PES Matters 5th December 2009

I am interested in getting some PES online competitions going via www.pesrankings.com for PS3 players initially.  I think it’s about time we started to run regular competitions which are open to all.  I know Dan runs his own little league, and I shall try to get him to follow into running it via pesrankings too.  We will be getting prizes to give away to winners too, so there should be a goal worth going for.

I have tried to post a competition for this weekend, but so far haven’t had any interest, and probably because I haven’t advertised it on this site.

So, if there is anyone interested in joining in this weekend, look for the “PESGAMING CUP” taking place today and tomorrow.

I am looking to get a few trial cup runs going to get used to the format and to administrate them before launching proper competitions which prizes up for grabs.  I’d appreciate some assistance from you guys with it, so please do give it a bash.
Dan has mentioned recently in his column that we will be looking to collate our criticisms/suggestions/ideas for PES2011 in the new year, so I think it would be a good idea if you guys could use the rest of this month to systematically go over the current game and start to put your thoughts down on paper ready for the big initiative we will be driving.

I know there will be people stating that Konami don’t listen and won’t do what we want them to, and if you seriously believe this, then please don’t even bother to post comments back.  We do believe Konami are listening to us, and so we want to try to help shape the game by getting our concerns addressed.  I’ve said it in the past, and I’ll say it again, pessimism and negativity won’t change anything positively.  But if like us, you would like to try to make a difference then please join us and I know for a fact that we’re being listened to.

I have a good measure on what I consider to be the key issues with PES2010 for me, and I will be listing them in the new year.

For now, I have to say that there aren’t enough comments reporting back about the online issues that PES has.  I personally don’t like the whole online implementation, with regards to creating match rooms and having to wait around in them for people to connect to and play.

I think the whole online interface needs a complete overhaul, but I need to sit down and pretty much list the important factors that it should have.

If there is anyone interested in helping us to design the online interface that we think would work, then please do give us a shout.

I know we won’t get the whole system changed as per our idea, but we should give ample food for thought at the very least.

Finally, thank you to the few people who have taken part in the PS2 PES2010 competition, I will be announcing the three winners later this week, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Thanks for reading

Sorry, never thought i would sink so low, won’t happen again, promise.

  3. arnookibeast says:

Do you ever read these posts on here, how can you get an online competition when online is goosed, the winner would be the one who suffers the least button delay while playing, not the best pes 2010 player, online competitions are as much of a reality as flying pigs, 90% of the posts on here since pes 2010 launched are complaining about the dreadful online play, the other 10% live in south america, get real, smooth online play is a figment of our imagination, until Konami get their heads out of their backsides and sort out the online then competitions like the one you propose are an impossibility.

  4. Apocalypse88 says:

“online competitions are as much of a reality as flying pigs”

    LOL!!

  5. soninlaw says:

I would say; just simply look at FPS games. Someone puts up a server for 2 players. (host has a ZERO ping). Then, somebody can join that server. Like in FPS games, everyone has a ping. This way you can see if the player you are up to has a good connection. Dedicated servers are a must have. One of the reasons why I didn’t buy MW2.

First of all, PES needs to get there sh*t together at offline gameplay level before looking at online. Konami looks like a confused developer who just can’t seem to make the right decisions anymore. Example: In previous PES games, we had manual goalkeeper. Somehow in PES 2009 they removed it. Now they have put it back again. Believe me, I can make a giant list of more of these issues.

Can PES 2010 for PS2 go online?? Ive yet to figure that out

  7. Barca Fc says:

If you can answer this in your next article I will believe that you do indeed know for a FACT Konami are listtening:

“Why is there such inconsistency in the features (e.g. gameplay, options such as snow conditions) of the game from year to year?”

If you cant answer that or get an answer from a guy from Konami don’t give us false hope as usual, people in the forums have had enough of that BS.

  8. Apocalypse88 says:

Does anyone know wat them PES2010 updates are exactly suppose to do?

  9. arnookibeast says:

@ apocalypse88, i don’t even think Konami know what the updates do, so you have no chance of getting the answer on here, update seems to be a bit of a buzz word, other game companies bring out updates that massively improve the game with new content or better online modes, but Konami are not other game companies, they are Konami, and they give us nothing, they don’t fix the shambles that is online play, and as for the update, they gave us the new Japan kit, what in the name of all that is holy is that suppose to do for us, my name is not Chow lee Ling, i don’t want a new japan kit, myself and 1000s of other uk gamers want more more more, we are not a greedy, ungrateful bunch, but our hard earned cash is going to Konami, and when we get little or nothing in return we have every right to feel hard done by, right, i have got down from my soap box and i am off to play some games online, needless to say, pes 2010 won’t be one of them.

  10. christos21 says:

I sent a mail yesterday to konami again because i saw the blog from mr hatsumi who on 29/06/2009 said that:
    29.06.2009
    PES 2010
    “Online Overhaul for PES2010
However, I’d like to say here and now that not only have we fixed the lag and warp problems of the past, but we thoroughly overhauled the entire online system! I know people are going to want to see proof of this, but I’m 100% confident in my predictions.”
Those are his words and i wrote them that noone is going to believe mr hatsumi again because he is a big fat lier like konami and seabass and all the f****** stuff.Who is going to believe them again in everything they will announce???
The answer is NOBODY.So DD what can i say about the online mode if it is not working at all?Lets say that we propose something for the servers to work better and instead of doing good we mess the whole online system.I imagine in the end that they will accuse us that is our fault…hahaha,i really believe that!!!

  11. cheech & chong says:

online is truly sh1t. they have replaced teleporting with button delay.

“For now, I have to say that there aren’t enough comments reporting back about the online issues that PES has”

    Bollocks

  12. PapiLLon says:

The online is as ****ty as the game : button delay and only Real madrid and Barca playing

  13. Neo NiGHTS ® says:

@dougiedonut – I do not mean to be rude in any way, but I have to ask: why are you asking us AGAIN to make a list of improvements on this post if in the previous two there are already a lot of good and positive suggestions?
Couldn’t you simply give a good look on the two previous posts’ comments and collect the opinions everybody’s given already?!
    Thanks for your attention :)

  14. FOOTIE MAD says:

I have to say tht I agree with most of the comments on here as I am furious at the online play, for the third year running it is a shambles .And for a member of Konami to quote that all the online issues have been addressed ,whaen they clearly are not is diabolical.I have mentioned before ,we are now 2 months in ,the problems are rife, the complaints are coming thick and fast ,and yet there is no statement,no representation from Konami of the problems that are faced by the majority. So for you to say that there aren’t enough complaints about the online, then I really am not sure where you have been,or where you are looking.Another year ,another disgrace .Another year of frustration, and broken handsets out of sheer frustration. This is not good at all .Its not like this is the first time we are experiencing this ,it is now 3 years. That is a long time to be patient. It is a long time to be ignored.I have lost all faith in Konami, and they talked th game up so much it was believable. So much so ,that like a fool ,I was suckedred in again into believing them. There was a time when Konami would advertise this much acclaimed game, now there are no adverts at all .It seems that they are now counting on their fanbase to either purchase,or spread the word. There was a time that I myself would try and persuade others into purchasing the better game ,with being over fifa, but now I hold my head in shame for turning people on to this ,and being as dissappointed as I am.And as mentioned already,no point iin trying to run an online competition, simply for the reasons mentioned above. Please pass this on to konami, even though I know it will fall on deaf ears ,like it has done for 3 years now.

    @14
YOU ARE SO RIGHT MAN.I live in greece and is the only country according to sales that PES 2010 is first and FIFA is second. All the other countries in the world have FIFA first and we all know why.Next year with pes 2011 nobody will buy it and i also feel betrayed because i persuade a lot of my friends to buy it and now they curse on me.

  16. christos21 says:

Please guys from ENGLAND check this out and answer all the questions.

  17. arnookibeast says:

@ 16, I have just taken the pesfan survey, lets hope that Konami actually take notice of it.

  18. Amateur says:

We have the right to voice our opinion, regardless of how repetitive or negative it may be. I find some of DD’s words plain offensive, in this particular piece of work.

Konami should do some research instead of asking for feedback that they don’t even deserve in the first place.

As simple as that, if they are listening; they need to prove it -PES10- is a long way from proving anything.

  19. HFT00 says:

Dougie – after reading all the crap that has been posted here’s one that should be worth your while.

The online play works perfectly…..with the right conditions which are:

    1) Connection Speed: At lease 2mb connection. Don’t expect a perfect experience with anything less

    2) Switch of your internet on your laptop,pc etc.. Me and my friend actually tried and it makes a world of difference

    3) Proximity: If anyone here is from the gulf region(UAE,Saudi Arabia, Qatar etc) got to the last server and first room and u will find everyone from that region there and you will have great connections. I’ve played games with people who had 512 Kb connections with my 2 mb and it was as if they were sitting in my living room. My friend has a 24 mb connection and we rarely had lag with anyone from around the world but you need a very good connection for that.
In Summary, check the user u are connected to for his country and u make the judgement based on your connection.

99% of the games that I play feel like the other person is sitting next to me in my living room.

So for the people who have mediocre connections and play against people half way around the world with ****ty connections with their internet on downloading torrents yes you will have delay in response. Blame your internet connection not the game.

People will argue that other games work perfectly online. Well guess what….PES is a very complex game. Think of it this way. When you connect with COD and play, u are effectively controlling one player. You either kill another player or be killed simple. In PES, there is a mutual element which is the ball. You have 11 players on each side which effectively react to what is happening(defending, attacking, etc). Due to the complexity of the game and the amount of data being transferred back and forth, a need for better connections is required.

In my opinion, Konami have delivered what they promissed in terms of online.

Now on the subject of the interface I completely agree that it is in need of an overhaul with a main focus on the following areas:

    1) You can not really search for an opponent. They should at least include the country of residence.
    2) You can not invite someone to your room which should be really east to do. They have the option on the menu but you can’t select it.
    3) The interfaces do look outaded. It’s a shame when you compare it to the in screen menus of the offline game.

I would love to help redesign the interface and would like to mention that Konami is going to receive death threats from my girlfriend because I never put down the controller anymore.

PS: This is totally off topic but i discovered a bug in the game. If you get a red card in Master League, the player will be allowed to play the next game THEN be banned for 3 matches. Try it and you will see.

  20. christos21 says:

    @19
How many games have you played because all that you are saying we are doing it and still have lag and button delay.I have 24mbps download and 2 mbps upload and no torrents or laptop or desktop open.So if you are so lucky it wont last for long, believe me unless you are always playing with opponents from your country and your friends.I want to play with people from all over the world and if fifa has succeded why PES does not?Why clever boy?

  21. HFT00 says:

    @20

I’ve played 200 + matches and I stress on the fact of playing with people within your region.

Fifa is a much slower game with bulky player movements so the game will naturally play better online.

I can’t speak for myself but I have heard of lag cases from some of my friends but I could be wrong.

EA has their own dedicated servers not only for Fifa players but for their NBA, NFL, NHL and other games out there so Fifa players got that added benefit because it was worth the investment.

Konami arguebly only have PES as a game with a heavy online audience. I also like to think that there are a hell of alot more PES players as opposed to FIFA which contributes to this:)

  22. Dougie says:

HFT – If you dont get lag then good luck to you, but I think you would have to say you are fortunate. You ignore the argument that all other games work ok, but other sports games work fine and they have a ball/puck etc. I played battlefield 1943 last night, 24 players online, blowing the crap out of everything and no lag at all, to suggest that konamis problems are because their football game has a ball in it is a bit laughable to be honest. You will find most people who experience lag problems on here, do have a decent connection.

Finally dougiedonut – you slightly accuse visitors here of being pessimistic and negative, we should wonder how we arrived at this state. Konami annually telling lies months before release is certainly a major factor for me coupled with releasing a game in 2008 which should never have been released.

  23. fallensoldier says:

Guys i now believe that most of your problems are actually due to your uk game because i have the NA version and as i said on numerous occasions i am having no lag now for about a month seven days. I will admit at first i was but something changed don’ to wat and am having no lag at all even some of my friends on psn are having goods games cus we play lagless games and not only with then i sometimes play against guys from brazil and albania etc and the game will be good except 4 some stutters here and there.

Heres a list of info not to listen to its bull

1- no wireless (am using wireless)

2- higher speed (my speed is ok but got friends using 1mb and their good)

3- Switch of your pc ( my pc is always on) although downloading and playing may be a problem i don’t know

4- check your opponents connection ( we all know its f***cked up)

Konami need to deliver a more stable server (true)

  24. vince k says:

i have the u.s. version, and i’ve put the game away due to various issues. one is the online button lag. i don’t know what causes it, but it’s there, and it’s not cool.

one thing that hasn’t ever been asked, no one ever talks about it, but needs to be asked (and i’d really like an answer) is WHY CAN WE IN THE U.S. NOT PLAY ANYONE OUTSIDE OF THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE????? should i repeat, for emphasis? ok, maybe not. but it makes no sense that every other game out there doesn’t have this rediculous restriction.

online needs a lobby system, with some kind of ability to see a great part of available players. pick through players with initial (and i say this tongue-in-cheek, as we all know how the connection quality always changes) good connections, good history, fair play, etc. if creating a game, have the ability to restrict gamers to an individual league, continent for international games.

one more thing–get rid of seabass. mr. suzuki is no longer a viable option for this franchise, if it is to stay alive. because PES is seriously stumbling around in a recently-stabbed fashion.

  25. thesim says:

It really annoys me when i attempt to play online i have a deflated football as to say im a quitter. What option do i have when every time i come across an oponent with a green light it then changes to red come kick off. I cant play with such bad button delay so i haven’t finished an online game since release day, dont know why i keep tryin.

  26. christos21 says:

The answer from KONAMI about the online issues (button delay and lag) its just arrive….

“We are aware of the issue reported, and we have informed our development team, who is already investigating any possible cause of the problem.
