31. u2moi Says:

Master League, Master League, Master League!!!

    Features you can add:
    - players unhappy and “demanding” to leave club when unhappy (think Berbatov)
    - during transfers, players may negotiate more terms than just money such as demanding to be a “first team player” (think Tevez), or get out clauses (think relegation or not winning trophies), or formation style that the team plays, or number that they are assigned, etc
    - making the game IMPOSSIBLE to win a league/cup more than four times in a row (or VERY VERY difficult to do so).
    - player not liking other players OR just not fitting with other players no matter how good player/team is (think shevchenko/D. Forlan)
    - big headded (Ronaldo, Beckham)
    - let players prefer to play for teams of their own nationality (think Benzema), i.e. demanding more money to play in a foreign country
    - sponsorship deals (this could affect players comitment)
    - players thinking of just money (think Robinho)

I cant stress that this is the main reason I stick with PES and personally feel this is the most important feature of the game. This is the only reason to play solo again and again!!

    1) How has this the ML improved?
    ——————-

Computer AI; once you develop a winning strategy, the AI team becomes useless. This is true even on the Maximum level

As an example, think how Man United lost in the championship final; they “changed” tactics AND formation AND personel AND player positions many times but struggled against the even “smarter” Barcelona who adapted to ALL Man United’s changes. With the better startegy applied Man United looked like amateurs. FACT!!! PS: I support Man United.

Has any one notice that any team (say Liverpool) always play the same way with the same formation, and never change style (they might adust tactics though). This is true even if they play a different team with a different formation. Top managers always adjust their approach depending on the team they play or the severity of the match (think a cup match); AI teams should also do so. This is very noticeable on the master league.

    2) How has the smart AI improved?

    ———————

    Become a legend!

Simplar to the reasons of the Master League, and i’d like to add:

    - I am pisses at how Managers determine your “worth” or during a substitution place you in out of ideal positions.
    - If you look at the current stats for say Ronaldo or Benzema it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a player with the same stats, even if you play every game at a top team and win everything at the easiest level.
    - i LIKE how development in one area affects growth in another, but HATE that there are certain “reasonable” combinations of growth are impossible to achieve.

    3) How wil you improve BAL?

  32. GOODA GANGEE Says:

These are my best Questions list on the Forum The following:

) how many Footballers will have Mo Cap.
1)Will there be 360 movement, what core gameplay aspects have been worked on
    2) Will there be New celebration In the game.
    3) Can I have my money back for PES08
    4) have you improved the goal nets and stopped with the sand bags holding down nets, which i never see in football, more variety?
    5) in pes 5 you could choose your strip and even change your socks and shorts ,to avoid colour clashes will they be bringing this back? also do you plan to ever let us choose a referees colour top as sometimes this also clashes in a game

6)Will they include the latest players transfer on the releasing date?
Will they use the same player editor engine as PES2009?

7)) Will training be incorporated into master league like it was prior to PES6?
    8) Is there any chance that various forms of the game will be included i.e. beach football, 5/7 a-side, indoor football etc?
    9) Are you tweaking the controls from PES 2009 or can we expect a completly new feel to the game for 2010?
WILL WE SEE THE BUNDESLIGA MAKE A RETURN?

    10) For a while now fans of our site have been saying that they would love to be able to receive managerial job offers in master league, allowing them to manage other clubs, in other leagues, without having to restart the game. can we expect to see this as one of the new features in Pes2010?

PS all yor ideas are fantastic

  33. GOODA GANGEE Says:

U2moi – Your ideas is what Konami needs in their boardroom Great Suggestions.

  34. auto Says:

I also do agree that the main focus should be on improving gameplay to be as realistic as possible even if it means slowing down the game. teams should play with more individuality for example:

blackburn/bolton = hard tackling rough play

    arsenal = quick passing football

ac milan = slow tactical football

relegation battling teams = 10 men behind the ball when play agains tough opposition (chelsea v barca style)

sorry i had 2 add that bit – loving it!

  35. Pro1 Says:

    1) Will we have 360 fluid player movement instead of the outdated ‘4 standing / 8 running’ angles of movement? This, for me, is the number one factor keeping the game feeling outdated and not belonging to the current hardware generation.

    2) During online multiplayer, will we be able to have each character on the field operating on ‘Top Player’ level instead of Basic beginner level? The current system is quite frustrating to play and is also very unrealistic, in terms of the goal keeper and fielders having extremely poor awareness and responsiveness to the ball. Most Fifa players who have sampled Pro Evolution 2009 online, ridicule the online arcadish gameplay. Yet, Top Player OFFLINE is fine.

3)Will we have less jarring and repetitive crowd chants and can we get more varied crowd chants such as what is heard in real life? For example, you shouldn’t need to hear United fans chanting: ‘United, United, United’ constantly over and over again through a whole 90 pes minutes of each match. It doesn’t happen in real life and it can drive someone into a wall at times.

    4) Can we acquire photorealistic or near-photorealistic graphics instead of the cartoon style? I would like to see more detailed pitch with more realistic textures and also please remove the sand bags from the back of the nets. Nobody uses those types of nets in real life these days.

    5) Can we get the return of the trick stick? The current system of auto tricks sometimes fails miserably because a player have executed a trick such as a 360 turn when you only wanted him to turn left.

  36. u2moi Says:

    ONLINE:
    - online league/cup mode!!! Even better would be for money
    - players gambling for money online!!!
    - The truth is i dont care for online…. BUT ADDING MONEY WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

    OFF LINE:
    - Can we edit stadiums and pitch
    - Managers tapping players (think madrid on ronaldo or Man U on Berbatov) in the ML
    - BAL: Players having temp retirement
    - BAL: option of going into Manager Mode after retirement (i.e. ML Mode) (think Rijkaard)
    - tactics in setplays (not just who goes up)

With so many features that can be added something tells me this is just wishful thinking, right?

    PROVE US WRONG KONAMI!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. u2moi Says:

    How coul I forget:

BAL: it should have two modes, BAL as a player (2) BAL as a Manager

  38. Dave O Says:

I agree with the first five in Simon’s post @ 17.

As far as I have heard, Champion’s league has been included in ML, so I don’t think we need to ask that one. Moreover, if it’s not, then it’s for legal/licensing reasons so it doesn’t help to ask. In other words, if it can be, it will, and I have heard that it is.

I would like to add one question of my own:

“PES 2009 introduced us to the new ‘Be A Legend’ mode. A lot of us really enjoy this new mode and we think it is a good sign of the type of innovation the PES/WE development team is famous for. Understandably this sort of mode is extremely difficult to create because so much depends on the AI of the CPU. What changes for PES 2010 do you think will go the furthest in improving the BAL experience? Team mate AI? Improvements to the player development and ratings systems? Camera improvements? Transfer AI? Or is it that the general gameplay itself is improved in a way which will greatly improve the way we play BAL?”

  39. chris-loves-proevo Says:

    please please please…..

    1) is there a new goalkeeping system? as in have you improved the goalies to make new ranges of saving, have reactions that mean moving hands towards the ball rather than placing themselves in a position which indicates they are trying to make a save when really its pot luck if the balls hit thems or not!

i want to see goalies who when they react… react to the ball and not just assuming a certain stance a goalie may use!

pleaseeee for the love of pro evo enquire about goal keepers!

  40. BAM Says:

  41. pes!!!!! Says:

Fix the bluddy Online mode definetly, cuz im gettin tired of all of a sudden losing because of teleporting balls!!!,and also Konami are just turning Pes games into a completely strategic game!,how dumb!,i mean ur ment to have fun playing but now!,at the same time u have to be careful wat ur bluddy doing now!,I dont think it will be enjoyable anymore!,plus please improve the online settings!,top player should be enabled!,and also the condition!,the highest condition should be enabled,or else this game will really fail, and fun options like FIFA has such as ULTIMATE TEAM

  42. Steev09 Says:

Only question I care about is wether we will be able to play 2 player Leagues/Cups with me controlling my mates opponents and vice versa. This option has been left out of the last 2 PES games and it just seems pointless and very petty, as it must be one of the easiest things to change, all we are doing is simply knocking over the joypad before the game starts, it really is so frustrating that such a simple yet effective feature is missing, Its the first thing Ill be checking for on release day for sure.

  43. Dave O Says:

@42, I believe they have confirmed that. They’re calling it “community mode.”

  44. Steev09 Says:

@43 Seriously, if so that is the best news out there, where abouts did you read or hear that. You are talking about 2 player Leagues etc as an offline mode, right? as in I can knock my mate out the cups etc by controlling his (would be) computerised opponents, really like nothing better than to knock my mates team out a tournament, better than any trophy out there :)

  45. El_Pupi Says:

lets just simply get straight to the point with the questions

    this should be asked.

is the online mode lag free?
can you play champions league in online?
is online 10 vs 10 like rumored?
do we have to use a konami ID to register or can we just use our PSN ID?
is the commentry better or is it the same?
what are the new stadiums in the game?
    will there be trophies??
can we say whatever we want during a match online like in pes5,6?
    what are the new licenses?

  46. Dave O Says:

@44 – Well, I’m stealing this info from 01srainey on WENB, but this “community mode” was mentioned when rumours about PES 2010 first surfaced. The mode is already actually in the PS2 version in Japan, so we already know what it might be like:

“The other new addition is the community mode, which allows up to 16 people to compete in cups and tournaments on a single console. Once competing players have entered their names (and for no apparent reason, their star signs), they can challenge each other to single matches, cups, and leagues. All matches and results are tracked in an impressive database that can sort the results in pretty much any way you want, even the aforementioned star sign. If you have a multitap adaptor, you can pair up for two-on-two games, while bonus challenges include penalty shoot-outs and free kicks on goal. It seems slightly old-fashioned to get 16 people together in person these days, but the community mode certainly has everything you need for a party.”

Sounds good to me, though I doubt we’ll get the astrology bit…

  47. andrew Says:

Asking if online play is gonna lag is pointless. Of course they WANT it to be perfect and of course they’re not going to say “no”.

Anyway here are mine, just off the top of my head:

    1) Are player models getting an upgrade as well as the already publicised textures?

2)Can we assume running animations/model mechanics are going to be improved considering the recent Messi mo-cap session, or are Konami just adding more anims to what’s already there?

3)Is the editing mode recieving any new enhancments and/or depth?

4)Is basic gameplay AI further being tweaked – so for example players don’t ‘ball watch’ when close to the ball?

    5) Are players still restricted with 8 way directional control, or can we expect to have at least 16 way directional control? (copied that one word for word)

  48. andrew Says:

oooooooooooooops I meant “of course they’re not going to say “YES””.

  49. Steev09 Says:

@46 Dont know if we are talking about the same thing, all I mean is that when I set up a cup, and select the number of players as 2, that instead of me playing against a computerised team, and my mate doing the same, I should be able to go into player settings before the game kicks off, and control the team he is playing. Its basically being able to utilise player settings to make every match in the tournament me vs my mate, both trying to knock each other out kind of deal. It has been included in every PES except the 2 next gen titles, which is why it is so frustrating as its how Im used to playing PES, kind of sucks a bit having to play just friendlies all night.

  50. Steev09 Says:

@46 Actually, on second thought, it kind of makes sense, at first I thought, well… why would they include a new mode just to do something that can be done on the PS2, but logically, the only reason they would remove this very simple function is the input of a trophies feature, (to stop people cheating) so in a way, a seperate mode does seem to make sense, a mode where I cant win trophies, but can play Cups/Leagues, maybee CL against my mate as a real 2 player game, really hope so, fingers crossed here anyway, cheers for the reply anyway dude.

  51. Dave O Says:

@Steev09 – No Problem, and thanks for making me remember that mode, which hasn’t been talked about much since it first surfaced. I do know what you’re talking about, but I think this might cover it, or be much better.

Now that I think about it, I agree with 47 in that asking about online etc might be pointless. We could even say in our letter to them that the number one issue is the quality of the online experience, but that we haven’t even asked about it because we think they should be very well aware of the problems that the next gen versions have had, and how important it is to all of us that it gets fixed…

Anyway, instead, maybe we could ask them to go into a little detail about what this community mode is all about, and ask if it will replace the current lack of being able to choose a human opponent in cups after kick off? Or are others not all that interested in this new mode?

  52. vatreni-88 Says:

Is game play the top Priority?

How many stadiums can we expect? Weather conditions?

  53. Big G Says:

how about proper goal keeper gloves? get rid of those white crappy looking generic ones

  54. LFC996 Says:

    1) Will Champions league mode be on ps2?
    2) Are there more leagues?
    3) Is it worth my money? (i have to sell old to buy new)

  55. minenow Says:

    1) What re-assurances can you give to fans of the series that the online experience will be improved to such an extent that 10vs10 will be a reality?

    2) With most online players likely to be 1vs1 have any improvements have been made to defensive AI?

    3) Long overdue improvements are expected for Masterleague this season? What are the major additions to this mode in PES 2010?

    4) What additions can fans of the new BAL mode expect to see in PES 2010? Will previous series training games be implemented? Legend vs Legend online a possibility with respective teams?

    5) With Fifa genuinely threatening to take Konami’s crown for the first time, what innovations to core gameplay can fans expect in PES2010?

  56. Billy Bob Says:

Some interesting comments but as far as I am aware no one has mentioned the commentary. As a Brit I can only comment on the English commentary and I have to say it is awful…

Much of what is said by the commentators is complete crap that you never hear real life commentators say… Where do they get this stuff from?

Please please please tell us you will improve the commentary…

  57. milan Says:

can they make it as good as FIFA 09?

  58. Pro1 Says:

    Agree about the commentary

  59. GOODA GANGEE Says:

Dave o – I think the commentary is a Must

its bad Very bad to say the least

  60. GOODA GANGEE Says:

Oh yeah the commentary needs tweaking alot coz it feel so disconnected with the game that your playing

  61. wolvesfan Says:

    @36 u2moi
    great point mate
me and friends always pay a euro a goal so if you win 4-0 they give you 4 euro makes it even more competitive!
theres a business idea out there somewhere guys!
paddypowerpoker and all take money and put money into your bank account maybe konami could see if could be feasible for not 2010 but even 2011 ( too late now)

  62. David Shaw Says:

IN MASTER LEAGUE PLEASE IMPLEMENT PROPER CURRENCY, EVEN IF IT WAS EUROS OR DOLLARS I WOULD NOT CARE. I JUST WANT PRO EVO 2010 TO BE AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD BE. BETTER GRAPHICS, NEW CELEBRATIONS, BUILD YOUR OWN STADIUMS. OFF THE BALL RUNNING. BETTER GOALKEEPING, AND NOT MAKING IT SO EASY TO SCORE THE SAME GOALS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. CPU NEEDS TO BE SO MUCH BETTER THEN IT CURRENTLY IS… IT IS SO EASY TO BEAT THEM.COME ON KONAMI, WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING LONG ENOUGH FOR A GOOD GAME

  64. GOODA GANGEE Says:

But people hold on here you have to keep your hats off to konami coz they what it (real bad) fifa won 25 international awards (i know it hurts me too) ,but seriously .Konami Aren’tstupid personally i like the characteristcs in pro evo games coz they stick to the way we know the players .Simple put , Pes bring us that more closer to football gameplay at the heart of its gaming. THAT MY FRIENDS is something that fifa can’t match .

    JUST A THOUGHT ….?

  65. Unserious Says:

1)Would you change the menu’s… they look babyish
2)Would you switch trick stick back to analouge
3)Would you put national anthems on the game to add to Pre-Match atmosphere
4)Would you add alternate kits for all clubs.
5)Any new leagues/licenses. Also international team licenses.
    6)Any improvements to the online.
7)Improvements needed on free-kick, penalties and the power gauge for shooting.
    8) (very important) When the player’s do 90 degree turns they should not feint.

Hope you get it right this year!

  66. Unserious Says:

OMG! I nearly forgot (very very important) GET RID OF THOSE ANNOYING BALL SOUNDS!!! Go back to those in the old days or even those currently on the PS2. I hate the current ball sounds on next-gen consoles.

  67. Nufc4life Says:

Get licence for the championship as i would like to play as my team newcastle like.

  68. Trevi Says:

The countdown is done, and PESGaming is mentioned at the Konami site.

  69. baska' Says:

yaaaay !!! PESgaming on official site !! cheers !!

  70. Goran Says:

i knew my complaints would get this sight recognised!! lol. i’m a pro fan not really willing to switch to fifa, but i have to seriously consider fifa this year if pes2010 don’t deliver. more countries and be kinder to the stats of good players playing in rubbish teams please.

will their be a new stats implemented?

will their be a better kit clash recognition system?

will my players actually pass in the direction i tell them to, and not give the opposition the chance to intercept i hate that? i do a simple pass and it doesn’t go to my players feet, but somewhere the opposition can intercept.

will the referees realise their there to ref the game not ruin it? hopefully konami took them to spec savers.

can you stop the cpu al from tackling for me unless i want them?

get some more commentators please? mark lawrence’s voice get on my nerves.

if i pull my defenders in to the centre can they please stay their instead of wandering off as soon as i switch my man on the cursor?

are players goin to have more detailed injuries?

are you goin to sort out the fatigue? because i can’t understand how a proffesional footballer can be tired after four games in a row.

  71. Zenogade Says:

I have been a pro devotee for almost 10 years. It has sadens me that the series is getting stale. The last few pros didnt even have more features than some of the ps2 versions.

I have always loved pes’ Gameplay it has always been great and fun.

But the presentation around the game has always been lacking.

THE ONE major thing i would like to see, is an improvement on the MASTER LEAGUE – which is definately the series STRONGEST POINT!!! (I was quite disappiont last year when hardly any improvements wetre made to this)

    PLEASE WORK ON THIS MORE!
    - Points based training, was a really fun experience (the one with the points targets)
    - More awards and bonuses for winning and getting top scores.
    - customised MASTER LEAGUE teams ONLINE!!!!!!!!
    - Automated subsitutions option settings.(Its not fun and I cant be bothered to select substitute every game!)
    - NO or LESS player fatigue. I want to play as my favourite players and team every game!!!
    - BETTER league celebrations at the end!!! (currents ones are not so good, especially the jumping in the dressing room seen ¬_¬)
    - More skills
    - Sponsership deals?
    - Im sure theres alot more, But the presentation, ONLINE and Target training r the things i really want! ( It wold be a maasive plus if you could create, train up and take online your own team to challenge others, kits and everything! it wud trump FIFA and would be much more worth it than a become a legend mode!!!! was fun for a while but didnt have legs. and although a nice touch, do i really want champions legue mode or uefa europa leauge mode if its not in MASTER LEAGUE, personally not)

REVOLUTIONISE AND IMPOROVE WHAT WE LOVE!!!

    Thanks
please do not slack on Konamis Greatest game anymore!!!!

  72. neo Says:

    1) will there be differnt shades of grass?
    2) how will they improve online play(e.g lag issues)
    3) will they change the commentators?

  73. Luk3o15 Says:

PES has been my fave footie game for years, and I haven’t even looked at FIFA – however this year was different and I’m ashamed to admit I purchased FIFA09 on the cheap, and found the gap between PES and FIFA is smaller now than it has been for a while!!

    My questions would be:

1 – Why have Konami removed the ability to allow a second player to play as the CPU team during an offline league/tournament mode? Surely this can be rectified – PLEASE KONAMI SORT THIS OUT!

2 – Do Konami plan to include old modes in the new game e.g. International Challenge etc?

3 – What is the situation with licenses – why have they no longer got the Bundesliga? What restrictions are imposed on Konami re: licenses for leagues/teams?

4 – Will online be sorted?

5 – Question 1 again – for me it seems so wrong that this is not possible anymore – what is the reason for removing it, can they please add this functionality again!!!!

  74. Ultimate Says:

NEVER GET RID OF THE D-PAD ! =)

  75. Steev09 Says:

Agreed about the commentators, not my biggest concern, but they dont half talk some incredible amount of BS, the commentators on FIFA, although somewhat better can be just as annoying I think, its all about relevance, they say the same old lines no matter the 2 teams playing or the situation, would also like to see them add a few more in and maybee rotate them, depending on the competition or whatever, maybee have a commentary team and some “guys in the studio” at half time or whatever. Maybee even add Andy Gray for his final word after a round of games lol

  76. milan Says:

PES is the ONLY game that uses D-PAD….they are sleeping there in KONAMI…zzzzzzzz

  77. Gazelle Says:

This could be unrealistic but I would love to see MOTD-style highlights reels at the end of each match in ML or BAL showing the goals that the computer teams score. We already have the Spectator Mode option for exhibition matches which is basically the same.

  78. dopecoil Says:

1.Will pes 2010 allow the user to have more control of the direction and placement as well as elevation on crosses from the wings manually with the left thumbstick or d-pad rather having to use l1+the circle button to whip balls in with curl high or low.

2.Has the long pass placement direction been made completely manual and 360 degrees in pes2010 on the left thumbstick or d-pad rather then being assisted or limited to 90 or 45 degrees angles and has manual spin or curl in the form of a aftertouch or use of the thumbstick been implemented so the user can make adjustments to this himself.

3.Has forwards ai been improved so they make better runs off the shoulders of defenders or move into space to recieve the through ball rather then allowing the opposition to always get in front of them to block.

4.Has the game become less rigid and on rails restricted to 8-axis and has 360 degree movement been incorporated.

5.Has the momentum shift been improved so it feels more organic rather then so scripted and contrived.

    6.Is shooting now fully manual.

7.Has a delayed one-two been added so we can control the runner on a 360 plain while the recieving player holds the ball much like ISS and perfect striker.

  81. dopecoil Says:

8.Is your focus now to make pes2010 more like ISS and perfect striker which had more manual control mechanics and a greater level of user control,pes2009 plays more like this series but still limits the amount of control the user has on crosses, long passes but still is more playable and simulated then earlier pes games.

9.Will the rainbow kick return as well as the ability to do keep me ups if you press and hold the long pass button as in ISS and perfect striker and how about chipping the keeper buy pulling back on the thumbstick or d-pad when pressing the shot button.

10.I always loved the free kick system in ISS and perfect striker where you had a visible height and power bar before the freekick was struck, you could also see your position from goal from a range of angles.Could this be added and turned off if the user wanted.

11.Will we have the option to turn the power bar off on shots.

  82. dopecoil Says:

konami needs to go back to regular nets on the goals, like it used to be, and tha most important thing, they need to implement rumble like the competition does if not better.

  85. cheo Says:

yes we need rumble in any way possible please.

  86. ali Says:

  87. Mike Hunt Says:

Maybe I am just slow on the uptake but do most PES players play with the joystick on PS3?

Everyone I know uses the D-Pad and if the new version insisted on players using the joystick I would well and true be f***ked…

Is there any likely hood that PES2010 will be joystick only?

  88. Unserious Says:

Has the graphics been updated big time … looking more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB148BoxboQ

I gave an OPINION for crying out loud, without insulting anyone, just an opinion with reasons why! Is that not allowed anymore on this website?

  90. Kirky Says:

    1. If you decide on using analogue as primary movement, and d-pad for tactics say, will there be an option to switch the controls for the players preference?

    2. Will there be purchasable DLC, boot kits, league licenses for example?

    3. Has the menu system been revamped to have a more entertaining and stylish look?

    4. Can we use strip templates in editing, e.g. a choice of 5 adidas templates then change colours accordingly?

    5. Can we have managerial offers in ML?

    6. Have you looked at making the players stats more balanced overall? Rather than having players that are devastatingly bad and extremely good. What should set them apart is an extensive list of ‘Special Abilities’

    7. Have you looked at making the keepers gloves more realistic?

    8. Can we have more emblem save points allowing for more extensive editing?

    9. Will the PS3 version be 1080p? wasn’t that the idea of using Blu-ray discs with a huge capacity so that it could be natively rendered and fit easily?

    10. Could we see a more tailored version of the game for PS3? Like PES2009 has better editing than xbox360, can you make more use of the extra capacity? (25GB single layer BD to a 8GB dual-layer DVD)
