OK, as promised, I’ve put together my impressions of the build we got to play.  Here goes…

General Impressions
I felt the game was a little faster than when I got to play it a while back at around the 50% complete mark.  This wasn’t a bad thing, as the pace of play was still relatively slower than pes2009.  Personally I’d have liked it a tad slower, as earlier, but i’m probably being over picky there.

We were told that this version was the same one that has been seen by the WENB boys (Big shout out to Adam and Suff!), so it was around the 70% mark.

The general look and feel of the matches was very impressive.  You instantly get the feel that this is PES.  I don’t want to keep going on about the graphics, as you’ve probably heard enough from various sources about how stunning the game looks, but the game looks STUNNING!
PES players are not graphics whores by nature, but the facelift the visuals has really enhances the whole gaming experience.

Match day atmosphere feels very good.  The crowd noises are great.  We only played on a standard LCD screen with stereo speakers, so weren’t able to comment on surround sound capabilities of the game.  As Francis mentioned, there is a noticeable difference in cheers when home/away teams score, but I think we haven’t benefitted from hearing it on surround sound properly.
Again I was expecting to be able to hear away players being booed, and other little nuances like that, but they weren’t present in this build.

Unfortunately contrary to what Francis reported, crowd chants are still present.  I played as Liverpool, and could still hear the world famous (not!) “Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool” chant that Konami has incorporated.  It wasn’t as prominent as in PES2009 audibly, but it’s there and is enough to make me shudder.  I’m really hoping that Konami ditch crowd chants for specific teams and concentrate on crowd dynamics matching the action on the pitch, so fingers crossed Konami do this for us.  The ability to import team chants would take care of individuals who prefer to hear them in my opinion.

In this playtest, my main focus was on gameplay, and not on the various modes of play. I had a very brief look at the master league mode, and this time round you will need to either read the manual, or pay attention to the on screen help to get you into action.  Which is very refreshing and a very welcome challenge which I think many of us will enjoy.  Master League now has the revamp that we’ve been screaming out for.
I played on both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game.  There are currently differences between them graphically and possibly a little in the game play too.  Currently the 360 version seems to have a bit more polish to it as Francis mentioned.  I don’t want to start a flame war on which version is going to be better or anything like that.   I fully expect both versions to be pretty much identical come launch.

360 control
Now that we have 360 control we need to understand what it is in PES.  First I can clear up that the PS3 dpad has 16 way control and the 360 dpad has 8 way control.  I’m being told this difference is due to hardware limitations and should not be attributed to Konami.
Anyway the left analogue sticks have full 360 control.  What this means for the control system is that when you are not in control of the ball you have full control of how players move.  This freedom may come as a shock to some people.  Because we’ve been used to the players pretty much knowing where to expect the ball,  automatically having total control of where you position players can be a bit of a shock.  Some people may complain initially that the ball didn’t go straight to a player’s feet, or that they moved away from the ball when they were receiving a pass.  These are the sorts of things you are going to have to learn to do, as you would in the real game.  The game is less on rails, and the onus is on you to control your players and move them as you see fit.

Well, now everyone should expect to get reacquainted with how to play the game.  Yes it does still feel familiar but be prepared for some new thrills and spills as you get to grips with how to play the beautiful game.
360 control does not mean you can pull off physically impossible movements from one angle to another.
It means that you have a fully subtle range of movements which you have in a normall physical fashion.
You now have to think about what your players body position is and how to move into another position naturally.  For example whilst running forward you can’t suddenly change direction and start running in angles greater than 45 degrees with no change in pace.
As I’ve previously said you can’t run full pelt then change direction by 90 degrees as you currently can.
Players slow down when trying sharper turning on the ball.  This means that you have to learn to slow down and speed up to make full use of your new found 360 degree movement.  The faster you are, the harder it is to make sudden direction changes – obviously highly skilled dribblers will have an easier time of trying that less skilled players.   Yes there is familiarity in feel and play, but there are enough differences to make you sit up and pay attention to what you’re doing in game.

Player movement animations have been considerably increased.  You now get the feel that there are different types of players with more movement styles evident.  The last two PES games have had a very robotic feel to them, with the same singular player animations in use.  Now you have a few running styles which feel more natural.  The stiff comedy running is no more.

Long balls
Another great change that I also found was that long balls were more satisfying to pull off.  I generally don’t use long balls all that much in my own playing style because I tend to find them to hinder my game rather than enhance it. Long balls previously used to slow down play for my liking.  But now I felt that they were more useful and helped keep the flow of my attacks more.  The ball physics are better than ever, and have a very natural feel which means you feel more in control of the ball and what you choose to do with it.

Equally crossing from the wings is so much more satisfying since you now can practically pinpoint where you want the ball to go.  I didn’t mess around with the types of crossing modes so it was in default mode, but there were times when my crosses went way over to a further area than I expected.  But that was because I was expecting the usual semi auto crossing to take place where we generally know where the ball will go.

Shooting
Shooting also felt very satisfying.  I felt like the players were really connecting with the ball.
Shots varied depending on body position so it was intuitive.  Chipping has been fixed and I was instantly comfortable with them too.  I scored a couple of great chipped goals, so thumbs up from me.

Goalkeepers
Unfortunately once again the keepers in the version we played did not allow you to choose which defender to kick the ball out to from goalkicks.  The default first defender is still the only recipient of a short ball out.
Apparently you should be able to use the right analogue stick which is still the manual pass stick to take goal kicks and pass the ball to any player you see fit.
Keepers were ok I didn’t see any real dodgy clangers going in or anything like that.

The one new feature which was present which I think really opens up goal keeping was the ability to press the right analogue stick in to give you total control of the keeper.  What this did was allow you to rush out at players in the area and give you more say in how you defend against an attack.  Its a bold innovative system which works very well.
It will of course mean you will need to learn how and when to switch to manual control in play to stop
attacks, but ultimately you are rewarded with unprecedented richness should you be brave enough to try it.
One thing I should mention is that when you activate keeper control, you remain in control until you press the
right analogue stick back in again.  If you don’t press in it again all your outfield players are CPU controlled.
So that could throw some people who expect the control outfield players automatically when the keeper plays the ball to anyone.

Odds and sods

Still present in this build were the old invisible barriers that we know and love to hate.
Again we were expecting these to not be present, but again it could just have been the feature wasn’t included in our build.  Because of build differences I don’t want to be critical of the game.
Now that we have access to early dev builds of the game we must be careful to ensure we only report issues which we expected to have been dealt with and not moan about things which we are being told are being addressed.  It is very easy to get into a state where this privilege that has been afforded to us by Konami could inadvertantly bring about bad publicity for them through basic miscommunication.
We are very keen to avoid this situation.  I am expecting us to get to play at least one more build very soon.  If the features are still missing at that advanced a stage, then I think we can begin to worry.  But so far Konami have been true to their word in their dealings with us, and we respect that, and won’t do anything to misrepresent any information they afford us.

The trick stick still isn’t present as I had hoped.  You still have to use R2( or RT on the 360) to trigger tricks with the left analogue stick/d pad.  The right analogue still is still the manual pass stick.  Again there have been mixed messages about this, so again it could be a feature that didn’t make the build played, so once again I ask you to reserve judgement on this for now.  I will try to get the official position on this as soon as I can.  So with the current implementation of tricks, being the same as pes2009, I felt a bit more comfortable with it, but given a choice, i’d ditch it.

Stadiums
There are 22 stadiums in all.  The pitches have their own grass patterns, and look very lush.
They definitely are more  pleasing to play on.

Summary

I left the playtest with a quiet confidence about PES2010.  We’re well onto our way to getting a serious game that has bounced back.  I am holding back from declaring my undying love for it, because we’re on the home straight, but the race isn’t over yet.  It would be easy for Konami to start to wave to the crowds and even perhaps sign a few autographs, and offer self-congratulatory smiles to the crowds with the finish line in sight.  But the big three sites which in my opinion are us guys at PESGaming, WENB and PESFan (in no particular order) will be continuing to provide feedback and request more out of Konami until the very last minute, because there are still small details to iron out.
I’m trying to think of negatives to point out, as I did with my previous playtest, but I can honestly say that there isn’t anything that sticks out that is fundamentally wrong with the game.  We need to play a build that is closer to the finished product to categorically state whether the last few features that we want to see implemented are added (such as the invisible throw-in barriers, keeper goal kicks etc, as well as online play).

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Konami for implementing 360 control in the game.
It’s absolutely amazing that after the complaints people made after the previous playtest, that Konami listened to what we wanted, and implemented a vital feature – and it works!  It’s not a bodged implementation that partially works, but a proper new feature that they can be rightfully proud of.  They listened to what we wanted to see in PES, so please do express your appreciation for the hard work Konami have put into adding features into the game at this late stage.

Finally, I’ve added a section below where I’ve answered a small selection of questions a couple of guys put forward.

PES Questions

Questions from Firsty First of the Firsters!:

1) Can you confirm who is doing the commentary and whether or not it is any better this year?
Usual commentary – nothing great – i think we need to help define what we’d like from commentary going forward.
2) Do the crowd chants sound droney still?
Droney but less noticeable.  i used to get somewhat nauseous playing pes2009 because of the inane chants.
3) Did you get to play an online game?
I’m afraid not.
4) Did they say what new features will be online this year?
Sorry – didn’t look into this – will ask more next time.
5) Are there any differences with the free kicks this year?
Same free kicks well done though.  You feel more in control of shots.
6) How hard are penalties now with the new controls?
As Francis said, in game the pens were different as you take them from the ingame camera view.
Penalty modes still have the normal view we’re used to.  Taking penalties is a bit more of an art form, which you would be best advised to practice with your better penalty takers.
7) Does/will the PS3 and 360 version have the faint offside lines like the Wii 2010 version does for when your players stray offside?
That’s a good idea, but unfortunately it’s not in there.
8) Did you get to see the Edit mode at all?

Sorry – i didn’t look at it – my bad!  will make a point to further investigate next time.
9) What can you do in the training mode?
Usual training modes
10) Are there still ’sweetspots’ where goals can be scored?
Not that I could see in 2.5 hours of play.  Goals were hard to come by. I had to work hard for openings.
Teams are harder to break down so I couldn’t just use the same tactic to break teams down to create shooting chances.
11) How do the new sliders work in real live gameplay? i.e. assigned to hot keys?
The sliders are settings you will tend to set pre-match, and perhaps at half time.  there isn’t an option to change them ingame.  I don’t think they were designed to be dynamic sliders, but there are options for auto-settings, where basically you can get the cpu to assist with formation changes during game to adapt to your play.  Though I didn’t concentrate on seeing how this feature affected play.
Since this is a new feature, perhaps it can be matured over time to better suit our needs.  Like yourself, I personally would like the option to change slider settings in game – but how do you do this intuitively and fluently mid-game?
12) Have the keepers got any better?

Once again we were prepped to expect the keepers to be a bit hit and miss, but once again I am pleased to say that I was fairly satisfied with them.  they weren’t poor that’s for sure.  there were some great animations during the game where the keepers made some great saves.

Questions from Aadam Dhorat:

1) Has konami removed the computer assist, meaning in the box does the player clear the ball without you telling him to, another scenario is if you are going to block tackle someone they do an auto slide tackle, and lastly when the ball is going to go out the player goes for the ball and you can’t stop the player moving?

I can’t say I noticed any such behaviour from defenders.  I felt pretty much in control of all player actions during gameplay.

2) Has the passing improved or is it the same, when you pass does the player pass it to the closest player, or have they integrated pressure sensitive passing, like when you hold the pass button for a long pass or if you tap it, it it does a short pass?

The passing system is fundamentally the same.  If you press the pass button normally you pass to the nearest player (in the direction of your choice), and keeing the pass button pressed passes to a player further away.

I think you are alluding to whether we have a pass meter which defines the strength of pass, which PES doesn’t have.  Hopefully that is something we can look to get incorporated moving forward.

3) Has the game loading times been dramatically cut down because they are very long and tiresome?

I didn’t really look at that properly to be honest, but the guys from WENB did praise it, so it’s quicker – honest!

4) My last question is the shooting, Has the shooting styles been varied meaning is it the same shooting  in the middle, top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right, can you shoot in between the middle and side post?

I didn’t try to exhaustively cover shooting, but what I did see of it, it was very good.  I had no complaints about shooting – I hope that answers your question!

If there are any more questions you would like answered, please use the comments section to ask them, or email me, and I will look to dedicate my PES OFF!! article this Thursday to answering your questions.

Cheers

Crowd chants are GOOD and a MUST HAVE in any modern video football game. It’s just that the chants that Konami have insanely decided to implement in PES that need totally killed off and omitted from the game. If it were a choice between No chants and PES 2009 chants, then I would take/demand/pray for No Chants everytime. However, as a PC gamer I have my own homemade chantspack which totally rocks. I would hate to lose the ability to implement this in my PES installation. Furthermore, Konami should really be looking to implement such a chants pack as part of the finished article. This would be a relatively easy task for them and as far as I am aware, there aint no copyright issue on crowd sounds recorded live by fans at matches.

Other than that, I am pleased that Dougie is giving a fairly optimistic overview of the game, especially since he is the blogger that I trust the most and shares similar values to me as to what the important issues are in the game. With that said, I am pleased that he reports that long/high balls are now a viable option in PES other than just a kick you can do to just to make the match seem more interesting. High balls in midfield play have long been a real weak-point of PES and soccer games in general and this shouldnt be the case as lifted accurate passes are a regular and essential tool in real football.

The biggest issue for me with any PES game though is the issue of lame goals and also the fact that such goals are most regularly obtained by playing ugly unrealistic and cynical football (see UK Finals…….with the exception of the guy who actually WON IT!). However, I wouldnt expect any early playtester of the game to be able to identify any specific ‘weak goal’. It will take all the usual queerboy geeklords to have a bit of time with the game in order to give the AI a run for its money before developing the new latest methods by which to cynically exploit an AI system. I think it was PES5 that lasted the longest….twas about 6-7 weeks before the usual PES gayness started to prevail and dominate.

    Time will tell.

  11. MatTheCat Says:

    Oh yes….

…..And I still utterly DESPISE match scripting game distorting cheating AI…..

But I suspect it is necessary in order to make the game more variable and provide for more ‘excitement’. At the end of the day, PES is played mostly by teenage (and younger) males who are not even going to notice that any scripting exists.

  18. Playerz movement Says:

    Interview with SEABASS:

Eurogamer: You’re this year in a new situation. Last year was all the world that Fifa had overtaken PES. What effect did this have on the development of PES 2010?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: We saw this a bit differently. In our opinion, FIFA was better last year than we did. They have not caught up. They were much better. Of course, our site is important, as FIFA is good or not, but that’s not the point. Much more shocking for us was, however, as the PES-user thought. We have seen that they were not happy with PES 2009 and that was much more shocking for us and produced great pressure. Because of these reactions, we owe them a much better game in 2010.

That was the feeling with which we approach the development of PES 2010.

Eurogamer: How did the depressed in development?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: With PES 2009 ended an era. PES 2010 is also for us an entirely new PES, a game that forms the basis of a new generation. We say this because we have changed the way in which we create PES. Until 2009, we have created the game action for action and assembled into a game. That was ok until 2009. But the gameplay became too arcade, action-on.

For PES 2010, we said to ourselves: we must change our approach. We have therefore set in from the front a number of goals: Where are we going, what players we wanted to target and how they should look the matches, and have been working on it. So we have changed the creative process.

Secondly, in PES 2010 we wanted to improve the attack of the players yet, but would not play games, which fall into too many goals. So we have developed a new style of zone defense, which ensures that your results are more realistic.

This type of development we have used the first time in 15 years and therefore we can say that we have with PES 2010 gameplay finally reached the next level. We also have the slider strategies and the card system to the players introduced. These features are also an example of the new approach.

Eurogamer: The 360-degree control has indeed FIFA announced as the first. Now she makes it. How long have you studied this technique already, and what do you think she is doing for Pro Evolution Soccer?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: We actually have long experiment with the 360-degree control. We always thought a lot about when most would be the best timing for it. Only last year we thought it would have been the right time, then this year. We have always thought about the timing – and because FIFA is now also makes, of course, we thought we finally integrate them into our product. But it is not just a fight “Fifa makes it, so we have to.” We have always experimented around with it and wanted to make the already quite a while.

In terms of ball control: That you should just try yourself time to figure out how to change the game. I can tell you however that may be observed especially on the side lines is a big change. Where the time the ball went out of bounds, they can be kept in PES 2010, with only a small move, perhaps still in the game. On the other hand, if you are not careful, you can carry the ball with the 360-degree control even easier out of play. You will feel this difference, then, very clearly. Especially on the lines.

Eurogamer: You look yourself a lot of football for research purposes? Therefore, you bring your new ideas?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: Actually I get the main input of it if I PES players may see it while playing. This gives me a different perspective than when I watch real football. I can think of many more things that I could integrate into the game. There is always something to improve. In fact, I even had ideas for the next few years.

Eurogamer: With dribbling superstars could overcome in 2009, the defense is still too easy. How can you stop in 2010, this powerful player?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: players like Ronaldo and Messi, so these dribbler themselves in genuine Football exceptional abilities, so they have in our game. For 2010, we did not want to weaken. Messi is a brilliant player and it would not be fair to reduce its value. Instead, we have renewed the zone defense system. It is our opinion the right way.

In real football Messi is to stop in one-on-one very difficult. But there are examples where such superstars are effectively taken out of play “because the team works together and the players to help out each other in the zone defense.

Eurogamer: Even the goalkeepers were a problem in the last game, right?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: Yes, we have first improved somewhat, so that they can be not so easy this time loaded with tricks. Furthermore, we have the team we have always asked myself why it is so easy to overcome the keeper. Well, in real football, in a one-on-one situation, a completely free attacker a good chance to sink the ball.

Again, we have a little thought differently. We wanted to cooperate, the defenders anymore. So we have the defense system adapted so that a pure one-occur less frequently on-one situations. The defenders will defend the goal always coincided with the keeper to prevent the attack is not so easily have.

Eurogamer: What has changed in the champions league?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: The Master League has visually changed. But this is not the most important. The most important changes stuck in the end. Some in the financial system: If you won a game’s predecessors, you got a certain amount of points that were needed to guide the club. This time it’s even income from sponsors. If your team goes on a tour that takes you to one more example, just like in real football.

In addition, it was then game over, if you had arrived in the red. This time, we thought, in reality this is not always the case. Even if one falls into the red, you can buy, for example, one player who is so popular, for example, that you get more viewers and thus deserves more money again. I believe this gives the game a larger management component. But there are so many other new things.

We have also integrated the true European league and the Champions League in the real Champions League. We wanted it in the Champions League comes to build, not just the players but also the association. To sum up: It’s just become more interesting.

Eurogamer: The online was a problem in the previous game. What will be different this time?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: Online in the past was a problem for us. We have therefore revised the system. To be precise, the PES 2008-360-based version of our favor because we felt that it worked best at the end.

There is also an online community and an online Champions League, are really great. Namely, if one line comes into the knockout stage of the tournament, it’s just like in the real Champions League. This is very exciting.

Eurogamer: The game seems to be a little slower overall. Was the basis of realism concerns?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: Yes, that is also connected with that of PES 2010 we changed our approach to development. We have set ourselves some goals at the beginning of development, have analyzed many aspects of real football, and implements this knowledge in the game. The balance of the players speed is a quantity that we have analyzed in great detail.
The thing is this: We need zusammendampfen a game like football that is played over 90 minutes to 10 minutes. So there must be differences in the sequence. Therefore, the flow of the game may seem a little slower to give pure realistic impression of the game.

Eurogamer: Is there a small new gameplay feature is that many people do not notice at first playing, but it is still very important?

Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka: This is probably mainly the new zone defense: So far, most attack situations, basically a one-on-one. That has changed now, thanks to the new zone defense. If you want to stop powerful dribbler like Messi you have to slow down their attack just to attack, they may not. In this way we get more support from other midfielders or defenders. This is something that has not previously happened.
I recommend all players as well, Straddle once more. This year, the straddle is in fact quite different. Tried it!”

Easy, i cant see people using the D-pad if it aint got the full range of movement, so you could asign the sliders to that.

Push up or down on it to chose which slider you want and then left or right to adjust it.

i dont see any other way of doing it without keep pausing the game.

Do the refs actually play advantage instead disrupting play?

have quick free kicks been sorted out? it would be a good idea if you could take one every time (if not just w8 4 a normal 1) but the ref can call it back, like in real life

Can we direct through balls to the chosen players right or left foot?

i no this wasnt in the build u tested but do you think throw ins will be like fifa where you can the break the real rules of football on purpose and stand infront of a player within 2 meters of the ball thrower? (not good)

  27. PESGaming Preview PES 2010 - Winning Eleven Next-Gen Blog Says:

[...] EDIT Second preview is up now too, read it by clicking here. [...]

  28. Blade1889 Says:

Sounds really promising! I’m particularly happy with the long balls being more satisfying. I think in the last couple of versions the long ball has been almost pointless.

    Question Dougie:

    - How do the crowds look now? Are they a lot more realistic and do they jump up and down when you score?

  29. bonyi Says:

“Like yourself, I personally would like the option to change slider settings in game – but how do you do this intuitively and fluently mid-game?”

Cross media bar style: up, down select parameter (eg. pressure), left right – set value..

simple as that and would have incredible impact..

  30. The Liverpool Way Says:

Good review, I enjoy reading it but I was shocked that you didn’t go to Edit Mode! You had more than 2 Hours! You could have went to Edit Mode for just a few minutes at least.
But there is always next time.
it was a great review of the 70% build. Good Work.

  31. Tha Jogfarva Says:

I agree with The Liverpool Way. It was a shock….

But you vindicated yourself with the in depth write up concerning alot of the other issues.

All in all it was a job well done.

Seems like im the last of the editors.

    THEY’LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE

  32. Tha Jogfarva Says:

p.s. PLEASE tELL fRAnny 2 GROW A MATCHING SET (I would but he’s not talking 2 me anymore.)

I cant beelieve someone would be so sensitive as to erase views on an article that were objectively non-complimentory.

I myself make music, and have come in for some seriously harsh critique, yet I didnt hire a band of HEAVYS with overly-macho and gangstafied nicknames (that obviously compensate for their own inadequecies) like FRIDGE!!!, PASSTHEDUTCHIE !!!, TERMINATOR!!!(4 cripes sakes,) DANTHEWOLF!!!( 2 gladiator methinks) and most terrifying of all….colin??? 2 protect me or try 2 black ball them from PUBLIC!!! shows and OPEN!!! forums.

I just take it with a smile and keep in mind, that we all have opinions & theyre all like……u no the rest.

R U GUYS SERIOUS he actually said I had “unkind words to say.” I mean….how old is he.

    Wait someones at my door….

    FRIDDDGGGGEEE….NNOOOOOOO!!!!….. PASSTHEDUTCHIE!!!!….
    I WAS JUST………………………………………….

  33. RFC-CHAMPS-09 Says:

As far as editing goes im curious of how the face cam will work this year?
its by no means a big deal but just a small issue i had with 09, it never seemed to turn out very realistic.
When i bought Fight Night round 4 and used the Face cam it was incredible, photo realistic likeness (fifa 10 implemented this also, i hope PES has improved it!

I also hope there are more boots, hair styles ect available this year..again its not a huge issue but all these little things add up to the editors.

Im interested to know who you are all going to pick as your frst match on PES this year?
Mines is always Rangers vs Celtic, I expect a good number of people to have a Real vs Barca too.

Gutted that we need to wait till the end of october for the game but good thngs come to those who wait!
First time in a few years ive been so excited about PES!

  34. T.J Says:

BREAKING NEWS (and this time not about stats, but i do have some if people want them :P)

    DEMO HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED.
It comes out 23rd September!!! So get READY!!!!!!!

  35. TCBULLET Says:

    Nice one TJ,

Thats great news, looking forward to it already!!

Did you manage to get Titus Bramble’s stats?

  36. yorojo-gunner Says:

tj one thing i will say is if you do have any new stats, its ok to post them or the link to page with stats, cause im dying to know all the stats just like last year with dutch web witch had all the payers stats in the game

  37. Lolo4 Says:

Now I am even more unsure about the ratings of psm3 magazin.
How could PES beat FIFA in tricks, if there are no tricks in PES, uh sorry, 4 tricks? Not even the 70% version has it R2+right stick!! SO how could possibly PES beat FIFA in tricks?

2)Did they fix the stunned players after kicking a free kick?
3)I think it was in PES6, where you could pick 4 teams (or 1 region) and generate a team. I much enjoyed this mode playing with friends. Will it be back in PES10?

    Hope to see any answers.
BTW good article DD! And tnx TJ for info about the demo!!

  38. Matt Says:

Tha Jogfarva – Post 32 – You are a total idiot. You are going guns blazing at having a go at people who blog on this site, but mate they are actually better than you……why?? because they do something to make a contribution to this site, unlike a half wit like you. Go and make your ****ey music and also are you 7 yrs old, your english and grammer is piss poor………

    Just my opinion looser

  39. Rob Says:

Quite a comprehensive review,a lot of questions answered.
I personally am not bothered about invisible barriers in the game as long as the rest of it is a rewarding experience.
I do spend a lot of time on the editing side of things just to make it a bit more real for me,therefore, I hope the importation of data is still in the game.
PES has never had great music but then again it’s a football game not a music cd, (although I quite liked “Born To Win” good tune lousy lyrics),and if importation is in you can always add you’re own.
Looking forward to the demo and of course the real thing on 23/10/09.

  40. Anonymous Says:

  41. Cris Says:

Konami should enable switching sides during a tournament match so that you could play tournaments with your friends on the same pc as in the old pes games, or at least chooseing sides right before the match starts.

  42. cheech & chong Says:

how do you know the demo is out on the 23rd???

  43. bignuts Says:

1 . I hope the lack of a look at the edit mode is for true and not just a cover up of how piss poor it is …..again!

2 . How about putting up some gameplay vids of people actually scoring a goal! Not just 8 minutes of poor passing, midfield drudgery.

3 . How come no-one on these videos asigns player names to their controllers? Its amatuerish, i know youve got the name bars, but ffs, you could be trying to hit 40 yarders with rio ferdinand!

  44. cbr Says:

    dougiedonut, I have a question.

Is it easier to apply forechecking pressure and tackle the opponent’s defenders in PES2010? Is it possible to apply forecheching using 3 or 4 men (1 man player controled, others CPU controlled) at the same time?

Because in previous games, the winning side could easily pass the ball between defenders in his own half and waste time. Some people were abusing this, which was really hard to prevent and it was ruining the game.

  45. don octavio Says:

    i am full of hope

and excited about the 360 movement

  46. Hunter Says:

Great work Dougie, it’s always nice to hear optimistic and positive views. I’m already looking forward to the game.

    Keep it up.

  47. don octavio Says:

    @bignuts

i play with a team i know every player’s look no need for the name n the player

  48. Essex Pat' Says:

Article from Alex Kidd out of the paper,

“The respones so far from Fifa 10 have been amazing, nobody has disliked the game in anyway, however already now in PES 2010 we are having a few hiccups in certain areas. It does sound as if FIFA will again be crowned as the champions of video game football”

  49. James The Gentleman & Scholar Says:

Actually MATT. I do believe you’ll find it’s “your english and grammer ARE piss poor. Also Loser has one O. So good sir I think you will find it is you pointing your index at the Jogfarva ( who I must say has displayed an outstanding command of the English language, albeit with a liberal flaunting of his poetic license which I personally find ingenious) and in turn your middle, wedding and pinky at yourself.

Might I also add that he has not (despite some very explicit provocation on your part and from many others like yourself) sank to juvenile insults the likes of which you and your croanies have been banding around. Instead he has maintained his decorum and made light of all your quite unnecessarily flipant and rather deplorable coconspiriting, on serious natured verbal attacks.

Have you all failed to realise that he has repeatedly waved an olive branch to which you have merely brandished your blades with additional bloodlust.

You are all pathetic. My advice is ‘Jogfarva leave these people to their sacred gated community’ because it is obviously very unwelcoming to any and all with the ability to disagree with what they deem the status quo.

And just so you know this is not just my opinion.

    ITS A FACT.

  50. Gazelle Says:

    @cbr

With the new sliders system you can increase the scale of pressure that your team puts on the opposition. That will hopefully solve your problem.

With a high pressure slider your team-mates will close down the opposition player on the ball without even needing to hold the ‘team-mate-apply-pressure-button’(square on PS3).

  51. Anonymous Says:

Jogfarva is standing up against the ‘man’.

    Go Jogfarvaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  52. Anonymous Says:

Matt got it handed to him . . .

  53. Cass Says:

“James The Gentleman & Scholar” – Matt, I think this is the same prick that calls himself Jogfarva, just seen his I.P. address…….Matt, you did have spelling mistakes though dude, but who cares, you put that sap of a person Jogfarva in his place…..

    PEACE

  54. anon aka bigjim Says:

got to say on the other thread all my comments were deleted bar one just because i stood up to the lazyness and unforfilling preview that we were subjected to from franny.
while ather comments were left on the page calling me a whole manner of names and expletives.

the little people called me to be banned and so my posts were removed just for not agreeing with frannys reasons for a half baked preview and pathetic, lazy, selfish and poultry 1 hour playtest.

sacred gated community indeed it is!

    regards

  55. passthedutchie Says:

Personally, I liked Jogfarva’s repost. A little wit goes a long way, however, I have never considered Passthedutchie to be a ‘macho’ tag and I certainly have no inadequecies when it comes to pots! A dutchie is a cooking pot and I have loads of the buggers in my kitchen.

More interested in Jogfarvas’ music making though. Always good to meet fellow musicians, so, wouldn’t mind knowing what kind of music he is making?

We have just lost a drummer, a bloody good drummer, to Her Majesties Service (and his own stupidity). Making music is great, having a band is a ****ing nightmare!

Anyway, is anyone talking about edit mode? I am starting to get a little concerned about the lack and info. As someone had already mentioned, is there something to hide?

  56. Lolo4 Says:

Nice post there James The Gentleman & Scholar :DD
    Sophisticated indeed :D

TJ, link would be much aprishiated for demo info

  57. yorojo-gunner Says:

cass i have to say i dont believe you mate, how would you know that thats jogfarvas ip adress.

and dougie do you always end up shooting with your stronger foot, from any angle even when you have a good weak foot accuracy & frequency

  58. PES lover Says:

Is the online system for PES 2010 based on PES 2008-360 ? Wasn’t it suck big time? I thought WE 2007 on 360 was the last good online system for WE/PES

  59. donjuan88 Says:

Just heard wenb latest podcast , got to say theor opinion sucks bigtime, and this know it all adam, thinks he knows more than what seabass does, no point talking about suff, i think you lot would MOST DEFINITLY agree with me.

Anyways hope seabass brings out something form the bag to stamp all over rutter the nutter’s Fifa.

  60. landmoose Says:

well done TJ, the countdown is on!

  61. ms777 Says:

Do you know if there is a option that enable you to change the pase of the game ? example: fast, normal, slow. It seems to me that the current pase is to fast

  62. ZAD Says:

Are they going to bring back the snow weather to pes 2010?

I hope you guys check edit mode next like hair styles and other stuff.

  63. Mody Says:

In PES 2009 International league mode, we cannot select “time of play”, for example Inter & most of English teams we forced to play during day time were shades are blocking parts of playing field especially goal area.

  64. alex Says:

i think pes 2010 is looking alot better than 09 but it still has one of the worst gameplay features still in it and one which ruined the game for me last year and that is where if you have the ball about 2 – 4 players of the opposition just rush towards at one time you then you pass it and then they just rush to the next player this just looks ridulous when playing(looks like the game is on speed) and also makes the game very unrealistic 2. it becomes worse when playing online because ppl just use tactics to expliot the shocking and annoying computer AI who just rush 2+ players to the ball leaving huge spaces for them to just pass into and score an easy goal. from what i have seen on the vids the AI on both the computer controlled team and the human controlled team are both running around like there life dependend on getting the ball back but in doing this just leaving you short all the time at the back i just hope they can sort this out but and leave us to decide when we want pressure to be made on an opposing player like in any of there games up to 09. other slight nigles are that passing seems a bit loose like 09 and could be made worse with 360 movement also for those who hate fifa in my eyes pes 2010 is shaping up more like fifa gameplay which is all about passing and moving and very tight in the centre of the field with lots of interception made from crap passes unortunately but it is true

  65. kevvo Says:

One important factor for me, has the kicking of the ball sound changed? 2009 PES was awful..

  66. Ahmad Says:

In the very first news, Konami mentioned a few surprises. Have u seen any surprises so far?

Also, is there a customizable camera angle?

  67. Rob Says:

Totally agree with post @65, the ball sound is truly horrible and in fact when I first got 09 I was shocked at how bad it really was, however, once you get over the initial shock of it and the comedy animations it turned out to be a half decent game (offline only).

  68. Tha Jogfarva Says:

Dougie dont get caught in the cross fire

  69. Sergio Says:

Is it possible to change the camera angle from 1-9 as it was possible in pes 3,4,5,6?
Did you try to play during winter or when it was raining…does it affect the gameplay?
    Thanks

  70. Fridge Says:

As ive said in every post iv made that yes everyone is entitled to an opinion. but the guys who set up the site do a good job which is thankless. as soon as someone doesnt like it all the other sheep jump on the bandwagon and condemn them. iv said it before and no doubt il say it again , if you dont like it fine, but theres no reason to post stupidly long comments moaning about it. if it wasnt for these guys youd all end up bitching to your little sisters. get a grip

an ps the name fridge in absolutely no way reflects an any inadequasy(or however it spelt) just a name iv had for the past 15 years so dont think you know everythin

pps you make music- mightve guessed you were an “artist”
get a real job and have a wash

  71. lutongooner Says:

I want PES to return to it’s triumphant status, but I cannot see it happening any time soon. Seasbass keeps going on about a new defending system, but from what I have seen 3 or 4 players rush to the ball and leave huge gaps, especially in full-back areas.

Another thing is the farcical Champon’s League license. What the hell is the point of Konami spending huge money to secure the license ahead of EA, when half of the teams in the competition are not in the game? I would rather they try to secure at least some of the Bundesliga teams as Bayern Munchen haven’t dominated that division in recent years. I hate playing a Euro tournament without German sides.

Also, if they have not fixed this then I may not even bother to play the demo. I love playing League Mode with Arsenal, but the stamina and fitness system is ridiculous. If you have auto-fatigue off, Cesc Fabregas for example, will have Arrow Down every 3 or 4 games. If you have it on, players stamina get drained after 2 games on top of their fitness being down. I have always believed this is a ‘cheaty’ tactic by Konami so you cannot completely spank the league and beat every team 8-0.

    FIX IT!

  72. Reece Says:

From the gameplay videos i’ve seen the game is even lesser improved than last years version, some crappy cards thing is all which has been added, sure the game LOOKS better but i just cant see what the difference is between this version and the last. i love pro evo but i just cant see any innovative differences.

  73. Tha Jogfarva Says:

Passthedutchie (are u seriously trying 2 tell me that name is associated in any shape, way or form with COOKING POTS!!!, a different more illegal pot me-thinks) I must admit working your name into the analogy was a stretch but hey, give credit where its due. U gotta say ganja is associated with gangstas some what?

  74. passthedutchie Says:

Ganga, yes. However, pot is more associated with hippies!
Hippies are generally not known to be responsible for your average ‘drive by ‘!

A Dutchie is indeed a pot.
You simply made the wrong association.

  75. marc15050 Says:

people are talking about moving the game forward so its liek real football, but then complian that the passes et intercepted, and the defence are leaving gaps… now those things annoy me, so what i do when im playin is let the cpu run at them, i fill the gap , and the change to the cpu player to make the challange as someone he cpu wants to slide in, give a pen and get sent off.. but some time defences will leave gaps, i dont want perfection, i like how sometimes, fouls arent given, id like 2 see a few more goals that were offside but the linesman didnt see it happen. that would be making a realist game, not one that when u a milliemeter offside its given… coz real life they players is given the adavntage. injuries would be good too.. make a leg break with a bad challange but only very very rarely. but i think one of teh most annoying things is the ball or players feet/foot travlling through a players hand/foot/head and scoring, when it should be deflect away. or when a great sliding tackle doesnt happen because my defenders foot and gone straight through the ball!!! id like that fixed!

  76. Nicko1986 Says:

Whilst you guys are argueing, the FIFA guys have posted more info about they’re manager mode (master league). They’ve actually LISTENED TO WHAT PEOPLE WANT.

It s***s all over the master league.

Hi DD, Many thanks for answering my questions! Its sounds like it might be a fairly decent game this year!

  78. GEORGIO Says:

    T.J

Where can we have some more stats??

  79. Pressestimmen zu PES2010 (Teil 2/2) @ prorevo Blog Says:

[...] PESGaming.com I’m not sure that Konami’s long-standing claim — PES’ depth overcomes its lack of licenses — holds as much water after EA’s two years of exceptionally deep gameplay and licensed clubs with FIFA. That said, from the 3-0 drubbing I gave the Konami rep in a Roma – Juventus match (hardly indicative of the real-life results this past Sunday), I get a strong sense that with Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, the Tokyo-based team is finally sculpting a better soccer experience for this console generation. The shooting system feels tighter than the past two years, the AI got itself fewer yellow cards, and the visual menus really help with explaining complex ideas. I’m not sure it’s going to walk away with the championship, but it could at least qualify for a slot on your shelf. [...]
