PES Matters 24th June 2012

I’ve had a few queries about the polls that we are running on the site, and their relevance.
So I thought I’d help make the reasoning clear for the benefit of the less informed.

We’re running polls to try to see which issues are more relevant to you for PES 2013. It’s as simple as that.
The polls have been varied in nature, and we will re-post a few of the polls over again, to see if they get the same level of responses or not. We’re trying to tap into the numbers game for Konami to show what we want from PES 2013.

We’ve seen from recent interviews that various websites have managed to conduct with Konami that they’re trying to get to grass roots level issues (pun intended). It’s easy to forget that they’re on a different continent from us guys in Europe, and the UK more specifically. Just as we’d struggle to have our finger on the pulse with what’s important to the Japanese, they too have struggled to understand what’s important to us.

To be fair, for over a decade there never was a need for any real communication between Konami and the rest of the world generally.
We’d all patiently wait for the annual versions of PES, and generally live with any quirks that there may have been in the game.

So with the current state of affairs being what it is, the last few years has seen Konami open their doors to try to reach out to us.
It’s not easy, it’s not simple, but it’s happening. It’s not happening fast enough for many of us, and it’s something Konami have acknowledged. We’ve made good progress from PES2008 to PES2012 despite not getting the game we want. PES 2013 is showing very positive signs of making a lot of industry insiders sit up and take note of it. Whilst Im not trying to hype up the game unnecessarily, and especially since I’ve not had a look at the previews in action, there seems to be grounds for genuine optimism.

I will keep my ear to the ground for any near future demo opportunities, as it will be on a more advanced version than has been seen.
It should also be closer to the finished product, and so will give a better idea of what we’re getting.
We’ve seen the likes of WENB give caveats on the gameplay due to the early nature of the game, and that was a primary reason for myself to not attend. It’s very hard to remain impartial, and not get carried away with the new features making the game.
I have got myself into trouble in the past for trying to provide what I would call a balanced perspective on the game. So to avoid any such incriminations, I’m prepared to wait a little longer and then be able to give impressions with stronger conviction.

Word on the street is that there will be an early demo in late July. We will provide details of it as and when they become available.
This demo is again another indicator of the confidence in the game from Konami. They know they have their detractors waiting to pounce, but giving such an early look for me is a bold and brave step. Personally I think they feel they’ve nailed the core game.
But this time it will be the surrounding package that we need to harp on about more to them. Such as online play issues.

The new poll is one I feel very strongly about: online cheating fixes. I really want more evidence from Konami that they’re tackling online cheaters with a two-footed lunge at their skulls. I want to hear from them that cheating is a huge priority for the online game, and that we won’t suffer the usual frustrations. So to help with this, they need to see that this is a big issue for us.
So please can we get some serious voting going on – let mates know to get their vote in. If we’re only hitting even 200 votes, then it’s not going to help our cause. We need to show some serious solidarity and raise our collective voice to be heard.
